Boy Scouts reaffirm ban on 'gay' members, leaders

After a confidential two-year review, the Boy Scouts of America on Tuesday emphatically reaffirmed its policy of excluding gays, ruling out any changes despite relentless protest campaigns by some critics.

An 11-member special committee, formed discreetly by top Scout leaders in 2010, “came to the conclusion that this policy is absolutely the best policy for the Boy Scouts,” the organization’s national spokesman, Deron Smith, told the Associated Press.

Mr. Smith said the committee, composed of professional Scout executives and adult volunteers, was unanimous in its conclusion — preserving a long-standing policy that was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2000 and has remained controversial ever since.

Good for them. Surprising a group isn't caving to the gay lobby. We'll see how long it lasts.

The Girl Scouts have caved into lesbianism, believe it or not.

We will see - you know how these "activists" are...they will keep fighting, fighting, and fighting just to get a little toe in the door. And once they do, that's when they aren't satisfied enough and take control.

Look at the Southern Baptist Convention - recently they've let homosexuals in, just as long as they don't marry.

Scouts Return Medals Over Organization’s Anti-Gay Stance

The Boy Scouts of America's stance of not allowing openly gay people to serve as troop leaders or members has inspired several Eagle Scouts to return their hard-earned medals and renounce their membership. Boing Boing writer Maggie Koerth-Baker first posted a story about how her husband, Christopher Baker, a former Eagle Scout, returned his medal to the Boy Scouts of America. The post, which included Baker's letter to the BSA, drew a strong reaction from the Boing Boing community. So much so, that other former Eagle Scouts began returning their medals as well.

Romney backs 'gays' in Boy Scouts

There is one social issue on which Mitt Romney is more liberal than President Obama — that of urging the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to accept gay scouts.

Mr. Romney said in 1994 that while it was up to BSA to set its own policy, he thought the scouts should allow gay boys in, and this week his campaign reaffirmed that stance to the Associated Press. The 1994 comments came as he was running to unseat then-Sen. Edward M. Kennedy in Massachusetts.

“I support the right of the Boy Scouts of America to decide what it wants to do on that issue. I feel that all people should be able to participate in the Boy Scouts regardless of their sexual orientation,” Mr. Romney said during a debate at the time.

Vermont Scouts say LGBTs are welcome
At least one state chapter of the Boy Scouts of America is not prepared to toe the line with the organization’s national ban on LGBTs joining the scouts

The Vermont Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America has reaffirmed its non-discriminatory stance allowing LGBTs to be scouts and scout masters in the face of the national organization’s continued refusal to allow LGBTs into the organization.

The Vermont chapter’s Green Mountain Council established its own non-discriminatory policy in 2001 after the Boy Scouts of America won a Supreme Court case affirming their right to exclude LGBTs the year before.

The Green Mountain Council’s policy reads, ‘The Green Mountain Council, Boy Scouts of America, does not inquire into the sexual orientation of existing or prospective members, youth or adult.’

Green Mountain Council scout executive Edward McCollin said that the Supreme Court verdict had prompted them to act.

‘When that happened, the Green Mountain Council as an executive board created their own non-discrimination policy that was in line with what the people of Vermont were comfortable with, without going against the national Boy Scouts of America policy,’ McCollin told the Barre Montpelier Times Argus.

2000 had also seen Vermont become the first state to introduce civil unions for same-sex couples.

The Boy Scouts of America announced it would continue its ban on LGBTs joining in July after setting up an exploratory committee to evaluate its policy in 2010.

However the ban has caused the Boy Scouts controversy in 2012 with a number of expulsions making the news, and even the US President, Barack Obama entering the debate to criticize the Scout’s policy.

UPS denying Scout snub

Though the UPS Foundation has eliminated donations to the Boy Scouts of America because it doesn't allow homosexuals to be Scout leaders or members, a pro-family leader says UPS has denied the rejection.

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH) explains that under pressure from homosexual activists, the United Parcel Service is telling all prospective grantees they will have to check a box to declare that they do not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation. OneNewsNow earlier reported that the philanthropic arm of the shipping giant has announced it will no longer donate to organizations that do not adhere to its "diversity policies."

"Well of course the Boy Scouts can't check that box, and so this will end UPS's giving to the Boy Scouts," the AFTAH president reasons. "But when people call up UPS, the people at UPS are saying, Oh no -- we're not dropping the Scouts; we're just implementing our giving policy, which includes non-discrimination."

So LaBarbera contends that UPS is inventing a pretext so the Boy Scouts and other pro-family groups could not be allowed -- although some local liberal Scout groups might check the box. At the same time, UPS does donate to the Human Rights Campaign and other liberal groups that are pro-homosexual.

"The Scouts are right: the issue of homosexuality is a huge distraction," LaBarbera contends. "It doesn't belong in a youth organization, and shame on these major corporations for bullying the Scouts into dropping their common-sense policy on homosexuality."

The Human Rights Campaign is the largest homosexual lobby group in the nation -- and, according to LaBarbera, "also the architect of the homosexual shakedown of corporations," forcing them to liberalize policies in favor of homosexuals, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people.

Boy Scouts Likely to Approve Gay Leaders in Major Policy Reversal

The Boy Scouts of America announced today, under pressure from questions raised by The Christian Post, that the organization is likely to allow professed homosexuals to become scout leaders and that a vote on the matter is scheduled at the group's executive meeting in Irving, Texas, the first week of February.
When asked about the change by The Christian Post, BSA officials confirmed the major policy reversal just days before Scout Sunday, February 3, an annual event held in many churches around the country to promote and encourage participation in scouting. The organization originally planned to make the announcement at the Boy Scouts of America Annual Meeting in May.

A source who has knowledge of the situation told The Christian Post last week that the BSA's top executives had met with top leaders at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Catholic Church and the Southern Baptist Convention, among others, over the last few weeks to inform them of the possibility of this policy shift.

Early Monday morning, the BSA responded to CP's inquiry and released the following statement via email:

"For more than 100 years, Scouting's focus has been on working together to deliver the nation's foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training. Scouting has always been in an ongoing dialogue with the Scouting family to determine what is in the best interest of the organization and the young people we serve," wrote Deron Smith, BSA's Director of Public Relations.

"Currently, the BSA is discussing potentially removing the national membership restriction regarding sexual orientation. This would mean there would no longer be any national policy regarding sexual orientation, and the chartered organizations that oversee and deliver Scouting would accept membership and select leaders consistent with each organization's mission, principles, or religious beliefs. BSA members and parents would be able to choose a local unit that best meets the needs of their families.

"The policy change under discussion would allow the religious, civic, or educational organizations that oversee and deliver Scouting to determine how to address this issue. The Boy Scouts would not, under any circumstances, dictate a position to units, members, or parents. Under this proposed policy, the BSA would not require any chartered organization to act in ways inconsistent with that organization's mission, principles, or religious beliefs."

On their website the BSA call themselves "one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations." The group has been under pressure in recent years to allow homosexuals in leadership roles after winning a court decision almost thirteen years ago.

The decision would be a dramatic change in Scout policy. In 2000, the U.S. Supreme Court, in Boy Scouts of America v Dale, ruled that the group had the constitutional right to "freedom of association" – allowing it and other groups to exclude persons from membership when the "the presence of that person affects in a significant way the group's ability to advocate public or private viewpoints." The essence of the ruling was that the organization's opposition to homosexuality is part of the BSA's "expressive message" and allowing homosexuals as adult leaders would run in opposition to that message.

When asked what prompted the BSA to consider such a change, especially given that the Supreme Court has ruled in their favor, Smith said the change was considered as "a result of dialogue within the Scouting family."

"Scouting's policy caused some volunteers and chartered organizations which oversee and deliver the program, to act in conflict with their missions, principles or religious beliefs," said Smith.

If approved, the impact of the new policy could have far-reaching ramifications, say religious leaders.

"It boggles my mind to think the BSA would make such a move," said an executive in the Southern Baptist Convention who asked not to be identified. "If they have counted the cost of this decision in terms of relationships and numbers, then I believe they have miscalculated that cost."

The Mormon Church, Catholic Diocese and Southern Baptist Convention are three of the largest religious organizations that are closely affiliated with the BSA. Troops, as local units are called, often meet in and use church facilities for their weekly gatherings. Many troops are formed solely from within churches given that the BSA's objectives and development programs often run parallel to the doctrine of many major religious groups. However, church membership or religious beliefs are not a requirement for membership in the BSA.

According to the BSA's website, of the approximate 100,000 scouting units in the U.S., 69.6 percent are chartered to faith-based organizations, 22.7 percent are chartered to civic organizations such as Rotary, Kiwanis and chambers of commerce, and 7.9 percent are chartered to educational organizations such as PTAs and private schools.

Boy Scouts are often first introduced to scouting by joining Cub Scout packs as young as seven years of age before transitioning to the Webelos program and then Boy Scouts. Scouts can earn over 100 "merit" badges for their participation and study in activities such as First Aid, Swimming, Citizenship, Camping and Personal Fitness to name a few.

The most coveted rank in scouting is that of an "Eagle" scout and is only awarded to approximately five percent of the participants who earn at least 21 merit badges. From 1912 to 2011, more that 2 million Boy Scouts earned the Eagle Scout rank including President Gerald Ford, who was the fist Eagle Scout to become vice president and then president.

Over 73 Member of Congress have either earned the rank of Eagle Scout or been a volunteer scout leader.

The BSA's National Executive Board will meet from Feb. 4-6 at the DFW Airport Marriott in Irving, Texas, and the issue is anticipated to be a topic of discussion, although the meetings are private and not open to the public or media.

Mormons, Gays and the Boy Scouts of America

LDS Doctrines on Morality take another tumble

The 14 million-member LDS Church has 420,977 youths in 37,882 scouting units.

The faith allows chaste gays to hold callings or positions in its organizations, when chosen by local Mormon leaders, and its written guidelines do not exclude Scouting. [Peggy Fletcher Stack, SL Tribune, 1/28/13]

As the BSA sits on the edge of a major policy shift to allow gays to take leadership positions in the BSA, the LDS church has already been doing so for some time. Sort of like having the wolves shepherd the sheep. It is a remarkable change and a bit of a shock.  I remember back in the early 1980s when an off-campus, student newspaper called the 7Th East Press did an expose on Homosexuality and BYU. It revealed that as many as one-third of returning LDS missionaries at BYU were engaged in the Homosexual lifestyle.  Their exceptional research and publishing the results did not sit well with the "brethren." As I remember, the key students in the report were soon attending other schools.

Back in the 1970s, BYU Camus police followed gay students to gay bars and other such hangouts in Salt Lake City and then, back on campus, brought them in for reprogramming that included electroshock therapy.   One of the usual solutions was to marry these youngsters off to  a willing coed as soon as possible, convinced this would be the real cure. All it did was totally mess up people's lives even further.

Now gay and lesbian lifestyles are OK on campus and in church leadership positions. This is the same church that took a major stand in supporting Proposition 8 in California. They are going to reap a whirlwind in this major shift in its acceptance of such a non-biblical lifestyle.  This new LDS Church, trying to be the fuzziest, warmest kind of welcoming church, s selling out its own standards of morality.

Just a few months ago, The Boys Scouts of America and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have agreed to settle a lawsuit filed by a Portland man who said they didn't do enough to stop a Scout troop leader from sexually abusing children.

A document filed Nov. 15 in U.S. District Court in Boise said both sides agreed to an undisclosed monetary settlement. The lawsuit alleges the leader of a Boy Scout troop in Nampa in southwestern Idaho sexually abused the plaintiff over three years in both Idaho and Oregon starting in 1967, and that the abuse left him with debilitating physical, emotional and mental injuries.

Bill targeting Boy Scouts' tax exempt status draws criticism

A proposed law in California to remove a state tax exemption for youth groups like the Boy Scouts that don’t allow gay members would set a dangerous precedent, according to an association of nonprofits.

The legislation, introduced by Democratic State Sen. Ricardo Lara on Tuesday, would deny exemptions from state corporate taxes and taxes on items such groups sell. It would also require them to pay corporate taxes on donations and other forms of income.

Lara and LGBT advocacy group, Equality California, said the bill was aimed at groups like the Boy Scouts of America, which has faced increasing protests over its longstanding policy banning gay Scouts and leaders. An expert said she believed it was the first time such a law had been proposed, though it follows the loss of corporate sponsorship dollars to the BSA due to the policy.

The California Association of Nonprofits, which has 1,500 member organizations, said it opposed the legislation in its current form, even though the group opposes discrimination based upon sexual orientation or gender identity as outlined in the bill, SB 323.

“ … we are against using the tax exemption as a way to compel change in a nonprofit's policies,” Kris Lev-Twombly, the group’s director of public policy, wrote late Wednesday in an email. “Stripping nonprofits of tax exemption on ideological grounds is a slippery slope. Nonprofits are the embodiments of free speech in our society. When we disagree with a nonprofit's policies, we should vote by moving our donation dollars and our volunteer feet elsewhere.”

Uhm...no it doesn't...once you signed up for your 501c3 tax-exempt status, you pretty much gave up your 1st ammendment rights to the government in exchange for pottage. Does Esau ring a bell?

Heb 12:16  Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.
Heb 12:17  For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

The association said it is difficult to estimate how many of California's 50,000 nonprofits could be impacted because there is no reliable data on how many discriminate based upon sexual orientation. [/size]

“To lose state tax exemption in California could be significant for a nonprofit organization,” he said. “The bill is narrow in the sense that the provision applies specifically to youth organizations, but the question is how many organizations in California might be found to discriminate as outlined in the bill.”

The law would require two-thirds approval of both houses of the state legislature to win approval. Lara said the state already bans discrimination based on sexual orientation in public accommodations and government programs.

“Our state values the important role that youth groups play in the empowerment of our next generation; this is demonstrated by rewarding organizations with tax exemptions supported financially by all Californians,” he said in a statement. “SB 323 seeks to end the unfortunate discriminatory and outdated practices by certain youth groups by revoking their tax exemption privilege should they not comply with our non-discrimination laws.”

The Boy Scouts of America declined to comment on the legislation, which comes about two weeks after it postponed a decision on whether to end the policy at the national level and leave local sponsoring organizations free to decide for themselves whether to admit gay Scouts.

The BSA said it had received an outpouring of feedback on the membership guidelines after the potential change was announced in late January, and that it would take action on the issue at its national meeting in May.

More than two-thirds of Scouting groups are affiliated with religious bodies. Among the top religious sponsors, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have called for more time to discuss the issue, while the Southern Baptists on Tuesday passed a resolution rejecting the proposed change, according to the Baptist Press.

Pat Read, an independent consultant for nonprofits and foundations nationwide, said she believed such legislation was a first. However, she said there was a precedent, noting a 1983 Supreme Court case in which the IRS said it would no longer provide tax exempt status to private schools that practiced racial discrimination – a fight the federal tax agency won.

Read said the bill would have a financial impact and could potentially deter people from making donations.

“When the federal government or a state government stands up and says that this nonprofit is not a good nonprofit because of some policy it has adopted, it affects the ability of people to support that group, it affects how much money it has available to support its programs versus paying taxes, and it affects public opinion about the value of its work,” she said by phone from Boulder, Colo. “And all three things are important and all three things are at stake in this legislation.”

She said this legislation could wind up in court if it is approved, noting private organizations would likely object and say, "you have no right to try to tell us what to do.”

“Some of them will be saying, you know, 'well tough we don’t need the tax exemption,'” she added. “But there will be a price to be paid for that.”

Bill Gates, Former Boy Scout: Lift the Gay Ban
3/14/13

Billionaire Bill Gates thinks it’s time for the Boy Scouts of America to end its ban on gay leaders and members.

The philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder gave his opinion Wednesday night during the inaugural installment of Politico’s new interview series, Playbook Cocktails, at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C.

When the ex-Boy Scout was asked if he believed the organization should move forward with lifting the ban on gay members, he said it “absolutely” should.

Politico’s D.C. bureau chief, Mike Allen, quickly asked why.

“Because it’s 2013,”
Gates said, prompting the crowd to erupt in a round of thunderous applause.

During the course of the interview, Gates also told Allen that current immigration policy is the biggest impediment to U.S. job growth, and that he’s worried about gridlock in Washington and the so-called sequestration.

“You don’t run a business like this,” Gates said of the federal government. “This is a non-optimal path … a business that is maximizing its output would proceed along a different path.”

Calif. tax bill seeks to punish Scouts for gay ban
4/9/13

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — California lawmakers are considering taking some tax exemptions away from youth groups that do not accept gay, transgender or atheist members — a move intended to pressure the Boy Scouts of America to lift its ban on gay Scouts and troop leaders.

Some cities have withdrawn free rent and other subsidies from the Boy Scouts over the years, but legislation introduced by state Sen. Ricardo Lara would make California the first state to target the Scouts for its anti-gay policy.

The Long Beach Democrat's bill, SB 323, is scheduled for its first committee hearing on Wednesday.

"Our state values the important role that youth groups play in the empowerment of our next generation; this is demonstrated by rewarding organizations with tax exemptions supported financially by all Californians," Lara said. "SB 323 seeks to end the unfortunate discriminatory and outdated practices by certain youth groups."

I'll bet they do! They know full well how to brainwash kids through "groups", and it's really angering the gay lobby the Boy Scouts won't play ball.

But the real rub about that clown's comments is that they make it sound like tax exemptions are used to reward companies after the fact, when in reality, the tax breaks come to a company up front, not AFTER they do something worthy of an exemption! Tax breaks aren't some kind of treat the state just tosses out to gay-friendly companies. That's just absurd.

And of course they fail to point out that tax breaks go to gay-friendly groups too, in spite of all those Californians who are forced to give breaks to gay-friendly companies they don't even support.

All people are suppose to support gays (in their opinion), yet gays refuse to support anybody that opposes them. I'm trying to figure out what part of that is fair!

If you disagree with the gay lobby, tough is their attitude, support us anyway. Yet when they are told they are to support somebody THEY disagree with, they get all bent and start whining that isn't fair.

Insanity! ::)

Scout leader sentenced to 8 years for assaulting boys

A former local Scout leader was sentenced to eight years in prison this afternoon for sexually assaulting three scouts. Provincial court Judge Ray Wyant said Stuart Garret Young’s actions were "reprehensible, degrading and disgusting and abhorrent." Court was told that Young, 40, was trusted and admired by the boys, and that he singled them out, grooming them to become his victims. Young had been a volunteer with a Southdale Scout troop. The boys were subjected to a program Young had developed that they were told was to build up their self-confidence but instead the boys were "brainwashed" while Young subjected them to various sexual acts.

Young was convicted of sexual assault, sexual exploitation, voyeurism, and making and possessing child pornography. Two of the boys were victimized when they were between the ages of 14 and 16 years. A third boy was subjected to Young’s bizarre program, which included stripping naked and texting him for permission to masturbate, between the ages of 14 and 16 and then subjected to sexual assaults when he turned 18. Young was first arrested in August 2011, when one of the boys contacted another parent volunteer who contacted police. Young was released the same day and hours later attempted to kill himself by slashing his throat, wrists and thigh. He was taken to hospital in critical condition but released several days later.

U.S. Boy Scouts set to end ban on gay members : spokesperson

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Boy Scouts of America called to end a long-standing ban on openly gay members, a spokesman said on Friday, but the organization's board must still vote in May on whether to ratify the resolution.

If the vote is approved, "no youth may be denied membership in the Boy Scouts of America on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone," Deron Smith, the organization's spokesman, told Reuters.

Smith noted that the decision drew from three months of research, surveys and discussions and was "among the most complex and challenging issues facing the BSA and society today."

The deliberations over whether to admit openly gay and lesbian members to the Boy Scouts has divided organizers, polarized its corporate and religious sponsors, and placed the group at the center of a nationwide debate over gay rights over the past two years.

"This is a historic change for the Boy Scouts," said Patrick Boyle, whose 1994 book "Scout's Honor" examined sexual abuse in the Boy Scouts of America.

"You have a more than hundred-year-old organization changing what it considered a fundamental belief just a decade ago. That says a lot about the Scouts and a lot about how far the gay rights movement has come in the United States."

(Reuters) - The Boy Scouts of America on Friday moved to partially lift its long-standing ban on gays, with a decision that would allow openly gay youth members but continue to bar gay adults in one of the largest youth serving organizations in America.

If the resolution is approved in a nationwide vote in May, "no youth may be denied membership in the Boy Scouts of America on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone," Deron Smith, the organization's spokesman, told Reuters.

The report found religious groups linked to the Scouts were concerned with homosexual adult leaders not with youth and concluded "a change in the membership policy specific to youth only would be consistent with the religious beliefs of the BSA's major chartered organizations."

Mormon Church Pleased with Boy Scouts Proposal
Thursday, 25 Apr 2013 08:25 PM

The Mormon church has given its blessing to the Boy Scouts of America on its latest proposal to lift the gay ban for youth members but continue to exclude gays as adult leaders.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints posted a statement on its website Thursday saying it is satisfied with the proposal, which the Boy Scouts announced last week and will submit to its National Council at a meeting in Texas the week of May 20.

The Salt Lake City-based church said it is satisfied that the Boy Scouts of America has made a "thoughtful, good-faith effort to address issues that, as they have said, remain 'among the most complex and challenging issues facing the BSA and society today.'"

It added the proposal recognizes that "Scouting exists to serve and benefit youth rather than Scout leaders, a single standard of moral purity for youth in the program, and a renewed emphasis for Scouts to honor their duty to God."

The reaction from the LDS church comes six days after the Boy Scouts of America made its major announcement. The Mormon church has more Scouting troops than any other religious denomination in the country so there was widespread interest in what it would say about the proposal.

Something Rotten in the Boy Scouts

There’s deception going on in the front office of the Boy Scouts. It includes deliberate misrepresentation of polling data, and threats to pack an upcoming meeting with anonymous and unqualified voters so that the Boy Scout policy on homosexuality gets forced on the majority of Scouts and parents who don’t want it.

The Boy Scouts are considering changing their policy of not allowing open homosexuality in either their Scout or leadership ranks. The policy has placed the Boy Scouts in the buzz saw of the zeitgeist and up until recently they have resisted. There are some weak-kneed leaders who want to throw over the policy and appear willing to violate the Scout Law to do it.

The Scout front office released the result of a national survey and “listening” process that purported to show that the Scouts—boys, parents, leaders and donors—favor a change in the policy. The Boy Scouts say the process reveals great changes in attitudes and that a majority of those at all levels of Scouting “tend to agree that youth should not be denied the benefits of Scouting.”

This was dutifully and even triumphantly reported in the mainstream press.  The only problem is the news reports were wrong. And the news reports were wrong because the Boy Scouts misrepresented the results. One close observer of the Boy Scouts calls the poll “a pack of lies.”

Do Scouting parents want to overhaul the policy and allow open homosexuality in the Scouts? The Executive Summary of the Poll says, “yes”, but the numbers say “no.” Fifty percent of Cub Scout parents support the current restrictive policy while 45% oppose it. A whopping 61% of Boy Scout parents support the current policy.

How did Boy Scout leadership get anywhere near the assertion that a majority of those in Scouting support homosexuality in Scouting? Part of what they did was what is known as a push-poll, a questionnaire designed not to elicit an accurate opinion but one designed to change opinions.

Here’s the most sympathetic scenario presented to the respondents: “Tom started in the program as a Tiger Cub and finished every requirement for the Eagle Scout award at 16 years of age. At his board of review Tom reveals he is gay. Is it acceptable or unacceptable for the review board to deny his Eagle Scout award based on that admission?”

Read this way, you may conclude that it is not right or just to deny Tom his award. Even so, the numbers show that a majority of parents still continue to support the current policy.

What is going on here? Deception, that’s what. There is a small group on the Executive Committee of the Boy Scouts who want this policy to change. What they face is a membership that largely opposes the measure. So, they try to get their way by lying about a poll. But there is more deception than that.

The Executive Board took up the issue a few months ago and after a tsunami of protest punted the issue to a vote of their National Council set to take place on May 20th. There are usually 1400 voting members of this body who qualify through strict criteria. Insiders have been told there may be an additional 2,000 voting members at the upcoming meeting. Who are they? The Boy Scouts leaders aren’t telling. Are they trying to pack the meeting? It sure looks that way.

A group of Scouting parents have grown alarmed over these deceptive practices and have hired not one but two lawyers to represent their interests and not just their interests but the interest of fairness and making sure the Boy Scout Executive Committee sticks to their own by-laws that are very clear about who can vote. There are legal issues here and this whole process could end up on court.

On the eve of the vote the Executive Committee will make a presentation on this issue to the National Council. The Executive Committee is the group driving this change and is the group presenting these deceptive numbers. You can be sure in that meeting there will be no presentation from supporters of the current policy, and you can be sure the Executive committee will continue to spin their deceptive tale about how most of Scouting is fine with open homosexuality in the program.

All this goes to show once more the lengths of deception that some will go to advance an agenda that is offensive to most Americans. They cannot win an up or down vote so they lie about a poll. They cannot convince regular people so they have to pack the meeting.

The number one item in the Boy Scout law is to be trustworthy. The process ought to be stopped and there ought to be a housecleaning and all these untrustworthy guys should get the boot.

Los Angeles Boy Scout group calls for welcoming gay adults

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The western Los Angeles County branch of the Boy Scouts of America has become the latest chapter to break with the national organization over its proposed lifting of a ban against gay scouts while continuing to exclude homosexual adults as troop leaders.

The council, which represents more than 14,000 scouts and ranks as the nation's 14th-largest scouting chapter, called for the Texas-based youth organization to go further by welcoming gays into the ranks of its adult volunteers as well.

In issuing its declaration on Tuesday urging a "true and authentic inclusion policy," the Los Angeles group joined at least two branches in New York state that have pushed for allowing gays to work as troop leaders or staff members.

The Boy Scouts of America holds its annual national meeting on May 23 in Texas, where a resolution will be voted on that would end the century-old group's policy denying membership to youths on the basis of sexual orientation.

The compromise proposal unveiled last month, which stopped short of allowing gay adults to work within the organization, drew criticism from both gay rights groups that want the scouts to go further and conservative religious organizations that sponsor troops and want no change to existing policy.

Alan Snyder, chairman of the board for the Western Los Angeles County Council of the Boy Scouts, said the members of his chapter's board have for more than a year discussed what should be its stance on the role of gays.

"We're hoping that by being visible on the issue, we can encourage others to have the temerity to join us," Snyder said.

The council is backing a resolution stating that no youth or adult shall be denied membership "as a leader, volunteer or staff member solely based on their sexual orientation or preference."

Patrick Boyle, author of the book "Scouts' Honor," about sexual abuse in the organization, said groups within the scouts, such as the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations, have long called for being more accepting toward gays.

"Normally it's just one voice in the woods, but now they're joining a much larger chorus so it might have a little larger impact now," he said.

The conservative Family Research Council earlier this year ran an advertisement in the newspaper USA Today urging the scouts not to change their policy on gays.

"As a father, I wouldn't want my sons to go on a camping trip with a teenage girl and stay in the same tent. Similarly, I think it's unwise to put boys or young men in a tent with boys or young men who are homosexual," said Rob Schwarzwalder, senior vice president for the Family Research Council.

Boy Scouts, Supreme Court Decision on Homosexuality Could Be Connected
http://www.christianpost.com/news/boy-scouts-supreme-court-decision-on-homosexuality-could-be-connected-95807/
5/13/13

Later this month, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) will decide the most controversial issue in its 103 year history-namely, whether or not every chartered Boy Scout unit will be required to foster open homosexuality in their units by accepting "openly homosexual" boys.

Then about 30 days after the BSA decision, the nation will receive two key critical decisions from the US Supreme Court on same sex marriage that will have dramatic consequences on the entire country.

If you think it is just a coincidence that these two matters are being decided so closely to each other, one right after the other, on similar topics -- think again. It is strategic and calculated timing on the part of gay-rights operatives at the highest levels.

Here is some brief history. In 2010, the BSA commissioned a comprehensive two-year study on its membership standards and specifically on the policy to not inquire about the sexual orientation or same sex attractions but to prohibit "open and avowed homosexuality". After the eleven-member committee of professional Scout executives and adult volunteers completed the study they "unanimously concluded" the policy should be maintained. In fact, accordingly to AP news stories, BSA spokesmen said this was "the absolute best policy for the organization."

So what would possess the BSA to risk embarrassing themselves on a national stage by opening back up such a controversial and divisive issue when months earlier they proclaimed they had the "absolute best policy?"

For me, the answer to that question was found in a little chicken wing and pizza restaurant right across from my office in Orlando, Florida last year in the summer of 2012. I was at this dive of a restaurant I frequent and happened to see Tico Perez, the National Commissioner of the BSA. Now I grew up in the same Scouting Council with Tico and we have also known each other for many years as fellow lawyers in the same city. I asked him how the BSA membership controversy was going and he assured me that the "Key Three" leaders in the organization had the issue "locked down" and the policy would not change. This was right after the BSA affirmed their policy and the two-year study. But he also described to me in detail the ugly onslaught of the types of sharp criticism BSA leadership had been receiving, which he described as "brutal and ongoing."

Then in January 2013, I saw a breaking news story that the BSA had opened "the conversation" back up again and was now reconsidering the same policy which they just re-affirmed only months ago!

Why did the BSA do this? Well, very simply because the intensity of the criticism was too much for them to handle. Human Rights Campaign, GLAAD and other gay-rights activist groups were steady and relentless in their systematic lobbying of BSA leaders, not to mention the mainstream media and Hollywood piling on right behind them.

But why the top down full court press on the Boy Scouts by gay-rights leaders around the country?

Well, unbeknownst to the BSA officials who were being pounded by activists from all sides, the two same-sex marriage cases were also slowly and silently making their way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

If you are a Supreme Court "watcher" most agree that any close decisions are usually about Justice Anthony Kennedy. He is the most obvious and most often-discussed swing vote on the high court. And if you read his previous opinions on social issues, Kennedy does not seem as concerned with legal issues as with public opinion. Kennedy's opinions are not filled with extensive analyses of the nuisances of equal protection, state's rights or statutory construction. He seems more concerned with culture, polling numbers and signs of the times.

If the BSA changes its membership policy and allows open homosexuality among its boys, you can be guaranteed that this event will be cited to by Justice Kennedy in his decision on the same sex marriage cases.

So as the Supreme Court is taking up the next big "gay rights" issue this year, it's no large leap to consider the timing of this latest BSA gay rights push as aimed at influencing those few Justices who are susceptible to the court of public opinion, especially when it comes to cries of "discrimination."

What's at stake in this Boy Scout controversy is not just the future of Scouting. It is also the future of the institution of marriage and whether or not we will undergo yet another "fundamental transformation of America."

I originally pledged to Tico to create an organization which would support top BSA leadership. Sadly and ironically, I am now instead leading the national movement OnMyHonor.Net, to criticize him and other top BSA leaders for not being brave enough to stand up to their own adult peers and do what is right by standing up for what is the "absolute best" for the boys in Scouting.

Boy Scouts | The Boy Scouts ask conservative activist Ralph Reed to set up meetings with Christian leaders it looks to sway on the issue of gay Scouts

5/13/13
Sometime during the week of May 20, about 1,400 delegates representing Boy Scout troops from across the country will gather in Texas and vote on a proposed policy that, if passed, would allow openly homosexual boys to be Scouts while continuing a ban on homosexual leaders.

Most conservative Christians oppose the proposal, so the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has engaged a high-profile adviser to help them make their case: Ralph Reed.

WORLD learned that Reed, founder of the Christian Coalition and now president of the Faith and Freedom Coalition, has arranged meetings and conference calls between Christian conservative leaders and BSA officials who support the pro-gay resolution. According to John Stemberger, founder of OnMyHonor.Net, a group opposed to the policy change, “After the introduction is made, the BSA officials try to convince these top conservative evangelical leaders to support the resolution by finding friendly media venues to discuss it.”

Reed confirmed in a phone conversation with me that he had arranged conference calls in an attempt to be a “peacemaker” in the process. He said he had not personally participated in the calls and acknowledged he is paid a small retainer by the Boy Scouts. Reed would not disclose the amount of his fee except to characterize it as “de minimus.”

“[I would] deeply resent any implication that I am helping this policy to pass.” he added. “I am on record opposing a change in the current policy. Period.”

Stemberger, though, called Reed’s comment “doubletalk.” Regardless of Reed’s intention, Stemberger said, “these calls could not help but further the resolution.”

Among the conference calls Reed has set up, one was between the BSA and executives at Salem Communications, the largest Christian radio company in the country. Salem executives had no comment on the content of those calls but published a short editorial statement that aired on most of Salem’s approximately 100 radio stations. Read by Dr. Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., and a member of Salem’s editorial board, the statement said in part:

Quote
“The central authorities of the Boy Scouts of America have announced yet another compromise position on how they propose to deal with the issue of homosexual leaders and Scouts. This came just a year after the Boy Scouts insisted that it would stand behind its ban on openly gay scouts and scouting leaders. But then, earlier this year, they floated a compromise policy amounting to a ‘local option’ for troops. After the outrage from that proposal, the new proposed policy will require all troops to accept boys without regard to sexual orientation, but they will retain an outright ban on openly homosexual adults serving as scout leaders. As one mother said, ‘I knew they would try to split the baby in the end.’ And that’s exactly what they have attempted to do again. In the end, it will please no one.”

UPDATE: In an email to WORLD, Ralph Reed stressed “my 43-year involvement in the Boy Scouts, the fact that I am an Eagle Scout, [and] the fact that I sit on the executive board of one of the most respected local councils in the country [the North Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts].” He said his role was to “facilitate a dialogue.” Neither Reed nor the Boy Scouts would say how much the organization is paying Reed.

Los Angeles Boy Scouts Branch Wants Practicing Homosexuals Teaching Young Boys

The Los Angeles branch of the Boy Scouts of America is calling for the organization to allow homosexual men to lead and train scouts.

Alan Snyder of the Los Angeles County Council wrote in a news release this week that while the national headquarters of the organization is currently considering allowing boys with same-sex attraction to serve as members, the proposed change to the scouting policy needs to go further.

“The resolution is a step in the right direction, but does not go far enough and must be extended to all adult scout volunteers and staff,” he wrote. “Inclusion must be all-inclusive.”

Snyder said that homosexual men should be allowed to train the boys just like any other leader.

Council President Nick Thomas agreed.

“Volunteers in our council log approximately 840,000 hours of service each year and should be judged on the basis of their character, not their sexual preference,” he said.

The men suggest that the current scouting policy should be amended to read, “No youth or adult shall be denied membership or a position in the Boys Scouts, whether as a leader, volunteer, or staff member, solely on the basis of their sexual orientation or preference.”

Current scouting policies prohibit homosexual men from serving as leaders over the children.

In the 2000 Supreme Court decision of case of Boy Scouts of America v. Dale, the nation’s highest court outlined that the organization ”teach[es] that homosexual conduct is not morally straight,” and that it does “not want to promote homosexual conduct as a legitimate form of behavior.” It then affirmed the Boy Scouts’ right to freedom of association, which means excluding homosexual members as they do not comport with the mission of the organization.

Rob Schwarzwalder, senior vice president of Family Research Council, told reporters that it is dangerous to place men that have sexual attraction toward those of the same gender in charge of juvenile boys.

“As a father, I wouldn’t want my sons to go on a camping trip with a teenage girl and stay in the same tent. Similarly, I think it’s unwise to put boys or young men in a tent with boys or young men who are homosexual,” he outlined.

As previously reported, last October, the Oregon Supreme Court ordered thousands of documents outlining widespread sexual abuse in the Boy Scouts of America to be released to the public. Wayne Perry, president of the Boy Scouts of America acknowledged that there was concern with the  the organization’s failure to protect young boys from harm.

“There have been instances where people misused their positions in scouting to abuse children, and in certain cases, our response to these incidents and our efforts to protect youth were plainly insufficient, inappropriate, or wrong,” he said. “Where those involved in scouting failed to protect, or worse, inflicted harm on children, we extend our deepest and sincere apologies to victims and their families.”

“These guys basically were in a candy store, the way they thought about it,” attorney Paul Mones told reporters.

The organization has yet to respond to the Los Angeles Council’s request. It is set to vote on permitting homosexual members on May 23rd.

Boy Scouts Pressured to Accept Atheists

"Good Boy Scouts Don't Need God," declares the headline in USA Today. According to the author, dropping the requirement that Scouts believe in God is "the right thing to do." He quotes the president of the Freethought Society, who "is leveraging the new focus on Boy Scout inclusion policies to prompt a fresh look at its ban on atheists." Now that Scouts will include gay members, she hopes atheists will be next in line.

This is not the first time pressure has been brought against the Scouts on behalf of atheists. The Freedom From Religion Foundation has petitioned President Obama to advocate for atheist Scouts. A California bill would remove the BSA's tax exempt status so long as it maintains its position on faith in God. An editorial in The Washington Post criticized the Scouts for their faith requirement.

As you know, Louie Giglio was pressured to withdraw from the 2012 presidential inauguration for declaring biblical truth regarding homosexuality. More recently, Greg Laurie was attacked for his "homophobic" message when he was chosen as honorary chair of the National Day of Prayer. When Sojourners declined to run a website ad sponsored by a pro-gay Christian group, they were widely criticized as well.

In a day when standing for biblical truth is so difficult, what should Christians do?

Rich Stearns is president of World Vision, one of the largest Christian relief organizations in history. His first book, The Hole in Our Gospel, was one of the most powerful calls to social ministry I've ever read. Its sequel has just been released, Unfinished: Believing is Only the Beginning. In a recent interview he was asked, "What one message do you want Christians in the U.S. to hear?"

Here's his thoughtful answer: "Many people see the Christian faith today as having less and less relevance in our society, especially when we look at the issues most Christians care about during the election season. Christians are also worried about young people leaving the faith as more and more young adults claim no religious affiliation.

"How should Christians respond? Are we relevant by having short, peppy sermons and coffee bars in church? By offering advice on living nice, comfortable lives? A better response is to call the church back to Jesus' mission. We are to bring the whole gospel into the world, demonstrating a new, revolutionary way to live under God's rule—living out the kingdom values of compassion, mercy, and justice. We don't need to worry about so-called 'Christian issues' at the polls when we are confidently following Christ's call in every area of our lives and inviting others to join us."

MORE PROPAGANDA - Gay Boy Scouts Employee: I Can’t Live A Lie Any Longer

http://news.yahoo.com/gay-boy-scouts-employee-t-live-lie-longer-090031639.html
5/21/13

I am a full-time paid professional employee of the Boy Scouts of America. I am also gay.

I spend 14-hour days and 80-hour workweeks promoting the Scouting program and providing the best possible services to building and retaining membership. I do this with honor because I am a product of the program. I am an Eagle Scout and a member of Scouting’s Honor Society. I’ve dedicated more than two decades of my life to the Boy Scouts of America – first as a Scout, and now with over five years as an employee.

The Boy Scouts offered me many important life experiences and skills as a scout. These included skills in leadership, communication and conflict resolution. Many experiences and memories were made that still impact my life now. These opportunities need to be made available to all youth, regardless of their sexual orientation.

There are dozens of other gay professionals like me in the Scouts. I have met them through scouting training courses and programs for adult leaders and employees. We dedicate ourselves to the scouting program, fully supporting the organization. Yet, we live with apprehension, hiding our personal lives and not knowing if we could be outed and fired at any given moment. We’re constantly faced with awkward questions about our personal lives. While the Scouts proclaim to be a “family organization,” for us, there are two options to having a family: hide the people we love or leave scouting. Due to this ban, not only can my coworkers not know who I am, but many of my friends and neighbors do not know. I live my life in silence as a result of the scouts’ anti-gay policy. I constantly fear being fired.

As an employee, I have a unique commitment to the organization, but I also face losing my job every single day because of who I am. My hope is to make scouting stronger, so it may flourish in local communities. But in order for scouting to continue as the premier youth-serving agency in this country, it must be inclusive of gay boys and adults. And I’ll tell you why.

The Boy Scouts of America is not, I believe, on a sustainable path as long as any portion of the ban on gay members in Scouting continues. Strategic partnerships will be drastically reduced. I have personal experience working with many organizations, which refused to be a partner with my local scouting council because of the ban on gay members. One instance particularly stands out because the organization was a statewide conservation group, and the Boy Scouts have taught me to be respectful and responsible with our natural world. The conservation group refused to work with the Boy Scouts because the staff feared their gay volunteers would be exposed to potential embarrassment by working with an organization which discriminates against gay people.

Employees know it is now more difficult to accomplish our recruiting and partnership goals because of the discriminatory ban. Twenty-eight of 30 national youth-serving organizations, many of which are our strategic partners, are strongly opposed to the anti-gay ban, and corporations nationwide are questioning their financial commitment to the Boy Scouts, or cutting ties altogether.

On Thursday, 1,400 scouting volunteers from all across the country will meet in Dallas to vote on a proposal that could end the ban on gay youth. Gay adult leaders and employees, like me, would remain banned from Scouting, however.

I have hoped for years that the time would come when the ban would be lifted. The Boy Scouts need to catch up to the American people’s view on equality. Boy Scout members span political parties, socioeconomic classes and live in locations as dense as New York City and as rural as Wyoming. A Washington Post – ABC News poll released just this month shows a majority of Americans believe that both gay youth and adults should be allowed to join the Boy Scouts of America.

The proposed resolution to allow openly gay youth is a good first step, but it cannot stop there. If the resolution to repeal the ban on gay Scouts is approved, dedicated gay adult volunteers and employees, like me, will still be kept in the closet, and I will have no choice but to resign. For too many years, I eschewed relationships, felt uncomfortable around co-workers and have been forced to remain cloaked in secrecy. I cannot continue to live in the shadows. It is not healthy, nor is it ethical.

This week, the nation will know if the Boy Scouts of America is listening to equality opponents, who would ultimately destroy the organization, or if acceptance and understanding will prevail. I dream of the day the Boy Scouts of America becomes a fully inclusive youth organization. All boys should be able to benefit, as I have, from scouting, regardless of their sexual orientation.

TIME has verified that the author, who prefers to remain anonymous, is an employee of the BSA.

Scouts await decision on gay membership
5/22/13
http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/05/22/18403808-scouts-await-decision-on-gay-membership?lite=

Cub Scout Pack 215 in rural Arkansas is waiting for a vote that could mean big changes for their tiny outfit.

That’s because of a decision being made Thursday at the national Boy Scouts of America annual meeting that will have ramifications for their pack and other Scout units across the country: whether or not to end its controversial policy banning gay Scouts.

The 1,400 delegates of the National Council will vote on the policy at the BSA meeting in Grapevine, Texas.

More than 70 percent of Boy Scout units are sponsored by a religious group, some that do not want to allow gay youth to join. One is Pack 215, chartered by the Eagle Heights Baptist Church in Harrison, Ark. The church’s pastor has said it will not stay on as sponsor if the policy is changed.

“This would be inconsistent with the biblical values and the essence upon which we operate our ministries,” said Pastor Jay Scribner, who said he would work with the pack to help it decide next steps should the policy change.

Scribner said the decision to pull sponsorship would come “with a heavy heart, but at the same time, with firm biblical convictions.”

The pack first learned of its potential fate in February from Scribner at the yearly Scout Sunday service, after the Boy Scouts initial announcement that it was thinking to include gay adult leaders as well as youth. After a vigorous public debate over the possible change in the longstanding membership guidelines, the private youth organization shelved the decision until the national meeting Thursday.

DALLAS – The Boy Scouts of America, one of the country’s largest and oldest youth organizations, decided Thursday to break 103 years of tradition by allowing openly gay members into its ranks.

The controversial move passed by more than 60 percent of the BSA’s national council. According to the new resolution, beginning Jan. 1, 2014, "no youth may be denied membership in the Boy Scouts of America on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone.”

Lifting the organization’s ban on gay adult volunteer leaders and paid staff was not considered and remains in place.

The historic change comes 13 years after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that BSA is a private club that is allowed to set its own rules for membership. Since then, public pressure has mounted for the Texas-based organization to change the exclusion, especially last year, when a gay California teen was denied his Eagle Scout award and an Ohio lesbian was removed as a den mother from her son’s troop.

Still, just 10 months ago, the Scouts reaffirmed their stance, saying a two-year confidential review revealed a majority of the organization’s parents wanted to keep the policy.

The about-face to put it to a vote came “out of respect for the diverse beliefs of Scouting's chartered organizations,” according to the BSA website.

The emotionally charged issue has seen those for and against wage costly public relations campaigns and has fostered intense debate from coast to coast.

“My concern all along has been boy-on-boy sexual contact,” John Stemberger, an Eagle Scout and organizer of On My Honor, told the Dallas Morning News in April. “If this resolution passes, it will be open season for gay young men. How do we protect the Scouts who are not gay?”

The Scouts point out that the new resolution reinforces that “any sexual conduct, whether heterosexual or homosexual, by youth of Scouting age is contrary to the virtues of Scouting.”

Gay-rights activists have held a public summit this week, not far from the location of the annual BSA gathering.

“There is nothing Scout-like about exclusion of other people, and there is nothing Scout-like about putting your own religious beliefs before someone else’s,” Zach Wahls, an Eagle Scout and founder of Scouts for Equality, told supporters at a Wednesday rally.

An alleged Christian-based organization will now allow gays. Go figure. There is nothing Christian about them!

People who disagree with that reprobate organization need to simply leave it and quit putting their children at risk with those wicked people because their actions is just teaching those kids that no matter what you believe, you must compromise "for the greater good", which is not good at all but pure evil.

Boy Scouts' historic vote won't end the debate

GRAPEVINE, Texas -- Seen as a small step toward a greater goal or a wrong step for a century-old organization, a vote Thursday to lift a ban on gay youth in the Boy Scouts won't end the debate.

Over 61 percent of Scouting's National Council of 1,232 delegates from across the country voted to lift the ban during the Boy Scouts of America’s annual national gathering. The policy change will go into effect Jan. 1, 2014.

"This has been a challenging chapter in our history," said Wayne Brock, the BSA's chief Scout executive. "Our goal through all of this was to put the kids first."

What was not considered Thursday was lifting a ban on gay Scout leaders.

"We have not changed our adult membership standards. They have served us well for the last 100 years. Those were not on the table," said Tico Perez, BSA national commissioner.

And so while the nation’s approximately 116,000 Scouting units and 3 million members officially must open their doors to gay youth, a push to change those adult membership standards will resume.

"One day, we'll be back, and I'm not going to stop until we're there," said Ohio mom Jennifer Tyrrell, who was ousted in April 2012 as den leader of her son's Tiger Cub pack because she is a lesbian.

"Tomorrow, we're going to start the next phase, and I'm ready."

Some opponents of ending the ban said they would pull their sponsorships of packs and troops, and parents threatened to take their boys out of Scouting.

Rusty Tisdale, assistant Scoutmaster for a troop in Ellisville, Miss., hopes there is a local option that would allow the decision on gay members to be made at the troop level. Otherwise, he will pull his kids.

"I'm not happy as a parent," Tisdale emailed to NBC News. "The gay activist isn't happy and will not be until homosexuals can be leaders, etc. So there will be more pressure, and more fighting, And more acquiescence. No thanks."

"There are other activities for my kids to do," he added. "There are other organizations that I can support with my time and money."

The ban on gay Scouts has been the subject of much soul-searching in the organization – from local troops and councils to national board meetings. The dispute was even heard by the Supreme Court, which said 13 years ago that as a private membership organization, the BSA was free to decide who it would admit.

Last summer, the Boy Scouts reaffirmed their anti-gay policy after a two-year examination by a committee. Since then, some local chapters had been pushing for a reconsideration.

More than 70 percent of Boy Scout units are sponsored by religious groups, and this compromise proposal has split them. One of the Southern Baptist Church leaders, Dr. Frank Page, last week implored the Boy Scouts not to change the policy. But The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints – the BSA's biggest charter partner – had given tacit endorsement to the plan.

BSA President Wayne Perry said the vote came after an "extensive," "exhaustive," and "respectful" dialogue among the members of the organization.

"It's a very difficult decision for a lot of people, but we are moving forward together," he said. "Our vision is to serve every kid."

Pascal Tessier, a gay 16-year-old from Kensington, Md., felt hopeful after the vote. He believes he can get his Eagle rank — the Scouts' highest honor — in the fall.

"There are a lot of things going through my head," he said. "The initial reaction is ecstatic because I can go home and tell everyone that I'm still a Boy Scout."

But he said he also felt bad for gay leaders.

So you expose them to a vile, reprobate mindset. Not only not discouraging it, but promoting it as acceptable. The Lord rebuke that wicked spirit!

It seems like everytime these agendas come to a *compromise*, the floodgate for the Hegelian Dialectic war just really opens up - it's not just the "conservative" organizations like the Southern Baptist Convention that's considering withdrawing their support, but even pro-gay rights groups like GLAAD are considering as well b/c gay scout leaders aren't accepted.

And FWIW too, the Boy Scouts are a secular organization to begin with, so why has Churchianity given them their support to begin with? Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers...

After vote on gay youth, Scouts face more turmoil
http://news.yahoo.com/vote-gay-youth-scouts-face-more-turmoil-203143778.html
5/24/13

The Boy Scouts of America will get no reprieve from controversy after a contentious vote to accept openly gay boys as Scouts.

Dismayed conservatives are already looking at alternative youth groups as they predict a mass exodus from the BSA. Gay-rights supporters vowed Friday to maintain pressure on the Scouts to end the still-in-place ban on gay adults serving as leaders.

"They're not on our good list yet," said Paul Guequierre of the Human Rights Campaign, a national gay-rights group. He said the HRC, in its annual rankings of corporate policies on workplace fairness, would deduct points from companies that donate to the Boy Scouts until the ban on gay adults is lifted.

In California, gay-rights leaders said they would continue urging passage of a bill pending in the Legislature that would make the BSA ineligible for nonprofit tax breaks because of the remaining ban.

The Boy Scouts' chief executive, Wayne Brock, pleaded for the Scouting community to reunite after the divisive debate that led to Thursday's vote by the BSA's National Council. The proposal to lift the ban on openly gay youth — while keeping the ban on gay adults — was supported by about 60 percent of the council's 1,400 voting members.

However, Brock's plea failed to sway some conservative religious leaders whose denominations sponsor many Scout units and who consider same-sex relationships immoral.

"Frankly, I can't imagine a Southern Baptist pastor who would continue to allow his church to sponsor a Boy Scout troop under these new rules," Richard Land, a senior Southern Baptist Conference official, told the SBC's news agency, Baptist Press.

Land advised Southern Baptist churches to withdraw their support of Scout troops and consider affiliating instead with the Royal Ambassadors, an existing SBC youth program for boys that combines religious ministry with Scouting-style activities.

Baptist churches sponsor Scout units serving more than 100,000 of the BSA's 2.6 million youth members.

The Assemblies of God, which oversees units serving more than 2,000 Scouts, said it could no longer support such units and suggested its own Royal Rangers youth group as a "positive alternative."

John Stemberger, a conservative activist and former Scout from Florida who led a group opposing the policy change, said he and his allies would convene a meeting next month in Louisville, Ky., to discuss creation of a "new character development organization for boys."

"We grieve today, not because we are faced with leaving Scouting, but because the Boy Scouts of America has left us," Stemberger said. "Its leadership has turned its back on 103 years of abiding by a mission to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices."

There is a template for forming a conservative alternative to a major national youth organization. American Heritage Girls was formed in 1995 as a Christian-oriented option to the Girl Scouts of the USA, and it now claims more than 20,000 members.

From the left, gay-rights supporters — including President Barack Obama — generally welcomed the move to accept openly gay Scouts, but urged the BSA to take the further step of welcoming gay adults as leaders.

White House spokesman Shin Inouye said Obama "continues to believe that leadership positions in the Scouts should be open to all, regardless of sexual orientation."

Rich Ferraro of GLAAD, formerly known as the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, said his group would continue a campaign to discourage corporate giving to the Boy Scouts until the ban on gay adults is lifted.

He also predicted that the presence of openly gay boys in Scout ranks would undermine the viability of the adult ban as those youth turn 18 and seek leadership posts.

"The BSA now will have to look gay teens in the eye, boys who've been involved in Scouting for years, and tell them they're not going to be able to grow into adult leaders," Ferraro said. "Those conversations will be difficult and shouldn't be had."

Eagle Scout Zach Wahls, a 21-year-old activist raised by lesbian mothers in Iowa, has been a leader of the campaign to end the BSA's no-gays policy. He said his group, Scouts for Equality, would continue to press for lifting the ban on gay adults, while also monitoring how the BSA implements its new policy for gay youth.

"We'll act as a watchdog," he said. "If any gay youth feel they're experiencing harassment or discrimination, we want to be there for them."

For some parents of Scouts, the entire membership debate has been emotionally draining, and the decision to accept openly gay youth left them disenchanted or confused.

Wes Comer, whose family attends an Apostolic Pentecostal church near Knoxville, Tenn., that considers homosexuality sinful, had been wrestling with whether to pull his eldest son out of the Scouts if the no-gays policy was abandoned.

"To be honest, I'm torn at this point," Comer said Friday in an email. "I'm not sure exactly what our decision will be."

"If I place this situation in the context of my religious beliefs, I'm forced to ask myself, 'Would I turn a homosexual child away from Sunday school? From a church function? Would I forbid my children to be friends with a gay child?' I can't imagine a situation where I would answer 'yes' to any of those questions. So how can I in this one?" he wrote.

Yet he said was "extremely disappointed" in the entire debate, and suggested that the BSA "has dealt itself a mortal blow."

Another Scouting father, Don Mack, of Waconia, Minn., said he and his 10-year-old son will be leaving Cub Scouts after the current year is done and his son gets his Arrow of Light Award.

Mack, a Scout himself as a boy and a self-described conservative Christian, has been a Cub Scout leader for about five years. Now, because of the vote to admit gay youth, he and his son both want out. And they'll be looking for an alternative program that offers similar character-building benefits as the Scouts.

"We home-school, and my wife and I teach our son you need to stand up for what's right, even if that means sacrifice or getting hurt in the process," Mack said. "It was not an easy choice for us to make because our family believed in the mission Scouting has to offer. I kind of feel like my best friend died."

Groups Predict Mass Exodus From Boy Scouts Over Vote to Allow Openly Homosexual Members

A number of Christian groups across the nation are predicting that there will be a ‘mass exodus’ from the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) following yesterday’s vote to permit openly homosexual boys and teens as members.

As previously reported, the results of the vote were announced Thursday evening, with over 60 percent in favor of altering the organization’s current policy, which bars “open or avowed homosexuals or who engage in behavior that would become a distraction to the mission of the BSA.”

Over 1,400 scouting members reportedly cast their ballot over the issue as the BSA gathered for its annual meeting in Grapevine, Texas this week. The resolution posed the question of whether prospective scouts should be denied membership “on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone.”

“The Boy Scouts of America will not sacrifice its mission, or the youth served by the movement, by allowing the organization to be consumed by a single, divisive, and unresolved societal issue,” the organization commented in a statement after announcing the results of the vote. “While people have different opinions about this policy, we can all agree that kids are better off when they are in scouting. Going forward, our scouting family will continue to focus on reaching and serving youth in order to help them grow into good, strong citizens.”

It noted, however, that sexual activity will still not be permitted among scouts.

“The resolution also reinforces that scouting is a youth program, and any sexual conduct, whether heterosexual or homosexual, by youth of scouting age is contrary to the virtues of scouting,” the statement advised.

The outcome came as a great disappointment to many Christian organizations nationwide, including ministry leaders who had once served in the Scouts themselves. Consequently, a number of groups are predicting a mass exodus from BSA as a result of the decision.

“We believe that the BSA policy change will lead to a mass exodus from the Boy Scout program, as Assemblies of God and many other churches can no longer support groups that are part of an organization allowing members who are openly homosexual,” wrote the national denomination in an official press release.

The Southern Baptist Convention agreed.

“I think there will be an immediate exodus,” said spokesman Roger “Sing” Oldham. “I don’t know how large that immediate exodus will be, but then I think there’ll be a continual attrition over time.”

“I think what we’re going to see in the next year or so is a mass exodus of adults and boys from the Boy Scouts of America program,” Randy Sharp of the American Family Association likewise told reporters. “Some of the estimates that I’ve heard are up to 400,000 to 500,000 boys and adults will resign their positions with the Boy Scouts of America.”

Joe Glover of Virginia Family Policy Network urged parents to pull their children out immediately.

“Parents should only place their children in the care of people who readily accept God’s definition of what it means to be ‘morally straight,’” he said. “Unfortunately, the leaders of the Boy Scouts of America have chosen a form of moral character that arrogantly rejects God’s written word.”

John Stemberger of the Florida Family Policy Council advised that for those who are exiting the Scouts, he plans on forming a similar organization, but with completely Christian values. Stemberger stated that a meeting will be held next month in Kentucky to discuss the effort.

“There we will discuss the creation of a new character development organization for boys,” he explained. “We will host and facilitate a national coalition meeting of former BSA parents and other youth leaders who wish to return to truly timeless values that once made the BSA great.”

Well, we'll see - again, the Boy Scouts of America is a secular organization, so I have no idea why these Churchianity organizations were supporting it from the beginning.

My Take: Why my family is quitting the Boy Scouts

Editor's Note: John Stemberger is an Eagle Scout and president of On My Honor, a coalition of concerned parents, Scout Leaders, Scouting donors, Eagle Scouts and others affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America who are united in their support of Scouting’s timeless values and their opposition to open homosexuality in the Scouts. Find more information at www.OnMyHonor.net.

By John Stemberger, Special to CNN

(CNN)– On Thursday, delegates to the Boy Scouts of America’s national conference met in Grapevine, Texas, to determine the fate of one of the most beloved organizations in this country’s history. This organization that has stood the test of time will probably be destroyed now that they have decided to admit openly gay boys as Scouts.

Sex and politics have no place in the Boy Scouts, and allowing open homosexuality will lead to myriad bad consequences.

First, the new BSA policy is logically incoherent and morally and ethically inconsistent. The BSA had never discriminated against homosexuals. The BSA membership application did not ask about sexual orientation, and there has never been a witch hunt in the BSA to find or remove its gay members.

Now, however, open homosexuality will be officially consistent with the Scouting code throughout a Boy Scout’s life until the moment he turns 18, when it suddenly becomes a problem. (The Scouts maintained its ban on openly gay leaders.) How does that make any sense? Will we then discriminate against that Scout after he announces his sexuality?

Further, the new policy forces every chartered Scouting unit, irrespective of religious convictions, to facilitate open homosexuality among boys in their program. The policy fails to respect or revere the religious beliefs, values and theology of the vast majority of Christian churches, which charter more than 70% of all Scouting units.

The new policy also leaves all Scouting units with no options and no legal protection if they refuse to allow open homosexuality among the boys of their units. Any Scouting unit that refuses to accept or abide by the new policy will either have their charter revoked by national BSA leadership or become fully exposed to legal attacks for alleged violations of nondiscrimination ordinances. Litigation would permeate the organization.

Most important, the new policy robs parents of Boy Scouts, like me, of the sole authority to raise issues of sex and sexuality with their kids.

Parents should have the exclusive right to raise issues about sex and sexuality with their children in their own time and in their own way, in the privacy of their homes, not brought up by other older boys around a campfire. Allowing open homosexuality injects a sensitive and highly charged political issue into the heart of the BSA, against the wishes of the vast majority of parents.

This is why my wife and I have decided to disengage from BSA and remove our children from its programs. We are concerned for the safety and security of our boys, as are many other parents who are considering leaving as well.

When it comes to young boys, parents have the final say, not the gay rights activists who pressured the BSA to fall in line with their agenda and have turned Scouting into yet another cultural battleground.

The delegates who voted for the new policy must therefore realize that the change guts a major percentage of human capital in the BSA and will utterly devastate the program financially, socially and legally.

The BSA’s own “Voice of the Scout” surveys provide solid evidence that tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of parents, Scoutmasters and Scouts will leave the program, and internal estimates project an estimated $44 million of lost annual revenue.

The Boy Scouts are one of the great jewels of American culture. And the success of the Boy Scouts of America is due in no small part to their commitment to a set of ideas and principles that have guided the program for more than 100 years.

I love the Boy Scouts and want my boys to enjoy the same great experiences as I and millions of others have had over the years. That's why I regret that Thursday's vote refused to keep sex and politics out of the Boy Scouts and stand firm for those timeless principles.

The opinions expressed in this commentary are solely those of John Stemberger.

RIP, Boy Scouts of America

What's next for the Boy Scouts?

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? (Mark 8:36)

It’s a sad day for both Scouting and for freedom. Indeed, it’s a sad day for America. The century-old Boy Scouts of America (BSA)--created in 1910 to “prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes”--has betrayed its own constituency, mission, oath and law.

Last Thursday, approximately 1,400 adult BSA delegates from around the country gathered in Texas and decided, in a disgracefully lopsided vote, to welcome into its ranks, “open and avowed” homosexuality (boy-on-boy sexual attraction and behavior), thereby disavowing the “morally straight” Scout Oath its members are sworn to uphold.

They voted unwisely.

History will reflect that on this day the BSA turned from morally straight to immorally bent--that this once great organization--founded on “honor,” “reverence” and biblical morality--was crushed beneath the worldly weight of pagan idolatry.

Whereas, for over a century, millions of boys have raised their right hands, swearing “on my honor” to “do my duty to God and my country”--on this day, hundreds of adult delegates likewise raised their right hands, shook their fists at God and flipped their middle fingers at both the boys they serve and the parents who trusted them.

While endeavoring to “gain the world,” this once honorable institution has forfeited its soul.

Scripture admonishes: “For the wages of sin is death.” (Rom. 6:23). This was a catastrophic miscalculation. It was sin, and, tragically, through this sin, the BSA has now effectively sealed its own fate. It has set into motion its own demise.

Even by its own estimates, BSA leadership admits that the decision will likely result in a mass exodus from Scouting. They anticipate that as many as 400,000 Scouts and Scouters will leave the organization (acceptable casualties in the war on morality, I guess). Still, as devastating as this number is, it too represents a gross miscalculation.

Consider, for instance, that when Canada’s version of the Boy Scouts voted in 1998 to welcome open homosexuality, its membership rolls plummeted by over half in just five years, forcing camp closures, staff layoffs and huge budget cuts. Looking north of the border for clues, then, we can expect that, with current membership at around 2.6 million, it’s more likely that roughly 1.5 million Boy Scouts and troop masters will walk.

Then again, we’re talking about “progressive” Canada. This is the good ol’ USA. With over 61 percent of Scouts, Scouters and parents opposing the homosexualization of Boy Scouts, and over 70 percent of U.S. Scout groups sponsored by churches and religious organizations, it’s not unreasonable to expect that defections will even exceed this estimate.

In short, BSA’s betrayal may well result in near-total ruin. The wages of sin is death.

Here’s the reality: Reality has not changed. Objective truth did not suddenly and miraculously reverse itself on May 23, 2013. As BSA has always acknowledged (until Thursday), homosexual behavior remains empirically disordered and immoral. The only thing that has changed is politics.

Ultimately, this decision had nothing to do with “tolerance” or “inclusivity.” Neither did it concern the best interests of the boys who make up Boy Scouting. Instead, this decision was rooted in pure evil. It had everything to do with money. “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” (1 Timothy 6:10).

And wandered from the faith they have.

Now come the many griefs.

Really, three things drove this decision: Fear, greed and politics. A number of high-dollar corporate donors threatened to pull funding from BSA if they maintained the existing policy on sexual morality. Additionally, a number of extremist pressure groups, aided by a sympathetic left-wing media, brought tremendous pressure to bear.

But the pressure’s not going away. The BSA made a critical error in judgment. It showed weakness. This has only whipped these radicals into a heightened frenzy. Within moments of the “gay” announcement, Nancy Pelosi called the move “an important first step.” The Human Rights Campaign demanded “the new policy doesn’t go far enough,” and Mother Jones, a liberal online publication, posted an article titled, “Boy Scouts: You Can Be Gay Until You’re 18.”

Sin is never satisfied. The homofascist thirst for absolute affirmation is unquenchable.

What’s the next step? Activists now demand that adult men who desire sex with other males (“gay” scout masters) be allowed to take your sons camping overnight. Soon they’ll be insisting that “transgender boys” (girls who wish they were boys) be allowed to join as well.

What a camping trip. Imagine the pup tent. Your son and Jimmy--who’s got a crush on him--along with Billy and Billy’s boyfriend Bobby, all snuggly warm in the middle of nowhere. But make room for Sammy (formerly Suzie) and Sammy’s boyfriend Gary (formerly Gertrude).

Don’t forget to hang the disco ball.

And “always be prepared.”

You think there won’t be new membership stagnation? Who wants to sign their boy up for the “Gay Scouts”? What’s a kid gotta to do to earn his “tolerance badge”? Parents, you might want to get out while the gettin’s good. As one Eagle Scout told me, “I’m not leaving the Boy Scouts, the Boy Scouts left me.”

It’s only a matter of time until BSA caves on these demands as well. They’ll admit “gay” men and girls soon. They have no choice. Now that they’ve opened the door, they’ve waived the only legal defense they once had: religious and moral conviction.

But here’s the good news. I and dozens more will be convening for a coalition meeting of pro-family leaders next month in Louisville, Ky., to discuss the creation of a moral alternative to the Boy Scouts. Nature abhors a vacuum. We intend to fill it.

Still, until then, please join me as we mourn the loss of this once honorable organization. The Boy Scouts of America: Born Feb. 8, 1910 – Died May 23, 2013.

May it rest in peace.

GLAAD Continues Push for Boy Scouts to Allow Openly Homosexual Leaders

A prominent homosexual advocacy group is continuing its push to end the ban on openly homosexual leaders in the Boy Scouts of America.

GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) states that while it applauds the recent vote to allow avowed homosexual youth as members in the Boy Scouts, it believes that the remaining ban on openly homosexual leaders should also be repealed. The organization has been using an online effort to prompt further changes in the Scouts.

“The Boy Scouts of America voted to end its ban on gay scouts, which is a huge victory for gay youth,” GLAAD writes on its website. “But gay scout leaders … are still banned from scouting. It’s time to keep up the pressure! GLAAD needs your help to make sure gay parents and adults are also able to participate.”

The group has been spearheading an effort since last year to urge the Boy Scouts to allow openly homosexual leaders following the dismissal of Jennifer Tyrell of Ohio, who was ousted from her position because her lifestyle conflicted with scouting policies. This past week, both GLAAD and Tyrell appeared at the Boy Scouts of America annual meeting in Grapevine, Texas to voice its opposition to the ban. Scouts for Equality and the Inclusive Scouting Network were also among those present.

Following the repeal of the current Scout policy regarding openly homosexual members, GLAAD representative Ross Murray appeared on MSNBC  to discuss his view that practicing homosexuals should be allowed to serve as leaders.

“[Allowing homosexual members but not leaders] sends a very mixed message of, ‘We are training you to become leaders, but once you turn 18, we don’t trust you to be leaders within your organization,’” he said. “So, clearly there is still more work to be done until the Scouts are fully inclusive.”

Murray stated that with the new policy coming into effect next year, it will be difficult for many councils to deny a leadership role to a scout once they turn 18.

“Most of the scout leaders are scouts themselves,” he said. “Imagine someone being trained at 14, 15, 16, 17, who is so loyal and dedicated, and has proven their service to the Scouts. It’s going to be harder and harder and harder for local councils to look them in the eye on their 18th birthday and say, ‘Oh, you’re not worthy. You’re not moral. We’re going to kick you out of the organization.’”

“That’s why there are now councils that are passing discrimination policies,” Murray continued. “Here in New York, Connecticut, Minnesota — there have been places that have already put a fully inclusive policy in place.”

The organization has been petitioning about the matter with Tyrell, and has collected over 16,000 signatures to date.

However, others express deep concerns over such policy changes, including the recent amendment that passed in Grapevine last week.

Wayne Perry, president of the Boy Scouts of America, acknowledged the organization’s failure to protect young boys from harm.

“These guys basically were in a candy store, the way they thought about it,” attorney Paul Mones noted.

Alex Mason, policy analyst for the Family Policy Network in Forest, Virginia, told Christian News Network that concerns regarding homosexual leaders are very real and should not be overlooked.

“This … will only lead to the abuse and corruption of young men and boys,” he stated. ”Homosexuals are not always pedophiles, but anyone who doesn’t see the increased incidence of pedophilia among homosexuals simply isn’t paying attention.”

I was reading an article this morning over how Christian organizations like the SBC, Assemblies of God, etc were withdrawing their support.

Seriously - pedifile cases have been going on for years and years in the BSA - where was all of their outrage over THIS? And they're waiting until NOW?

The SBC is going to WAIT until next month to take a vote on this - why don't they withdraw RIGHT NOW?

Catholic leaders urge support for Boy Scouts after shift on gays

Well, of course they do  ::)

The U.S. Catholic Church’s top liaison to the Boy Scouts of America is telling Catholic Scout leaders and troop sponsors that the BSA’s new policy welcoming gay Scouts “is not in conflict with Catholic teaching” and they should continue to support scouting programs.

“Scouting is still the best youth-serving program available to all youth,” Edward P. Martin, chairman of the National Catholic Committee on Scouting, wrote in a May 29 letter addressed to “fellow Catholic Scouters.”

“We should be encouraged that the change in BSA’s youth membership standard is not in conflict with Catholic teaching,” Martin said, asking that “Catholic Scouters and chartered organization heads not rush to judgment.”

Martin said that despite some concerns, the NCCS had taken a neutral stance on a resolution adopted on May 23 by the BSA’s National Council.

In balloting that was seen as a potential watershed in the culture wars, more than 60 percent of the 1,400 members of the BSA council voted to allow gay Scouts while still barring gay men from being Scout leaders. The policy change takes effect Jan. 1.

Martin said that in the week following the vote, he and his colleagues consulted with the BSA, with other faith-based Scouting groups and with Catholic experts, and weighed feedback on social media before declaring themselves satisfied that the new policy would not conflict with Catholic teaching.

One of the experts Martin cited was Edward Peters, a canon lawyer popular with church conservatives who wrote that while he disliked the new policy it was not contrary to church doctrine.

Martin noted that Scouting policies still bar sexual activity of any kind, and that the Boy Scouts are still a religiously oriented group that prohibits members from promoting “any social or political position or agenda.” He also noted that many young Catholics themselves do not want to leave the Boy Scouts.

Martin’s comments will come as a relief to the BSA, because religious organizations comprise 70 percent of its sponsoring organizations and many fear the new policy could split American scouting. The Roman Catholic Church, which is the BSA’s third-largest sponsor, accounts for about 10 percent of the national total of 2.6 million Scouts. Mormons are the top sponsors, followed by United Methodists.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – the Mormons – has already signaled that it does not object to the new policy and United Methodist Scouting officials said they would continue to support the BSA. On the other side, Southern Baptists and other evangelical and conservative Christian groups have raised strong objections to the move and some have said they will explore alternatives to the Boy Scouts.

Martin’s letter may also be important in heading off a potential split within the Catholic Church over the new BSA policy.

Following the vote, a number of Catholics said the church should sever its ties with the BSA and launch alternative scouting groups. The Sunday after the BSA decision, the Rev. Derek Lappe of Our Lady Star of the Sea in Bremerton, Wash., announced that he was closing the parish’s scouting program in a lengthy broadside that called gays “loser men” and listed widely discredited reasons why some men are gay.

But most Catholics appear to be supportive of the move, and church leaders seem willing to find an accommodation given that Scouting is such a popular way of keeping boys connected to church.

Bishop Robert Guglielmone of Charleston, S.C., who is the hierarchy’s official adviser to the NCCS, attended the May 23 meeting of the BSA and said afterward that while he was “not particularly encouraged” by the vote “we can live with it.”

Since most boys are going to stay no matter what happens, Guglielmone told the National Catholic Register, “We have a real obligation to stay in dialogue and to stay connected to the program.”

But he warned the BSA that “if it gets to the point where some of our basic issues are threatened – such as being able to pick leaders for Catholic chartered groups or in diminishing the role of religion and God – then we will have to re-evaluate our participation in the program at that time.”

Each bishop can decide whether the new membership policy is acceptable. Guglielmone has written to every U.S. bishop, and Martin said the NCCS would develop a plan to ensure “a consistent message is delivered to dioceses, parishes, Catholic Scouters and the media” on the church’s views about allowing gay Scouts.

Churches Boot Boy Scouts for Lifting Ban on Openly Homosexual Members

Following the recent vote to lift the ban on open homosexual members in the Boy Scouts of America, a number of churches across the country have announced that they will be cutting ties with the organization.

Reports state that the majority of entities that charter with the Boy Scouts are either faith-based organizations or churches.  However, some churches have now decided not to allow the Scouts to use their facilities any more as the organization no longer represents their moral values.

Pastor Mike Shaw of the First Baptist Church of Pelham, Alabama is among those ending his alliance with the Scouts. He recently explained that his church could not in good conscience support the acceptance of sinful behavior.

“We don’t hate anybody,” Shaw told reporters. “We’re not doing it out of hatred. The teachings of the Scripture are very clear on this. We’re doing it because it violates the clear teaching of Scripture.”

Pastor Tim Hester of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky met with his board of elders recently, which likewise decided not to renew its charter with the Boy Scouts.

“Truly for us it’s a logical decision,” he said. “We cannot be distracted from the mission God has called us to.”

Hester noted, however, that the charter would be discontinued regardless of the results of the vote, but did not elaborate.

Connect with Christian News
Pastor Ernest Easley of Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia said that his church would no longer support the Scouts either.

“It is extremely sad,” he stated. “I’d never dreamed that I’d be standing in front of a group preaching on Sunday, encouraging parents to pull kids out of Boy Scouts of America.”

“If we’re a church that affirms God’s word as the inerrant word of God that we’re going to live by, that we’re going to raise our families by, that we’re going to do church by, then it may be sad, but it’s a simple decision,” Easley continued. “We are not going to put our arms around organizations that openly oppose the moral guidelines taught in God’s word.”

The Southern Baptist Convention plans to vote next month on a resolution in regard to the Scouting policy, which may result in additional churches distancing themselves from the organization.

“Baptists have stayed where they should and Scouts have left us,” Frank Page, president of the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee and a former scout, told reporters. “We believe there is an objective right and an objective wrong.”

As previously reported, a number of Christian organizations are predicting a mass exodus from the Boy Scouts of America following last month’s decision.

“I think what we’re going to see in the next year or so is a mass exodus of adults and boys from the Boy Scouts of America program,” said Randy Sharp of the American Family Association. “Some of the estimates that I’ve heard are up to 400,000 to 500,000 boys and adults will resign their positions with the Boy Scouts of America.”

“We believe that the BSA policy change will lead to a mass exodus from the Boy Scout program,” agreed the Assemblies of God headquarters. “Assemblies of God and many other churches can no longer support groups that are part of an organization allowing members who are openly homosexual.”

Boy Scouts March in Uniform at Utah Homosexual Pride Parade

Well... that didnt take long now did it..

Despite orders from their local council not to do so, a number of Boy Scouts and their leaders marched in uniform at the Salt Lake City homosexual pride parade yesterday.

Just days after the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) voted to end the organization’s ban on openly homosexual members, Salt Lake leaders arranged for the scouts to march in the parade, including Peter Brownstein, one of the local scoutmasters. Brownstein told NBC that a few adults and youth marched in uniform at the front of the homosexual pride parade, and that he also marched, but not in scoutmaster apparel.

“I was essentially intimidated and told not to wear my BSA uniform,” he told reporters. “So, I am unfortunately not in my BSA uniform, but am glad that others have chosen to do so.”

According to reports, an email to the scouts from Salt Lake City executive Rick Barnes outlined that members and leaders could participate in the parade, but not in uniform.

“[H]aving uniformed scouts and scouters in the gay pride parade this weekend is not acceptable and not allowed,” he wrote. “The new policy states that no person, youth or adult may use scouting to promote sexual orientation or any other political or social agenda.”

“That’s our official position. It always has been, there’s nothing new here,” Barnes told reporters. “We just don’t want people to use the Boy Scouts to advocate their positions.”

However, some of the leaders and members wore their uniform anyway. One of the participants was Kenji Mikesell, 18. He marched both with the scouts and the organization Mormons Building Bridges, which held signs such as “Jesus said love everyone.”

“It just feels like the right thing to do,” he said.

Scoutmaster Dave McGrath also wore his uniform at the event.

“This is not advocacy, unless marching in the Columbus Day Parade is advocacy for Italians or marching in the St. Patty’s Day in Boston or Chicago is advocacy for Irish,” he stated. “We are advocating as Boy Scouts within Boy Scouts to live their Scout Law.”

However, BSA headquarters disagrees.

“These individuals stated a personal opinion and do not represent scouting,” it wrote in a statement. “Scouting teaches people that often in life, one finds rules they don’t agree with, but a scout is to be obedient.”

“To simply disobey a rule because you disagree with it is not an example to set for youth,” it continued. “It is up to each council to determine how best to hold their leaders to the standards of Scouting. We will support the Greater Salt Lake Area Council as they determine the appropriate response.”

The American Family Association likewise expressed concern today, and called upon Christians to pull their children out of the organization.

“Just ten days after the BSA voted to accept open and avowed ‘gay’ scouts, the Scout Oath and Law are already falling apart,” it stated. “The first to fall was the pledge to be ‘morally straight.’ By defiantly marching in the parade, the BSA has now lost ‘trustworthy’ and ‘obedient.’”

“Immediately after the historic vote, activists were already screaming that the new policy doesn’t go far enough,” it continued. “They have vowed to continue their bully tactics until homosexual adults are openly accepted.”

Churches split on Scouts' welcoming of gay youth
6/5/13

In suburban Atlanta, northern Idaho and a number of other places, churches have moved swiftly to sever ties with the Boy Scouts of America in protest over the vote last month to let openly gay boys participate in Scouting.

To date, it's far from the mass defection that some conservatives had predicted before the vote by the BSA's National Council. But the exodus could soon swell, depending on the outcome of the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting next week in Houston.

Baptist leaders say the agenda is likely to include a resolution encouraging SBC-affiliated churches to phase out their sponsorships of Scout units.

"I would bet there would be a resolution expressing disappointment with the Boy Scouts' decision and calling on Southern Baptist churches to prepare for the need for alternatives," said the Rev. Russell Moore, president of the SBC's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission.

"How quickly that happens will probably differ from congregation to congregation," Moore said. "I do think most Southern Baptists see the Boy Scouts moving in a direction that's not going to be consistent with our beliefs."

The Southern Baptists — the largest Protestant denomination in the U.S. — already have a youth program for boys, the Royal Ambassadors. SBC leaders have suggested it could expand to accommodate boys leaving the Scouts.

According to BSA figures, Baptist churches sponsor Scout units serving about 108,000 of the BSA's 2.6 million youth members.

While many Baptist churches may be awaiting the outcome of next week's meeting, some already have decided to break with the BSA.

In Marietta, Ga., pastor Ernest Easley said his Roswell Street Baptist Church is ending its affiliation with Boy Scout Troop 204 that dates back to 1945.

"I never dreamed I'd have to stand up publicly and say to parents: 'Pull your kids out of the Boy Scouts,'" Easley told Baptist Press, the SBC's official news agency.

Baptist churches in Elizabethtown and Rineyville, Ky., Helena and Pelham, Ala., and Jacksonville, Ark., also say they're cutting ties with the BSA.

Tim Reed, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Gravel Ridge in Jacksonville, said in an e-mail that his congregation — including a 15-year-old boy on track to win the coveted Eagle Scout rank — strongly backed the decision to end sponsorship of a Scout troop.

"He was set to be one of the youngest boys to make Eagle," Reed wrote. "He said that he must uphold God's word over the Boy Scouts' decision no matter what the personal cost."

Among the latest to cut ties was Candlelight Christian Fellowship, a nondenominational church in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, which announced this week that it would end its charter of a Boy Scout troop at the end of this year.

"We're a Bible-believing church, and the Boy Scouts have opted to pursue a different moral path," said the associate pastor, Buck Storm. "It's a sad time for us."

In all, about 70 percent of the 116,000 Scout units in the United States are sponsored by religious organizations.

Some are liberal denominations that welcomed the change of policy on gay youths and want the Boy Scouts to go further by lifting the still-intact ban on gays serving as adult leaders. But some of the largest sponsors are relatively conservative churches that had long supported the Scouts' no-gays policy, and have been wrestling with how to respond to the May 23 vote.

To the relief of BSA leaders, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has said it accepts the new youth policy and will not cut ties. The Mormons sponsor more Scout units than any other organization, serving about 430,000 boys.

The United Methodist Church, the second-largest sponsor serving about 363,000 boys, has shied away from official endorsement or rejection of the BSA policy change. Some individual Methodist leaders have been critical, while the General Commission on United Methodist Men, which oversees the denomination's youth programs, says it will continue to support Scouting.

Similar divisions have surfaced within the Roman Catholic Church, the third-largest Scout sponsor serving about 273,000 youths.

A Catholic pastor in Bremerton, Wash., the Rev. Derek Lappe of Our Lady Star of the Sea, wrote an open letter to his parishioners announcing that the parish would cut its ties with the Scouts and develop new youth programs of its own.

"I am very aware that my objection to the change ... is increasingly considered bigoted and backward," Lappe wrote. "But I won't put public opinion ahead of the good of the boys and young men in my parish."

In the Chicago suburb of Crystal Lake, the pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church notified local Scout leaders that the church would no longer sponsor a Cub Scout pack and Boy Scout troop. In a letter conveying the decision, the Rev. Brian Grady wrote that it would be "not only unjust, but immoral" for straight boys to have to share tents on camping trips with gay Scouts.

And in Arlington, Va., Catholic Bishop Paul Loverde issued a statement saying the new membership policy "forces us to prayerfully reconsider whether a continued partnership with the BSA will be possible."

"It is highly disappointing to see the Boy Scouts of America succumb to external pressures and political causes at the cost of its moral integrity," said Loverde, who predicted the policy change will bring "continuing controversy, policy fights and discord."

However, the National Catholic Committee on Scouting — which works with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to coordinate the church's involvement in Scouting — has taken a more positive view of the policy change.

"We should be encouraged that the change in BSA's youth membership standard is not in conflict with Catholic teaching," Edward Martin, the committee's chairman, wrote last week in an open letter to Catholics involved in Scouting.

Martin, an Eagle Scout with five children who've been Scouts, said his committee would form a task force to work with Catholic dioceses and parishes on how best to go forward in light of the change.

"Our youth don't want to leave Scouting. Scouting is still the best program around," Martin wrote. "Let's continue this important journey together."

Another conservative denomination, the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, says it is "deeply concerned" by the policy change, and continues to deliberate on how it will respond.

From its headquarters in Texas, the BSA has formed a task force to smooth the path of implementing the new policy, which will take effect on Jan. 1, 2014.

Meanwhile, the BSA says it is reaching out to the organizations that sponsor Scout troops, including those which oppose the policy change.

"We're finding that for many people, when they read the new policy they see it is reflective of the beliefs of most of Scouting's major religious chartered organizations," said BSA spokesman Deron Smith.

Russell Moore, the Southern Baptist official, said he doubted the Scouts' outreach would succeed in overcoming his denomination's opposition to the policy change, in part because of a sense that the BSA will eventually lift the ban on gay adults serving as leaders.

"Most Southern Baptists are seeing a trajectory that we've seen before in other cultural institutions," Moore said. "We know how this movie ends."

After Scouts lift gay youth ban, Baptist group calls for firings

HOUSTON -- The Southern Baptist Convention on Wednesday called for the removal of some of the Boy Scouts’ leadership after the organization voted to allow gay youth to join, but did not ask its affiliated churches to pull their sponsorship of Scouting.

The convention approved the call in a resolution crafted by a committee at the group’s annual meeting in Houston. It comes three weeks after the Boy Scouts of America voted in an historic ballot to allow gay youth to join after the issue of LGBT membership had roiled the youth organization for years.

The resolution doesn't name specific Boy Scouts leaders, but noted it believed some in executive and board positions had tried to enact the membership change earlier this year without first getting input from “the full range of the Scouting family” and asked for the BSA to “remove” them.

Deron Smith, a spokesman for the BSA, responded by email, saying that the organization “has some of the finest volunteer leaders in the world. We are thankful for their tireless commitment to serving the youth of this nation and investing in its future.”

Allowing openly gay youth in Scouting, according to the Baptists resolution, "has the potential to complicate basic understandings of male friendships, needlessly politicize human sexuality, and heighten sexual tensions within the Boy Scouts."

Though gay adults are still banned, the Southern Baptists feel their inclusion is just a matter of time – a worry expressed by other conservative religious sponsors of the Boy Scouts.

“We express our well-founded concern that the current executive leadership of the BSA, along with certain board members, may utilize this membership policy change as merely the first step toward future approval of homosexual leaders in the Scouts,” the resolution said.

The resolution, however, did not go as far as recommending that Southern Baptist-affiliated churches leave the Boy Scouts.

But it asked those churches and families that planned to stay to “work toward the reversal of this new membership policy and to advocate against any future change in leadership and membership policy that normalizes sexual conduct opposed to the biblical standard."

For those that leave, as some have done, the convention asked them to explore a faith-based alternative, the Royal Ambassadors.

The impact of the vote is not clear. Though Baptist churches sponsor nearly 4,000 units consisting of more than 108,000 youth, the number of SBC-affiliated churches is unknown, according to the BSA, the SBC and the Association of Baptists for Scouting.

The SBC-affiliated churches are also autonomous and can handle SBC resolutions however they choose, said Roger Oldham, a spokesman for the convention’s executive committee.

The Boy Scouts have reached out to the religious institutions, which make up more than 70 percent of the organization’s charter partners and play a key role in the viability of Scouting units, to encourage them to stick with one of the nation’s most popular youth programs.

The BSA has maintained that the change, which takes effect Jan. 1, 2014, is consistent with Scouting’s values.

“Scouting’s youth member policy is not about the BSA endorsing homosexuality, or forcing its chartered organizations to do the same. This change allows Scouting to be more compassionate in its response to a young person who expresses a same sex attraction, but is not engaging in sexual activity, by no longer calling for their automatic removal from the program,” BSA spokesman, Deron Smith, said in an email.

“We believe the BSA policy is fully consistent with how Southern Baptist Churches respond to young people in their congregations and allows them to maintain their beliefs about homosexuality and minister to children who are still learning and developing,” he added. Since the membership change by the BSA’s National Council in late May, religious institutions have formulated their responses to the decision, issuing them over the last few weeks.

Some of the biggest BSA partners, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the United Methodist Men and Catholics (the National Catholic Committee on Scouting), have encouraged their members to stay with the Boy Scouts in statements of support. A statement from the Mormon church was read at religious services last week.

Still, some Baptist families have contacted NBC News, telling them that their church Scouting sponsor would be walking away, such as that for Pack 215 in Harrison, Ark. Other Christian conservative families have sought out faith-based alternatives, which another Boy Scouts charter partner – the Assemblies of God -- has urged them to consider.

But some in the Baptist family have encouraged churches to continue to offer the program, too.

A.J. Smith, president of the Baptist Scouting association, said he had received assurances from the Boy Scouts that charter partners could craft their own codes of conduct on the boys, which he believed would be sufficient to keep sexuality – a key issue for a number of Scouting families – out of the program.

“…I believe that it is possible, even desirable, for Baptist churches to continue to utilize Scouting as an outreach ministry of the church. How it is done, however, must change," he wrote in a statement dated June 7 and posted to the website. "No longer can a church simply give meeting space to the Scouts. Churches must take a proactive approach to Scouting and involve members of the local congregation alongside Scout parents as leaders, set expectations for leaders consistent with the values of the church.

“In this way churches can turn what looks like a negative into a positive, having an influence in shaping the values of another generation, and even reach youth that might not otherwise be reached with the gospel,” he added.

Carol Gilley, a member of an SBC-affiliated church whose pastor has said will drop its charter of her Pack 215, said she and her family would find a way to keep the program going locally. She has two sons in the Boy Scouts, too, and believes homosexuality is wrong.

"I'm not changing. I mean, my kids love what they do. We love what we do and we're just going to stick with it," she said of Scouting.

“Are they going to be harmed? Or are they going to be bad because they decided to stick with it? Heck no. No, they're not. ... It's almost like I'm defending homosexuality, and I'm not. It's just, it's there, it's there, and we have to deal with it."

Title: Southern Baptist Convention Takes On BSA Over Gay Scouting
Post by: Christian40 on June 13, 2013, 04:05:45 am
HOUSTON (AP) — The Southern Baptist Convention is expected to take a stand against the Boy Scouts of America’s acceptance of gay members at the denomination’s annual meeting in Houston this week.

Leaders of the nation’s largest Protestant denomination had fought against the change and warned Scouting leaders that allowing gay members could mean Southern Baptist churches would no longer sponsor troops.

Resolutions for the annual meeting were to be presented Wednesday and many observers expect one of them to address the Boy Scouts’ new policy in some way.

Because all Southern Baptist churches are independent, the denomination cannot force a church to drop ties with the Scouts. However, churches occasionally are kicked out of the convention for practices considered incompatible with Southern Baptist beliefs.

Former Southern Baptist President Bryant Wright recently announced that the church where he is pastor, Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, Ga., would stop sponsoring a troop after 13 years. Wright explained in a video posted on the church’s website that the problem with the new policy is not that it would allow gay Scouts, but that it would not allow Scout masters to counsel those Scouts to “live a life of sexual purity according to Scripture.”

The new policy, Wright said, “condones homosexuality as being consistent with the Scout oath of duty to God and moral uprightness.”

In all, about 70 percent of the 116,000 Scout units in the United States are sponsored by religious organizations. Many of those groups have decided to continue sponsoring troops. That includes the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which sponsors more Scout units than any other organization, serving about 430,000 boys.

The United Methodist Church is the second-largest sponsor serving about 363,000 boys. The denomination’s National Director of Scouting Ministries, Larry Coppock, is sending a letter this week that advises leaders to continue sponsoring troops.

“There are disheartened and disappointed people on both sides of the membership issue, but it is time to move forward and continue to promote scouting as a youth ministry,” he wrote.

On Tuesday, a delegate to the Southern Baptist Convention meeting made a motion asking the group’s Executive Committee appoint a task force to look into Scouting alternatives. That motion was referred to a committee, but leaders could still offer a resolution on the issue Wednesday.

The Southern Baptist Convention already has a youth group for boys called Royal Ambassadors, and there could be a call to expand that program.

Girl Scouts of Britain Replace 'God' with 'Myself' in Oath

On Wednesday, Great Britain’s Girl Guides (their equivalent of U.S. Girl Scouts) and Brownies removed God from their 103-year-old oath.

Instead of the passage where they used to promise to “love God,” they will now vow to be true to "myself" and develop "my beliefs." The organization said the move is intended to attract girls from secular families.

Andrea Minichiello Williams, CEO of Christian Concern, condemned the move, saying, "These values have their roots in a Christian outlook. Taking ‘God’ out of the promise denies the history and foundations of the movement without offering anything in its place, with the result that the organization will lose its distinctive ethos and end up meaning nothing."

Chief Guide Gill Slocombe protested that the organization consulted 40,000 before it made the change. She said that using God in the pledge “discouraged some girls and volunteers from joining,” and now the Guides could “reach out to girls and women who might not have considered guiding before, so that even more girls can benefit from everything guiding can offer.”

Julie Bentley, the new CEO of the Guides, has called the Girl Guides the “ultimate feminist organization.”

The Girl Guides in Australia also deleted God from the vow last year. The Boy Scouts in Great Britain are considering a similar move next month.

Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts in the United States still vow to “to serve God and my country.”

Instead of the passage where they used to promise to “love God,” they will now vow to be true to "myself" and develop "my beliefs." The organization said the move is intended to attract girls from secular families.

Now just how double-minded is that?

They are an alleged Christian group, designed for kids that are Christian. And the idea being it's for Christians. If somebody who is not Christian joins, it's with the understanding they joined a Christian-based group. You either convert, mind your manners as an unbeliever, or leave the group. Simple. But then yet again, they are of the world, and not true Christianity, and now their hypocrisy is openly showing.

They take God out, to appease "secular families"? Who do they want to please, men or God?

"For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ." Galatians 1:10 (KJB)

Girl Scouts March in Gay Pride

If the newly gay-friendly Boy Scouts were paying attention last week, the may have caught a glimpse of their future.

According to USAToday, Girl Scouts marched in San Francisco’s infamous gay Pride Parade “for the first time.” Celebrating the “boost” that the DOMA and Prop 8 rulings gave to the Pride Parade, the article quoted Girl Scout parent Del Gregor, who brought her 11-year-old daughter to march in the parade, as saying that she wants her kids “to be able to tell their children they were a part of this.”

"By the time they're grown up, their kids won't believe there was a time when gay people couldn't get married," Gregor continued.

Another Girl Scout mom, Sandy Holmes, who accompanied her 11-year-old daughter Ariana, rejoiced at participating in "such a historic occasion.”

USAToday touted the Parade as being “the largest ever” at 1.5 million attendees, a celebration which including “loud music, dancing and varying degrees of risqué dress.” A Youtube video confirms that Girl Scouts did, in fact, march in the parade, which was led this year by Edie Windsor, the woman who fought to have DOMA struck down by the Supreme Court.

But really, it’s sort of surprising this didn’t happen earlier. Unlike the Boy Scouts, who endured years of media bullying before they caved to the gay agenda, the Girl Scouts happily welcomed transgenders in 2011 when they opened their ranks to boys who “identify” as girls. Not to mention that the Girl Scouts have had longstanding ties to abortion-giant Planned Parenthood that even some of the Girl Scouts’ gals have had problems with. So marching in a Gay Pride Parade isn’t too big of a shocker after other such blatant support for the liberal – and specifically LGBT – agenda.

Maybe they can get a pin added to their sashes for that.

Faith-based group starting alternative to Boy Scouts — will allow gay youth, adults

A faith-based group opposed to the Boy Scouts recent decision to allow gay youth to join has formed their own program for kids and teens in response — but they will also let gay youth and adults participate, leaders said Tuesday.

While the program, which doesn’t yet have a name, will allow gays, it won’t let them “flaunt” it, said John Stemberger, founder of OnMyHonor.net, a coalition opposed to the BSA’s vote in late May to change the controversial membership policy.

“We don’t think sex and politics should be in a program for kids. Those are issues for parents,”said Stemberger, of Orlando, Fla., who left the Boy Scouts along with his two sons over the decision in May.

“If a young man has a same-sex attraction he would not be turned away in the program, but he’s not going to be allowed to kind of openly flaunt it and carry a rainbow flag,” he added, apparently referring to the participation of some BSA members in LGBT pride parades in recent weeks.

“There is not going to be any kind of a witch hunt in our organization for people and what their sexual orientation’s are. We’re going to focus on sexual purity not sexual orientation.”

Stemberger, Boy Scout leaders from across the country and groups, like Faith Based Boys (created in the wake of the BSA decision) met on June 29 in Louisville, Ky., to craft the new organization. He said more than 30,000 Boy Scout leaders and parents in that program had been in touch with the faith-based alternative.

“The new program will be an exciting and motivating outdoor-based program, focused on leadership and character development for boys, and founded on principles and values that reflect a Christian world view,” said Rob Green, a former Boy Scout leader who is now interim executive director of the new organization. “We will be distinctly different from the Boy Scouts although there will be some similarities, for example, rank advancements that have been earned within the BSA will be transferable.”

However, the organization’s membership policy would focus on sexual purity rather than orientation.

“The policy will read in part, ‘the proper context for sexual relations is only between a man and a woman in the covenant of marriage,’” said Green, of Spartanburg, S.C.

The Boy Scouts membership policy, which had previously excluded openly gay youth (it still bans adults), dogged the organization in recent years. Families left Scouting after leaders and Scouts were ejected for being gay.

After the vote by the BSA’s national council in May, some church sponsors (more than 70 percent of BSA sponsors are churches) and families left the organization. But some who were opposed to the change opted to stay while yet others said they would re-join after once leaving over the issue.

The new faith-based grouping will hold its first national convention in Nashville from Sept 6-7. Families and BSA units that want to join can register in November, and the organization should be up and running on Jan. 1, 2014 – the same day when the new BSA membership policy takes effect.

Boys may come from every religious background, but adult leaders in the program will adhere to a standard statement of Christian faith and values, Green said.

“We don’t think sex and politics should be in a program for kids. Those are issues for parents,” said Stemberger, of Orlando, Fla.

Why don't they just get on with it and start a "Gay Scouts".  ::)

They could wear little pink uniforms, with ruffled sleeves, and a beanie hat.

Former Boy Scout Files Sex Abuse Lawsuit

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A former Boy Scout, now an adult, claims he was a victim of sexual abuse and spoke out anonymously of the alleged multiple times he was abused by more than one scout leader.

The victim, who grew up in Homestead, said he was sexually abused in the 80s.

“I was sodomized, raped and abused by three monsters that were at the Boy Scouts,” said the victim anonymously at a conference held Tuesday.

He claimed that two different leaders, one in Homestead and the other in Orlando, abused him. The leaders would, according to the alleged victim, would exchange information about the boys who were easy prey.

“Till this day I sleep with a night light on,” said the victim.

The alleged victim’s attorney, Jeff Herman, filed the suit against the Boy Scouts Of America and the local South Florida Boy Scout Council.

It was a child sex ring run by the Boy Scout leaders,” said Herman.

Herman said that the leaders would even take pictures of the young boys, claiming that there were files in the 80s with the Boy Scout Organization but it remained a secret.

The Boy Scouts of America released a statement regarding the claims:

“Any instance of child victimization or abuse is intolerable and unacceptable. While we can’t comment on the lawsuit, we deeply regret that there have been times when Scouts were abused, and for that we are very sorry and extend our deepest sympathies to victims. The BSA was one of the first youth programs to develop youth protection policies and education, and in the 30 years since these events took place has continuously enhanced its multi-tiered policies and procedures, which now include background checks, comprehensive training programs, and safety policies, like requiring all members to report even suspicions of abuse directly to local law enforcement.”

The victim said he never knew how to get the help he needed but now that he has a family of his own he is speaking out, hoping to get passed the incident and move on.

“They took my childhood, but they are not going to take my adulthood,” said the alleged victim.

The attorney, Herman, said the suspects in the case no longer live in South Florida and have not been charged.

A New Scouting Organization Brings Faith to the Forest

well of course the Catholic church would step in and take the place of God in the Scouts. Im sure all those sodomite catholic priests are just waiting to take over a troop of young boys into the woods.

Ongoing controversies surrounding the membership, leadership and policies of the Boy Scouts of America have left a lot of parents unsure of what other changes may come to the BSA in the future.

Among the responses to these concerns were calls for new alternative scouting groups (there are several existing ones) more strongly focused on specifically Christian beliefs and moral standards. One group that's sprung up is On My Honor, which had its first major meeting in late June and plans its first national convention in Nashville, Tenn., on Sept. 6 and 7, where the group's official name and logo will be announced.

On My Honor says it is open to "all boys irrespective of race, religion, ethnicity, or national origin." While it accepts members and their families from a variety of faiths, it states that all of the adult leaders "will adhere to a standard statement of Christian faith and values."

A little further under the radar, another scouting group has quickly grown from the vision of one man and, while it's not having a big convention in September, it's sending troops out into the wilderness to sharpen their outdoor skills and practice their faith.

On May 24, Texas outdoorsman, college chancellor/professor, Eagle Scout, and father of seven (including four boys) Dr. Taylor Marshall (pictured) announced on his blog, Canterbury Tales, his intention to create a new group. It was to be built on the principles set out by BSA founder Robert Baden-Powell in 1908, who chose St. George—the dragon-slaying patron saint of his native Britain—as also the patron of young men seeking strength and virtue.

Along with traditional scouting activities, Taylor wanted the group to also emphasize his faith, as a former Episcopalian priest who converted to Roman Catholicism.

In a few short months, the Scouts of St. George has become a reality, with troops springing up—largely but not necessarily connected to Catholic parishes—around the country and overseas. The first camp-out for a SSG troop happened the weekend of Aug. 24, but the bulk of the current troops' first outdoors adventures will come during September.

"Our campout," says Marshall, "for Troop 1 and Troop 5, Dallas and North Fort Worth, we're are going to go out Sept. 6 and 8. We're going to have a couple priests and deacon; we'll have Mass, rosary both nights, Angelus prayer. It'll be great; it'll be so much fun."

Along with emphasizing skills and faith, Marshall sees his group as one answer to a larger crisis.

"I think it touches on two needs," he says, "that Catholics are experiencing—scratch Catholics—everybody is experiencing, and that is a crisis of masculinity and manhood in the West. What does it mean to be a man?

"For about 40 years, we've talked about women's rights and what it means to be a woman, but I think young boys and men have been forgotten. Television shows tend to depict the father or men as either savages who are angry and brutal, or as domesticated wusses."

It also doesn't help that a lot of the public role models—whether athletes, entertainers, or politicians—frequently fall well short of what most parents would hope for their sons.

"So," says Marshall, "the Scouts of St. George is seeking to answer that question and provide leadership and ideas for grandfathers and fathers and uncles, and their sons and grandsons, to reconnect and do that in a context of the Faith, of traditional family values and virtue."

While Marshall doesn't anticipate being able to set up a sister organization for young girls until the SSG is well-established, perhaps in a year or so, he believes that improving young men also improves the environment for young women.

"You want to see your son flourish and develop and grow," he says. "Maybe you don't have sons; you have daughters, but they're going to marry one of these guys one of these days.

"I think all of us still want a man who can provide and be chivalrous and be respectful and honor and stay with his wife for 50, 60, 70 years and not run off, and raise good children, good citizens. What we're doing is not just something religious, it's also for society as a whole."

Marshall envisions camping and outdoor events as the heart of the SSG, with monthly camp-outs as long as weather permits. There are Junior Scouts for first through fifth graders; and the Scouts of St. George for junior- and high-schoolers.

Troops began registering on July 1 (click here for the directory of troops as of July 16), and the organization is still in the process of formalizing the "Saint George Field Manual" but has made progress on uniform design, start-up details, and general guidelines.

Unlike On My Honor, which is Christian in philosophy but open to all, the Scouts of St. George is only open to Catholic boys, whether both their parents are Catholics (or Christians) or not, with or without a father in the home. The adult leaders must also be Catholic, have a letter of approval from a priest in good standing, and complete their diocesan "safe environment" training.

One of the chief concerns Marshall has been dealing with is the concept of the SSG as being exclusive to one faith.

"That's been the most controversial," he says, "but I've stood by my guns on this. We are a Catholic organization; we do hold to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, so everything they teach, we hold. And the membership is Catholic. Of course, we realize that every boy's father is not Catholic, but those fathers are welcome to join us and be part of what we're doing.

"But the leadership and the identity is Catholic, and the reason for that is because we don't want to impose our beliefs and standards on those who don't agree with us... It would be a disservice to (a non-Catholic boy) for him to have to act like a Catholic just to be with us.

"So we're very upfront with who we are and what we do. That brings us a certain amount of authenticity that people can respect on both sides."

Of course, once the SSG is out in public, holding events and camp-outs, there's always the likelihood of protesters being on hand. Marshall isn't concerned with that right now.

"You know," he says, "if people protested, I would just say, 'Why don't you come down, sit over here, and have a roasted marshmallow with me and enjoy it?' I'm not interested in that. If people protest, I'd just be friendly with them."

I was in the scouts about 6 to 7 years ago...When I was in it, our troop met in a Methodist Church. I assume it's 501c3, but never-the-less it did take place in a church...From what I see now it's not the same as when I was in it. I think all of the troops met in Churches. I don't think they should be meeting in 501c3 but at least they didn't teach secularism, which I see now.

I think, I could be wrong here, but I think we even did a biblical lesson. No-one minded it. Again living in a conservative town does allow such things to happen.

ChristianChurchianity-based scouting group launches after Boy Scouts allow gay youth

Families looking for an alternative to the Boy Scouts of America after the group voted to drop its ban on gay youth earlier this year descended on Nashville, Tenn., this weekend to help launch a Christian-based scouting organization.

More than 1,200 former Scout officials, parents and youth from 44 states were attending the two-day national leadership convention where the group unveiled its name – Trail Life USA – and logo, officials with the group said. One of the founders John Stemberger, a former Eagle Scout and father of two scouts, created OnMyHonor.Net, a coalition of disgruntled BSA members who left the organization after the controversial vote in May.

“Most of us are coming from a highly-structured environment that has 103 years of culture and language and program and symbols … and we are starting from scratch,” Stemberger said late Friday as he asked for patience as the group began “a program that we believe will be stronger, safer and more principled in every way.”

Whether the faith-based group gains popularity in the coming months could signal how successful the Boy Scouts of America will be at keeping members when the new policy takes effect on Jan. 1, 2014. BSA members were deeply divided over the decision to allow gay teens, with many vowing to quit the program.

“I do feel strongly enough about the policy that I don’t want my kids there” in the Boy Scouts, said Jonathan Pickens, a California firefighter and father of three boys who opposed lifting the ban on gay Scouts. An Eagle Scout who has 22 years in the BSA with the troop that his dad founded, he would rather “take a little bit of a blind leap of faith and try to make this work.”

Pickens was in Nashville joining other families and former Boy Scout leaders from across the country to discuss topics such as rank advancement, uniforms and charter partners; former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will address the meeting.

“I want to have a prominent faith component that will be weaved in every fiber of the program,” said Stemberger, an Orlando attorney. “But at the same time, we are not going to become religious and churchy. This is not another church program. This is going to be a masculine outdoor program to raise young men.”

Boys, ages 5-17, may come from every religious background, but adult leaders in the program will adhere to a standard statement of Christian faith and values. The membership policy will focus on sexual purity rather than orientation. Gay youth and adults can participate, but they cannot “flaunt” their sexuality, ??? Stemberger said in July.

The issue of whether to allow gay youth and adults in the BSA roiled the program for years. A campaign to change the membership policy gained momentum last year after a lesbian was ousted as den mother of her pack and a gay teen was denied the Eagle rank.

Some 70 percent of Boy Scout units are sponsored by churches, many of whom balked at having gays in the program. But as the vote neared on allowing gay youth, the largest church charter partner – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints – said it would stay with the organization.

Since the ballot, some churches have reportedly ended their partnership with the Boy Scouts in communities in Florida, North Carolina and Indiana. But a BSA spokesman said Thursday that more than 99 percent of its 116,000 chartered partners were sticking with the program while its national office continued to meet with the sponsors on the issue.

“And in the very rare instance that a chartered organization has chosen not to continue with the Scouting program, other organizations have stepped up to charter those units and provide uninterrupted service to the youth in their communities,” spokesman Deron Smith said in an email.

Zach Wahls, founder of Scouts for Equality, a group that campaigns for inclusion of gays and lesbians in the Boy Scouts, said he was sad to see families leave the BSA since his group believes that “Scouting is for all young men.” He also questioned if the Christian group would allow gay teens and men, saying he felt it was a "rhetorical ploy," particularly since the Boy Scouts was maintaining a longstanding policy against any discussions of sexuality within the organization.

"You still cannot discuss sexuality within the BSA. That hasn't changed and that will not change, and so, it's really a distinction without a difference that they're trying to make here," he said.

Wahls and other gay rights advocates, such as GLAAD, have accused Stemberger of being anti-gay, pointing to his work as president of the Florida Family Policy Council, which promotes controversial gay conversion therapy on its website and which helped with the campaign to pass a law banning same-sex marriage in Florida.

“I want to be clear: We are not an anti-BSA organization,” Stemberger said late Friday. “In fact, we are not an anti-anything or anyone organization.”

For those who have already made the decision to leave the Boy Scouts, they are looking ahead to the Nashville convention and beyond.

Jeff Rayno, 51, a field researcher from Pooler, Ga., said he’d like to lead a troop in the new organization. His son Daniel, 14, is a Boy Scout, and Rayno, who believes that homosexuality is a sin, didn’t want him to be exposed to gays or discussion about sexuality through the program.

“I’m very excited that we can be starting a new thing that’s historical in nature that will be talked about years from now as being a cultural shift,” he said. “People are drawing somewhat of a line in the sand, saying that we have something that we believe in, we have a right to associate with people that think the same way that we do.”

For Alan Scheer, a Scoutmaster from Ochelata, Okla., the adjustment has been exciting but tough. His Troop 20 has stopped wearing their uniforms.

“I’ve cried a river since this started. I wanted to be buried in my Scout uniform. I couldn’t have imagined anything that would ever make me want to take it off again,” said Scheer, 50, an industrial mechanic.

He’ll bring to Nashville a photo album of the equipment that his troop has made from wood using old Boy Scouts’ manuals, like a backpack frame. He wants to show those people starting troops in Trail Life USA how they can save money on buying equipment that they would have gotten in the BSA.

“We’re just going to have to grow it ourselves,” he said. “Starting a troop can be expensive. Being able to connect with the Scouts of the old days and use your hands and make your own gear is a nice way to connect with a past that we are going to share.”

That past is strong for Pickens, who had always dreamed of becoming Scoutmaster of the troop his dad, now deceased, started in 1991. His religious belief that homosexuality is a sin, and his concern that his boys could be exposed to gays in the Boy Scouts, led him to leave the program.

Days after he returns from Nashville, he will introduce the new organization to four BSA troops he hopes to bring with him.

“It’s been kind of a bittersweet, big, big, big, change for our family,” he said. “I may have to take on the big job of starting a troop from scratch. Whatever it will be, I am committed to it.”

A masculine outdoor program to raise young men, from a "Christian" organization? Uhm...scripture says otherwise...

Titus 2:6  Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.
Tit 2:7  In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,
Tit 2:8  Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

1John 2:12  I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.
1Jn 2:13  I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.

Christian Alternative to Boy Scouts Unveiled at National Convention

A new youth character program established to serve as an alternative to the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) was unveiled on Friday during its first national conference in Tennessee.

Over 1,200 former Scoutmasters, Eagle Scouts, former BSA professionals, church leaders and supportive parents from 44 states across the country attended the event, entitled “Honoring the Legacy…Raising the Standard.” Speakers included Arkansas Governor and talk show host Mike Huckabee and Michael Farris, the president of Patrick Henry College and the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA).

According to reports, the unveiling of Trail Life USA was met with much applause and excitement from attendees as executives spoke about the new organization and presented its name and visual branding for the first time. Trail Life USA is stated to be “an outdoor scouting-like program designed for boys ages 5-17, which will focus on adventure, character and leadership.”

“The new group will have a strong inclusion policy for youth; all boys are welcome to the program regardless of religion, race, national origin or socio-economic status,” the organization explained in a news release announcing the convention. “However, adult leaders in the program will be Christian and must sign a statement of faith and submit to background checks.”

According to the Trail Life USA website, members will be required to live a life of moral purity as outlined in the Scriptures.

“The basis for the program’s ethical and moral standards are found in the Bible. In terms of sexual identification and behavior, we affirm that any sexual activity outside the context of the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman is sinful before God and therefore inconsistent with the values and principles of the program,” it explains. “Within these limits, we grant membership to adults and youth who do not engage in or promote sexual immorality of any kind, or engage in behavior that would become a distraction to the mission of the program.”

“Our vision will be to become the premier national character development organization for young men which produces Godly and responsible husbands, fathers, and citizens,” said chairman John Stemberger, a former Eagle Scout and Scoutmaster. “Parents are going love the new outdoor adventure program and we are very excited to be part of this next chapter in the history of scouting in America.”

As previously reported, Stemberger had announced earlier this year that he was planning to formulate a Christian alternative to the scouts following the organization’s vote to allow openly homosexual boys serve as members. In May, over 60 percent of voting members cast their ballot in favor of altering BSA’s policy, which barred “open or avowed homosexuals or who engage in behavior that would become a distraction to the mission of the BSA.”

However, the group said that members would still be prohibited from engaging in sexual activity of any kind while serving in the Scouts.

“The resolution also reinforces that scouting is a youth program, and any sexual conduct, whether heterosexual or homosexual, by youth of scouting age is contrary to the virtues of scouting,” officials wrote in a statement.

Pentagon Official Who Pushed for Repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ Named President of Boy Scouts

A former Pentagon official who pushed for the repeal of the military’s ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy has been named the next president of the Boy Scouts of America.

Robert Gates served as the Secretary of Defense under then-President George W. Bush beginning in 2006 and stayed on board for part of Barack Obama’s first term. Prior to his appointment, he served 26 years in the CIA–his latter years as Director of Central Intelligence.

During his tenure as Secretary of Defense, Gates advocated for the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell–which barred open homosexuality in the military–and expressed his agreement with Obama’s push to do away with the law.

“I fully support the president’s decision,” he told reporters in 2010. “The question before us is not whether the military prepares to make this change, but how we … best prepare for it. We have received our orders from the commander in chief and we are moving out accordingly.”

He testified about the matter before a Senate panel in February of that same year, and the Department of Defense issued a news release that both he and Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, would express their support for the repeal.

“A strong majority of [soldiers] who answered [a government] survey—more than two thirds—do not object to gays and lesbians serving openly in uniform,” Gates said in the release. “The findings suggest that for large segments of the military—with the exception of some combat specialties—the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, though potentially disruptive in the short term, would not be the wrenching, traumatic change that many have feared and predicted.”

On Wednesday, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) announced the appointment of Gates as the organization’s next president. Gates, an Eagle Scout, will still need to be approved by the national council.

“There is no finer program for preparing American boys for citizenship and leadership than the Boy Scouts of America,” he remarked in a written statement. “As an Eagle Scout, I know firsthand how impactful this program can be, and I believe its mission is more important today than ever before.”

“I am honored to take on this role and look forward to working on behalf of the millions of youth and adult members who make Scouting what it is today—an organization providing life-changing opportunities to today’s youth,” Gates continued.

BSA Chief Wayne Brock likewise released comments surrounding Gates’ appointment.

“Our country and its young people need Scouting, and Boy Scouts of America is honored to have Dr. Gates serve on our National Executive Board as the national president-elect,” he said. “I believe Dr. Gates’ vision and passion for Scouting will continue to allow the BSA to focus on delivering the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training to the young people of this nation.”

As previously reported, this past May, BSA voted to alter its 22-year-old policy, which bans “open or avowed homosexuals or who engage in behavior that would become a distraction to the mission of the BSA.” A number of churches nationwide have discontinued their association with BSA because of the decision.

“It is extremely sad,” stated Pastor Ernest Easley of Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia. “I’d never dreamed that I’d be standing in front of a group preaching on Sunday, encouraging parents to pull kids out of Boy Scouts of America.”

“If we’re a church that affirms God’s word as the inerrant word of God that we’re going to live by, that we’re going to raise our families by, that we’re going to do church by, then it may be sad, but it’s a simple decision,” he continued. “We are not going to put our arms around organizations that openly oppose the moral guidelines taught in God’s word.”

Gates, if ultimately approved, will begin serving in May 2014. He currently serves as chancellor of College of William and Mary in Virginia.

Lockheed halts Boy Scouts donations over gay rights

Lockheed Martin Corp, the top U.S. defense contractor, has halted donations to the Boy Scouts of America because of the group's policies on religion and to exclude some gays from its ranks, it said on Thursday.

Lockheed's decision makes it the latest corporate sponsor to pull its donations from the Scouts, which voted to end a ban on gay scouts effective at the start of 2014, but has left in place a prohibition on gays serving as adult Scout leaders.

"While we applaud the mission of the Boy Scouts and the good things they do in our communities, their policies that discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation and religious affiliation conflict with Lockheed Martin policies," spokesman Gordon Johndroe said in a statement.

The Boy Scouts believe that no member can grow into the best kind of citizen without recognizing an obligation to God, the group says in its charter.

Lockheed did not disclose the amount of money it regularly donated to the Scouts.

Scouts spokesman Deron Smith said the organization that has had several million members over its more than century-long history, respected Lockheed's right to express its own opinion.

"Scouting believes that good people can personally disagree on this topic and still work together to accomplish the common good," Smith said in an emailed statement.

The ban on gays in leadership also has cost the Boy Scouts other corporate sponsors.

Illinois-based Caterpillar Inc suspended its $25,000-a-year support for a local Illinois council in 2013, saying it could not support an organization that continued to discriminate against homosexuals.

Intel Corp, one of the largest corporate sponsors of the Boy Scouts, said in September 2012 that it would stop supporting troops that continue to ban gay scouts. Intel donated about $700,000 in 2009, according to the American Independent magazine.

The Merck Foundation also stopped giving to the national Boy Scouts organization in recent years.

Former U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates, the next Boy Scouts president, will face the task of smoothing out the divisions within the organization and restoring the tarnished public image.

As defense secretary, Gates supported President Barack Obama's withdrawal of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy that prevented gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military.

While a Boy Scout, Gates achieved the highest honor of Eagle Scout. He is due to begin his two-year term in May 2014.

‘It’s Not a Hate Thing’: Boy Scouts Face Monumental Loss After Choice to Allow Openly-Gay Members

The Boy Scouts of America’s decision to allow openly-gay young men to participate in the organization is already spawning some major membership problems.

While those in support of the new-found policy are frustrated that gay leaders are still not permitted to take part, others who oppose the amendment believe that the group is abandoning its Christian heritage. Among the denominations that may cut off support for the Scouts is the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC).

Church leaders, according to CNN, are planning to urge the religious order’s 45,000 congregations and 16 million members to officially cut ties with the Boy Scouts. Considering that 4,000 units are currently sponsored by the SBC, this would be a monumental loss for the organization — one that would impact 100,000 young men who participate through this denomination.

This month, the SBC plans to vote on a non-binding resolution at a convention in Houston. The effort will take place on June 11 or 12. And the provision, according to insiders, has a good chance of passing.

“There’s a 100% chance that there will be a resolution about disaffiliation at the convention and a 100% chance that 99% of people will vote for it,” Richard Land, head of the Southern Baptists’ Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, told CNN. “Southern Baptists are going to be leaving the Boy Scouts en masse.”

The SBC has emphasized that even if a resolution is voted upon, that it is up to local affiliates to make decisions about scouting. That said, if Land is correct, the mere non-binding proclamation would have a major impact on the SBC and the Boy Scouts — and it would surely change the relationship between the two parties.

Pastor Tim Reed of First Baptist Church is among those who believe the Scouts should have never changed their rules.

.

“God’s word explicitly says homosexuality is a choice, a sin,” Reed, who decided to cut his church’s ties with the Scouts, told a CNN affiliate. “It’s not a hate thing here. It’s a moral stance we must take as a Southern Baptist church.”

Watch him discuss the matter, below:
 http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/06/03/its-not-a-hate-thing-boy-scouts-face-monumental-loss-after-choice-to-allow-openly-gay-members/

Last week, TheBlaze explored the impact of the Boy Scouts’ decision to allow openly-gay youths. While many view it as a inclusive step, others, like the SBC, fear that it runs counter to the values and morals embedded in the Christian faith. It is likely that many groups will flock to alternative organizations or start their own organiations similar to the Scouts — but with a more faith-based message.

I'm surprised Churchianity and the SBC even supported the Boy Scouts in the first place - which has been a secular/Freemasonic organization from the get-go.

In the south, the Baptist community is infested with Masons, Elks, you name it. And as we know, 501c3 groups are obligated to promote government-backed policies, so it's no surprise they support various government minion training programs.

Fmr. spokeswoman for pro-abortion foundation now works for…the Girl Scouts

January 10, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The woman who now handles the Girl Scouts' communications used to have another employer: an abortion lobby think tank founded by Gloria Steinem.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Kelly Parisi has served as vice president of communications at the Girl Scouts of the USA since last July. But her last job, before her two-month gap in employment, was as vice president of marketing and communications for the Ms. Foundation for Women. The foundation – which Steinem founded in 1973 – lists “Reproductive Rights and Health” (which includes support for taxpayer-funded abortion) first on its list of issues.

Parisi, who has a minor in women's studies, said she was thrilled to work at the foundation, because she was "able to channel my outrage at women's inequality and gender injustice into action every day."

“The last two years have generated record numbers of restrictions on reproductive rights across the country,” she said. “Women are constantly under attack.”

At the Ms. Foundation, Parisi served on a five-member “executive team” that guided policy. A report she contributed to last year called for the “repeal [of] state and federal legislative barriers to abortion access,” granting military women access to abortion, implementing the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare), expanding “family planning” funding, and teaching “comprehensive” sex education in the public schools.

It blasted “so-called 'conscience clauses' that allow providers and companies to cite religious reasons for refusing to provide contraception, abortion and sterilization.”

Parisi's report – which revealed the feminist group was funded in part by George Soros' Open Society Foundation and the Tides Foundation – criticized the Hyde Amendment, abstinence-based sex education classes, and crisis pregnancy centers that allegedly “mislead or harass women with false information about abortion.”

Parisi had an earlier stint as director of communications at the Ms. Foundation for four years, from August 1998 to January 2003. In between, she worked at the at the Children's Health Fund, founded by liberal songwriter Paul Simon, an organization that also has ties to abortion advocacy.

Parisi had only been at her new post with the Girl Scouts of the USA for a few months when she ignited controversy over the Scouts seeming to honor her former employer. Just before Christmas, the Scouts retweeted a Huffington Post story that named Wendy Davis and Gloria Steinem among the “Incredible Ladies Who Should Be Women of the Year for 2013.”

Parisi defended the tweet, telling CNSNews.com, “Our Twitter bio states that a retweet does not equal an endorsement. Our sharing a link was not to endorse any of the women featured, but to highlight the source's acknowledgment of women who made a mark in 2013.”

“As the world’s premiere leadership organization for girls, we are charged with developing girls of courage, confidence and character,” she said. “We hope that all girls have the courage to make the their voices heard and welcome respectful discourse about what qualities a woman of the year should have.”

Parisi's own Twitter account, under the handle @bossladykp, is locked and can be read only with her permission.

However, the Scouts' ties to Planned Parenthood and enthusiasm for Steinem precede Parisi's tenure. A 2012 report on “healthy media” on the Girl Scouts' website promotes the book and website My Little Red Book, “a collection of short narratives written by women about their first period.” The reviewers wrote “we like it” because it features “[s ]tories from women of different ages and backgrounds, including renowned authors and activists such as Gloria Steinem” and pro-abortion children's book author Judy Blume. (In 2009, Blume wrote a fundraising e-mail asking donors to send money to Planned Parenthood in honor of Mother's Day.)

Girl Scout CEO Kathy Clonginer told the Today Show in 2004 that the organization partners “with Planned Parenthood organizations across the country to bring information-based sex education programs to girls.” In 2012, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi describes the Girl Scouts' relationship with Planned Parenthood as “very valuable."

The group's advocacy for LGBT causes has also undermined its wholesome image for many. In 2011, the group announced it would admit a seven-year-old biological boy as a Girl Scout, because he considers himself a transgender “girl.” In July, more than 90 Girl Scouts marched in San Francisco's Gay Pride Parade for the first time ever.

The online news service Breitbart has noted the ravaging effects social liberalism has had on the organization. Girl Scout councils have reduced from 312 to 112, and the group has lost nearly one-third of its funding from 2007-2011. During that time, contributions dipped by a massive $44 million.

Ex-scoutmaster pleads guilty to 36 felony sex crimes
http://www.roanoke.com/news/article_48e1524e-83e0-11e3-99bd-001a4bcf6878.html
1/22/14

An ex-scoutmaster who admitted to molesting his son’s teenage friends and fellow troop members for years at his Keswick home pleaded guilty to 36 felony sex crimes Wednesday in Albemarle County Circuit Court.

David Brian Watkins, now 50, entered into an agreement with prosecutors that shields him from additional local or federal charges and calls for an active term of 30 years and five months in prison.

The agreement “provides closure for … very promising young men who can now get on with their lives,” Assistant Albemarle Commonwealth’s Attorney Darby Lowe said after the hearing. “The young men would have had to come through and testify about very, very difficult and horrendous offenses against them.”

Watkins faced more than 70 charges after a wave of indictments handed down in August, nearly a year after the first victim walked into the county police department to report years of abuse at the hands of his former troop leader. Watkins was arrested a week later, on Nov. 28, 2012.

The victims and their family members remained stoic on Wednesday as Watkins murmured “guilty” 36 times, after the clerk read aloud each indictment for carnal knowledge of a child between the ages of 13 and 15.

Watkins’ lawyer said that none of the acts against the three children, now men, whom Watkins admitted to abusing between 2006 and 2009, were violent.

“There are laws that restrict age for a reason, but I want to reiterate that this was not an actual force case
,” Andre Hakes said.

Prosecutors said Watkins used his command of Keswick Troop 1028 to manipulate his son’s friends, learning their interests and gaining their trust at group sleepovers. Lowe said what began as inappropriate behavior, such as skinny dipping, escalated into groping and other sex acts.

“He was in a position of trust with those young men,” she said.

Watkins stopped serving as a scoutmaster in 2008 but remained active in the Boy Scouts of America until summer 2012, when the organization severed ties with him, Stonewall Jackson Area Council spokesman Michael Hesbach said in 2012.

Charlottesville police said they investigated allegations of inappropriate activity outside of scouting that summer but filed no charges.

Watkins’ interaction with children was not limited to scouting, according to court records. He coached his son’s T-ball and Little League teams, Watkins testified in 2006, as part of divorce proceedings with his ex-wife, Annette Morgan.

Morgan raised questions about the attention he was paying to his scouts as the abuse was occurring, according to the couple’s divorce records.

“Maybe he has found someone at [troop 1028] that he likes or loves,” she wrote in a journal saved to a family computer.

By “someone,” Morgan meant “lots of little boys,” she later told the court.

An attorney grilled Watkins about the allegations during divorce proceedings in 2006: “Are you aware of these claims that you are a ****, a child molester, a bisexual, a homosexual, a pervert of the worst kind?”

“Yes, I am,” Watkins replied
.

“Have you ever done anything inappropriate with … [a] child?” he asked.

“No sir, I have not,” Watkins said.

Watkins, during a four-hour interview with Albemarle police Detective Greg Anastopoulos, later admitted to sexual contact with three children, Lowe said.

Hakes told Judge Cheryl Higgins she had several hours’ worth of evidence to present on Watkins’ behalf during sentencing. Higgins blocked off a full day on April 25 for sentencing. Watkins faces a maximum sentence of 360 years in prison and $90,000 in fines on the 36 charges. Lowe withdrew the remaining indictments.

The 30-year, five-month prison term recommended in Watkins’ plea agreement is a mid-point recommendation under Virginia’s sentencing guidelines. Higgins is not required to follow the guidelines.

Boy Scouts revoke Seattle church's charter over gay scout leader

The Boy Scouts of America has severed ties with a Seattle church that has insisted on allowing a gay man to remain as a troop leader, the youth organization said on Monday.

It is likely the first time the national organization has severed ties with a scout troop since a landmark vote last year allowed gay scouts but kept a ban on gay adult leaders.

The decision to revoke the Rainier Beach United Methodist Church's charter comes as the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) faces pressure from social conservatives over the rule change, as well as from gay rights groups who say it did not go far enough.

"Because the church no longer agrees to the terms of the BSA chartered organization agreement, which includes following BSA policies, it is no longer authorized to offer the Scouting program," said Boy Scouts spokesman Deron Smith in a statement. "We are saddened by this development."

The BSA last month revoked the membership of Geoffrey McGrath, a gay scout leader of Troop 98 in Seattle, after he openly stated his sexual orientation in a news interview that discussed his group. The recently formed troop was sponsored by the Rainier Beach church.

The revoked charter prevents the group from the neighborhood in south Seattle from using the BSA's uniforms and logos.

The church plans to offer a replacement program, said McGrath, who became an Eagle Scout in the 1980s.

"Our primary task is to make sure that the youth program at the church continues without missing a beat," McGrath told Reuters. "We'll have to make minor adjustments to avoid copyright infringement."

Reverend Monica Corsaro of the church told NBC News that the Boy Scouts' action conflicts with her congregation's values of non-discrimination.

"Breaking us up like this seems to go against everything the Boy Scouts is about," Corsaro told NBC.

The Boy Scouts said they have identified a new charter organization for the church-affiliated troop.

Following its decision to admit gay youth, the BSA has seen religious groups and leaders sever ties and a conservative group say it would form a rival alternative. It has also faced accusations of failing to protect children from sexual abuse by adult volunteers.

The BSA did not immediately say whether it had revoked other charters.

Looks like these "churches" and the BSA are really clashing amongst each other now - either these "churches" don't agree with some of the recent BSA pro-sodomite policies, and likewise with the BSA to these "churches".

Boy Scouts' leader says ban on gay adults not sustainable

yah, thats a good idea. Just allow the sodomites to take young boys on camping trips. Sick, better get your mill stone fitted

he national president of the Boy Scouts, Robert Gates, says the organization's longstanding ban on participation by openly gay adults is no longer sustainable and is urging change in order to avert potentially destructive legal battles.

In a speech Thursday in Atlanta to the Scouts' national annual meeting, Gates referred to recent moves by Scout councils in New York City and elsewhere to defy the ban.

"The status quo in our movement's membership standards cannot be sustained," said Gates, a former U.S. secretary of defense.

Gates said no change in the policy would be made at the national meeting. But he raised the possibility of revising the policy at some point soon so that local Scout organizations could decide on their own whether to allow gays as leaders.

Boy Scouts executive committee OKs ending ban on gay leaders
http://news.yahoo.com/boy-scouts-executive-committee-oks-ending-ban-gay-194130221.html#
7/13/15

NEW YORK (AP) — The executive committee of the Boy Scouts of America has unanimously approved a resolution that would end the organization's blanket ban on gay adult leaders and let individual Scout units set their own policy on the long-divisive issue. Units sponsored by churches opposed to the change could maintain the ban if they choose.

In a statement Monday, the BSA said the resolution was approved by the 17-member executive committee on Friday, and would become official policy immediately if ratified by the organization's 80-member National Executive Board at a meeting on July 27.

The committee action follows an emphatic speech in May by the organization's president, former Defense Secretary Robert Gates, declaring that the long-standing ban on participation by openly gay adults was no longer sustainable. He and other BSA leaders said the ban was likely to be the target of lawsuits that the Scouts were apt to lose.

In 2013, after bitter internal debate, the BSA decided to allow openly gay youth as scouts, but not gay adults as leaders.

Under the new resolution, local scout units would be able to select adult leaders without regard to sexual orientation — a stance that several scout councils have already adopted in defiance of the official national policy.

"This change allows Scouting's members and parents to select local units, chartered to organizations with similar beliefs, that best meet the needs of their families," the BSA statement said. "This change would also respect the right of religious chartered organizations to continue to choose adult leaders whose beliefs are consistent with their own."

Several denominations that sponsor large numbers of Scout units — including the Roman Catholic Church, the Mormon church and the Southern Baptist Convention — have been apprehensive about ending the ban on gay adults.

Southern Evangelical Seminary President Richard Land, who formerly led the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, said he was glad the policy allowed an exemption for religiously sponsored groups, but it didn't resolve his main concern: That neither boys or girls in scouting should have leaders who are sexually attracted to their gender, whether the leader is gay or straight.

"If you put them in the compromising situations that you are sometimes in with Scout leaders and Scouts, in terms of camping and other situations, it could lead to great tragedy for children," Land said. "It's best to avoid the temptation."

In a memo sent Monday to local Scout officials nationwide, the BSA's top leaders said they had consulted their religious partners before acting on the resolution, and they pledged to defend the right of any church-sponsored units to continue excluding gay adults from leadership posts.

The BSA "rejects any interference with or condemnation of the diverse beliefs of chartering organizations on matters of marriage, family, and sexuality," the memo said.

The Mormon church, in a statement, indicated that this stance was crucial to its continued role as a leading sponsor of Boy Scout units.

"As a chartering organization, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has always had the right to select Scout leaders who adhere to moral and religious principles that are consistent with our doctrines and beliefs," the church said. "Any resolution adopted by the Boy Scouts of America regarding leadership in Scouting must continue to affirm that right."

The BSA's deference to the religious organizations was criticized by Chad Griffin, president of the Human Rights Campaign, a national LGBT-rights group.

"Half measures are unacceptable and discriminatory exemptions have no place in the Boy Scouts," Griffin said in a statement. "It's long overdue that BSA leaders demonstrate true leadership and embrace a full national policy of inclusion."

Among other points in the BSA's memo:

—Prospective employees of the national organization could no longer be denied a staff position on the basis of sexual orientation.

—Gay leaders who were previously removed from Scouting because of the ban would have the opportunity to reapply for volunteer positions.

—There would be no change in the long-standing requirement that youth and adult Scout members profess a "duty to God."

Gates, who became the BSA's president in May 2014, said at the time that he personally would have favored ending the ban on gay adults, but he opposed any further debate after the Scouts' policymaking body upheld the ban. In May, however, he said at the BSA's annual national meeting that recent events "have confronted us with urgent challenges I did not foresee and which we cannot ignore."

He cited a defiant announcement by the BSA's New York City chapter in early April that it had hired Pascal Tessier, the nation's first openly gay Eagle Scout, as a summer camp leader. Gates also cited broader developments related to gay rights, and warned that rigidly maintaining the ban "will be the end of us as a national movement."

The Scouts' resolution was hailed by Zach Wahls, an Eagle Scout raised by two lesbian moms who now heads the advocacy group Scouts for Equality.

"While this policy change is not perfect — BSA's religious chartering partners will be allowed to continue to discriminate against gay adults — it is difficult to overstate the importance of today's announcement," Wahls said.

For a variety of reasons, the Boy Scouts — like several other major youth organizations — have experienced a membership decline in recent decades. Current membership, according to the BSA, is about 2.4 million boys and about 1 million adults.

107-Year-Old Girl's Group Now Welcomes Transgender Leaders

Men can join the Girl Guides as leaders for the first time in its 107-year history—if they feel they have been born in the "wrong" body.

New regulations say it would be unlawful to tell parents if their daughter is being looked after by a man identifying as a woman on overnight excursions.

The new Equality and Diversity Policy, which was sent to all leaders last week, has been slammed by parents and Members of Parliament.

'Shocking'

Philip Hollobone, MP, said: "Sadly, the result will be fewer girls joining the Girl Guides. There will be parents who won't let their daughters join because of this change."

Amanda Gracey, whose daughter recently joined Rainbows—a Girlguiding group for girls aged from 5 to 7—was horrified.

She said: "It's shocking that if there is a man who believes he is a woman leading the group, it is forbidden that parents should be informed, even on residential trips."

Residential trips

In 2015, Girlguiding UK published gender guidelines which allowed boys between the ages of 5 and 14 to join as members.

It stated: "If any young person identifies as female, then they are able to join".

It also advised that it was not "best practice" to tell parents if their daughter will share toilets or sleeping areas with boys who believe they are girls.

Commenting on the 2015 guidelines, Gracey added: "Every piece of safeguarding advice says you should provide separate sleeping and changing facilities for children of opposite sexes under the age of 18."

Boy Scouts will allow transgender children into programs
1/30/17

DALLAS (AP) — The Boy Scouts of America announced Monday that it will allow transgender children who identify as boys to enroll in its boys only programs.

The organization announced it had made the decision to begin basing enrollment in its boys-only programs on the gender a child or parent lists on the application to become a scout. The organization had previously held a policy that relied on the gender listed on a child's birth certificate for those programs.

Rebecca Rausch, a spokeswoman for the organization, emailed a statement Monday. She said the organization's leadership had considered a recent case in Secaucus, New Jersey, where an 8-year-old transgender child had been asked to leave his Scout troop after parents and leaders found out he is transgender, but the change was made because of the larger conversation about gender identity going on around the country.

"For more than 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America, along with schools, youth sports and other youth organizations, have ultimately deferred to the information on an individual's birth certificate to determine eligibility for our single-gender programs," the statement said. "However, that approach is no longer sufficient as communities and state laws are interpreting gender identity differently, and these laws vary widely from state to state."

Rausch said the enrollment decision goes into effect immediately.

"Our organization's local councils will help find units that can provide for the best interest of the child," the statement said.

Boy Scouts of America leaders lifted a blanket ban on gay troop leaders and employees in July 2015.

Archbishop Recommends Severing Ties with Girl Scouts Because They are Linked to Planned Parenthood

A Catholic archbishop is recommending that parishes in his diocese begin to sever ties with the Girl Scouts due to the group’s association with Planned Parenthood.

LifeNews.com reports that Archbishop Joseph Naumann of the Diocese of Kansas City instructed his parishes “to begin the process of transitioning away from the hosting of parish Girl Scout troops and toward the chartering of American Heritage Girls troops.”

Archbishop Naumann went on to say that the American Heritage Girls are “a program based on Christian values, we believe is a much better fit for our parishes. I encourage you to read more about the American Heritage Girl program by going to its website, americanheritagegirls.org.”

Naumann laid out the reasons why the parishes should disassociate with the Girls Scouts, including the fact that the Girls Scouts have become increasingly secular and that they hold up as role models Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger, as well as Betsy Friedan and Gloria Steinem.

The Girls Scouts organization also “contributes more than a million dollars each year to the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGS), an organization tied to International Planned Parenthood …” noted Naumann.

“To follow Jesus and his Gospel will often require us to be counter-cultural,” he continued. With the promotion by Girl Scouts USA (GSUSA) of programs and materials reflective of many of the troubling trends in our secular culture, they are no longer a compatible partner in helping us form young women with the virtues and values of the Gospel.”

Boy Scouts of America to allow girls to join, earn Eagle Scout rank

(Reuters) - In a historic shift, the Boy Scouts of America will let girls enroll in Cub Scouts starting next year and allow them to eventually earn the highest rank of Eagle Scout, the organization said on Wednesday.

The unanimous decision by the 100-year-old group’s board of directors came after years of requests from families and girls, it said, though the announcement prompted a largely negative reaction on social media.

“We believe it is critical to evolve how our programs meet the needs of families interested in positive and lifelong experiences for their children,” Boy Scouts Chief Executive Michael Surbaugh said in a statement.

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has lost about a third of its members since 2000, which now stands at 2.3 million. BSA insisted that allowing girls was in response to the needs of families, not related to declining membership.

The Girl Scouts of the USA said girls thrive in a girl-only environment, and that “we are girl experts.”

Starting in 2018, the Boy Scouts will allow girls to join the 7- to 10-year-old Cub Scouts. Small, community-level “dens” will be single-gender. Larger “packs,” which are comprised of dens, will decide whether to include dens of each gender or not, the BSA said.

In a program to be announced next year and projected to start in 2019, girls will follow the same curriculum as the Boy Scouts, which are for ages 11-17.

Surbaugh in a tweet said, “Today, the BSA opens a new chapter in our history w/a unanimous vote to welcome girls to Cub through Eagle Rank.”

After the announcement, the Girl Scouts issued a statement that did not mention the Boy Scouts or its move to include girls.

“Girl Scouts remains committed to and believes strongly in the importance of the all-girl, girl-led and girl-friendly environment that Girl Scouts provides, which creates a necessary safe space for girls to learn and thrive,” the organization said.

In August, a top Girl Scout official accused the Boy Scouts of running a “covert campaign” to recruit girls to increase its declining membership, the Washington Post reported.

The program for girls older than Cub Scouts projected to begin in 2019 will allow them to earn the Eagle Scout rank, the highest achievement in the organization.

On social media, hundreds of people were critical of the news, with many posts echoing the sentiments of Donald Trump Jr., the president’s son.

“Strange, I thought that’s what the Girl Scouts was for???” he said on Twitter.

Sing Oldham, spokesman for the Southern Baptist Convention, said the announcement continued a “reinvention” of the Boy Scouts his group does not support, including the decision in 2013 to allow openly gay members.

In January, the Boy Scouts also opted to allow transgender boys to join.

Girl Scout Cookies Crumble

Girl Scouts USA (GSUSA) has become a politically divisive, pro-abortion organization that has abandoned its mission years ago. GSUSA is the largest member organization of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), which aggressively promotes abortion and promiscuous sex on behalf of its 10 million members. WAGGGS states that “anyone who is a Girl Guide or Girl Scout is automatically a member.” GSUSA pays about 1.5 million dollars annually to WAGGGS.

The WAGGGS delegation for the Commission on the Status of Women advocates the following for Girl Scouts and Girl Guides around the world: “We demand access to comprehensive sexuality information, services and supplies for all young people. We need it today – and today needed to be yesterday.” WAGGGS participated in the 2016 Women Deliver Conference, which focused on “health — in particular maternal, sexual, and reproductive health and rights.” Content for the conference included “Safe Abortion as a Human Right,” “Safe Abortion Saves Women’s Lives,” with keynote speakers Planned Parenthood Federation of America president Cecile Richards and Catholics for Choice founder Frances Kissling.

GSUSA also maintains memberships in other pro-abortion organizations such as the Coalition for Adolescent Girls and works alongside International Planned Parenthood Federation, Marie Stopes International, and numerous organizations that push for unrestricted abortion rights. In fact, all Girl Scout councils and individual troops are encouraged to partner with their local Planned Parenthood. The former GSUSA CEO Kathy Cloninger said, “We partner with many organizations. We have relationships with our church communities, with YWCAs, and with Planned Parenthood organizations across the country, to bring information-based sex education programs to girls.”

In addition, all Girl Scout councils sell GSUSA’s official curriculum series for girl members, which promotes prominent pro-abortion women and organizations, including Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan, the American Civil Liberties Union, the Population Council and many others. A list of speeches by “Eloquent Women” is provided to assist the girls with their public speaking badge. Recommendations include Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger’s speech advocating for a women’s right to birth control, Lady Gaga and Sally Field both advocating for same-sex “marriage.”

GSUSA encouraged and celebrated girls participation in the Women’s March, a vulgar and profanity-laden event that clearly stated “safe, legal, and affordable abortion and birth control for all people” among its core principles. Across the country, local councils involved the Girl Scout brand and the members in partisan and political advocacy. A 2016 Hillary Clinton campaign ad featuring Clinton and uniformed Girl Scouts, filmed at a Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road council shop, was widely shared on her media accounts. Immediately following the presidential election, Girl Scouts of Greater New York partnered in protesting President-elect Donald Trump.

Girl Scout cookie sales fund troops, local councils and GSUSA. A Girl Scout troop keeps an average of just 10 to 20 percent of the money collected from selling cookies. The local council receives an average of 65 to 75 percent of the money collected by all local troops. GSUSA collects a royalty payment based upon its licensed trademark on every box of cookies produced. With approximately 200 million boxes of cookies sold annually, this amounts to millions of dollars of funding for GSUSA every year, much of which goes toward aggressively promoting youth reproductive/abortion and sexual rights to innocent girls.

How does all this fit into the GSUSA mission statement when part of the Girl Scout law is to encourage girls to “make the world a better place?” Ironically, since 1912, millions of young girls in America have taken an oath that states simply:

“On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.”

“The once great Girl Scouts USA took a tragic fall when it became a political advocacy group that promotes abortion and sexual promiscuity to innocent girls,” said Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver. “It’s important that people understand that the profits from cookie sales go toward harming young girls rather that helping them. I encourage people to say, ‘no, thank you’ to Girls Scouts and support alternatives that encourage Christian values such as  American Heritage Girls. This organization has partnered with Trail Life USA, a rapidly expanding alternative to the Boy Scouts,” said Staver.
