7 teens charged with beating classmate unconscious

Seven central Florida teenagers were arrested after authorities said they punched and kicked a 13-year-old until she was unconscious while on a school bus.

The victim told authorities that Friday was her first time riding the bus and no one would let her sit down. About 75 children were riding the bus bound for a middle school in Ocala, a rural city north of Orlando. The victim said someone threw a shoe at her and she threw one back, according to an arrest report.

One girl allegedly asked students if they wanted to hit the victim, then instructed the teens to form a circle and began hitting and kicking the victim. Several witnesses said they saw the girl fall to the floor and "appear to have a seizure and pass out," according to the arrest report.

In this issue of the Last Trumpet Newsletter, we will focus on the flood of evil which has sprung forth from Satan in these last days. We now live in a time when our adversary, the devil, has unleashed a deluge of sin upon this world. While wicked men and women gobble up and absorb everything Satan has to offer them, we see the impact this sin has on their lives; and in doing so, we come to the realization that we do not want to participate in any of it. Although there are many seducing spirits now vying for your soul, we understand the importance of resisting the devil and his advances. In James 4:7 we read, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." As we progress through time, the world will grow increasingly wicked, and there will be many attempts to break down your resistance to the flood of evil engulfing the souls of mankind. However, I can tell you with all certainty that resistance is not futile.

Hands That Shed Innocent Blood!

In Proverbs 6:16-17 we find a list of seven sins that God hates. The third sin on this list is "hands that shed innocent blood." There is certainly no blood more innocent than that of an unborn child. Sadly, the United States of America not only allows, but condones the slaughter of over one million babies each and every year through abortion. A recent news report indicates that Planned Parenthood, which is the largest provider of abortions in the United States, received 487.4 million dollars in government funding from the period covering July 1, 2009, to June 30, 2010. During this period, they murdered 329,455 babies. This treacherous organization receives tax dollars to help fund their operations despite the fact that they have over one billion dollars in assets. (1)

From 1973 through 2008, nearly 50 million babies were murdered in the United States. It is estimated that approximately one-third of all women in America will have had at least one abortion, considering the present rate. In 2007, the most recent year for which data is provided, the ratio in New York City was 737 abortions for every 1000 live births. Eighty-four percent of all abortions are performed on unmarried women, and the most common reasons given for seeking an abortion are that having a child would interfere with work or school and that a child is unaffordable. (2)

Shockingly, the Salvation Army, which is a conservative charity group traditionally known to be based on Christian values, has now softened its stance on abortion. In a statement issued on their website in November 2010, the Salvation Army International stated, "The Salvation Army believes that termination can occur only when carrying the pregnancy further seriously threatens the life of the mother; or reliable diagnostic procedures have identified a fetal abnormality considered incompatible with survival for more than a very brief post natal period. In addition, **** and incest are brutal acts of dominance violating women physically and emotionally. This situation represents a special case for the consideration of termination as the violation may be compounded by the continuation of the pregnancy." (3) The statement on the Salvation Army International website has caused distress even amongst members of the organization itself. Jeff Stanger, the development director of the Indiana Division of the Salvation Army USA asserted, "That statement is not the Salvation Army USA's position on abortion." Major George Hood, the chief communications officer for the American branch of the Salvation Army, sent official correspondence to the international headquarters voicing his objections to the statement. (4)

Of all the sins so prevalent in the United States and much of the world, I believe abortion is the sin most detestable to God. There is nothing more brutal than robbing a tiny baby of life before the precious child even takes its first breath. The fact that women and their doctors can be so uncompassionate is just another indicator of how evil this world has become in the last days. There was a time when children were considered a blessing, but in this day and age, parents often consider their children to be burdens. Those who seek abortions not only rob their innocent children of life, they also rob themselves of a blessing. For as it is written in Psalm 127:3, "Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward."

The Brainwashing Of America's Youth!

In recent years, homosexuality has made the transition from the closet to the mainstream. Many of America's favorite entertainers and celebrities are homosexual, and this lifestyle has been making inroads, even amongst those who claim to be Christians. Now a coalition of health and education groups have released a new set of guidelines that calls for the sexual education of children to begin as early as the second grade. According to the guidelines, children should be taught to properly identify the anatomy of a male or female in grade two. By the end of the fifth grade, the recommendations suggest that children should be taught about homosexuality. Cora Collette Breuner, a pediatrics professor at the University of Washington, lauded the new recommendations. "The data points that trying to cover this stuff when kids have already formulated their own opinions and biases by the time they're in middle and high school, it's too late," Breuner stated. (5) In other words, the consensus among those charged with educating young children advocate a thorough brainwashing and mental conditioning before their students have an opportunity to form opinions of their own.

Not only has homosexuality become accepted by society, but homosexuals are sometimes given preferential treatment. One such example is an article published by LiveScience in January 2012 entitled "Why Gay Parents May Be the Best Parents." The article cites a psychologist known as Abbie Goldberg, who makes the claim that homosexual parents "tend to be more motivated, more committed than heterosexual parents on average, because they chose to be parents." According to the article, over half of all homosexual men and 41 percent of all lesbians in the United States would like to adopt children. Sociologist Judith Stacy of New York University was quoted as saying she believes gay men "will be the best parents on average." (6) According to a 2007 report, there were 65,000 children living with adoptive gay parents between 2000 and 2002. (7) Although more current data was not cited, it seems likely that number has only increased since that time.

Witchcraft - Flaunted And On Display!

These days, witchcraft is often considered a silly little genre of harmless fantasy. Although pagans have been practicing their religion for thousands of years, few people, outside of those who are initiated into the various factions of the occult, actually take it seriously. Yet, as I mentioned in the December 2011 issue of the Last Trumpet, paganism is the fastest growing religion in the United States.

One city which has always been notorious for witchcraft is Salem, Massachusetts. Salem is home to the federally recognized temple of witchcraft known as the Cabot Kent Hermetic Temple. (8) The temple's founder, Laurie Cabot, was proclaimed "the official witch of Salem" in the 1970s by Michael Dukakis, who was governor of the state of Massachusetts at the time. (9) The people of Salem are very proud of their witchcraft. Their official police insignia features the image of a witch riding a broom with the words "the witch city" prominently displayed. (10) One of their public schools is known as the "Witchcraft Heights Elementary School," and they have a high school athletic team known as "The Witches." (11)

Here let it be noted that two witches from Salem, Massachusetts, held a séance on Friday the 13th of January 2012 in an attempt to help secure a win for the New England Patriots over the Denver Broncos in the divisional round of the playoffs in the National Football League. "I'm going to raise the energy of the universe and send out all the good mojo," declared one of the witches. The chant performed at their altar of witchcraft was, "Tom Brady will see what he needs to see, be where he needs to be, and will take the Patriots to another victory." (12) Although casting such a spell sounds like complete foolishness to us, these witches believe in what they do. The Bible warns us in the book of Revelation that sorcery, which is a form of witchcraft, is one of the sins which will condemn people to hell. In Revelation 21:8 we read, "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and ****mongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." This verse indicates that not only is witchcraft a serious sin, but also it is a sin that will persist until the end of time.

Rising Opposition To Christianity!

Despite the fact that a recent poll found that 92 percent of its respondents believe in God and 78 percent identify themselves as Christians in the United States (13), a spirit of opposition has risen up against Christianity in America. In New York City, a ban has been put in place to prevent Christian groups from renting public schools to use as locations for church gatherings. Even though the rental of such facilities brought in several million dollars each year, the Board of Education in New York City has decided to impose the ban in what they claim is an effort to protect the minds of "impressionable youth." (14) On January 12, 2012, about 200 people gathered to protest the ban outside a public school where Mayor Michael Bloomberg was giving his state of the city address. While kneeling in prayer in front of the school, the protestors were ordered to leave by the police. In total, forty-three people were arrested for their public prayers, which the authorities deemed to be disorderly conduct. (15)

In Mount Pleasant, Tennessee, city manager Michelle Williams has banned workers at City Hall from praying during work hours. "We have no problem with them praying; it's just they need to do it on their own time," Williams said. Ms. Williams also made the claim that her decision would be beneficial to the citizens of her community. "Ultimately, their tax dollars are spent to pay city employees' salary. I would think (citizens) would want them working while they are getting paid," stated Williams. (16)

In the state of New Jersey, the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association, which is operated by the United Methodist Church, was found to be in violation of New Jersey's nondiscrimination law after it refused to allow a civil-union ceremony for a lesbian couple to be performed at its facility. The same-sex couple filed a lawsuit after being turned down, and in January 2012, Judge Solomon Metzger ruled in their favor. "The respondent violated the [Law Against Discrimination] when it refused to conduct a civil-union ceremony for Ms. Bernstein and Ms. Paster," Judge Metzger wrote in his decision. (17)

Tightening The Leash On The American People!

Although debtors' prisons were technically abolished during the 1800s in the United States, more than a third of all states in America allow people who are unable to pay their debts to be jailed. Once a debtor becomes delinquent in loan payments, a creditor will often file a lawsuit against them. If a debtor then fails to appear at a court hearing or is unable or unwilling to make payments on the debt, an arrest warrant is then issued by the judge presiding over the case. The Wall Street Journal reports that at least 5,000 warrants of this nature have been issued since the beginning of 2010. (18)

In many cases, the debts that result in jail time are not even terribly significant. One such case involved a woman in Carbondale, Illinois, who spent five days in jail after she failed to a pay a $275 debt owed to a payday lender company. (19) In another case in the state of Illinois, a woman was arrested and jailed for failure to pay a $730 medical bill. (20) A man in Kansas City also faced jail time after he lost his job and was unable to make payments on some furniture he had purchased. (21)

In the state of Texas, many public schools are now actively patrolled by police officers throughout the course of the school day. Children are sometimes arrested for frivolous reasons. One such incident occurred after a twelve-year-old girl sprayed herself with perfume during class. Her teacher immediately chastised her saying, "Put that away; that's the most terrible smell I've ever smelled." The teacher then called the police who had been roaming the corridors of the school. The officers arrested the girl, charged her with a criminal misdemeanor, and ordered her to appear in court. (22) In the year 2010, police officers in Texas issued nearly 300,000 tickets to children as young as six years old. (23)

These days, the police might even get involved if you have overdue library books. Such was the case in Charlton, Massachusetts, where a police officer was dispatched to fetch books from a five-year-old girl who had failed to return them in a timely manner. "I thought it was way overboard. I closed my door, I looked at my daughter, and she started crying," the child's mother said. The officer who made the visit was not pleased with his assignment either. "Nobody wanted to, on this end to get involved in it. But the library contacted us, and the chief delegated, and apparently I was one of the low men on the totem pole," said Charlton Police Sergeant Dan Dowd. (24)

The erosion of personal freedom in the United States has become so undeniable that even the mainstream news media is starting to take notice. On January 13, 2012, the Washington Post published a story entitled "Ten Reasons the U.S. Is No Longer the Land of the Free." The article explains how the President of the United States and federal government agencies now have the authority to assassinate American citizens if they are deemed to be terrorists. Other abuses mentioned in the article include indefinite detention, warrantless searches, secret courts, and the continual monitoring of the American people. (25)

Reports have now surfaced that police forces all across the United States are becoming increasingly militarized to deal with the potential threat of a terrorist attack. Even the city of Fargo, North Dakota, which rarely even has a murder, went on an eight million dollar spending spree, which included the purchase of a $256,643 armored truck. One sheriff's department in Arizona even owns a military surplus tank. Since September 11, 2001, more than 34 billion dollars in federal grants have been doled out to police departments to facilitate these equipment upgrades. (26) Additionally, a new riot shield, known as the LRAD Sound Cannon, is now being developed. It will use low frequency sound waves to affect the upper respiratory tract and impair breathing until the targets are subdued. (27)

Law enforcement officials may not be the only people worried about potential attacks. In December 2011 a new record for gun sales was set in the United States. The FBI performed 1.5 million background checks, which are required before a person can legally purchase a gun, in December. On December 23, 2011, 102,222 of these background checks were performed, making it the second busiest day for gun sales on record. (28)

What Will The Future Be Like?

In this current year of 2012, we find all of humanity at a crossroads. The world we live in is on the very cusp of a dramatic transformation. Those pushing for these changes say it is all for the betterment of mankind, but if their goals should ever be fully implemented, the human race may soon find it has been assimilated into a system very difficult to escape. In December 2011 the Center for Technology Innovation at Brookings published a report entitled "Recording Everything: Digital Storage as an Enabler of Authoritarian Governments." As an introduction to the report, the author, John Villasenor, writes the following, "Within the next few years an important threshold will be crossed: For the first time ever, it will become technologically and financially feasible for authoritarian governments to record nearly everything that is said or done within their borders - every phone conversation, electronic message, social media interaction, the movements of nearly every person and vehicle, and video from every street corner. Governments with a history of using all of the tools at their disposal to track and monitor their citizens will undoubtedly make full use of this capability once it becomes available." (29)

The Brookings report goes hand-in-hand with a press release issued by IBM on December 19, 2011. In the release, IBM reveals five technologies they are hoping to implement over the course of the next five years. One of the goals is to develop a system that would use unique biometric data, such as facial definitions, retinal scans, and voice files, as your password to access online data. Far more troubling, however, is the technology IBM scientists are presently working on that they are hoping will literally read your mind. "If you just need to think about calling someone, it happens. Or you can control the cursor on a computer screen just by thinking about where you want to move it," states the report. (30) Over the last few decades, technology has advanced to amazing new heights. We stand at the precipice of a new dangerous era in which people no longer control their technology, but rather, the technology controls the people.

More Cases Of Disease And Pestilence!

In December 2011 a news story broke regarding a new strain of H5N1 avian influenza, which is more commonly known as bird flu. This strain of the flu is more deadly than previous strains and spreads more easily amongst mammals. Another unique trait of this strain of the virus is that it was intentionally created in medical labs at the Erasmus University Medical Center in the Netherlands and at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. This form of the virus is considered to be so dangerous that government officials requested that details regarding how it is made be withheld from publication for fear that it could be used as a biological weapon. (31) Following public outcry over fear that the virus could accidentally escape from research labs, scientists have agreed to suspend all research on their strain of H5N1 for sixty days. (32)

A new strain of swine flu has also surfaced in recent days. The virus, which is formally known as H3N2v, has infected at least twelve people in the states of Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia here in the United States. Worry has been expressed that this strain of the virus can be transmitted more easily from human-to-human than previous strains. (33)

In Haiti a virulent strain of cholera has now infected 500,000 people and killed 7,000 since October 2010. Evidence recently surfaced indicating that this brutal strain of cholera was brought to Haiti by UN peacekeeping troops out of Nepal. John Mekalanos, chairman of the Department of Microbiology and Immunobiology at Harvard Medical School, expressed deep concern over the virus. "What scares me is that the strain from South Asia has been recognized as more virulent, more capable of causing severe disease, and more transmissible. These strains are nasty. So far there has been no secondary outbreak. But Haiti now represents a foothold for a particularly dangerous variety of this deadly disease." Before this outbreak occurred, there had never been a case of cholera in Haiti or even in the entire Western Hemisphere. (34)

A Grim Outlook For The Global Economy!

Although news outlets have been reporting improvements in the American economy in recent weeks, the hard times in the United States and many other countries are far from over. It is now estimated that Barack Obama will have increased the national debt by 6.2 trillion dollars when his first term finally ends on January 20, 2013. (35) To date, Obama's strategy to cure America's debt problem has mainly involved tax hikes for the rich. He has stated on numerous occasions that rich folks, such as himself, can afford to pay "a little more." Of course, if he was really so eager to pay more, he could do so now instead of waiting for it to become law. Obama could easily make some generous donations to the United States Treasury. I am sure they would be readily accepted. However, instead of doing that, Obama prefers to leave the American taxpayers on the hook for his extravagant lifestyle. It is estimated that his December 2011 holiday vacation in Hawaii cost the American people approximately four million dollars. (36)

In a startling article published on January 6, 2012, by Reuters, it was reported that the global economy could survive disruption for only one week. Potential disruptions include attacks by militants or widespread natural disasters, which could essentially cause a global economic shutdown. According to a report by the London-based Chatham House, "One week seems to be the maximum tolerance of the 'just-in-time' global economy." (37)

Catastrophic disasters are not the only cause for worry to the global economy. The largest economies in the world will be facing a mountain of 7.6 trillion dollars in debt that is maturing this year. (38) In Europe, nine nations, including France and Austria, were subjected to a credit rating cut by Standard and Poor's. (39) In the nation of Greece, children are now being abandoned by parents who are no longer able to provide for their needs. According to Antonios Papanikolaou, founder of the Ark of the World Youth Centre in Athens, hundreds of parents have requested that the organization take their children. (40) Gerald Calente, founder of Trends Research Institute, has warned that several European nations are already in the throes of a depression. "If you live in Greece, you're in a depression; if you live in Spain, you're in a depression; if you live in Portugal or Ireland, you're in a depression. If you live in Lithuania, you're running to the bank to get your money out of the bank as the bank runs go on. It's a depression. Hungary, there's a depression, and much of Eastern Europe, Romania, Bulgaria. And there are a lot of depressions going on [already]," Calente stated. (41)

With so many nations now facing massive debt, one might wonder what the solution to the problem is. In the February 2012 issue of Wired magazine, writer David Wolman suggests that the answer might be a universal currency. (42) This was not the first time a global currency has been suggested in recent years, and it is likely that it will not be the last time. It is all part of Satan's grand scheme for a one world government. I believe this is yet another sign of the times and an indicator that the coming of our Saviour draweth nigh.

In closing, I urge all of you to seek the Lord while there is still time. The world has been engulfed by a flood of evil, but you can be safe and secure if you put all your hope and trust in God. In Psalm 32:5-7 we read, "I acknowledge my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him. Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah." Police: 14 hurt in shooting at Tempe, Ariz., club

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Police made one arrest and were looking for two other suspects after a shootout amid a large crowd outside an Arizona nightclub left more than a dozen people wounded and set off a chaotic scene as the injured screamed for help and hundreds tried to flee.

The number of people confirmed to have been wounded in the late-Friday shooting in the Phoenix suburb of Tempe rose to 14 after a person went to a hospital Saturday with a gunshot wound to the foot, police spokesman Lt. Mike Horn said.

None of the wounded had life-threatening injuries. Twelve of them had relatively minor injuries, some driving themselves to local hospitals, while two were seriously hurt.

"People were running in all different directions, and some people were trying to force their way into the bar to get away," Horn said. "It was incredibly chaotic, and understandably so. Again, we're just fortunate that no one was killed."

19 Signs That America Is Becoming A Very Heartless Place

The economy is not the only thing that is wrong with America.  In order for a society to function smoothly, people need to be able to trust one another and be able to expect that most of their fellow citizens will behave in a somewhat civilized manner.  Unfortunately, we are starting to see the very fabric of our society slowly unravel all over the nation.  The truth is that America is becoming a very heartless place.  People simply do not care about one another the way that they used to in this country.  Of course there are many exceptions, but the reality is that millions of hearts are going cold from coast to coast.  In America today, we are more self-absorbed than ever, more self-centered than ever, and we are more isolated from others than ever.  Just think about the number of people that you personally interact with on a regular basis.  Unless you are involved with a very large organization such as a school or a church, it is probably a very limited number.  Our addiction to entertainment gives us the illusion of being connected to society, but the truth is that Americans spend less time personally interacting with one another than ever before.  Meanwhile, Americans are seemingly becoming more arrogant, more prideful, more angry, more brutal, more greedy and more addicted to pleasure than ever before.  When you combine millions of very cold hearts with an economy that is rapidly crumbling, that adds up to a whole lot of trouble in the years ahead.

Even government authorities are becoming heartless.  TSA agents and police officers are actually trained to "act tough" and to bark orders at us.  In the old days, you could reason with a police officer, but these days if you try to talk common sense with some of these thugs you will get tasered before you even realize what is happening.

The American people can see the deep corruption in Washington D.C. and throughout most of our other major institutions and they wonder why they should keep trying to do "the right thing".

If our leaders are selfish and heartless, then it is only natural that millions of average Americans will follow their examples.

In America today, we are taught to hate one another.  Democrats are taught to hate Republicans and Republicans are taught to hate Democrats.  We are a deeply divided nation and our hearts are getting colder with each passing year.

Parents are becoming more cruel, thieves are becoming more bold and thugs are becoming more brutal.  Hate, anger and frustration are fueling some really twisted behavior all over the country.  America is changing, and not for the better.

#1 At one airport in Hawaii, TSA agents recently required one new mother to go to a public restroom and fill up the empty baby bottles she was carrying with breast milk before they would allow her to get on to her flight.  The following is how one local news station described the incident....

She claims agents told her she couldn't take the pump on the plane because the bottles in her carry-on were empty.

"I asked him if there was a private place I could pump and he said no, you can go in the women's bathroom. I had to stand in front of the mirrors and the sinks and pump my breast in front of every tourist that walked into that bathroom. #2 One way that a society is judged is by how it treats children.  Unfortunately, stories such as the following one from Texas are becoming increasingly common in America today....

Texas authorities said Tuesday they removed 11 children from a crowded home where a registered sex offender lives after they found eight confined in a small, dark bedroom with restraints tying some to their beds.

Along with the children, 10 adults were living in the one-story, 1,700-square-foot home in Dayton, about 30 miles northeast of Houston, Child Protective Services spokeswoman Gwen Carter said. One month after a raid on the house, authorities are still trying to determine how the children are related and why they were there, she said.

#3 Across the United States, there have been an increasing number of reports of teens randomly attacking people on the street for no apparent reason whatsoever.  In some cases, the victims are actually being pulled out of their vehicles.  The following recent example comes from Philadelphia....

IN A HORRIFIC assault in Center City on Saturday night, three teenagers who were spouting racial slurs pulled a man out of a cab to beat him. And when the cabdriver intervened to stop the assault, the teens turned their rage on him, police said yesterday.

#4 One man down in Arizona was recently charged with skinning and eating a cat.  He told authorities that he did it because he was "hungry".

#5 In the Detroit area, an 86-year-old World War II veteran was recently brutally carjacked in the middle of the day at a gas station.  His leg was broken during the assault, and as he slowly crawled across the concrete parking lot many people walked by him and drove by him as if he was not even there.

#6 One 69-year-old woman down in Texas recently went without running water for six years and nobody ever helped her out until just recently.

#7 In Ohio, one man has been charged with raping three children that he adopted and with allowing other men to have sex with them as well.

#8 One man down in Texas was recently fined by the city government for not mowing the lawn of a house that he had already lost to foreclosure.

#9 These days thieves will steal anything that is metal that they think that they can resell.  In the Philadelphia area recently, there has been a rash of brass door knocker thefts.  Thieves have been going up and pulling them right off of the front doors of private homes.

#10 As the price of gasoline rises, gasoline thieves are becoming more creative.  The following is a recent example from the Tampa Bay area....

As gas thefts go, this one was deceptively elaborate.

Inside a blue Chevrolet Venture minivan, criminals had cut out a large hole in the floorboard and set up a portable pumping station, complete with power source, pump and plastic container.

The goal: to steal hundreds of gallons of gas pulled directly from the gas station's underground storage tank and funneled into a plastic tank inside the van.
Gasoline thefts have become so common in Detroit that one city councilman wants to force gas station owners to hire security guards.

#11 One 29-year-old female tutor was recently arrested for having a sexual relationship with a 12-year-old boy that she was supposed to be tutoring.

#12 The ACLU is trying to force one library district in Washington state to allow full public access to p0rnography on library computers - even if children will be walking by and able to see what is going on.

#13 In America today, a lot of parents are becoming extremely cruel.  Down in Alabama, one 9-year-old girl recently died after being forced by her mother and grandmother to run for three hours straight as punishment for lying about having eaten some candy bars.

#14 Some Americans have become so desperate that they are trying to get sent to prison on purpose.  For example, one ex-police officer in Georgia recently robbed a bank and allowed authorities to catch him so that he could get food, shelter and free medical care in jail.

#15 What can account for the rash of seemingly random violent crimes that we have been seeing lately?  Over near Seattle, an 88-year-old man and an 83-year-old woman were brutally attacked by a 31-year-old man armed with a crossbow and a hatchet for no apparent reason whatsoever....

Prosecutors say 31-year-old John Chase was walking down the highway when he saw Ralph Aldrich, 88, in his back yard. Detectives say Chase shot and killed Aldrich with a crossbow and then went inside the home and repeatedly hit 83-year-old June Aldrich with a hatchet.

#16 In America today, many people are so angry and so frustrated that even the slightest provocation can push them over the edge.  For example, one man in Georgia actually firebombed a Taco Bell because they did not put enough meat in his Chalupa.

#17 These days Americans are having a hard time feeling safe in their own homes.  Down in Maryland, one very sick home invader was recently sentenced to 100 years in prison for doing some very twisted things....

In one case, authorities said, he sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl after breaking into her family's Fort Washington home with a cinder block and forced her to pose n.ude on a bed as he took photographs and videos of her.  Authorities said in another case, Scott and an accomplice, Marcus Dermanellian Hunter – who has already pleaded guilty to federal firearms charges – held up a Bowie family at gunpoint in April 2009, used their debit cards to steal money from ATM machines and then stole a luxury car.

#18 In America today you never know who is going to come driving up to you on the street.  Most of the time people that you meet will be at least somewhat "normal", but there is also a chance that the next strangers that you run into will be crack-fueled perverts.  Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened to a Montana teacher named Sherry Arnold...

Spell and Waters had left Colorado days before the crime claiming they wanted work in eastern Montana and western North Dakota's oil fields.

After smoking crack c0caine over the entire trip, Waters allegedly told Spell the drug 'brought the devil out in him' and began talking about kidnapping and killing a female, AP reports.

After they spotted Arnold, Spell claims that Waters told him to 'grab the lady' and pull her into their Ford Explorer as she jogged by.
After they got her into the Ford Explorer, they choked the life out of her and then buried her body in a shallow grave in North Dakota.

#19 In the Boston area, the FBI recently used a chainshaw to cut through the front door of one apartment during a raid.  They quickly subdued the woman living inside and had her on the floor for 35 minutes as her young daughter cried out to her.  Eventually they figured out that they had the wrong apartment and they issued a "routine apology" to the woman.

As our country falls apart all around us, there is going to be a greater need for love and compassion than ever before.

Don't count on the government to help those in need.  The government always does  a miserable job of that.

As I have written about previously, already more than 40 percent of all children in Atlanta and more than 50 percent of all children in Detroit are living in poverty.

In the years ahead those numbers are going to get even worse.

But it isn't just in the major cities where poverty is exploding.  Sadly, today one out of every four children in the United States is on food stamps.

As times get tough, you have two choices.

You can allow your heart to grow cold like so many other people are doing.

Or you can decide that you are going to become more loving and more compassionate than ever before.

America is becoming a very heartless place, and unfortunately there is no sign that trend is going to turn around any time soon.

But you don't have to become heartless.

Be a light that shines in the darkness.

In the end, you will be glad that you were.

Cops in Oklahoma shot and wounded a barefoot gunman on Wednesday who wandered into a downtown courthouse plaza, opened fire, and later exchanged gunfire with police, wounding a deputy and a bystander.

Tulsa police don't know what prompted Andrew Joseph Dennehy, 23, to stroll into the plaza, clad in just jean shorts and a t-shirt, and begin firing shots into the air near a gazebo between the Tulsa County courthouse and a library at around 2:30 p.m.

Bystanders frantically ran as the shots rang out, and courthouse deputies quickly swarmed the plaza and exchanged fire with Dennehy after he aimed his weapon at them, the Tulsa World reported.

Dennehy was hit in the upper body, while a deputy was shot in both hands and both arms.

Also would throw in this to comment on the article above - with all the "social justice" heresy that has infiltrated the modern-day church(especially those that are yoked up with the Emergent Church)...this crowd says how they're doing "social justice" to rid the poverties, crimes, sicknesses, etc to make this world a better place, but en yet as you see in the examples above, alot of this stuff is getting worse and worse...

Seriously - in the modern-day 501c3 corporate Emergent church, they may preach "social justice", but en yet you have pastors that are making alot of money, driving nice cars, while it's the pew members that are the ones struggling to make ends meet. Didn't Paul say that for those that have abundance, they should provide for those that are lacking? But en yet all the pew "tithe" money ends up going into the pastors' pockets and largely the overhead for the church buildings. "Social Justice"? Really?

Ultimately, we really need to check our brains at the door sometimes over what is going on, b/c there are things that are OBVIOUSLY NOT RIGHT with the current picture we are looking at.

Pittsburgh psychiatric clinic shooting leaves several wounded

Updated at 3:32 p.m. ET: OAKLAND, Pa. -- At least one gunman opened fire Thursday afternoon at a psychiatric clinic outside Pittsburgh, hitting several people, including a police officer who was grazed by a bullet, according to media reports from the scene. There were reports that hostages had been taken.

There were conflicting reports of the number of injuries at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in Oakland.

NBC News affiliate WXPI.com reported at least two people had been killed, including one gunman. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported at least five people were shot.

TOULOUSE, France (AP) — A motorcycle assailant opened fire with two handguns Monday in front of a Jewish school in the French city of Toulouse, killing a rabbi, his two young sons and a schoolgirl. One of the same guns was fired in other deadly motorcyle attacks in the area in recent days, officials said.

Authorities ordered increased security at schools and synagogues around the country after an attack that drew high-level uproar in Israel and revolted France, where school shootings and deadly attacks on Jews are extremely rare.

France, which has seen a low drumroll of anti-Semitic incidents, is particularly sensitive toward the Jewish community because of its World War II past of abetting Nazi occupiers deport Jewish citizens.

News that the gun was used in attacks last week in the Toulouse fueled suspicions that a serial killer on the loose is targeting French minorities, and not only Jews. The dead and injured in the earlier attacks were paratroopers of North African and Caribbean origin.

All three times, the attacker came on a motorcycle, apparently alone, and then sped away.

A police official said the same powerful .45-caliber handgun used in Monday's attack on a school in Toulouse was used in shootings four days ago that killed two paratroopers in nearby Montauban, and in an attack that killed a paratrooper eight days ago in Toulouse.

In Monday's attack, the killer also used a .35-caliber gun, the police official said. At least 15 shots were fired at the school in a residential neighborhood in northeastern Toulouse, the official said. The official, based in Paris, was not authorized to speak publicly and asked that he not be identified by name.

French prosecutors were studying possible terrorist links but the motive for all three attacks was unclear. The emotion over the school attack that cut down young children prompted high-level discussions in Israel, where the rabbi had recently lived.

"This is a day of national tragedy because children were killed in cold blood," President Nicolas Sarkozy said after rushing to Toulouse.

Religious minorities and issues of race have emerged as a prominent issue in France's current presidential campaign.

Sarkozy, speaking in Toulouse, denounced "the savagery" of the attack and vowing to track down the killer or killers.

"We will find him," he said.

Sarkozy ordered increased security at Jewish and Muslim buildings around Toulouse, while his prime minister told officials to "secure" all school and religious buildings in the entire country.

Sarkozy's challengers for the presidential vote in April and May also rushed to the scene.

French victims in the Jewish school attack are buried in Israel

Three children and their teacher who were killed this week during the shooting attack on their Jewish school in Toulouse, France, were buried in Jerusalem Wednesday.

Jonathan Sandler, 30, a rabbi and teacher at Ozar Hatorah Jewish school, his two sons Gabriel, 3, and Arieh, 6, and Miriam Monsonego, 7, the daughter of the school's principal, were buried at Givat Shaul's Har Hamenuchot cemetery in Jerusalem Wednesday morning, surrounded by thousands of mourners.

French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe, who accompanied the victims and their families on the flight to Israel, spoke at the somber ceremony. "France will do everything to ensure nothing like this unbelievable tragedy ever happens again," Juppe said, the Jerusalem Post reported. "France will not tolerate terror."

As the funeral was under way, elite French counter terrorism police were surrounding a residential building in northern Toulouse where the suspected perpetrator of the killings, Mohammed Merah, was barricaded. Merah is described as a 23-year-old Frenchman of Algerian descent who has traveled to Afghanistan and Pakistan, served time for non-terrorism related offenses in French prison, and has reportedly professed allegiance to al-Qaida.

At least five poeople are dead after a gunman opened fire at Oikos University, a Christian school in Oakland, Calif., this morning.

According to police the gunman fired multiple shots in the school at 10:33 a.m. Police have not said how many people were killed or wounded, but aerial video from the scen shows five bodies laid out under sheets on the school lawn.

Police described the suspect as an Asian male, 5-foot-9, wearing tan pants, according ABC station KGO-TV in San Francisco.

Although police have reportedly detained one person, it is unclear if that person was the gunman or if there was a continued threat on campus.

NFL's Junior Seau dead at 43

Once again the phones started to ring, former San Diego Chargers from the franchise's lone Super Bowl team calling each other and digesting the news that another one of them was gone. With word that Junior Seau died Wednesday, the number of Chargers who played in the Super Bowl on Jan. 29, 1995, and are now dead, is eight.
 
Eight in 18 years; too many in too little time.

The subject is one I discussed, somewhat uncomfortably, with several of the former Chargers in 2008. This wasn't long after Chris Mims, their gregarious defensive end, was found dead in his Los Angeles apartment. Five had died back then. And that seemed like a lot.

I called a professor of actuarial science at the University of Wisconsin to see if she could put number on five men from a 53-man roster – all in their 20s and 30s – dying in so short a time. She said the odds were less than 1 percent.

In the resulting story that ran in The Washington Post, many former players and coaches talked about emotions that ranged from sadness for former players who were no longer there to a looming sense of unease about the uncontrollable.

"Is this a curse or something?" center Courtney Hall said then. "I just hope I'm not next."

On Wednesday, Hall sounded drained. Hours of phone calls with teammates had tired him. And there lingered that sense of confusion over how so many men who would be in their 40s, who seemed so vibrant, are no longer alive.

"I'm still kind of processing everything right now," Hall said. "I had more to say back [in 2008] than I do now. I really am at a loss for words."

The unsettling thing about the Chargers' deaths is their randomness. Five months after the Super Bowl, running back David Griggs died in a car accident on an off-ramp of the Florida Turnpike that was no more than 10 minutes from where the game had been played at Joe Robbie Stadium. The next year, running back Rodney Culver and his wife died on a ValuJet crash in the Florida Everglades, also not far from Miami. In 1998 linebacker Doug Miller was struck twice by lightning while camping in Colorado. Backup center Curtis Whitley died of a drug overdose in 2008 only months before Mims died from an enlarged heart and heart disease. Linebacker Lew Bush and defensive tackle Shawn Lee had fatal heart attacks last year.

And now Seau. The irony is that as a player he might have been the liveliest of them all – the first one to laugh, the one with the biggest smile, the biggest star – and to hear reports he had killed himself? It didn't make sense.

"The thing I related to everybody is that we are a brotherhood of those of us who played football," Hall said Wednesday. "We developed bonds and dealt with the same issues and the same ups and downs. For me, I've gotten to the point where I wish we as a group of elite athletes are able to reach out to each other more and are able to talk about what's going on in our lives."

Back in 2008, Hall talked about looking for some of his Chargers teammates. He found tight end Deems May on LinkedIn and asked the team for the phone numbers of other former players. Some of those may have been the same men he spoke with Wednesday.

Perhaps there's nothing anyone can do about a plane crash or someone getting hit by lightning twice, but so many of the other deaths seemed preventable. Tackle Stan Brock wondered in 2008 how Whitley could die alone in a trailer. "Where were his friends?" he asked. Mims suffered from weight problems and became depressed before his death. Lee was reported to have had weight and other health issues when he died.

Could phone calls have helped? Should they have been calling Seau and checking on him? Hall wonders. He said several of his teammates did too.

"In general we talked about getting together and reaching out to one another," he said. "I woke up this morning in pain [from old football injuries]. Everyone deals with everything differently."

He seemed to hope this latest bad news would bring them closer together.

Whenever players from the Super Bowl team talk about that season they always marvel at the magic they felt. They describe the locker-room camaraderie as the best they were ever around. Players stayed late at the practice facility. They ordered food. They arrived at the stadium early on home game days, throwing on their uniform pants and pads, then sitting in a room just off the stadium locker room playing Mortal Kombat and Madden NFL until they had to go onto the field for warmups.

It was a happy time. It was a wonderful time. It was the best time many of them ever had.

Then Wednesday they mourned another of them, the biggest name of them all.

And like with the others, it's too soon.

WOW! I had no idea about all this. That is strange, real strange. I'm sure the other team members are getting a little nervous!

Was watching just a few minutes of CNN today, and they showed coverage of this - the guy on there said that b/c Seau suffered alot of head injuries in his long career, he got long-term brain damage. So ultimately, it was as if Seau shot himself in the chest b/c his brain couldn't function anymore ???

Of course, nothing makes sense in this fallen world - they do a good job in spinning things to make them sound real.

Assuming we're here 2 years from now, don't be surprised to see the NFL being flag football(with the OLs hands tied behind their backs).

Well, the gunshot thing is if he donated his brain to research. They wouldn't want it if it's ripped up with a gunshot.

Ohio woman charged with murder in bizarre stabbing

CLEVELAND (AP) — A Cleveland woman was charged with murder Saturday in the stabbing death of her best friend, who tried to drive away afterward and fatally struck the accused woman's 2-year-old daughter, police said.

The two women were sitting in a running parked car Thursday when they got into an argument, police said. Kimberly Black left the vehicle, went into her house, returned with a knife and stabbed Sharice Swain in the face and neck, said Sgt. Sammy Morris, a police spokesman.

The wounded Swain then stepped on the gas pedal and hit Black's two young children, who were standing near the car. Two-year-old Kimshia Ruffin was killed, and her 1-year-old sister, Taraji Ruffin, was struck, but her injuries were not considering life-threatening, police said.

Black, 29, was found naked several blocks away and arrested Thursday night. She has been in custody since and wasn't available to comment. It wasn't clear whether she has an attorney.

Black is due in court Monday morning.

Police have not said what started the argument.

It also wasn't clear whether Swain, 29, hit the children intentionally or accidentally. Neighbors who went to the aid of Sharice Swain after she was stabbed think Black was the intended target of the revving vehicle, said Nikki Randall, 30, whose daughter goes to school with Black's 6-year-old daughter.

"It was on purpose," Randall said. "She was actually trying to hit the mama."

The car also struck a house, collapsing the roof of the porch.

The women had been "best friends since birth" and Swain considered Black a cousin, according to the victim's mother, Anita Swain. She said she didn't know what started the argument and declined to comment further.

Black was arrested less than a block away from the location of the now-demolished house where the remains of 11 murdered women were found in 2009. The killer, Anthony Sowell, is appealing his murder conviction and death sentence.

Miami Police Shoot, Kill Man Eating Another Man’s Face


Miami police shot and killed a man on the MacArthur Causeway Saturday afternoon, and police sources told CBS4 they had no choice: the naked man they shot was trying to chew the face off another naked man, and refused to obey police orders to stop his grisly meal.

The bizarre shooting happened shortly after 2 p.m., when police responded to a 911 call about two naked men fighting on a bike path along the Causeway, which was packed with traffic on a busy holiday weekend.

Miami police have not confirmed the details of what happened next, but sources close to the investigation told CBS4 News that officers found one man gnawing on the face of another, in what one police source called the most gruesome thing he’d ever seen.

The fight was taking place at the causeway exit near the Miami Herald building, and amazed officers tried to stop it, ordering the man making a meal out of the other man to stop.

Sources told CBS4 that the man refused to obey, and continued his attack. Investigators sharing limited details about the confrontation, saying only that the two men were fighting and the officers felt they had no choice but to take deadly force.

“During this confrontation an officer did discharge his weapon striking one of the individuals, said Det. Willie Moreno, spokesperson for Miami Police.

But the sources close to the investigation say that dry recitation of the facts apparently doesn’t go far enough. They said the man still would not give in to police commands, so officers fired again.

“That individual has lost his life right now,” Moreno said.

With the attacker dead, lying **** on the pavement, officers and paramedics were able to get to his victim and rush him to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Police sources say the man had virtually no face and was unrecognizable.

Police have shared no information about his identity or condition.

Once the bizarre confrontation came to an end, police were left with the task of figuring out what had happened. The investigation forced the closure of the causeway from Miami Beach to Miami, and also closed an exit to the causeway from I-95.

The investigation snarled traffic for hours and delayed thousands of motorists until ways could be found to get them off the causeway.

Police have had little official to say about the details, and have not released the name of the cannibalistic attacker.

A man who stabbed himself and threw pieces of his skin and intestines at police officers trying to subdue him was hospitalized in critical condition on Monday, authorities said.

Officers encountered 43-year-old Wayne Carter on Sunday morning when they responded to reports of a man barricaded in a room in Hackensack and threatening to harm himself, Lt. John Heinemann said.

Two officers kicked in the door and saw Carter in a corner, holding a knife in his hand, police said. Carter, ignoring the officers’ orders to drop the knife, stood up and stabbed himself in the abdomen, legs and neck, they said.

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Several people were shot at an apartment complex near Auburn University in Alabama when a fight broke out during a pool party, authorities and a witness said.

Auburn Police Chief Tommy Dawson told the Opelika-Auburn News that police were called Saturday night. He did not say who was shot or discuss their conditions.

Turquorius Vines, 23, said he was at the pool party Saturday evening at the University Heights apartments with one of his friends. He said he and his friend were approached by two other men who started arguing with them over a woman.

Vines said he punched one of the men, while his friend hit both of the men over the head with a bottle. Either one or both of the two men then started shooting, he said. He said his friend was shot and killed, while two others also were hit by gunfire. Vines said he had never before seen the men who he had been arguing with.

Hitchhiker Writing 'Kindness' Book Shot in Montana

A West Virginia man who is hitchhiking across the country and writing a memoir called "The Kindness of America" was injured in a random, drive-by shooting in northeastern Montana, according to authorities.

Valley County Sheriff Glen Meier said Raymond Dolin, 39, was sitting on the side of U.S. Highway 2 west of Glasgow waiting for a ride at about 6 p.m. Saturday when a man drove up in a maroon pickup, rolled down his window, shot him and drove off.

Dolin flagged down a passer-by and was taken to the hospital in Glasgow with non-life threatening injuries. Hospital officials did not immediately return a phone call Monday seeking an update on his condition.

Dolin said the shooter headed west, but officers learned he asked someone for directions and turned around and headed east on his way to Williston, N.D.

The suspected shooter — 52-year-old Charles Lloyd Danielson III — was arrested in Culbertson, about 100 miles east of Glasgow, about four hours after the shooting.

Meier said it appears Danielson is from Washington state and was on his way to North Dakota to look for work. He said there did not appear to be any connection between Dolin and Danielson.

"It's totally random," he said. "These two gentlemen did not know each other. They'd never seen each other and we don't know of a motive. We don't know why this happened."

Meier says Danielson was jailed in Roosevelt County on suspicion of felony assault with a weapon and driving under the influence and was expected to appear in court Monday.

Violent crime dropped in 2011, but murders in small towns spiked, FBI says

Violent crime dropped in 2011, preliminary figures released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Monday show.
 
According to the FBI's "Preliminary Annual Uniform Crime Report," violent crimes fell 4 percent nationwide, part of a decade-plus decline in that category.
 
Murder was down about 2 percent, according to the FBI, while forcible ****, robbery and aggravated assault all fell 4.0 percent when compared to 2010. But in towns with populations of less than 10,000, there was an 18.3 percent increase in murder in 2011. There was also a 0.6 percent increase in murder in the Midwest.
 
The FBI did not give reasons for the trends.
 
Property crimes declined about 1 percent. Arson—which is considered a property crime though counted separately—fell 5 percent, the FBI said. The only overall rise in property crimes was burglary, which was up marginally.
 
Data for the report is collected by the bureau from participating state and federal law enforcement agencies. Final figures will be published this fall.

Cops: Bronx Boy, 8, Slashes Fellow Student, 9, With Blade During Fight At P.S. 132
Parents Say Kids As Young As 6 Feel The Need To Protect Themselves

An 8-year-old Bronx schoolboy was arrested Tuesday after being accused of slashing a 9-year-old with a double-edged razor blade during a lunchtime altercation.

The incident took place at P.S. 132 in the Morrisania section of the borough. The blade was recovered in the school’s playground, police said.

School officials said the two male students exchanged words before the younger one used a razor to slash the other in the neck. The wound required stitches at Bronx Lebanon Hospital.

One parent who spoke with 1010 WINS’ Al Jones said she was not surprised about the incident involving such young children.

“It’s more than that. I hear a lot going on — even 6-year-olds, 7-year-olds — learning from the oldest,” she said.

The boy accused in the slashing apparently told police that he brings the blade to school because some kids don’t like him.

Despite what happened, one 10-year-old student at the school said P.S. 132 isn’t that bad.

“I feel safe and all that — for an 8-year-old to get slit, I don’t think that’s OK,” the boy said.

The 8-year-old is being charged as a juvenile. He faces assault and weapons possession charges and his case will be heard in family court.

The alleged slashing isn’t the first trouble at the school.

It is the same school where the principal cancelled fifth grade graduation earlier in the month because of bad behavior.

Prior to the events of 9/11, when these acts would occur, almost immediately pro-family/pro-media watchdog groups would call out "violence in the media". It wasn't just after Columbine, but numerous other acts as well.

Now? Bicyclist Allegedly Attacked by Frozen Sausage-Wielding Thief

The alleged victim told cops that his attacker swung frozen sausage links at him before hitting him in the head with a wrench

A Massachusetts man has pleaded not guilty to attacking a bicyclist with sausage links and a wrench before making off with jewelry and the bike.

Michael Baker, of Holbrook, was arraigned Monday on charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the Sunday morning attack. The Enterprise of Brockton reports that Baker's lawyer says his client was trying to defend himself from the alleged victim. Bail was set at $1,000.

The bicyclist tells police the assailant swung the string of sausage links at him before hitting him with the wrench.

Police say Baker was caught a short time later with the bike and a wrench. Police later found that sausages and other food had been stolen from a food stand at the Brockton Fairgrounds.

James Holmes Is Not Alone - 20 More Examples Of The Sickos That Are Overrunning America

There is much more to the collapse of America than just our economic problems.  The truth is that the United States is like a beautiful house that may still look great on the outside but that has rotted and decayed very badly on the inside.  In fact, the foundations of our country have rotted away so badly that our entire society is starting to collapse.  Just look at James Holmes.  It would be great if we could honestly say that James Holmes is an aberration, but we all know better than that.  James Holmes is not alone.  The cold, hard reality of the matter is that our degenerate society regularly produces sickos and monsters like James Holmes.  As I wrote about the other day, we lead the world in a whole host of bad categories.  We lead the world in child abuse, we lead the world in divorce, we lead the world in teen pregnancy and we lead the world in drug addiction.  The basic building blocks of society that tie us together and help keep us grounded (such as the family) are breaking down, but we still seem surprised that we have hordes of "lone wolf individuals" running around doing crazy things.  We are a sick, twisted society that is producing sick, twisted individuals.  If we do not admit how deep our problems really are, then we are never going to find any real solutions and we are going to keep being shocked when another James Holmes pops on to the scene.

Why didn't this type of thing happen back in the 1950s?

Why are our young people so violent and so mentally unstable?

What has changed?

Those are some very important questions.  But most Americans will forget this incident very quickly and they will move on with their self-absorbed lives.

But there is so much about this shooting that calls for further examination.

What would make a highly educated 24 year old man do something so incredibly evil?

Why are so many young people suddenly "snapping" these days?

As our society continues to decay, how much worse are things going to get?

It is almost to the point where people are going to start becoming afraid of gathering in public places.

Most Americans never would have imagined that it would be dangerous to go to the movie theater.

But now people are going to look at going to the movies much differently.

And could it have been possible that James Holmes had some help?

There are some important questions that the media is not really focusing on in this case....

-How did an impoverished college student put together an arsenal of weapons, ammunition and body armor worth tens of thousands of dollars?

-Why do some eyewitnesses claim that he had at least one other person assisting him?

-Why did he surrender to police without offering any resistance whatsoever?

It would be great if we could get some answers to those questions.

In any event, this is yet another sign of how far our society has fallen.  We are becoming more sick and more twisted with each passing day, and it is time to admit this fact.

Eugene police said Thursday they arrested Antone Forrest Deedward Owens on charges of burglary, menacing and coercion. Authorities say he broke into at least three homes since last September, sometimes entering the same home on multiple occasions.

In the end, Jerry Sandusky was found guilty of 45 counts of sexually abusing young boys.  He has become a national symbol of the depravity which is rotting away the very heart of this nation.

According to one West Virginia news source, that is exactly what one man down in West Virginia did....

Earlier this month, Lizon was arrested after police say he kept his wife, Stephanie, chained up for nearly a decade in their home along Miller Hollow Road in Leroy, W.Va.

Lizon is accused of smashing Stephanie's feet with farm equipment and hitting her with a hot frying pan.

Police say she also had a miscarriage because of the abuse and was forced to have another baby while still chained.

Dattilo, a 12-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, is reportedly in custody at the Bucks County prison on $500,000 bail.

“She didn’t apologize. She started laughing. I was on my hands and knees picking up bone fragments. I couldn’t pick up all, everything that was lost. I mean, there was a long line behind me.”

A 22-year-old pregnant woman survived after being bound, driven to Detroit, set on fire and shot early Saturday morning.

The woman, who was nine-months pregnant, had returned from a movie with her boyfriend and dropped him off at his house in Warren when she was approached from behind, Warren police Sgt. Dave Geffert said.

The woman's hands, feet and eyes were bound with duct tape. She was then forced into her car and driven to an unknown place in Detroit where she was doused with lighter fluid, set on fire and shot once in the upper back, he said.

A New Jersey man allegedly cut out his entrails in front of police and then threw bits of his flesh and intestines at them.

The gruesome scene played out at a home in Hackensack, N.J., where 43-year-old Wayne Carter allegedly barricaded himself in on Sunday, NBC New York reported.

Officers got a call that morning when a witness said Carter was threatening to harm himself with a knife. Two cops responded, kicked in the door and found Carter in the corner, the station reported.

Carter allegedly ignored officers' orders to put down the knife, and instead began stabbing himself in the abdomen, neck and legs.

Andrew Carreiro, 25, is behind bars accused of killing the 62-year-old woman who cleans rooms at the Hacienda Inn on the 600 block of West 11th Street.

Witnesses say they found Carreiro covered in blood and standing near the partially naked body of the woman, say witnesses.

“[It’s] most definitely the craziest thing I’ve seen in my life, most definitely,” said Jermaine Haynes, a motel resident who made the gruesome discovery.

'Spell said Waters got into the back seat with the female and "choked her out",' the affidavit states.

After dropping Arnold's body in a rural area of North Dakota later that night, Waters bought a shovel at a nearby Walmart. They buried the body in a two- to three-feet-deep hole on an old farmstead.

Oro Valley Police picked up Melissa Dalton April 30th booking her on four counts of sexual conduct with a minor.

She posted bail and got out the next day.

Subsequently more Ironwood Ridge students came forward with more allegations. That prompted the Oro Valley Police Department to add eight more counts including six of sex with a minor.

Melissa Dalton was in her first year teaching at Ironwood Ridge High School. The 33 year old is a wife and mother.

The nightmares that were happening in one quiet house in Texas are so horrifying that it is hard to find the words to describe them.

Texas authorities said Tuesday they removed 11 children from a crowded home where a registered sex offender lives after they found eight confined in a small, dark bedroom with restraints tying some to their beds.

Along with the children, 10 adults were living in the one-story, 1,700-square-foot home in Dayton, about 30 miles northeast of Houston, Child Protective Services spokeswoman Gwen Carter said. One month after a raid on the house, authorities are still trying to determine how the children are related and why they were there, she said.
#20 Florida Man Bites The Lips Off Of A Kitten

What kind of a monster would bite the lips off of a kitten?

It is hard to imagine anyone actually doing such a thing, but according to WKMG this apparently happened....

A Palm Coast man was arrested on suspicion of biting the lips off a kitten and strangling another cat.

Angel Vega Roman, 28, was arrested Saturday and charged with cruelty to animals.

According to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, Roman told an acquaintance that he accidentally choked his roommates' kitten a couple of weeks ago and bit the lips off another black and white kitten named Oreo.  Roman also tortured Oreo by burning its ear and whiskers with a lighter, a sheriff's report stated.
I know that I used a lot of disturbing examples in this article, but I wanted to make my point very strongly.

James Holmes is not an isolated case.  America is literally being overrun by sickos and monsters.

In the old days, our societal institutions were strong and they helped to tie us together.

But today there is very, very little that ties us together and keeps us grounded.  Faith in almost every major institution in society is very low and our families are falling apart.

The percentage of adult Americans that are married right now is at an all-time low.  The percentage of Americans with no religious affiliation at all is at an all-time high.

Our society is rotting from the inside out and many of our formerly great cities are degenerating into absolute hellholes.

Fixing America is not just a matter of fixing our economic system or our political system.

Fixing America is going to take a whole lot more than that.

Just to throw in the violence in the media angle - it seems like numerous of the current "PG-13" movies are just as violent and immoral, if not more violent and immoral than some of the 1980's "R" rated violent and immoral movies like "Beverly Hills Cop", "Rambo", "Total Recall", etc.(ie-"Hunger Games", "Dark Knight Rises", etc)

I remember back then - parents and guardians would do their best to stand firm and put their feet down when it came to these movies. Now? It just seems like violence and immorality in our culture is acceptable.

Hhhhmmm....I wonder where all the outrage is from John McCain, Joe Lieberman, Tipper Gore, Henry Hyde, Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, and all of these pro-family groups in our present day over this?

Flash Mob Crimes And Organized Looting Have Become A Normal Part Of Life In America

Once upon a time, most Americans had never even heard of "flash mob robberies" or "organized looting".  Now they are considered to be a part of normal life in America.  On Saturday, more than 20 teens stormed into a trendy clothing store in Chicago and stole more than $3,000 worth of jeans, but it barely made a blip on the national news because this kind of thing has become so common.  After all, we just saw the exact same kind of thing happen in Jacksonville, Detroit, Baltimore and a whole bunch of other places.  Flash mob crimes have become so common in Chicago that they take public opinion polls about them.  But when I first started writing about this phenomenon a couple of years ago, hardly anyone knew what "mob robberies" were.  In fact, I had to explain what these "flash mobs" were doing to a couple of radio hosts because they had never heard of such a thing.  But now everybody knows about the flash mobs.  Another disturbing trend that we are seeing all over America is "organized looting".  Groups of desperate criminals are going into empty or abandoned buildings and stripping out copper wire, copper pipes and anything else that they can sell for money.  At one time these kinds of thefts made the news, but now they have also become so common that they don't get much notice anymore.

The sad truth is that the streets of America are changing.  They are becoming a lot more hostile and a lot more dangerous.

Young people in America today do not have respect for authority, they do not have respect for those that are older than them and they do not even have respect for themselves.

Posted below is surveillance camera footage of the mob robbery mentioned above during which thousands of dollars worth of jeans were stolen.  These kids obviously plotted to commit this crime well in advance.  These kids have so little respect for themselves that they are willing to potentially jeopardize their futures over a few pairs of lousy jeans....

Will any of those kids go to jail eventually?

That is a very good question.

In other areas of the country, law enforcement is so overwhelmed that they just let cases such as this one go.

For example, the CBS affiliate in Baltimore recently reported on a mob robbery in the Baltimore area where officials decided not to pursue criminal charges....

After reviewing the surveillance video, the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s office opted not to pursue criminal charges in the case saying not every conflict warrants them.

What happened here is not an isolated incident. It’s happening more and more across Maryland and it’s a real source of frustration for law enforcement.
A similar incident happened last month at the 7-Eleven on Liberty Road in Baltimore County. And mobs of teens have looted several stores like the one in Montgomery County, stealing hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise.

And word on the street spreads fast.  Once kids realize that they can get away with this kind of behavior it will just encourage more of it.

Sadly, it is not just our young men that are acting this way.  Our young women are also banding together in mobs and are doing crazy things.

A wolf pack of drunken young women “acting stupid” on a downtown No. 6 train in Manhattan stabbed a 63-year-old man early today — for having had the nerve to ask them to pipe down, police said.

The man was on his way to work at about 6:15 a.m. when he was attacked as the train entered the East 23rd Street station, a law-enforcement source told The Post.

“The eight females were acting stupid. He just told them, ‘Relax. Calm down,’ ” another source said.

What in the world is happening to us?

Part of it can perhaps be explained by the rampant growth of gangs in America.

Today, there are approximately 1.4 million gang members living inside the United States.  That number has risen by 40 percent just since 2009.

Often these gangs take the place of the family unit.  With so many broken families in America today, there are literally millions of young people that are looking for someone to accept them and take care of them.

Another factor is economic desperation.  There are far more workers than there are jobs in America today, and an increasing number of Americans are turning to crime in an attempt to survive.

Right now we are seeing an unprecedented epidemic of "organized looting" all over the country.  A recent article by Victor Davis Hanson talked about the epidemic of copper wire theft that is happening down where he lives in California....

Protection is found only in self-help. To stop the Road Warriors from stripping the copper cable from your pump or the community’s street lights, civilization is encouraged to put in a video camera, more lighting, more encasement, a wire protective mesh — all based on the premise that the authorities cannot stop the thieves and your livelihood is predicated on the ingenuity of your own counter-terrorism protocols. But the thief is always the wiser: he calculates the cost of anti-theft measures, as well as the state’s bill in arresting, trying, and rehabilitating him, and so wagers that it is cheaper for all of us to let him be and just clean up his mess.

I found it particularly interesting what Victor Davis Hanson is doing in response to the decay of society that he is witnessing all around him....

I find myself insidiously adopting the Road Warrior survival code. Without any systematic design, I notice that in the last two years I have put a hand pump on my grandfather’s abandoned well in the yard and can pump fresh water without electricity. I put in an outdoor kitchen, tied into a 300-gallon propane tank, that can fuel a year of cooking. I am getting more dogs (all vaccinated and caged); for the first time in my life I inventoried all my ancestors’ guns in all the closets and found shotguns, deer rifles, .22s etc.

I have an extra used pickup I chose not to sell always gassed in the garage. For all sorts of scrapes and minor injuries, sprains, simple finger fractures, etc., I self-treat — anything to avoid going into the local emergency room (reader, you will too, when Obamacare kicks in). And the more I talk to neighbors, the more I notice that those who stayed around are sort of ready for our Road Warrior world. At night if I happen to hear Barack Obama on the news or read the latest communiqué from Jerry Brown, the world they pontificate about in no way resembles the world I see: not the freeways, not the medical system, not the educational establishment, not law enforcement, not the “diversity,” not anything.

I would say that it sounds like Victor Davis Hanson is rapidly turning into a prepper.

Not that I blame him of course.

We all want our homes to feel safe and secure.  As society crumbles, it is only natural to pay more attention to preparation and security.

The sad truth is that these criminals are becoming bolder and bolder.  Over the past couple of years we have seen some very shocking home invasion crimes happen all over the country, and this trend is only going to get worse.

But these days the news is not going to really feature a crime unless it is truly horrific.

That is where a sicko like James Holmes comes in.

Criminals understand that if they want to become really famous that they are going to have to do something really violent or really bizarre to stand out from the crowd.

And America is absolutely crawling with psychos these days, so it can be difficult to truly make a name for yourself if you are a criminal.

Sadly, we are already starting to see some potential "James Holmes copycats" come out of the woodwork.

For example, just check out what happened in Oklahoma recently....

An Oklahoma high school student is behind bars after a cab driver reported hearing him plotting a Columbine-shooting at his school, police said.

Timmy Eike, 18, was arrested on Tuesday after police found a shotgun, rifle and 250 rounds of ammunition in his bedroom.

The teenager’s arrest came a day after gunman James Holmes appeared in a Colorado court accused of killing 12 people and injuring 58 during a midnight screening of the Batman movie.

That is very disturbing.

I don't know about you, but I am a lot more hesitant to visit the movie theater now, and I sure am glad that I do not have any kids in public schools.

In a world that is going totally crazy, public gatherings are never going to feel quite as safe ever again.

Completely Surrounded By Psychopaths And Sociopaths As We Approach The Edge Of Societal Collapse

Do you remember when America was a place where you could attend a public gathering without having to worry if a sociopath was going to set off a bomb or start wildly shooting people?  Do you remember when America was a place where you could walk down the street without having to worry that a vicious pack of teens might attack you for no reason whatsoever?  Do you remember when America was a place where you could leave your car unlocked, your house unlocked and your garage open without having to worry about thieves?  Well, only old timers are likely to remember a time when you could leave your front door unlocked, but it was once like that in America.  Over the past 50 years America has fundamentally changed.  Once upon a time you could trust just about everybody, but these days it is difficult to find anyone that you can truly trust.  We are literally surrounded by psychopaths and sociopaths as we approach the edge of societal collapse.  The truly frightening thing is that we are watching society break down rapidly even though economic conditions are still relatively good.  If this is how bad things are right now, what are they going to look like after the economy collapses and people become really desperate?

I was enjoying a peaceful morning today until I came across this headline: "7 dead, including shooter, at Wisconsin Sikh temple".

What kind of a person does such a thing?

So far there does not appear to be any motive for the shooting.  These were people that were just peacefully gathering at a Sikh Temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin on Sunday morning.  They weren't bothering anyone.

But some very twisted individual decided to walk in there and start randomly shooting people.

The mainstream media is describing the shooter as "a white male in his 30s".

By the time it was all over, seven people (including the shooter) ended up dead and three others were wounded.

But this was not the only incredibly shocking incident in the news today.

Also on Sunday, a man walked into an ICU at one hospital in Ohio, pulled out a gun and shot his wife of 45 years.

Who does that?

Who would walk into a hospital and shoot someone that you have been married to for 45 years?

Of course the mainstream media is going to use examples such as these as reasons why we need to ban guns.  But as I wrote about the other day, the truth is that guns actually help prevent crime.  U.S. cities with the strictest gun control laws also have some of the highest rates of gun violence.  The criminals are always going to be able to get guns.

However, when it comes to mass murder there is a common thread among the major cases that we have seen in recent years that has nothing to do with guns at all.

The mainstream media does not talk about it, but the truth is that mass murderers are almost always found to be on legal drugs of one kind or another.

Many of these drugs can cause otherwise "normal" people to become raging psychopaths.  But the mainstream media is not going to talk about this because the drug companies spend billions of dollars advertising on their networks.

Other times it is illegal drugs that are causing people to go crazy.  Just check out what happened in Detroit the other day....

    A 17-year-old boy was arrested after police found him lying completely naked in the middle of a street while apparently high on LSD. Police said the boy also jumped on the hood of their patrol car and broke out the windshield with his fists.

Even when they are not on drugs, the young people of America just seem to be getting wilder and wilder.  Recently I wrote about all of the flash mob crimes that we are seeing all over the country.  Groups of young people are banding together and invading retail stores for some "organized looting".  These young people seem to have absolutely no concern for how their actions will affect the people that they are stealing from.

It seems like hearts are going cold all over the United States.  Psychology has all kinds of fancy names for this, but on a very basic level our empathy for others is rapidly disappearing.

According to dictionary.com, a psychopath is "a person with a psychopathic personality, which manifests as amoral and antisocial behavior, lack of ability to love or establish meaningful personal relationships, extreme egocentricity, failure to learn from experience, etc."

Doesn't that sound like a lot of people out there on the streets of America today?

Sadly, this even includes those that are considered to be among "the elite".

For example, it is has been estimated that one out of every ten Wall Street employees is a psychopath.

According to dictionary.com, a sociopath is "a person with a psychopathic personality whose behavior is antisocial, often criminal, and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience."

Often sociopaths will do things to other people or to animals without any concern for the pain they are causing.

In a previous article I wrote about a man that recently bit the lips off of a kitten.  This would be one example of a sociopath.

It has been estimated that there are 12 million sociopaths in the United States today.

That is only a small percentage of the population, but you never know who they are.

Once the percentage of crazy people becomes high enough in a community, it becomes very difficult to trust anyone.

Meanwhile, many of our greatest cities are degenerating into crime-infested war zones.  The city center of Detroit has become a place where people dump dead bodies.  The following is from a recent Fox News article....

    From the street, the two decomposing bodies were nearly invisible, concealed in an overgrown lot alongside worn-out car tires and a moldy sofa. The teenagers had been shot, stripped to their underwear and left on a deserted block.

    They were just the latest victims of foul play whose remains went undiscovered for days after being hidden deep inside Detroit's vast urban wilderness -- a crumbling wasteland rarely visited by outsiders and infrequently patrolled by police.

    Abandoned and neglected parts of the city are quickly becoming dumping grounds for the dead -- at least a dozen bodies in 12 months' time. And authorities acknowledge there's little they can do.

But it isn't just our major cities that are degenerating.

All over America rural communities are falling apart as well.

Crime has drastically increased in our little rural community in the last few years.

While there has always been the occasional theft, kids breaking in vacant houses, things picked up lying in the yard - recently theft has become bold, blatant and aggressive.

Middle of the day break-ins, multiple thieves in a trucks pulling trailers, organized crime targeting places of business and homes for high grade picking.

Taking the time to look at items and only take the best/most expensive.

We suffered a crippling hit a few months ago.

I worked until around 9:30-10 Friday night, and Saturday morning my tools and equipment were gone. Footprints, fingerprints, a neighbor saw the guys and pickup truck - but the sheriff's department can't afford the resources to track them down (by comparison it's not a violent/murder case or a $40k vehicle...) I have a security camera on the front gate, and they avoided that by a 100 foot radius - dragging everything across a fence and down into a ditch on the other side of the property.

The day before another neighbor literally met and passed by people that had just robbed his farm, on his way back from the store, less than a mile from his house - he recognized his stuff on the back of their trailer. This was in the middle of the day. His gate was locked - but they drove through the ditch and around a field to get to his house.

A local truck repair shop has been in business for 3 generations, and until a few weeks ago had never been robbed. They are on the main street of a little town, and live right behind the shop. The front door of the shop is about 30 feet back from the main street. The thieves parked in FRONT, and loaded up his equipment.

Another big shop was hit on a Saturday morning - main street going into town - they loaded up everything right out the front door, with people seeing them, hundreds of cars driving by... They have bolt cutters, whatever it takes to break in...

Another older shop had a heavy wood door with a metal hasp - they CHOPPED THROUGH THE DOOR WITH AN AXE to cut out the metal hasp. A house is 100 feet from this shop.

We live in Georgia, south of Atlanta, and theft has become so bad, the state recently required all scrap yards to take pictures of everything brought in, with a picture of who brought it, a copy of their drivers license, and their tag number. If it is air conditioning/heating equipment (bigger than a window unit) you must have a commercial heating/ac license or a new equipment bill of sale. People were ripping the copper ground wires off the sides of power poles and tearing wires off the poles for scrap.

A local gas station/restaurant had their AC equipment stolen so many times, they had to build a chain link locked enclosure around all the equipment. You can see it from the main street - out in plain view.

Down our street last year was a home invasion.

Two driveways down, back in the woods - a drug cartel rented the house and had it set up for growing drugs in the basement. They got caught because the power meter was jumpered.

Another neighbor a couple miles down the road found a crack lab down in the woods next to a creek. I've personally called in 2 robberies/break-ins in the last year (the second set were caught and went to prison).

Our church pianist stopped at a downtown ATM and was almost mugged, but an off duty officer passing by stopped them. In the following couple of weeks there were 3 armed robberies/shootings in our town.

To put this all in perspective - my grandparents never locked their doors. They normally left the keys in all the vehicles (so they wouldn't get lost, and was more convenient).

I don't think the old church even had a lock on the front door.

I feel like we have been protected all these years - but now are forced to make drastic changes for a reason, and for a purpose. It's like the hand of restraint and protection is being lifted from our communities.

The most effective home protection we have right now is 4 outside dogs. All of them bark, and at least two of them will bite.

Right now, things are rough, but they are not really that bad.

The power is still own (not like half of India), Wallyworld still has plenty of food on the shelves, the gas stations have full tanks, all the ATM's, debit card/credit card machines work, and cell phones hardly miss a beat.

If a growing sector of society is already participating in blatant violent in your face crime - what will it be like when things really do get bad?

Constable, civilian, gunman confirmed dead after shooting near Texas A&M campus

COLLEGE STATION, Texas—Three people, including a Brazos County constable, died Monday when a gunman opened fire near the Texas A&M campus in College Station, according to investigators.
The gunman and another civilian were also killed, police said.

A female civilian, 55, was also shot and was rushed to the hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery.  Her condition was not known.

The suspect was shot by responding officers and later pronounced dead. The name of the 35-year-old gunman has not been released.

Police identified Brazos County Precinct One Constable Brian Bachmann, 41, as the officer who died. Investigators said he was the first to arrive on the scene at a house at the corner of Fidelity and Highland.
An employee with Brazos County told WFAA-TV in Dallas that the shooting occurred as an eviction notice was being served, but police did not confirm that.

“An individual was inside the address at the 2211 Fidelity and began taking fire on the officers.  The officers defended themselves and called in additional officers.  Additional officers responded and began trying to handle the situation as best as possible,” said Asst. Chief Scott McCollum, of the College Station Police Department.

At some point, the constable was shot.

“Several of the officers that were responding began CPR on the constable and he was transported to a local hospital,” McCollum said.

The third victim was identified only as a male civilian, believed to be around 65. Police are still trying to confirm his identity and notify his family.

A College Station police officer was shot in the leg and was taken to the hospital in stable condition, McCollum said. Two other officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the shootout.

“It is a tragedy.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those involved and we will do our best to conduct a very thorough and accurate investigation to try and determine exactly why this occurred and provide some answers to the public,” McCollum said.

Texas A&M's emergency website issued a “Code Maroon” alert around 12:29 p.m., telling students and staff to avoid the area near the 200 block of Fidelity Drive, just east of campus. About 15 minutes later, school officials announced that the shooter had been taken into custody.

Texas A&M is the sixth largest university in the nation, with close to 50,000 students enrolled. Freshmen do not move onto campus until August 19 and the first day of the fall semester is August 27.

A fire department spokesman says it received a call about the shooting just after at 9 a.m. Friday and that emergency units were on the scene within minutes.

The spokesman had no information about how many people were wounded or their conditions.

The shooting occurred at 34th Street and Fifth Avenue.

Nineteen people were shot in seven attacks overnight in Chicago, as the US city's gun violence epidemic continued.

Thirteen of the victims were shot within a half-hour period, including eight in a drive-by shooting on a single street.

Chicago officials have been battling a sharp increase in shootings and homicides, with some elected officials arguing gangs do not fear the police.

The city's murder rate has spiked 29% year-over-year as of this month.

By that time in 2011, 270 people had been killed in the city, according to data complied by the local newspaper RedEye Chicago. In 2012, that number is 348.

PERRY HALL, Md. (AP) — A student was shot and critically wounded on the first day of classes at a Baltimore County high school Monday and police said a suspect was quickly taken into custody.
 
County police said the wounded Perry Hall High School student was flown to a hospital. The 17-year-old male student was in critical condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.
 
No one else was reported injured.
 
A male suspect was taken into custody after the shooting, police said. The suspect is a student, but police did not say where he attended school.

Several people have reportedly been killed in a shooting at a mall in Old Bridge, New Jersey in the early hours of Friday morning.

ABC News reports that police responded to shots fired inside the Pathmark, where employees were stocking shelves, at 1043 Route 9 just before 4 a.m.

NBC New York is reporting that the gunman was killed in the shoot out. It is unclear at this time how many other people have died.

Albert Peterson shot dead his wife and two sons hours after going to church because he dreaded the thought of Obama winning the election, a family friend has revealed.

A confidante of the family for the past 25 years has spoken to MailOnline about the strength and grace of the Peterson family, as well as the torment that plagued Albert which drove him to shoot dead his wife Kathleen and his two sons Christopher and Mathew at their suburban home in DC on Sunday.

A history of mental illness, the loss of a dear uncle, and a growing fear of Obama winning a second term in the White House took its toll on the mind of Mr Peterson, a wealthy defense contractor, the friend said.

'He just did not want his kids inheriting this mess,' Maggie L, who did not wish to reveal her last name, told MailOnline. 'Sometimes we thought he might take his own life when he was so depressed. We never thought he would take Kathie's.'

Albert, 57, Kathleen, 52, Matthew, 16, and Christopher, 13, were found Tuesday just after noon inside 13391 Point Rider Lane in Herndon, Virgina. Co-workers reported to police that they were concerned that Mr and Mrs Peterson had not reported to work for the past two days.

Mr Peterson was a defense contractor and Mrs Peterson worked at Blackbird Technologies, a company that specializes in defense, law enforcement and intelligence work.

20 Shocking Examples Of How Sadistic And Cruel People Have Become

How much sicker can people get?  It seems like our world is becoming more sadistic and more cruel with each passing day.  If you doubt this, just keep reading.  Sadly, I could have easily included hundreds more examples just like these.  Changes are happening to our society at a very deep and very fundamental level.  Everywhere you look, hearts are growing colder and it seems like we are completely surrounded by psychopaths and sociopaths.  But if all you do is listen to the mainstream media, you would be tempted to think that we are the smartest, most moral, most “enlightened” generation in all of human history.  Unfortunately, that is most definitely not the case.  Society is literally coming apart at the seams right in front of our eyes.  “Normal” crimes are not enough for many criminals these days.  Murders and rapes have become so common that often they barely get noticed by the newspapers, and so now many criminals seem to have the desire to make their crimes “twisted enough” to get noticed.  In other instances, people are doing really twisted things because they are high on drugs or they are into the occult.  Darkness is spreading, and we can see the evidence all around us.  But until we admit how bad things have really gotten and that what we are doing right now is clearly not working, then we won’t be ready for a solution.

Posted below are 20 examples of how sadistic and cruel people have become.  Please don’t read this list if you have a weak stomach, and please don’t let your young children read it.  I am trying to make it very clear that our society has become very sick, very twisted and very evil and so I have included a number of very graphic examples.  Believe me, the list below could have been even worse.  I decided to leave out some really wicked things that some degenerate parents have done to their own children.  But hopefully the list below will suffice to prove to you that we have a major problem on our hands.  Normal people don’t do these kinds of things…

#1 Down in Florida, authorities recently discovered four cats that had been shoved into sandwich bags and stuffed into a freezer.  Fortunately, three of the cats were still breathing when they were rescued, but the fourth cat did not make it.

#2 Animal welfare workers recently found 11 puppies that were dead and that had been skinned in a park in eastern Pennsylvania.

#3 Down along the Gulf of Mexico, authorities have been coming across a substantial number of dolphins that have “gunshot wounds, cuts and missing jaws“.  Authorities believe that there is a group of people out there on a “rampage” that are involved in mutilating these precious dolphins.

#4 A mother of four teenage children down in Florida shot them a total of 18 times at close range before turning the gun on herself and ending her own life.

#5 Christmas statues of baby Jesus and Joseph were beheaded by vandals in Portland, Oregon the other day.

#6 Down in Texas, one set of parents kept their 10-year-old son locked in a bedroom and only fed him bread and water for months.  Eventually he died of starvation and they dumped his body in a creek.

#7 In the Middle East, cutting out the tongue is increasingly being used as a form of punishment by gangs of Islamic radicals.

#8 The former executive director of a Salvation Army facility in Toronto has been accused of stealing thousands of toys that were intended to be given to little children.

#9 At one high school in California, a number of male students are being accused of participating in a “fantasy **** league” in which they would earn points for “documented engagement in sexual activities with female students”.

#10 Two twin brothers are accused of killing a journalist and encasing his body in concrete just so that they could steal his rare set of game cards.

#11 A pastor in north Texas was recently assaulted by an enraged man who beat him to death with an electric guitar.

#12 A 31-year-old man up in Canada was found guilty of raping an 8-year-old girl, breaking 16 of her bones and smashing her in the face with a hammer.

#13 Some prison inmates in North Carolina are alleging that correctional officers forced them to rub hot sauce on their most private areas.  Authorities are currently investigating these allegations of abuse.

#14 According to the FBI, a New York City police officer is being accused of “planning the kidnap, ****, torture and cannibilization of a number of women”.

#15 A Secret Service officer that had been assigned to protect Joe Biden’s residence has been charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

#16 All over the nation we have been seeing a bizarre string of “zombie attacks”.  The following is one example from Pennsylvania…

    A Doylestown man, who was naked and bleeding profusely, gnawed on woman’s head all while “screaming like an animal” during a wild neighborhood rampage, state police said.

#17 Over in Texas, a very sick 29-year-old man stabbed his girlfriend to death and then burned his one-year-old baby alive because she had gone to court and filed for child support.

#18 A chef that was on trial for killing his wife in California reportedly confessed that he “slow cooked her body then dumped it out as kitchen waste”.

#19 A debt collector recently told a disabled veteran the following…

    “If you would have served our country better you would not be a disabled veteran living off Social Security while the rest of us honest Americans work our asses off”

He also told the veteran that he “should have died”.

#20 Over in Utah, a 21-year-old man is accused of stabbing his grandmother 111 times and then removing her organs with a knife.

Sadly, these are not just isolated incidents.  As I have written about previously, the streets of many of our cities are being transformed into a living hell, and there are a whole bunch of statistics that show that the next generation of Americans is even more messed up than we are.

Even governments are becoming more sadistic and more cruel.  Just check out what is going on in the Netherlands…

    Nuisance neighbours in Amsterdam will be exiled from the city and rehoused in ‘scum villages’ made up of caravans or containers under constant police supervision.

    Holland’s capital already has a special hit squad of municipal officials to identify the worst offenders for a compulsory six month course in how to behave.

    Social housing problem families or tenants who do not show an improvement or refuse to go to the special units face eviction and homelessness.

Can you imagine something like that happening in America?

If you don’t “behave” you get sent off to a “scum village” which is constantly monitored by the authorities?

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) — A man was arrested Saturday after firing about 50 shots in the parking lot of a Southern California shopping mall, prompting a lockdown of stores crowded with holiday shoppers.
 
Marcos Gurrola, 42, of Garden Grove was taken into custody by bicycle police officers patrolling around the open-air Fashion Island mall around 4:30 p.m., police spokeswoman Cathy Lowe said. She said he fired into the air and onto the ground in the parking lot near a Macy's department store.
 
No one was injured, but the gunfire caused panic, coming a day after a gunman killed 26 children and adults at a Connecticut elementary school, and days after a deadly mall shooting in Oregon.
 
The mall was crowded with holiday shoppers and the parking lot was full. Witnesses said they ran, screaming and ducking for cover.
 
"It's a miracle nobody got injured," said Sven Maric, who said he was celebrating his wife's birthday at a restaurant patio about 50 yards away. "The bullets had to land somewhere, and he shot so many."
 
Lowe says some stores voluntarily closed their doors and kept shoppers inside while police investigated.
 
Bret McGaughey, 22, of Laguna Beach, said he was with his mom in the Apple store when shoppers ran to the rear of the store as employees locked the front entrance. He estimated that up to 100 people stayed in the back of the store for about 30 minutes until Apple employees announced that police said it was safe to reopen the doors.
 
Gurrola was arrested for investigation of assault with a deadly weapon, Lowe said.
 
There was no telephone listing for Gurrola.
 
On Tuesday, a gunman at an Oregon shopping mall killed two people and wounded a third amid a holiday crowd estimated at 10,000 people.
 
Clackamas County authorities are still trying to determine why the gunman opened fire before killing himself.
 
The suburban Portland mall was closed for two days before reopening on Friday.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A food fight quickly turned into a brawl involving hundreds of students at a Minneapolis high school on Thursday, forcing police to use chemical spray to break up the melee.
 
Four people were taken to hospitals with minor injuries, including a staff member who was hit in the head with a bottle, according to the school and police.
 
The 15-minute fracas broke out during lunchtime at South High School. No weapons were used, but about 200 to 300 students were involved, Minneapolis police spokesman Sgt. Bill Palmer said.
 
Students were throwing food, plates, pop bottles — "anything they could get their hands on" — at school staff and police, Palmer said.
 
A dozen officers responded to the scene and used chemical spray to break up the fight, he added. School officials said police used chemical spray in the air above the crowd, though several students complained of the spray's effects.
 
Student Council President Connor Bass told the Star Tribune that the scene was "chaos," with five or six fights going on simultaneously.
 
"When the cops came and started spraying Mace it was just pandemonium with people trying to run away," Bass said.
 
No arrests were made, but police plan to review surveillance video, which may lead to charges, Palmer said.
 
The school was put on lockdown after the fight, and the policy will remain in place Friday, school officials said. That means students will to stay in their classrooms during class and access to the building will be limited. Counselors also will be on hand.
 
The school, which has about 2,000 students, dismissed at the regular time Thursday, and afternoon athletics went ahead as scheduled.

Tyler Andersen, a resident of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., was at the Drive for COPD 300 on Saturday and was filming the final lap when Kyle Larson's car got turned into the catchfence just in front of him and debris from his car flew into the grandstands.
 
You can see the panic in the stands in the crash's aftermath and the tire that flew over the catchfence landed just feet from Anderson.
 
At least 28 fans were injured in the crash, two critically, which also damaged the catchfence. Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood said that the fence would be repaired in time for Sunday's Daytona 500.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Texas -
For the second day in a row police searched the Highland Park High School campus, this time because .22 caliber bullets were found in a boy's bathroom.
 
A Highland Park Independent School District spokesman said someone came into the office at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to report finding the ammo in the bathroom.
 
The school was placed on lockdown for about two hours and then students were dismissed for the day.

Police searched the campus and questioned a group of several students who were seen on surveillance video in the area where the bullets were found just before they were reported.
 
This is the fifth scare for the school in recent months.
 
On Tuesday students were dismissed at 11 a.m. because of a threatening note found in a bathroom. Three other similar notes have been found.
 
While some student haven't been taking the threats all that seriously, parents are.
 
"It's no fun dropping off your kid at a school where there's been sort of constant threats for the past six to eight weeks," said Jesse Shelmire.
 
The district said the bullets weren't found in the same bathroom as the threatening notes and they didn't come with a letter.

A Highland Park High School student found a handful of .22 caliber bullet shells in a bathroom Wednesday, and the school's 2,000 students were sent home early for the second consecutive day.

On Tuesday, a threatening note was found in a different bathroom -- the fourth such threat in the last two months.
 
School district spokesperson Helen Williams said school will start at the standard time Thursday morning -- with stepped-up security.
 
“The City of UP (University Park) has generously offered to send extra officers to be here throughout the day,” Williams said, “and we will limit the places students can enter and leave the school.”
 
“We are also restricting access to the bathrooms because all of these notes and items were found in the bathrooms,” she said.   
 
Authorities are also reviewing video recorded by hallway cameras as they continue their investigation into the threats.
 
Williams says the Highland Park District is using a text messaging system as well as email and the district website to keep parents informed.

Seriously? Don't they realize they are being played by some students? I have no doubt that's exactly what that deal is. Toss a few bullets, leave a note, and bingo! Schools out. That, or it's some teacher on the hook to stir up the subject for the anti-gun crowd.

Yeah, another point - back in the 80's and 90's, if these stunts get pulled, almost immediately school officials would be looking for the mischievious student that pulled this prank. Now? They just run around like their hair is on fire.

Connecticut school evacuated due to unconfirmed threat

(Reuters) - The high school in Weston, Connecticut, was evacuated and placed on lockdown on Wednesday due to an "unconfirmed threat," authorities for the suburban town said.
 
The threat was under investigation by the school administration and Weston police, said Weston Communications Center Director John Ojarovsky.
 
"There was an unconfirmed threat," he said. "As a precaution, the high school was locked down."
 
About 800 students attend the public high school in Weston, located about 20 miles south of Newtown, Connecticut, where 20 children and six adults were killed in a gunman's massacre at an elementary school in December.
 
The lockdown at Weston High School took place at 12:30 p.m., Ojarovsky said. There were no further details immediately available about the nature of the threat, he said.
 
Weston, an affluent town in southwestern Connecticut that is home to such celebrities as Rolling Stones' guitarist Keith Richards, is about 50 miles northeast of New York City.
 
A spokeswoman for the Weston Police Department said its chief would have a statement later in the afternoon.

Roger Goodell is one of the most polarizing figures in professional sports. He's presiding over the nation's most popular sports league at one of its most crucial moments. Whether or not he's the commissioner we need, he's the commissioner we've got. And he's the subject of a fascinating new feature by Don Van Natta Jr. in ESPN The Magazine.
 
Goodell chose to decline repeated requests for an interview, which is beyond unfortunate given how much ESPN has invested in his league. But through conversations with friends and associates, we learn the commissioner's greatest fear: that a player will die on the field.
 
As the article notes, Goodell often tells the story of how Teddy Roosevelt saved the game of football in the early 20th century by mandating changes to a game in which 18 players died of skull fractures one year. The NFL has suffered only one on-field death: Lions wide receiver Chuck Hughes, who died of a heart attack in 1971.
 
And now Goodell fears it could happen again: "He's terrified of it," a Hall of Fame player told ESPN. "It wouldn't just be a tragedy. It would be awfully bad for business."
 
While "bad for business" is an extraordinarily casual way to refer to an on-field death, it's accurate; a death would be catastrophic for a sport already dealing with criticism for its handling of concussions and player safety. And given that Bernard Pollard, among others, has already said that there's a possibility of a death on the field, if the worst case came to pass, the NFL would be forced to undergo some serious, possibly revolutionary, self-examination.
 
The entire article is well worth a read. Goodell has made many enemies and frustrated quite a few people, including a substantial portion of the player base. But if he's able to navigate the league through its current problems, his reputation will undergo a well-deserved polishing.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Eleven people were injured, including one seriously, after a drive-by shooting outside a D.C. apartment building early Monday, police said.
 
The shooting occurred around 2:45 a.m. in the area of New York Avenue and North Capitol Street when gunmen in two cars opened fire on a crowd standing outside an apartment building, police Chief Cathy Lanier said.
 
Detectives were reviewing surveillance video showing the vehicles and planned to release it to the public in hopes of generating leads on the shooters, she said. Police were looking for two cars — one an older-model dark BMW, the other a light or grey sedan.
 
The seriously wounded victim was shot in the back. None of the injuries is believed to be life-threatening, and the victims — who were either grazed by bullets or shot in the legs, hands or other extremities — were reported to be conscious and breathing.
 
Police said they didn’t immediately know of a motive, and detectives were still interviewing witnesses and collecting bullet fragments and other evidence.
 
‘‘We've got to interview a ton’’ of witnesses, said Peter Newsham, assistant police chief.
 
It wasn’t immediately clear why the crowd was standing outside at that time of day, though Lanier said a club across the street had let out about 15 minutes earlier.

KAUFMAN, Texas (AP) — Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland took no chances after one of his assistant prosecutors was gunned down two months ago. McLelland said he carried a gun everywhere he went and was extra careful when answering the door at his home.

"I'm ahead of everybody else because, basically, I'm a soldier," the 23-year Army veteran said in an interview less than two weeks ago.

On Saturday, he and his wife were found shot to death in their rural home just outside the town of Forney, about 20 miles from Dallas.

While investigators gave no motive for the killings, Forney Mayor Darren Rozell said: "It appears this was not a random act."

"Everybody's a little on edge and a little shocked," he said.

The slayings came less than two weeks after Colorado's prison chief was shot to death at his front door, apparently by an ex-convict, and a couple of months after Kaufman County Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse was killed in a parking lot a block from his courthouse office. No arrests have been made in Hasse's slaying Jan. 31.

McLelland, 63, is the 13th prosecutor killed in the U.S. since the National Association of District Attorneys began keeping count in the 1960s.

Sheriff David Byrnes would not give details Sunday of how the killings unfolded and said there was nothing to indicate for certain whether the DA's slaying was connected to Hasse's.

El Paso County, Colo., sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Joe Roybal said investigators had found no evidence so far connecting the Texas killings to the Colorado case, but added: "We're examining all possibilities."

Colorado's corrections director, Tom Clements, was killed March 19 when he answered the doorbell at his home outside Colorado Springs. Evan Spencer Ebel, a white supremacist and former Colorado inmate suspected of shooting Clements, died in a shootout with Texas deputies two days later about 100 miles from Kaufman.

McLelland himself, in an Associated Press interview shortly after the Colorado slaying, raised the possibility that Hasse was gunned down by a white supremacist gang.

The weekend slayings raised concerns for prosecutors across Texas, and some were taking extra security precautions. Byrnes said security would be increased at the courthouse in Kaufman but declined to say if or how other prosecutors in McLelland's office would be protected.

Harris County District Attorney Mike Anderson said he accepted the sheriff's offer of 24-hour security for him and his family after learning about the slayings, mostly over concerns for his family's safety. Anderson said also would take precautions at his Houston office, the largest one in Texas, which has more than 270 prosecutors.

"I think district attorneys across Texas are still in a state of shock," Anderson said Sunday.

McLelland, elected DA in 2010, said his office had prosecuted several cases against racist gangs, who have a strong presence around Kaufman County, a mostly rural area dotted with subdivisions, with a population of about 104,000.

"We put some real dents in the Aryan Brotherhood around here in the past year," he said.

In recent years, the DA's office also prosecuted a case in which a justice of the peace was found guilty of theft and burglary and another case in which a man was convicted of killing his former girlfriend and her 10-year-old daughter.

McLelland said he carried a gun everywhere, even to walk his dog around town, a bedroom community for the Dallas area. He figured assassins were more likely to try to attack him outside. He said he had warned all his employees to be constantly on the alert.

"The people in my line of work are going to have to get better at it," he said of dealing with the danger, "because they're going to need it more in the future."

The number of attacks on prosecutors, judges and senior law enforcement officers in the U.S. has spiked in the past three years, according to Glenn McGovern, an investigator with the Santa Clara County, Calif., district attorney's office who tracks such cases.

For about a month after Hasse's slaying, sheriff's deputies were parked in the district attorney's driveway, said Sam Rosander, a McLelland neighbor.

The FBI and the Texas Rangers joined the investigation into the McLellands' deaths.

McLelland and his wife, Cynthia, 65, were the parents of two daughters and three sons. One son is a police officer in Dallas. The couple had moved into the home a few years ago, Rozell said.

"Real friendly, became part of our community quickly," Rozell said. "They were a really pleasant, happy couple."

Police arrested a panhandler who reportedly lit man on fire outside a convenience store in Long Beach, Calif. after not receiving money.

The 63-year-old victim was hospitalized with third-degree burns. He is in critical condition.

ABC Los Angeles affiliate KABC reported Fridaythat a panhandler approached the victim walking into a 7-Eleven store and asked him for money. The victim said no.

When the victim left the store and got into his SUV, the 37-year-old transient reportedly doused him and the inside of his vehicle with a flammable substance and lit it on fire, engulfing the truck in flames with the man inside, KABC reported.

"With the door open you could see the entire insides were ablaze," one eyewitness told "Good Morning America." "He came out and he was horrifying. His entire shirt was on fire, his head was on fire."

Authorities said it was a random act of violence. The two men did not know each other, police said.

"It's a horrific crime to think that somebody's, really no motive, just sitting there, minding their own business and then to be lit on fire," Long Beach Police Sgt. Aaron Eaton told KABC.

KABC reported the transient was arrested and will be charged with arson and attempted murder.

Police have not released the names of the two men.

At least 19 injured in New Orleans Mother's Day shooting

At least nineteen people in New Orleans, including two children, were injured on Sunday when multiple gunmen opened fire on a Mother’s Day parade, police said.

A 10-year-old boy and 10-year-old girl were grazed by bullets but are in good condition, New Orleans Police spokesman Garry Flot said in a statement. A woman and a man were in surgery Sunday evening, but there were no fatalities and most wounds were not life threatening, police said.

According to police, most victims were grazed by bullets.

Authorities saw three people running away from the scene after the shooting. At least one suspect was described as a man between the ages of 18 and 22.

New Orleans Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas said there may have been as many as three shooters, and that two different types of weapons were likely used.

The victims were marching in what is known as a second line parade, which are common in New Orleans: A brass band plays while marching in the streets, while a “second line” of people follows the band, celebrating.

Police say the parade was just two blocks long.

“These are unusual circumstances. We have second lines which occur in the city of New Orleans virtually every weekend at this time of the year,” said Serpas.  “We had a full complement of police officers. It appears that these 2 or 3 people just for a reason unknown to us, started shooting at towards, or in the crowd. It was over in just a couple seconds.”

Detectives are conducting interviews and retrieving surveillance video from around the crime scene. A spokesman for the New Orleans Police Department said he is confident swift arrests will be made.

In front of reporters late Sunday, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.

Second lines have been targets for violence in New Orleans in recent years. In the past, shooters have targeted a specific person in the crowd, which authorities say may have been the case Sunday as well.  But Landrieu dismissed the notion of outlawing the Louisiana tradition.

“It’s not the second line that did the shooting,” he said. “The cultural events are very important to us, it’s like calling for an end to Mardi Gras because someone takes an opportunity to shoot someone during one of our parades.” 

“Second lines have been with us for a long, long time,” Landrieu added. “They are an important part of our culture and our heritage.”

Police ID suspect in New Orleans mass shooting

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Police late Monday identified a 19-year-old man as a suspect in the shooting of about 20 people during a Mother's Day parade in New Orleans, saying several people had identified him as the gunman captured by surveillance camera videos.

Superintendent Ronal Serpas said officers were looking for Akein Scott of New Orleans. He said it was too early to say whether he was the only shooter.

"We would like to remind the community and Akein Scott that the time has come for him to turn himself in," Serpas said at a news conference outside of police headquarters.

A photo of Scott hung from a podium in front of the police chief. "We know more about you than you think we know," he said.

The mass shooting showed again how far the city has to go to shake a persistent culture of violence that belies the city's festive image. Earlier, police announced a $10,000 reward and released blurry surveillance camera images, which led to several tips from the community.

"The people today chose to be on the side of the young innocent children who were shot and not on the side of a coward who shot into the crowd," Serpas said.

The superintendent said SWAT team members and U.S. marshals served a searched warrant at one location looking for Scott, and also visited two other blocks of interest.

He vowed that police would be "looking for Akein Scott for the rest of the night and tomorrow... and I would strongly recommend that Akeim turn himself in."

Angry residents said gun violence — which has flared at two other city celebrations this year — goes hand-in-hand with the city's other deeply rooted problems such as poverty and urban blight. The investigators tasked with solving Sunday's shooting work within an agency that's had its own troubles rebounding from years of corruption while trying to halt violent crime.

"The old people are scared to walk the streets. The children can't even play outside," Ronald Lewis, 61, said Monday as he sat on the front stoop of his house, about a half block from the shooting site. His window sill has a hole from a bullet that hit it last year. Across the street sits a house marked by bullets that he said were fired two weeks ago.

"The youngsters are doing all this," said Jones, who was away from home when the latest shooting broke out.

Video released early Monday shows a crowd gathered for a boisterous second-line parade suddenly scattering in all directions, with some falling to the ground. They appear to be running from a man in a white T-shirt and dark pants who turns and runs out of the picture.

Police were working to determine whether there was more than one gunman, though they initially said three people were spotted fleeing from the scene. Whoever was responsible escaped despite the presence of officers who were interspersed through the crowd as part of routine precautions for such an event.

Serpas said Scott has previously been arrested for resisting arrest, possession of a firearm and narcotics charges, with a recent arrest in March. It was not immediately clear whether he had been convicted on any of those charges.

"Akeim is no stranger to the criminal justice system," Serpas said.

Serpas said that ballistic evidence gathered at the scene was giving them "very good leads to work on."

Witness Jarrat Pytell said he was walking with friends near the parade route when the crowd suddenly began to break up.

"I saw the guy on the corner, his arm extended, firing into the crowd," said Pytell, a medical student.

"He was obviously pointing in a specific direction; he wasn't swinging the gun wildly," Pytell said.

Pytell said he tended to one woman with a severe arm fracture — he wasn't sure if it was from a bullet or a fall — and to others including an apparent shooting victim who was bleeding badly.

Three gunshot victims remained in critical condition Monday, though their wounds didn't appear to be life-threatening. Most of the wounded had been released from the hospital.

It's not the first time gunfire has shattered a festive mood in the city this year. Five people were wounded in a drive-by shooting in January after a Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade, and four were wounded in a shooting after an argument in the French Quarter in the days leading up to Mardi Gras. Two teens were arrested in connection with the MLK Day shootings; three men were arrested and charged in the Mardi Gras shootings.

The shootings are bloody reminders of the persistence of violence in the city, despite some recent progress.

Last week, law enforcement officials touted the indictment of 15 people in gang-related crimes, including the death of a 5-year-old girl killed by stray gunfire at a birthday party a year ago.

The city's 193 homicides in 2012 are seven fewer than the previous year, while the first three months of 2013 represented an even slower pace of killing.

Leading efforts to lower the homicide rate is a police force that's faced its own internal problems and staffing issues. At about 1,200 members, the department is 300 short of its peak level.

Serpas, the chief since 2010, has been working to overcome the effects of decades of scandal and community mistrust arising from what the U.S. Justice Department says has been questionable use of force and biased policing. Mayor Mitch Landrieu and Serpas have instituted numerous reforms, but the city is at odds with the Justice Department over the cost and scope of more extensive changes.

Landrieu's administration initially agreed to a reform plan expected to cost tens of millions over the next several years. But Landrieu says he wants out now because Justice lawyers entered a separate agreement with Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin Gusman over the violent and unsanitary New Orleans jail — funded by the city but operated by Gusman.

The site of the Sunday shooting — about 1.5 miles from the heart of the French Quarter — showcases other problems facing the city. Stubborn poverty and blight are evident in the area of middle-class and low-income homes. Like other areas hit hard by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the area has been slower to repopulate than wealthier areas. And Landrieu's stepped up efforts to demolish or renovate blighted properties — a pre-Katrina problem made worse by the storm — remain too slow for some.

Frank Jones, 71, whose house is a few doors down from the shooting site, said the house across from him has been abandoned since Katrina. Squatters and drug dealers sometimes take shelter there, he said.

A city code inspector, who declined to be interviewed, was there Monday

"It's too late," Jones said. "Should have fixed it from the very beginning. A lot of people are getting fed up with the system."

Two dead, five injured — including sheriff — in two-county Texas shooting spree

A man went on an early morning shooting spree across two Texas counties Sunday, killing a woman and injuring five other people — one of them the Concho County sheriff — before dying in a shootout with law enforcement, authorities said.

At least nine state and local agencies chased the man — a 23-year-old North Carolina resident whose name wasn't released because his family hadn't been notified — for almost two hours, as he opened fire from his pickup truck on random cars across McCulloch and Concho counties, near San Angelo in central Texas.

The shooter eventually died in a gunfire exchange with a state trooper and a game warden on a highway north of the town of Eden, the state Department of Public Safety said. That was when authorities discovered that he'd been armed with an assault-style rifle, a handgun and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

The victims included Alicia Torres, 41, who was shot to death in her car in the town of Eola, and Concho County Sheriff Richard Doane, who was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo.

Investigators pieced together this timeline of events:

The gunman first opened fire about 4:30 a.m. local time (5:30 a.m. ET) on a vehicle in the Eden area of Concho County, hitting a woman who remained in Shannon Medical Center on Sunday night. Her condition wasn't reported.

He then made his way to a convenience story in Brady, in McCulloch County, where he shot and injured two people as they sat in their vehicle. They were treated and released.

The gunman then turned around and headed back to Eden, where he fired at another vehicle at about 5:30 a.m. That victim was also treated and released.

Just after 6 a.m., Concho County sheriff's deputies responding to a call of shots fired in Eola found Torres dead in her car.

About 15 minutes later, Doane, the sheriff, caught up with the truck north of Eden on U.S. Highway 83. As state troopers arrived to assist, the suspect fired and wounded Doane.

That started the shootout, with a state trooper and a game warden who'd showed up to help exchanging gunfire with the suspect. The man was shot and died at the scene, authorities said.

No other details were released. Investigators would say only that they were reviewing "multiple crime scenes."

We Are Now One Year Away From Global Riots, Complex Systems Theorists Say

What’s the number one reason we riot? The plausible, justifiable motivations of trampled-upon humanfolk to fight back are many—poverty, oppression, disenfranchisement, etc—but the big one is more primal than any of the above. It’s hunger, plain and simple. If there’s a single factor that reliably sparks social unrest, it’s food becoming too scarce or too expensive. So argues a group of complex systems theorists in Cambridge, and it makes sense.
 
In a 2011 paper, researchers at the Complex Systems Institute unveiled a model that accurately explained why the waves of unrest that swept the world in 2008 and 2011 crashed when they did. The number one determinant was soaring food prices. Their model identified a precise threshold for global food prices that, if breached, would lead to worldwide unrest.
 
The MIT Technology Review explains how CSI’s model works: “The evidence comes from two sources. The first is data gathered by the United Nations that plots the price of food against time, the so-called food price index of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN. The second is the date of riots around the world, whatever their cause.” Plot the data, and it looks like this:
 
Pretty simple. Black dots are the food prices, red lines are the riots. In other words, whenever the UN’s food price index, which measures the monthly change in the price of a basket of food commodities, climbs above 210, the conditions ripen for social unrest around the world. CSI doesn’t claim that any breach of 210 immediately leads to riots, obviously; just that the probability that riots will erupt grows much greater. For billions of people around the world, food comprises up to 80% of routine expenses (for rich-world people like you and I, it’s like 15%). When prices jump, people can’t afford anything else; or even food itself. And if you can’t eat—or worse, your family can’t eat—you fight.
 
But how accurate is the model? An anecdote the researchers outline in the report offers us an idea. They write that “on December 13, 2010, we submitted a government report analyzing the repercussions of the global financial crises, and directly identifying the risk of social unrest and political instability due to food prices.” Four days later, Mohamed Bouazizi set himself on fire as an act of protest in Tunisia. And we all know what happened after that.
 
Today, the food price index is hovering around 213, where it has stayed for months—just beyond the tip of the identified threshold. Low corn yield in the U.S., the world’s most important producer, has helped keep prices high.
 
“Recent droughts in the mid-western United States threaten to cause global catastrophe,” Yaneer Bar-Yam, one of the authors of the report, recently told Al Jazeera. “When people are unable to feed themselves and their families, widespread social disruption occurs. We are on the verge of another crisis, the third in five years, and likely to be the worst yet, capable of causing new food riots and turmoil on a par with the Arab Spring.”
 
Yet the cost of food hasn’t quite yet risen to the catastrophic levels reached last year. Around the time of the riots cum-revolutions, we saw the food price index soar through 220 points and even push 240. This year, we’ve pretty consistently hovered in the 210-216 range—right along the cusp of danger. But CSI expects a perilous trend in rising food prices to continue. Even before the extreme weather scrambled food prices this year, their 2011 report predicted that the next great breach would occur in August 2013, and that the risk of more worldwide rioting would follow. So, if trends hold, these complex systems theorists say we’re less than one year and counting from a fireball of global unrest.
 
But the reality is that such predictions are now all but impossible to make. In a world well-warmed by climate change, unpredictable, extreme weather events like the drought that has consumed 60% of the United States and the record heat that has killed its cattle are now the norm. Just two years ago, heat waves in Russia crippled its grain yield and dealt a devastating blow to global food markets—the true, unheralded father of the Arab Spring was global warming, some say.
 
And it’s only going to get worse and worse and worse. Because of climate change-exacerbated disasters like these, “the average price of staple foods such as maize could more than double in the next 20 years compared with 2010 trend prices,” a new report from Oxfam reveals. That report details how the poor will be even more vulnerable to climate change-induced food price shocks than previously thought. After all, we’ve “loaded the climate dice,” as NASA’s James Hansen likes to say, and the chances of such disasters rolling out are greater than ever.
 
This all goes to say that as long as climate change continues to advance—it seems that nothing can stop that now—and we maintain a global food system perennially subject to volatile price spikes and exploitation from speculators, without reform, our world will be an increasingly restive one. Hunger is coming, and so are the riots.

As many as six people were killed and two to three others injured Friday when a gunman clad in black went on a rampage through Santa Monica, Calif., before being shot to death in the library of a community college, authorities said. Another individual, described as a "person of interest," was in custody, they said.

The shootings took place just three miles away from where President Barack Obama was scheduled to attend a fundraising event. The Secret Service said the incident was believed to be unrelated to the president’s visit.

Police had not yet identified the gunman or established a motive for the bloodshed.

Santa Monica Police Department Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks said that investigators were combing as many as three crime scenes as the assailant cut a violent path from a private residence on a suburban block to a library on the campus of Santa Monica College, a two-year school just a short drive away from the Pacific Ocean.

Authorities initially responded shortly before noon to reports of a blaze at a home fewer than 20 blocks away from the campus. Responding officers found two people believed to have been fatally shot by the gunman inside the flame-engulfed structure, Seabrooks said.

The gunman is believed to have moved west toward the college, firing at passing vehicles and leaving as many as three dead. More shots were fired when the gunman attempted to carjack a passing vehicle, law enforcement sources told NBC News.

Marta Fagerstroem, a student at the college, told NBC Los Angeles that she was on a bus that was stopped at a red light when the gunman stepped out from the passenger side of the car and fired five or six shots at the bus.

"This guy just steps out with a big rifle and starts shooting," Fagerstroem told the station. A woman in the back of the bus was bleeding from her head, she said.

Attempting to evade officers, the gunman ran onto the college campus and entered a library, where he shot at multiple people, police said. As students scattered, officers entered the library and shot and killed the gunman, the said.

Dr. Marshall Morgan of the Reagan UCLA Medical Center said in a news conference hours after the shootings that one of three victims -- all women -- brought to the trauma center with gunshot wounds had died.  One other was still in surgery and another was listed in serious condition, he said.

Three other patents were brought to UCLA Santa Monica with relatively minor injuries, he said. 

The principal suspect has yet to be identified by authorities, Seabrooks said. He is described as a male Caucasian between the ages of 25 and 30. He was dressed head to toe in black and sported what authorities said appeared to be a bullet-proof vest.

Seabrooks said little about the "person of interest" except to say, "We are not convinced 100 percent that the suspect who was killed operated in (a) solo or a lone capacity."

Obama was in Santa Monica for a Democratic National Committee event at a private home at 2 p.m. (5 p.m. ET). A spokesman for the Secret Service said the agency was aware of the incident but said it was being treated as "a local police matter at this point."

In other words, he was there having a secret meeting with the rich.  ::)

Santa Monica, California (CNN) -- The gunman's rampage began at a home in this beachfront city, where two were found dead inside. Then he carjacked a woman and fired at a public bus. It all ended when police shot him dead at Santa Monica College as students studied for finals, a mile from the house.

His blood trail, however, left four people dead Friday in Santa Monica, which abuts Los Angeles and is renowned for its liberal openness.

A law enforcement source with knowledge of the investigation told CNN on Saturday that the gunman had suffered mental health issues. A couple of years ago, he was hospitalized for treatment after allegedly talking about harming someone, according to the official.

It's not clear whether the state government or his family committed him for treatment or whether he committed himself. It's also unclear under what circumstances he was released.

Authorities have found no link to domestic or international terror, the official added.

The gunman has been identified, but his name won't be released until authorities reach his family members, who are believed to be outside the United States, city Police Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks said Saturday.

The gunman and a family member had been enrolled in the college as recently as 2010. The gunman, 23, would have turned 24 on Saturday, Seabrooks said.

Police had contact with the gunman in 2006, but because he was a juvenile then, authorities couldn't release further information Saturday, Seabrooks said.

One of the four persons killed in Friday's shooting rampage was shot outside the library of Santa Monica College, college Police Chief Albert Vasquez said.

Another victim shot dead was identified as Carlos Navarro Franco, 68, who resided in one of Los Angeles' west neighborhoods near Santa Monica, authorities said. He was the driver of an SUV who was gunned down on the campus, police said.

Franco was with his youngest daughter, Marcela, who was going to buy textbooks for her studies at California State University, Dominguez Hills, Santa Monica College President Chui Tsang said in a statement Saturday.

The daughter, 26, was shot and is in critical condition at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center "and is not expected to survive," said Tsang.

Alfred Creollo, a relative who lives in the same building as the family, said that Carlos Franco had worked as a groundskeeper and been with Santa Monica College for 30 years -- though he wasn't working the day of the shooting.

This isn't the first tragedy to hit the family, Tsang notes: Carlos Franco's son died two summers ago in a car accident.

"He was a dedicated husband, dedicated to his family, he was a good person," Creollo said. "We lived here together for 30 years. It was just a devastating blow to hear what happened to him."

The three other victims have not yet been identified.

The two-year college remained closed Saturday as police combed the crime scene for clues to the rampage, which began shortly before noon at an acquaintance's house in one of Santa Monica's breezy neighborhoods.

The gunman, shot by police, died of multiple gunshot wounds, the Santa Monica police chief said.

Investigators are still trying to determine the motive in the shootings that left five people wounded, Seabrooks told reporters Saturday. A woman is in grave condition and her prognosis is not good, Seabrooks said.

The gunman had addresses connected to the house where the rampage began and to a residence in Los Angeles' Palms neighborhood, Seabrooks said.

The shooting spree at several locations in Santa Monica lasted 13 minutes, though the house was apparently set afire before the shooting began, police said.

Given that gunman was wearing a ballistic vest and heavily armed, "I would say it's premeditated," said Seabrooks, who estimated that the shooter had some 1,300 rounds of ammunition during the spree.

Dressed in black and toting an assault-style rifle, the man's apparently random gunfire became the nation's latest disturbing killing spree, ending with his death in the college library and leaving this tourist beachfront city reeling with shock.

A neighbor's account

Jerry Cunningham stepped onto her porch when she heard the shots. She saw the gunman firing at a neighboring house, which was also on fire.

The neighborhood, regarded as working class, sits beside Interstate 10 -- "the last affordable area in Santa Monica," with houses under $1 million, said nearby resident Carmen Franco, 47, who's not related to the killed victim. "Nobody can afford to buy now here in Santa Monica," where houses are easily seven figures, she added. The area's only trailer park is on the other side of the highway.

Investigators believe the gunman knew the dead people in the house, but police were unsure of the connection. The fire began in the front room of the 1,000-square-foot house, and the two bodies were found in a back room, Fire Chief Scott Ferguson said. No accelerant was found, he added.

Cunningham then observed the gunman force at gunpoint a woman to stop her car.

Another car approached. The gunman waved it by, Cunningham said. That driver, also a woman, hesitated for just a moment, and the gunman "fired three shots directly into her and the car," Cunningham said.

The motorist was wounded in the shoulder, she said. That driver was hospitalized and is in stable condition, authorities said.

The gunman then got into the first car and forced the woman to drive off with him, police said.

During their ride, 911 calls poured in, keeping police on the gunman's path, said Sgt. Richard Lewis, a spokesman for the Santa Monica police.

As the car headed toward the campus of the community college, where 30,000 students are registered, he opened fire on a passing bus, slightly wounding three people, Lewis said.

He was carrying an "AR-15 style rifle," pistols and "more clips for the rifle," Lewis said.

Police have described the shooter as a 25- to 30-year-old man who was dressed in black and wearing a tactical vest.

As the car pulled onto the campus, the man fired into Franco's red SUV, killing him and critically wounding his passenger, police said. Franco's vehicle crashed after the shooting, Lewis said.

The gunman then abandoned the hijacked vehicle -- leaving the driver unhurt -- and fled on foot, shooting at police, Lewis said.

On campus

College employee Joe Orcutt saw the firefight between the man and officers and took off running, but ran the wrong way and found himself facing the gunman.

"He looked over at me, and I looked at him," Orcutt said. "He just panned his gun and trained it on me, and I just jumped behind the building and he shot at me."

The gunman was "very calm, not running around." He was just "looking around for targets very casually," he said.

"He just looked like he was standing there posing for the cover of an ammo magazine or something. It was bizarre."

Inside a classroom

Jasmine Franco, 22, was in a classroom at Santa Monica College -- next to the library -- waiting for her English class to start at noon on Thursday. Little did she know that the gunman began his rampage at a house near to where she and her mother, Carmen, live.

Jasmine Franco's friend had left the room to fill his water bottle and she was sitting alone when she first became aware something was wrong. "You could hear rumbling, a lot of rumbling, it sounded like an earthquake or something," she said, referring to the sounds of gunfire mixed with the footfalls of people running.

But her 11 classmates and the teacher appeared oblivious, and continued their banter until her friend burst back in. "His whole face was red and his veins were coming out of his neck, he was trying to calm himself," Franco said.

"I'm entirely serious," she said he told them. "There's a shooter on campus."

He told the class he had heard a gun unload. "He said it just sprayed and unloaded tons of rounds."

Not knowing what to do, "We just sat there."

The teacher left the classroom to see what he could learn and, moments later, ran back inside. "He says, 'They just unloaded a magazine.' He said there was a lot of bullets."

At that moment, the door to the hallway locked shut -- automatically -- with a click, she said. Outside the classroom, she could see dozens of people fleeing on the cement. "We could see people running with their backpacks," Franco said. "No screaming, just running. We could just hear feet and running."

Inside the library

As the killer ran, he fatally shot a woman, then burst into the campus library, said Santa Monica Police Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks.

Another woman -- who asked not to be identified -- said she was in the building when she heard a gunshot. She took off.

In a hallway, she saw a dark-haired man in black combat boots who she initially thought was a police officer, but quickly realized was the shooter. The man was walking quietly and casually.

She and a colleague ran; gunshots rang out.

Priscilla Morales said that, when she and her friends looked out a library window and saw people running, they grabbed their belongings and prepared to leave, too, but didn't get far. "As we open the door, we hear three gunshots," she said.

So they closed the door and hid.

"I was so scared and thought literally I was going to die," she said.

"Drop it!" she heard police say, then heard gunshots and a man's screams.

The officers had shot the gunman, Lewis said.

Police said that, with the exception of his first two victims in the off-campus house, all of the other victims appear to have been chosen at random.

"My heart goes out to the families of the victims of these tragic shootings in Santa Monica, and I am praying for the recovery of those who were injured," said U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-California.

At the time of the shootings, President Barack Obama was in Santa Monica for a fundraiser a 10-minute drive from the campus, CNN affiliate KCAL/KCBS reported. His schedule was not affected.

Back in the classroom

Franco's classroom ended up waiting three hours before police arrived.

During that time, some students followed events on Twitter, but the reports of people being shot and a house burned down seemed unconnected and far-fetched. "Everything's hearsay," Franco said. "People tell you one thing, but you have no clue what's happening. You just don't know anything. The best thing to do is not worry about it. Sit down."

People kept opening the classroom door, which infuriated Franco. "You're not supposed to open the door," she said. "I'm just like, 'No, we're not going to do that.'"

Though they could see police from classroom windows, "no one came to check on us" for more than two hours, she said.

Tan-uniformed officers with big guns finally arrived and escorted students out with their hands on their heads for security -- "like inmates," Franco said. Officers shouted "Go! Go! Go!"

But at least the class was safe.

Franco called her mother, who also drove home some classmates whose cars were inaccessible behind yellow police tape.

"I went home and fell asleep," Franco said.

'Bash mobs' sweep through Southern California

Organized "bash mob" crime rampages of roving groups attacking innocent people and businesses have been striking cities around the United States. Law enforcement agencies in Southern California have reported few similar problems -- until now.

In the last several days, there have been several reports of such group crime waves in South L.A., Hollywood, San Bernardino and Victorville. Long Beach police are bracing for another one Friday.

These so-called bash mobs of "flash mob" crime waves are organized through social media and have been a problem in Chicago, Philadelphia and Washington. In April, 28 Chicago youths were arrested on suspicion of attacking pedestrians along the city's famed Magnificent Mile. Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn signed legislation in May enacting stiffer penalties for people who text or use social media to organize mob attacks.

Long Beach police warned in a statement that participants could face severe penalties.

"The mere participation in such an event can result in felony charges including conspiracy, and are punishable by imprisonment in the state prison," according to the statement.

Police said they feared bash mob organizers planned to hit Long Beach at 2 p.m.

Long Beach experienced such a gathering July 9, when more than 100 people descended on stretches of downtown in an organized, sudden crime rampage.

On Monday, a group of unruly young people broke off from hundreds gathered for a Trayvon Martin prayer vigil and rushed into a Wal-Mart on Crenshaw Boulevard, where they tossed merchandise and tried to break into a jewelry display case.

In Hollywood on Tuesday night, a flash mob of thieves rushed down Hollywood Boulevard, stealing phones, knocking over tourists and vandalizing shops, according to police, who said it may have been related to the George Zimmerman verdict. Twelve people — 11 juveniles and one 18-year-old -- were arrested on suspicion of robbery. 

On Wednesday night in Victorville, authorities arrested 17 people after a group allegedly tried to force its way into the Mall of Victor Valley.

#1 Elderly Men Held In A “Dungeon” In Houston

Four elderly men in Houston were recently rescued from the “dungeon” that they were being held in.  The goal of their captors was apparently to confiscate their Social Security and veteran benefits checks…

    Four men found living in “deplorable conditions” in a Houston garage told police that they were being held captive after being lured by promises of alcohol and cigarettes so that their captor could cash their public-assistance checks, authorities said.

When police arrived at the place they were being held, they found that the doors had literally been nailed shut…

    Around 8am Friday, a neighbor called 911, fearing there some was something suspicious going on in the home. Police say when they arrived they discovered four men living in some sort of converted garage without beds or even a restroom.

    One by one, the alleged captives were taken away on stretchers. They’re sick, malnourished and confused. Police say they were being held in the home against their will — possibly for years.

    Police have arrested one man and are searching for a second suspect after they allegedly lured a 16-year-old girl to a Brooklyn roof, where they raped her before throwing her off,  leaving her with serious injuries to her leg, arm and back, authorities said.

    Authorities say the two men, ages 24 and 26, lured the teenage girl to the roof of a three-story building on Miller Avenue in East New York early Sunday.

    They allegedly raped her and flung her off the roof after at least one of them tried to strangle her, police said.

According to the New York Daily News, a 50-year-old Brooklyn man got much more than he was bargaining for when he was lured up to the roof of a four-story building with promises of sex…

    A 50-year-old Brooklyn man who fell to his death from atop a four-story building was lured onto the roof by two women who had promised him sex, police sources said Thursday.

    Instead of showing Robert Reichl a good time, the women led him into a trap shortly after midnight on Wednesday — and stole $2,000 in cash he had been carrying.

    Three toughs were waiting on the roof of the building on Fourth Ave. near 47th St. in Sunset Park, the sources said, and at some point the men attacked Reichl.

    One of them, Ruben Santiago, sprayed Reichl in the face with a chemical spray believed to be mace that caused the victim to reel back, lose his balance and fall off the rooftop, the source said.

Would you defecate next to someone else’s house?  Would you do it multiple times?…

    An Albuquerque, New Mexico, man was in for a vile surprise when he realized that a random woman has been defecating next to his house during her morning jogs. The bizarre and grotesque act — which has purportedly occurred at least four times — has been caught repeatedly on a security camera.

    The homeowner, who wishes to remain anonymous and goes by the alias “Bobby,” went to local ABC affiliate KOAT-TV with the footage in an effort to try and track the woman down — or to, at the least, shame her into stopping the unsanitary antics.

According to CNN, there is a company called “Paladin Deception Services” that you can actually hire to tell lies for you…

    Timothy Green, a 59-year-old former private detective, claims to run a company in Forest Lake, Minn., that will lie to anyone about anything.

    Its name is Paladin Deception Services, and it advertises its services for $54 per month.

    Green says customers run the gamut — from cheating spouses in need of alibis to people playing hooky from work. But the real demand comes from job seekers, making up more than 60% of what he says are its 250 to 300 monthly clients.

    “We can replace a supervisor with a fictitious one, alter your work history, provide you with a positive employment reputation, and give you the glowing reference that you need,” Paladin’s website states.

#8 Store Clerk Beaten With A Baseball Bat Because The Store Was Out Of Extra Large Tank Top Shirts

It just doesn’t pay to be a store clerk in some neighborhoods these days.  Many of them only make minimum wage, and the abuse that they take from some customers is terrible…

    The 51-year-old clerk was behind the counter of the store when a man went into the store and asked the clerk if he had triple extra large sized tank top t-shirts, O’Brien said.

    After the clerk told the man the store did not carry the item, the man pulled out a baseball bat and began beating the clerk, O’Brien said. After beating the clerk, the man fled with the bat.

    Another merchant on the block said she saw the clerk run out after the man fled.

    “He went out on the street to cry for help,’’ his body covered in blood, she said.  “It was very unfortunate, very vicious.’’

According to Fox News, law enforcement authorities in the Cleveland area are concerned that they may have uncovered the work of yet another serial killer…

    The police chief of a Cleveland suburb told searchers Sunday that he believes there could be one or two more victims in addition to the three bodies found in the neighborhood earlier.

    Police Chief Ralph Spotts told volunteers checking vacant houses to be alert for smells of rotting. He declined to elaborate on other possible victims. East Cleveland Mayor Gary Norton said authorities have a lot of reasons to suspect there are more, but he refused to say why.

Who in the world would try to kill a tee-ball coach in front of a bunch of children?…

    A T-ball coach was stabbed in the neck just after a youth baseball game in Hoyne Park on Sunday, allegedly by a young ballplayer’s jealous father looking for his ex’s new boyfriend.

    The coach suffered a severed artery and was listed in critical condition after surgery. Although the T-ball game had just ended, there were still players present during the attack, according to a person familiar with the incident.

    Other children were arriving for the next game.

According to a shocking article in the New York Post, many food stamp recipients in New York are buying food with their EBT cards and shipping it off to relatives in foreign countries…

    Food stamps are paying for trans-Atlantic takeout — with New Yorkers using taxpayer-funded benefits to ship food to relatives in Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

    Welfare recipients are buying groceries with their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards and packing them in giant barrels for the trip overseas, The Post found.

    The practice is so common that hundreds of 45- to 55-gallon cardboard and plastic barrels line the walls of supermarkets in almost every Caribbean corner of the city.

As I have written about previously, something really seems to be wrong with American kids these days.  For example, no normal kids would  pour gasoline on a 13-year-old boy and light him on fire…

    A 13-year-old boy who police say was doused with gasoline and lit on fire last week while walking home from school is recovering from first-degree burns to his face and head.

    The boy was just two blocks from his home in Kansas City Tuesday when two teenagers began to follow him and then attacked him

And remember, right now the economy is still at least somewhat stable.

How much worse is the decay of society going to get once the economy really starts falling to pieces?

Desperate people do desperate things, and once all hope of an economic recovery is gone I believe that we are going to see a huge wave of crime and civil unrest in this nation.

And all of this comes at a time when police forces are being cut back all over the country.  For example, as I wrote about the other day, the size of the police force in Detroit has been reduced by approximately 40 percent over the past ten years.

America is changing, and not for the better.  On a very basic level, people seem to be losing a sense of love and respect for their fellow human beings.  If this continues, we will soon get to a point where many people will literally become afraid to interact with one another.

The thin veneer of civilization that we all take for granted is starting to disappear.  Once it is gone, it will be incredibly difficult to get back.

Ponder this though...Just how much does it really have an affect on how people act? Is not man already corrupted? Is he not guilty of all sin already? So really, is "entertainment" causing the problem, or is it just catering to the problem of the lusts of the flesh that has been there since Adam? I think it's actually the latter. It's playing on the lusts of men. It brings out thoughts of the world, etc. I see it as the same old scam that Satan tried with Jesus on the pinnacle of the temple. Dangle that carnal carrot, and the flesh jumps to attention. That is why we look to walk in the Spirit to avoid the lusts of the flesh. The Spirit is our way to escape all appearance of evil.

So really, media brings out the bad in people, as it's designed to cater to the lusts of the flesh.

Manchester: Rapist Richard Thomas Collapses after Discovering his Victim had HIV/Aids Virus

A rapist faces a nerve-wracking wait to find out if he caught the deadly HIV/Aids virus from his victim.
 

Richard Thomas, 27, collapsed and had to be admitted to hospital when Manchester police told him about his victim's condition after the attack in July.
 
Thomas broke in to the house of the woman, whom he knew, and forced himself on her while she was asleep. The victim, who lives in Leigh, Manchester, had taken a sleeping pill shortly before the attack. She woke up to find him raping her.
 
Thomas knew the woman had a medical condition but was ignorant of the underlying cause. The Bolton News reported he had been drinking and taking drugs earlier that night.

Defending counsel Virginia Hayton told Liverpool Crown Court: "It is his own fault, if he had not committed this offence he would not have placed himself in this position."
 

Thomas admitted raping the woman, after saying "she would not lie, she tells the truth. If she says I have done it, I have done it."
 
Hayton added that Thomas "is remorseful and cannot understand why he did it and it is troubling him."
 
Jailing Thomas for five years and four months, Judge Mark Brown branded his crime a "dreadful offence" and ordered him to sign the sex offenders register for life. Test results this week are expected to reveal whether or not he has HIV/Aids.

Nation Of Sickos: Should We Be Concerned About The Moral Collapse Of America?

How bad does it have to get before we admit that America is an absolute cesspool of filth and wickedness?  The horrific Navy Yard shooting that took place on Monday is yet another reminder that the thin veneer of civilization that we all take for granted is rapidly disappearing.  At this point, nobody is fully safe anywhere in the United States at any time.  Sadly, the Navy Yard shooting was far from an isolated incident.  Every day, there are news reports that detail some of the most heinous crimes that you could possibly imagine.  In this article, you are going to read about incredibly disturbing things that sickos have done to animals, young children and elderly Americans.  The goal is not to entertain you.  Rather, I hope to spark a discussion about the moral collapse of America.  The United States has become a nation of perverts, sickos and psychopaths, and we need to ask ourselves some very honest questions about why this is happening.  No matter what other solutions we may come up with politically and economically, this country is not going to have any kind of a future unless we are able to address the moral decay that is rotting the foundations of this nation at an absolutely astounding pace.

Just recently, a beautiful little kitten named Hope was found near a dumpster in suburban Detroit.  According to the Huffington Post, experts believe that someone viciously tortured this precious little cat and set it on fire…

    “We opened up the carrier and stood in complete shock,” said Laura Zain, founder of the nonprofit. “It was the worst thing I’ve ever seen in 25 years of doing this. I’ve never seen something so sadistic, ever.”

    Emaciated, feverish, with pale gums and covered with fleas, Hope’s worst problem was deep, severe burns on her back, sides and ears.

    “She absolutely was set on fire,” Zain said.

    The veterinarian confirmed that Hope had been tortured and set on fire.

How sick and twisted do you have to be to do something like that?

There are other sickos out there that want to do absolutely nightmarish things to our children.

For example, just check out what one man in the Boston area planned to do…

    A Boston-area man, who was planning to kidnap children, lock them in a basement dungeon, **** and eat them, should be imprisoned for at least 27 years, federal authorities said in court documents filed this week.

    Geoffrey Portway pleaded guilty in May to distribution and possession of child pornography and solicitation to commit a crime of violence, according to court documents. He is scheduled to be sentenced on September 17.

    “Portway has pled guilty to some of the most vile and heinous crimes known to our society,” federal prosecutors wrote in a sentencing recommendation.

I am normally not squeamish when it comes to describing the evil that is overtaking our society, but what this monster was planning to do to children is so horrific that I cannot even include it in this article.

    In July, 93-year-old native Nebraskan Louise Sollowin was brutally murdered in the home she lived in for more than 70 years. She was beaten and raped, allegedly by a 19-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico.

The following is how a local Iowa paper described the crime…

    After being arrested Sergio, through an interpreter, reportedly admitted to beating and raping Louise. He said he had been drinking heavily and was “angry with women.” He stated he had been working as a roofer. The autopsy report listed “blunt force trauma, broken cheekbones, head injuries, broken teeth, broken ribs and a broken nose.” Sergio had never met the grandmother prior to the attack. The police report stated there was blood on “walls, floor, ceiling and bed.”

How far gone do you have to be to treat a 93-year-old woman that way?

Unfortunately, a lot of the time our only “help” comes from the police, and often they are some of the sickest ones of all.  In California, police officers routinely take injured dogs and cats out to the shooting range and shoot them…

    Animal lovers are questioning a policy where Merced Police officers take injured animals out to the police shooting range to kill them.

    The penal code has been on the books for decades. Some officers say it’s the most humane thing you can do, while others call it barbaric.

    Officers use deadly force to save the lives of others, but what about shooting severely injured dogs or cats found on the street?

And of course some of the worst sickos of all are walking the halls of power in Washington.  I have written dozens of articles about the corruption of our politicians, and now those same politicians want to start a war with Syria and use the U.S. military to help murderous jihadists that are loyal to al-Qaeda take over Syria.

The brutality of these so-called “rebels” knows no limits.  Just check out the following example from the Daily Mail…

    The sword rests briefly on his neck as a blindfolded man kneels under a clear blue sky.

    Moments later, the executioner raises his right arm, slashes downwards and the prisoner is dead.

    The whole barbaric episode is watched by a crowd of jeering men, many of them armed.

    And sitting on a low wall only a few feet from where the wretched captive died so violently is a line of young boys.

    They were still there as the dead man’s head was dumped on his body.

This is who Barack Obama wants us to be allied with?

As I noted the other day, these psychotic predators are ruthlessly murdering Christians, using chemical weapons and dismembering little girls.

But none of that bothers Barack Obama.

In fact, it has been announced that we are going to be giving even more help to these human monsters…

    The US, UK and France have agreed to bolster Syrian rebels by providing more help, press Syria into delivering on its promise to hand over chemical weapons and seek an end to the conflict, which would involve ousting of President Bashar Assad.

It is hard to find words to describe how foolish that is.

But this is what is happening to our society.  We celebrate sin and we have almost lost all sense of what right and wrong are.

For instance, do you remember that disgusting performance that Miley Cyrus put on at the video music awards a while back?

Well, now ticket sales for her events are soaring.  Everyone wants to see her.

Fortunately, there are at least a few people out there that were willing to stand up and speak out against what they saw that evening.  The following are a few examples from some of the complaints that were sent to the federal government…

* “My family was horrified by this performance.”

* “She should be banned from all TV performances in the future!”

* Cyrus was “acting like a devil flicking that tongue as deamons do.”

* Cyrus engaged in “implied sexual acts with bears.”

* “The scars on our childrens minds cannot be easily erased.”

* Woman’s 10-year-old girl “was compelled to bury her head under the covers.”

* “Good heavens! I’m certainly no prude, but even I was shocked.”

* Cyrus appeared “under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”

* “Just disgusting and almost made me want to puke.”

* “As an educator I have to stand up and say, ‘Enough is enough.’”

But of course those comments represent the “lunatic religious fringe”, right?

Because these days America has no problem with performers such as Miley Cyrus.

In fact, we celebrate them.

Unfortunately, the truth is that Miley Cyrus is simply a reflection of what is happening to our families and to our society as a whole.

At this point, the family in America is in the worst shape that it ever has been before.  The following are just a few statistics that show this…

-More than half of the women under the age of 30 that are giving birth in America today are unmarried.

-For couples that have children that are just “living together”, two-thirds of them split up by the time they have a child turn 10 years of age.

-At this point, approximately one out of every three children in the United States lives in a home without a father.

    A homeless man turned in a backpack with $2,400 in cash, $39,500 in travelers checks and a passport that he found at South Bay Mall in Dorchester.

    Boston Police officers at South Bay Mall were flagged down by the man in front of the TJ Maxx Store.

    The man said he found a black backpack that contained a large sum of money and a passport in the front of the store.

Throughout the 1990's, which was supposedly the "prosperity" decade, and during the Bush Jr years(the 8 years where the country was under the impression a "bible believing Christian" was running the country) - there was a lot of this stuff you see in society in our present day that I and many others saw in entertainment products(movies, tv shows, music, video games, etc). And if memory serves, when I attended movies with this content, people in the theater were laughing at times.

If anything, this was conditioning on the masses going on for a long time.

And let's not forget about the NIV bible(the perversion of all of the perversions at the time) was put in the market in 1978, which lead to more reprobate bibles like the NKJV after that, and Churchianity ultimately embraced.

13 people, including 3-year-old boy, shot at South Side park

Thirteen people, including a 3-year-old boy who suffered a gunshot wound to the head, were shot at a Chicago park in the Back of the Yards neighborhood Thursday night, authorities said.
 
Ten adults and the 3-year-old were transported by Fire Department ambulances after the attack in the 1800 block of West 51st Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, said Fire Department Deputy District Chief James Mungovan at the scene. A 12th victim was believed to have driven himself to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, a source said, citing preliminary information.
 
Police said later a total of 13 people were shot, the boy, two teens, and 10 adults, with the boy the most seriously wounded. The boy suffered a gunshot wound to the head at an ear that exited through his mouth, and was in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

The attack took place about 10:15 p.m. and fire officials called an Emergency Medical Services Plan II, sending at least 10 ambulances to the scene.
 
Chicago police were making no information about what happened public, except to say that the shooting appeared to be gang-related. The shootings took place on a basketball court on the 51st Street side of Cornell Square Park near Wood Street.
 
A witness at the scene said three police officers carried the child to an ambulance.
 
"I didn't hear no sounds," from the child, he said.
 
Family members identified the boy as Deonta' Howard, whose uncle was shot to death on Labor Day, Sept. 2.
 
Deonta'--pronounced Deontay--nicknamed Tay Man, has a dislike for haircuts, one cousin said.
 
"He didn't like haircuts because he has a big head," said Porsche Chester, a cousin of the boy's. "But he is extremely smart. He didn't have that (head) for nothing."
 
Three of the victims, including the boy, were initially taken to local hospitals in serious-to-critical condition, according to the Fire Department's news office. Four were in fair-to-serious condition, and four were in good-to-fair condition, according to the Fire Department.
 
Ambulances continued to arrive until about half an hour after the shootings took place, as injured people were brought out of the park on stretchers.
 
At the peak, about 60 police officers were on the scene. Police crime lab investigators combed the scene. By about 12:30 a.m. Friday, Chicago firefighters used hoses to clean blood from the basketball court at the park.
 
The victims' ages, sexes and injuries were, according to Police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines:
 •The 3-year-old boy, shot in the ear, in critical condition at Mount Sinai;
 •A 17-year-old girl, shot in the foot, condition stabilized at Holy Cross Hospital;
 •A 15-year-old boy shot in the arm, stabilized at Holy Cross;
 •A man, 27, shot in the leg and wrist, serious condition at Mount Sinai;
 •A man, 24, shot twice in the stomach, serious condition at Mount Sinia;
 •A man, 21, shot in the leg, serious condition at Mount Sinai;
 •A man, 41, shot in the buttocks, serious condition at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital;
 •A woman, 33, shot in the shoulder, condition stabilized at Northwestern Memorial Hospital;
 •A man, 31, shot in the buttocks, condition stabilized at Northwestern;
 •A woman, 23, shot in the foot, condition stabilized at St. Anthony Hospital;
 •A man, 37, shot in the leg, in good condition at Stroger;
 •A man, 25, shot in the knee, in good condition at Northwestern;
 •And a man, 33, who drove himself to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park with a gunshot wound to the leg and who was treated and released.

Teens playing violent and deadly 'Knockout Game'

•Three New Jersey teens charged with killing homeless man
•Game involves targeting innocent bystanders with random assaults
•The game is also known as ‘Knockout King,’ ‘Pick ‘em out and knock ‘em down’

It’s been around for several years, but recent headlines seem to indicate a resurgence of teens playing the “Knockout Game.” It involves a group of people, typically teenaged males, running up to an unsuspecting stranger and trying to knock him or her unconscious with one punch.

It has resulted in at least three reported deaths in the last two years. Last week, two 13-year-olds and a 14-year-old were charged with murdering a New Jersey homeless man in a so-called “knockout.” Earlier this year, a St. Louis man was sentenced to life in prison for the Knockout Game death of a 72-year-old Vietnamese immigrant.

A 2011 editorial in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch likened the game to behavior described in "A Clockwork Orange," the 1962 dystopian novel about the violent exploits of disaffected youth in author Anthony Burgess’ vision of near-future England.

St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay helped rescue a man who was viciously attacked in a Knockout Game. Slay’s words of advice?

"When you see a group of 12 to 15 youths hanging out, walking together, not really doing anything in particular, you should call the police just so these kids, these thugs out there, know they’re being watched," he told HLN affiliate KMOX.

5 Wounded in NYC Bike Path Stabbing, Including Toddler

An apparently homeless, emotionally disturbed man went on a rampage with scissors along a busy bike path on Tuesday, slashing or stabbing five people, including a 1-year-old boy.
 
The victims – the child plus two women and two men in their 30s – were expected to survive, though one of the women was listed in critical condition.
 
Witnesses heard screaming and a child crying at about 8 a.m. in Manhattan’s Riverside Park along the Hudson River near West 65th Street, an elegantly landscaped stretch of greenery flanked by luxury residential high-rises.
 
After the surprise attack on a sunny fall morning, police officers grabbed a suspect and took him into custody.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly identified him as Julius Graham, a 43-year-old Texas native who had been living in a Bronx shelter. Kelly said he used half a pair of scissors in the attack.
 
According to the police commissioner, Graham first approached a jogger and stabbed her in the back. Police said he also attacked a man walking his dog, then a woman running along the path, stabbing her in the neck.
 
Finally, Graham attacked a man pushing his son in a stroller, Kelly said. Graham stabbed the man in the chest as he faced the attacker to protect his son and slashed the boy in the arm, Kelly said.

Graham was taken to a hospital for evaluation and couldn’t be reached for comment.
 
A New York City Park Advocates spokesman, Geoffrey Croft, called the attack the latest episode in a “troubling trend” of violence in city parks.
 
He noted that a mother pushing a stroller along the Henry Hudson Parkway in Fort Tryon Park in Upper Manhattan was attacked by a homeless man last week. At least two bicyclists were attacked a week apart in August along the Hudson River around 163rd Street, and two other people were slashed south of 60th Street a month earlier, Croft said.

Croft said the advocacy group has been calling for more park enforcement for years. He said there are 80 security officers patrolling the city’s parks, with another 80 recently hired. In the 1990s, there were 450 parks security officers, he said.
 
When asked about the spate of attacks, the police commissioner said city parks are “very, very safe.” He said that although authorities are concerned about the recent crime, “the amount of incidents of crime in parks is minuscule.”
 
Jason Santos, a biker from Queens, said he wouldn’t use the bike path as much because of the most recent attack.
 
Edlin Pitts, a Manhattan resident who uses the path daily, said he had been cognizant of safety at night, “but this happened during the day, and I’m concerned.”
 
Yellow police tape and park security on Tuesday closed access to the path. All that was left from the attack was the child’s abandoned stroller.

Fast-Food Customer Irate Over Ranch Dip Charge

Police say a Seattle fast-food customer who wanted three packets of ranch dressing but learned he would have to pay for the third flew into a rage and attacked a 68-year-old man who tried to calm things down.

On their website, police say the ranch fan at a Jack in the Box restaurant started yelling about being overcharged when he was told the third packet would cost 25 cents.

Trying to prevent a scene, the cashier gave the customer a third container of dressing Monday but that didn’t sooth him.

At that point, a 68-year-old customer who had heard all this stepped in but the irate customer shoved that man to the ground. Police say the 68-year-old was not seriously hurt.

The angry customer mumbled something about having a knife, climbed on a purple bike and rode away.

Second US teacher murdered in 48 hours

New York City (AFP) - A young woman was found dead Wednesday, the second American teacher alleged to have been murdered by a young student in less than 48 hours in the United States, officials said.

Colleen Ritzer, 24, a math teacher at Danvers High School in Massachusetts, was reported missing Tuesday after failing to return home or answer her cell phone.

Philip Chism, 14, appeared in court Wednesday, charged with assaulting, beating and murdering her.

He was ordered held without bail and would be tried as an adult, said a spokeswoman for the district attorney.

Police discovered blood in the second floor bathroom of the Danvers High School and found her body in nearby woods, said Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett.

"It was apparent that she is a homicide victim. She was a teacher here at Danvers High School. This is a terrible tragedy," he told a news conference.

Chism was picked up police while walking north along a highway in the early hours.

The teen had not returned home after school on Tuesday and had been reported missing to police.

Danvers is a small town half an hour's drive north of Boston. Public schools were closed there on Wednesday.

On Monday, a 12-year-old boy fatally shot dead a math teacher and critically wounded two students at a school in the US state of Nevada.

Michael Landsberry, a 45-year-old former Marine who had served in Afghanistan, was killed after confronting the young shooter, allowing other students to flee.

The boy then took his own life by turning his 9 mm semi-automatic handgun on himself at the Sparks Middle School in Reno.

Movies from the 1980s like “Terminator” or “Die Hard” were rated R at the time of their release – but if they were released today, they’d probably be rated PG-13, a new study suggests.

That's because PG-13 movies today — such as “The Hunger Games” or “The Avengers” — contain more violence than the R-rated films of the 1980s, according to a new report published today in the journal Pediatrics. In particular, gun violence in PG-13 films has tripled since 1985, the year the PG-13 rating was first introduced. And overall, violence in movies has nearly quadrupled since the 1950s.

Psychologists say it’s a worrisome trend that we should take seriously, because there is evidence that watching violence on screen increases aggression in real life.

“Of course it’s not the only factor, and it may not even be the most important factor, but it isn’t a trivial factor — and it’s one we can change," says Brad Bushman, an Ohio State University psychologist and lead author of the new report.

Bushman and colleagues analyzed 945 popular films released from 1950 to 2012. Each movie was among the 30 top-grossing films of that year, and they randomly chose 15 of those top 30 movies to scrutinize. Undergrads watched every film and counted every violent act — they defined a violent sequence as “physical acts where the aggressor makes or attempts to make some physical contact with the intention of causing injury or death.”

They found that since 2009, PG-13 movies have featured as much or more violence than the R-rated films released those same years. And in 2012, there was more gun violence in PG-13 films than in the R-rated ones out that year.

Take the “Die Hard” sequels. One of the films the undergrads analyzed was 1990’s “Die Hard 2,” which was rated R. But a later sequel in the series, 2007’s “Live Free or Die Hard,” actually had more gun violence and a comparable amount of overall violence—and yet it was rated PG-13.

Same idea with the “Terminator” movies: The third one in the series, “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines,” was included in the study— it got an R rating in 2003. But they found that it had less gun violence than 2009’s “Terminator Salvation,” which received a PG-13 rating.

One more example that really jumped out at study co-author Dan Romer was the famously violent 1987 film “The Untouchables.”

“It had gun violence in it that was comparable to a lot of the movies we’re calling PG-13 in the last five years,” says Romer, director of the Adolescent Communication Institute at the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg Public Policy Center.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if ‘The Untouchables’ today would get a PG-13.” He thinks the same would apply to the Eddie Murphy comedy “Beverly Hills Cop,” which was rated R in 1984, but feels more like today’s PG-13 movies in terms of violence.

“There are exceptions, but in the top-grossing films, over 90 percent of them have some violence,” Romer says. “Violence is very good for Hollywood. And PG-13 is good for Hollywood, because it doesn’t restrict anyone from going into the theater.”

There are a few things that might explain the remarkable rise in violence in PG-13 films. Ratings are determined by the Motion Picture Association of America — which means, Bushman says, they’re “assigned by the industry.” (The MPAA declined to comment on the study, but you can read more about the ratings system here.)

And a movie rated PG-13 will attract more theatergoers than an R, of course, because kids can go see it. Romer also thinks the rise in sci-fi and comic book movies has something to do with it —violence may be easier for us to handle if it’s got a fantasy element to it. And violence is understandable in every language, which means violence-fueled action movies are more marketable overseas than comedies.

The researchers also examined graphic sexual scenes in the movies they analyzed, and found that sex was much more likely to earn a film an R-rating than violence. “Take a film like ‘Ted.’ There’s hardly any violence in that. But because he has sex—not even very graphic sex, they just show him having sex — that gets an R,” Romer says.

It's worth noting that there is also a lot of crude language in that movie, which can also garner a film an R rating. “(Sex) consistently gets an R rating if it’s at all explicit, but that’s not the case with violence," Romer says.

We don’t like the idea that violent movies —or TV shows or video games — influence our behavior. But many studies have suggested that they do. One often-cited 1967 study found that the mere sight of a gun made people act with more hostility, deciding to deliver a harsher electric shock to another study participant. More than 50 other studies since have found similar evidence of the “weapons effect” — the idea that just seeing a weapon can increase aggression.

“People tell me all the time, I watch violent media and I’ve never killed anyone. Well, big deal. Nobody kills anyone; murder is a very rare event,” says Bushman. “So you’ve never murdered anyone. What I want to know is —how do you treat other people?”

**Or look at the public's reactions to violent events like 9/11(or others in recent years like the Boston Marathon bombing) - more times than not it's that of apathy, b/c the everyone's been conditioned by the entertainment media. It's in that "New Order Barbarians" interview where a doctor was invited to a closed-door meeting with a Planned Parenthood director in the late 60's - he spilled the beans over every little NWO agenda. One of them being that they would put a lot of violence in the media to disensithize(sp) the public to where they react apathetically to tragic events.

Watching violent images doesn’t always make us more likely to want to punch things; it can also make us less likely to help people in need, Bushman found in a 2009 study. This is true for all of us, but psychologists agree that children are particularly vulnerable.

Bushman would like to eventually see movie ratings in the U.S. decided by a panel that includes child psychologists, with ratings that clearly spell out which ages the movie is appropriate for. But until then, parents who are worried about their kids seeing violent images on screen can take a few pages from Bushman’s book.

For one, he blocks all violent and sexual content online. He also encourages parents to do their homework – if the kids want to see a movie or buy a video game, Google it first. Scenes from many popular video games are available on YouTube, for example. And parents should also always explain their decision to their kids.

Recently, after reviewing his own son’s birthday wish list, he told him, “You listed five games, and these three are OK. These other two are not good, and let me show you why. We try to give you healthy choices, and not just for food, but for your media diet as well.”

PG-13 movies match R rating for violence, study says

The prevalence of gun violence in top PG-13 movies has more than tripled since the rating was introduced in the mid-1980s, and last year it eclipsed even the amount in R-rated movies, according to findings to be published Monday in the journal Pediatrics.


“I think most parents would be surprised to learn that,” said Brad Bushman, a professor of communication and psychology at Ohio State University and one of the study’s authors. “We were pretty shocked.”

The authors said their findings are particularly troubling given considerable research into what has been called the “weapons effect,” which suggests that depiction of gun violence in media could lead to more aggressive behavior in the real world.

“We know that movies teach children how adults behave, and they make gun use appear exciting and attractive,” said Dan Romer, another co-author and the director of theAdolescent Communication Instituteof the Annenberg Public Policy Center in Pennsylvania.

To determine how violence — and specifically gun violence — has changed in films over time, researchers chose 945 films sampled from the 30 top-grossing releases each year from 1950 to 2012. Coders sifted through the movies, noting violent sequences.

Researchers said they excluded violence not intended to harm anyone, such as accidents and run-of-the-mill sports aggression. They also excluded activities such as hunting and the use of large-scale weapons such as rocket-propelled grenades and military artillery.

In the end, they found that violence in films had more than doubled since 1950, and that violence had tripled in PG-13 films over the past quarter-century. In addition, while PG-13 movies initially had only about as much violence as G- and PG-rated films, since 2009 they have contained as much violence as R-rated films, or more.

Romer said even though some of the most popular PG-13 films in recent years, such as “The Hunger Games,” “The Dark Knight Rises” and “Snow White and the Huntsman,” are based on comic-book heroes or other fantasy characters, “these films have a lot of violence in them."

“We think that the PG-13 rating is no longer very helpful,” he said. “If they’re going to allow content like that in PG-13 movies . . . it sort of goes against the grain of how they define the difference” compared with an R-rated movie, he added.

The PG-13 rating, introduced in 1984 after an uproar over violence in “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,” indicates that parents should be “strongly cautioned” that some material may not be appropriate for children not yet teenagers. The R rating means anyone under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.

According to the Motion Picture Association of America’s rating system, “there may be depictions of violence in a PG-13 movie, but generally not both realistic and extreme or persistent violence.” By comparison, an R-rated movie could contain “intense or persistent violence.”

An MPAA spokeswoman declined to comment on Monday’s study but referred to information about how the group determines ratings at the Web site FilmRatings.com. The site says that while the ratings are meant to help guide parents about a movie’s content, “it’s ultimately up to you to decide whether a movie is suitable for your family.”

The findings in Monday’s study, the authors write, are “troubling given the large body of research evidence showing that violent media can have harmful effects on children and youth.”

While many scholars agree with that conclusion, others have questioned the link between media violence and real-world violence. Christopher J. Ferguson, chairman of the psychology department at Stetson University, has written that the weight of evidence so far does not merit drawing hard conclusions. “If you are curious whether media violence contributes to violent crime,” Ferguson wrote in 2009, “the simple answer to that is we really don’t know.”

Meanwhile, two California economists, Gordon Dahl and Stefano DellaVigna, found in 2008 that attendance at violent movies actually reduced violent crime in the short term, possibly because they were keeping some at-risk individuals out of bars and off the streets for several hours. But both men said in e-mails that deciphering the long-term effects of media violence is trickier.

Monday’s study “does a good job showing that gun use has increased over time in movies, especially in PG-13 movies,” Dahl said. “But the more important question is whether repeated exposure to media violence increases violent behavior in the long run. This is a difficult question to answer, and not one that I’ve seen a convincing answer to.”

Romer and Bushman emphasized that their findings are not intended to pin violent behavior in young people on increased violence at the movies. But they said the MPAA should at least reevaluate how it rates films with growing amounts of guns and gore.

“I’m not a policymaker. I don’t really care what adults see,” Bushman said. “What I do care about is children exposed to age-inappropriate media. . . . Maybe films that contain excessive gun violence should have an R rating.”

Added Romer: “We think that’s pretty reasonable.”

This is JUST MY OWN observation, but I think I'm seeing how craftily they're pushing the gun control agenda - brainwashing the youth with the violent culture, then as violent crime rises, they have more ammunition to blame the gun industry somehow. They did the same after Columbine.


I remember reading an article about PG-13 movies in 1997 - pretty much they toe the line over how much they put in these particular products.


Saw "The Hunger Games" - there was a scene early in the movie where all of the contestants were attacking each other with knives that was very, VERY hard to look at. Saw the 2008 "The Dark Knight" movie, and was very surprised how violent it was.

Also - where are all of these pro-family groups now? They were very, very vocal throughout the 1990's, and especially after Columbine. But now? You really don't hear a chirp.

NEW YORK (CNN) - A sick so-called game known as "knockout" -- where teens appear to randomly sucker-punch strangers with the goal of knocking them unconscious with a single blow -- is catching the attention of law enforcement throughout the nation.

The assaults can be fatal. In New Jersey, Ralph Santiago, 46, a homeless man, was walking alone in Hoboken on the night of September 10 when he was suddenly struck from behind, said Hoboken Detective Anthony Caruso.

The blow knocked out Santiago, who had a pre-existing brain injury. He suffered a seizure. The victim's body struck a nearby fence, with part of the wrought iron fence piercing his body and killing him, Caruso said.

Surveillance video in the area showed three teens running from the scene. Two weeks later, police arrested the juveniles and charged them in connection with the killing. Caruso said the attack was unprovoked.

Authorities have reported similar incidents in New York, Illinois, Missouri and Washington.

One of the latest attacks happened Friday, when someone was allegedly punched on a street in Brooklyn. Police brought four men in for questioning and arrested 28-year-old Amrit Marajh.

Marajh is charged with aggravated assault as a hate crime, assault as a hate crime and assault in the 3rd degree, police said. He was arraigned Saturday, according to Mia Goldberg, spokeswoman for the Kings County District Attorney's Office.

Youth violence expert Chuck Williams blamed the media and parents for what he called extreme aggression by America's youth. Negative attention, he said, is often rewarded.

"That's America. America loves violence and so do our kids," Williams said. "We market violence to our children and we wonder why they're violent. It's because we are."

Williams, a professor of psychology and education at Drexel University in Philadelphia, said some young people are desperate for attention. He called it the "Miley Cyrus effect," where teens will do anything to get noticed, no matter how heinous or unconscionable.

"These kids know the consequences," he said. "They want to get arrested. They want to get caught, because they want that notoriety. They know they won't go away forever because they're kids. It's a win-win all around for them."

In New York, police noted seven "knockout" incidents this fall alone. Some of the incidents were allegedly directed specifically at Jewish people and thus classified as hate crimes, said police spokesman Sgt. Brendan Ryan.

Despite the recent assaults, Ryan cautioned that police in New York haven't yet seen evidence of a "knockout" trend.

"We know that NYPD, and especially the Hate Crime Task Force, are working swiftly to find the alleged perpetrators of these incidents," said Evan Bernstein, the Anti-Defamation League's New York regional director, referring to a spate of assaults in parts of Brooklyn.

Rabbi Yaacov Behrman, a resident of Brooklyn's Crown Heights neighborhood and executive director of the Jewish Future Alliance, said many of the assault victims are children. Behrman met with black leaders last week to discuss the issue.

"Kids talk, especially on social media. There's a buzz about this," said Behrman.

New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly on Wednesday deployed additional police officers to Crown Heights, a Brooklyn neighborhood where eight "knockout" attacks have occurred, including an assault on a 78-year-old woman, police said.

In Pittsburgh, police spokeswoman Diane Richard said reports of the "knockout" game in the area first surfaced last year.

In October 2012, an English teacher was strolling through an alley in Pittsburgh to his parked car, Richard said. The teacher, James Addlespurger, 50, was approached by a group of teens, Richard said.

One of the teens punched Addlespurger in the face. The teacher fell and struck his head on the concrete ground. The assault, like so many others, was caught on video surveillance tape, and a 15-year-old was later arrested, Richard said. It is unclear whether the assault was part of a specific game.

Kelly, the New York police commissioner, said he is concerned about copycats in his city in the wake of recent news reports.

"When you highlight an incident or a type of criminal activity, some people will simply try to copy it," the commissioner said Friday. "It's a phenomenon we've seen before."

Republican New York State Assemblyman Jim Tedisco on Wednesday proposed new legislation he's calling the "Knockout Assault Deterrent Act," calling for juveniles charged with the random assaults to be tried as adults.

"Violence like this should not be condoned no matter the age of the offender," Tedisco said in a statement. "Youth should not be an excuse for this kind of behavior."

At the same time, Detective Brian Sessa said that it "is yet to be determined" whether the alleged assaults in New York were isolated or part of a larger phenomenon. And since Santiago's death in Hoboken, police there said they have not seen any other such incidents in the area.

Richard warned that people who seem distracted -- checking smartphones or listening to music while walking -- can be more vulnerable to assaults.

In New York last week, Jewish and African-American community leaders met in an effort to smooth relations among young people. "Knockout" assaults were a big part of the discussion.

"To go around and harm just anybody on the premise that you want to show your bravado is not to be accepted in our community, in Crown Heights, in Brownsville or anywhere else for that matter," community activist Tony Herbert told CNN affiliate WCBS. "Keep your hands to yourself. That is stupid."

Cowboys fan beaten unconscious following win over Raiders

The Thanksgiving celebration following the Dallas Cowboys' 31-24 win over the Oakland Raiders quickly took a sour turn Thursday night.

One Cowboys fan was reportedly beaten unconscious by four Raiders fans, according to the Dallas Morning News, following the conclusion of the game.

The unidentified man was found on the sidewalk at Cowboy Way and AT&T Way.

No arrests have been made, and an investigation is underway, but police have had a hard time getting witnesses to come forward. Police are still trying to figure out if the attackers wore Raiders jerseys, though it is known that the victim was wearing a Cowboys jersey, according to the report.

Police spokesperson Tiara Richard said, "Officers attempted to find witnesses but had none willing to come forward last night." According to FOX 4 in Dallas-Fort Worth, the Cowboys organization is aware of the incident and is helping investigators gather more information.

Richard also said the man was taken to a local hospital by ambulance but did not suffer any life-threatening injuries.

According to multiple reports, this is the first known fan violence incident at AT&T Stadium.

Planning to take the kids to a PG-13 movie this holiday season? If so, one thing you’ll likely see in the film is gun violence. That’s because a recent study in the scientific journal, “Pediatrics” found that gun violence in PG-13 films has tripled since the rating was first introduced in 1985. Some people are concerned that if teenagers are repeatedly exposed to guns onscreen they may become emotionally desensitized to violence. The solution, argues one of the study’s authors, is to give these films R-ratings instead of PG-13. The dilemma of how to rate movies properly goes back decades. In 1930, Hollywood began policing itself with a system known as the Hays Code. The code involved a series guidelines spelling out themes that couldn’t be shown onscreen, such as nudity, suggestive dancing, the mocking of religion, and drug use. By 1968, societal standards had changed and so the Motion Picture Association of America came up with the modern rating system. An MPAA committee, known as the Classification and Rating Administration, screens the film and determines the rating. There are currently five MPAA ratings: G for General Audience, PG for Parental Guidance Suggested, PG-13 meaning some material may be inappropriate for children under 13, R for Restricted -- people under 17 must be accompanied by an adult – and NC-17, meaning no one under 17 admitted. Even within the MPAA system, ratings standards can be fluid. In 2007, the MPAA announced that it would more strongly consider the amount of onscreen smoking in its rating decisions. Broncos-Chargers game ends with several stabbings

Several people were stabbed in a parking lot outside the Sports Authority Stadium Field at Mile High at the end of the Denver Broncos matchup with the San Diego Chargers.

Police spokesman Steve Warneke said one of the victims was in critical condition, CBS News reported. Two other men were taken to the hospital with stab wounds, but were conscious and talking, he said. And another man may have been stabbed, too, but he left the scene before emergency responders arrived.

Several suspects were taken into custody for questioning, police said, CBS reported.

The San Diego Chargers beat the Broncos, 27-20.

Mr. Warneke said the scene after the game ended was “very chaotic” and it’s still not clear what started the fight. Other officers at the scene, however, told a CBS affiliate, the local KCNC-TV, that the stabbings came after groups of people in two different vehicles starting arguing.

Stadium Management Company said it’s cooperating with police — but this is just the latest in a string of violence that’s plagued crowds attending professional sporting events in recent months.

In Kansas City, Mo., a man died earlier this month after a fight broke out in the Arrowhead Stadium parking lot during a Kansas City game with Denver, CBS said. And in San Francisco in September, a teenager suffered a concussion and a broken nose and arm after he was attacked at the 49ers’ game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Some people may have taken the Broncos at home defeat to the Chargers too personally in a bizarre turn of events. As fans were leaving the stadium, several of men  became mixed up in a confrontation that resulted in multiple stabbings. Denver police have confirmed three individuals were hospitalized due to stab wounds. One of the men was said to be in critical condition. There are also reports of a possible fourth victim, but no one has been identified as of yet. The three men thought to be responsible for the attack are in police custody.

The incident was first reported a few minutes before 10:00PM. The authorities are continuing to interview witnesses in an attempt to figure out exactly what lead to the bloody encounter.

Says Denver police spokesman Sgt. Steve Warneke, “Detectives will be interviewing people throughout the night, trying to sort out who did what.” Stadium officials had promised in an official statement that they will work with authorities to “gather more information” regarding the incident.

Even though the mystery surrounding the confrontation has yet to be revealed, there is good reason to assume it’s crazy sports fans acting out.

In September at a 49ers game,  a man was hospitalized following a fight that allegedly stemmed from his having urinated on another man’s car. During the same game a woman claimed to have been attacked by a rival female fan. One of the more memorably chilling fan encounters occurred about a decade ago, where a man was shot and killed over a disagreement involving baseball teams.

In fact, fan violence over sports is increasingly the norm these days. There are few things that bring passions higher than sports, but at some point, one has to take a step back. Is a favorite team really worth spilling the blood of a total stranger? Is it worth spending the rest of your life in jail?

These are likely questions the apprehended are asking themselves right now, if it turns out to have been yet another pointless fan confrontation. The truth of the matter should be revealed in the coming days.

"Football has never been safer."

That’s the sentiment the NFL shared Tuesday morning in a statement from Jeff Miller, the league's senior vice president of health and safety policy, after San Francisco 49ers linebacker Chris Borland announced his surprising retirement on Monday night.

Borland, 24, is coming off a great rookie year in San Francisco, but decided to step away from the game due to fears for his long-term health.

Here is Miller’s statement, in full:

“We respect Chris Borland’s decision and wish him all the best. Playing any sport is a personal decision. By any measure, football has never been safer and we continue to make progress with rule changes, safer tackling techniques at all levels of football, and better equipment, protocols and medical care for players. Concussions in NFL games were down 25 percent last year, continuing a three-year downward trend. We continue to make significant investments in independent research to advance the science and understanding of these issues. We are seeing a growing culture of safety. Everyone involved in the game knows that there is more work to do and player safety will continue to be our top priority.”
While the NFL has made significant improvements and paid closer attention to player safety in recent years, more and more is being discovered about the long-term impact associated with head injuries.

Borland told ESPN’s "Outside the Lines" that he has done his research on the issues at hand.

"I just honestly want to do what's best for my health," Borland said. "From what I've researched and what I've experienced, I don't think it's worth the risk.

“I just thought to myself, 'What am I doing?' Is this how I'm going to live my adult life, banging my head, especially with what I've learned and knew about the dangers?"

Borland is the fourth player in the last week to retire at age 30 or younger

Men Who Played High School Contact Sports at Risk for Brain Injury

Researchers have discovered that a neurodegenerative disease linked to pro football players is also showing up in men who played high school contact sports.

Scientists from the Mayo Clinic have discovered that about one-third of men who played contact sports and whose brains had been donated to the Mayo Clinic brain bank had evidence of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), which is caused by repeated brain trauma.

Symptoms of CTE include memory loss, aggression, suicidal thoughts, depression, and dementia, although the only way to officially diagnose CTE is after death, when brain tissue can be analyzed for an abnormal protein called Tau.

CTE has famously been linked to NFL players: The disease has shown up in several former NFL players who committed suicide, including Junior Seau and Terry Long. Family members of Frank Gifford, who died in August, recently announced that the former player suffered from CTE, and former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has said he suspects he may have the disease.

For the latest research, which was published in the journal Acta Neuropathologica, Mayo scientists analyzed clinical records of more than 1,700 cases in their brain bank.

Researchers found 66 men who had participated in contact sports during their youth. Of those men, 32 percent showed evidence of CTE.

By comparison, none of 198 brains of people who didn’t have documentation of participating in contact sports had CTE, including those of 66 women.

Lead study author Kevin Bieniek, a predoctoral student in the Mayo Graduate School’s Neurobiology of Disease program, tells Yahoo Health that the study was launched after he noticed that a man in the brain bank who had evidence of CTE had played high school football.

He calls the findings “surprising,” noting that CTE was discovered among former players of several contact sports such as football, boxing, wrestling, rugby, basketball, and baseball. While the overall numbers are low and therefore too small to show statistical significance, Bieniek notes that more football players had CTE than players of any other sport.

Not everyone who plays contact sports and suffers head injuries will develop CTE, but Bieniek and his team found two genetic markers that may increase a person’s risk of developing the disease.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it’s unknown how common or prevalent CTE is among the general population. However, a study of 3,439 NFL players from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health found that former players were more than three times more likely than the general population to develop a brain or nervous system disorder.

CTE was the subject of a major lawsuit against the NFL by thousands of former pro football players and their families. The 2013 settlement reportedly required the NFL to pay $765 million to fund medical exams, concussion-related compensation, and medical research for retired players and their families.

Naturally, this raises the question: Should parents discourage their kids from playing contact sports? Bieniek says no.

“There are so many positive benefits of sports,” he says. “I don’t know that there’s necessarily imminent threats of CTE, but the study is good in that it raises awareness both for scientists and the general public that CTE might be more common than we thought.”

However, he says the findings underscore moves that are already being made in contact sports — specifically, limiting head to head contact and encouraging players to wear better, more protective sports equipment.

Bieniek says scientists don’t currently know how many hits or what type of hits it takes until a person develops CTE, but it’s currently being studied. “Just awareness of this is really important,” he says.

(Reuters Health) - Concussion rates vary widely across youth sports, with the greatest injury risk in higher-contact games like rugby, hockey and football, a new research review finds.

Overall, young athletes experienced an average of no more than one concussion for roughly every 5,000 minutes of participation time, according to the analysis of previous research on injuries in popular youth sports. That amounts to around one injury for every 67 hours of practice and competition.

The concussion rate was about 18 times higher than average for rugby, five times greater for hockey, and roughly double for American football, the study found.

“This is likely because rugby, hockey and American football are all sports that involve more frequent contact to the body and head,” said senior study author Paul Ronksley of the University of Calgary in Canada.

“Contact sports such as these pose a greater risk to athletes for sustaining head trauma while activities such as volleyball, baseball and cheerleading inherently involve less contact or opportunity for both purposeful and accidental collision between players,” Ronksley added by email.

Even though the overall concussion rate may not seem high, these injuries still impact many children and teens. As many as 45 million youth participate in sports outside of school, and at least 7 million U.S. teens play high school sports each year, the researchers report in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

Ronksley examined the relative concussion risk for some of the most popular youth sports: American football, rugby, hockey, lacrosse, soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, wrestling, field hockey, track, taekwondo, volleyball and cheerleading.

Altogether, they reviewed data from 23 previously published studies on concussions in these sports, and then did a pooled analysis of injury rates from 13 of the prior studies.

For each of the sports, they looked at concussion rates based on minutes of athletic exposure (AE), which includes competitions or practices with the potential for injury.

The overall concussion risk across all of the sports included in the analysis was 0.23 injuries per 1,000 AEs.

By comparison, the concussion risk per 1,000 AEs for rugby was 4.18, while it was 1.2 for hockey and 0.53 for American football.

At the lower end of the spectrum in terms of injury potential, the concussion risk per 1,000 AEs for volleyball was 0.03, while it was 0.06 for baseball and 0.07 for cheerleading.

One shortcoming of the study is that the researchers based calculations on assumptions about total participation time in some sports, which may have overestimated the risk of concussions in hockey. It may be more in line with football, the authors concede, nonetheless, these sports, along with rugby, would still be the activities with the highest concussion risk.

Researchers also lacked data on the injury risk based on age or information on how many concussions occurred during practices versus competitions.

“Concussions can occur in any sport,” noted Tamara Valovich McLeod, co-author of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association position statement on management of sport concussions and director of athletic training programs at A.T. Still University in Mesa, Arizona.

“It makes sense with higher levels of contact to have higher concussion rates, but that doesn’t mean kids should stop playing sports,” Valovich McLeod, who wasn’t involved in the study, said by email.

Parents should ensure that teams and leagues in which their children compete promote safety, which might include having an athletic trainer to evaluate and manage injuries as well as emergency action plans for handling concussions and prevention education for athletes and families.

“There are numerous physical, social, and psychological benefits for children and adolescents who participate in sports,” Valovich McLeod added.

Antwaan Randle El had the type of football career that almost anyone would envy.

He was a star at Indiana, finishing sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting in 2001. A college quarterback, Randle El transitioned into a fine NFL career as a receiver, playing nine seasons with 4,467 yards and 15 touchdowns. He won a Super Bowl ring with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and had the signature play of Super Bowl XL with a touchdown pass on a trick play to Hines Ward. He signed three NFL contracts worth about $41 million, and although he didn't get all of that money, he got enough to be financially secure for the rest of his life. He used that money to help found Virginia Academy, a high school in Ashburn, Va. He is the school's athletic director.

And if he had the choice, he'd have never played football.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette quoted Randle El as saying “If I could go back, I wouldn’t” play football (via the Washington Post). Randle El, who was also a very good baseball and basketball player, said he would have played baseball. He was a 14th-round pick by the Chicago Cubs in 1997.

"Don’t get me wrong, I love the game of football," Randle El told the Post-Gazette. "But right now, I could still be playing baseball.”

That might be overstating things — Randle El will turn 37 this year, and 14th-round picks are far from locks to make the majors considering first-round picks often fall short in baseball. But it's not just regret that he missed out on a great baseball career.

Football took a toll on him. Randle El said he has trouble walking down steps and has memory lapses.

“I ask my wife things over and over again, and she’s like, ‘I just told you that,’" Randle El told the Post-Gazette. “I’ll ask her three times the night before and get up in the morning and forget. Stuff like that. I try to chalk it up as I’m busy, I’m doing a lot, but I have to be on my knees praying about it, asking God to allow me to not have these issues and live a long life. I want to see my kids raised up. I want to see my grandkids.”

Randle El talked in the article about the dangers of concussions and spinal injuries and how he tells parents, "You can have the right helmet, the perfect pads on, and still end up with a paraplegic kid." Randle El said it wouldn't surprise him if football isn't around in 20 or 25 years.

Football is doing just fine, averaging more than 36 million television viewers for the four playoff games last weekend. But it's startling when a player whose football career resulted in fame, fortune and a Super Bowl ring wishes he had never played.

For the better part of a year, Mark Rosekind has sounded the alarm on the rising carnage on America’s roads. In speeches delivered before audiences of automotive executives, transportation officials, and safety advocates, the administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has warned of a spike in traffic fatalities and repeatedly equated the weekly toll on U.S. roads to the crash of a Boeing 747 on a weekly basis.

Sadly, that comparison is now outdated.

The latest traffic-fatality figures released this week show that 35,092 people were killed on public roads in 2015, an average of 672 every week, which is beyond the capacity of the jumbo jet in its highest-passenger configuration.

That Rosekind must now revise one of his most grim talking points is indicative of the surge in traffic deaths occurring across the country. The latest annual statistics represent a 7.2-percent increase from the 32,744 recorded in 2014, the fastest one-year rise in a half-century. Not since an 8.1-percent increase from 1965 to 1966 has there been such a spike.

"If we don’t accept that 35,000 people dying is a given, maybe we can change behavior a little bit and make things safer next year.”

There have been warning signs. Deaths for pedestrians and bicyclists had been on the upswing of late, while the numbers for vehicle occupants ticked downward thanks to the introduction of new technologies like airbags, electronic stability control and, more recently, automated emergency braking systems. But now, the rising figures include almost all types of road users.


According to the latest data, the number of fatalities among SUV occupants jumped 10.1 percent from 2014. The number of fatalities in van occupants increased 9.3 percent. For passenger-car occupants, it was a 5.7-percent increase and for pickup-truck occupants, a 4.7-percent increase. Meanwhile, things got even worse for what are termed "vulnerable road users." Pedestrian fatalities jumped 9.5 percent to 5376 and bicyclist fatalities spiked more than 12 percent to 818; both cases represent levels not seen in two decades. Motorcyclist fatalities increased by 8.3 percent to 4976, the highest number in four years.

On Monday, the across-the-board spikes prompted an unprecedented “call to action” from the White House, and the Department of Transportation released its annual figures three months earlier than usual in hopes of drawing more attention to the sharp reversal in what had been long-term trends over decades toward safer roads.

“We are in a bad place,” Rosekind (shown below) said last month in San Francisco. “This is a bad situation, and we should be desperate for new tools that will help us save lives.”

High school football player dies two days after injury in game

(CNN)A high school near Cleveland is mourning the tragic death of a football player days after he was injured during a game Friday night.

Andre Jackson, 17, was hurt during a kickoff play in which he may have been kicked or kneed by another player while going after the ball, the football coach told CNN affiliate WEWS.

Jackson, a fullback and outside linebacker for Euclid High School in Euclid, walked off the field after the play, went to the hospital on Friday and was released, WEWS reported.

On Sunday, the high school junior went to a hospital, was treated, and died. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office said Tuesday that the cause of death was a blow to Jackson's abdomen, which led to a small bowel laceration and peritonitis. Peritonitis is inflammation of the membrane lining the inner abdominal wall.

High school football deaths raise safety concerns

"This community just lost such a special boy, and he's irreplaceable. There'll never be a smile like Andre Jackson's," Jeff Rotsky, Euclid High's head football coach, told WEWS.

"He would be the first kid at study hall. He'd go for extra help. He was what you want to see out of a young man who wanted more out of life," Rotsky said. "He deserved so much more."

Jackson, whose favorite subject in school was math, was described as a "hardworking student athlete" in a statement from the Euclid City School District. He "brought smiles to all those with whom he came in contact," the statement said.

Although football-related deaths are extremely rare, a few other high schools across the country have lost players at young ages this year.

High school football deaths, by the numbers

Including Jackson, there have been five high school football-related fatalities since July, according to the National Center for Catastrophic Sport Injury Research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Just two weeks ago, Chase Lightfoot, a football player at Shadow Creek High School in Pearland, Texas, died of a cardiovascular problem on September 10 after he collapsed during the second half of a game, according to CNN affiliate KTRK. He was 17 years old.

In August, Lewis Simpkins, a football player at River Bluff High School in Lexington, South Carolina, collapsed on the field during practice. He was taken to a hospital and died shortly after, according to CNN affiliate WYFF. He was 14 years old. Simpkins died as a result of a pre-existing heart condition and complications from an irregular heartbeat, WYFF reported, and the heat and humidity during football practice probably contributed to his death.

Deadly month in high school football

High school football deaths mar season
More than 1 million high school athletes play football. During last year's football season, seven deaths in the United States were directly related to the sport, and they all involved high school players (PDF), according to a report from the National Center for Catastrophic Sport Injury Research.
Among high school and college players, about 12 football-related fatalities occur each year, according to a 2013 analysis from the center. The most common causes of death are cardiac failure, brain injury and heat illness.

There are three times as many catastrophic football injuries among high school athletes as college athletes, according to the Southwest Athletic Trainers' Association.

The American Academy of Pediatrics released recommendations last year to improve the safety of young football players. The recommendations, which were published in the journal Pediatrics, were:

    "Officials and coaches must ensure proper enforcement of the rules of the game. A significant number of concussions and catastrophic injuries occur because of improper and illegal contact, such as spear tackling."
    "Removing tackling from football altogether would likely lead to a decrease in the incidence of overall injuries, severe injuries, catastrophic injuries and concussions."
    "The expansion of nontackling leagues for young athletes who enjoy the game of football and want to be physically active but do not want to be exposed to the collisions currently associated with the game should be considered by football leagues and organizations."
    "Efforts should be made by coaches and officials to reduce the number of impacts to the head that occur during participation in football. Further research is needed in this area."
    "Delaying the age at which tackling is introduced to the game would likely decrease the risk of these injuries for the age levels at which tackling would be prohibited."
    "Although definitive scientific evidence is lacking, strengthening of the cervical musculature (in the neck) will likely reduce the risk of concussions in football by limiting the acceleration of the head after impact."
    "Efforts should be made by football teams to have athletic trainers at the sidelines during organized football games and practices."

Many experts point to a shortage of full-time high school athletic trainers as a possible link to the higher risk of injury for young football players.

A 2015 study published in the Journal of Athletic Training found that, while 70% of schools provide trainers at games and practices, only about one-third have full-time athletic trainers.

"This number must increase further to provide appropriate medical coverage at athletic practices and games for secondary school athletes," the study concludes.

Football's impact on the brain starts early

(CNN) — Last year, according to USA Football, over two million children between the ages of 6-14 participated in tackle football. For many parents, the worry has been over concussions. But a new study finds there could be cause for concern over the cumulative impact of repetitive or sub-concussive hits on the brains of young players when out on the field.

The study, published in this month's edition of the journal Radiology, adds to the growing debate about whether or not children should be allowed to play contact sports.

Despite the study's small size, tracking only 25 youth football players between the ages of 8-13 over the course of just one season, it is the first research to look at this age group and find players still experienced structural changes to the white matter in their brain despite having no concussion diagnosis during the season.

Microscopic changes with big implications

"These are not the type of changes you see with the naked eye - so they may or not mean anything ," cautioned Joel Stitzel, Professor of biomedical engineering at Wake Forest School of Medicine and one of the authors of the study. Rather, Stitzel said that these findings indicate areas that need further study as well as pinpoint the right areas to be looking at for research.

Previous studies have shown similar findings in high school and college players, but seeing this in such an early age group made Dr. Robert Cantu, medical director of the Concussion Legacy Foundation, pause. "I don't want to be alarmist....but finding this in youth players is particularly concerning," said Cantu, who was not involved in the study.

Dr. Christopher Giza, director of UCLA's Steve Tisch BrainSPORT Program, cautioned that the findings should be taken with a grain of salt because of the small sample size. Giza also did not participate in the study.

What is white matter?

When most people think of the brain they typically envision gray matter - the dark folded tissue that makes up the brain. This is where most of the neurons, or nerve cells, in the brain reside. However, to help those neurons efficiently communicate with one another, the brain relies on the white matter underneath, connecting various neurons and parts of the brain to one another.

White matter is composed of millions of nerve fibers called axons and by using a sophisticated form of brain-scanning MRI technique, scientists are able to measure the movement of water molecules in the brain and along the axons. A healthy brain has fairly uniform water movement whereas more random water movement has been linked to brain abnormalities in previous studies. This movement has been associated with longer term concussive symptoms, such as headaches and dizziness, explained Stitzel.

In this study, the researchers found a significant association between increased head impacts and more random water movement in certain regions of white matter.

Stitzel pointed out that the changes in the studied players did not appear to be associated with any symptoms of concussion.

However, it's also not clear if the impact to the brain is permanent.

" Whether the brain is irreversibly injured, we don't know, because further studies need to be done. This is a pilot study and it cries out to be done in a longitudinal way to be followed over years. So these changes recover? Do these changes get worse?, " said Cantu.

Young players particularly vulnerable

What concerns Cantu so much is that the brain at this age range is particularly vulnerable, pointing out that the necks of players in this age group are not quite as strong as high school and college players. "Youngsters at this age aren't as fast and big, so the collisions aren't as spectacular, but their necks are very weak and that creates bobble head doll effect," said Cantu. Despite their lack of speed, Cantu said younger players can collide with just as much impact.

And while brain plasticity is on the side of youngsters, Cantu added "Young brains are in the process of making the connections between the ages of 9-12, in terms of giving your intellect, your mood, and also, behavior, whether you have a short fuse or not - so it's a particular concern to be injuring a brain at the time these final connections are being made."

Cantu advocates that children under the age of 14 should avoid tackle football, out of concern for their brain development.

Changing the game

In recent years, leagues such as Pop Warner and USA Football have already implemented rule and practice changes to limit contact exposure.

"We all should be looking towards minimizing impact risk in kids, including (but not limited to): having good protective equipment, using careful training protocols that minimize unnecessary impacts, penalizing illegal or inappropriate plays, avoiding poor playing techniques, providing meaningful concussion/brain health education and properly and promptly diagnosing and treating concussions," said Giza.

Stitzel agrees and hopes this, and future studies, can help better inform parents, coaches, and players. "I think our general view is this is the type of work that will inform better decision making...the sort of thing that is intending not to hurt, but ultimately save and make the sport safer. "

Inflammation in the brain linked to CTE

(CNN)Inflammation in the brain has been associated with neurodegernative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, and a new study links it for the first time to chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE.

The researchers compared the brains of 48 former football players diagnosed with CTE with the brains of 18 players who didn't have the disease and those of 16 non-players. They found that those who had increased hits to the head, even though they hadn't been diagnosed with CTE, had increased inflammation. That inflammation increased with a longer time playing football and with CTE severity.

What is CTE?
CTE is believed to be a result of repeated trauma to the head. Ninety of 94 former professional football players who donated their brains for research have been diagnosed with the Alzheimer's-like neurodegerative disease. Some of the best-known players diagnosed with CTE include Hall of Famer and San Diego Charger Junior Seau, who killed himself in May 2012 at the age of 43, and legendary sportscaster and Hall of Famer Frank Gifford, who died of natural causes in August 2015 at the age of 84.

Though it has similar symptoms to Alzheimer's -- including memory loss, mood swings and depression -- it has a distinct pathology, with an abnormal protein called tau taking over specific regions of the brain.

A confirmed diagnosis cannot be made without an autopsy. However, recent research has looked into the use of MRI imaging and potential biomarkers to help detect the disease in the living.

Dr. Thor Stein, one of the authors of the new study, said that although it wasn't surprising to see an increase in inflammation, it wasn't clear exactly whether the inflammation was specifically causing the disease or was a reaction to it, but more likely, it was both.

Inflammation and the brain
Heather Snyder, senior associate director of medical and scientific relations for the Alzheimer's Association, said researchers were still trying to understand the basic function of inflammation in the brain, let alone in disease. "It's still an early study. There are a lot of unanswered questions. We're just trying to understand the basic role in normal function."

Though Snyder was not involved in the study, the Alzheimer's Association did support Stein in this work.

The brain is a unique organ, said Stein, in that it has its own inflammatory cells that act as a monitoring system. "These inflammatory cells are constantly migrating through the brain. Then, if there's an infection, they react quickly. Same with trauma: Inflammatory cells quickly migrate to the area of trauma and probably perform some protective mechanism." But in some brains, these inflammatory cells don't shut down, and inflammation persists.

Eventually, Stein hopes studies like this can help develop tools to determine the degree of injury to the brain and when it's OK for players to return to the field. "The ultimate goal is to figure out which particularly inflammatory cells that are more problematic than others and then ultimately use drugs to prevent the disease." But he cautioned that the study was still very early.

Dr. Richard Isaacson, director of the Alzheimer's Prevention Clinic at Weill Cornell Medicine and New York-Presbyterian, agreed but believes that this type of work was a step in the right direction. "We're still a long way away for developing targeted treatments for different types of brain inflammation, and I think that's the next frontier."

Bo Jackson opens up about football's CTE risk

(CNN)Bo Jackson knows football, but he didn't know that much about the risk of head injuries that can come with playing the game, he said in a recent interview with USA Today.

The Heisman Trophy winner and NFL Pro Bowler, who also had a baseball career, would have never played football if he had known more about the health risks, he said in the interview, which published Thursday.

"If I knew back then what I know now,'' Jackson told USA Today Sports, "I would have never played football. Never. I wish I had known about all of those head injuries, but no one knew that. And the people that did know that, they wouldn't tell anybody.

"The game has gotten so violent, so rough. We're so much more educated on this CTE stuff (chronic traumatic encephalopathy), there's no way I would ever allow my kids to play football today."

Most scientists believe that CTE, a progressive degenerative brain disease, is associated with repeated blows to the head, such as those suffered while playing football.

The brain can shake inside the skull whenever the head gets hit, which can trigger the buildup of an abnormal protein in the brain called tau, leading to progressive degeneration of brain tissue.

In March, the NFL publicly acknowledged a connection between football and CTE.

"I think that the NFL has a responsibility -- one could say an obligation -- to really focus on player health and game safety. And by doing so, it would have a watershed effect on football, reaching into the NCAA and down into youth football. But I think the watershed effect extends to all sports and will affect men and women, so I think that's a good thing," Dr. Betsy Nabel, the NFL's chief health and medical adviser, told CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta in a 2015 interview.

"Any contact sport is going to have a risk of injury. We see that, for example, in women's soccer," she said. "I think what's critical is knowing how to play the game right, knowing how to play the game safely. If you understand the best way to tackle, if you've got good equipment in place and you know how to recognize injuries, then you're going to know how to play the game as safely as possible. "

Indeed, athletes from other sports, such as boxing, soccer, and rugby, also can suffer CTE. Last year, US soccer player Brandi Chastain announced that she plans to donate her brain to Boston University for CTE research.

Many athletes from other sports have made that same commitment including three-time Olympic gold-medal swimmer Nancy Hogshead-Makar and NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr.

CTE can cause Alzheimer's like symptoms. They can include cognitive impairment, impulsive behavior, depression, memory loss, difficulty planning or carrying out tasks, emotional instability, substance abuse, and suicidal thoughts, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Chris Henry played five seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals before dying at the age of 26. He died after falling from the bed of a moving pickup during a fight with his fiancée. His young age prompted concern over how quickly athletes start to suffer from CTE.

Global Leaders Rattle Their Sabers As The World Marches Toward War

Iran just conducted another provocative missile test, more U.S. troops are being sent to the Middle East, it was just announced that the U.S. military will be sending B-1 and B-52 bombers to South Korea in response to North Korea firing four missiles into the seas near Japan, and China is absolutely livid that a U.S. carrier group just sailed through contested waters in the South China Sea.  We have entered a season where leaders all over the globe feel a need to rattle their sabers, and many fear that this could be leading us to war.  In particular, Donald Trump is going to be under the microscope in the days ahead as other world leaders test his resolve.  Will Trump be able to show that he is tough without going over the edge and starting an actual conflict?

The Iranians made global headlines on Thursday when they conducted yet another ballistic missile test despite being warned by Trump on numerous occasions…

As tensions between the U.S. and Iran continue to mount, the semi-official news agency Tasnim is reporting that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has successfully conducted yet another ballistic missile test, this time from a navy vessel.  Called the Hormuz 2, these latest missiles are designed to destroy moving targets at sea at ranges up to 300 km (180 miles).

Reports on the latest test quotes Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the IRGC’s Aerospace Force, who confirmed that “the naval ballistic missile called Hormuz 2 successfully destroyed a target which was 250 km away.”

The missile test is the latest event in a long-running rivalry between Iran and the United States in and around the Strait of Hormuz, which guards the entrance to the Gulf. About 20% of the world’s oil passes through the waterway, which is less than 40 km wide at its narrowest point.

So how will Trump respond to this provocation?

Will he escalate the situation?  If he does nothing he will look weak, but if he goes too far he could risk open conflict.

Elsewhere in the Middle East, things are already escalating.  It is being reported that “several hundred Marines” are on the ground in Syria to support an assault on the city of Raqqa, and another 1,000 troops could be sent to Kuwait to join the fight against ISIS any day now.  The following comes from Zero Hedge…

While the Trump administration waits to decide if it will send 1,000 troops to Kuwait to fight ISIS, overnight the Washington Post reported that the US has sent several hundred Marines to Syria to support an allied local force aiming to capture the Islamic State stronghold of Raqqa. Defence officials said they would establish an outpost from which they could fire artillery at IS positions some 32km (20 miles) away. US special forces are already on the ground, “advising” the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) alliance according to the BBC.

The defence officials told the Washington Post that the Marines were from the San Diego-based 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, and that they had flown to northern Syria via Djibouti and Kuwait. They are to set up an artillery battery that could fire powerful 155mm shells from M777 howitzers, the officials said. Another marine expeditionary unit carried out a similar mission at the start of the Iraqi government’s operation to recapture the city of Mosul from IS last year.

Meanwhile, China is spitting mad for several reasons.  For one, the Chinese are absolutely furious that South Korea has allowed the U.S. to deploy the THAAD missile defense system on their soil…

China is lashing out at South Korea and Washington for the deployment of a powerful missile defense system known as the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system, or THAAD, deposited at the Osan Air Base in South Korea on Monday evening.

The deployment of THAAD follows several ballistic missile tests by North Korea in recent months, including the launch of four missiles on Monday, three of which landed in the sea off the coast of Japan. Though THAAD would help South Korea protect itself from a North Korean missile attack, China is vocally protesting the deployment of the system, claiming it upsets the “strategic equilibrium” in the region because its radar will allow the United States to detect and track missiles launched from China.

Of course the U.S. needed to do something, because the North Koreans keep rattling their sabers by firing off more ballistic missiles toward Japan.

But it is one thing to deploy a missile defense system, and it is another thing entirely to fly strategic nuclear bombers into the region.

So if the Chinese were upset when THAAD was deployed, how will they feel when B-1 and B-52 bombers start showing up in South Korea?…

Earlier this week, trigger-happy Kim pushed his luck once more when he fired off four ballistic missiles into the seas near Japan.

Now US military chiefs are reportedly planning to fly in B-1 and B-52 bombers – built to carry nuclear bombs – to show America has had enough.

South Korea and the US have also started their annual Foal Eagle military exercise sending a strong warning to North Korea over its actions.

A military official said 300,000 South Korean troops and 15,000 US personnel are taking part in the operation.

The Trump administration has openly stated that all options “are on the table” when it comes to North Korea, and that includes a military strike.

It has been more than 60 years since the Korean War ended, but many are concerned that we may be closer to a new Korean War than we have been at any point since that time.

And of course our relationship with China is tumbling precariously downhill as well.  Another reason why the Chinese are extremely upset with the Trump administration is because a U.S. Navy carrier battle group led by the USS Carl Vinson sailed past islands that China claims in the South China Sea just a few weeks ago.

In China, the media openly talks about the possibility of war with the United States over the South China Sea.  Most Americans are not even aware that the South China Sea is a very serious international issue, but over in China this is a major focus.

And the U.S. military has recently made several other moves in the region that have angered the Chinese…

Also in February, the U.S. sent a dozen F-22 Raptor stealth fighters to Tindal AB in northern Australia, the closest Australian military airbase to China, for coalition training and exercises. It’s the first deployment of that many F-22s in the Pacific.

And if that didn’t get the attention of the Chinese government, the U.S. just tested four Trident II submarine-launched ballistic missiles during a nuclear war exercise, sending the simulated weapons 4,200 miles from the coast of California into the mid-Pacific. It’s the first time in three years the U.S. has conducted tests in the Pacific, and the first four-missile salvo since the end of the Cold War.

I can understand the need to look tough, but eventually somebody is going to go too far.

If you are familiar with my work, then you know that I believe that war is coming.  Things in the Middle East continue to escalate, and it is only a matter of time before a great war erupts between Israel and her neighbors.  Meanwhile, U.S. relations with both Russia and China continue to deteriorate, and this is something that I have been warning about for a very long time.

We should hope for peace, but we should also not be blind to the signs of war that are starting to emerge all over the planet.  Relatively few people anticipated the outbreak of World War I and World War II in advance, and I have a feeling that the same thing will be true for World War III.
