GENESIS 12:1-3

INTRO: (Give story of President Harry Truman and President George Miles which occurred in
May of 1948). The question is: WHY SHOULD CHRISTIANS SUPPORT THE NATION OF
ISRAEL AND THE JEWISH PEOPLE? This is a very important question to consider taking
into consideration that the Jewish people have not been treated properly by many groups of
people down through the years. In fact, there have been those, who, IN THE NAME OF
CHRISTIANITY, have persecuted the Jews…THE GERMANS UNDER HITLER. In reality,
the Jewish people and the Nation of Israel are spiritual kin to Christians and any true Christian
who is living in obedience to the Word of God will CERTAINLY SUPPORT, STAND FOR
AND DEFEND them. BUT WHY? THAT IS WHAT WE SHALL CONSIDER TODAY.

A RECOGNITION: It should be noted that Friday, May 15th, 2009 was the 61st birthday of the
new Nation of Israel. CONGRATULATIONS ISRAEL!

CHRISTIANS SHOULD SUPPORT ISRAEL AND THE JEWISH PEOPLE FOR THE
FOLLOWING REASONS:
I. BECAUSE ISRAEL HAS THE PROMISED BLESSING OF GOD
Genesis 12:1-3
A. This account of scripture took place in about 1921 BC when God was calling Abram to
leave his own country of Ur of the Chaldees and actually speaks of the beginning of Israel and
the Jewish people. Following it through, it reveals that Abram is the Father of Israel through his
son Isaac.
B. In the account, there are six promises of God given to Abram that apply to the Israel and
the Jewish people. These include: 1) A Great Nation (Israel), 2) A Personal Blessing, 3) A Great
Name, 4) A Blessing to others, 5) A Divine Protection, 6) A Continual World-Wide Blessing.
C. The text is still applicable. GOD BLESSES THOSE WHO BLESS ISRAEL AND GOD
WILL CURSE THOSE WHO WILL CURSE ISRAEL.
II. BECAUSE ISRAEL IS THE CHOSEN PEOPLE OF GOD
Deuteronomy 7:6-8
A. Israel and the Jewish people are a “special people” unto God and he chose them because
He loves them.
B. No other nation on the earth has this distinction!
C. The text is very applicable: THOSE WHO SUPPORT GOD’S CHOSEN PEOPLE,
ISRAEL, WILL BE IN TURN REWARDED BY GOD.. Joel 3:2; Matthew 25:31-46

III. BECAUSE ISRAEL PRODUCED THE HUMAN LINAGE OF CHRIST.
Matthew 1:1-17
A. This account is the proof of the fulfillment of Genesis 12:1-3. God blessed the whole
world through Israel because Jesus Christ was a Jew by human birth.
B. When Christ came into the world, as a Jew, He went first to the Jewish people who
rejected Him. Note: John 1:11,12; Romans 1:16
C. The text is very applicable today: THOSE WHO ACCEPT CHRIST WILL ACCEPT
ISRAEL AND THE JEWISH PEOPLE.
IV. BECAUSE ISRAEL HAS A GREAT FUTURE GUARANTEED BY GOD
Romans 11:25-27
A. This account of scripture shows that Israel and the Jewish people are now, in this
dispensation, in spiritual blindness because they rejected Christ as their Messiah. During this
time, God is calling out His church mainly from the Gentiles. (There are some Jews being saved,
however).
B. The account teaches that when the last Gentile is saved, who will be saved, then ISRAEL
AS A NATION WILL BE SAVED.
C. This account is very applicable to us today: THOUGH THEY DO NOT REALIZE IT
NOW, ISRAEL IS SPIRITUALLY BLINDED SO THAT WE AS GENTILES CAN BE
SAVED! BUT THE BEST BLESSING FOR ISRAEL IS YET TO COME!
V. BECAUSE ISRAEL DESERVES THE RESPECT OF THE WORLD
Romans 15:25-27
A. This account shows how Paul is going to go to Jerusalem to provide for the poor Jews by
giving them an offering taken on their behalf by those in Greece.
B. The phrase, “THEIR DEBTORS THEY ARE,” in verse 27 is very significant. The Greeks
realized they were DEBTORS to the Jews because Christianity came to them through Jews…1)
Christ, 2) Paul. Because of that, they were going to minister to the material needs of the Jews.
C. This account is very applicable to us today: BECAUSE CHRISTIANITY CAME
THROUGH CHRIST AS A JEW, WE SHOULD IN TURN DO ALL WE CAN AS
CHRISTIANS TO STAND WITH AND SUPPORT ISRAEL AND THE JEWISH PEOPLE.
