The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. The Young Messiah (film)

The Young Messiah is an upcoming American biblical drama film directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh and co-written by Betsy Giffen Nowrasteh and Nowrasteh, based on the novel Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt by Anne Rice. The film stars Adam Greaves-Neal, Sean Bean, David Bradley, Lee Boardman, Jonathan Bailey, and David Burke. The film revolves around a fictional interpretation of a seven-year-old Jesus, who tries to discover the truth about his life when he returns to Nazareth from Egypt.

Nowrasteh acquired the film rights in 2011, and wrote the script along with his wife Betsy Giffen. Chris Columbus developed the film through his 1492 Pictures banner and helped the film financing by Ocean Blue Entertainment. FilmDistrict acquired the US distribution rights in 2013, which were later transferred to Focus Features in 2014. Principal photography began on September 15, 2014 in Matera and Rome, Italy.

Although the film was known throughout production as Christ the Lord, Focus Features announced on September 1, 2015 that it would now be called The Young Messiah. Nowrasteh said in a press release, "This new title better conveys how our film seeks to present a realistic portrait of Jesus as a child both grounded in faith and consistent with the adult Jesus revealed in the Bible."[3]

The film is scheduled to be released domestically on March 11, 2016 by Focus Features.

Bible Defender Finds Plenty of Problems With 'Young Messiah'

Bible scholars know little about the early life of Jesus, but that hasn't stopped filmmakers from blending fact with fiction. The upcoming March 11 release of The Young Messiah is no exception, yet it's unfair to paint all productions with this brush.

The Jesus Film and some portions of Jesus of Nazareth accurately depict the angelic visitation to Mary as well as Jesus' three-day temple court experience (Luke 2:41-50). After Jerusalem, the Bible tells us little about Jesus until the age of 30 (Luke 2:51-52).

The Young Messiah, based upon Anne Rice's novel Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt, is a fictional account of Jesus' life (age 7), the uncovering of secrets about his Messianic identity and his re-introduction into Israeli society.

But there are obvious scriptural, archaeological and chronological problems one must address. It is known, according to the Jewish historian Josephus, that King Herod the Great died in 4 B.C. and that Jesus was born no earlier than 6 B.C.

Prior to his death, the paranoid Herod orders the "Massacre of the Innocents" (Matt. 2:13-18) targeting males 2 years old and younger in Bethlehem and surrounding areas. Jesus' family flees to Egypt and then are told to return to Israel after the kings death via dreams (Matt. 2:13, 19-20). This would place Jesus at age 2 or less, not 7.

In addition to bad chronology, other cinematic Bible myths may include:

Jesus accidentally killing a bully and resurrecting him.

Joseph's prior marriage and son before Jesus' birth.

Joseph's nonsexual, emotionally cold relationship with Mary (contradicts Mark 6:3, Matt. 13:55-56).

The family struggle in telling Jesus about his true Messianic identity.

Jesus and his family are almost trampled in Jerusalem during a Passover riot.

Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, is killed by Roman soldiers.

Will you go see The Young Messiah even if it's fiction?

This movie sounds completely ridiculous. Jesus kills someone and then resurrects him? Are you kidding me?

Director insists ‘The Young Messiah’ doesn't contradict the Bible

uhm, its all made up  Huh

Adapted from the 2005 best-seller “Christ The Lord: Out of Egypt,” Cyrus Nowrasteh’s “The Young Messiah” imagines the life story of Jesus at 7 years old. But a number of film reviewers have criticized Nowrasteh for not staying true to the Bible. Nowrasteh spoke with FOX411 to dispel the critics and defend his film.

“This movie is a reverential and a respectful movie towards Jesus and the faith and Christianity,” he insisted. “There is nothing in this movie -- and I have been told this been numerous Theologians and people who I talk to and who advise me -- there is nothing in this movie that contradicts anything that is in the Bible.”

One film review, for example, slammed the movie for its depiction of Jesus.

“[‘The Young Messiah’] suggests that this confused, questioning prodigy had to be taught that He is God. But were that the case, as it clearly is in the film, the boy would not be God.”

Another said it is not in line with the Bible.

“This movie has great production value, and good acting…But when it comes to biblical movies I tend to like them staying with scripture. I have yet to find anything in the Bible that hints that a 7-year-old Jesus raised a bird (and a boy) from the dead.”

Nowrasteh said his film is a work of fiction and should be taken as such.

“We make it very clear at the front of the movie that this is fiction and we are imagining one year in the boyhood of Jesus; so we are not trying to present something as fact or something that isn’t and we are doing it reverently,” he said.

He said he made the film so children could watch it and connect with a young version of Jesus.

“I think it’s a beautiful story that makes Jesus very accessible to explore him as a child,” he said. “… [Kids are] completely enthralled by the notion of a Jesus who is like them, who was a child.

And Nowrasteh said he embraces the conversation the criticism of the film is creating.

“I think it’s fine if people want to question the movie and what we are doing and want to examine it; it inspires conversation and debate. I am all for it, I think that’s great.”

Ultimately Nowrasteh wants viewers to enjoy the story of Jesus with no intentions of a specific takeaway.

“It makes Jesus so much more relatable, watching his generosity, his compassion, his kindness, his love, his inquiry—it just makes him so accessible not only to children but to everyone, and if you are coming out of the theatre talking about Jesus I think that’s a good thing.”

“The Young Messiah” is in theaters now.

There is nothing to take away from this movie, as nothing in this movie is in the BIBLE, it is all made up.
