Actor Kirk Cameron seems to have softened his views about homosexuals even as he offers some advice for married heterosexuals.

The Growing Pains star had made headlines in the past for his stern views on gay marriage but in an interview with AL.com, the actor said that adulterers and fornicators pose a bigger threat to marriage and society than gay people.

"When people get too focused on redefining marriage, you're distracted from the bigger problem - fornicators and adulterers," Cameron told the website.

"If the people sitting in the pews are fornicators and adulterers, the church will destroy marriages much more quickly than those outside the church. When God's people mock marriage, God doesn't take that lightly."

The 80's sitcom star avoided commenting against gay marriage and urged people to redefine their marriage.

"I think the greatest threat to marriage is not other people's definition of marriage," Cameron said. "The church isn't taking God's definition of marriage seriously. It's not other people sabotaging marriage that's the problem."

Cameron strongly believes in the traditional family and has always remained outspoken against gay marriages and relationships. In January this year, the former teen idol had called the Grammy Awards' same-sex marriage ceremony an "assault on the traditional family."

He also called gay people 'unnatural', 'detrimental,' and 'ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.'

Cameron has been roundly criticised for his strong remarks against same-sex couples.
