The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. 361  General Category / War On Family / Re: eight negative sociological outcomes to Sodomite marriage on: February 22, 2012, 09:03:08 am
1 Tim 4:1  Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2  Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
4  For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
5  For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
6  If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

--> 2967. koluo, ko-loo'-o; from the base of G2849; to estop, i.e. prevent (by word or act):--forbid, hinder, keep from, let, not suffer, withstand.

--> es·top  ( -st p )
tr.v. es·topped, es·top·ping, es·tops
1. Law To impede or prohibit by estoppel.
2. Archaic To stop up.

--> estoppel - a rule of evidence whereby a person is barred from denying the truth of a fact that has already been settled

--> rule of evidence - (law) a rule of law whereby any alleged matter of fact that is submitted for investigation at a judicial trial is established or disproved

So, I see this agenda as ultimately “debunking” God and legally barring discussion about it. Just like with Kurt Haskell regarding Farouk. Courts still rule by precedent. Legal precedent is being established now.

I agree that this topic would be based on 'Christians' who decide to go against the commands of our Lord and 'dabble' in these satanic things, but the question is about a Christian, BA, who did not state he had dabbled in such.  Therefore, I don't believe he has been possessed.

Neither do I.

BA, it sounds like just a confidence problem with what you have said so far. Most people develop confidence by practice to gain positive experience. Kind of like putting a fighter pilot “back in the saddle” ASAP after he has crashed a plane.

Perhaps I misunderstood.  Was going with what BA wanted?

Thank you for the kind words, TS and Believer - however, just want to point out that I meant for this thread to bible study discussion on "Demon possession vs. Trouble in the flesh", not so much to focus on myself(just wanted to give what I went through as a mere example).

This whole "Demon possession vs. Trouble in the flesh" seems to have ALOT of confusion in Churchianity b/c quite simply, they don't study the scriptures anymore. When you ask a typical Churchianity folk, they'll either give an answer out of what their pastor or Sun school teacher told them, or won't have a clue at all.

Believer, I agree with your assessment as well as Morton’s. We shouldn’t be fearful. But we shouldn’t be ignorant or complacent about it either. I also agree with BA that Churchianity, not studying scripture, starting tattoo parlors, and setting up Starbucks, is vulnerable to being tempted to “dabble” in these days of occult revival. These beliefs/practices are constantly being promoted in children’s cartoons as harmless fun. Movies, music, television shows, video games, magazines, and toys all depict this as “normal”.

Because of what I’ve been through, I do have a healthy respect for the enemy, just as I would when dealing with a den of diamondback rattlesnakes.

This says it all for me.  If she was possessed even whilst on her way to accepting Christ, it is plain that the Holy Spirit had not indwelled her yet.  Was she considered a Christian?  You tell me.

This is why I believe only unbelievers can be possessed for they cannot submit themselves to God and they cannot resist the devil.

Morton had a lot to say about this subject. Much more in depth at the link.

Quote
The reason we published this article was not to unduly scare anyone or try to stir up controversy, but to warn Christians who may have a false sense of security about demon possession. From talking to several fellow believers we have found most dismiss the possibility of demon possession of believers for purely emotional reasons and are not familiar enough with what the Bible says on the subject to make a knowledgeable comment. They simply don't want it to be true and like a small child think wishing it so will make it so. But as we have seen, the Bible makes no such promise about possession and actually suggests it may be possible so the safest position a believer could take is even though the Bible doesn't definitely say either way one must allow for the possibility. This is the only sensible approach. Unless one is absolutely certain there is no danger ahead, it is always prudent, in whatever circumstance, to assume the possibility of danger. This is prudent behavior whether one driving in his car or dealing with matters the Bible does not address specifically. Christians can have confidence and security about their salvation, their destiny, their Bible, and their Lord because of what the Bible says, but in areas the Bible is silent, confidence can be misplaced.

Even if demon possession of a Christian is not possible, that, in itself, is of little consolation. Until death or the rapture the ONLY part of a believer that is secure and beyond harm is his redeemed soul. Everything else he has can be lost or destroyed and is subject to satanic control or manipulation. Satan can take or destroy a Christian's health, body, spouse, children, money, job, testimony, church, Bible, rewards, peace, contentment, safety, security, and even his mind without possessing him! Again, nothing is secure but his soul, and Satan can even convince a believer he can take it too! The Devil is a powerful and formidable adversary and those Christians who smugly make light of his abilities and dabble in things the Bible warns against are teetering on the very edge of disaster.

If a Christian intentionally decided to practice divination with a ouija board or intentionally decided to participate in some voodoo blood ritual, there’s nowhere in the Bible that says they have some magical “satan shield”. The bible does say that the HS comes and goes as He pleases. Would God allow the possession, even temporarily?

Another scenario…a high-level priestess witch is called by the Father to Jesus. She gives her life to Christ and openly renounces all her works, destroying all the garb, contacts, and books associated with witchcraft. Is she saved? Is she really a Christian at that point in time?

Shortly thereafter, she becomes harassed by demons that affect her physically and mentally. She then seeks help from other Christians and experiences a deliverance of these things and discovers that they were inside of her during the witchcraft days. They literally come out of her and it takes 6 months of prayer with fellow Christians to completely free her. Is she a Christian? Was she really a Christian when she gave her life to Christ? Was she a Christian during those 6 months? This is based on testimony, BTW.

There’s also oppression (working from the outside) and temptation to deal with. But that doesn’t necessarily involve indwelling.

Also of note: those that have definitively and intentionally rejected God will have no problem whatsoever with being possessed. They may see it as a “gift”. The also will have no conscience. They could murder 10,000 people and sleep just fine at night.

BA, it sounds like just a confidence problem with what you have said so far. Most people develop confidence by practice to gain positive experience. Kind of like putting a fighter pilot “back in the saddle” ASAP after he has crashed a plane.

It was back in 2002 when I was on my way to work, and I thought I couldn't make a yellow light, so I kind of abruptly stopped at it(instead of running through it), and a van behind me just slammed into the back of me.

No, noone got hurt(including myself), however, just the impact itself gave me nightmares for quite a while.

FWIW, that was what happened.

Describe these nightmares please. Were they reoccurring? Was this the first time you had ever been in an accident? Not sure how just an impact is necessarily scary, but trying to see from your POV. BTW, I've been through that exact same scenario (yellow light, rear ended)

What is the effect of the fear? What’s the difference between your driving skills before and after this event? Is it simply a confidence issue? If somebody is with you to supervise as you say, what is he/she there to do? (assuming there’s no brake pedal on the pax side)

What happened with the accident? Were people injured? If so, how bad? Did anybody die?

Trying to understand your situation.
367  General Category / Member's videos / Re: Concerns About Reiki: Things You Should Know on: February 05, 2012, 11:02:11 pm
You've probably seen my "Help" thread in the Fellowship forum - I had this encounter with a "Christian missionary" in Israel in Dec. One minute, he was telling me that God told him that b/c I have fear of driving a car, I have no love of God walk in darkness, and have idolatry in my heart to boot, which is why I was headed for the lake of fire. Next thing I knew, he crept up on me and told me to look into his eyes and take deep breaths...and almost immediately afterward he asked me to repeat a couple of words, while he started yelling at demonic spirits to come out of me.

At the moment, it felt like a knife was put at my throat, but the Holy Spirit was telling me that what he was doing was NOT right, so I just cried to the Lord to help me and save me from this. I regretted that I didn't stand up for the truth and recite bible scriptures at him, but nonetheless I am very thankful I didn't submit to his wicked nonsense. I mean I pretty much hinted at him that I was resisting this(when I didn't respond to what he wanted me to do like looking into his eyes), but he still subtlely forced himself on me.

I mean the whole thing he was doing was just STUPID to begin with - he said NOTHING about me having demonic spirits(like said, he said I lived in darkness, have no love for God, and am an idolator), but he nonetheless snuck up on me and tried to pull off this charade under our noses. Yes, he was pretty much literally YELLING DIRECTLY at (supposedly)demonic spirits to come out of up.

Even worse, he did it RIGHT in our OWN LIVING ROOM(in front of my parents, and in front of my mom's pastor) - Shame on that pastor for falling for what he was doing. And I'm still trying to convince my parents what he was doing was witchcraft and necromancing(my mom said my face grew white, although I tried to tell her it was b/c I was horrified). Ultimately, he did NOT point me to the word of God.

BTW - 95% of this world walk in darkness and are adolators(b/c they reject Jesus Christ, of course), does that mean they're all *demonically possessed*? Roll Eyes

Well, when I was subject to this, I **knew** that there that there was something there that constantly took a whole lot of personal energy to maintain control over. And I was looking for help to deal with it. In my case there was past occultic involvement and childhood trauma. Most of the time, that is the entry point for them. They can also claim legal right to occupy due to some act in one’s ancestry. I also was aware, after the fact, of the purpose God had for me to experience this.

True deliverance involves AGREEMENT between God, the deliverance minister, and, most importantly, the person being delivered. Obviously that didn’t occur in your case. Sounds like the missionary acted presumptuously. A good deliverance minister will be driven by the desire to help people and to see them set free. A wanna-be deliverance minister will be interested in making himself look good.

In the end, this particular type of ministry earns ZERO points with Jesus, even if it’s successful. By the way, any Christian can do this. No formal training required.

For those that don’t know Christ as their personal savior, I would say the potential for demonization is rather high. The difference is that they would not see this as a problem.

Need to add that what Jesus has told me to stay away from may not apply to another Christian. Only He knows the heart. For instance, because of my past, owning occult books is a no-go for me ATM. Whereas, it may be OK for some other Christian, who is not spiritually vulnerable in that area, to fulfill God's purpose in his or her life.

Any occultic practice, ouija board, horoscope, tarot, numerology, altered states of consciousness, etc. as well as participation in any ritual of the other religions to include yoga, karate, and reiki can indeed open a door. The curse is due to seeking out solutions from supernatural beings other than God. The judgment is that He will let one do it. The beings claim a right to occupy the host due to agreement. Ex-witches, when trying to move toward Christ are often surprised to find out that they have these things inside them.

Biblically, there’s only one reason to ever communicate with these things - to get them to vacate.

I agree that Jesus Christ is the ONLY person that can and does deliver people from this.
369  General Category / Member's videos / Re: Concerns About Reiki: Things You Should Know on: February 05, 2012, 09:45:54 am
Mark et al - what is the definition of someone who talks to demonic spirits? No, not to communicate with them to get future stuff(necromancing), but the kind where they talk and yell to them directly when they *think* someone is demonically possessed et al. Is this necomancing as well? Huh

BA2 – If you’re talking about deliverance, then I would say no, it is not necromancy. Binding, loosing, and casting out ARE Biblical endeavors. However, if such activities are not led 100% by the Holy Spirit, if people act presumptuously, then even this activity can cause harm.

I’ve been on the receiving end of this. My thought, at the time, was to KNOW God as real to me. Not a myth and not a fairy tale. But there were certain aspects of my character that were a hindrance to this. It was ultimately my choice. I was mostly focused on, aware of, and seeking Him. The people around me, and their actions seemed choreographed to fit what He was doing with me.

“New Birth” Church

Invokes a curse on those “who would speak against Eddie Long”.

“…for a time such as this.”

Mentions of “God”, “the Lord”, but no Jesus.

Interesting symbolism on the floor.

LOTS of pomp…reminds me of some sort of mason ceremony.

Rainbow Crowning Ceremony by Masons

Gay man gets lifted up as “king”.

The birth of the sodomite takeover of the Baptist church.

Jesus isn’t there.

What’s the difference between this organization and the US government with its Barney Franks and czars?

After reading this thread, I get the impression that Long is definitely being shielded by TPTB.

More from the article:

Quote
One such group, the Haiti Foundation of Hope, a Christian organization addressing the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the people in the impoverished rural communities of northern Haiti, has built a number of community health programs in local villages and has seen firsthand people giving up their Voodoo beliefs and turning to Christ.

"The background of the religious belief in Haiti has been Voodoo. This came from Africa, and has been integrated into Catholicism. My experience is that as Haitians have come to know the love of Christ, there has been a huge number of people who have left the Voodoo and turned to Christ," Linda Markee told The Christian Post. Markee is the secretary, board and founding member of the Haiti Foundation of Hope and has spent two years living and working in the Caribbean nation.
Quote
"Most of the people who are following the Voodoo know that the Voodoo gods have no power – and most of them see that they get nothing from Voodoo. As Christians have come to work in different villages, and especially those that start a Holistic ministry, there are some definite changes taking place," she continued.
Quote
"We have even had a woman at the village who was a witch doctor – it took time for her to convert, she was 70 years old, but she did convert and it was a wonderful, joyful time. And even before she converted – she admitted that they (Voodoo witch doctors) did not have the power of the Christian church – I think they know that," she concluded.

AP (controlled) reports that CDC (controlled) concludes that Morgellons is imaginary. Then the AMA (controlled) will “advise” family practitioners to treat it as such, lest they lose their license. The MD then dutifully sends the patient to a psychiatrist (controlled), who consults a book (not written by Christians) to produce a false diagnosis, lest he lose his license. The solution is for all these parasites to drain the patient’s bank account until he  or she dies.

Meanwhile, scientists and geneticists, under the transhumanism agenda, post articles boasting about nanotechnology development.

The only doctors and scientists speaking about the true cause of this disease have no funding and often, no license. They have stepped out of the beast.

It’s obviously more important to spend $600,000 to maintain an official lie than it is to actually help people.

They want the major population centers wiped out so that the few that are left will be more easily controllable....

374  General Category / Bible Study / Re: The Lord Governs the Nations on: January 23, 2012, 11:45:00 am
The rulers of this world are ruling under the influence of the god of this world. Christ didn’t get caught up in the controversy of world systems but, instead, recognized and focused on the sources that influence the hearts of ALL men – from kings to politicians to criminals, slaves, and tax collectors. Since evil must work in secret, He exposed the methods of evil, nullifying its effect, and freeing human hearts to recognize and choose another, better way.

I’m convinced that there are some that have sold out to the god of this world. These are people that know that they have a conscience and take measures to actively resist it. They are also rewarded by the god of this world with positions of great power and authority.

I find it amazing how much time, effort, and money the world powers have to put into shaping and maintaining mass perception. All the think tanks, committees, media, education, religious, and political control fail when just one saint exposes their methods…methods that are already heavily documented in the Bible.

My concern is the same as His concern – That all souls in the middle of this war for hearts and minds would be released from the enemy’s influence to be able to correctly perceive the true nature and character of God.

I believe the saints do have a role to play in this process, not to be able to boast about their works, but to have the privilege of participating in His kingdom.
375  General Category / Bible Study / Re: The Lord Governs the Nations on: January 22, 2012, 12:26:37 pm
So what's wrong with this picture? ALL power is given unto the Lord, the Lord did NOT give ANY of his power to his saints.

I beg to differ.

Mt 10:1  And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

Mk 3:14-15  And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:

Mk 6:7  And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;

Jn 1:12  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Lk 10: 19  Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Acts 1:8  But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

2 Tim 1: 7  For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

One thing that the OP doesn't mention is that, when under the authority of evil, we are never commanded by God to "sit down and shut up". To the contrary, the disciples' mission would never have happened if they were muzzled.

Yeah, we are really living in some very interesting times now. Not surprised over all the church buildings are vast asleep(although would have thought a Muslim in the White House would have woke them up 3 years ago).

And as for fusing spiritual/demonic entities with technology as a means for them to travel - today's tv digital cable technology has that "silent sounds" stuff coming out of the tubes. And those movie megaplexes they put in place since 1997(at least in my area then) have done one heck of a job at manipulating the sounds in the theaters(it's a much different feel than the ordinary movie houses I grew up as a kid).

There is a testimony from a guy on YT that filmed aliens and realized that his posted videos were causing problems for people that watched. He now testifies for Christ.
His filming activities occurred in 2008. Looks like he’s rearranged his blog and YT channel quite a bit. But I remember reading that some people who viewed his YT alien clips suddenly had problems with things manifesting in their house. Note that a YT comment referred to the entities as “frogs”. This illustrates video transference.

He goes by the screen name empireuniverse. His blog is copyrighted, but here’s the link.

Again, back this, it seemed like a RARE ONE TIME ONLY event.

Interesting. First thing noticed that witness #1 was heavily involved with new-age/occult practices and states “it feels like we’re sensing more than hearing”, "I’m hearing it now”, “surprised that you can’t hear it”. Witness #2 mentions “being in meditation”.  UM mentions over 1000 people worldwide experiencing this at the time. That’s not a very high percentage.  Also, the UM reproduced sound differs from what is in the YT vids. IDK. The military has toyed with and has been interested in sound as a means of crowd control.

Curiously, the last phase of the bluebeam project, whether true or not, fuses spiritual/demonic entities with technology as a means for them to travel. Most people don’t talk about that part of the plan. I've heard of this already happening somewhat through video.

No comparison, really, b/c the trumpets will bring down the judgements from God. Last I checked, everything's A-OK in our neck of the woods.

"Unsolved Mysterious" ran an episode on this back in the early 90's - while this Robert Stack hosted show has an outward appearance of showing it catches criminals running on the loose, like 1/2 - 2/3 of their episodes were NEW AGEY stuff(ie-a boy claiming he lived during the Civil War, and was "reincarnated", ghost-infested homes, etc). So yeah, I'm not surprised it's been happening as far as recent decades, whatever the case may be, and not surprised UM ran an episode on this.

Wait, what?

So, you’re saying that UM documented this exact phenomena in the 90’s?? Hmm. Didn’t have YouTube back then nor did most know about the Mayan 2012 thing. It would be interesting to find a clip of that particular episode since people are running off the assumption that this has never ever happened before.
379  General Category / Weather/Earthquakes/Global Science Hoax's / Re: STRANGE sounds being heard around the world? on: January 19, 2012, 01:58:10 pm
Some on YT are running with this, comparing the sounds to shofars or trumpets from Revelation. I’m leaning more toward beta-testing of part of a very large man-made deception. They’ve floated a false Christ before when share international advertised on CNN. Part of the testing is to gauge how much the public will buy into any particular explanation of it. The sound maps popping up show sounds mostly in the eastern US along highway systems along with a few scattered incidents elsewhere in the world. There are also obvious hoax videos mixed in now.

I was not a geek in high school.  I know this because I never had a slushee tossed in my face (which, according to no less an authority than Glee, is the leading indicator of geek status in high school), and I never suffered the distinct indignity of a “wedgie,” and I never went to high school.  As a top-ranked gymnast, I worked through our high school’s “independent study” program, which meant that every person in every class I took thought I was perfectly wonderful.

Neither was I particularly uncool at college.  I was a varsity athlete, a relatively sociable person, and a leader in student Christian fellowships.  There were times when my counter-cultural Christianness was painfully clear.  I did not go to drinking parties, had no interest in joining a fraternity, and made no effort to bed the young ladies at Stanford University.  But, honestly, I never felt like an outsider.  Stanford had many thousands of students from hundreds of different cultures and faiths and value systems.  I was just a part of the mosaic.

It surprised me, therefore, when I found that I felt like an outsider at seminary.  We were all Christians.  Princeton Theological Seminary is a fine institution, and I enjoyed my time there.  I formed friendships with fascinating people, found mentors in excellent professors, and enjoyed the classes immensely.

And yet…I did feel like an outsider.  There was a single prevailing culture there — and I did not belong to it.  I am an evangelical with conservative leanings.  I came to PTS at the recommendation of my famously-agnostic undergraduate mentor, Van Harvey, who strongly believed that I should gain a three-year seminary education before going on to a secular research institution for the more specialized work of a doctorate.  (He was right, but more on that later.)

My Outsider status became clear to me — if not for the first time, at least in a new way — when I sat with friends on the seminary field, stretching before a game of ultimate frisbee.  It was still my first semester, and I was getting to know the people and the place.  We were talking about the sins that were emphasized in the churches that brought us up.  I said that pre- or extra-marital sex was the grave sin against which we, in my youth group and Sunday School classes, were most gravely and constantly warned.  And, I said, I appreciated that, as it had helped me maintain my commitment to abstain from sex until marriage.

I might as well have said that I believe in eating toddlers with chipotle sauce and a side order of puppies.  My friends’ and fellow seminarians’ expressions had gone, suddenly, from benign conversational interest to something that looked like rats and skunks had deposited themselves deep in their nostrils, where they were scratching and relieving themselves and spreading their odors.  This, I saw, was the last thing my friends wanted to talk about.  And such a “backwards” and “judgmental” attitude (as it would later be described to me) really had no place at an enlightened seminary.

The point here is not really about sex.  Yes, intramural sex was distressingly common amongst the people I knew at Princeton Seminary.  So were drinking and at least recreational drug use.  There were many times – many – when we would watch one of our friends, drunken or cussing or talking profanely about women, and we would say: “Can you believe he’s going to be pastoring a church in a year?”  But the point is bigger than sex.

Neither is it my intention here to make myself the judge and jury.  The seminarians I knew were good people, and I love and respect them.  I am exceedingly far from utter moral rectitude myself.  I drank far more alcohol in seminary than I have ever drank before or since.  My wife and I did manage to abstain from sex until marriage, but I sin in my thoughts and deeds every day, and I know it full well.

The point, rather, is about the culture that permeated the seminary, and whether sexual integrity and moral formation were as central to the mission and the experience as they should have been.  There were certain circles at PTS where, I think, simple obedience to traditional Christian moral teachings were more emphasized.  (I found parts of the Korean-American community were more traditional in these matters, for example.)  Yet there were large swaths of the seminary community where, perversely, it was okay to be unholy because we were all holy.  We didn’t have the accountability, the responsibility to present a compelling witness, that comes from the presence of nonbelievers or followers.  In the same way that a room full of PhD’s can feel free to act silly, because they all knew they’re smart, it seemed as though we felt free to stretch the moral boundaries because we all “knew” that we were ultimately committed to God.

But there are consequences to that kind of behavior.  Surely it says something that when I drove back to PTS from my chaplaincy work with the New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, it felt as though I were leaving behind a place where God was real and urgent and present to a place where God was formally honored but rarely dynamically present.  And surely it says something that, when I was suddenly struck with the fear of death before a surgery, I went around to my professors, essentially begging them for assurance that there was an eternity with God to be enjoyed, and the most affirmative answer I received was: “I think there’s an eternity with God; but if not, this life has been a wild ride.”

While I don’t feel positioned to draw strong conclusions on these matters, I want to raise three questions:

1.   While my Mainline Protestant friends are not going to appreciate this, I cannot help but suspect that the unhealthy part of the culture that permeated Princeton Theological Seminary is simply a part of the culture that permeates many Mainline Protestant bodies in general.  The faith and ministry that were modeled at PTS were too much about the aesthetics, the atmospherics, the experience, the rites and rhythms of church life, and not enough about plunging ever-more deeply into (to use the dreaded evangelical language) a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, by which I mean the day-to-day and moment-to-moment yielding-to and being-with Jesus.  Matters of form prevailed over matters of substance.  And when the theological inheritance of the Christian tradition is treated so casually, then so too are the moral teachings.  Our faith does not require us to believe this, we are told; our faith does not require us to do that.  Eventually it’s not clear what our faith really is anymore.  (To be clear, evangelicalism has its faults, but I hope I can speak with charity of a possible fault in Mainline Protestant circles too.)  So is it possible that Mainline Protestant seminaries are struggling, to the extent they are, simply because they belong to a culture that has slowly but steadily carved away the theological and moral commitments that teach us who God is and how he is best known and loved and served?  And since sex is one of the primary struggles for the young men and women who go to seminary, one of the most fundamental areas of life where we are asked to put aside our selfish desires and to remember our covenant with God, would a recommitment to teaching sexual integrity be a step in the right direction?

2.   I was recently asked to chart my spiritual life, and the three years I spent in seminary were represented as a steep downward arc.  Some seminarians will say the opposite, of course, but an alarming number of my friends saw their spiritual lives stall or digress or even disintegrate during their seminary years.  For me, the reason is clear: obedience.  (That was another word that often evoked bewilderment or eye-rolling amongst my fellow seminarians when I emphasized it as an important part of my faith life.)  I have always drawn closest to God when I have been obedient to him.  Why?  Because the act of submitting myself to God over and over again reminded me hundreds of time per day that God is — and the act of surrendering my will to him over and over again reminded me constantly that He is Lord — and the blessings and the companionship that came from having submitted and surrendered myself to him reminded me everyday that God is Good.  In my seminary years, I was far less obedient to what I understood as the will of God than I was in my high school or college years.  Is it possible that many seminarians see their faith suffer in their seminary years because simple, humble and thoroughgoing obedience is not sufficiently emphasized?  And how are just-minted graduates going to begin their church ministries when they have just spent 3 years disobeying and straying from God?

Amen. Most churches I’ve attended seem to think that if you don’t drink, don’t smoke, attend church, tithe, and dress “respectably”, you are saved and completely sin-free. The Pharisees are still going strong today.

For years I held tightly to the belief that, no matter what happened in my life, I had a guarantee of making it to heaven. It was deeply and secretly held in my heart, like a little pilot light. The Baptists gave me that. This helped me to endure enormous amounts of mental abuse. Unfortunately, I didn’t have knowledge of God beyond that. So, I sought relief from the world through drugs, alcohol, and occultic practices. I was drifting away from God and getting stuck in the enemy’s camp.

But, thank God, He was faithful to reach out to the abyss and call/lead me back to Himself. It was a long recovery process, about 20 years. This culminated in a recall to a church the likes of which I’d never seen before.  Charismatics. The impression I got as I was standing at the doorway of this church was “I have preserved you for this moment, and now it is time to wake up.” Prior to this, He had put in my heart a strong desire to seek Him first and foremost. I wanted to know that He was real in my life, and not just some fictional idea. Oddly, this desire was confirmed by an occultist at the time. This was before I had read the bible for myself. I wasn’t ready yet.

In a very short time, God proved to me that the Bible was not just a fanciful fairy-tale but contained truths that were the key to undoing the damage done by the enemy. An intensely wild ride ensued. But I’m seriously digressing here.

One of the things that came up during that period was the possibility of completely losing my salvation. Interestingly, this thought came via church people that pointed to scripture that seemed to back this assertion. Although I still struggle intellectually with this, I have to look back on His faithfulness to direct my life in a way that is pleasing to Him.

I’m convinced that character trumps whether I live or die physically. There is a much longer-term plan for us in which this is vital. His rule over the shaping of my character is what allows me to choose correctly. Character manifests into thoughts and attitudes. It is a deep work, and most definitely an inside job.
382  General Category / Bible Study / Re: 1 Tim 5:22 question - "Lay hands suddenly on no man..." on: January 13, 2012, 10:27:00 am
Holman Bible dictionary defines the LAYING ON OF HANDS as “A ritual act wherein hands are placed on a person or animal in order to establish some spiritual communion.” My note: This is Biblically done to transfer something from one living being to another whether it be sin, blessing, appointment, healing, or gifts of the Spirit.

When doing this, it’s vitally important to consider:

<begin pasta>
ON WHOM are the hands being laid?
BY WHOM are the hands being laid?
FOR WHAT REASON are the hands being laid?

CAUTION

There is, however, great need for wisdom to be exercised in ministering through the laying on of hands. Paul exhorted us to lay hands suddenly on no man.

1 Timothy 5: 22  Lay hands suddenly on no man. Why is this? It’s because people too often trust in their own understanding, their own spirit in the way they are led, rather than looking for inspiration from the Holy Spirit. In all things, particularly the Gifts of the Spirit, and specifically the laying on of hands, we MUST be led by the Holy Spirit. If the will of God is that you lay hands on someone, then you must be obedient. But be sure that you practice your gifts in subjection to the Holy Spirit, because it is the Holy Spirit that imparts the healing, that imparts the gifts of the Spirit, the authority or the Spiritual blessing. Without the Holy Spirit, the healing will not happen and someone’s faith might be destroyed – as is so often the case in the “Faith” Ministries where if someone is not healed, they are accused of not having enough faith!

http://www.africanaquatics.co.za/_christian/_articles/layingonhands.htm
<end pasta>

In practice, I’ve noticed that timing is everything. Long before the “laying on of hands” point in time, the Holy Spirit will have worked in the hearts of all involved, sometimes for years, preparing them for that moment. Much can go wrong if the “on whom” person isn’t ready or if the “by whom” person has been led into presumption or deceived.

2 Cor 11:4  For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

False spirits can take advantage of one’s misunderstanding or ignorance of the purpose and role of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Thus the contemporary testimony of false tongues and kundalini impartations usually driven by social pressure within the church vice a true prompting from God.

On the other hand, I believe mercy and grace are in effect as follow-up testimonies show that God is faithful to correct those that seek Him. For instance, God’s Spirit will enable somebody with false tongues to recognize this fact, repent, renounce, and have that spirit removed.

One of the best series of sermons I’ve heard was on just the Holy Spirit, who He is, what His mission is, and how He works…all strictly derived from scripture.

384  General Category / Fellowship / The "Jesus Taught Me" Karate Video on: January 10, 2012, 12:24:16 am
“Jesus Taught Me” is a notorious video of a fight posted to YouTube.

Edited version here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBdflqkfxSU
Full versions still around via search.

The video was posted by gay rights activist Bobby Joe Blythe (c.1946), a former marine, karate instructor living in Hanford, California. Blythe’s narration suggests the video was shot on 13 December 1984 and is believed to have been filmed at his karate dojo in Dumfries, Virginia. The video depicts one of Blythe’s then students assaulting an unidentified man, beating him unconscious, and stomping on the man’s head. The victim could clearly be heard stating that he did not want to fight. In the description of the video, Blythe claimed that the victim was then dragged out the back and left in a dumpster.

YouTube removed “Jesus Taught Me”, citing its extreme content, but the video has since reappeared on several web sites. In many cases, the descriptions accompanying the video allege that the victim was mentally challenged, because his claims of having been taught by Jesus.
The victims whereabouts following the incident remain unknown. Some online commentators have interpreted comments posted by Blythe in text accompanying the “Jesus Saved Me” video as meaning that the victim had died, but a retired police detective stated that the victim was seen a few days after the incident limping but declined to pursue charges.

Blythe (off camera): And of course this is where he got drug out at

Blythe (off camera): Some of the blood on the backdoor.

My comment:

At first, when I found out about this meme, I was outraged. The video was shot in 1984 and went viral on the net in 2009. By saying that Jesus taught him, he earned the media label of “mentally-challenged”. But then I had this thought……

Jesus really DID teach this man. Little did anybody know that a man of unknown origin would walk into a karate dojo in 1984 only to have his actions and demeanor filmed along with all the dojo participants that day. Little did anybody know that the video would go viral on the internet 25 years later. Little did anybody know that this man would publicly expose the character and hearts of men that involve themselves in martial arts and stir up at least 128 pages of discussion about the topic to be viewed by the world. I firmly believe that there is a spiritual component to karate, tai-chi, yoga, and other such practices.

Twenty-eight years later, the identity of KFG is still not known. Nor is it known whether the man is dead or alive. But I would say that he did accomplish his mission.

Heb 13:2  Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

Mat 25: 21  His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

I believe that i have submitted to God and the devil has fled from me at times, but it's not the devil that is the real problem it is the people that are controlled by him.

Lk 6:27-28  But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.

The devil/world keeps people obedient through deception, coercion, and threat of trauma or loss. In contrast, God’s people freely choose to be obedient to Him. When a human is firmly in the enemy’s camp, or sphere of control, one of the first things taken away from him/her is the ability to communicate directly with the real God since the camp is a weapons-free zone. They are convinced that they don’t have a choice. The two-step is to nullify any past contractual agreements that you personally may have had with the enemy that grants him direct access to your life.

However, through his human followers, he now has indirect access to you by arguing in a spiritual courtroom that humans have freewill to do as they please. This argument backfires when you do the above on their behalf. To make a truly informed choice, one has to be presented with all the facts minus the spin, slander, misconception, and lies about the character of God. Your intercession can help deceived people to realize that there is a liberator standing just outside the cell door with a life to offer them that goes far beyond what they could ever have conceived of.

It worked on me. Years ago, when God really started to move in my life, to make Himself known to me, I found out that someone who I worked with had been praying for me for a long time. I would have uncontrolled comments fly out of my mouth to visibly sting this guy followed by thoughts of why I just said that. Yet, he secretly prayed for me anyway while patiently enduring my hateful outbursts. I would say that he definitely saw something that I didn’t at the time.

I know i'm in a Satanic trap, and that Satan has taken hold of my weaknesses. God will have to work supernaturally to get me out of this situation but at the right timing. I'm open to any advice. Please comment.

Doing the “two step”

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. –James 4:7

I have done this in the past to escape strongholds that the enemy has put in my life. It’s important that it be done in the proper order…submit, then resist.

The usual problem that I encounter is that I don’t actually want to submit anything as part of my fallen nature. It’s a control issue and a trust issue. But when I realize that “the heart is deceitful above all things” then my feelings, my desires, my thoughts become unreliable to my own well being.

Thus, I find that, for spiritual purposes, submitting areas of my life via prayer are best done out loud, preferably in the presence of a witness for spiritual accountability. With such prayer, I override that which is unreliable and speak in agreement with what God wants for me anyways. I also renounce, repent, and ask for forgiveness for my agreements with that which comes from the temporary god of this world.

Here’s the astonishing thing that He’s done with me though. After doing the “two step” successfully, he removes control of that area of my life from the world and hands control of that area back to me, as He intended it to be.

I’m seeing a growing problem both inside and outside of churches. I have no doubt that rulers, powers, and spiritual forces of darkness are working overtime to lure believers with shaky faith away from the true Jesus Christ and toward a fake counterfeit spirit. This is particularly wicked, as the message delivered by these things is a slick mixture of truth and error. What He and His disciples warned about 2000 years ago is becoming more commonplace now.

I know of a couple, dear friends of mine that have been hit hard by one of these spirits. It is destroying a marriage. My request is for the true Jesus Christ of Nazareth to override any and all spiritual shenanigans and to bring both them and myself to the solid knowledge and love of God’s truth first and foremost, which is Jesus Christ. I also request prayer for my increased wisdom and guidance from Him alone that I may know when to speak, what to speak, who and who not to speak to, and when to remain silent.

May the Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you all, setting you clearly apart from a world that is plummeting into an abyss, that you, the saints, will be able to endure, and stand fast, and be effective for His kingdom. I thank God for all of you.
