It states: “The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem. “During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.”

Magic the Gathering (the card game)

Dr. Johnson,
I was listening to your teaching on video games and it reminded me of how my husband and his friends are with Magic the card game. The game is so outright demonic it's insane, but my husband is so blind to it he thinks nothing is wrong. I do honestly question his salvation seeing as he spends ALL of his time playing these abominations and never opens his bible. I recently had a baby and right around the time she was born my husband started playing this game again, and it's as though his child means nothing. Seriously every word that comes out of his mouth is about magic, he doesn't want or think to talk about anything else. He spends all his free time either playing, building decks or reading about this stupid game from the pit of hell. He leaves for 8-12 hours at a time to play! (He doesn't even work that many hours in a day) And he doesn't see a problem with it at all.
I tried to stand up and say something and he went nuts, he was so demonically possessed all I could do was back off. He would not hear any scripture. It was like trying to tell someone with an addiction they have a problem! He is so altered and agressive now I wouldn't even know he was my husband. He also spends all of our money on this game without thinking about it! It didn't matter we had no money for food, he still went and spent $100 on this stupid game.
He tried to get me to play with him, and I learned the game to see what it was all about, it is so blantatly evil, its all about witcraft and performing different spells each turn to destory the other persons creature. It made me so sick i quit after a turn. I've noticed with all my husbands friends they are just as intrenched and obsessed as he is, and this game is a doorway to many other games they play all day long. I don't know how to get my husband back, he hates me because I hate the game and we fight all of the time, all because of this obsession with this abomination from hell! Would be glad for some prayers Smiley thx for the teaching as well! May God Bless your ministry!

I will definitely be praying that the strongholds Satan has on this man be broken of. He needs to know the Scriptures, even if they are read to him. God works miracles so i believe that this man can have this obsession stopped and that his life will change.

this kind of goes to OCD,
some people check the front door too much,
magic is bad cause it's a dead end for many,
a 'light show' if you will.

it can "posses" you i guess but don't you have to stop loving your family first? and wasn't that a free will thing?

eh?

The guy isn't "possessed" by a card game. By a spirit? Definately possible if the guy isn't saved and baptized with the Holy Ghost.

It sounds as though the woman is suggesting he is saved? Maybe she is mistaken about that and only thinks he is? But I can also imagine that she is putting some real pressure on him to be a husband to her and a parent to their child and I suspect he's really feeling pressured and is now trying to find a release from the new life responsibilies. It also sounds as though the couple is young, because most who play that type game are younger guys, say in the 20's. Being young, married and with a new child would be huge pressure on a young couple.

While that game is neither edifying nor expedient, the bigger problem is his alleged neglect of his family and child in particular. He has a responsibility as a parent, and all else becomes secondary to raising the child up in the way it should go. BUT, if he isn't born-again or really believe, then what he should do doctrinally becomes secondary to repenting and being baptized. So not being saved is the primary issue, along with all the other issues a person will have being unsaved.

So as a little different angle, I think it's just as important to point out his not being a parent and husband is as important as him not playing an unedifying game. We as Christians do all kinds of things we shouldn't do that aren't edifying, so I think we can get caught up in telling what not to do, when it's just as importnat to tell people what to do instead. Too much negative can drive people away. People want a little honey in life, and if all they get is vinegar, they aren't nearly as receptive! The Word is honey to the soul.

Along those lines, the wife needs to remember that she can get too "preachy" and cause harm rather than good. If all he hears is her telling how bad he's being for playing that game, he won't suddenly stop playing because of the nagging. It will only get worse. She needs to pray for being meek and humble, and for God to handle it for her. Get out of God's way and let Him take care of the situation.

The reality is that the game isn't the problem at all. We know an idol is nothing. The problem is he's neglecting his adult responsibilities. If he doesn't want anything to do with the Holy Bible or being Christian, I'd say he was never saved like she may think he was.
