‘Aborted Baby Jesus Dolls’ Cross the Pro-Life Line

With Hobby Lobby at the center of one of the most important religious liberty cases of our lifetime, it's no surprise that the Christian-owned arts and crafts company is getting its fair share of persecution. But pro-abortion artist Ron English has crossed the line in harassing Hobby Lobby—and many of its customers.

An anonymous pro-abortion activist invaded a Hobby Lobby store and placed a gruesome item on the shelves in between colorful plastic Easter eggs—baby Jesus dolls hanging from coat hangers. The dolls have long hair and beards like Jesus—and are naked like Jesus was when He hung on a cross to pay for the sin of abortion (and every other sin).

Ron English, a pro-abortion propaganda artist whose blog includes images portraying President Barack Obama as President Lincoln—with a "gay pride" rainbow overlay that suggests Obama has done for gays what Lincoln did for slaves—posted a video of a woman getting out of a car toting the "Hobby Lobby Aborted Baby Jesus" dolls and hanging them on the rack. The background music mocks Jesus as a "tourist attraction."

A blog post that accompanies the offensive photos and videos on English's site reads: "While at Hobby Lobby in Poughkeepsie, New York, Ron came across a rack which held four crucified aborted Baby Jesus'. Wonder if they are still there?"

Acts like this go beyond a simple belief that a woman has the right to choose what goes on in her own body. Acts like this point to a mocking anti-Christ spirit—and an immature one at that. Who spends their time creating fake baby Jesus dolls and affixing them to coat hangers, then sneaks into the store from which they probably bought the materials and makes a video showing them displayed on the shelf? How does that advance the pro-choice movement? It doesn't.

Here are some more questions: How can anyone even take seriously a movement that relies on such nonsensical ploys that have a clear intent to provoke and offend? Why aren't the leaders of the pro-abortion movement speaking out about these and other acts, like violence against pro-life advocates? Do you really think this is what Gloria Steinem had in mind when she helped birth the women's lib movement?

I realize that every movement—even Christian movements—have their extremes, but it seems the abortion movement isn't willing to call out its own. Planned Parenthood, the modern-day leader of the abortion industry—actually had the gall to say God endorses its work. Meanwhile, comedians like Sarah Silverman actually put words in Jesus' mouth, suggesting he would respond to the pro-life movement this way: "The fertilized eggs aren't people. People are people."

Yes, I want all this to disturb you. I want to shake you up. I want it to make you mad—in a righteous indignation sort of way. Will you stand there and allow people to mock your God? Or will you drop to your knees and pray for those who are persecuting our risen king through mockery that will only fall back on their own heads?

No, God doesn't need us to defend His honor, per se, but He has left us this planet, in part, to be His representatives. God loves the pro-abortionists as much as He loves you. He takes no pleasure in their sin or in their eventual destruction if they don't repent. So let these mockeries stir your heart to rise up against the real enemy—an enemy that has captured the souls of a generation of people who believe it's OK to murder innocent babies. I believe in the power of prayer to change anything. Do you?
