Exorcist talks about his role and recognizing real evil
Vatican-trained exorcist knows evil when he sees it

The Rev. Vincent Lampert knows Hollywood has created an image of his profession, a dark figure in a hat looking up at a window, preparing to cast out demons.

He says most exorcisms aren’t as dramatic as they appear in movies, but some come close.

There was the time in Italy when a woman shook violently and Lampert said he saw her levitate above a chair.

“If I had not seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn’t have believed it,” Lampert, 48, a Roman Catholic priest and designated exorcist for the Diocese of Indianapolis, said in a telephone interview this past week. “There was nothing between her and the chair. My jaw must have been open.”

Lampert spoke to an audience of close to 600 people Friday night at St. Paul Inside the Walls: The Catholic Center for Evangelism at Bayley-Ellard in Madison. The timing of the event, three days before Halloween, was not unusual. Lampert said he’s always in demand in October.

He typically talks about the relevance of exorcism in modern times, and about a moral crisis of people moving away from God that he says has led to a rise of secularism and superstition. He said he’s one of just 36 Vatican-trained exorcists in the U.S., a number that’s tripled over the past 10 years as the Catholic Church reportedly tries to stem a movement of people seeking answers in the occult.

“People were turning elsewhere for help to figure out what’s going on.” Lampert said.

It’s not clear how many priests perform exorcisms in the U.S., and how many are performed. Lampert said every bishop is authorized to perform the Rite of Exorcism and may bestow the authority to perform that rite on priests.

Officials with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Paterson, which covers Morris, Sussex and Passaic counties, say they have a designated exorcist, a priest who has performed at least two exorcisms over the past couple of years.

That priest’s identity is kept secret from the public, said Ken Mullaney, the diocese attorney, because church officials don’t want him to be inundated by exorcism requests. No exorcism is allowed to proceed without the approval of Paterson Diocese Bishop Arthur Serratelli, Mullaney said. The diocese also has another requirement implemented by Mullaney two years ago. Subjects must sign a waiver form.

Catholic church in Madrid says it needs exorcists to help flock cope with the devil

THE Catholic archdiocese in Madrid says it needs more exorcists to help some of its faithful cope with the devil.

An archdiocese spokeswoman said on Friday Madrid only has one exorcist priest and that it is considering a plan to train more.

She spoke on condition of anonymity in keeping with archdiocese policy.

"The devil exists. That's a fact," she told The Associated Press.

Only a priest authorised by a bishop can perform an exorcism and the brief rite involves blessings with holy water, prayers and an interrogation of the devil by the exorcist during which the demon is asked to leave the victim.

ReligionenLibertad, a Catholic website, blames the growing secularisation of Spanish society for what it calls an increase in people asking for help with their demons.

Exorcisms hit the headlines earlier this week when Pope Francis's blessing of a disabled man was said to be an exorcism.

The Pope was filmed laying his hands on the head of a young disabled man after celebrating mass in St Peter's Square on Sunday.

The young man heaved deeply a half-dozen times, shook, and he then slumped in his wheelchair as Francis prayed over him.

The Vatican television station, TV 2000, said it had surveyed exorcists, who agreed there was "no doubt" that Francis either performed an exorcism or a prayer to free the man from the devil.

^^ Now this has infiltrated Protestant/Baptist churches in recent years as well - this whole charismatic/signs and wonders movement has this belief that certain Christians were appointed prophets and apostles to fight spiritual warfare in this country and in this world, which is also known as the New Apostle Reformation. Bill Bright is one of the leaders.

Come to think of it, my previous church partnered with Bill Bright's ministry almost 10 years ago.

As for those bible passages talking about casting out devils - let's not forget that it was a sign to the Jews and Pharisees in ISRAEL during Jesus's 3.5 year ministry on earth, and then the Apostles's ministry in Israel in the book of Acts. Which is why 1) Acts is really more of a transition book, and 2) The 4 gospels(Matthew - John) deals with Jesus's 3.5 year ministry on earth - no, I am NOT throwing Matthew - Acts out of the bathwater, but nonetheless we have to be careful in terms of thinking that we have to go to these books every time to get our doctrine.

Acts 28:25  And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,
Act 28:26  Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:
Act 28:27  For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
Act 28:28  Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.

And this, of course, is among the last scripture passages in the last chapter of Acts - it was after that where we have the New Testament epistles(hence the Acts 28:18 verse). As we all know, NOWHERE in the NT epistles does it talk about people being devil possessed(concerning believers AND non-believers).

1John_3:8  He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

For the most part - the reason why there's a lot of confusion in the modern-day church over this is b/c they're reading wrong bible versions - from what I've read, the Westcott and Hort Alexandrian texts alter some key portions of NT scripture talking about Israel(ie-in Matthew - Acts), and make it sound like the NT church has replaced Israel(which is replacement theology heresy).

Jesus said the only sign they, the Jews,  would get from him was the sign of Jonah. Now the gift of speaking in tongues was a sign just for the Jews. But i never heard that casting out Devils was.

Would you expound on that? I think I know what your getting at by that statement, but I want to make sure.

Heb 2:14  Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
Heb 2:15  And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

1John 3:8  He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Gal 5:16  This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Gal 5:17  For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Gal 5:18  But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

As we can see here from these 3 passages in the NT epistles, a born again believer can NOT be possessed with some devil. As for unbelievers?

1Peter 4:3  For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:

Titus 3:3  For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
Tit 3:4  But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
Tit 3:5  Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Eph 2:1  And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
Eph 2:2  Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Eph 2:3  Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

OK, these 3 passages talk about how we lived our lives BEFORE we got saved - nonetheless as you can see with unbelievers, it's not like unbelievers had some devil possessing them before they got saved.

BTW - isn't the Satan the father of lies? Doesn't Satan and his minions masquerade as an angel of light/ministers of righteousness? Just saying.

With that being said, like said in my previous post - while I'm NOT saying ignore the first 4 gospels + Acts, at the same time, we can't go running to Matthew - Acts every single time to get doctrine. Again, it was to show a sign to ISRAEL(Jews and Pharisees) when devils were casted out - and I bring this up b/c even Protestant/Baptist churches of today are falling for this "but we can cast out devils" nonsense.

Paul was casting out devils in ACTS 16, And are you sure that it was just a sign to the Jews? In acts 16 they were in the GREEK city of Philippi. And they cast the devil out of a Greek girl.

Jesus said the only sign they, the Jews,  would get from him was the sign of Jonah. Now the gift of speaking in tongues was a sign just for the Jews. But i never heard that casting out Devils was.

I understand that part now(to the Greek city of Philippi) - but nonetheless, Acts is more of a TRANSITION book, at least from what I understand. But when you get to the NT epistles from Romans to Revelation, nowhere do they talk about casting out devils.

Yes, I understand when you play around with witchcraft or join the Freemasons, you are playing with a lot of fire right there - but nonetheless again, when you compare the book of Acts with the NT epistles, you can see a rather big difference. No, not throwing Acts out of the bathwater, but at the same time some(including myself) tend to error when they run to the book of Acts too frequently to get their doctrine.

Also, I read Kurt Koch's "Occult ABC" last year - it's a very informative book over playing around with witchcraft and its consequences. He's a German Christian psychologist, and documented many people, including professing Christians, who played around with many forms of witchcraft and paid the price for it.

Heb 12:6  For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
Heb 12:7  If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
Heb 12:8  But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

You didnt explain how you think it was just a sign to the Jews?

I said above that you cleared that particular part up where that particular casting out the devil sign was at Philippi(where the Greeks are). This part is cleared up for me. But for the MOST part from Matthew to Acts, a lot of these signs were to the nation of Israel, but they largely believed not.

OK, still, the book of Acts is more of a TRANSITION book - compare that to the NT epistles from Romans to Revelation...where in these epistles does it talk about casting out devils?

Like I said, this is my big problem with the modern-day church - when people like the NAR movement go around to see who has devils in them, it just sickens me how they end up falling for it. But of course the NAR movement completely overlooked their "heros" like Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, both of whom practiced black magic.

Mat 9:32  As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil.
Mat 9:33  And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.

Sorry about that, everyone, for using the word "transition" when referring to the book of Acts - I'll admit, I've gotten carried away with this for months now, especially after that Asian missionary guy from late 2011 came to me in front of my family and the pastor to tell me I had a lot of devils and darkness in me.

No, I'm not bitter about it or anything, but since then, I've just been very cautious over even the mere debate of it that can/can't be done nowdays. I'll admit, what happened that very night to me was pretty traumatizing, but nonetheless no excuse for me to start calling the book of Acts a "transition" book like this, when it IS in the doctrines of the bible(and a very important book too).

Thank you for exhorting me on this.

5  Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds.
6  [Let] the high [praises] of God [be] in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their hand;
7  To execute vengeance upon the heathen, [and] punishments upon the people;
8  To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;
9  To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD.

Catholic Church's Top Exorcist Claims He Rid World of 160,000 Demons

The Catholic Church's top exorcist, who claims to have sent 160,000 demons back to hell, says he wants Pope Francis to allow all priests to start performing the ritual to deal with a rising demand for exorcisms from the faithful.

Father Gabriele Amorth, 88, who also heads the International Association of Exorcists, told The Sunday Times that he will ask Pope Francis to allow all priests the right to do exorcisms without the church's approval. According to the report, priests currently need special approval from their bishop to perform the rite and it is rarely granted.

"I will ask the pope to give all priests the power to carry out exorcisms, and to ensure priests are properly trained for these starting with the seminary. There's a huge demand for them," said Father Amorth.

He explained that he was inspired to make the request after watching Pope Francis perform what he insists was an exorcism on a man "possessed by four demons" in St. Peter's Square.

"The pope is also the Bishop of Rome, and like any bishop he is also an exorcist," Amorth reportedly told La Repubblica newspaper. "It was a real exorcism. If the Vatican has denied this, it shows that they understand nothing."

"There was now, more than ever, a need for exorcists to combat people possessed by 'sorcerers' and 'Satanists,'" he noted in that report.

An 84-page update of exorcism rites compiled in 1614 and drawn up in 1998 stipulates how Catholic priests trained as exorcists should operate.

According to the guidelines established by the church, they have to follow a ritual known as "De exorcismis et supplicationibus quibusdam," or "Of exorcisms and certain supplications."

Amorth explained that Pope Francis' exorcism on May 19 helped to balance the growing atheism in the world where people don't believe in the Devil anymore.

"We live in an age in which God has been forgotten. And wherever God is not present, the Devil rules," said Amorth.

"Today, unfortunately, bishops don't appoint sufficient exorcists. We need many more. I hope that Rome will send out directives to bishops around the world calling on them to appoint more exorcists."

Amorth is also an outspoken critic of yoga and Harry Potter books and dismissed them as ungodly hobbies.

"Practicing yoga brings evil as does reading Harry Potter. They may both seem innocuous but they both deal with magic and that leads to evil," he said.

In addressing Harry Potter, he said: "People think it is an innocuous book for children but it's about magic and that leads to evil. In Harry Potter the Devil is at work in a cunning and crafty way, he is using his extraordinary powers of magic and evil."

"Satan is always hidden and the thing he desires more than anything is for people to believe he does not exist," he noted. "He studies each and every one of us and our tendencies towards good and evil and then he tempts us."

^^ This is exactly what the New Apostle Reformation is doing as part of their agenda as well - if you don't know what this "dominionist" group is about, definitely look it up on a search engine like Yahoo. They are doing their part to help usher in this One World Religion.

You have the "religious right"/"moral majority" that came about in 1980(the same year Reagan was "elected" to office, coincidence?) that also have this "dominionist" attitude.(ie-one of its founders, Trent Lott, is a 33rd Degree Freemason, while various other members like Falwell and Robertson are Council for National Policy members)

As you can see - all roads lead to Rome.

OK everyone, let's all just SLOW DOWN here. I'll admit, I myself was a big error when I incorrectly said that the casting out of devils was only to show signs to the Jews, and how Acts is only a "transition" book - then both Mark and Kilika pointed out the errors of my ways here.

I'll admit too, the reason why I myself have been saying many times how Acts is a "transition" book was b/c I merely took what Bryan Denlinger and David Cloud(Way of Life ministries) said at face value(when I should have searched the scriptures myself before making this conclusion) - remember what you guys said about following teachers? Yes, Acts has some different dispensations, but that doesn't mean we have to ignore it et al. There are also key scripture passases important to doctrine as well(ie-the passage talking about searching the scriptures daily to see if these things are so).

With that being said, let's all just SLOW DOWN here, b/c we are getting WAY ahead of ourselves(me included).

OK, concerning this discussion of casting out devils, let's see if we can put it in perspective here(instead of getting way ahead of myself). Let's look at this passage in the NT epistles...

Eph 6:11  Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Eph 6:12  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

OK - what is the context of Ephesians 6:12 talking about? Well, it appears to me that all of the governments of the world, and other high level, powerful earthly entities like let's say the entertainment industry(Hollywood, music, etc), the mainstream media, book publishing companies(ie-Zonderfan and Thomas Nelson), authority institutions(ie-public education and organized-religion like the Southern Baptist Convention/Vatican), and pretty much every high level commerce/trade industry(ie-pharmaceutical companies) and other "influential institutions"(ie-PBS, which brought us popular programs like "Mr. Rogers Neighborhood" and the original "Degrassi") are these "principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places". How is this?

Rev 18:1  And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
Rev 18:2  And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
Rev 18:3  For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
Rev 18:4  And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

Eph_2:2  Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

So pt being that the modern-day church has this misperception that our "spiritual warfare" can be some devil harassing, or even possessing the believer in Christ. Believe me, having been through this modern-day organized church system, I've seen it all - they will incorrectly teach that your spiritual battles are only with yourself(as that SBC bigwig Charles Stanley would say, it's a "Satanic attack") - but that's not what scripture says, I don't think...

2Cor 10:8  For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:
2Co 10:9  That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.
2Co 10:10  For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.

So how does Satan and his minions operate? Through DECEPTION...

2Cor 11:13  For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
2Co 11:14  And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
2Co 11:15  Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Through HOW?

2Peter 2:1  But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in d@mnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2Pe 2:2  And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
2Pe 2:3  And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

Through a disguise or RELIGION!

Rev 12:7  And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
Rev 12:8  And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
Rev 12:9  And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
Rev 12:10  And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
Rev 12:11  And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Yeah, don't see anything here of a "Satanic attack" in this passage, nor in the previous above 2 passages, right?

Title: Re: Vatican-trained exorcist knows evil when he sees it

In conclusion - as for why casting out devils is in scripture from Matthew - Acts, I don't know. Like said, I thought it was a sign to the Jews, until Mark pointed out to me that the passage in Acts 16 was in a Greek city.

But nonetheless, just going by the NT epistles alone, our spiritual warfare isn't what this current Pope(nor the modern-day church) is trying to make it out to be.

Eph 4:30  And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

And also to add, had a discussion with a brethren the other day over Satan being the most subtle beast of the field, and how the buildup to the strong delusion is pretty much using deception over SMALL things.

Gen 3:1  Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

Well for one, that's not what God said when he told Eve "Yeah, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?"(even though it MAY HAVE APPEARED God said it) Pt being that just like with Charles Stanley and his "Satanic attack" teachings(the Satanic attacks on the believer) - while Stanley may seem like he genuinely cares about his flock, at the same time, without going into what he said in his teachings, that is NOT what scripture teaches, at all. But at the same time, it's so easy to fall for b/c of all of the subtleness that comes with it.

Pt being that no, I don't expect every believe in Christ to have a complete understanding of scripture from Genesis to Revelation, but nonetheless the first thing you have to ask yourself, "Where is it in scripture?". If it's nowhere, then yeah, these people need to be held accountable for these teachings. Otherwise if we just go on like it's either nothing, or in most cases like it's doctrine we should embrace, it will lead the believer astray, and into confusion.

Doctrine is 1...

http://1828.mshaffer.com/d/search/word,doctrine

DOCTRINE, n. [L., to teach.]

1. In a general sense, whatever is taught. Hence, a principle or position in any science; whatever is laid down as true by an instructor or master. The doctrines of the gospel are the principles or truths taught by Christ and his apostles. The doctrines of Plato are the principles which he taught. Hence a doctrine may be true or false; it may be a mere tenet or opinion.

2. The act of teaching.
He taught them many things by parables, and said to them in his doctrine. Mark 4.

3. Learning; knowledge.
Whom shall he make to understand doctrine? Isaiah 28.

4. The truths of the gospel in general.
That they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things. Titus 2.

5. Instruction and confirmation in the truths of the gospel. 2 Timothy 3.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Isaiah_28:9  Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.
