Colorado Dems: Killing Babies Okay; Don't Abuse Animals

Democrats in Colorado apparently feel that a baby inside the womb is fair game for being butchered, even without the mother’s consent, according to The Federalist. GOP legislators brought a fetal homicide bill to the floor that would allow prosecutors to charge someone with murder when an unborn baby is killed without the mother’s wishes, a bill prompted when seven-month pregnant Michelle Wilkins’s baby, to be named Aurora, was literally cut out of her womb by an assailant. She survived, but the baby died, and the district attorney could not press murder charges because the coroner said the baby was not alive outside the womb.

But Democrats actually oppose the bill. Why? As David Harsanyi, senior editor at The Federalist, surmises, “The truth is that pro-choice advocates don’t want district attorneys prosecuting people for killing fetuses because it sets up two dangerous debates. First, the act of humanizing unborn babies that women want to keep means humanizing unborn babies others do not want to keep. Aurora got a name, but the other third-trimester babies disposed of aren’t as fortunate. Secondly, any admission by liberals that life in the womb is human life worthy of protections sets up a host of uncomfortable philosophical questions and legal precedents."

Harsanyi points out that the bill “unequivocally exempts the mother, any physicians performing ‘medical procedures’ at the request of the mother, or anyone who gives the mother any lawful medication that might induce a miscarriage.” Thus Democrats have no moral place on which to stand, as the bill is targeted simply at criminal acts by others.

Sen. Pat Steadman, D-Denver, blustered, "I am disappointed that the Republicans are choosing to use what happened to the Wilkins family to get 'personhood' into law."

Democrats in Colorado, a state which has harsh penalties for abuse of animals, will not state that a seventh-month old fetus has the same rights as an animal. This is what the Democratic Party has come to.
