September 24, 2017, 10:45:16 pm Psalm 51:17 says: The specific rule pertaining to the national anthem is found on pages A62-63 of the league rulebook. It states: “The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem. “During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.”

Hurricane Irma 5 p.m. update: Track shifts west, with Central Florida impact more likely

Hurricane Irma’s track has shifted west, bringing a greater chance of the massive Category 5 storm having a significant impact on Central Florida.

The National Hurricane Center said in its 5 p.m. update that “it has become more likely” that Irma will hit South Florida “as a dangerous major hurricane, and bring life-threatening storm surge and wind impacts to much of the state.”

Models showed the hurricane’s track slicing through the middle of the state, curving east as it moves north.

"The new NHC track lies directly over Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties. This track would bring the most damaging winds into our corridor,” Fox 35 meteorologist Brooks Tomlin said

The National Hurricane Center issued a hurricane watch and storm surge watch for the Florida Keys and parts of South Florida Thursday as the Category 5 storm rolls toward the state.

The watches — Florida’s first for Hurricane Irma — will likely extend north throughout the evening.

The forecast cone shows Irma reaching South Florida early Sunday morning as a Category 4 storm. Central Florida is expected to begin feeling tropical storm force winds Saturday night, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Water could reach 5 to 10 feet above ground if the storm surge happens at high tide in south Florida. Coastal areas will see the deepest waters, “where the surge will be accompanied by large and destructive waves,” according to the NHC.

As of 5 p.m. Thursday, Maximum sustained winds are 175 mph, and the storm is moving west-northwest at 16 mph. Irma was toward the Turk and Caicos Islands and should be near the southeastern Bahamas later this evening, according to the NHC.

Much of Florida is in the cone of uncertainty, with the eye of the storm hugging the east coast as it heads north. The storm also likely will impact Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, forecasters said.

“This could easily be the most costly storm in U.S. history, which is saying a lot considering what just happened two weeks ago," said Brian McNoldy, a hurricane researcher at the University of Miami, alluding to the damage caused by Hurricane Harvey.

Forecasters say Central Florida will see the worst of Irma starting late Sunday and early Monday, but the severity of the storm’s impact depends a lot on whether the track shifts, said Will Ulrich, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Melbourne.

He said Central Florida will likely be under a hurricane watch by Thursday evening. Throughout the entirety of the storm, the Orlando region has a 72 percent chance of at least 39 mph through the storm, a 36 percent chance of at least 58 mph winds and a 15 percent chance of at least 74 mph winds, though Ulrich said those chances continue to increase.

“This is definitely one of the biggest threats we’ve faced in Central Florida in quite some time,” Ulrich said, adding the damage last year from Hurricane Matthew along Florida’s east coast could seem minimal compared to Irma.

The storm’s path shows it could steer east, possibly skirting alongside the state but forecasters said there’s still a chance it could turn west.

“Right now, the tracks still show Central Florida feeling a lot of impact from a major hurricane, so I’m not sleeping comfortable at night,” Ulrich said. “We have to assume this storm is going to hit us because we can’t afford not to be prepared.”

Gov. Rick Scott urged those across the state to prepare because the storm could shift.

“Everyone should prepare to evacuate. We don’t know where this storm is going,” he said. “…It could potentially devastate our state. You have to take it seriously no matter where you are.”

Hurricane-force winds are extending 70 miles from Irma’s center, with tropical storm-force winds reaching out 185 miles.

He said even if the storm stays off the coast of Florida, the storm surge will be “traumatic.” There could be more than 10 feet of storm surge and the water “could cover your house,” Scott said.

Scott said more than 6,800 volunteers have signed up to help during the storm, but 17,000 are needed. To sign up, go to volunteerflorida.org.
