Egyptians call for Sharia Law, Islamic caliphate
Sunday, July 31, 2011 | Ryan Jones
Tens, and perhaps hundreds of thousands of Egyptians poured into Cairo's now-famed Tahrir Square on Friday to demand their nation become subject to Sharia Law and form the cornerstone for a new Islamic caliphate.

The unplanned demonstration erupted following Friday prayers at mosques around the Egyptian capital.

The demonstrators, who were led by the increasingly powerful Muslim Brotherhood, demanded that Egypt's interim military regime give way to an intolerant Islamic dictatorship.

Various news media reported the demonstrators shouting and holding up signs reading: "Egypt will return to Sharia Law!", "Liberals and secularists are the enemies of Allah!", and "The solution is Islam!"

When Egyptians ousted former dictator Hosni Mubarak in February, the international media made much of how conservative Muslims, Coptic Christians and Egyptian secularists worked together for the common goal of democratic freedom.

The prevailing assumption was that Egypt would serve as a model of how a diverse, but tolerant Middle East society could throw off the shackles of dictatorial oppression and build something better.

But Egyptian commentators are now saying that what is happening in their country more closely resembles the Iranian revolution.

In 1979, a broad coalition of Iranians overthrew the dictatorial regime of Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi. The shah was briefly replaced by a secular, democratic government. But Islamists quickly hijacked the revolution, and Iran today is ruled by a religious council and is subject to the strictest interpretation of Sharia Law.

What is happening in Egypt now "is a lot like Iran, and it's only going to get worse," Saeed Rahnema, a pro-democracy demonstrator in Iran in the late 1970s and now a professor at York University in Toronto, told Canada's The Globe and Mail.

Egypt's one hope at this point is that the Muslim Brotherhood and the Islamist movement currently lacks a charismatic leader like the Iranians had in Ayatollah Khomeini.

But such a figure can rise quickly in this region. And even if he does not, the fear that the Islamists are sowing in their fellow Egyptians is all but guaranteeing that even a democratically elected Egyptian government will be dominated by Muslim fundamentalists.

Meanwhile, tensions between Israel and post-revolution Egypt are again rising after Muslim gunmen bombed the Sinai natural gas pipeline on Saturday, the fifth such attack since Mubarak's ouster.

The pipeline had already been turned off while work was being done to repair damage from the previous bombing earlier in the month. Israel receives about 40 percent of its natural gas from that pipeline, and having it out of order is setting the stage for an energy cost crisis in the Jewish state.

The latest pipeline attack has reignited the debate over whether or not Israel should continue to purchase natural gas from Egypt, considering that the Jewish state has recently discovered its own massive reserves.

Israel buys natural gas from Egypt as part of the Camp David Accords that brought peace between the two nations. But Israeli energy experts say it can no longer be seen as a reliable source of energy.

Israel's own offshore gas reserves are actually larger than Egypt's, and could easily supply the nation's needs. But making such a switch is certain to put the kind of economic pressure on Egypt that could lead to an outbreak of hostilities.

'Exterminate Christians, close pyramids, Sphinx'
Rising leader in Egypt has astonishing plans

A rising leader in the radical Islamic movement in Egypt that has become a major political player since the demise of Hosni Mubarak's regime says Christian churches may need to be blown up and Christians exterminated to allow the advance of Islamic law, or Shariah.

The comments come from Sheik 'Adel Shehato, a senior leader with the Egyptian Islamic Jihad terrorist group. The sheik was jailed in 1991 because of his positions but was released earlier this year in the revolution that removed Mubarak from power.

His interview with the Egyptian daily Roz Al-Yousef was translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute.

The sheik, a senior jihadist leader, responded to a question about using violence against Christians, who make up a substantial minority in Egypt.

"Are you against blowing up churches?" the newspaper interviewer asked Shehato.

"Yes and no," he replied. "The Christian is free to worship his God in his church, but if the Christians make problems for the Muslims, I will exterminate them. I am guided by the Shariah, and it stipulates that they must pay the jizya tax while in a state of humiliation."

"These positions of yours frighten us, as Egyptians," the interviewer said.

"I will not act [in ways] that contradict my faith just in order to please the people. ... We say to the Christians, convert to Islam or pay the jizya, otherwise we will fight you. The Shariah is not based on logic but on divine law. That is why we oppose universal, manmade constitutions."

'Arab Spring' hoists flag of Islamists
Militants more and more seeking to influence uprising outcomes

The "Arab Spring" movement, which has swept through the Middle East and across North Africa, overturning 30 years of autocratic rule in some nations, is the beginning of what observers now are calling the "Islamic Awakening," according to a report in Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.

Already, Turkey and Iran are seeking to influence the uprisings, with Turkey wanting more secular Muslim governments while Iran wants governments ruled under Islamic law, or Shariah, much as the Islamic republic is now.

The meeting of the First International Islamic Awakening Conference held in Tehran last week served as a "strategic charter" for the Islamic states.

The initiative is seen as a bid to "hoist the flag of Islam and fight back the U.S. hegemony and the Zionist regime (Israel)," according to Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, who gave the keynote address.

Since the beginning of this year, the Muslim world has seen popular uprisings beginning with Tunisia with the overthrow of President Zine El Abidne Ben Ali, then followed in Egypt by the toppling of President Hosni Mubarak.

Demonstrations against autocratic rulers continue in Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Syria, Yemen and Saudi Arabia – all countries which the U.S. has supported over the past 40 years.

Khamenei warned that the West will continue its "hegemony over the countries using the power leverage," he said. "In case enemies fail in their tactics, they will try to foment internal war among the tribes, races and parties and pressure countries by imposing economic sanctions and blocking their assets."

Sources say that it was due to the wave of events surrounding the Arab Spring that the Palestinians decided now to press for a seat in the United Nations.

Despite Turkey's falling out with Israel, a further symptom of increasing Islamic influence in the wake of the Arab Spring was the sharp rebuke that leaders of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood gave to the suggestion by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for Egypt to adopt a "secular state."

Such a rebuke not only shows how the Islamic influence has gripped those seeking change from their previous secular rulers. It also displays the limits of what the U.S. had hoped would be greater Turkish influence over the Arab world's Islamists.

'Arab Spring' actually 'Islamic tsunami'

A U.S.-born Israeli author and expert on the Middle East says the recent massacre of Christians in Egypt illustrates that the so-called "Arab Spring" has actually become an "Islamic tsunami."

When Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was toppled from office after nearly three decades of power, most of the world celebrated the seemingly pro-democracy movement sweeping through the Middle East.

But now, vivid video of armored vehicles has been released, showing Coptic Christians being mowed down in the streets of Cairo for protesting their persecution at the hands of the Islamists, who now control Egypt.

David Rubin, author of The Islamic Tsunami: Israel and America in the Age of Obama, suggest the transition from spring to tsunami did not happen overnight.

"The 'Arab Spring' was never an Arab spring; it was always an Islamic tsunami," he contends. "You look at Egypt today and you see that the Christians of Egypt are terrified. There were rumors that the Christians in Egypt were going to be building -- horror of horrors -- a church, and the Muslims went absolutely berserk. They started rioting and threatening the Christians and attacking them in the streets. And eventually, the Egyptian military government sent in the army and the Egyptian police, and they mowed down protesters and killed 24 Christians."

Rubin concludes that Egypt is not a safe place to be right now, especially for Christians.

Sudan President Vows New All-Islamic Constitution, Shariah-Based Legislation

Sudan plans to move forward with an all-Islamic constitution and a legal system governed by Shariah law, the country’s president said Wednesday.

The announcement comes three months after neighboring South Sudan, largely Christian, declared its independence and split off from the predominantly Muslim north. Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir had said in December that his country would adopt an Islamic constitution if the south made such a move, Reuters reported, though many hoped he would not go through with it.

“Ninety eight percent of the people are Muslims and the new constitution will reflect this. The official religion will be Islam and Islamic law the main source [of the constitution],” Bashir said in a speech to students in Khartoum. “We call it a Muslim state.”

A 2005 peace deal between the warring sides limited Islamic law to the north and recognized “the cultural and social diversity of the Sudanese people,” according to Reuters. Bashir’s comments will lead to further uncertainty for the one million southerners who still live in the north and are legally considered foreigners. They have been given until the spring to either leave or apply to legally stay in the country.

According to RFI, Reverend Ramadan Chan Liol, general secretary of the Sudan Council of Churches, said Sudan must recognise religious diversity and should explicitly protect the non-Muslim minority in the north. He added he was surprised to hear Bashir’s claim that 98 percent of the northern population is Muslim because the Sudanese census does not ask citizens to state their religion.

Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court for charges of war crimes in Darfur.

Tunisia votes in historic free election

More than 90% of registered voters have turned out to cast their ballot in Tunisia's election, the first free poll of the Arab Spring, officials say.

Tunisians are electing a 217-seat assembly that will draft a constitution and appoint an interim government.

Former President Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali was overthrown nine months ago after mass demonstrations.

Islamist party Ennahda is expected to win the most votes, though it is not clear if it will gain a majority.

Mr Ben Ali fled Tunisia on 14 January amid the first of several mass uprisings across the Arab world.

Campaigning in Tunisia has been marked by concerns over splits between Islamists and secularists, party funding and voter apathy.

Islamic Caliphate Closer than Ever?

Tunisia's Islamist Ennahda party is claiming victory in the nation's first elections since the Arab Spring uprisings.

"This is an historic moment," Zeinab Omri, a young woman in a hijab, or Islamic head scarf, outside the Ennahda headquarters told Reuters.

"No one can doubt this result. This result shows very clearly that the Tunisian people is a people attached to its Islamic identity," she said.

As the Islamic party prepares to lead a coalition government, many fear they will overturn Tunisia's progressive legislation on women and families in favor of Sharia law.

CBN Terrorism Analyst Erick Stakelbeck said an Islamic party victory and Libya's embrace of Islamic Sharia law mark a turning point in the region.

Egypt heading toward Shariah standard
Report documents growth of influence by Muslim Brotherhood

The Muslim Brotherhood, which initially sought to allay fears Egypt would adopt radical Islam after the fall of President Hosni Mubarak, has reversed course and now is "working to maximize its achievements in the upcoming elections," according to a report from the Middle East Media Research Institute.

And raising alarms for many, according to the Islamic group's platform, it is deriving its "source of authority" from Islamic religious law, or Shariah, arguing that the majority of Egyptians favor it.

The aftermath of the revolution in Egypt has turned violent in recent weeks, with 25 Christians being killed just last month in growing conflicts between majority Muslims who are increasingly demanding imposition of strict Shariah and minority Christians who have lived in the region for centuries.

The Muslim Brotherhood platform "adds that non-Muslims have the right to follow their own religious laws in matters of faith, worship, and personal status whenever these laws differ from those of the Shariah, but should be judged according to the Muslim principles of justice and equality in all other domains of life," the MEMRI report explains.

Islamic religious law controls not only religious activity but the secular, social and political realms. It is the law that calls for the execution of Muslims who leave Islam, the amputation of the hands of thieves and for women who are raped to have male witnesses confirm their allegations.

The Brotherhood platform states further that the aims of Shariah "must inform Egypt's priorities, goals, policies, and strategies and must form the basis of the cultural principles of both Muslims and non-Muslims," the MEMRI report said.

Sharia the goal in Nigeria

As Nigeria's government reels from more deadly attacks by a terrorist group, one international ministry is calling on the Body of Christ to respond.

The violence was directed at churches, police stations, and mosques in northern Nigeria. Jonathan Racho of International Christian Concern (ICC) tells OneNewsNow a terrorist group known as Boko Haram is taking credit for killing at least 150 people.

"The Islamic group has repeatedly said that it wants to establish a new Nigeria, where a strict version of sharia law will be the law of the land," he reports.

Yobe State Police Commissioner Suleiman Lawal estimates that 53 people have been killed there so far.

"In another state, the state of Kaduna, Muslim radicals killed three Christian worshipers as they were attending a prayer," Racho adds.

Meanwhile, suspected members of a radical Muslim group attacked a church compound in Kenya, killing two Christians.

"The Ethiopian officials have announced that Wahhabi Muslims, the radical Islamic group who are funded by Saudi Arabia, are threatening the nation's security because they want to introduce sharia law," the ICC spokesman notes. But he hopes the Body of Christ will remember to pray for Africa, which has become a hotbed for radical Islam.

Egypt Islamists plan mass rally against charter

Egyptian Islamists will hold a mass rally on Friday to protest a government draft of a basic constitution they say should be left to an elected parliament, a leading Islamist group announced on Wednesday.

The Muslim Brotherhood, the country's best organised movement, said on its website it would hold the rally after the government went ahead with its plan to draft overarching constitutional principles.

The principles, which would bind a panel appointed by parliament that Islamists hope to dominate, were demanded by liberal and secular groups. A three-stage parliamentary election will start on November 28.

The government's draft drew fire from most quarters for including clauses that removed the ruling military's budget from parliamentary oversight and allowed the military final say on military-related laws.

Here's the thought I've been having on Islam...

While it is obvious that Islam is making an effort to expand, and it is only a portion of "Islam" that is really active and at at times militant, the world is still the world, and the one who rules this world demands the same allegience of the whole world, no just non-Muslim countries.

I just don't believe that Islam is the coming "world relgion" at all. Islam WILL be forced to bow to the enemy, just like all other wordly religions. They will continue to spread no doubt, but they will in the end have to abide by the demands of the world, so they will get their ways only so far before I think the world will force them to comply.

I agree. Islam will not run the show. We know whoever the antichrist turns out to be he will bridge the gap between all of the world religions. If Islam is a creation of the catholic church you'd think they would surly have plans to  direct and conform Islam to fit their agenda.  Satan is the true puppet master and he is working all of these evils together. No one group is or will ever be in complete control until the antichrist system is in full bloom and  it will incorporate all of them and not be limited to Islam or the Catholic Church.

FWIW, don't ALL "religions" have *a* Christ in their teachings? Islam has the prophet Isa, the New Age movement has Maitreya "the christ", Buddhism I believe has a Jesus(not the Jesus Christ of the bible, of course), Catholicism has Jesus(but they worship Mary instead), Mormonism has a Jesus(and they believe he and lucifer were brothers), the list goes on.

Also, it's not only Islam that preaches violence - even New Agers themselves like Leonard Sweet and Rick Warren have admitted that people who don't buy into their beliefs should die. Buddhism is starting to show its true colors in recent years(one CNN report had them raging in violence), and don't they have the swaztica symbol like the n@zis did? The list goes on.

Yeah, interesting that pretty much all these "religions" have *a* Christ...to the point where when the man of sin gets revealed, potentially a fake Jesus-looking figure could appear, which is where all these "religions" will ultimately get deceived.

Not sure, but I think so. I know Hinduism has had it in their religion for centuries. The Nazis didn't come up with it for sure. They stole it. Now that said, I think the difference actually is that one is opposite direction of the others, meaning the "L" shape goes one way, and the Hindus show it the opposite direction, like it's reversed.

Horrifying video and images are emerging of Egyptian security forces beating protesters in Cairo, as reports of military units firing into the crowds continue to spread.

One such video, posted online this afternoon, is below. It's jarring. Watch at your own risk.

Military police are using "rubber bullets, truncheons and tear gas," Matt Bradley and Tamer El-Ghobashy write for The Wall Street Journal, from Cairo. Protesters have responded by continuing their occupation of Tahrir Square and calls for the military council that has ruled the country since Hosni Mubarak was toppled to step aside. Protesters have set fires and thrown rocks and Molotov cocktails at the security forces in an ongoing battle that's now in its second night.

Islamists claim win in Morocco polls

Morocco's moderate Islamist party, the PJD, claimed victory in a widely watched, Arab Spring-inspired national election, as initial results showed it ahead of rivals. Though religion-based, the Islamists say they have a progressive agenda and vow not to be overly conservative. Official results are still awaited and Prime Minister Abbas El Fassi's-right Independence party and the Coalition for Democracy, an eight-party pro-monarchy bloc, could throw up unexpected surprises.

Responding to Arab Spring protests in July, Morocco's king Mohammed VI ceded some of his royal powers to Parliament under a reformed constitution. With a remarkably open society and commitment to reforms, Morocco offers a model for many Arab nations where dictators are ruthlessly crushing rebellions, analysts say.

The Islamists' performance in Morocco, after Tunisia, show that democracy-embracing Arab masses prefer the Islamists to deliver the goods. Many expect the PJD to be a front-runner mainly because of its anti-corruption crusade.

Mask of Peace: Brotherhood's Plot for Global Rule

so-called Arab Spring has brought the Muslim Brotherhood to the threshold of power and influence in the Middle East.

But a Norwegian television documentary, called "Freedom, Equality and the Muslim Brotherhood," is unmasking the Muslim Brotherhood's plans for world domination.

Walid al-Kubaisi, an Iraqi-born Norwegian journalist, produced and hosted the documentary for Norway television. It has never been shown on American TV.

World Domination

Al-Kubaisi said Brotherhood leaders told him they have a plan to take over Norway and the rest of Europe as a part of bringing the whole world under Islam.

"The Muslim Brotherhood has a practice. The have learned to speak with two tongues," he told CBN News.

Kamil al-Najjar, one of the film's subjects, left the Muslim Brotherhood and consequently is under threat of death.

"They're trying to deceive the people," al-Najjar tells al-Kubaisi in the film. "They have managed to deceive a lot of Western politicians into believing them."

"Their only aim is to control the world with Islam," he said. "They know they cannot use force to convert the West, so they use deceit."

However, Muslim Brotherhood leaders are quite open about their intentions with those like al-Kubaisi, who traveled to the Middle East and speaks fluent Arabic.

"The Muslim Brotherhood's dream is to form a total Islamic state," Muhammed Mahdi Akef, who was the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood until 2010, told al-Kubaisi.

"Where?" al-Kubaisi asked.

"I don't know," Akef replied. "We Muslims are currently scattered all over. There is still a long way to go before we are able to take control in Europe. It will take a long time before it can happen."

Religion of Bondage

Al-Kubaisi also interviewed Gamal al-Banna, the brother of Hassan al-Banna, the man who founded of the Muslim Brotherhood in 1928.

Al-Banna had surprisingly harsh words for the modern Muslims Brotherhood movement, saying it does not believe in freedom "in any way."

"They do not believe in freedom at all," he said. "There is no Islamic authority that respects freedom or democracy."

Al-Banna also condemned the state of modern Islamic culture.

"The Muslim mind is rusty. It has done nothing for the last 1,000 years. One thousand years ago the innovation ended," he told Al-Kubaisi.

"What does that mean? It means that you act without thinking," Al-Banna explained.

Social Control

Al-Banna said the Muslim Brotherhood has instituted the wearing of the hijab, or headscarf, by Muslim women as a means of social control.

But it is not supported by the Koran - even the sister of the Muslim Brotherhood founder did not wear a hijab.

In al-Kubaisi's documentary, class photos from Cairo University show the evolution of the Muslim Brotherhood's program to force women to wear the hijab.

In the 1959 class photo, there are no Muslim women are wearing the hijab. None are wearing the garment in the 1979 photo either.

In the 2004 class photo, 90 percent of the women are wearing the head scarf.

The hijab has been called the Muslim Brotherhood's "logo."

Mask of Civility

Al-Kubaisi saId Norway and the West have been duped by the Muslim Brotherhood.

"The West and America both supported Islamists, and they thought, 'They're religious exactly Christian congregations,'" al-Kubaisi told CBN News.

But one of the Muslim Brotherhood's key spiritual leaders, Sheik Yusef al-Qaradawi, said on Arabic TV that "defeating Rome, Italy and Europe means that Islam will come back to Europe."

"Must this victory necessarily be won by war? No," the leader said. "I believe Islam will conquer Europe without using violence."

"The Muslim Brotherhood, it's not like, 'We will take over the world and the power," Al-Kubaisi told CBN News.

"No, no, it's not like this," he explained. "They don't speak about power at all. No, they say, 'Now, we want only this, and then this, and then this'...and then they start to work to gain more power.

Moderate Islamist Party to Lead Coalition Government in Morocco

A moderate Islamist party achieved major gains in Morocco’s parliamentary election, according to final returns announced by the government on Sunday, giving it the right to lead a coalition government. King Mohammed VI is now expected to choose a prime minister from the party, Justice and Development.

The election on Friday was the first under a new Constitution, which the king drafted in response to calls for more democracy inspired by the Arab Spring revolts.

The Constitution reserves important powers for the king, including in military and religious matters, and does not establish the kind of constitutional monarchy demanded by the protesters. But the government will be Morocco’s first popularly elected one, with the power to appoint ministers and dissolve Parliament.

In Tunisia last month, voters also elected a moderate Islamist party, Ennahda, in that country’s first free election.

Well, let's see, so far it's been...

Iraq
Egypt
Lybia
and a couple of African countries

Now on the list it seems...

Pakistan
Syria
Morocco
Kuwait
Somolia
Nigeria

And these are just active targets. They have a few more they are pressuring, like North Korea and Iran.

Yet Communist China? Not a peep. It's all about the love of money, seeing China is a huge creditor.

Go figure, an anti-free market, anti-capitalist country is funding capitalism!  Roll Eyes

International Christian Concern's Middle East specialist Aidan Clay agrees and says that Tunisia's election result has blunted Christian hope for reform in the Middle East.

"Widely seen as the most secular country of those inflamed in revolutions that deposed long-standing leaders, many believed that Tunisia had the greatest opportunity to elect a moderate government concerned with democratic principles," Clay said. "However, the hopes of many Christians were dashed last month when the Islamist Ennahda party won 41 percent of the votes for a national constitutional assembly, a one-year body charged with writing a constitution and appointing an interim president."

Clay says that Ennahda Party leader Rashid Ghannouchi's public statements have further eroded hope that Tunisia might remain a moderate Arab country.

"Ennahda had been outlawed under former President Zine El Abedine Ben Ali on the grounds that it was planning an Islamist takeover of the country. Rashid Ghannouchi, the party's chairman, once described himself as the pupil of Iranian Ayatollah Khomeini and defended the takeover of the U.S. embassy in Tehran in 1979," Clay said.

He continued, "In a speech given in Khartoum in 1990 just before war erupted in Kuwait, [Ghannouchi] said, 'We must wage unceasing war against the Americans until they leave the land of Islam, or we will burn and destroy all their interests across the entire Islamic world.'"

Clay added, "In 2001, [Ghannouchi] extolled Palestinian suicide bombers and advocated anti-American violence on an Al-Jazeera broadcast. He also said, 'The greatest danger to civilization, religion and world peace is the United States administration. It is the Great Satan.'"

Clay says Tunisia's new leadership is fully committed to Islam, Shariah and a return of the Islamic Caliphate. He says the new constitution will likely reflect that desire.

"Similar to what will occur in Egypt, Tunisia's elected assembly will soon draft a new constitution. There is grave fear that the constitution will be centered on Islamic Shariah law," Clay said.

"According to Larbi Sadiki, who hosted Ghannouchi during his 22-year exile in London during Ben Ali's rule, 'Ghannouchi's only condition for Muslim democracy to flourish is the sharing of the immutable principles of Islam as a shared set of values,'" Clay said.

"Hamadi Jebali, the newly appointed Prime Minister with the Ennahda Party, raised more eyebrows in mid-November when he implied that he sought a return of the Muslim caliphate. He further stated, 'The liberation of Tunisia will, God willing, bring about the liberation of Jerusalem.' Secularists in Tunisia were agitated to say the least," Clay said.

Lopez says those statements from Tunisia's new leaders are evidence that Tunisia was simply the first ripple of a jihad tsunami.

"Elections now unfolding are certifying what anyone with two grey cells to rub together knew months ago: The forces of Islam, al-Qaida and the Muslim Brotherhood in the lead will take over North Africa. They will impose Shariah (Islamic law) to the broad majority approval of their devout Muslim populations," Lopez said.

Brotherhood's 'Lenin' Plotting Islamic Super-State

Quote
Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi has been called the most influential Islamic cleric in the world.

During the past year, he's used his clout to promote the so-called Arab Spring.

For al-Qaradawi, the rise of radical Islamic governments across the Middle East and North Africa means a giant step towards his vision of a united Islamic super-state -- or caliphate -- governed by Sharia law.

The 86-year-old Egyptian native pushes this agenda through his website, IslamOnline, and his top-rated Al-Jazeera program, titled "Sharia and Life," which reaches tens of millions of Muslims each week.

"Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi is more than just an ideologue. He is also a strategist," Middle East expert Walid Phares told CBN News.

Phares, author of the book The Coming Revolution, said al-Qaradawi sets the tone for the Muslim Brotherhood worldwide.

"We're talking about a Lenin here -- a jihadi Lenin who controls the flow of the ideology but also gives the nod with regards to general strategic direction," Phares said.

"He's the mentor today for the Muslim Brotherhood," he added. "And the MB's today are about to take over in at least three to four countries in the Middle East. "

Just one week after protests forced Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak out of power, al-Qaradawi returned to his homeland following a 30-year exile.

He led Friday prayers for a crowd of more than 1 million in Cairo's Tahrir Square, where he called for Muslims to re-conquer Jerusalem.

Phares compared it to the Ayatollah Khomenei's return to Iran in 1979.

"Qaradawi came to Egypt to change the Arab Spring into a Caliphate Spring," Phares told CBN News.

Al-Qaradawi's fatwas, or religious rulings, have endorsed the killing of U.S. troops in Iraq and suicide bombings against Israeli civilians.

He has shown a special animosity towards Jews, and not just those living in Israel.

During a 2009 sermon he raged, "Oh Allah, take this oppressive, Jewish, Zionist band of people...Do not spare a single one of them...Count their numbers, and kill them, down to the very last one."

Egyptian dissident Cynthia Farahat of the Center for Security Policy in Washington, D.C., told CBN News that Westerners who call al-Qaradawi a moderate ignore his words.

"Genocide. That's the main message: genocide," Farahat said.

"He (Al-Qaradawi) went as far as saying he wants to kill Jews with his own hands, with his own bare hands while sitting on his wheelchair," she said.

Yet according to a recent report in The Hindu, one of India's largest daily newspapers, the Obama administration is using al-Qaradawi as a mediator in secret negotiations between the U.S. and the Taliban.

An Obama administration official told CBN News the report is "not accurate."

The administration has acknowledged, however, that it is engaged in dialogue with the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist parties.

Al-Qaradawi has ambitions beyond the Middle East. He said Muslims will one day conquer America and Europe as well -- not overnight, but gradually, through immigration and proselytizing.

Planning For Islamic Caliphate To Begin

A senior fellow for a Madrid-based think tank is alerting freedom-loving people about a caliphate-planning conference being held by Muslims soon, a move he said was given a boost of support by the Obama administration recently when it allowed a three-day “Istanbul Process” conference in Washington. That event, writes Soeren Kern, Senior Fellow for European Politics at Madrid’s Grupo de Estudio, “gave the [Organization of Islamic Cooperation] the political legitimacy it has been seeking to globalize its initiative to ban criticism of Islam.”

The coming event, Caliphate Conference 2012, is being organized by Hizb ut-Tahrir, which Kern describes as a “pan-Islamic extremist group that seeks to establish a global Islamic state, or caliphate, ruled by Islamic Shariah law.”

Muslim Brotherhood Party Comes to Libya

Just as the Arab Spring brought the Muslim Brotherhood into governments in Egypt and Tunisia, it has now brought its new party to Libya.

The Arab Spring brought the Muslim Brotherhood into the government in Egypt and Tunisia, and the Brotherhood has now unveiled its new party in Libya.

As in other countries where the movement had for decades been repressed, the newly-created Al-Adala'a Wa Al-Beena (Justice and Development Party) will be led by a former political prisoner. Mohamed Hassan Sowan spent eight years in jail under the regime of former dictator Muammar Qaddafi, who was killed after being captured by the rebels who eventually became the country's new rulers last November. He was freed in 2006.

The announcement was made Saturday, despite the absence of laws that specify a formal process for the establishment of political parties. Brotherhood spokesman Mohamed Ga'air said more than 1,400 members attended a meeting in Tripoli on Friday to declare the formation of the party, and chose Sowan, a native of Misrata.

As in many of the other Arab nations in which governments were toppled during last year's Arab Spring uprising, the Muslim Brotherhood is considered the most organized movement in Libya, in existence there since 1949, and the one with the widest nationwide support.

Jordan On The Brink: Muslim Brothers Mobilize For Abdullah’s Overthrow

Jordan’s Muslim Brotherhood has given King Abdullah II notice that he has until October to bow to their demand to transform the Hashemite Kingdom into a constitutional monarchy or face Arab Spring street pressure for his abdication. debkafile’s Middle East sources report that Israeli and Saudi intelligence watchers are becoming increasingly concerned about the approaching climax of the conflict in Amman between Islamists and the throne . For Israel, an upheaval in Jordan bodes the tightening of the Islamist noose around its borders – Egypt and Libya to the south and Syria to the north, with unpredictable consequences with regard to Jordan’s Palestinian population. Saudi Arabia, already threatened by Iranian aggression, fears the oil kingdom may be next in line if its northern neighbor is crushed under the marching feet of the “Arab Spring.”

Huge blaze out of control in Tripoli battle as Libya slides into chaos
7/28/14

TRIPOLI (Reuters) - A huge fuel depot in Libya's capital burned out of control on Monday, set ablaze in fighting between rival militias that has driven the country to chaos three years after the NATO-backed revolt that toppled Muammar Gaddafi.

Combat over control of the nearby airport forced firefighters to withdraw, abandoning their attempts to extinguish the blaze ignited by a missile strike that hit millions of litres of fuel.

Foreign governments have looked on powerless as anarchy sweeps across the North African oil producer. Western countries have urged their nationals to leave, shut their embassies and pulled diplomats out, after two weeks of clashes among rival factions of former rebels killed nearly 160 people in Tripoli and the eastern city of Benghazi.
