Second Vatican state to be established in Jerusalem

http://ivarfjeld.wordpress.com/2010/07/03/second-vatican-state-to-be-established-in-jerusalem/

“The Old City of Jerusalem will become a “special regime”. It will be an autonomous, self-governing entity. The Chief Administrator will have minimum reliance on the existing regimes and structures”.

This is a policy proposal from “Jerusalem Old City Initiative”. The proposal is a fruit of the “peace process”, and inter faith dialogues between Jews, Muslims, Catholics and claimed to be “Christians”.

People are not aware that the planning of a the seat of the last antichrist has reached its final stages. This work got a booster after the implementation of the Oslo “peace accord”.

The final push for the end game, started with the formation of The Council of the Religious Institutions of the Holy Land in 2005. This council has Muslims, Jews, Catholics and claimed to be “Christians” in its governing body.

When you read their statement of faith, you are introduced to the final One World Religion. They try to tell us that all faiths leads to the same god. Now they plan the arrival of their leader.

Statement of faith:
“As religious leaders of different faiths, who share the conviction in the one Creator, Lord of the Universe; we believe that the essence of religion is to worship G-d and respect the life and dignity of all human beings, regardless of religion, nationality and gender”.

This is the councils website: http://www.crihl.org/

Did you know that both The Chief Rabbinate of Israel and the The Islamic Sharia Courts of the PA is supporting this Norwegian proposed “inter faith initiative” in Jerusalem?

And the head of this council is a Norwegian Lutheran priest, Mr. Trond Bakkevig. He is supported by the Church of Norway, and the World Council of Churches.

And when the final “peace deal” almost went through in Annapolis in November 2007, The Religious interfaith Council was getting ready to party in the Norwegian Embassy in Washington.

To get the Old City of Jerusalem ready for a “special regime” to come, The “peace makers” have formed an International work shop called “Jerusalem Old City Initiative”. This initiative is sponsored by the mainly protestant Christian republic of Canada. Their head office is at The University of Windsor in Ontario, Canada.

The website of “Jerusalem Old City Initiative”.
http://web2.uwindsor.ca/wsgcms/Projects/JerusalemInitiative/indexTpl.php

When you go through this web-site, reading strategic documents, reports and plans, you will be stunned by what they have suggested.

It is a copy-cat plan of the foundation of the Vatican statehood in 1929.

And the ideas of how to rule this Old City statehood in Jerusalem, seems to be collected from the governance of the present Papal system.

The final plan will be presented to the government of Israel as an offer, they simply “have to” accept.

The new statehood in Eastern Jerusalem will have a “Chief administrator” who govern a “special regime”. His powers will be  similar to the Pope of Rome.

Please take a closer look at their web-sites.

Below are some of the suggestions from Jerusalem Old City initiative.

The Chief Administrator will be lifted above the laws. He will have his own statehood, and his inhabitants will be a closed circle of faithful servants. From this seat, He can practice his lawlessness.

These suggestions are found in the summaries of the executive reports:
1. An autonomous bureaucracy

2. To have its own inhabitants.

3. A robust security force.

4. A Council, a partly democratically elected body with power of veto over actions of the Administrator.

5. Old City as a single unit under a single administrator, having executive authority.

6. Agreement between the parties, with two national capitals, Al Quds and Yerushalayim.

7. A single Old City Police service to be established.

This is the text found in one of the strategic document on this web site.

Key Characteristics and Functions of the Special Regime

The proposed special regime, headed by a Chief Administrator, would be responsible for the efficient and equitable management and governance of the Old City, including ensuring the sanctity of and access to the Old City’s Holy Sites.

To meet these responsibilities, the special regime would require an empowered autonomous bureaucracy — one whose leadership has the confidence of both Israel and Palestine and one that is vested with both the authority and the capacity to administer, manage, and police specific aspects of the Old City and its inhabitants.

A key function of the Special Regime this regime would be to ensure equity, law, and order. Security will be the test of any peace agreement: if order in the Old City breaks down, any Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement itself will be at risk.

Thus, the Old City Special Regime would require a robust security force, with the capacity both to deliver even-handed law enforcement and justice and to confront successfully large-scale security threats, including potential efforts by extremists from the various camps seeking to undermine an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement.

Lets take a look at a photo feature on what a second Vatican statehood in Jerusalem might look like:

Could that be their solution to Palistine? Put it all under the neutral third party the RCC, and let the Pope play referee between the two? Maybe part of the deal Israel is allowed to build a temple on the mount?

The Vatican is Not A Friend of the Jews
 Published: Thursday, July 04, 2013 3:37 PM

What is the Vatican hiding? As negotiations proceed to give the church rights on Israel's Mount Zion, perhaps it is a good time to remember some other open accounts with that entity.

The resignation of Pope Benedict XVI elicited all sorts of praise from Jewish community leaders; the election of Pope Francis and his subsequent meetings with Jewish leaders equal declarations of hope for a bright future for Catholic-Jewish relations.

But the focus on the Catholic Church at a time of transition also raises serious, time-sensitive questions for Jews. Specifically, why won’t the Vatican open its archives that cover the years of the Shoah and its immediate aftermath?  It’s not only the wartime and post-war record of Pius XII and the Vatican that we should be concerned with, we still don't know what happened to hundreds, maybe thousands of children left for safekeeping in monasteries, convents, and Catholic homes whose parents and other relatives never came back to retrieve them at war's end.

What is the Vatican hiding?

Not only was the Vatican complicit in the mass murder of European Jews, but their policies saw to it that there would be fewer Jews in surviving generations by making sure at least some became and remained Catholic.  It's not as though the Church doesn't have a long history of baptizing Jewish children and keeping them.  Indeed documents have come to light in recent years indicating that this practice continued during, and after the Shoah.

This is what makes the Jewish accolades showered upon Benedict XVI and his post-Shoah predecessors, including the much admired John XXIII, so troubling. Regardless of what any of these men did to better Catholic-Jewish relations, and I don't deny they are better because of those efforts, there are still critical unanswered questions.

The Vatican has the answers, but they won’t give them to us. This renders olive branches to the Jews by post-Shoah  popes virtually meaningless.

Why is this issue so noticeably absent from Jewish praise of these and previous popes?  Why the reluctance to push the issue? Why do we permit the Catholic Church to have any control at all over our lives?  We are past the era when we lived at the sufferance of the Church.  Yet we continue to behave as though little has changed.

There is some evidence that Pope Francis thinks the archives should be open, but we cannot afford to be silent. Our leaders must demand the archives be opened and that the Vatican immediately be forthcoming with the names and birthplaces of the children who were given to them for safekeeping during World War II.

Their families deserve the comfort of closure in their remaining years and time is running out.

I've been thinking about this whole situation, and it's an amazing one indeed. The Vatican is one OLD continuously-active institution, up to their tricks for about 1700 years or so. That's A LOT of stuff to take from the locals during invasions of foreign "pagan" lands over the ages. I also don't believe the Vatican when it says such things as there were only 5 Mayan codices saved and brought back to Europe. Same for the RCC's take on the Knights Templar and artifacts from Jerusalem.

There is a tv show, which I believe is an in-your-face admission, called "Warehouse 13", a storage place for special "relics" that have powers. And it's US Secret Service agents that run it, working for mysterious "Regents", who are portrayed to have some kind of mystical aspect. Sounds like the Vatican archives to me.

No question they've had men over time, as a "token of their service" to the "church, that have done service for the RCC without the Vatican even asking them, so there is no telling what has been brought back to Rome under cover of darkness.

There are many people who have a vested interest in the archives staying sealed to the public.

So, I wonder if the RCC is the woman riding the beast, would an opening of the Vatican archives initiate her fall? Hmm. I suspect they have a thing or two put away that would make a lot of people very angry at the Vatican.

One angle that has crossed my mind on putting pressure on the Vatican to open up is deeming their archives as a "World Heritage" site, deeming it so "invaluable", that it must be for all mankind and "shared" among all people of the world.

Yeah, the whole situation could turn all kinds of ways pretty much overnight.

If this is true, this is huge!!!

U.S. plan gives Jerusalem holy sites to Vatican

International mandate to control sections of Israel's capital

Secretary of State John Kerry quietly presented a U.S. plan for eastern Jerusalem that calls for an international administrative mandate to control holy sites in the area, according to informed Palestinian and Israeli diplomatic sources.

The exact composition of the international mandate is up for discussion, the sources said, but Kerry’s plan recommended a coalition that includes the Vatican, together with a group of Muslim countries such as Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

The international arrangement is being proposed as a temporary solution for about two to three years while security arrangements in Jerusalem between Israelis and Palestinians are finalized, said the sources.

Israel, the sources said, was not receptive to the particulars of Kerry’s plan, especially the concept of Turkish participation in Jerusalem. Kerry told the Israelis he would hold talks with the Kingdom of Jordan about its playing a leading role in the proposal in the place of Turkey, the sources added.

Kerry was in Jerusalem on Friday as part of an Obama administration effort to reach a deal for a Palestinian state by April, a timeline that is still on track, Kerry told reporters.

“We are working on an approach that both guarantees Israel’s security and fully respects Palestinian sovereignty,” Kerry added.

According to the Israeli and Palestinian diplomatic sources speaking to WND, Kerry’s trip this time around focused specifically on the particulars of security arrangements for the strategic Jordan Valley following a deal.

In October, WND exclusively reported Kerry was strongly urging Israel to give up the Jordan Valley in closed-door talks with the Palestinian Authority.

The current round of U.S.-brokered talks is attempting to hash out the details of a plan for the valley.

The Jordan Valley cuts through the heart of Israel. It runs from the Tiberias River in the north to the Dead Sea in the center to the city of Aqaba at the south of the country, stretching through the biblical Arabah desert.

The U.S. proposal calls for international forces to maintain security control along with unarmed Palestinian police forces, a senior Palestinian Authority negotiator told WND in October. Israel will retain security posts in some strategic areas of the Jordan Valley, according to the U.S. plan.

Previous talks incorporated an element of Jordanian authority in the Jordan Valley, but the Kingdom of Jordan is wary of participating in a future Palestinian state, the negotiator said.

The Palestinian negotiator pointed to the insurgency in Syria and changes of leadership in Egypt as reasons for Jordanian reluctance to assume any security control over Palestinian areas.

What an evil plan! That would be a huge compromise for Israel! Kerry should be sent back to the US for suggesting something like this.

Rabbi Says Petrus Romanus Coming To Israel To Take Over Mount Zion

The plan to split Jerusalem’s holy sites between various religions “has existed for some time, and now they’re going to implement it in stages,” Rabbi Ariel warned, adding, “During the Pope’s next visit they plan to transfer the Cenacle on Mount Zion to him.” He criticized Israel’s rabbis, including the Chief Rabbis, for their silence. “Not long ago they gave the Russian Compound to Russia, now the [Vatican is] restoring a church – unused until now – on the Mount of Olives, and thus they slowly sell Jerusalem, and nobody raises their voice in protest,” he charged. “Where is the Chief Rabbinate? They’re going to take the heart of Jerusalem and make it a [Vatican] center,” he continued. (Also see: Israel Reports Mount Zion To Be Relinquished To Vatican)

Report: Vatican Pushing for Control of Mount Zion
Christian leaders push Israel to hand over control of area housing King David’s tomb, ‘last supper’ hall.

Christian leaders reportedly pressured Israel to turn over control of Mount Zion in Jerusalem during a clandestine meeting of senior city officials.

The meeting took place Tuesday in the office of Attorney Amnon Merhav, the director-general of the Jerusalem municipality. It was attended by officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, President’s Office, Tourism Ministry, Police, Kotel Rabbi’s Office, and more.

During the meeting, representatives of Christian groups in the capital pushed Jerusalem leaders to give the Catholic Church control over the Mount Zion area that includes the “Hall of the Last Supper.” There have been reports that Israel’s government is planning to turn the building in question over to the Vatican prior to the Pope’s expected visit in May.

Pope Francis is expected to visit Israel and to lead a service in the Hall of the Last Supper.

The same building that houses the hall, which is holy to Christianity, also includes the tomb of King David, a holy site frequently visited by Jews. Some Church officials expressed upset over what they termed a major increase recently in the number of Jewish visitors to the site.

Representatives of the Israel Police and Shin Bet who were at the meeting warned that turning the building over to the Church could spark Jewish “price tag” attacks.

Several Members of Knesset and ministers have asked the Prime Minister to respond to rumors that he is planning to give control of the Mount Zion compound to the Vatican. To date, the Prime Minister’s Office and Foreign Ministry have refused to respond, although Deputy Foreign Minister Zev Elkin stated in mid-2013 that the government has no such plans.

In response to reports regarding the Tuesday meeting, the city of Jerusalem released a statement saying, “The state of Israel and the Jerusalem municipality are paying special attention to the Mount Zion compound, with the goal of improving and updating the infrastructure and the municipal service, and of calming tension… The municipality will continue to lead the process as the central sovereign power on Mount Zion.”

The Prime Minister’s Office declined to respond.

Israel surrendering holy site to Vatican?
Report: Delegation 'presses for control' during 'secret' meeting

Published: 1 day ago

By Israel Today

Israel could be entering the final stages of negotiations to turn over control of Mount Zion to the Vatican, according to a report by Israel National News.

According to the online news source, a secretive meeting took place this week between the Jerusalem Municipality, Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Tourism and senior Catholic officials.

During the meeting, the Catholic delegation reportedly pressed Israel to follow through on a years-old proposal to give the Church control over the compound that houses the traditional “Hall of the Last Supper.”

History is still being made in Israel today — don’t miss it. Subscribe to “Israel Today.”

The problem is that the same compound also houses the traditional “Tomb of David,” a holy site revered and frequented by religious Jews. Not to mention that Mount Zion is symbolic of Jerusalem as a whole, and surrendering it to the Vatican would be seen by many Israelis as a repudiation of Judaism’s claim to the city.

In response to reports regarding the negotiations, the Jerusalem Municipality released a statement insisting that it would remain “the central sovereign power on Mount Zion.”

Others are not so sure, and believe Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intends to turn over control of Mount Zion prior to Pope Francis’ visit to the Holy Land in May.

Alarm over Reported Deal with Vatican for David's Tomb

Official tells Arutz Sheva Israel has no intention of transferring control to the Catholic church, but new reports say otherwise.

4/20/14

Is there a secret deal between the Vatican and Israel to transfer control over King David's Tomb to the Catholic church? An investigative report in Makor Rishon cites La Stampa Vatican Insider journalist Andrea Tornielli as saying that the deal has been nearly completed, and that Deputy Foreign Minister Ze'ev Elkin is in charge of the negotiations with the Vatican, but Israel denies any such deal.

The agreement allegedly contains two elements. The first is Israel's forgoing the levying of property tax and other taxes for all “churches, holy sites, prayer houses and cemeteries.” The second is the transfer of the “Last Supper room” on the floor above David's tomb to the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land (Custodia Terræ Sanctæ).

Rabbi Yaakov Sevilia, an activist for King David's Tomb, told Arutz Sheva Sunday that there is also a deal between Christians and Muslims, according to which the Muslims will retain control over the Temple Mount whereas Mount Zion will become Christian property. He cited journalist Gulio Meotti, who contributes regularly to Arutz Sheva, as the source for this knowledge.

Rabbi Sevilia emphasized that the tomb is, without a doubt, the burial place of King David, and mentioned a recent book – “The Secret of David's Tomb” – as containing proof of this claim.

"The Christians believe that the Tomb of David is indeed located here, but they do everything possible to confuse us, the Jewish people, so that we lose our connection to this place,” he accused. He added that while there has been a Jewish awakening with regard to the site, the Christian presence at the tomb is still much greater than the Jewish presence, with about 200 tour buses bringing Christians to the site daily.

There have been reports in the past about a deal to transfer the second floor of the Tomb to the Vatican. Tornielli says that this is the core issue in talks between the Vatican and Israel. Rabbi Sevilia claims that the Last Supper Room is just a toehold that the Vatican intends to expand in the future, in a ploy to take over the entire Tomb site.

An Israeli diplomatic source told Arutz Sheva Sunday that the Israeli government has no intention of transferring control over the site to the Church.

Israel to grant Vatican control of site of Last Supper?

An Israeli lawmaker claims that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has spoken with Chief Sephardic Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef about the possibility of ceding the Tomb of David— located in an old church building that is also revered by Christians as the site of the Last Supper—to the Vatican.

The report—which has not been confirmed by the Israeli government—comes after earlier rumors that the government was engaged in secret negotiations with the Vatican about future control of the site.

The Tomb of David is on the ground floor of the building in Jerusalem, which dates back to the 4th century. The Cenacle, the site of the Last Supper, is on the upper floor. Rules regarding access to the holy sites have been under discussion as part of the broader talks between the Holy See and Israel, aimed to conclude an agreement establishing the legal status of the Church in Israel. However, last July the Israeli deputy foreign minister, Zeev Elkin, denied rumors that the government was prepared to recognize Vatican ownership of the building.

Negotiations on the long-awaited juridical pact between the Vatican and Israel are a focus of renewed interest as Pope Francis plans for his visit to the Holy Land later this month.

Netanyahu 'Asked Rabbi to Allow Giving David's Tomb to Vatican'
An MK Says Netanyahu has contacted the Chief Sephardic Rabbi, asked for halakhic permission to make the move.

A Knesset Member said Thursday that Chief Sephardic Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef told him that the Prime Minister's bureau contacted him and asked to grant halakhic permission for Israel to hand over the Tomb of David to the Vatican.

The startling news was revealed by the Knesset Member during a tour of the Tomb of David by four MKs – Yoni Chetboun of the Jewish Home, who initiated the tour, Moshe Feiglin (Likud-Beytenu), Nissim Ze'ev (Shas), and Meir Porush (United Torah Judaism – UTJ).

The MKs were unanimous in declaring that they intend to do everything within their power to forestall any attempt to hand over the Tomb to the Vatican. There are also reports that not just the Tomb, but the entire Mount Zion compound is up for transfer. The MKs made clear that the zone is under Israeli sovereignty and will remain so.

There have been reports, recently, of a secret negotiation channel between the Vatican and the Israeli government, regarding the Tomb – and especially its second floor, which the Vatican calls the “Room of the Last Supper” – and the Mount Zion compound.

Officially, this report was denied by the government, with Deputy Minister Ze'ev Elkin taking to the Knesset podium to state that it was untrue.

However, the government has decided to place the exclusive authority regarding the holy sites in the hands of the prime minister – fueling speculation that a secret deal is indeed in the works.

The Vatican's attempts to gain a sovereign foothold on Mount Zion have been going on for year, but thus far unsuccessfully.

The visit to Israel by Pope Francis is less than a month away. This is a factor in the timing of the MKs' tour of the compound. A representative of the Religions Ministry's Department of Holy Sites was also present.

The MKs promised to pass a law making the Tomb of David an official holy site.

"For many years, the Vatican has been investing large sums in purchasing assets in Jerusalem, with the purpose of blurring the city's Jewish character,” said Chetboun. “This trend must be blocked, and the Basic Law on Jerusalem, which forbids handing over sovereignty on parts of the city to foreign entities, must be enforced. Today's tour is only the beginning of the struggle, and we will bring more MKs here. The Tomb of David is a cornerstone of the city's Jewish history, we must safeguard it.”

MK Feiglin said after the tour, “The attempts to transfer sovereignty over the Tomb of David to the Vatican are a direct continuation of the transfer of sovereignty in the Temple Mount to the Jordanians. The government of Israel is buying a false calm at the price of forfeiting our most sacred sites, under cover of darkness and against the law.”

Chief Rabbi Rejects Reports Israel Giving Away King David's Tomb
Sephardi Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef says transfer request for King David's Tomb to Vatican 'never happened,' would not be considered at all.

The office of the Sephardi Chief Rabbi, the Rishon LeZion Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, utterly rejected Sunday all reports stating that Israel is considering giving away King David's Tomb to the Vatican.

Last week, MK Nissim Ze'ev (Shas) claimed in an Arutz Sheva interview that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu himself asked Rabbi Yosef about the halakhic [Jewish law] ramifications of giving away the tomb, which sits on Mount Zion in Jerusalem.

Netanyahu later rejected the claim as "baseless"; the Rabbi's office stated that no such request had been handed to them by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) at all and that any such requests would not even be investigated in principle.

Foreign Ministry officials recently claimed, once again, that a request had been submitted to the Rabbinate - amidst a flurry of tensions over the issue and several rumors stating that the land is still on the negotiating table. Rabbi Yosef's spokesman, David Amar, replied Sunday by stating that "never happened" and that "there was no appeal."

Amar added that the issue has also been discussed with Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovitch, the Western Wall Rabbi and the legal and religious authority in Israel for a number of holy sites. The Rabbi rejected the concept outright, saying it was "out of the question."

Concerns over a possible transfer of the property have been raised multiple times over the past several months. Last month, an Israeli diplomatic source told Arutz Sheva that the Israeli government has no intention of transferring control over the site to the Church.

However, Rabbi Yaakov Sevilia, an activist for King David's Tomb, told Arutz Sheva that there is a deal in the works - which would see David's Tomb given to Christians, and the Temple Mount to Muslims. He cited journalist Gulio Meotti, who contributes regularly to Arutz Sheva, as the source for this knowledge.

MK Tzipi Hotovely (Likud) has also written a stern letter to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu over the issue, noting its political significance in terms of Israel's history and heritage.

"It is inconceivable that this place will be transferred to foreign hands, such the Torahs and the Star of David will be swallowed in a sea of crosses," the Deputy Minister wrote.

''Transferring the rights to the gravesite of David to Christian hands would be similar to Moshe Dayan's decision to entrust the keys to the Temple Mount to the Jordanian Waqf."

Rabbi Simcha HaCohen Kook, Rabbi of Rehovot and member of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, warned recently that the government relinquishing David's Tomb to the Vatican would be a "national disgrace."

He added that the issue has incredible religious implications. "Who knows if this could cause a wave of conversions [to Catholicism]?" he continued. "What will happen in the World to Come when we have to testify [before G-d] and say that we lived in a generation which handed over King David's Tomb? A government who does such a thing is forbidden to belong to the people of Israel, this is an anti-Israeli government."

'I Won't Greet The Pope Till He Returns Jewish Treasure'

http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/180591

"I won't come, unless (the Pope) will bring in his suitcase the treasures of the Jewish people that were stolen by his predecessors, treasures that today are located in the Vatican's basement," remarked King.

Several treasures from the destroyed Holy Temple in Jerusalem are believed to have been brought to Rome; indeed the Arch of Titus in Rome, erected shortly after the death of Emperor Titus in 81 CE, clearly depicts Roman soldiers bringing to Rome the golden candelabrum and other Temple artifacts.

The treasures reportedly remained on public display between 75 CE and the early 5th century in the Temple of Peace in Rome's Forum. Jews have requested access to the Vatican's storehouses to ascertain whether the treasures are still there.

The councilman added "without the return of our people's possessions, I see in (the Pope's) visit an unprecedented insolence."

Report: Vatican Will Gain More Control Over King David's Tomb
Israel may not transfer the site to the Vatican outright, but it might allow more Christian control over the site. Is this a slippery slope?

Israel's envoy to the Vatican denied Wednesday that there is a deal in the works to transfer the ownership of King David's Tomb to the Church.

But Rabbi Yaakov Sevilla, an activist for King David's Tomb who has told Arutz Sheva previously that there is such a deal at play, insisted once against Wednesday that a deal is in the works - one which gives the Church more control over the site.

Rabbi Sevilla was asked to open a room at the complex recently, ahead of a conference with Tourism Minister Uzi Landau and other officials over Pope Francis's upcoming visit. The Holy See is already scheduled to hold Mass at the site during the two-day visit, in the Cenacle, or room alleged to be the site of Jesus's Last Supper, one floor above King David's Tomb.

Rabbi Sevilla opened the door and was shocked to allow multiple staffs into the room, including several representatives from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the Ministry of Tourism, security forces, and the Jerusalem municipality. Sevilla sat in the corner of the room to listen in on the hearing.

Several security members at the hearing asked him to leave, he alleged, but he managed to stay despite the pressure. The hearing discussed "clearing the air" before the Papal visit, which continues to be a source of media fascination and controversy.

To do this, Rabbi Sevilla said, the State has decided to extend the numbers of days per year that Christians can pray at the Cenacle. Currently, Catholic worshippers are allowed to hold Mass at the site one day per year. However, according to the Rabbi, the State intends to extend this to sixty.

Rabbi Sevilla objected to the measure, saying that the move could change the religious "status quo" of the site. All present at the hearing, however, insisted that the deal had already been established with the Vatican - whether or not he agreed. The agreement will reportedly be finalized after the Pope's visit - and the State has stressed emphatically that it will not renege on the terms of any agreement it has signed thus far with the Holy See.

Rabbi Sevilla noted that the deal confirms that there is not, as far as he knows, an intention to hand over the site to the Vatican - but only to give the Vatican more control over the Christian elements of the site.

However, he stressed, this is a slippery slope; the same logic was used when handing more control over the Temple Mount to the Waqf, and the move resulted in full sovereignty over Judaism's holiest site.

Rabbi Sevilla added that the Christian world has experienced a serious revival over the past several months over the Tomb, and that mass prayer rallies and demonstrations have been planned for the Cenacle to strengthen a Christian presence there.

While he obviously disagrees with this, the Rabbi also warned that this is not intended to cause discord between the Jewish and Christian communities.

"We will act peacefully - and I do not want anyone to do something extreme or terrible that could, possibly, harm Christian tourism," Rabbi Sevilla said. Besides for the loud protests which erupted at the site Monday, Rabbi Sevilla added another example: a conversation he had with a man from the North who insisted that he will start an underground resistance movement over the measure.

"The Jewish people will not forgive anyone who walks down this path," he warned.

David's Tomb Status Quo Breached by Catholic Mass Services
Footage shows David's Tomb Compound has been handed over to fixed Catholic worship, endangering Jewish prayer rights.

Contrary to Internal Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovich's promises to Internal Affairs and Environment Committee chair MK Miri Regev (Likud-Beytenu) in mid-May not to change the status quo at King David's Tomb, that status has been breached in a move endangering Jewish prayer at the holy site.

Rabbi Dvir Tal, dean of the King David Yeshiva, which is attached to the Diaspora Yeshiva on the site of the David's Tomb Compound, told Arutz Sheva about the Catholic Mass services which were conducted at the site on Sunday, and which he reports have been held weekly since Pope Francis conducted Mass at the site two weeks ago on Monday.

Video footage, courtesy of Rabbi Tal, exposes the Mass prayers held on the second floor of the David's Tomb Compound, which Christians term the "Room of the Last Supper." The rabbi reports hundreds of Christian visitors, priests, Catholic monks and nuns praying at the site, as evidenced by the film.

In another video clip filmed slightly later, police stop Rabbi Tal from entering the second floor of the Compound while the Mass prayers are in session.

The police are seen refusing Rabbi Tal's requests for an explanation as to why he is being forbidden from entering as he has done for many years on Sundays. In the clip, Christian visitors are seen entering and exiting freely, even as Jews are forbidden access.

Rabbi Tal is heard saying he's being prevented from going up because of the Mass services, which have been conducted since the Pope's visit two weeks ago.

It should be noted that the institution of regular Catholic prayers at the site constitute a severe breach of Jewish prayer rights.

Rabbi Avraham Goldstein, dean of the Diaspora Yeshiva, told Arutz Sheva in May that Jews will be prevented from entering the holy site altogether due to the Mass services, given that Jewish law forbids using a building used for idol-worship - a category which Catholic worship, with its use of effigies, falls under according to Jewish law.

Rabbi Tal reports that during the Mass service on Sunday, incense was burned, the scent of which spread throughout the Compound, engulfing the Tomb of King David on the ground floor as well. Christian visitors brought massive crosses to the prayers, and placed them in the "Room of the Last Supper" for the service.

Additional testimony was given to Arutz Sheva by Rabbi Yaakov Sevilia, an activist for King David's Tomb. Rabbi Sevilia reported that lit candles were placed in the floor of the room in the shape of a cross.

"There's a great pain here; it is hard to describe the depth of our frustration over the reality in which right above the Tomb of King David - David who every Jew is connected to and who the full redemption is dependent upon - they let idol-worship happen, which is more severe than murder and sexual indecency," said Rabbi Tal, noting Jewish law's position on the three cardinal sins.

"A gesture to the pope"

Rabbi Tal emphasized that the priests and monks at the prayers were associated with the Catholic church, as opposed to any other stream or order of Christianity. He argues that this point shows the Mass prayers indicate a gesture to the pope after his visit.

As seen in the second video above, Rabbi Tal noted that police blocked Jewish access to the Compound. Police did not respond to his requests to know why, giving him the impression that they were given orders not to speak with anyone about the new restrictions.

When he asked the officers if the Mass prayers currently being conducted were the same as those held once or twice a year, he was given to understand from their response that that was not the case.

Rabbi Tal reports that in all his years at the Compound, he has never seen Mass services held day after day as he has since the pope's visit.

Responding in prayer

Another Christian prayer service is anticipated at the site on Monday, says Rabbi Tal, noting his King David Yeshiva is preparing a prayer protest in response.

The prayer will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday; all are invited to participate. "This is the minimal thing that can be done, to pray to G-d that He will rule over us," noted the rabbi.

When asked whether the establishment of fixed Catholic prayer at the site would create a Jewish legal problem in his view, Rabbi Tal said there are opinions that Jews are forbidden to enter places that are fixed as places of idol-worship prayer, even if that was done at a later stage.

For his part, Rabbi Tal gives the opinion that the requirement to settle and conquer the land of Israel is stronger than the law forbidding entry to the site in such a case, and that it was preferable to enter than to give full control to the Church.

At the same time, Rabbi Tal emphasized that both views stem from the same concern and pain over the situation at the site, and therefore Jews should not squabble over a source of contention in Jewish law, but rather unify their opinions to defend the holy site.

"The government is to blame"

Jerusalem Councilman Aryeh King added his condemnation of the Mass prayer services on Sunday night.

Writing on Facebook, King declared: "government of Israel and members of the coalition from all the coalition parties, I accuse you of collaboration and aid in harming the holy ones of Israel, the Tomb of King David!"

King called for masses of Jews to come visit the site on Monday in a sign of protest, saying "let us return the sanctity, and by our presence and prayer on the site prevent the implementation of the current Israeli government's plan to harm the holiness of King David's Tomb."

During the pope's visit, King refused to welcome him unless he would "bring in his suitcase the treasures of the Jewish people that were stolen by his predecessors," referencing the artifacts stolen from the Second Temple by the Romans which are widely thought to be hidden in the Vatican.

It is worth noting that 41 Jews were arrested between the Saturday night and Sunday morning ahead of the pope's visit, while protesting the reported plans to let Catholics hold fixed prayers which now apparently have come to fruition.

Exclusive: Status Quo Changed at David's Tomb
Knesset Interior Committee meeting exposes hidden deal with Christians Catholics - 'soon no Jews at David's Tomb.'

In a Knesset Interior Committee meeting on Monday chaired by MK Miri Regev (Likud), it was revealed that Christians received permission to hold fixed prayers in the David's Tomb Compound, in a breach of the status quo that threatens Jewish prayer rights.

Rabbi Simcha Hacohen Kook, chief rabbi of Rehovot and rabbi of the Hurva Synagogue in Jerusalem's Old City, took part in the Committee meeting and told Arutz Sheva about the serious implications of what was revealed.

"Last Thursday the Israeli government announced there is a status quo. In practice, last Sunday they let them (the Christians) pray from 8 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon non-stop; Jews who wanted to pray there were not allowed to enter the David's Tomb Compound," revealed Rabbi Kook.

In early June, just weeks after Pope Francis visited Israel and controversially led Mass prayer services at the site, it was revealed that Christians were regularly holding fixed prayers at the Compound, in the "Room of the Last Supper" on the second floor and even in the very room of King David's Tomb marker.

The institution of regular Christian prayers at the site has been raised by rabbis as a breach that could prevent Jews from entering the holy site altogether, given that Jewish law forbids entering a Church and using a building used for idol-worship - a category which Catholic worship, with its use of effigies, falls under according to Jewish law.

"Today we are close to the situation in which no Jew will be able to enter David's Tomb. Already today there are rabbis who claim that if there's a church above it's forbidden to pray below," noted Rabbi Kook.

Rabbi Kook said Regev "reminded in the discussion that this is how it was at the Temple Mount too; at the start they let them enter and today Jews can't pray there, and while it's an issue of halakhic (Jewish legal) debate, the reality speaks for itself."

"According to the Basic Laws (of Israel) it is forbidden to change anything in holy sites, particularly if that harms another religious, and here they're bringing crosses into the tomb of King David," remarked the rabbi.

"How are we not embarrassed before King David, it's awful, what have we come to? King David who unified all of the people of Israel, and here we are disconnecting from the entire Jewish world, because if we throw King David aside like this, how can we complain about others?" reasoned Rabbi Kook.

The Committee demanded to publicly expose the entire negotiations with the church that led to the permission being granted, according to the rabbi, who added "the Committee won't let them advance any negotiations on this, unless everything will be exposed before the Committee."

"We are obligated to know every single detail that comes up in the discussion with the pope and others, we have to debate first, before it's put on the table" as established fact, argued Rabbi Kook.

It is worth noting that Internal Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovich's promised Regev in her capacity as chair of the Committee in mid-May not to change the status quo at King David's Tomb.

Vatican Officially Recognizes ‘State of Palestine’ in New Treaty

The Vatican officially recognized the state of Palestine in a new treaty finalized Wednesday, immediately sparking Israeli ire and accusations that the move hurt peace prospects.

The treaty, which concerns the activities of the Catholic Church in Palestinian territory, makes clear that the Holy See has switched its diplomatic recognition from the Palestine Liberation Organization to the state of Palestine.

The Vatican had welcomed the decision by the U.N. General Assembly in 2012 to recognize a Palestinian state. But the treaty is the first legal document negotiated between the Holy See and the Palestinian state and constitutes official diplomatic recognition.

“Yes, it’s a recognition that the state exists,” said the Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi.

The Israeli foreign ministry said it was “disappointed” by the development.

“This move does not promote the peace process and distances the Palestinian leadership from returning to direct and bilateral negotiations,” the ministry said in a text message. “Israel will study the agreement and will consider its steps accordingly.”

The treaty was finalized days before Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas visits Pope Francis at the Vatican. Abbas is heading to Rome to attend Francis’ canonization Sunday of two new saints from the Holy Land.

The Vatican has been referring unofficially to the state of Palestine for at least a year.

During Pope Francis’ 2014 visit to the Holy Land, the Vatican’s official program referred to Abbas as the president of the “state of Palestine.” In the Vatican’s latest yearbook, the Palestinian ambassador to the Holy See is listed as representing “Palestine (state of).”

The Vatican’s foreign minister, Monsignor Antoine Camilleri, acknowledged the change in status, given that the treaty was initially inked with the PLO and is now being finalized with the “state of Palestine.” But he said the shift was simply in line with the Holy See’s position.

This isn’t the first time that the Vatican under Francis has taken diplomatic moves knowing that it would ruffle feathers: Just last month, Francis referred to the slaughter of Armenians by Turkish Ottomans a century ago as a “genocide,” prompting Turkey to recall its ambassador.

Pope Francis to Canonize First 'Palestinian Saints'

Pope to canonize two Arab nuns who lived in Israel under Ottoman rule as 'Palestinian' saints in the Vatican this month.

Pope Francis is set to canonize two Arab nuns who lived in Israel during the Ottoman empire as Catholic saints, making them the first "Palestinian saints."

According to a report on Wednesday by the Lebanese LBCI News, the Marie Alphonsine Ghattas of Jerusalem and Mariam Bawardy of the Galilee will be canonized at the Vatican on May 17.

The two lived during the 19th century CE, when Israel was under Ottoman Turkish rule and was considered part of greater Syria by the empire. Despite claims to the contrary, historical records definitively show that a state of "Palestine" never existed in the region, the name being applied later in the British Mandate when the Ottoman rule was overthrown in World War One.

The Lebanese news channel showed footage of an announcement regarding the canonization later this month being made at the Christian Media Center based in Jerusalem.

According to Catholicism, canonizing a person as a saint means recognizing them as being a righteous person who is believed to be in Heaven, although there are cases where the term applies to living persons as well.

Pope Francis's recognition of "Palestinian" saints is not the first time he has stirred controversy regarding Israel.

During a visit last May, he called the Palestinian Authority (PA) the "state of Palestine."

Later in the visit he made an unexpected stop at the security barrier between Jerusalem and Bethlehem in Judea to pray at a section with "Pope we need to see someone to speak about justice. Bethlehem look (sic) like Warsaw ghetto. Free Palestine" spray-painted on it.

Vatican says Pope meant no offense calling Abbas 'angel of peace' Roll Eyes

Francis met Abbas at the Vatican on Saturday and used the words as he presented the Palestinian president with a large bronze medallion representing the angel of peace, one of his customary gifts to visiting presidents.

Pope Francis is aligning himself against Israel
5/18/15

Israel and the Jewish people should protest this measure in the strongest possible terms and make sure that Pope Francis realizes the damage he has done.

In a treaty that was finalized in Rome last week, the Catholic Church fired the latest salvo in its 2,000-year-old struggle to disenfranchise the Jewish people. Meeting with Palestinian officials at the Vatican, church officials agreed to formally recognize the “State of Palestine” as part of a deal concerning Catholic activities in the Palestinian-controlled areas.

And just in case anyone failed to get the memo, Vatican spokesman Rev. Federico Lombardi went to the trouble of going on record as saying, “Yes, it’s a recognition that the state exists.”

This outrageous step is a severe blow to Catholic- Jewish relations and it cannot go unanswered.

Israel and the Jewish people should protest this measure in the strongest possible terms and make sure that Pope Francis realizes the damage he has done.

In biblical terms, by recognizing a Palestinian state in Judea and Samaria, the Vatican is effectively seeking to deny the eternal covenant between God and the Jewish people, to whom this land was promised long ago. This is not only offensive and disrespectful, but disingenuous too. Indeed, one cannot help but wonder: what Bible is the Vatican reading? Whichever one it is, it must be missing some pages, as even a cursory glance at the Scriptures makes clear that God promised to give the Land of Israel to the Jewish people and nobody else. In fact, there are over 150 biblical verses ranging from Genesis to Joshua to Chronicles which state this and reaffirm that Israel would return from Exile to this holy soil.

Take, for example, Isaiah 14:1-2: “The Lord will have compassion on Jacob; once again He will choose Israel and will settle them in their own land.” Or how about Jeremiah 31:4, where God says: “You shall again plant vineyards upon the mountains of Samaria.” And there’s Genesis 48:3-4. And Judges 2:1, and Ezekiel 34: 11-13. And Hosea 3:4-5. And Amos 9:14-15. And Obadiah 1:17, Zephaniah 3:19-20 and Zechariah 8:7-8.

Moreover, the Bible stresses that these were not merely assurances, but a Divine oath, one that would never be broken.

“He remembers His covenant forever,” says 1 Chronicles 16:15-18, “the word He commanded for a thousand generations, the covenant He made with Abraham, the oath He swore to Isaac. He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant: ‘To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion you will inherit.’” You get the point. But it seems that the Vatican does not.

In fact, my Christian friends tell me that the words “Palestine” and “Palestinians” do not appear anywhere in the New Testament. Hence, one could argue that Jesus himself would be mystified by the pope’s position.

After all, according to Christian belief, Jesus the Jew was born and raised in Bethlehem, which means there was a Jewish community there, with synagogues, ritual baths, rabbis and perhaps a kosher deli too, centuries before Islam was even founded.

So would the Catholic Church now deem Jesus to have been a “settler” or “occupier” of Palestinian land? For an institution that bills itself as “the Holy See” and which claims to uphold sacred values, the Vatican’s profane involvement in Middle Eastern politics is simply unbecoming.

And given its sordid history of anti-Semitism, book-burnings, forced conversions and Inquisitions, the Catholic Church should think a hundred times over before daring to step on Israel’s toes.

If anything, the pope should be down on his knees pleading for forgiveness from the Jewish people and atonement from the Creator for what the Vatican has wrought over the centuries.

The current attempt to undermine and deny Israel’s right to Judea and Samaria by recognizing Palestinian statehood smacks of “supersessionism,” or replacement theology, a doctrine according to which the Church replaced Israel as God’s chosen instrument nearly two millennia ago.

Over the past 50 years, since the Second Vatican Council, the Catholic Church had slowly begun to acknowledge that the Jewish people are “a covenanted people,” thereby shifting away ever slightly from supersessionism.

But conferring legitimacy on a Palestinian state is akin to suggesting that the Palestinians have replaced Israel as the rightful owners of the land, a position that flies in the face of history, theology and common sense.

It is nothing less than supersessionism via diplomatic means, and a cruel insult to the generations of Jews who longed for Zion while enduring Catholic oppression and persecution.

Israel needs to respond to this affront forcefully. We cannot stand by and watch as our national integrity is called into question. A good place to start would be to withdraw our ambassador to the Holy See, curtail the number of visas granted to Vatican officials, and rule out any possibility of giving the Church the foothold it so sorely wants at the Tomb of King David on Mount Zion.

What a shame it is that after so much progress in Catholic- Jewish relations over the past few decades the Vatican would now betray all the headway that has been made.

But Pope Francis needs to realize that by recognizing the fictitious “State of Palestine” he is aligning himself against Israel, the Jewish people and the bible itself.

And that is something we cannot forgive, nor soon forget.
