It was no different from Easter last year when my dad said that this is a legit holiday b/c Constantine was able to use astrology to come up with this date.

He should love the KJV since it's the only translation that includes Easter, LOL. On a more serious note, we are taught to go against our family members in obedience to God.

Does your doctrine of salvation line up with John 6:44?
4  General Category / Fellowship / Divisions in the church on: March 12, 2011, 01:24:34 am
1 Cor. 1:10 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 11 For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe’s household, that there are contentions among you. 12 Now I say this, that each of you says, “I am of Paul,” or “I am of Apollos,” or “I am of Cephas,” or “I am of Christ.” 13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

14 I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 lest anyone should say that I had baptized in my own name. 16 Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas. Besides, I do not know whether I baptized any other. 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.

We read here that there were divisions at Corinth. The Greek word here for division is schisma where our word schism comes from. The Corinthians were still gathering together as the one true church at Corinth according to Matt. 18:20 but they were divided in their hearts.

What does Paul attribute this divisiveness to?

1 Cor. 3:1 And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. 2 I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; 3 for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? 4 For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not carnal?

He tells them that they are carnal. This is a lesson for us today when we look around at the church in the world. There are divisions galore. I call it Baskin Robbins Christianity. But this isn't the whole story behind the condition we see today. As I said there was still only one church at Corinth but what do we see today? Several churches by different names in every locale. To see what Paul teaches about this we need to turn over to chapter 11:

17 Now in giving these instructions I do not praise you, since you come together not for the better but for the worse. 18 For first of all, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it. 19 For there must also be factions among you, that those who are approved may be recognized among you.

What we see here is the full development of divisions, factions or sects. The Greek word here is heresis the origin of our word heresies. While heresy is commonly used in connection with fundamental error, technically speaking any unscriptural doctrine is heresy. The divisions were the results of their holding errors and factions were the result of their actually going out and setting up a church with the error as a gathering center rather than Christ as we see in Matt. 18:20. That's what we see today all kinds of churches defined according to their own pet version of the truth rather than the person of Christ Himself. The only doctrinal agreement needed to gather to Christ is to be fundamentally sound in our walk clear of moral sin as we see in 1 Cor. 5 and fundamental heresy as we see in Gal. 5 where they were preaching another gospel and first and second John where we see a false Christ being preached. In chapter 1 we even see that some where using the name of Christ as a pretense for their division and that can be done today when error is set up as a gathering center using Christ's name as an official name for the church. Gathering to Christ must be done in spirit in order for it to be a gathering on the ground of the one true church of scripture since we are called to worship God in Spirit and truth(John 4:23-24). Christ must be the true spiritual reason for our gathering and we must check self at the door. Divisions are carnal because they elevate our opinions over Christ. Factions or sects are the gross manifestation of this carnal state.

By now you must be asking yourself, "what do I do, since there are sects everywhere I look." Fortunately for us, the problem actually permeated the church as early as Paul's second epistle to Timothy. Now let's turn to 2 Tim. 2:

20But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

21If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

22Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

What we see here is the church called a "great house" with a mixture of all sorts of vessels- vessels of gold and silver or true believers but also vessels of wood and earth-false professors, vessels to honor-obedient Christians, vessels to dishonor-disobedient Christians. Paul says in order to be a vessel to honor he must purge himself from the vessels to dishonor. This word purge is the same word used in 1 Cor. 5 in connection with putting out the old leaven which is used to symbolize putting out the wicked man. This is the proper order of things in the church, the vessel to dishonor being purged out from among the vessels to honor but here we see a situation so bad that proper order has broken down and so that for a person to remain obedient to God is to purge himself out from among the vessels to dishonor. Remember Paul teaches us that "a little leaven leavens the WHOLE LUMP". In other words when a church fails to act faithfully in accordance with 1 Cor. 5 or Gal. 5 or 2 John 9-11 all its members become leavened or vessels to dishonor. Likewise anyone not walking in separation from them also becomes leavened or vessels to dishonor. The only way we can be a vessel to honor is to purge ourselves from vessels to dishonor. What we have here is godly division as opposed to the carnal divisions that were taking place at Corinth because it is done out of obedience to God rather than self. This sounds like a lot of trouble once you begin to work out all the implications of this matter but look at the reward-he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work. I ask you now, what greater honor can you think of than this in this whole world? Isn't it amazing that God makes provision for such a great honor at a time of such darkness and despair in the church? You say "okay, I have purged myself but what next?" Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

In other words, seek out other purged vessels to fellowship with. I believe prayer is a key to accomplishing this whole matter from start to finish because it requires God's grace to be done right without stumbling. May the God of all grace bless you richly as you read these words.

Yours in Christ,

I'm not sure this proves demonic possession but rather the great evil of paganistic rituals which have Satan in view. When I look at scripture I see that demoniacs are more deranged animals lacking control of their actions rather than deliberate practice of evil rituals as we see here. It's all evil but this is more an example of people who have willfully given themselves over to evil rather than those who have been possessed by evil by no will of their own.

I think we're looking at a false great tribulation coming so that the false christ can come in and offer himself as the savior of the world bringing peace and calm for a short time.

3For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

While I disapprove of Alex Jones in some ways including his "Christianity" which really is nothing more than worldly philosophy, I believe he has uncovered much hidden truth in the ways of the world which really coincide with scriptural prophecy. He gets in wrong when he thinks believers will go through it all and when he thinks we can stop it if we want to but much of his research is accurate. I find these things helpful in warning lost sinners of the judgement to come so that they can turn to Christ for salvation.

As I pointed out dok, there are scriptural examples of seeking signs for God's guidance. My primary criticism is that it involves subjective behavior allowing a person to fulfill their own leanings and giving God credit for the answer. The apostles cast lots and Gideon put out a fleece but those didn't depend on the persons asking for guidance. Unless the person shows some signs of leaning toward the occult, I would take it as merely a foolish notion.

William, consider the following parable in Luke 14:

16Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:

17And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.

18And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.

19And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.

20And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

21So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.

22And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.

23And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

24For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

God wants all men to come to repentance and be saved but all men will fail on that basis alone. This leaves God with no choice but to cause some to repent and come to Christ and be saved. This is what we see in this parable.

I'm not a Calvinist but I believe Calvin got it right when it comes to God's sovereignty in salvation.

I believe the pre-trib rapture because we are to look for Christ not tribulation. Christ could return for us at any moment. I do believe however that He left a sign for His return to Israel, which is the main subject of prophecy and is subject to earthly timing. What sign did He give them? The sign of Jonah. This sign was confirmed in His death and resurrection, being in the grave two days and raised on the third. Now in Peter's epistle we read that with God a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years is as a day. In approximately 2033, the Lord will have been dead as far as the world is concerned for two days or two thousand years and His millennial reign will be the third day of His resurrection and Israel's as well. Also, if we assume that Adam was the same age when he fell as the Lord(the last Adam) was at His death, we can also reckon this date as six days of the testing of fallen man and God's working toward bring His kingdom on earth with the millennial kingdom being the Sabbath of God's rest on earth. The rapture must occur some time between now and then.
12  General Category / Fellowship / Re: Did I fail at Witnessing? on: March 04, 2011, 06:29:52 pm
The important thing is you were faithful in witnessing to him. We aren't rewarded for success but faithfulness. Be faithful first and leave the results with God. We are a savor of life unto life and death unto death. Either way God gets the glory if our testimony is true.
13  General Category / False Religions / Re: What is Calvinism? on: March 04, 2011, 06:23:51 pm
The name Calvinism is derived from John Calvin and his line of theology. The main focus of this theology is the way God works in salvation. I believe it is scripturally sound for the most part with a couple of minor exceptions. What it involves is the fact that while we choose to believe, God chose to cause us to believe in the first place or we never would. This is because man in his natural state is spiritually dead incapable of appreciating any spiritual truth such as the gospel. That is why we must be born again in order to be saved. According to John 1 and 3, this spiritual new birth is a complete sovereign work of God apart from man's will altogether. This is the first cause in bringing us to salvation. If we are born again we will receive the gospel seed producing true fruit for God. This can be seen in the good soil in the parable of the sower. The first three soil types fail to produce fruit even though they receive the good seed of the gospel. These are three various conditions that natural Adamic man can be found in. The good soil represents a heart that has been born again, capable of receiving the gospel by true faith, producing fruit for God. A key verse which shows that God is sovereign in salvation is John 6:44:

John 6:44 (King James Version)

44No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Unless a person is drawn by the Father, he will never come to Christ and if he is drawn by the Father he WILL be raised up at the last day. True salvation is a work of God from start to finish.

As some are aware, I don't hold the KJV only position. I have respect for the KJV and I usually quote from it. I believe W&H opened the dialogue to considering non-TR sources in translation work. To call modern translations W&H only isn't accurate given that none agree 100% with W&H. Also, the KJV doesn't agree 100% with the TR. The KJV is the product of the Protestant Anglican church. If you believe that there has been no spiritual progress made since the Reformation then the KJV should be your bible but if you believe God has revealed further truth beyond those precious truths recovered in the Reformation then why not consider that the same is true of His written word itself?

I live in Mississippi but I have lived in Ohio three times. I started school in Obetz, just outside of Columbus. After moving south for several years, we moved to St. Clairesville, in Eastern Ohio near the river across from Wheeling, W.Va. We then moved to Vienna, W. Va. for a few years and then moved to Berea, Ohio(good biblical name, huh?). In '77 we moved once again to Mississippi and I've been here ever since. My parents were both born in Ohio and I have a lot of relatives in Western Ohio in the Sandusky area. My mother is from Clyde, a small town in that area. My Father is from Elyria and later Bay Village, both West of Cleveland. I have an Aunt and Uncle in Cuyahoga Falls, just North of Akron.
