Congress Asked to Investigate Planned Parenthood Illegally Selling Aborted Baby Body Parts

Leading pro-life groups are calling on Congress to investigate the Planned Parenthood abortion business after a shocking new expose’ video has caught Planned Parenthood’s top doctor describing how the abortion business sells the body parts of aborted babies.

New undercover footage shows Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Senior Director of Medical Services, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, describing how Planned Parenthood sells the body parts of aborted unborn children and admitting she uses partial-birth abortions to supply intact body parts.

Federal law prohibits the sale of body parts of aborted babies. In fact, the sale or purchase of human fetal tissue a federal felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $500,000 (42 U.S.C. 289g-2).

As a result, pro-life groups are calling on federal officials to probe the nation’s biggest abortion business.

Americans United for Life President Charmaine Yoest called for an immediate Congressional investigation into the alleged atrocities exposed by the images from the new undercover video.

She told LifeNews.com: “This video provides a shocking reality check about the grisly, inhumane business model of Planned Parenthood. Under Cecile Richards’ leadership, breast screenings are down, abortions are up and profits are up, as even the bodies of the unborn become something else for her to sell. We call for an immediate Congressional investigation into these alleged atrocities. And just as important, the time is now to de-fund Planned Parenthood. The American taxpayer should not be in business with such callous profiteers.”

Yoest continued: “Planned Parenthood is Abortion, Inc. Increasing their market share of abortions, cutting life-affirming services and now apparently creating a secretive abortion market, callously utilizing their unborn victims for one purpose – making money. This kind of gruesome behavior explains why Planned Parenthood has worked so hard to increase its share of the abortion market to 1 in 3, even as the number of women having abortions seems to be declining.”

She said the shocking video “shows that later term abortions, such as those after 5 months of pregnancy, produce infant body parts more valuable for sale. Perhaps that is one reason why the nation’s largest abortion provider fights limiting abortions at a point at which abortions become so dangerous to women as well as the unborn child. Congress needs to use their subpoena power to determine how Planned Parenthood is using taxpayer dollars and whether they are violating the federal prohibition on sale of human body parts.”

Lila Rose, the head of LiveAction, which has done its own undercover video investigations of the Planed Parenthood abortion corporation, is also asking federal officials to intervene. Here’s what she told LifeNews today:

“This investigation by the Center for Medical Progress reveals the unimaginable horror that is Planned Parenthood. The exploitation of human life, the cover-up, and the black market profiteering by America’s largest abortion chain is not only egregious and heartbreaking, but exposes how the abortion giant is corrupt to the core — from the CEO, Cecile Richards, down to the local clinic. As Live Action has investigated through the years, Planned Parenthood’s barbaric practices reveal their contempt for rule of law and human life. This latest expose of Planned Parenthood’s trafficking of baby parts for profit should be the final nail in the coffin for the abortion giant. Congress must take immediate action to stop all taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood and end the bankrolling of this horrific human rights abuser.”

Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, tells LifeNews he is also calling on Congress to get involved.

“I have been involved for decades in the effort to expose the evidence that the abortion industry sells the body parts of the babies it kills,” Fr. Pavone stated, “and I welcome this new evidence provided by David Daleiden and the Center for Medical Progress. The undercover videos and documentation, which have begun to be publicized today, show how people at the highest levels of Planned Parenthood are negotiating the sale of body parts, and adjusting the way they perform abortions so that the body parts are more accessible. This violates both the law and the most basic sense of human decency.”

“This activity violates state and federal laws that prohibit the sale of human body parts. Moreover, this new evidence shows that Planned Parenthood is still using the partial-birth abortion procedure, which has also been banned by law at the state and federal level,” he continued.

“We therefore call on Congress to investigate this activity and to stop federal funding of Planned Parenthood. Moreover, we call on the United States Senate to vote on and pass the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which will protect many of the babies whose bodies are being cut up and sold in this manner,” Fr. Pavone said.

Jim Sedlak, vice president at American Life League, joined the call for a Congressional investigation.

“Given the fact that the harvesting of baby parts is done at Planned Parenthood centers and these centers receive $400 million in Medicaid reimbursements each year, as an initial step, Congress should immediately suspend all Medicaid payments to Planned Parenthood. Americans do not want their tax money going to an organization engaged in the trafficking of baby body parts,” he said.

Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America, also chimed in:

“The results of this investigation are truly horrific. This generation is already turned off by Planned Parenthood once they learn that they have abortion quotas, the extraordinary amount of money they receive from taxpayers and that they commit a quarter of all abortions done yearly. The buying and selling of baby body parts is indefensible and the straw that will break the camel’s back. Planned Parenthood is a gross money-maker and care nothing for the women, and children, they harm in the process.”

ew Video Shows Another Planned Parenthood Doctor Haggling Price of Baby Body Parts

In the second video released today by the Center for Medical Progress, yet another senior medical adviser to Planned Parenthood of America appears to negotiate the price of selling baby body parts to actors playing entrepreneurs from a start-up biotech firm.

Dr. Mary Gatter, President of Planned Parenthood’s Medical Director’s Council, is asked, “What would you expect for intact tissue?”

Gatter starts to haggle immediately, “Why don’t you start by telling me what you’re used to paying?”

When pushed for a number, Gatter says, “Well, you know in negotiations the person who throws out the figure first is at a loss, right? So…”

When pushed again for how much her Planned Parenthood affiliate is willing to sell baby body parts for, she responds, “Okay, $75.”

When the buyer tells her that number seems low Gatter responds, “I was going to say $50.”

Then the buy offers her $100 to which Gatter quickly responds, “Okay.”

After the first video was released last week in which Dr. Deborah Nucatola also appears to negotiate the price of fetal body parts, Planned Parenthood insisted that the price Nucatola mentioned was only related to the costs incurred by Planned Parenthood with no profit involved. In the Nucatola video, however, she is seen and heard explaining that the Planned Parenthood affiliates in the body parts business wanted to do more than “break even.”

In this second video, shot in February at a restaurant in Pasadena, Gatter seems willing to accept a higher and higher price.

What’s more, in the beginning of the video, she talks about an earlier situation where a company called Novogenix used to come to her abortion clinic to buy specimens: “Heather, a Novogenix person would come to the site and our staff would sign the patients up and get consent. And then Heather would look at the tissue and take what she required. So logistically it was very easy for us. We didn’t have to do anything.” (emphasis added)

This statement would seem to contradict the need of a higher and higher price for doing nothing except letting a technician from another company come into the facility and take specimens. While she seems willing to accept higher prices, Gatter does claim Planned Parenthood is “not in it for the money” and they do not want to appear to be selling body parts.

At the end of the video, like Nucatola, Gatter talks about changing the abortion technique to get intact specimens, changing from a rather violent suction method that would destroy tissue to what she calls an IPAS, which is a reference to a nonprofit company that makes and distributes “manual vacuum aspirators” which would be a less harmful way to get at the internal organs. She said there would be protocol issues with the patient but that she saw no problem with it. She calls it a “less crunchy” way to get intact organs.

At the end of the tape provided by CMP, Gatter jokes about wanting “a Lamborghini” for body parts.

This new video will no doubt stoke the fires that are now burning in Congress and in states around the country in response to the first undercover Planned Parenthood video. Already two committees in the House and Senate have called for investigations of the abortion giant, along with five state governments.

CMP’s Project Lead David Daleiden said, “Planned Parenthood’s top leadership had admitted they harvest aborted baby parts and receive payments for this. Planned Parenthood’s only denial is that they make money off of baby parts, but that is a desperate lie that becomes more and more untenable as CMP reveals their business operations and statements that prove otherwise.”

Federal law does allow for body parts to be donated and for basic expenses to be recouped, including expenses related to “reasonable payments associated with the transportation, implantation, processing, preservation, quality control, or storage of human fetal tissue.” Putting aside the grisly business of buying and selling organs harvested from unborn babies, it seems increasingly likely that Planned Parenthood is going to have to explain how the prices sited by both Nucatola and now Gatter fit in with such “reasonable payments,” and they’re going to have to explain it in front of legislative committees and perhaps even prosecutors and attorneys general.

PP Apologist: Selling Baby Parts Just Like Donating Blood
"There are costs associated with donation"

Planned Parenthood apologist Dr. Anne Davis of the Physicians for Reproductive Health appeared on MSNBC's NOW with Alex Wagner Tuesday and compared the abortion conglomerate's operation of selling baby parts for profit with the simple action of donating blood.

Speaking about the Center for Medical Progress video released Tuesday that showed Planned Parenthood Medical Directors’ Council President Dr. Mary Gatter haggling over prices for fetal tissue, Wagner asked Davis if she could "confirm" to what degree prices of "$50, 75 and $100 per fetus…seem reasonable in the sort of the course of medical transport." Davis first stated that it is "helpful to understand what the money is for" before going on to compare the situation with "costs associated with [the] donation" of giving "fetal tissue" over to "science."

So, imagine you do something familiar like go to donate blood. So, you go to donate blood. You go to the center. You have a technician who places an IV. You donate the blood. The blood goes into a little bag. The bag into a little cooler. People have done blood donation, right? So, that is someone’s job who has to help with the blood donation, make sure the donated blood goes to the appropriate place, it’s transported to the hospital. So, those are jobs people have. So, the costs – there are costs associated with donation and that’s exactly what this is for. So, those are – seem like reasonable numbers that would go along with that kind of donation.

Wagner then went on to characterize the "donation" of baby parts as an actual good, calling it the "silver lining of a very difficult process for most women." Davis concurred with her and called the action "generous and altruistic."

We would bring this to the actual reality of what happens, which is always my favorite job to do as the doctor – which is that, certainly, it is the common experience of anyone whose an abortion provider and myself included that when a patient is in a situation that is very difficult, and this particularly will turn up in a case where there is a rare fetal condition and they’ve decided to end the pregnancy that in a gesture that is very generous and very altruistic, they will volunteer to donate fetal tissue to help people understand how the condition developed, if there’s any way it could have been prevented to really move science forward for that particularly situation. So it is a compassionate gesture, it is a very private moment where people volunteer to do this and certainly so my colleagues around the country and I are, you know, the recipients of that sort of – in that moment with people and it’s very genuine. So, there are certainly services where people can help women do that generous thing they would like to do at that moment.

Obama DOJ Plans To Investigate…The Group That Busted Planned Parenthood
Instead of investigating whether Planned Parenthood illegally trafficked baby body parts, Obama's DOJ is targeting the group behind the undercover videos

The U.S. Department of Justice announced plans to investigate the group that produced undercover videos showing Planned Parenthood employees admitting that they harvest and sell organs ripped from the bodies aborted babies. Politico reported the news of the coming DOJ investigation earlier today:

JUSTICE TO PROBE CENTER FOR MEDICAL PROGRESS — While congressional committees investigate Planned Parenthood’s practices, the Justice Department agreed to look into whether the group that released the sting videos obtained the footage legally. In response to a request by House Democrats, Attorney General Loretta Lynch said Wednesday afternoon that Justice would “review all of the information and determine what the appropriate steps moving forward would be.” Planned Parenthood has staunchly defended its practices and claims that the Center for Medical Progress illegally obtained its footage, then excessively edited it to misrepresent what the organization does.

The DOJ investigation of the Center for Medical Progress, which, unlike Planned Parenthood, is not in the business of killing healthy, viable unborn babies in order to sell their organs for cash, was announced after several Democratic lawmakers called for the organization to be targeted:

Four Democrats in Congress — Reps. Jan Schakowsky, Zoe Lofgren, Jerry Nadler, and Yvette Clarke — have written to Attorney General Loretta Lynch and California Attorney General Kamala Harris, asking them to open investigations into the Center for Medical Progress. The Democrats say the videos were filmed as part of an “elaborate scheme” — using “fake identification” and without the approval of the Planned Parenthood doctor who appears in them.

It’s interesting that Lynch decided so early to make a statement about the group. There are certainly more videos to come, and if Planned Parenthood’s panicked press releases are any indication, the footage may be far more damaging than anything that’s been revealed thus far. However, given the abject politicization of multiple agencies under Obama’s command — including the Internal Revenue Service, which targeted conservative non-profits, and the DOJ, which has been hesitant to investigate Obama allies — it seems unlikely that Lynch and those who report to her will ever crack down on Abortion, Inc.

After two shocking videos caught Planned Parenthood doctors discussing and arranging the sale of body parts of aborted babies, a third video has been released today catching a Planned Parenthood vice president negotiating the sale of aborted babies and attempting to get as much money as possible from the deal.

She says: “We’ve been using them for over 10 years, really a long time, you know, just kind of renegotiated the contract. They’re doing the big government-level collections and things like that.”

The video features Holly O’Donnell, a licensed phlebotomist who unsuspectingly took a job as a “procurement technician” at the fetal tissue company and biotech start-up StemExpress in late 2012. That’s the company that acts as a middleman and purchases the body parts of aborted babies from Planned Parenthood to sell to research universities and other places.

I thought I was going to be just drawing blood, not procuring tissue from aborted fetuses,” says O’Donnell, who fainted in shock on her first day of work in a Planned Parenthood clinic when suddenly asked to dissect a freshly-aborted fetus during her on-the-job training.

For six months, O’Donnell’s job was to identify pregnant women at Planned Parenthood who met criteria for fetal tissue orders and to harvest the fetal body parts after their abortions.

O’Donnell describes the financial benefit Planned Parenthood received from StemExpress: “For whatever we could procure, they would get a certain percentage. The main nurse was always trying to make sure we got our specimens. No one else really cared, but the main nurse did because she knew that Planned Parenthood was getting compensated.”

In the video, O’Donnell describes her work and the profit motive behind Planned Parenthood’s sale of aborted babies.

David Daleiden, Project Lead for The Center for Medical Progress, which has released also three videos, told LifeNews.com, “Planned Parenthood’s sale of aborted baby parts is an offensive and horrifying reality that is widespread enough for many people to be available to give first-person testimony about it.”

4th Video Catches Planned Parenthood VP Discussing How to Break the Law to Sell Aborted Babies

After three shocking videos caught Planned Parenthood doctors discussing and arranging the sale of body parts of aborted babies, a fourth video has been released today catching a Planned Parenthood vice president discussing how Planned Parenthood how to break or get around the law to sell aborted babies.

New undercover footage shows Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains’ Vice President and Medical Director, Dr. Savita Ginde, negotiating a fetal body parts deal, agreeing multiple times to illicit pricing per body part harvested, and suggesting ways to avoid legal consequences.

In the video, actors posing as representatives from a human biologics company meet with Ginde at the abortion-clinic headquarters of PPRM in Denver to discuss a potential partnership to harvest fetal organs. When the actors request intact fetal specimens, Ginde reveals that in PPRM’s abortion practice, “Sometimes, if we get, if someone delivers before we get to see them for a procedure, then we are intact.”

“We’d have to do a little bit of training with the providers or something to make sure that they don’t crush” fetal organs during 2nd trimester abortions, says Ginde, brainstorming ways to ensure the abortion doctors at PPRM provide usable fetal organs.

When the buyers ask Ginde if “compensation could be specific to the specimen?” Ginde agrees, “Okay.” Later on in the abortion clinic’s pathological laboratory, standing over an aborted fetus, Ginde responds to the buyer’s suggestion of paying per body part harvested, rather than a standard flat fee for the entire case: “I think a per-item thing works a little better, just because we can see how much we can get out of it.”

Ginde also suggests ways for Planned Parenthood to cover-up its criminal and public relations liability for the sale of aborted body parts. “Putting it under ‘research’ gives us a little bit of an overhang over the whole thing,” Ginde remarks. “If you have someone in a really anti state who’s going to be doing this for you, they’re probably going to get caught.”

Ginde implies that PPRM’s lawyer, Kevin Paul, is helping the affiliate skirt the fetal tissue law: “He’s got it figured out that he knows that even if, because we talked to him in the beginning, you know, we were like, ‘We don’t want to get called on,’ you know, ‘selling fetal parts across states.’” The buyers ask, “And you feel confident that they’re building those layers?” to which Ginde replies, “I’m confident that our Legal will make sure we’re not put in that situation.”

The videos show Planned Parenthood is potentially breaking federal laws.

Since PPRM does not use digoxin or other feticide in its 2nd trimester procedures, any intact deliveries before an abortion are potentially born-alive infants under federal law (1 USC 8). Federal law also requires that no alteration in the timing or method of abortion be done for the purposes of fetal tissue collection (42 U.S.C. 289g-1).

The video is the latest by The Center for Medical Progress documenting Planned Parenthood’s sale of aborted fetal parts. Project Lead David Daleiden talked about this latest video: “Elected officials need to listen to the public outcry for an immediate moratorium on Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding while the 10 state investigations and 3 Congressional committees determine the full extent of Planned Parenthood’s sale of baby parts.”

Daleiden continues, “Planned Parenthood’s recent call for the NIH to convene an expert panel to ‘study’ fetal experimentation is absurd after suggestions from Planned Parenthood’s Dr. Ginde that ‘research’ can be used as a catch-all to cover-up baby parts sales. The biggest problem is bad actors like Planned Parenthood who hold themselves above the law in order to harvest and make money off of aborted fetal brains, hearts, and livers.”

Yoest says it’s noteworthy that Ginde says that she has to talk to “Deb,” who is Dr. Deborah Nucatola, the Senior Director of Medical Services for Planned Parenthood, the doctor featured in the first-released video.

“This comment highlights Nucatola’s knowledge and involvement with Planned Parenthood’s abortion profiteering and the systemic corruption of the organization. Congressman Fred Upton, the Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee has asked Dr. Nucatola to brief the Committee and respond to questions about Planned Parenthood’s involvement in the sale of organs from aborted infants. Planned Parenthood has responded that they will not make Dr. Nucatola available prior to the July 31st deadline,” she said.

“We’ve now seen three different Planned Parenthood doctors involved in abortion profiteering. Cecile Richards and her allies in Congress and the Obama Administration continue to deny, dodge and distract in order to avoid addressing the brutal reality these videos have revealed. The American people are demanding a response,” said Yoest. “The nation’s number one abortion federation has received billions of tax dollars over the years, and now is the time to pass the No Taxpayer Funding of Abortion Act.”

Planned Parenthood: Judge bars pro-life group from airing StemExpress footage

The pro-life group behind a series of undercover Planned Parenthood videos accused the bioservice firm StemExpress late Wednesday of trying to “cover up this illegal baby parts trade” after the company obtained a court order blocking the release of footage.

The Los Angeles Superior Court issued a temporary injunction Tuesday stopping the Center for Medical Progress from releasing any video showing three officials from StemExpress, a company that transfers fetal tissue from abortions performed at Planned Parenthood and other clinics to medical researchers.

A company spokesman told the Associated Press that StemExpress is “grateful its rights have been vindicated in a court of law,” but the center said in a statement that the court threw out most of the company’s request.

StemExpress is “attempting to use meritless litigation to cover-up this illegal baby parts trade, suppress free speech, and silence the citizen press reporting on issues of burning concern to the American public,” said the CMP statement.

“They are not succeeding — their initial petition was rejected by the court, and their second petition was eviscerated to a narrow and contingent order about an alleged recording pending CMP’s opportunity to respond,” the group said.

The court agreed to block the release of footage of StemExpress officials filmed secretly at a lunch in May until an Aug. 19 court hearing.

The CMP has released three videos since July 13, the latest of which shows an interview with former StemExpress employee Holly O’Donnell, who says she was hired to “draw blood and dissect dead fetuses and sell the parts to researchers.”

She said employees at StemExpress, a for-profit company, tried to maximize the financial benefit of each fetus by obtaining the most profitable organs.

“The harder and more valuable the tissue, the more money you get,” Ms. O’Donnell said. “So if you can somehow procure a brain or a heart, you’re going to get more money than just chorionic villi or umbilical cord. That’s basically what it is. So I guess that’s an incentive to try and get the hard stuff.”

The CMP’s David Daleiden has said that the California-based pro-life group may release as many as a dozen videos. Since July 13, the organization has released one video per week.

The group has accused Planned Parenthood of profiting from the sale of aborted fetal organs in violation of federal law, which officials from Planned Parenthood have denied, saying they only receive reimbursement for costs, which is legal.

BREAKING: New Undercover Video Reveals Planned Parenthood Willing to Sell Organs From Delivered Babies

The Center For Medical Progress has released a fourth undercover video showing Planned Parenthood Vice President of the Rocky Mountains and Medical Director Dr. Savita Ginde discussing how babies that are "delivered before procedure," aka born alive, are used to harvest "intact" organs.

"Sometimes, if we get, if someone delivers before we are able to see them for a procedure the we are intact," Ginde is shown saying.

The video also shows abortionists pointing out "another boy!" has been extracted and celebrating intact baby parts as "five stars!"

"I just want to see one leg and one foot," an abortionist in a lab is seen saying. "It's a baby...here's the heart...do people want to do stuff with eyeballs?"

Babies born alive are protected by the Infant Born Alive Act. From CMP:

Since PPRM does not use digoxin or other feticide in its 2nd trimester procedures, any intact deliveries before an abortion are potentially born-alive infants under federal law (1 USC 8).

“We’d have to do a little bit of training with the providers or something to make sure that they don’t crush” fetal organs during 2nd trimester abortions, says Ginde, brainstorming ways to ensure the abortion doctors at PPRM provide usable fetal organs.

Further, the video reveals Planned Parenthood officials want to be contact with each other at different abortion clinics throughout the country in order to coverup organ harvesting and to make sure everyone is "on the same page" should anything come under scrutiny. Ginde also talks multiple times about how to evade the law and says they have a good attorney to deal with any legal issues.

"I feel like if you're talking to other Planned Parenthoods, we sort of all have to be on the same page," Almost to the point where we have to disclose to each other that we're all doing this so if anyone who gets called out or runs with it, that we're all like, 'Oh, I didn't know you were doing this, oh I'm doing this too.' I think we have to be coordinate with each other [to keep the stories straight]. Well and to make sure that we're all saying the same thing. And that the CEOs are all saying the same thing."

"If we all decide that we're going to do it outside of research, then we do it outside a research. But if we all decide to do it under research, then we have a different path, that we know we're all registering and doing the same thing," Ginde continued. "If you have someone in a really anti-[abortion] state that's going to be doing this for you they're probably going to get caught."

Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards was on ABC's This Week on Sunday arguing the abortion giant doesn't sell baby parts for profit and that the organization is simply reimbursed for the cost of transferring fetal tissue. However, multiple videos have show Planned Parenthood abortionists haggling over the price of baby parts "per specimen" and trying to get the most money out of each piece. One woman is seen saying she "wants a Lamborghini" while negotiating prices for baby parts.

On a separate note, it is incredible how the abortionists in the video are seen calling specimines a "baby" and a "boy," which goes entirely against the pro-abortion movement's argument that fetuses are not human beings, but instead just a clump of cells.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican legislation to cut off federal funding for Planned Parenthood failed to gather enough support in the U.S. Senate on Monday, halting at least for now moves to punish the women's health group for its role in gathering fetal tissue from abortions for medical research.

Senate Democrats succeeded in stopping the bill on a procedural vote. Sixty votes were needed to advance it in the 100-person chamber. It received 53 votes, with 46 senators opposing it.

Planned Parenthood, which provides healthcare services to millions of women at hundreds of centers nationwide, has come under attack with the online posting of hidden-camera videos produced by an anti-abortion group, Center for Medical Progress.

The group has said the videos show Planned Parenthood officials negotiating prices for fetal tissue from abortions it performs. Planned Parenthood has denied any wrongdoing and has said it does not profit from fetal tissue donation.

Under U.S. law, donated human fetal tissue may be used for research, but profiting from its sale is prohibited.

Republicans are likely to try again in September to stop Planned Parenthood from getting federal funds, which currently amounts to more than $500 million a year.

After a congressional recess in August, conservative Republicans could try to attach their defunding measure to a bill to fund the government, raising the prospect of a possible government shutdown over the issue.

ANGRY DEMOCRATS

The Republicans' efforts have intensified America's long-running debate about abortion just as the 2016 presidential campaign is getting under way. Those efforts have angered many Democrats.

The legislation was "just one more piece of a deliberate, methodical, orchestrated, right-wing attack on women's rights. And I'm sick and tired of it," Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren said. "Women everywhere are sick and tired of it. The American people are sick and tired of it."

"I want to say to my Republican colleagues, the year is 2015, not 1955 and not 1895," Warren added.

Two Democrats, Senators Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Joe Donnelly of Indiana, broke ranks and supported the defunding effort. "I do not believe that taxpayer money should be used to fund this organization; instead those funds should be sent to other healthcare providers," Manchin in a statement.

The legislation's main sponsor was freshman Republican Senator Joni Ernst of Iowa.

"The question before us today is clear: Who do we want to be as a nation? It is hard for anyone to defend these morally reprehensible videos, as Planned Parenthood callously harvested the organs of unborn babies, to be sold at a price," Ernst said.

Just one Senate Republican, Mark Kirk of Illinois, who faces a tough re-election race next year, voted against advancing the bill.

MILLIONS RELY ON PLANNED PARENTHOOD

Planned Parenthood gets up to $500 million per year in Medicaid contributions, and up to $60 million in federal funds for family planning services. U.S. law tightly restricts applying federal funds to abortions.

Millions of women, many young and single, rely on Planned Parenthood for healthcare beyond abortions and family planning, including breast and cervical cancer screenings.

Young, single women are a key demographic for Hillary Clinton, the front-runner to represent the Democratic Party in the November 2016 presidential election.

Clinton has called the online videos "disturbing," while also saying it was "regrettable" that Republicans, allied with anti-abortionists, were trying to cut off funding.

In the videos, anti-abortion activists posed as researchers trying to obtain fetal tissue and, using hidden cameras, interviewed Planned Parenthood officials about potential costs.

In San Francisco on Monday, a federal judge extended a temporary restraining order that stops the group from releasing the videos pending an Aug. 27 hearing. An abortion providers group sued to block the release on privacy grounds.

Brian Chavez-Ochoa, a lawyer for Center for Medical Progress, said his clients have footage that has nothing to do with the plaintiff in the case, the National Abortion Federation, and is not covered by the judge’s injunction.

In Louisiana, Governor Bobby Jindal, one of many seeking the Republican presidential nomination, said on Monday his state was terminating its Medicaid contract with Planned Parenthood.

Three Republican senators seeking the nomination, Texas' Ted Cruz, Kentucky's Rand Paul and Florida's Marco Rubio, voted on Monday in favor of advancing the bill to defund Planned Parenthood. A fourth, South Carolina's Lindsey Graham, was absent.

A Planned Parenthood official discusses the procurement and cost of "intact" fetuses and altering abortion procedures to meet specific needs in a video released Tuesday by an anti-abortion group.

In the fifth video from the Center for Medical Progress, a woman identified as Melissa Farrell, director of research for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, discusses contributing to the organization's "diversification of the revenue stream" and the potential to "get creative" with conditions for procurement needs. The video was reportedly filmed this past April at a Planned Parenthood facility in Texas.

"Just depending on the patient's anatomy, how many weeks, where it's placed in the uterus ... we're going to potentially be able to have some that will be more or less intact, and then some that will not be," she said.

"But it's something that we can look at exploring how we can make that happen so we have a higher chance," she adds.

Planned Parenthood has pushed back strongly on four other videos released in the past few weeks, noting that the recordings are heavily edited and maintaining that the group does not profit off the transfer of aborted fetal parts and tissue to researchers but merely gather costs relating to the tissue's preservation and transfer.

The organization did not immediately return a request for comment on the latest video.

"And we've had studies in which the company, or in the case of the investigator, has a specific need for a certain portion of the products of conception and we bake that into our contract, and our protocol, that we follow this. So we deviate from our standard in order to do that," the Planned Parenthood official says in the latest video.

"If we alter our process and we are able to obtain intact fetal cadavers, then we can make it part of the budget, that any dissections are this, and splitting the specimens into different shipments is this. I mean, it's all just a matter of line items," she adds later.

The Center for Medical Progress's David Daleiden said earlier Tuesday on CNN's “New Day" that the video showed evidence "how Planned Parenthood is willing to sell fully intact fetuses to buyers of aborted fetal tissue.”

Debate over federal funding for Planned Parenthood is expected to resume on Capitol Hill after the August recess, after a measure to defund the group failed in the Senate on Monday.

Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards defended the group on Monday, saying the Senate vote was “about denying women access to healthcare in this country.”

Several more videos from the Center for Medical Progress are expected to be released.

New Hampshire Defunds Planned Parenthood

Officials in the state of New Hampshire have voted to defund the abortion giant Planned Parenthood on Wednesday, canceling its $650,000 contract.

The 3-2 party line vote by the State Executive Council comes as a result of a series of videos released by the Center for Medical Progress, showing that the organization harvests the organs of aborted babies donated by their mothers, and sells them to scientific companies who pay the organization the body parts.

The majority vote comes despite objections from Gov. Mary Hassan, who also released a statement decrying the decision.

“The council’s vote to defund Planned Parenthood will hurt the health and economic well-being of thousands of Granite Staters,” she said. “Moving forward, I will continue to fight to ensure that women and families have access to the important health services that are essential to the economic security and vitality of our families.”

But the the State Executive Council is calling for an investigation into Planned Parenthood, and the Republican State Committee is backing the proposition. The Committee is also requesting that funding be reallocated to other women’s health organizations.

“The appalling videos showing Planned Parenthood executives discussing the sale of human body parts have raised serious and legitimate concerns,” said Chair Jennifer Horn in a statement. “Instead of calling for an investigation of Planned Parenthood’s potentially criminal activity, Governor Hassan has turned a blind eye to this controversy and tried to give more taxpayer dollars to this scandal-plagued organization.”

“It’s time for Governor Hassan to put politics aside and work with the Commissioner of Health and Human Services and the Executive Council to identify alternative health care providers to cover the services that were included in this contract,” she stated.

The legal organization Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) also applauded the council for its move.

“The people of New Hampshire should not be forced to fund a billion-dollar corporation that was caught on camera negotiating the sale of baby body parts,” said ADF Senior Counsel Casey Mattox. “The New Hampshire Executive Council should therefore be commended for ending the use of state taxpayer dollars for such barbarism.”

“No one should miss the horrific reality of what Planned Parenthood does behind closed doors, as revealed in the recently released undercover videos,” he continued. “Our tax dollars should fund local public health clinics, not corporate welfare for Planned Parenthood. We join the call … for New Hampshire’s attorney general to thoroughly investigate Planned Parenthood.”

The state of New Hampshire has contracts with Planned Parenthood of Northern New England in the amount of $385,000; Planned Parenthood NNE-Claremont in the amount of $253,900; Weeks Medical Center in the amount of $117,100; Joan Lovering Health Center in the amount of $134,200; and Concord Feminist Health Center in the amount of $179,800.

Texas Planned Parenthood Official: Sale of ‘Intact Fetal Cadavers’ Is ‘Just a Matter of Line Items’

The fifth investigative video into Planned Parenthood’s harvesting and sale of fetal organs released by the Center for Medical Progress shows a Texas director describing how abortion procedures can be “creatively” altered to pull the baby’s body out intact, depending on the demand.

The video, released on Tuesday, captures Melissa Farrell, director of research for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast discussing with undercover investigators the “diversification of the revenue stream” over dinner along with a visit to the organization’s pathology lab, where workers sort through the remains of aborted babies.

During one segment of the video, the investigators, who pose as potential buyers, ask if abortion procedures can be manipulated to remove certain organs intact—or even the entire baby.

“Just depending on the patient’s anatomy, how many weeks, where it’s placed in the uterus … we’re going to potentially be able to have some that will be more or less intact and then some that will not be,” Farrell responds.

She explains that the organization is willing to “alter” the abortion to accommodate the demand.

Farrell further outlines that when abortionists need to get a whole body part out without crushing it, where there’s a will, there’s a way.

“When it matters—in the cases of when it’s mattered—physicians also need an intact specimen, they can make it happen. So they do it in a way that they get the best specimens,” she says. “So I know it can happen.”

Following the video’s release, Planned Parenthood Executive Vice President Dawn Laguens remarked in a statement that the footage was “offensive,” but only because it is “intrusive” into what happens to women’s babies following their death.

“[T]he latest tape shows an extremely offensive intrusion and lack of respect for women, with footage of medical tissue in a lab. These extremists show a total lack of compassion and dignity for women’s most personal medical decisions,” she said.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott likewise released a statement, but contended that the footage rather shows Planned Parenthood’s “disrespect for human life.” An investigation is currently being conducted regarding the organization’s practices.

“The latest video showing Planned Parenthood’s treatment of unborn children in a Houston clinic is repulsive and unconscionable,” Abbott said in a statement. “Selling baby body parts is the furthest thing imaginable from providing women’s healthcare, and this organization’s repeated and systematic disrespect for human life is appalling.”

“The State of Texas is aggressively investigating this matter and must use all available legal remedies to address this depraved conduct,” he said.

Barack Obama has already pledged to stop all attempts to defund Planned Parenthood, and he is very proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with them. An independent investigation has found that the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in its association with the National Population Council of Mexico (CONAPO), supports involuntary sterilization and coercive family planning in Mexico.

According to Mexico’s National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), which recently denounced coercion in family planning programs throughout Mexico, “Public health servants have imposed methods of family planning on the native population without their consent and without informing them of the risks.” Threats and bribes are used to deprive men and women of their right to determine for themselves the timing and spacing of pregnancies.

It has also been found that CONAPO has established national quotas (for family planning users) which are fulfilled by regional hospitals and by teams of local family planning workers. CONAPO’s coercive family planning program, which involves forced sterilization, is heavily supported by UNFPA with financial, strategic, technical and medical support. In its fourth cycle of assistance with Mexico, UNFPA is scheduled to provide $12 million for population control over the next five years.

Over 40 case studies of victims were obtained in Mexico this summer, noting the following abuses: covert abortion under the guise of “normalization of menstruation”; clandestine placement of IUDs, and involuntary signing of “informed consent” documents in order to sterilize victim. In one alarming case, a woman testified that, while undergoing a caesarian delivery, her fallopian tubes were ligated (tied) without her foreknowledge or consent.

The UN Population Fund has been caught doing similar things in Peru, in China and elsewhere. In India, “health officials” were even offering motorcycles, televisions and new cars to women in an attempt to get them sterilized.

And if you don’t think that this will ever come to the United States, you are sadly mistaken. Barack Obama’s top science adviser, John P. Holdren, believes that implanting sterilization capsules under the skin of American women could be an effective way of stabilizing the size of the population in the United States…

A program of sterilizing women after their second or third child, despite the relatively greater difficulty of the operation than vasectomy, might be easier to implement than trying to sterilize men.

The development of a long-term sterilizing capsule that could be implanted under the skin and removed when pregnancy is desired opens additional possibilities for coercive fertility control. The capsule could be implanted at puberty and might be removable, with official permission, for a limited number of births.

If that sounds evil to you, that is because it is evil.

Most Americans also do not know that sterilization will not cost women a single penny under Obamacare. A new regulation that recently went into effect requires that all health plans must fully cover sterilization for all women with “reproductive capacity”.

Why would Obama want this?

That would mean a reduction of more than 90 percent from the current level.

U.S. Congress inquiry into Planned Parenthood widens

Several Planned Parenthood officials and three private bio-medical firms were targeted on Friday by a U.S. congressional panel as lawmakers dig deeper into a controversy swirling around the women's health organization.

A U.S. House of Representatives committee made public a letter requesting interviews with personnel from the organization who appeared in surreptitiously recorded videos in discussions about providing fetal tissue for research.

House Energy and Commerce Committee Republicans also said they had written to three companies identified as human fetal tissue suppliers to request information and briefings.

Lawmakers on the committee said last month they would investigate after the videos were released by an anti-abortion activist group called the Center for Medical Progress.

The videos purport to show Planned Parenthood officials negotiating prices for aborted fetal tissue. Under federal law, donated human fetal tissue may be used for research, but profiting from its sale is prohibited. Compensation for the tissue can cover only the costs of handling it.

Planned Parenthood, which provides healthcare services to millions of women at hundreds of centers nationwide, has denied any wrongdoing. The organization also says abortions make up just 3 percent of its work.

Energy and Commerce's letter to Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards requested "informal interviews" with Dr. Mary Gatter, Dr. Savita Ginde, and Melissa Farrell. It identified Gatter as president of the organization's Medical Director's Council; Ginde as vice president and medical director of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains; and Farrell as director of research for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast.

"As you know, in several recent videotapes made public, these individuals have made statements concerning the manner in which fetal tissue is procured," the committee letter said.

"We are examining whether these statements ... are consistent with existing laws," said the letter, signed by the panel's chairman, Representative Fred Upton, and others.

A Planned Parenthood official said the organization had the letter, and would continue to cooperate fully with the committee.

Letters also went to three companies that provide fetal tissue to medical researchers, seeking information on the tissue collection and sale or donation, including pricing.

The companies were Advanced Bioscience Resources, Inc.; Novogenix Laboratories, and StemExpress. All three are based in California; none responded to requests for comment from Reuters.

Energy and Commerce is one of at least three congressional committees investigating Planned Parenthood in the wake of the videos. Some conservative Republicans also want to cut off Planned Parenthood's federal funds.

“I respect human life, and I do not want Alabama to be associated with an organization that does not,” Gov. Robert Bentley Tweeted on Thursday. “The deplorable practices at Planned Parenthood have been exposed to Americans. I’ve terminated any association with the organization in AL.”

His office also wrote a letter to Planned Parenthood Southeast, providing advance notice that the Alabama Medicaid office will discontinue the state’s contract with the group in 15 days. According to reports, the state had reimbursed Planned Parenthood for over $4,000 in contraceptives and IUD’s over the past year.

Planned Parenthood Southeast asserted that Alabama could not legally cancel its Medicaid contract.

“The courts have been clear that the federal law prohibits states from excluding abortion providers from Medicaid,” President Staci Fox told reporters. “Planned Parenthood’s doors remain open and we will continue to provide high-quality, compassionate care to the women and men who rely on us.”

Alabama becomes the third state to defund Planned Parenthood, with the announcement coming just days behind New Hampshire and Louisiana.

As previously reported, the New Hampshire State Executive Council voted on Wednesday despite objections from Gov. Mary Hassan to cancel its $650,000 contract with the abortion giant. The funds will be reallocated to other women’s health facilities.

“It’s time for Governor Hassan to put politics aside and work with the Commissioner of Health and Human Services and the Executive Council to identify alternative health care providers to cover the services that were included in this contract,” said Republican State Committee Chair Jennifer Horn in a statement.

On Tuesday, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal announced that the state would terminate Planned Parenthood’s Medicaid contract.

“Planned Parenthood does not represent the values of the people of Louisiana and shows a fundamental disrespect for human life,” he said. “It has become clear that this is not an organization that is worthy of receiving public assistance from the state.”

Planned Parenthood likewise released a statement asserting that Jindal was “aligning with extremists.”

“Governor Jindal has aligned himself with extremists who are hell-bent on ending access to safe, legal abortion,” stated Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. “It is almost impossible to believe that Governor Bobby Jindal’s shameful record of restricting women’s access to health care in Louisiana could get any worse.”

The decision to defund Planned Parenthood comes as a result of a series of videos released by the Center for Medical Progress, showing that the organization harvests the organs of aborted babies donated by their mothers and sells them to scientific companies who pay the organization for the body parts. Additional videos are expected to be released in the days and weeks to come.

New video alleges Planned Parenthood partner does not obtain consent for fetal donations

A former technician for a company that worked with Planned Parenthood said there were occasions when fetal specimens would be taken without a mother’s consent.

The allegations are part of a new video from the Center for Medical Progress, an anti-abortion activist group that has released a series of undercover and first-person interview videos focusing on Planned Parenthood and its partners.

“If there was a higher gestation and the technicians needed it, there were times they would just take what they want,” said Holly O’Donnell, the ex-procurement tech for StemExpress who is featured in the 10-minute release.

“And these mothers don’t know. And there’s no way they would know.”

CMP has been the target of two restraining orders by federal judges – including one from StemExpress – banning them from releasing some of their recordings. But the Los Angeles Superior Court order only bars CMP from releasing video of three StemExpress officials taken at a restaurant in May. Wednesday’s video of O’Donnell would not appear to violate that limited order.

O’Donnell was the subject of a previous CMP release on July 28. In that video, she claimed there was “incentive” to get hard tissue because “you’re going to get more money.”

The new O’Donnell video focuses on consent – or an alleged lack thereof.

An alleged consent form that is required to be signed by patients choosing to donate after an abortion requires the patient to certify they have already consented to get an abortion.

“Yea, no. That doesn’t happen all the time,” O’Donnell said. “Some of these women don’t know if they’re going to get an abortion. Some aren’t 100 percent they’re going to get it done.”

In a July 14 statement, Planned Parenthood said tissue donation is always done with “full, appropriate consent from patients and under the highest ethical and legal standards.”

However, though O’Donnell said she was the only licensed phlebotomy tech on site, other coworkers would still draw patient’s blood, sometimes without consent.

“The coworkers I had, they would not consent the donors,” O’Donnell said.

O’Donnell said she once tried to get a patient to consent and the patient declined. The next day another technician took the same patient into a room and emerged holding tubes full of blood.

“I said, ‘What did you say to get that blood?’” O’Donnell recalled. “She said, ‘Nothing.’”

O’Donnell, who described herself as pro-life, said she would not push patients to sign consent forms or get abortions, something she said was looked down upon by one of her bosses.

“She told me, ‘It’s not an option. Like, it’s a demand. That’s what your job is,” O’Donnell said.

Previous videos have appeared to show Planned Parenthood officials admitting the organization alters abortion procedures to procure fetal tissue, deliver intact fetuses and sell fetal tissue for profit. Each of those practices is against federal law.

Planned Parenthood has denied breaking any laws and has said payments discussed in the videos relates to reimbursement costs for procuring the tissue – which is legal.

“These extremists show a total lack of compassion and dignity for women’s most personal medical decisions,” an Aug. 4 statement from Planned Parenthood said.

“Human Capitol Episode 2: Inside the Planned Parenthood Supply Site” is the sixth release from CMP.

The videos have brought investigations of Planned Parenthood's policies on aborted fetuses by three Republican-led congressional committees and three states. Investigators in Florida cited four Planned Parenthood clinics for violations last week.

The Senate failed last week to advance a Republican-led measure to halt federal aid to Planned Parenthood. The vote to bring debate on the bill was 53-46, shy of the 60 votes needed to move on.

Alveda King: Planned Parenthood worse than grave robbers

As more graphic details about Planned Parenthood’s and StemExpress’ deceptive tactics continue to be exposed, Dr. Alveda King candidly expressed her take on the major players in the abortion industry, likening them to depraved “grave robbers.”

“Their use of trickery to achieve political, financial, or legal purposes knows no limits,” King contends. “The abortion/body harvesting machine is now admitting that they also procure adult stem cells from the mothers they have sometimes butchered and even killed.”

The niece of Dr. Martin Luther King believes that it is about time that the American public becomes aware of the hidden atrocities that Planned Parenthood and StemExpress have been getting away with for years in the name of advancing medicine.

“Their underhanded schemes, corruption and political chicanery are no longer behind closed doors,” the Democrat-turned-Republican proclaimed. “The Center for Medical Progress (CMP) is keeping it out in the open.”

King said the practices being administered by Planned Parenthood and StemExpress show their true depravity, which should not be obscured with euphemisms often touted by the media.

“We could call the body snatchers grave robbers, but since their baby victims rarely get a decent burial, we have to call a spade a spade,” the 64-year-old Christian leader asserts. “These people kill and harvest people for profit.”

Exposing exploiters?

She insists that both abortion profiteers take advantage of pregnant women’s stressful predicaments for their own financial gain.

“They are taking stem cells and body parts at a time when the mother is awaiting their abortion ‘services,’" King informed. “She is likely conflicted, sedated, scared and subject to agree to anything without understanding what is really happening while she is in their clutches.”

The Atlanta native argues that both Planned Parenthood and StemExpress are making double profits off women, charging them for killing the babies whose body parts they then sell for more proceeds.

“Meanwhile, the abortion providers and scientists are after her baby's body parts, umbilical cord blood, mothers eggs and ovaries and God knows what else they might be harvesting and trading for money,” the pro-life advocate explains. “And they charge the mother upfront and make her sign papers to cover their trail. She consents and pays a fee for impending doom.”

King emphasizes that both Planned Parenthood and StemExpress repeatedly deny being in the deliberate business of profiting off of abortions, quoting their response to the allegations brought before them by part six of CMP’s expose.

"[We] never obtained blood or tissue samples from a patient without first obtaining consent," a statement from representatives of the two abortion businesses expressed. "Like all of their previous material, today's video by CMP is deceptively edited and falsely worded to suggest impropriety or illegality where none exists.”

Both went on to say that they are providing a service for humanity and forwarding medicine — mentioning nothing about killing healthy preborn children and selling their mutilated body parts for a profit, while charging mothers for conducting the lethal procedures.

“CMP's continued efforts to malign StemExpress — a life sciences company that predominantly supplies adult cells, blood and tissue to the nation's leading researchers — will only serve to slow the pace of life-saving medical research aimed at curing disease and extending quality of life for millions of Americans." The statement from Planned Parenthood and StemExpress concluded.

Politicians not doing enough

King expressed her frustration with the way those campaigning for the White House are going about trying to solve the problem with the abortion industry. She maintains that just defunding Planned Parenthood solves the abortion problem as effectively as putting a small bandage on a gaping wound.

“I wonder if Donald Trump and other presidential hopefuls have taken time to study the history of Planned Parenthood,” the civil rights leader challenged. “Mr. Trump and maybe millions of Americans seem to think that if the government only cuts or bans PPH abortion funding, that the abortion giant and their cohorts like StemExpress will be salvageable and can offer something good to society. That's like giving a lion a pedicure, ignoring its fangs and letting it loose on unsuspecting victims.”

What’s really behind Planned Parenthood?

The Baptist, who authored How Can the Dream Survive If We Murder the Children?: Abortion Is Not a Civil Right!, is a longtime opponent of Planned Parenthood and has quoted its founder, Margaret Sanger, for a notorious remark she once made.

“Colored people are like human weeds and are to be exterminated,” Sanger insisted in the midst of her abortion movement, according to King.

Leading a new charge to expose the true agenda of Planned Parenthood and its founder, King recently signed aletter demanding that the Smithsonian Institution remove its statue and other images of Sanger from its National Portrait Gallery. In the letter, Sanger’s racist and elitist past is brought to light, noting how she promoted the elimination of African Americans, who she considered “unworthy of life.”

The outspoken pro-life leader also mentioned another quote from Sanger’s book, Women and the New Race, where she calls for "weeding out the unfit, of preventing the birth of defectives or those who will become defective."

King then spurred Americans to seriously ponder the issue of abortion when considering the better of the two female presidential candidates in the running — Hillary Clinton and Carly Fiorina — stressing that their stance on the sanctity of human life should be a determining factor.

“Currently there are two women running for President of the U.S.,” the pro-family advocate reminded Americans. “Which one really cares about women?”

She pointed out that 17 candidates in the Fox News debates opposed abortion and incited other Americans to take a stand for the preborn, as well.

“Are preachers, politicians, leaders, and lay people listening?” King asked. “Is America ready to hear the truth? It's really time to PRAY for AMERICA.”

THE PLANNED PARENTHOOD FEDERATION OF AMERICA MARGARET SANGER AWARD

In 1966, Planned Parenthood Federation of America inaugurated the PPFA Margaret Sanger Award to honor the woman who founded America's family planning movement. The PPFA Margaret Sanger Award is given annually to individuals of distinction in recognition of excellence and leadership in furthering reproductive health and reproductive rights.
In its first year, the award was bestowed upon four men:

Dr. Carl G. Hartman, for "his singular contribution to human knowledge of the reproductive processes"
General William H. Draper Jr., for "his singular contribution during the past decade to the mobilization of public awareness and government action to resolve the world population crisis"
President Lyndon Baines Johnson, for "his vigorous and farsighted leadership in bringing the United States government to enunciate and implement an affirmative, effective population policy at home and abroad"
The Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., for "his courageous resistance to bigotry and his lifelong dedication to the advancement of social justice and human dignity"

Dr. King's award was presented on May 5, 1966. The citation read

Family Planning - A Special and Urgent Concern by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

Recently, the press has been filled with reports of sightings of flying saucers. While we need not give credence to these stories, they allow our imagination to speculate on how visitors from outer space would judge us. I am afraid they would be stupefied at our conduct. They would observe that for death planning we spend billions to create engines and strategies for war. They would also observe that we spend millions to prevent death by disease and other causes. Finally they would observe that we spend paltry sums for population planning, even though its spontaneous growth is an urgent threat to life on our planet. Our visitors from outer space could be forgiven if they reported home that our planet is inhabited by a race of insane men whose future is bleak and uncertain.
There is no human circumstance more tragic than the persisting existence of a harmful condition for which a remedy is readily available. Family planning, to relate population to world resources, is possible, practical and necessary. Unlike plagues of the dark ages or contemporary diseases we do not yet understand, the modern plague of overpopulation is soluble by means we have discovered and with resources we possess.

What is lacking is not sufficient knowledge of the solution but universal consciousness of the gravity of the problem and education of the billions who are its victims.
It is easier for a Negro to understand a social paradox because he has lived so long with evils that could be eradicated but were perpetuated by indifference or ignorance. The Negro finally had to devise unique methods to deal with his problem, and perhaps the measure of success he is realizing can be an inspiration to others coping with tenacious social problems.

In our struggle for equality we were confronted with the reality that many millions of people were essentially ignorant of our conditions or refused to face unpleasant truths. The hard-core bigot was merely one of our adversaries. The millions who were blind to our plight had to be compelled to face the social evil their indifference permitted to flourish.

After centuries of relative silence and enforced acceptance, we adapted a technique of exposing the problem by direct and dramatic methods. We had confidence that when we awakened the nation to the immorality and evil of inequality, there would be an upsurge of conscience followed by remedial action.
We knew that there were solutions and that the majority of the nation were ready for them. Yet we also knew that the existence of solutions would not automatically operate to alter conditions. We had to organize, not only arguments, but people in the millions for action. Finally we had to be prepared to accept all the consequences involved in dramatizing our grievances in the unique style we had devised.

There is a striking kinship between our movement and Margaret Sanger's early efforts. She, like we, saw the horrifying conditions of ghetto life. Like we, she knew that all of society is poisoned by cancerous slums. Like we, she was a direct actionist - a nonviolent resister. She was willing to accept scorn and abuse until the truth she saw was revealed to the millions. At the turn of the century she went into the slums and set up a birth control clinic, and for this deed she went to jail because she was violating an unjust law. Yet the years have justified her actions. She launched a movement which is obeying a higher law to preserve human life under humane conditions. Margaret Sanger had to commit what was then called a crime in order to enrich humanity, and today we honor her courage and vision; for without them there would have been no beginning. Our sure beginning in the struggle for equality by nonviolent direct action may not have been so resolute without the tradition established by Margaret Sanger and people like her. Negroes have no mere academic nor ordinary interest in family planning. They have a special and urgent concern.

Recently the subject of Negro family life has received extensive attention. Unfortunately, studies have overemphasized the problem of the Negro male ego and almost entirely ignored the most serious element - Negro migration. During the past half century Negroes have migrated on a massive scale, transplanting millions from rural communities to crammed urban ghettoes. In their migration, as with all migrants, they carried with them the folkways of the countryside into an inhospitable city slum. The size of family that may have been appropriate and tolerable on a manually cultivated farm was carried over to the jammed streets of the ghetto. In all respects Negroes were atomized, neglected and discriminated against. Yet, the worst omission was the absence of institutions to acclimate them to their new environment. Margaret Sanger, who offered an important institutional remedy, was unfortunately ignored by social and political leaders in this period. In consequence, Negro folkways in family size persisted. The problem was compounded when unrestrained exploitation and discrimination accented the bewilderment of the newcomer, and high rates of illegitimacy and fragile family relationships resulted.

For the Negro, therefore, intelligent guides of family planning are a profoundly important ingredient in his quest for security and a decent life. There are mountainous obstacles still separating Negroes from a normal existence. Yet one element in stabilizing his life would be an understanding of and easy access to the means to develop a family related in size to his community environment and to the income potential he can command.
This is not to suggest that the Negro will solve all his problems through Planned Parenthood. His problems are far more complex, encompassing economic security, education, freedom from discrimination, decent housing and access to culture. Yet if family planning is sensible it can facilitate or at least not be an obstacle to the solution of the many profound problems that plague him.

The Negro constitutes half the poor of the nation. Like all poor, Negro and white, they have many unwanted children. This is a cruel evil they urgently need to control. There is scarcely anything more tragic in human life than a child who is not wanted. That which should be a blessing becomes a curse for parent and child. There is nothing inherent in the Negro mentality which creates this condition. Their poverty causes it. When Negroes have been able to ascend economically, statistics reveal they plan their families with even greater care than whites. Negroes of higher economic and educational status actually have fewer children than white families in the same circumstances.

Some commentators point out that with present birth rates it will not be long before Negroes are a majority in many of the major cities of the nation. As a consequence, they can be expected to take political control, and many people are apprehensive at this prospect. Negroes do not seek political control by this means. They seek only what they are entitled to and do not wish for domination purchased at the cost of human misery. Negroes were once bred by slave owners to be sold as merchandise. They do not welcome any solution which involves population breeding as a weapon. They are instinctively sympathetic to all who offer methods that will improve their lives and offer them fair opportunity to develop and advance as all other people in our society.

For these reasons we are natural allies of those who seek to inject any form of planning in our society that enriches life and guarantees the right to exist in freedom and dignity.
For these constructive movements we are prepared to give our energies and consistent support; because in the need for family planning, Negro and white have a common bond; and together we can and should unite our strength for the wise preservation, not of races in general, but of the one race we all constitute - the human race.

Margaret Sanger was too ill to attend the award ceremony in May 1966. She died the following September. Mrs. Sanger would have been deeply honored and pleased to have heard such beautiful tributes from kindred heroes in the struggle for equality and civil rights, Dr. and Mrs. Martin Luther King Jr.

About two weeks after the award ceremony, Dr. King wrote the following letter to Cass Canfield, chairman of the Executive Committee of the PPFA - World Population Emergency Campaign:

Dear Mr. Canfield:

Words are inadequate for me to say how honored I was to be the recipient of the Margaret Sanger Award. This award will remain among my most cherished possessions. While I cannot claim to be worthy of such a signal honor, I can assure you that I accept it with deep humility and sincere gratitude. Such a wonderful expression of support is of inestimable value for the continuance of my humble efforts.

Again let me say how much I regret that at the last minute urgent developments in the civil rights movement made it impossible for me to be in Washington to personally receive the award. My wife brought glowing echoes of the wonderful reception and impressiveness of the total occasion.

I am happy to be the recipient of the Margaret Sanger Award and I can assure you that this distinct honor will cause me to work even harder for a reign of justice and a rule of love all over our nation.

Utah Governor Orders State Agencies to Stop Disbursing Federal Funds to Planned Parenthood

Gov. Gary Herbert has ordered all state agencies to stop funneling federal funds to the Planned Parenthood Association of Utah.

The federal government provides grants to Planned Parenthood that are distributed through the Utah Department of Health. Utah law already bars any organization from using state funds for abortions, and that prohibition extends to Planned Parenthood’s federal grants, Herbert said in a statement Friday afternoon.

Herbert’s order came in response to the release of secretly recorded videos by an anti-abortion group showing Planned Parenthood officials describing how they provide fetal tissue from abortions for medical research.

“The allegations against Planned Parenthood are deeply troubling,” Herbert said.

The governor noted that other government agencies and nonprofits will still provide education and prevention programs for sexually transmitted diseases.

Karrie Galloway, Planned Parenthood Association of Utah executive director, slammed the decision Friday evening.

“To be perfectly honest, I’m appalled that the governor is making policy decisions according to news reports of allegations — without looking at Planned Parenthood’s 50-year history in the state of Utah,” she said, “and the fact that we have never erroneously used any state or federal money outside the rules.”

Galloway added that she understands and appreciates that no state money can be used for abortions.

“The money he is talking about is for education,” she said. “It’s federal money that we applied for through a [request for proposal] with the state health department to do evidence-based programs to reduce teen pregnancy. We celebrated those numbers going down about six months ago. Eliminating Planned Parenthood from participating in that is not the right move.”

According to numbers released by the governor’s office, Planned Parenthood’s budget for fiscal 2015 includes about $100,000 for STD testing and reporting, $115,000 for “abstinence education and personal responsibility education” and $1,339 for providing pregnancy tests and STD screenings to victims of **** and sexual assault.

Galloway further called Herbert’s decision “purely political.”

“It doesn’t make any sense other than the fact that he’s a GOP governor,” she said, “and the GOP wants to defund Planned Parenthood.”

Republicans around the country have targeted Planned Parenthood after several videos were released by the anti-abortion Center for Medical Progress.

The center said the videos showed Planned Parenthood illegally sells fetal tissue for profit. Planned Parenthood said the organization receives legal payment only for the cost of the procedure and requires a mother’s consent before the tissue is given to researchers.

Rep. Angela Romero, D-Salt Lake City, also found the governor’s decision “unfortunate.”

“We’re reacting to political propaganda,” Romero said.

She added that abortions are only a small part of what the organization provides, including contraceptive services, family planning, and screenings for STDs and cancer.

When Romero was young, she said, Planned Parenthood was her only resource for health care, since she didn’t have insurance.

“It’s a great resource for our community,” she said.

Video StemExpress Sought to Block Released: We Work with ‘Almost Triple Digit’ Volume Abortion Facilities

The Center for Medical Progress has now released at least one of the videos that the Planned Parenthood business partner StemExpress sought to block in court after a California appeals court denied the fetal tissue company a preliminary injunction against the release of the undercover footage with its CEO.

The video, released on Tuesday, features CEO Cate Dyer, who discussing a potential business partnership with what she believes is a human biologics company. She speaks with them over dinner about her current arrangements with abortion facilities, noting that StemExpress works with high volume suppliers.

“As you see Megan out there in clinics, we’re working with almost triple digit number clinics, so it’s a lot on volume and we still need more than what we do,” she says. “So, it’s a lot. So, I don’t think you’re going to hit a capacity with us anytime in the next ten years.”

Dyer notes that she would like to obtain “another 50 livers a week” when asked what would make her happy.

She also discusses how some researchers express shock and unease when they open a package and find recognizable baby body parts inside.

“As you probably know, one of the issues with neural tissue, it’s so fragile. It’s insanely fragile,” she says. “I know we get requests for neural, it’s the hardest thing in the world to ship.”

“You do it as the whole calvarium (head),” the undercover investigator filming the encounter states.

“Yeah, that’s the easiest way. And we’ve actually had good success with that,” Dyer replies.

“Make sure the eyes are closed!” the investigator quips.

“Yeah!” Dyer responds, laughing. “Tell the lab it’s coming, so they don’t open the box and go, ‘Oh G*d!’”

When the undercover investigator asks why come lab techs respond in such manner, Dyer explains that they would rather not realize the reality of the situation in seeing the body parts as a whole.

“It’s almost like they don’t want to know where it comes from,” she outlines. “Where they’re like, ‘We need limbs, but no hands and feet need to be attached.’ … Or they want long bones, and they want you to take it all off, like, make it so that we don’t know what it is.”

“And this just goes to their whole stigma,” the investigators state.

“Oh yeah,” Dyer agrees. “And their lab techs freak out and have meltdowns so its just kind of like, yeah.”

The StemExpress CEO then explains that she believes it is the reason why some researches prefer to deal with adult pathology “because they sort of want to get away from having to publish a picture—a paper—that says they derived this from fetal tissue.”

When the undercover investigators mention that they would like to seek to make the arrangement financially profitable for all sides of the agreement, Dyer asks if they have seen abortion facilities that don’t profit from the arrangement and notes that she has not seen any such situations.

“You feel like there are clinics out there that have been burned, that feel like they’re doing all this work for research and it hasn’t been profitable for them?” she asks. “I haven’t seen that…”

Dyer has now also released a statement regarding the footage, asserting that reports that the babies are delivered to the company as a whole are inaccurate, but rather it is the fetal organs that may arrive in one piece.

“My use of the term ‘intact cases’ is a medical term of art that refers solely to ‘intact livers,’ as there was absolutely no mention of ‘intact fetuses’ at any point,” she said in a company release. “Consistent with the company’s prior public statements, StemExpress has never requested, received or provided to a researcher an ‘intact fetus.’”

“The suction destroys everything and it gets to the point where I mean you could look at 60 cases and get nothing,” Dyer added. “It’s just red water by the time it gets to us.”

She did not deny or contest any other parts of the footage.

While some have contended that the videos are misleading because they are edited, the Center for Medical Progress has released a number of the hours-long undercover videos in their entirety on YouTube.

Congress' Planned Parenthood Investigation Has Turned Up 'No Evidence,' House Dems Say
Two different House committees are going after the family planning provider.

The same day the GOP-controlled House Judiciary Committee held a hearing to "expose" Planned Parenthood's "horrific abortion practices," members of another House committee announced that their federal investigation into the family planning provider has so far turned up no evidence of wrongdoing.

The Judiciary Committee brought three longtime anti-abortion activists to testify at the hearing on Wednesday, including two women who claim they "survived" botched abortions that their mothers had attempted. The Democrats were allowed one witness, a Yale University professor who supports abortion rights. Planned Parenthood was not invited to testify at the hearing.

Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) said the hearing was justified because Planned Parenthood "is granted huge amounts of federal funds, making it our business as members of Congress" to investigate its practices.

Anti-abortion activists released a series of heavily edited undercover videos last month that accuse Planned Parenthood of selling fetal tissue after abortions. But multiple state investigations and the federal investigation being conducted by the House Energy and Commerce Committee have so far been unable to find any facts to support that claim.

Just before the Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday, the ranking Democrats on the Energy and Commerce Committee announced that their investigation has found "no evidence" to support the claims that Planned Parenthood is engaged in any illegal activities.

"Over the last month, we have carefully reviewed the facts at hand and the materials provided to us as a result of the majority's inquiry," said Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone Jr. (D-N.J.) and Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Ranking Member Diana DeGette (D-Co.) in a statement.

"Despite the incendiary rhetoric, we have looked strictly at the facts. We are continuing to do our due diligence, but we have found these claims to be unsubstantiated," the statement read.

Republicans on the Energy and Commerce Committee have not yet released their findings from the investigation.

The Judiciary Committee, meanwhile, did not appear to be concerned with the facts of the Planned Parenthood investigation. Lawmakers instead used the hearing as an opportunity to decry abortion in general. An emotional Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) called abortion "the worst human rights atrocity in the history of the United States of America."
"What is so liberating about brutally and painfully dismembering living, helpless human babies?" Franks said.

Franks is one of 28 House Republicans, all men, who are threatening to shut down the federal government in November if the budget bill includes any funding for Planned Parenthood. The family planning provider receives about $500 million in government funding each year, which it uses to subsidize services like birth control, cancer screenings and sexually transmitted disease treatments for low-income patients.

Federal law already prohibits taxpayer dollars from being used to pay for abortions.
Democrats on the Judiciary Committee defended the family planning provider at the hearing, noting that millions of people rely on Planned Parenthood for basic health care and family planning services.

"Planned Parenthood serves 2.7 million Americans a year, and 1 in 3 women will have used Planned Parenthood services by the age of 45," Ranking Member John Conyers (D-Mich.) told colleagues. “Some abortion opponents are attempting to use these videos as a pretext to end federal funding for Planned Parenthood. If successful, this effort would hurt those who rely on Planned Parenthood’s services, and doing so would not prevent abortions."

Make Obama choose: Fund gov't or Planned Parenthood

A pro-family organization is calling for lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives to use a bolder strategy in their effort to defund Planned Parenthood.

"What we are looking for is to take these kinds of ideas and attach them to a continuing resolution in must-pass legislation," says Ed Vitagliano, speaking on behalf of the American Family Association.

The U.S. House has passed and sent to the Senate bills to defund Planned Parenthood for one year, and to provide criminal penalties for abortion clinic workers who don't try to save the lives of babies born alive during abortions.

"Because the facts on the ground are that these bills are not going to see the light of day," Vitagliano explains. "The Senate will not pass this and the President would certainly veto it."

The continuing resolution would have to pass to fund the federal government, meaning President Obama's veto – in defense of Planned Parenthood – would trigger a shutdown of the federal government.

Planned Parenthood receives approximately a half-billion dollars a year from the federal government, hence U.S. taxpayers.

The pro-life bills surfaced in response to undercover videos, now 10 of them, that have put Planned Parenthood and its defenders on the defensive over the harvesting of baby body parts for medical research.

In one video, a whistleblower describes how she helped a co-worker slice through the face of an aborted baby to harvest the brain, with the heart still beating.

Planned Parenthood, meanwhile, claims the videos from the Center for Medical Progress are "heavily edited" and hence somehow untrue, a claim that Democrats are trumpeting - without watching the videos themselves.

"We want to force the President's hand," Vitagliano says of AFA's proposal. "And in fact we want to make sure that everyone in Congress is on record, because this horrific practice by Planned Parenthood needs to be exposed."

Planned Parenthood performs about 40 percent of the abortions in the United States annually.

The House votes to defund Planned Parenthood

On Friday, the House of Representatives passed two pro-life bills, including a measure that would defund Planned Parenthood for one year unless it stopped performing abortions.

The House passed Rep. Diane Black's Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015 on a 241-187 vote. Two Democrats voted in favor of the measure; three Republicans voted against it.

The House also voted in favor of Rep. Trent Franks' Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection bill, 248-177.

"Planned Parenthood takes half-a-billion dollars each year from struggling taxpayers to use in its abortion franchises nationwide, which do not provide full-service medical care for women," said Dr. Charmaine Yoest, the president and CEO of Americans United for Life. Recent undercover videos featuring shocking footage of Planned Parenthood employees discussing the dismemberment and harvest of fetal organs for money helped spur many Congressmen to support the legislation, which would impose a moratorium on funding the abortion provider.

"In light of the troubling Center for Medical Progress videos, the U.S. House made the right call in suspending that level of investment so that women and girls' healthcare needs will be met in a safe environment," Yoest said.

The second bill imposes tougher standards for abortionists that make no effort to save the lives of babies born alive during botched abortions.

"One of the most disturbing discussions in the undercover videos are cold, calculating conversations on the part of top Planned Parenthood officials who discuss the kind of money they can make from babies who die during an abortion, but because their bodies remained intact, their parts are worth more money," she continued. The head of Planned Parenthood clashed with congressional Republicans on Capitol Hill Tuesday over the group's taxpayer funding, while using her appearance to attack the group behind a series of disturbing videos showing her organization's workers discussing fetal tissue harvesting.

Cecile Richards, speaking before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, claimed the videos were "deceptively edited" and "heavily doctored."

Yet just minutes before the hearing started, a forensic analysis said the videos "are authentic and show no evidence of manipulation or editing." The analysis was conducted for the anti-abortion group Center for Medical Progress.

Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, also seemed to brush off the claims of doctoring as he excoriated Planned Parenthood for its allegedly "insatiable" desire for taxpayer dollars. He pointedly cited the millions the group has spent on travel and parties and "fairly exorbitant salaries" even while cutting back, he said, on certain health care services.

"Their desire for more of taxpayer dollars is just insatiable," Chaffetz said.

Chaffetz argued that Planned Parenthood "doesn't need a federal subsidy." Chaffetz, in emotional opening remarks, recalled his late mother's fight with breast cancer, and said much of Planned Parenthood's budget is not going "to women's health care."

Under questioning from Chaffetz, Richards acknowledged her annual compensation is $520,000. (Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., later criticized Chaffetz for the line of questioning, accusing him of "beating up on a woman ... for making a good salary.")

Richards, meanwhile, adamantly defended Planned Parenthood, saying she's "proud to be here" and stressing that their clinics largely provide birth control, cancer screenings and other health care services.

The videos showing conversations on fetal tissue harvesting, she said, were part of a "smear campaign" to "entrap" doctors into breaking the law.

"Once again, our opponents failed," she said.

She said less than 1 percent of their clinics facilitate donations for fetal tissue research, and they do so legally.

Richards won some support from Democrats on the committee. Top Democrat, Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, blasted CMP for having "misled and essentially conned Planned Parenthood employees."

But Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, called the scenes in the videos "barbaric and repulsive."

A question looming over the hearing was whether any of the footage was in fact altered. Democrats repeatedly suggested that important passages were missing.

But the Alliance Defending Freedom engaged cybersecurity and forensic analysis company Coalfire Systems to examine the 10 "full-footage videos" put out by CMP.

According to their review, the videos were not manipulated. The report said any missing footage was of "non-pertinent" events like meals and bathroom breaks.

"The Coalfire forensic analysis removes any doubt that the full length undercover videos released by Center for Medical Progress are authentic and have not been manipulated," ADF Senior Counsel Casey Mattox said in a statement.

"Analysts scrutinized every second of video recorded during the investigation and released by CMP to date and found only bathroom breaks and other non-pertinent footage had been removed. Planned Parenthood can no longer hide behind a smokescreen of false accusations and should now answer for what appear to be the very real crimes revealed by the CMP investigation."

The 10 videos released so far capture Planned Parenthood officials casually describing how they sometimes obtain tissue from aborted fetuses for researchers. In one video, a doctor for a Planned Parenthood tissue harvesting partner appears to admit a baby's "heart actually is still beating" at times following abortions and an ex-procurement tech gives a first-person account of watching a baby's heart beat before she dissects its brain.

Planned Parenthood foes say the videos show the group breaks federal laws barring for-profit fetal tissue sales and altering abortion procedures to obtain usable organs. Planned Parenthood and its defenders say it's done nothing illegal and says that CMP Project Lead David Daleiden dishonestly edited the videos to distort what was said.

In written testimony, Richards fired back at Daleiden, calling for him to be investigated after she says he "tried unsuccessfully to entrap Planned Parenthood physicians and staff for nearly three years." Daleiden obtained the videos after posing as an executive of a nonexistent firm that buys fetal tissue for scientists.

So far, the most damage inflicted on Planned Parenthood by the videos is the insensitive way some of its officials discuss the procedures. That has drawn apologies from Planned Parenthood and bitter criticism from Republicans.

Most Democrats have rallied behind the group, and President Obama has threatened to veto GOP legislation cutting its federal money. Public opinion polls show majorities oppose blocking Planned Parenthood's taxpayer dollars. Departing House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., fearing voter anger, have rebuffed conservatives who would shut down the government if Obama doesn't agree to halt Planned Parenthood's money.

The organization receives about a third of its $1.3 billion annual budget, around $450 million, from federal coffers, chiefly reimbursements for treating Medicaid's low-income patients.

Democrats have used a Senate filibuster to block GOP legislation halting Planned Parenthood's federal payments. So two House committees plan to approve filibuster-proof legislation shifting Planned Parenthood's Medicaid funds -- about $350 million -- to community health centers.

The bill would also keep a promise made during this spring's budget debate to repeal key elements of Obama's signature health care law. Panel votes are expected Tuesday and Wednesday.

In addition to the four congressional committee investigations of Planned Parenthood, Boehner has said he will also appoint a special committee to probe the group.

BREAKING: Planned Parenthood says it will stop taking money for aborted baby parts

Pressured by a series of undercover videos showing their highest officials in compromising situations, Planned Parenthood announced today that it will no longer accept money in exchange for transferring the body parts of aborted babies to medical researchers.

"In order to completely debunk the disingenuous argument that our opponents have been using — and to reveal the true political purpose of these attacks — our Federation has decided, going forward, that any Planned Parenthood health center that is involved in donating tissue after an abortion for medical research will follow the model already in place at one of our two affiliates currently facilitating donations for fetal tissue research," Planned Parenthood Federation of America President Cecile Richards wrote in a letter to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Planned Parenthood facilities in Washington state donate the organs and tissue of aborted babies to researchers without receiving reimbursement, PPFA says. From now on, any Planned Parenthood abortion facility that continues its "fetal tissue donation" program will follow its guidelines.

Richards wrote that pro-life advocates had targeted Planned Parenthood - "the nation’s leading women’s health care provider" - with "patently false claims" in order "to advance their extreme political agenda" of ending federal funding to the organization and "to deny women access to basic health care."

The abortion provider stands accused of altering its abortion technique to maximize the number of organs harvested, illegally performing the partial birth abortion procedure, and profiting from the trafficking in human body parts. The latter two charges are federal felonies carrying steep fines and several years in prison.

"Our role in fetal tissue research is an extremely small part of what we do," Richards wrote. "In fact, just 1% of our health centers currently facilitate tissue donation for fetal tissue research."

Richards insists that Planned Parenthood did nothing wrong, and its policy change is not "a suggestion that anyone else should not take reimbursement" for aborted babies' organs.

While Planned Parenthood officials have refused to say how much money the fetal tissue program generates, PPFA executive vice president Dawn Laguens told the Associated Press, "I don't think [the new policy] will have a huge impact on their budget."

Reimbursements for harvested fetal organs does not match the $528 million Planned Parenthood received in federal, state, and local taxpayer funds from July 2013 through June 2014. Taxpayer subsidies account for more than 40 percent of its overall revenue.

Pro-life advocates say they want more details about the new policy - and justice for any previous crimes.

The man behind the undercover video series, Center for Medical Progress lead investigator David Daleiden, dismissed the letter as a "stunt."

"Without releasing the text of the alleged new 'policy' and the exact model from the their Washington affiliate," Daleiden told LifeSiteNews, Planned Parenthood's action "tells us nothing. This only raises more serious questions about what Planned Parenthood leadership has been allowing its clinics to do with money and baby parts, and intensifies the need for Congress to pursue full auditing and oversight of Planned Parenthood’s unaccountable criminal enterprise of baby parts trafficking."

Operation Rescue President Troy Newman, who is also a CMP board member, told LifeSiteNews, "Planned Parenthood has been caught with their bloody hands in the cash register. They are now trying to back track their criminal conduct while making counter accusations at the investigators. This will not work."

"It is now abundantly clear that Planned Parenthood has been violating federal law that prohibits the profiting from fetal cadavers," Newman told LifeSiteNews. "Now more than ever, we must press for full scale prosecutions, and jail for all the abortionists involved."

In the wake of today's letter, at least one member of Congress promised those investigations will continue.

"There are still many questions yet to be answered surrounding Planned Parenthood's business practices and relationships with the procurement organizations," said Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-TN, who sits on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which is investigating Planned Parenthood. "This is exactly why the House is investigating abortion practices and how we can better protect life.”

"It is clear that Planned Parenthood knows it is wrong to profit from the sale of baby body parts, but their decision to stop selling organs doesn't change the fact that Planned Parenthood still profits from the death of children," said Senator James Lankford. "This organization still engages in the inhumane treatment of children, and our federal government forces taxpayers to give them their hard-earned money. Congress must continue all investigations into their grotesque practices and remain committed to defunding them."

Colorado shooting suspect said 'no more baby parts': reports

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Reuters) - The man accused of opening fire at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado and killing three people said "no more baby parts" while he was being arrested, NBC News and other media reported on Saturday, citing unidentified law enforcement sources.

The utterance from suspect Robert Lewis Dear, 57, would appear to reference the controversy surrounding the organization's health services, which include abortion, and its role in delivering fetal tissue to medical researchers.

It could hint at a possible motive for the rampage on Friday, though NBC reported that its sources said investigators still did not know what had motivated the gunman.

Authorities have not discussed a motive for the attack at the Colorado Springs clinic, which left a police officer and two civilians dead and nine people wounded. Federal law enforcement authorities referred questions to local police. Colorado Springs police could not be reached for comment.

"This unconscionable attack was not only a crime against the Colorado Springs community, but a crime against women receiving healthcare services at Planned Parenthood, law enforcement seeking to protect and serve, and other innocent people," Attorney General Loretta Lynch said in a statement.

The wounded included five police officers and four civilians, who were listed in good condition at area hospitals.

Garrett Swasey, 44, who was killed in the attack, was a campus police officer for the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs who joined city police in responding to reports of shots fired at the clinic. The father of two served as an elder at Hope Chapel, the church said on its website.

Dear was taken into custody at the Planned Parenthood clinic after an hours-long standoff with police and jailed ahead of a court appearance scheduled for Monday.

It was not clear if Dear, a South Carolina native who appeared to have moved to Colorado last year, had retained an attorney.

Vicki Cowart, chief executive of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, said in a statement that the media reports showed that witnesses confirmed that Dear was motivated by opposition to abortion.

"This is an appalling act of violence targeting access to health care and terrorizing skilled and dedicated health care professionals," she said.

The shooting was believed to be the first fatal attack at an abortion provider in the United States in six years. The Colorado Springs center has been repeatedly targeted for protests by anti-abortion activists.

Planned Parenthood came under heavy criticism this year after officials of the organization were secretly recorded by an anti-abortion group discussing how to obtain human tissue from aborted fetuses.

The videos have triggered protests over the national non-profit organization's role in such activities and have become an issue in the 2016 presidential election race as conservatives in Congress seek to cut off Planned Parenthood's federal funding. Planned Parenthood has strongly denied doing anything illegal or unethical.

In recent years, Planned Parenthood moved its Colorado Springs clinic to a facility on the city's northwest side that opponents of abortion have called a "fortress."

The Planned Parenthood Federation of America is based in New York and Washington.

At least eight workers at clinics providing abortions have been killed since 1977, according to the National Abortion Federation. The most recent was in 2009 when doctor George Tiller was shot to death at church in Wichita, Kansas.

It said that clinics operated by various groups reported nearly 7,000 incidents of trespassing, vandalism, arson, death threats, and other forms of violence since 1977.

NEWCOMER TO COLORADO

Except for his name and age, police have only said that Dear recently resided in rural Hartsel, Colorado, about 60 miles (96 km) west of Colorado Springs. Official records showed that he has a history of brushes with the law.

Dear lived in a trailer parked 50 yards (meters) off the highway, sharing it with a woman who may have been his wife though she rarely left the property, according to Zigmond Post Jr., who lives about a quarter of a mile (400 meters) away.

Post told Reuters that he first met Dear when a pair of dogs escaped from his property and Dear locked them in his yard. Dear was friendly when Post arrived to retrieve the dogs but took the opportunity to complain about President Barack Obama.

"We got the dogs back and everything and as we were getting ready to leave he handed us some anti-Obama pamphlets and told us to look over them," Post said.

Post said he did not interact with Dear again until Wednesday, when the two men exchanged pleasantries at the post office.

"We all live out here because for some reason or another we like our solitude," Post said. "He seemed like a guy who wouldn't speak unless spoken to."

Post said he believed the woman was still living in Dear's trailer on Saturday morning when police, SWAT teams and firefighters arrived to search it. He said he heard a gunshot from inside before they entered.

SOUTH CAROLINA NATIVE

Dear was born in South Carolina and lived in Walterboro during the 1990s and early 2000s. He was married in 1995 to Pam Dear and records showed that he had a son, Taylor Dear.

Court records did not show any criminal convictions for Dear in South Carolina, but law enforcement officers were called on several occasions after complaints about him.

According to the Colleton County Sheriff's Office, Dear's wife accused him of assaulting her at their home in 1997, but she declined to file charges against him.

In 2002 he was accused of shooting a neighbor's dog with a pellet gun, and that same year he was arrested after being accused of hiding in the bushes at a neighbor's house and leering at her. Court records showed he was charged with peeping to invade someone's privacy, but the charge was dismissed by a judge and a restraining order was issued against him.

The Colleton County Sheriff's Office also said that Dear had been arrested for animal cruelty in 2003. No court record was available online for that case.

Fetal Remains Found in Ohio Landfills Amid Planned Parenthood Investigation, Attorney General Says (UPDATED)

“Disposing of aborted fetuses from an abortion by sending them to a landfill is callous and completely inhumane,” Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine said in a press release Friday. “It is important the public be aware that these practices are taking place at these Ohio facilities.”

The investigation did not, however, report any sales of fetal tissue by the Planned Parenthood affiliates. It did. though, reveal the startling way in which three Planned Parenthood facilities in Bedford Heights, Cincinnati and Columbus had been allegedly disposing of fetal remains, which is a violation of a state ordinance that says the “fetus shall be disposed of in a humane manner.”

The report indicated that all three Planned Parenthood affiliates contracted with companies that allegedly disposed of the remains in landfills.

The facility in Bedford Heights said it used only one company, but when DeWine’s office contacted the disposal company, it said it does not accept fetal remains as part of its corporate policy.

DeWine has referred the investigation’s findings to the Ohio Department of Health for further review.

UPDATE 1:35 p.m. ET: The Ohio Attorney General’s Office is pushing back against Planned Parenthood’s refutation of their investigation.

“The vast majority of the documents showed they were going to landfills,” Dan Tierney, a spokesman for Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine’s office, told TheBlaze. “Planned Parenthood cooperated with the investigation, and that is what the findings revealed.”

Tierney said the investigation began after the release of the videos by the Center for Medical Progress and that DeWine “felt it necessary” to investigate the state’s Planned Parenthood facilities.

“Basically what the disagreement is whether disposing of fetuses is humane or not,” Tierney said. “The law requires that fetuses be disposed in a humane manner. Attorney General DeWine believes that putting a fetus in a landfill is not humane.”

UPDATE: Planned Parenthood is refuting the conclusions of the Ohio attorney general’s investigation.

Stephanie Kight, president and chief executive officer of Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio, said the report is “not true.

“Planned Parenthood contracts with vendors to handle fetal tissue in a respectful manner and in accordance with the law. It is irresponsible for the AG to say otherwise,” she added.

Ohio AG: Aborted Babies from Planned Parenthood ‘Steam-Cooked,’ Burned and Thrown Into Garbage Dump

Aborted babies from three Planned Parenthood locations in Ohio were either “steam-cooked” or incinerated, and then sent to landfills, the state attorney general announced on Friday.

“Disposing of aborted fetuses from an abortion by sending them to a landfill is callous and completely inhumane,” said Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine said in a statement. “It is important the public be aware that these practices are taking place at these Ohio facilities.”

DeWine’s office had been investigating whether Planned Parenthood facilities in the state were selling the body parts of aborted babies following the release of national undercover videos from the Center for Medical Progress.

While determining that aborted babies in Ohio weren’t being sold to research, DeWine’s Charitable Law Section rather found that the children were being picked up by medical waste companies and either steam treated or incinerated and then dumped into a landfill with household and commercial trash.

“I think it will come as a shock to Ohioans to find out that fetuses are being cooked and then they’re being put in a landfill and they’re going to be mixed in with yesterday’s garbage,” DeWine told reporters on Friday.

He said that the practice is illegal as it violates Chapter 3701-47-05 of the Ohio abortion law, which states that a “fetus shall be disposed of in a humane manner.”

Accu Medical Waste in Marietta had been serving the Cincinnati and Columbus Planned Parenthood locations, and had transported the containers of aborted babies to its steam plant where they were autoclaved and then trucked to a landfill in Kentucky.

The medical waste giant Stericycle, which serves the Bedford Heights Planned Parenthood, had been picking up aborted babies from the location and either having them steamed or incinerated, depending on how Planned Parenthood had marked the boxes. The fetal remains were then trucked to Republic Services Carbon Limestone Landfill in Lowellville after being treated.

Corporate representatives of Stericycle had claimed to DeWine’s office during the investigation that the company does not accept fetal remains for disposal. Stericycle currently operates an incineration plant in Warren, where “pathological waste” is burned. According to the Campaign to Stop Stericycle, the company had been fined in 2011 for illegally dumping aborted babies in a landfill in Austin, Texas, and had also been found to be disposing of the babies murdered at Kermit Gosnell’s Philadelphia “House of Horrors.”

While DeWine didn’t wish to outline which method of disposal would be acceptable, he did cite to reporters that burial or cremation were more humane methods. He said that his office plans to file for an injunction in court to require that Planned Parenthood cease disposing of aborted babies in autoclaves, incineration plants and landfills.

Planned Parenthood is defending its actions, as it asserts that the aborted babies are sent to “respectful facilities.”

“I think they’re being properly disposed of,” Stephanie Kight, president of Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio, told reporters. “That’s what my contract [with the removal companies] says. That’s what they’ve assured us of.”

She called DeWine’s investigation part of a “political agenda” to end abortion.

“Let’s be clear. This is about one thing: banning access to safe, legal abortion,” Kight said.

Accu Medical President Jim Parks says that the company has since stopped serving abortion facilities due to media attention over the matter. Stericycle is refusing to speak to reporters.

Republic Services President Don Slager could not be reached. Heath Eddlebute, the company’s vice president of operations, did not return a call for comment.

Ohio Planned Parenthood sues to 'protect abortion access'

Planned Parenthood filed a federal lawsuit Sunday to "protect abortion access" in Ohio following Attorney General Mike DeWine's report that facilities in Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland improperly disposed of fetal remains.

DeWine announced Friday that a four-month investigation of the three facilities found aborted fetuses from Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio in Mount Auburn and the Columbus clinic contracted with a company that heats the tissue to kill bacteria and disposes of the remains in a Kentucky landfill.

"Politicians in Ohio will stop at nothing to ban abortion in all cases in our state," said Stephanie Knight, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio. "Today, we’re asking a federal court to prevent the state from this plainly political attempt to restrict women’s access to safe and legal abortion."

The Ohio Department of Health and DeWine's office are working to file a court injunction "to restrict Planned Parenthood activities where violations of law have occurred," Rick Hodges, director of the Ohio Department of Health, previously said in a statement.

The federal lawsuit filed by Planned Parenthood claims DeWine's allegations are false and inflammatory, motivated by politics with the intent to ban abortion in Ohio. The organization uses licensed medical removal companies to dispose of the fetal tissue in accordance with Ohio law, officials state in a release.

Planned Parenthood health centers comply with all laws and regulations that require safe and respectful fetal tissue disposal and has never been cited by Ohio for violation, the organization said.

“The reality is that we handle medical tissue just like other health care providers do, and we always have," Knight said. "We’re inspected regularly to ensure that we’re handling fetal tissue properly and legally.”

It's not clear if the clinics broke any Ohio laws concerning the disposal of fetal remains. Ohio Administrative Code states "a fetus shall be disposed of in a humane manner," but does not further define humane disposal and no penalties or violations are listed.

“Planned Parenthood handles medical tissue just like other health care providers do," said Jerry Lawson, CEO of Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio. "We work with licensed medical removal companies to handle fetal tissue respectfully and safely. It's clear from the Attorney General's press conference that we've acted properly and legally, and this is just part of his longstanding political agenda to ban abortion in all cases. We won’t let that happen.”

Planned Parenthood Sues Anti-Abortion Group Behind Undercover Videos
The provider called the series of videos an "elaborate, illegal conspiracy in order to block women’s access to safe and legal abortion."

Planned Parenthood filed a federal lawsuit in San Francisco on Thursday against the anti-abortion activists that produced a series of heavily edited, secretly recorded videos of the family planning provider's staffers talking about fetal tissue donations.

The civil suit accuses the defendants -- the anti-abortion group Center for Medical Progress and a fake fetal tissue procurement company called "BioMax"-- of violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act and committing fraud, invasion of privacy, illegal secret recording and trespassing. The accused conspirators, David Daleiden, Troy Newman and four other activists, used fake government IDs to gain entry into private medical conferences, secretly taped conversations with Planned Parenthood staffers, and sliced up those interviews into a series of inflammatory videos that accuse the family planning provider of selling fetal tissue for profit.

Planned Parenthood said the videos, which have been viewed by millions of people since the first one came out in July, "created a poisonous environment" that has deeply threatened the security of its employees and providers. "Planned Parenthood staff has been demonized, the providers have been threatened with death, picketed at their homes, bombarded with hate mail, and forced to move or go into hiding," Beth Parker, chief legal counsel for Planned Parenthood's California affiliates, told reporters on Thursday.

Planned Parenthood says that it sometimes donates, but does not sell, fetal tissue for medical research. While the videos appear to show staffers negotiating the price of fetal tissue, the full, unedited footage shows the same staffers insisting that Planned Parenthood does not aim to profit from the donations, only to recover the costs of transporting and preserving the tissue after an abortion. Multiple investigations by state governments and congressional committees have turned up no evidence that Planned Parenthood violated the law.

Nevertheless, the videos have spurred a wave of violence and hatred against Planned Parenthood. The man accused of opening fire on a Colorado Planned Parenthood clinic in November alluded to the videos in an interview with law enforcement, and there were four arsons at Planned Parenthood affiliates in the months after the first video was released. Republican politicians have used the videos as fuel for their yearslong campaign to defund the family planning provider, although President Barack Obama has threatened to veto Congress' efforts.

Planned Parenthood is suing the defendants for compensatory and punitive damages as well as attorneys' fees. While a spokesperson for the organization says it has suffered in many ways from the undercover video campaign, she promised it will keep its doors open and continue to provide birth control, abortion services, cancer screenings and sexually transmitted infection treatments through all of its roughly 700 health centers across the country.

“CMP’s reckless and dangerous actions have created a poisonous environment that fuels political attacks on access to reproductive health care and feeds threats against our health centers,” said Kathy Kneer, CEO of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California. “We’re going on the offensive to expose this fraud for what it is and hold the people behind it accountable -- in order to prevent further harassment of our patients and staff and protect access to the preventive and reproductive health care Planned Parenthood provides to millions of people each year.”

The Center for Medical Progress released a statement Thursday calling the lawsuit "frivolous."

"Planned Parenthood is under investigation by the United States Congress and multiple law enforcement agencies, while their business is drying up and the public is turning against their barbaric abortion for baby parts trade," the statement said. "Now they are filing a frivolous lawsuit in retaliation for CMP’s First Amendment investigative journalism that has done nothing more than tell the truth about Planned Parenthood’s lawless operations."

Planned Parenthood said it's not, in fact, under investigation by any law enforcement agencies.

The documents ADF obtained through its state records request include forms and letters from the university and its researchers clearly indicating their arrangement with Planned Parenthood to obtain the baby parts, which were used in medical research that resulted in published studies on fetal hearts and fetal brains in 2014.

The revelation comes just days after the Wisconsin state Senate approved two bills that will help further de-fund the Planned Parenthood abortion business in the Badger State.

An attorney from ADF commented on the shocking new information in an email to LifeNews.com.

“Planned Parenthood has once again demonstrated its willingness to cover up its role in the gruesome baby parts trade,” said ADF Senior Counsel Matt Bowman. “Both Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and UW-Madison publicly denied they had any arrangement to supply baby parts from women undergoing abortion to researchers conducting gruesome experiments, but the documents we obtained prove they were not telling the truth.”

Bowman said the information the legal group obtained directly contradicts public statements Planned Parenthood made.

In a Jan. 14 news release, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin claimed, “Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin does not offer fetal tissue donation for patients…,” confirming what The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported in October of last year: “The group has said only a handful of its clinics, and none in Wisconsin, are involved in the donations.” Likewise, Marsha Mailick, vice chancellor for research and graduate education at UW-Madison, said in August of last year that Planned Parenthood is not among the organizations that supply aborted babies to the university.

According to one of the published studies, UW researchers obtained hearts and brains from babies aborted “between 10 and 18 weeks of gestational age” within five minutes of the procedure. “After the procedure, the heart was grasped with sterilized surgical instruments and carefully isolated from the rest of the thoracic content to be placed in RNAse-free plastic tubes. Fetal brain was also collected in the same fashion.” The documents ADF obtained prove the university obtained the hearts and brains from Planned Parenthood.

“Wisconsin legislators have as much reason to be concerned about the scandal-ridden nature of Planned Parenthood as lawmakers in other states and in Congress have,” said ADF Senior Counsel Casey Mattox. “Just as the state is right to end its funding relationship with an organization undeserving of taxpayer money and unworthy of anyone’s trust, it is likewise on firm legal ground to discontinue funding for research that both Planned Parenthood and the University of Wisconsin have felt the need to keep secret.”

As LifeNews previously reported, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker was horrified by the Planned Parenthood video and called for states to defund the abortion company. In an interview with Megyn Kelly on Fox News he said, “Years ago, when I first became governor of the state of Wisconsin, my first budget, I defunded Planned Parenthood. I took some attacks from some in the media, and some in the left. But this video’s just a prime example, this is not a noncontroversial entity.”

He concluded, “This is obviously a disturbing, disgusting act that they’re talking about. We’ve outlawed that in Wisconsin in the past. We need to be defunding Planned Parenthood, not only state by state, but I think, across the country. And instead, put resources into women’s health issues, but put them into non-controversial entities, public health entities, or other things in that regard.”

Congress has had multiple hearings investigating numerous abuses and potential violation of multiple laws to sell aborted baby parts.

In the first hearing on Planned Parenthood, James Bopp, the general counsel for the National Right to Life Committee, told the House Judiciary Committee that Planned Parenthood likely broke multiple federal laws in its sale of aborted babies and their body parts for research.

He said, “Recorded conversations, released by the Center for Medical Progress reveal many legal issues with Planned Parenthood’s procedures and practices regarding fetal tissue procurement.”

During a second hearing, Democrats on the panel complained that the videos showing the abuses at Planned Parenthood were “heavily edited.” But when Republicans on the committee attempted to show the videos, they objected and refused to watch them.

At a third hearing, Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards defended the sales of abortion babies. She contended that no baby has ever been born alive following a botched abortion, she essentially admitted that claims Planned Parenthood does mammograms are a lie, and she defended her exorbitantly high salary as the head of the nation’s biggest abortion business.

“These procedures and practices of Planned Parenthood, and their tissue procurement partners, show that federal laws when applicable, have been and are continuing to be violated during the procurement and sale of human fetal tissue,” Bopp explained.

In the fifth video: Melissa Farrell of Planned Parenthood-Gulf Coast in Houston boasted of Planned Parenthood’s skill in obtaining “intact fetal cadavers” and how her “research” department “contributes so much to the bottom line of our organization here, you know we’re one of the largest affiliates, our Research Department is the largest in the United States.”
In the sixth video: Holly O’Donnell described technicians taking fetal parts without patient consent: “There were times when they would just take what they wanted. And these mothers don’t know. And there’s no way they would know.”
In the seventh and perhaps most disturbing video: Holly O’Donnell described the harvesting, or “procurement,” of organs from a nearly intact late-term fetus aborted at Planned Parenthood Mar Monte’s Alameda clinic in San Jose, CA. “‘You want to see something kind of cool,’” O’Donnell says her supervisor asked her. “And she just taps the heart, and it starts beating. And I’m sitting here and I’m looking at this fetus, and its heart is beating, and I don’t know what to think.”

Planned Parenthood cleared, but 2 indicted over video

A grand jury convened to investigate whether a Houston Planned Parenthood clinic had sold the organs of aborted fetuses on Monday cleared the clinic and instead indicted the undercover videographers behind the allegations, surprising the officials who called for the probe and delighting supporters of the women's health organization.

The Harris County grand jury indicted David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt, both of California, on charges of tampering with a governmental record, a second-degree felony with a possible sentence of up to 20 years in prison. It also charged Daleiden, the leader of the videographers, with the same misdemeanor he had alleged – the purchase or sale of human organs, presumably because he had offered to buy in an attempt to provoke Planned Parenthood employees into saying they would sell.

Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson announced the indictments in a statement, noting the probe had lasted more than two months.

"As I stated at the outset of this investigation, we must go where the evidence leads us," said Anderson, a Republican. "All the evidence uncovered in the course of this investigation was presented to the grand jury. I respect their decision on this difficult case."

An arrest warrant was issued late Monday; documents detailing the charges were expected to be available Tuesday.

The videographers, who had posed as employees of a company that buys tissue and filmed interactions with Planned Parenthood executives, issued a statement saying they had not committed any crimes.

"The Center for Medical Progress uses the same undercover techniques that investigative journalists have used for decades in exercising our First Amendment rights to freedom of speech and of the press, and follows all applicable laws," the statement said, adding, "Planned Parenthood still cannot deny the admissions from their leadership about fetal organ sales captured on video for all the world to see."

Planned Parenthood has denied any such admissions or wrongdoing, calling the videos heavily edited and saying it has never profited from selling fetal tissue, only received reimbursements for the costs of preserving the tissue for research, which is legal. The group sued Daleiden last month.

Anderson's statement said the grand jury "cleared (Planned Parenthood) of breaking the law."

Still, the dozen videos released by the Center for Medical Progress of Planned Parenthood clinics around the country already have had a huge impact, including an effort in Congress to defund the organization.

In Texas, lawmakers are studying new laws on fetal tissue donation, and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission said it will drop Planned Parenthood from the Medicaid program.

More probes pursued

The Harris County investigation was one of several that began in the state after the center released footage of a Houston clinic executive casually discussing the methods and costs of preserving fetal tissue, which Republican state officials said was proof the organization was making a profit.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, a tea party firebrand from Houston, was the first to call for the Harris County District Attorney's Office to investigate. He also directed a state Senate committee to conduct its own probe.

On Monday, Patrick issued a statement saying the Senate probe would continue because "the horrific nature of these videos demand scrutiny and investigation."

Gov. Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton, who also ordered their own investigations, released statements saying they would continue.

"The fact remains that the videos exposed the horrific nature of abortion and the shameful disregard for human life of the abortion industry," Paxton said.

Planned Parenthood officials declared victory, however, saying they felt vindicated after being cleared by the lengthy non-partisan investigation.

"It's great news because it demonstrates what we have said from the very beginning, which is that Planned Parenthood is following every rule and regulation, and that these people came into our buildings under the guise of health when their true intentions were to spread lies," said Rochelle Tafolla, a spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, which runs the Houston clinic as well as facilities in Louisiana.

Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast previously has acknowledged donating fetal tissue in 2010, but has said it did not make any profit then and has not even donated since.

Across the country, two Planned Parenthood branches currently participate in tissue donation programs, according to the organization.

The National Abortion Federation was more direct in its celebration of the indictments.

"As we've known all along, David Daleiden is the one who broke the law, not abortion providers," said Vicki Saporta, the abortion-rights group's president and CEO.

Legislation sought

Daleiden, 26, has said he was a "child of a crisis pregnancy" and has been involved with anti-abortion work since he was 15. He was involved in undercover video work by a group called Live Action in 2007.

He spent years working on the effort on fetal tissue, which is not studied often today, but in the past has helped lead to several medical breakthroughs, including an early polio vaccine.

Planned Parenthood has said he secretly recorded staff and patients at least 65 times over the last eight years. The organization also has alleged that Daleiden used aliases, obtained fake government identifications and formed a fake tissue procurement company to gain access to private areas and record private conversations to be deceptively edited.

THE BACKLASH: Abbott wants harsher penalties in wake of Planned Parenthood videos

The second indictment suggests the grand jury found that he went too far in trying to provoke Planned Parenthood to admit to selling tissue. That charge, for intentionally buying or selling a human organ, is punishable by up to a year in jail while tampering with a governmental record could result a sentence of up to 20 years.

That would be a high price to pay, despite the success that Daleiden had in sparking investigations and legislative studies.

The indictments did not appear to have any chance of slowing those efforts.

In fact, one prominent anti-abortion activist suggested that they were more proof that laws needed to be changed.

"I think the grand jury decision today shows that we have very weak laws when it comes to this," said John Seago of Texas Right to Life. "The Legislature needs to address this."

Planned Parenthood Board Member Works in Office of D.A. Who Prosecuted Pro-Life Investigator

A member of the board of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast works in the office of the district attorney who pursued the prosecution of a pro-life investigator before a grand jury, while the abortion giant went free.

David Daleiden of the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) was indicted on Monday by a grand jury in Houston on a felony charge of “tampering with a governmental record” for creating a fake driver’s license in conducting his undercover investigation, as well as a misdemeanor count related to the purchasing of human tissue.

Daleiden, 27, had posed as a representative of a fetal tissue procurement company in order to engage in discussions with Planned Parenthood officials as a potential buyer of bodily organs. He recorded the interactions, conducted at various locations across the country, as part of his “human capital” investigative series that was released in July.

Sandra Merritt, 62, was also charged with tampering with a governmental record for likewise printing the license, which was used to obtain access to Planned Parenthood gathering in Houston.

While Daleiden and Merritt were charged for seeking to buy fetal tissue, Planned Parenthood was not charged for agreeing to obtain compensation for the body parts of aborted babies, nor outlining that it had been doing so with other scientific companies nationwide. Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards announced after several of the videos were released that the organization would cease accepting compensation for fetal organs following outrage over the matter.

“The Center for Medical Progress uses the same undercover techniques that investigative journalists have used for decades in exercising our First Amendment rights to freedom of speech and of the press, and follows all applicable laws,” Daleiden said in a statement.

“We respect the processes of the Harris County district attorney, and note that buying fetal tissue requires a seller as well,” he noted. “Planned Parenthood still cannot deny the admissions from their leadership about fetal organ sales captured on video for all the world to see.”

There have also been concerns following the discovery that a prosecutor in the Harris County district attorney’s Division of Criminal Family Law also serves as a director on the board of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast.

According to reports, Lauren Reeder told District Attorney Devon Anderson earlier this year about her work with the abortion giant in order to be “transparent.” However, she also said that she didn’t see a conflict of interest in the situation.

“I don’t think there’s any conflict in my dual roles in two separate organizations,” Reeder told reporters.

Anderson said that Reeder would not be involved with the case.

“She will not be involved in any manner in this investigation,” she told the Houston Chronicle. “If at any time in the future, reliable and credible information is brought to my attention that would question our ability to continue to perform a fair, thorough and independent investigation of this matter due to her board membership, I will revisit the issue of seeking the appointment of an independent prosecutor and act accordingly.”

Some still find the situation to be ironic.

“Daleiden is being charged with the very crime he was exposing? Seriously?” writes Tim Brown with Freedom Outpost. “He can play the part, just like police do when they engage in drug busts, but have only the intention of exposing the crime and yet, he is the one charged with what these devils are engaged in?”

“Why are the company executives shown in the videos not also being indicted for being willing to make the sale? If it’s wrong to make a purchase of baby parts, surely it is wrong to be selling them,” he said. “The double standard of the DA’s office is right out in the open for all to see! This is an injustice!”

New Video Exposes Planned Parenthood’s ‘Accounting Gimmicks’ in Hiding Sale of Baby Body Parts

A new video released by the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) reportedly captures the abortion giant Planned Parenthood explaining how it engages in “accounting gimmicks” to hide the compensation it receives for the bodily organs of aborted babies.

The video features Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast Director of Research Melissa Farrell outlining how the organization creatively receives reimbursement specifically for the babies themselves, above and beyond any administrative costs.

It also features invoices a Texas branch of Planned Parenthood sent to the University of Texas medical branch to show how the organization divides the costs into two categories, with the $25 “per specimen” fee being craftily labeled as “per consent.”

“We had two levels of invoicing for them,” Farrell explains in the footage, stating that the organization charged for obtaining consent from the mothers. “We had it worded as ‘per consent,’ because the consent process was the administrative part that we had to do. Then we had an overall ‘administrative fee’ for basically working it into the clinics themselves. And at the time, ‘per consent’ was 25 dollars.”

She then, however, acknowledges that “per consent” really means a charge per “specimen,” but that Planned Parenthood had to word the invoice a certain way due to ethical boundaries.

“[W]e technically can’t—ethically..,” she says, trying to find the words to explain. “Based on what I’m reading here, I think it’s paying for the specimen itself.”

David Daleiden, who poses undercover as a representative from a fetal procurement company, then remarks, “Right. On paper, it’s got to be massaged a little.”

Farrell agrees.

Later in the discussion, after Ferrell suggests that the organizations work “a la carte” to obtain whatever organs are desired, CMP investigator Sandra Merritt states, “I just don’t want to turn it into a situation where it’s not financially beneficial for you.”

“I’ll take you up on that,” Ferrell replies, laughing.

“Because that’s how we’re going to keep you happy; right? To make sure you’re financially growing your clinic, and however you need to say that (on paper), frame it on the other end,” Merritt says.

Ferrell agrees, nodding and saying yes numerous times.

The footage also shows remarks released in a previous video, where Ferrell explains that accounting for the baby parts is all “just a matter of line items.”

“If we alter our process and we are able to obtain intact fetal cadavers, then we can make it part of the budget that any dissections are this, and splitting the specimens into different shipments is this,” she says. “I mean, it’s all just a matter of line items.”

The documents obtained by CMP show that Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast charged the University of Texas over $3,700 for what it wrote on paper as a “consent payment” for 25 babies, but what Ferrell noted is “paying for the specimen itself.”

“The evidence that Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast charged exorbitant amounts of taxpayer money in exchange for fetal specimens that it provided at nearly zero cost is overwhelming,” Daleiden, who is expected to appear in court today over charges relating to his investigation, said in a statement on Wednesday. “Governor Abbott and Attorney General Paxton need to send a strong message that Houston’s children are not for sale, and they must immediately appoint a special prosecutor to hold Planned Parenthood accountable to the law.”

Daleiden’s attorneys with the Thomas More Society are working to have his charges dismissed.

“David used standard undercover journalism techniques to catch Planned Parenthood staff agreeing to alter abortion procedures to get more intact organs and tissue from aborted babies, presumably without telling their patients,” he said. “David also caught Planned Parenthood staff discussing how to adjust accounting line items to conceal profits from baby body part transactions. Planned Parenthood’s lawyers in Houston have now admitted they dreamed up and demanded the charges against David, apparently in order to distract prosecutors and the public from their own bad acts.”

Ohio House De-Funds Planned Parenthood After It Sells Aborted Baby Parts, Cuts $1 Million

After the Planned Parenthood abortion company was caught in multiple states selling aborted babies and their body parts, several states have taken steps to de-fund it. Ohio is the next up to the plate with new legislation to de-fund Planned Parenthood, which runs approximately one-third of the abortion centers in the Buckeye State.

Today, the Ohio state House voted 59-32 to cut Planned Parenthood funding — following a similar vote in the Ohio state Senate last month. Ohio is now the 9th state to take action against Planned Parenthood funding after the expose videos were first released last year.

Last month, legislation to de-fund Planned Parenthood (H.B. 294) was approved by the Ohio Senate on a 22-8 vote. Sponsored by Representatives Margaret Conditt (R-Liberty Township) and Bill Patmon (D-Cleveland), this legislation cuts over $1 million in yearly federal grants to Planned Parenthood, the country’s largest abortion company.

In November, the Ohio House passed the legislation, 62-30 and voted today to concur with minor changes the Senate made to the bill. House Bill 294 now heads to the desk of Governor John Kasich, who has signed 16 Ohio Right to Life initiatives over the last five years and is expected to sign it.

This legislation, which is at the top of Ohio Right to Life’s 2015-2016 legislative agenda, received renewed interest following the release of undercover videos showing Planned Parenthood officials negotiating dollar amounts for aborted babies’ body parts. In December, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine revealed that in Ohio, Planned Parenthood locations are contracting with companies that dump fetal remains in landfills.

“This legislation has been at the top of Ohio Right to Life’s legislative agenda for years,” said Stephanie Ranade Krider, executive director of Ohio Right to Life. “Thanks to the thoughtful, careful work of the Ohio House and Senate, the taxpayer dollars of pro-life Ohioans like myself will now be shielded from the abortion industry. This is an incredible victory for the pro-life cause in Ohio and for the national pro-life movement’s collective efforts to de-fund the abortion industry chief, Planned Parenthood.”

“Ohio’s pro-life leaders have shown the public how to respond to the heinous actions of the abortion industry,” said Krider. “With bipartisanship, with compassion, and with moral courage, the House and Senate have delivered to Governor Kasich a piece of legislation that will go down as historical. This legislation will mark the extraordinary moment when Ohio decided to get out of the abortion business.”

A strong majority of Ohio residents want Planned Parenthood to be de-funded and the money redirected to community health centers, according to a new poll.

Pollsters found 64 percent of Ohioans believe that Congress should end taxpayer funding to Planned Parenthood, which received more than $528 million in taxpayer funding in 2014.

Even more Ohioans (68 percent) say taxpayers should not subsidize a group liked Planned Parenthood, and the government should redirect funding to the thousands of health clinics across the country that provide comprehensive health care to women and their families.

Casey Mattox, senior counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom, testified that the legislation is both constitutional and consistent with applicable federal law. Julie Moore, director of operations for Pregnancy Decision Health Centers in Columbus, testified as a representative of Ohio‘s vast network of pregnancy help centers that assist women facing unplanned pregnancies. Dr. Kathleen Lutter testified as an OB-GYN physician who has practiced medicine for 31 years.

In the seventh and perhaps most disturbing video: Holly O’Donnell described the harvesting, or “procurement,” of organs from a nearly intact late-term fetus aborted at Planned Parenthood Mar Monte’s Alameda clinic in San Jose, CA. “‘You want to see something kind of cool,’” O’Donnell says her supervisor asked her. “And she just taps the heart, and it starts beating. And I’m sitting here and I’m looking at this fetus, and its heart is beating, and I don’t know what to think.”

House Panel Investigates Documents Promising ‘Financial Benefit’ to Abortion Clinics for Fetal Body Parts

The House Select Panel on Infant Lives held a hearing Wednesday regarding “The Pricing of Fetal Tissue” in an effort to determine if abortion clinics are profiting from the sale of aborted fetal body parts.

The panel released documents from one middleman tissue procurement business promising a financial benefit to clinics.

The panel was formed last year in response to undercover videos by the Center for Medical Progress that raised allegations that Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, trafficked in aborted fetal tissue. Planned Parenthood has denied wrongdoing.

“This does not sound to me like tissue donation for research,” Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), the panel’s chairman, said during the hearing. “This sounds like someone who wants to make money, a lot of money, selling baby body parts.”

Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D.-Ill.), ranking member on the panel, called the founder of the Center for Medical Progress “a proven liar” and claimed that his videos “are not accurate or reliable.”

Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) testified during the hearing.

“This panel was formed with political motivations,” Shaheen argued, adding that she believes it should be disbanded because it constitutes an “inappropriate misuse of federal resources.”

But Sasse argued that the panel is doing valuable work because no life is “disposable.”

“Our humanity should be repulsed,” he said. “Here, on this, we can and should agree: Babies are not the sum of their body parts. They’re meant to be welcomed and nurtured.”

House Panel Proves David Daleiden Was Right

At its much-anticipated hearing Wednesday morning, the Select Panel on Infant Lives released a series of exhibits that prove beyond a doubt that Planned Parenthood has been lying to the American people about whether or not it illegally profits from trafficking aborted baby tissue and organs.

Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue, also served as a founding board member for the Center for Medical Progress, which produced videos exposing the illegal trade. And following the Select Panel's document release, he's speaking out.

"It is clear from the documentation released by the Select Panel that money paid to Planned Parenthood in exchange for aborted baby remains qualified as illegal 'valuable consideration.' This completely validates every allegation that was put forth by investigators from the Center for Medical Progress," he said. "Planned Parenthood has engaged in an aggressive public relations campaign to convince the public that videos released by the Center for Medical Progress were 'hoaxed' and that Planned Parenthood never profited from the sale of fetal remains. Now we all can see for ourselves that this was a bold-faced lie. Planned Parenthood should be prosecuted for their crimes. They must not be held above the law."

The Select Panel exhibits were accompanied by a white paper on the pricing of fetal tissue produced by congressional staff members. The white paper explains how all of the costs of tissue procurement were absorbed by the organ procurement companies, such as Stem Express, and that Planned Parenthood essentially incurred no costs.

The documentation also shows that Planned Parenthood clinics were awarded $10,000 contract signing bonuses by one procurement company that were disguised as donations. Those bonuses were in addition to money paid for POCs—"products of conception," the term Planned Parenthood uses to dehumanize the aborted baby tissue—and blood samples.

For example, four Planned Parenthood clinics in California were paid more than $11,000 in August 2012 for 171 "POCs" and 196 blood samples harvested at their facilities. A review of a tissue procurement company's website shows a list of organs that were available for sale, including brains, hearts, livers, glands and even scalps.

The Center for Medical Progress, Operation Rescue and the Select Panel all agree these organs had to be procured from abortion facilities like Planned Parenthood.

"Now you do not have to be a lawyer to see what's going on here," Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Chairman of the Select Panel, said. "You put up a website that offers any baby body part imaginable—and why on earth do they need a baby scalp? Then you pick the gestation period and then check out."

Newman said the answer to Blackburn's question is "grisly."

"Tissue wasn't just being used for 'medical' research but by commercial entities for the use in the development of products for sale to the public," he said. "The male hair growth industry is a very lucrative one."

New Evidence: Baby Body Parts are Big Business

The House Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives released new evidence April 19 of procurement businesses selling aborted baby body parts for profit.

Amid growing optimism surrounding fetal tissue research in 1993, Congress lifted the ban on obtaining samples from abortion centers. The move was a bipartisan effort and included many safeguards designed to ensure the sale of baby body parts never became a money-making business.

According to evidence obtained from tissue procurement companies, those safeguards failed.

The House panel released the new documents ahead of its second congressional hearing. The papers show middleman businesses, separate from abortion centers and research facilities, profit between 300 and 400 percent from each sample of fetal tissue sold.

Last summer, undercover videos collected by David Daleiden and the Center for Medical Progress showed abortion facilities might be part of a fetal tissue procurement network designed to profit from the sale of baby body parts.

Congress established the House panel in October to investigate questions raised by the videos, including federal funding and support for abortion providers, such as Planned Parenthood, and the ethics and policies surrounding fetal tissue procurement.

The National Institutes of Health Revitalization Act of 1993 reversed the ban on fetal tissue transplantation research procurement. At that time, two competing amendments in the House offered safeguards on the operation—one filed by former Rep. Thomas Bliley Jr., R-Va., and one by former Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif. Waxman’s version eventfully won out, creating the guidelines for how fetal tissue procurement should work.

“It would be abhorrent to allow for a sale of fetal tissue and a market to be created for that sale,” Waxman said during floor debates.

To ensure abortion centers would not suffer from the added cost of providing tissue samples to researchers, the statute allowed for reimbursements equal to related expenditures.

Congress crafted a non-profit model that allowed researchers to pay abortion centers and abortionists equal to the amount of transportation, storage, or other costs related to the process. Waxman even included a 10-year felony charge in the statute for anyone who violated the system.

After investigating one of the procurement businesses that can only operate legally as a non-profit middleman, the panel found its annual revenue grew from $9,000 in 2010 to more than $6 million in 2014. The panel did not make the company’s name public.

The business operates by taking orders from researchers and partnering with abortion centers to keep its supply in stock. In 2010, the procurement business had three partner abortion centers, and before the undercover videos came out, it was on track to have about 300 by 2016.

The panel will argue today that a business cannot grow at that torrid pace without making a profit.

But many continue to question the validity of those concerns.

Last week during a town hall hosted by MSNBC, Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd told Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz the scandal surrounding Planned Parenthood and procurement businesses was “made up.”

“Let me tell you what there is no controversy about, it is a federal crime—a felony with a 10-year prison term—to sell the body parts of unborn children for profit,” Cruz retorted. “Listen, even if you’re pro-choice, selling the body parts of unborn children as a commercial endeavor is a horrifying thing.”

During the panel’s first hearing, Rep. Diane Black, R-Tenn., called one fetal tissue procurement business “the Amazon.com for human parts.”

The panel saved several screen grabs from recently shuttered websites that allowed customers to add baby organs such as brains, hearts, lungs, and livers to virtual shopping carts. Customers could select how many samples of each they wanted and from what gestational periods. Prices were highest for babies at 14-19 weeks gestation.

At least one company hired procurement technicians for $10 an hour—plus $30 for each sale—to do the leg work of rounding up parts at abortion centers.

Technicians would visit partnered abortion centers at the beginning of the week and match orders from customers to the list of women scheduled for abortions. The technicians asked women to sign a consent form, collected the baby’s remains after the abortion, and packaged and shipped the order to customers.

“The procurement techs are promised bonuses for particular baby parts, with stomachs, bladders, and lungs resulting in a higher per-item bonus than ears, kidneys, or tongues,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, who viewed the panel’s research. “This barbarism degrades our nation and violates federal laws against such profiteering. We commend the select panel for its investigative work thus far and call on the Department of Justice to take immediate action.”

One procurement business invoice showed direct costs associated with gathering tissue from a baby’s brain at about $300. The costs included paying the procurement technicians an hourly wage, plus $30 for securing the sample, paying the abortion center $50 for access to the sample, and transportation costs.

The company sold brain samples to customers for more than $3,000 each.

California Lawmaker Introduces Bill to Criminalize Undercover Filming at Abortion Facilities

Following controversy over undercover videos filmed by the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) into the practices of Planned Parenthood, a lawmaker in California has introduced a bill that would make secretly recording inside abortion facilities punishable by up to a year behind bars.

“It is the intent of the legislature to enact legislation to prohibit any person from intentionally video recording a confidential communication, or disclosing or distributing that video-recording communication, without obtaining the consent of all parties to the communication,” A.B. 1671, introduced by Assemblyman Jimmy Gomez ,reads.

It criminalizes any person who “intentionally discloses or attempts to disclose, or distributes or attempts to distribute, distributes, in any manner, in any forum, including, but not limited to, Internet Web sites and social media, or for any purpose, the contents of the a confidential communication with a health care provider.”

Violations may result in up to a year behind bars and/or a $2,500 fine. Repeat offenders may face up to a $10,000 fine.

Publishing and broadcasting groups had expressed opposition to the bill until it was amended to include language applying specifically to health care providers.

Planned Parenthood has now expressed its support of the measure, calling it “a key improvement that closes a current loophole in privacy laws around illegal videotaping.” It has also issued a letter urging lawmakers to “support AB 1671 (Gomez) to prohibit the distribution of illegally obtained video tapes and protect privacy.”

But pro-life groups have expressed concern over the proposed legislation, stating that it not only violates the First Amendment but also would prohibit evidence of criminal activity from being obtained and turned over to authorities.

“For years, undercover journalists have documented Planned Parenthood employees covering up for sex traffickers, failing to report child sexual abusers, and trafficking in baby body parts,” Lila Rose of Live Action said in a statement. “Rather than be more transparent with the public, Planned Parenthood wants to make it a crime for the media to publish evidence that it might be doing something illegal.”

She remarked that because Planned Parenthood is publicly funded, Americans need to know about the activities at the organization.

“This bill puts Planned Parenthood’s interests ahead of the First Amendment, its clients, and the public, and it would keep evidence of illegal or abusive activity hidden from nearly everyone’s view,” Rose stated.

As previously reported, CMP’s David Daleiden released a series of undercover videos last year after he had posed as a representative of a fetal tissue procurement company in order to engage in discussions with Planned Parenthood officials as a potential buyer of bodily organs. He recorded the interactions, conducted at various locations across the country, as part of his “human capital” investigative series.

The first of nearly a dozen videos was released by CMP featured Planned Parenthood Medical Director Deborah Nucatola, who nonchalantly munched on salad and sipped wine as she talked about adjusting the child so as not to crush certain organs due to the demand for the body part.

“I’d say a lot of people want liver. And for that reason, most providers will do this case under ultrasound guidance, so they’ll know where they’re putting their forceps,” she explains.

“[Y]ou’re just kind of cognizant where you put your graspers,” Nucatola outlines. “You try to intentionally go above and below the thorax, so that—-you know. We’ve been very good at getting the heart, lung, liver, because we know that, so ‘I’m not gonna crush that part. I’m gonna basically crush below, I’m gonna crush above, and I’m gonna see if I can get it all intact.’”

The second video showed Mary Gatter, the president of Planned Parenthood’s Medical Directors Council, haggling with the undercover investigators about the compensation for the fetal organs, laughing, “I want a Lamborghini.” Other footage showed an actual aborted baby being dissected in a dish, with an assistant declaring, “Another boy!” and another video showed an abortionist laughing about how harvesting an intact baby head would be “something to strive for.”

Planned Parenthood apologized for the insensitive “tone” of the first video, but denied that it profits from its agreements with scientific organizations. It soon announced that it would stop receiving reimbursement for “expenses” surrounding the provision of body parts of aborted babies. The abortion giant argued that the dead babies were beneficial in research to find cures for diseases.

D.A. Refusing to Prosecute Planned Parenthood Selling Baby Parts Was Defeated, Replacement Fires Her Staff

You may remember Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson, the faux “pro-life” Republican who refused to prosecute accused neck-twisting Houston abortionist Doug Karpen. She also later flipped a grand jury that was supposed to investigate Planned Parenthood, but instead indicted pro-life journalists David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt.

Daleiden and Merritt’s charges were later dismissed after it was revealed that Anderson had violated the law to indict them.

Illustrating that old adage, “what goes around comes around,” Anderson was soundly defeated in November.

But it gets better.

The new District Attorney-Elect Kim Ogg has decided to “drain the swamp” of corruption, which plagued the office during Anderson’s tenure.

Ogg has notified 40 prosecutors that their services are no longer needed. :D ;D :D

Among them is Assistant District Attorney Sunni Mitchell.

Anderson had selected Mitchell to oversee the 2013 Karpen grand jury and the 2015 Planned Parenthood/Daleiden grand jury. Mitchell has been blamed for leaking information from the “secret” grand jury process to Planned Parenthood then working with them to indict Daleiden and Merritt. Her manipulation of both grand juries protected Karpen and Planned Parenthood from criminal prosecution.

Karpen was accused in a formal complaint filed by Operation Rescue of murdering babies born alive during shoddy abortion procedures, while two years later, Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast was caught on film by Daleiden and Merritt haggling for the best price in exchange for aborted baby parts.

The Anderson/Mitchell 2015 grand jury never even took a vote on Planned Parenthood’s charges, citing a lack of evidence, but Mitchell was caught colluding with Planned Parenthood during the entire “investigation.”

Despite efforts to expose the tainted process, it seemed like Planned Parenthood was off the hook for good.

However, more good news came last week when the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee announced it had referred Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast to the Department of Justice for criminal prosecution.

Apparently, the Judiciary Committee miraculously found the evidence Anderson said didn’t exist.

For three years, Operation Rescue posted numerous articles and even attended a large press conference in Houston last year in an effort to expose the corruption in Anderson’s office that was thwarting justice.

That makes recent developments particularly satisfying for us.

“Part of what happens when we work to end the injustice of abortion is that corruption, which protects abortion abusers, is exposed,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “This serves to benefit everyone in society, even those who have little interest in abortion.”

Now that Anderson and Mitchell have been sent packing, Operation Rescue has plans for the New Year. We are preparing to formally request a reopening of the murder investigation against Karpen once the new District Attorney takes office in January.

Maybe with the swamp finally drained, justice can finally be found.

Ryan Pledges to Defund Planned Parenthood
Nation's largest provider of abortions received $550 million in 2015

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R., Wis.) indicated Thursday that congressional Republicans might push to defund Planned Parenthood using the budget reconciliation process.

Ryan was asked at his weekly press briefing whether the effort to repeal and replace Obamacare would include a provision to redirect hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars from Planned Parenthood to women’s health care centers that do not provide abortion.

“Planned Parenthood legislation would be in our reconciliation bill,” Ryan said.

The reconciliation process allows a simple majority of senators, rather than 60 senators, to pass certain forms of budgetary legislation without the threat of a filibuster. Republicans, who control the Senate 52-48, plan to use reconciliation to repeal major aspects of Obamacare, just as Democrats used reconciliation to amend the law in 2010.

Congressional Republicans passed a bill in 2015 that would have defunded Planned Parenthood in the summer of 2015 after undercover videos were released about the group’s organ harvesting operations. Senate Democrats blocked the bill in August, preventing it from coming to a vote. Reconciliation would help Ryan and Republicans avoid stalling tactics after President-elect Donald Trump takes office on Jan. 20.

Planned Parenthood received more than $550 million from taxpayers in the 2015 fiscal year, a 5 percent increase from 2014. The government payments accounted for 40 percent of its revenue, according to its 2015 annual report. The group received a huge boost in funding when President Obama took office in 2009 and repealed the Mexico City Policy, which bans the use of taxpayer dollars for abortion in foreign aid.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), which was overseen by then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, gave Planned Parenthood $100 million between 2010 and 2012. The group continued to rake in taxpayer cash throughout 2015 and 2016, winning nearly $28 million in awards from federal agencies.

Pro-life groups hailed Ryan’s decision. Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, said that redirecting money given to Planned Parenthood would be a better use of taxpayer dollars, highlighting the fact Planned Parenthood facilities do not have mammogram machines despite receiving money for cancer screening and other health care services. Many community health centers have access to such machines.

“Today’s commitment by Speaker Ryan to re-direct the abortion giant’s taxpayer funding to community health centers is a victory for women’s health care. Community health centers provide far more services than Planned Parenthood and outnumber them 20 to 1 nationwide,” she said in a release. “We commend Speaker Paul Ryan on his continued resolve to fund women’s health care, not abortion.”

Ryan’s announcement came as new polls were released showing that a majority of voters in 2018 battleground states oppose taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood. SBA List polled 1,650 voters in Montana, Florida, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, and Wisconsin—all seats Democrats are defending in 2018 elections.

Nearly 60 percent of respondents said they oppose taxpayer funding to Planned Parenthood, with 47 percent saying they strongly oppose funding the group. Forty percent supported taxpayer funding, while only 28 percent said they strongly supported it. The poll found that a senator’s position on the issue could affect their support from voters: 60 percent said they would be less likely to vote for someone who supports funding Planned Parenthood, while 27 percent said they would be more likely to support such a politician.

“Voters agree: taxpayer dollars would be better spent on community and rural health centers that provide comprehensive, whole-woman care, not abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood,” Dannenfelser said in a statement.

Planned Parenthood Action Fund President Cecile Richards said the group will fight to keep its taxpayer funding.

“Defunding Planned Parenthood is dangerous to people’s health, it’s unpopular, and it would leave people across the country without care,” she said. “The millions of supporters across the country are ready to defend care with everything we’ve got.”

Planned Parenthood Employees Admit Name ‘Deceiving’ Since They Specialize in Abortion

There’s been another undercover sting on Planned Parenthood, this time by the pro-life group Live Action which wanted to find out if a woman could get prenatal care at any one of PP's clinics. PP President Cecile Richards and others often claim that prenatal care is one of the essential services their organization provides to women. But after watching the above video, that doesn’t appear correct at all.

Live Action contacted all 41 Planned Parenthood affiliates where undercover recording is permitted by state law, and only 5 facilities out of 97 said they provided prenatal care.

“Planned Parenthood offers abortions, so they don’t offer prenatal care,” one PP employee in Tempe, Arizona said.

But this is how PP CEO Lori Lamerand sold it at a rally in 2011:

“Prenatal care: that is what we want to focus on. That is what is so vital.”

On countless occasions, Richards has said similar things: “Prenatal care: these are the kinds of services that folks depend on Planned Parenthood for.”

As Live Action notes, “prenatal care” is “health care that a pregnant woman receives for herself and her child as she prepares for birth.”

But time and again, that service was not an option when the Live Action actor phoned clinics.

“We’re not a prenatal care provider,” said a Fort Collins, Colorado worker.

“No Planned Parenthood does prenatal care, hon,” said an employee in Albany, New York.

A clinic operator in Farmington, New Mexico told the woman over the phone, “We don’t offer prenatal care at Planned Parenthood… We specialize in abortions. You know, that’s what our ultrasounds are for, to see how far along the, um, patient is.”

One incredibly honest employee in Merrillville, Indiana slipped from the script and said:

“No, we don’t do prenatal services. I mean, it’s called Planned Parenthood — I know it’s kind of deceiving.”

Another caught on video in Boise, Idaho said the same thing:

“We do not [have OB/GYNs here.] [laughs] Which is a deceptive name, right?”

While the woman was on hold at a Virginia Beach, Virginia clinic, the pre-recorded message promised PP would “take care of all your reproductive health needs” including “prenatal care.” But once a live operator got on the phone, the caller was told they don’t offer that service “at the moment.”

Several times, PP employees suggested going to other (actual) medical centers for prenatal services. Most of the time, the woman seeking care for herself and her child was given only one option at Planned Parenthood: abortion.

Let’s see how quick Richards or Nancy Pelosi says this video was deceptively edited. Let’s just say they know a lot about deception.

Bush Judge Rules Texas ‘Without Cause’ to Cut Planned Parenthood From Medicaid Program

Seems that all Judges appointed by a Bush seem to act this way ???

A federal judge appointed to the bench by then-President George H.W. Bush has issued a final ruling declaring that the state of Texas may not cut the abortion and contraception giant Planned Parenthood from the state’s Medicaid program.

U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks, who also ruled last month that the state could not require abortion facilities to bury or cremate babies instead of throwing them out with medical waste trash or grinding their bodies into the sewer system, belittled Texas’ reasoning for defunding Planned Parenthood as being more like from the pages of a fictional novel.

“A secretly recorded video, fake names, a grand jury indictment, congressional investigations—these are the building blocks of a best-selling novel rather than a case concerning the interplay of federal and state authority through the Medicaid program,” Sparks wrote. “Yet, rather than a villain plotting to take over the world, the subject of this case is the State of Texas’s efforts to expel a group of health care providers from a social health care program for families and individuals with limited resources.”

As previously reported, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) sent a letter to Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast in October 2015, providing the entity with a notice of termination.

“[T]here is reliable information indicating a pattern of illegal billing practices by Planned Parenthood affiliates, including you, across the state,” the letter read. “Our prima facie case of fraud is supported by related cases involving fraudulent practices identified by whistleblowers from inside the Texas Planned Parenthood network.”

It pointed to two federal lawsuits that had been settled for millions after whistleblowers came forward about false Medicaid claims that had been filed.

Without specifically mentioning the Center for Medical Progress, the Commission also referenced undercover video footage showing representatives from a Texas Planned Parenthood facility discussing its willingness to alter abortion procedures to remove deceased children whole.

“The videos indicate that you follow a policy of agreeing to procure fetal tissue even if it means altering the timing or method of an abortion. These practices violate accepted medical standards, as reflected in federal law, and are Medicaid program violations that justify termination,” it said.

As previously reported, a video released in August 2015 by the Center for Medical Progress captured Melissa Farrell, director of research for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, discussing with undercover investigators the “diversification of the revenue stream” over dinner, along with a visit to the organization’s pathology lab, where workers sorted through the remains of aborted babies.

“If we alter our process and we are able to obtain intact fetal cadavers, then we can make it part of the budget, that any dissections are this, and splitting the specimens into different shipments is this,” she explained. “I mean, it’s all just a matter of line items.”

Planned Parenthood sued the HHSC in November 2015 in an effort to retain its participation in the Medicaid program, asserting that the termination was illegal, but the Commission did not yet cancel the contract as originally planned.

In December 2016, the state moved forward, issuing a final notice on Dec. 20 that Planned Parenthood would be defunded in 30 days, resulting in the organization again filing for an injunction.

Last month, Judge Sparks issued a temporary injunction against Texas’ intentions. Planned Parenthood had asserted in its request to enjoin the state that some women would lack “few or no adequate alternative providers” if the Medicaid funding is cut. There are 34 Planned Parenthood locations in the state.

Jami Snyder, associate commissioner for Medicaid, told the court during the hearing that the state has plenty of health care providers that women can utilize other than Planned Parenthood.

On Tuesday, Sparks issued a permanent injunction against HHSC, opining that Texas was without justification to cut the abortion giant from the state’s Medicaid program.

“After reviewing the evidence currently in the record, the Court finds the Inspector General, and thus [the Texas Health and Human Services Commission], likely acted to disenroll qualified health care providers from Medicaid without cause,” he wrote. “Such action would deprive Medicaid patients of their statutory right to obtain health care from their chosen qualified provider.”

Planned Parenthood cheered the ruling, with Planned Parenthood Greater Texas CEO Ken Lambrecht remarking in a press release, “We went to court to protect our patients and to state clearly and simply that Texans, not politicians, should decide where to receive their health care.”

But Attorney General Ken Paxton vowed to appeal, expressing dismay that “willingness to violate state and federal law on manipulating abortion procedures and profiting from the sale of fetal tissue, making false statements to law enforcement, and misleading multiple courts were insufficient grounds for Texas to exclude Planned Parenthood from participating in the state’s Medicaid program.”

“Today’s decision is disappointing and flies in the face of basic human decency,” Paxton said. “The raw, unedited footage from undercover videos exposed a brazen willingness by Planned Parenthood officials to traffic in fetal body parts, as well as manipulate the timing and method of an abortion.”

“Even the remains of the most vicious criminals are treated with respect. But the children who never had a chance at life become so-called medical waste or, alternatively, a commodity to be bartered for,” he continued. “No taxpayer in Texas should have to subsidize this repugnant and illegal conduct. We should never lose sight of the fact that, as long as abortion is legal in the United States, the potential for these types of horrors will continue.”

The organization had heretofore received $3.1 million in Medicaid reimbursement annually.

Judge Declines to Dismiss Charges Against Pro-Life Investigators Who Recorded Undercover Planned Parenthood Videos

A superior court judge in California has declined to dismiss charges against two pro-life investigators who recorded their undercover conversations with Planned Parenthood representatives and released them to the general public to expose the company’s abortion practices.

As previously reported, in June, San Francisco County Superior Court Judge Christopher Hite initially agreed to dismiss the 14 felony counts of recording confidential conversations against David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt, stating that they lacked specificity. However, he also gave California Attorney General Xavier Becerra permission to amend his complaint, and to enumerate exactly which videos are at issue.

On June 30, Becerra refiled the charges, and Daleiden and Merritt requested that they be dismissed. On Thursday, Hite denied the motion. However, he will allow the pro-lifers to present affirmative defenses during an upcoming probable cause hearing. The two are also facing one count of conspiracy to invade privacy.

Daleiden entered a not guilty plea following the decision, while Merritt postponed a plea at this time. Her arraignment is scheduled for October.

“An absolute defense to that law is that you can record anything you want in a public place, and all of these recordings were made in extremely public places: the St Francis Hotel, restaurants, hallways, meetings rooms of the hotel,” Daleiden’s defense attorney, former Los Angeles District Attorney Brent Ferreira, said at a press conference following the hearing. “There’s no case here.”

“Our former attorney general, now Senator Kamala Harris, and current Attorney General Xavier Becerra have and are advancing an ill-motivated, improperly-motivated, politically-motivated criminal prosecution against someone who was doing nothing but expose crime as he is entitled to do in this country as long as the First Amendment prevails,” also said co-defense attorney Steve Cooley.

“We will prevail. It will take time,” Ferreira declared. “We have an innocent client and we will prevail.”

As previously reported, State Attorney General Becerra filed the charges against Daleiden and Merritt in March in asserting that they had wrongfully recorded the Planned Parenthood representatives without their consent.

“The right to privacy is a cornerstone of California’s Constitution, and a right that is foundational in a free democratic society,” Becerra said, according to the LA Times. “[We] will not tolerate the criminal recording of confidential conversations.”

But the Center for Medical Progress believes that the charges are politically motivated and violative of the pro-lifers’ First Amendment rights—that is, their freedom to conduct investigative journalism.

“What Sandra and I both did is no different from what local news sources and local news outlets do every single day here in the state of California when they go undercover and publish undercover hidden camera news stories,” Daleiden said during Thursday’s press conference.

“The only difference is that we went after and we recorded and we exposed the sacred cows of the California political establishment: Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion Federation and their allies and proxies in the abortion industry—the political backers of the organs of power in the state of California,” he stated.

He said that he finds it interesting that his court hearings are often attended by members of Planned Parenthood.

“Ultimately, this isn’t about me, this isn’t about Sandra, this isn’t about the undercover investigators. This is about the videos, … half of which still have never seen the light of day, and yet the attorney general purports to use them to prosecute me and Sandra even though the public can’t see the evidence and can’t see the videos,” he said.

“But Planned Parenthood knows they are one vote away in the U.S. Senate from losing half a billion a year in taxpayer subsidies a year and from seeing their abortion empire crumble. … They are one awful sting video away from that vote happening.”

As previously reported, Planned Parenthood had claimed following the release of Daleiden’s videos, which were first posted online in 2015, that the footage had been deceptively edited, but Daleiden had also publicly released the hours-long recordings in their entirety in addition to his concise video highlights. Planned Parenthood Partner: Some Aborted Babies Are Intact Before Dissected, Some Hearts Are ‘Beating Independently’

In a new video released by the same organization that conducted an undercover investigation into Planned Parenthood’s sale of aborted baby parts, the procurement manager for Advanced Bioscience Resources (ABR), which services Planned Parenthood locations in southern California, acknowledged under oath that about every couple of months, an aborted baby “falls out” of his or her mother intact and she is presented with a whole child to dissect. Sometimes, she said, she can see hearts “beating independently” from babies who are not extracted intact.

The Center for Medical Progress (CMP), led by David Daleiden, released the footage on Tuesday after a court unsealed recorded testimony and documents that came out of a lawsuit that Planned Parenthood had filed against the pro-life activist.

The video shows ABR’s Perrin Larton being questioned by an attorney under a deposition, being shown footage from the undercover investigation conducted by Daleiden in which she had stated that sometimes the baby just “falls out” during an abortion, especially if the mother has had a number of children already.

The attorney asked Larton how that child then comes to her, as she would perform the procurement of the infant’s bodily “tissues” needed for resale to researchers.

“Is the entire fetus intact in the lab when the procurement technician enters the lab?” he inquired.

“Yes,” Larton responded.

“How does a tissue procurement occur in one of these situations when the entire fetus in intact in the lab?” he asked.

“We do a dissection,” Larton answered.

The attorney then asked if the dissection is to obtain the “tissues” that are on the list of those requested by researchers. Larton responded in the affirmative.

When asked if the babies don’t have a heartbeat when the procurement is conducted, she advised, “It would depend.”

“I can see hearts that are not in an intact POC (product of conception, i.e. baby) that are beating independently,” Larton outlined.

The Center for Medical Progress is concerned that Planned Parenthood and its partners might be engaging in organ harvesting of babies born alive, in violation of federal law, 18 U.S. Code 1958.

As previously reported, CMP also released a video at the end of May showing Planned Parenthood Mar Monte Chief Medical Director Dorothy Furgerson seemingly testifying under oath that the payments her organization received from partner Stem Express were directly for the baby body parts, based on their usability.

When asked whether Planned Parenthood would still be paid if a “sample” was found to be unusable, Furgerson simply answered “no.” Asked again whether Planned Parenthood Mar Monte would only be compensated if the sample was usable, she replied “yes.”

CMP noted that the admission is important because Planned Parenthood had claimed to the media and others that it was only donating the “tissue” and the funds received were not for the aborted “tissues” themselves but for general administrative “costs” associated with their transferal.

Further, the Stem Express contract with Planned Parenthood Mar Monte also expressly stated that the affiliate would be paid “$55 per POC [product of conception] determined in the clinic to be usable and $10 per maternal blood.”

“Planned Parenthood Mar Monte will invoice Stem-Ex monthly for the number of POC’s and number of maternal bloods procured by Stem-Ex,” it reads.

Invoices sent from Planned Parenthood Mar Monte to Stem Express, which were a part of the court record, show the abortion giant billing Stem Express for thousands of dollars each month.

As previously reported, following the release of Daleiden’s undercover videos in 2015, then-Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards firmly denied that the organization received compensation for aborted babies, stating in a recorded video:

“I want to be really clear: The allegation that Planned Parenthood profits in any way from tissue donation is not true. Our donation programs — like any other high-quality health care providers — follow all laws and ethical guidelines.”

Planned Parenthood also claimed that the videos had been deceptively edited, but the full versions of the recordings were freely viewable on YouTube for all who wished to watch the hours-long raw footage as well.
