September 24, 2017, 10:45:16 pm Psalm 51:17 says: The specific rule pertaining to the national anthem is found on pages A62-63 of the league rulebook. It states: “The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem. “During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.”

2 Peter 3:9
by tBd » 28 Nov 2010 04:44

What I will discuss today comes out of 2 Peter 3:9 but will focus on 3 sections as well which will be split into
2 Peter 3:2-8, 2 Peter 3:9 and 2 Peter 3:10-17 again with our central focus on verse 9.

Focus Verse
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Now here we have Peter reminding people that God is not slack in the promise that he has given us, as some people started to think but in his long-suffering he is waiting on final judgement out of the elect's sake. You see people are still coming to Christ and in order to agree with Scripture we have to understand that God wants all men to be saved, it is what he wills but because we have free will not all willing saved. There will always be people who deny the Gospel and those that will accept it, and it is out of that reason that Christ has not come back. Point blank: he is still using his disciples to spread his gospel, but there will come a time where the last guest is saved in God's kingdom and he will tell the bridegroom to come get his bride.(vs. 10) However until that day we are to wait and preach and there too will be those that scoff at us, now look at the first section of the text starting at verse 2

2 Peter 3:2-8 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:   Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,   And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.   For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:   Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:   But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.   But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Now, scripture gives us a reminder here (vs. 2) that we should be mindful to remember those things spoken by the prophets and the apostles concerning Christ. Those things including that he was going to come back for us, whether we b dead or alive, doesn't matter because he was going to collect us all at once.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

However we see now in verse 3, scoffers would come in notice now "walking after their own lusts" and saying what? Look in verse 4 again, they say "Where is this Christ that you preach on? Where is he at?" According to them nothing has changed since creation (vs. 4). Notice now and this is key, they are "willingly ignorant" that judgement would come by fire to those who remained ungodly (vs. 7).

Now notice that Peter is telling us to be not ignorant (vs. Cool that 1 day is as a 1000 and a 1000 is as one to God, essentially reminding us eventhough we see time moving on and Christ has not come yet be warned that God is above time, it has no affect on his operation nor bearing on wh Christ will come because when he does come it could have been 6 thousand years since Christ ascended but to God that is just a matter of days. So we are warned just because time is passing do not be ignorant and deceived into giving up hope as it is all according to God's time table and God's will not ours.

Now we quickly look back at verse 9, showing that he is not slack in his promise, as in He will come back and he will declare righteous judgement on all non believers, dead or alive doesn't matter either as with us, dead or alive we go with him, dead or alive they will face wrath of God. Now look at the last section.

2 Peter 3:10-17 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?  Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.  Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

Now we are given a great deal of information here, mainly that the Lord is coming like a thief in the night (vs. 10) showing just how sudden it will be. I don't think any other term would be a better fit because it will happen in a blink of an eye :

1 Corinthians 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

We also see the final overall judgement as well in (vs. 10 & 12). Showing that the earth and everything in it will be consumed by fire but us, as for us, we should be looking for a new heaven and new earth (vs. 13) which you can notice is called what- his promise. Also notice that the Lord's long-suffering is called what? Look at verse 15, it is called salvation because every day he waits, everyday he holds back his judgement is another day a sinner has to come to know Christ, not counting our internal time clock counting down to death of course. But according to scriptures those who are not saved find what we preach as hard understand even wrestling with it as they do with all scripture (vs. 16) we too have certain difficulty with scripture but unlike the unsaved we can have the holy spirit expand our understanding whereas they, the lost can not. This is why we are sent to preach and teach and make disciples of all nations so the sinner can learn and cometi Christ, while the Lord is giving us this window of his long-suffering.

Lastly look at the final warning again in verse 17

2 Peter 3:17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know [these things] before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

We need to be aware lest we also be led astray by the error of the wicked. In this case causing doubt on if and when Christ is coming back. Folks he is and we should be ready. Are you ready?

In Christ,
