I didn't think about it after watching this 10 minute clip, but this thought just hit me now(a few hours later) - about the Iran nuke deal he talked about...where do you think Syria/Damascus will come into play?

Maybe at some point, while Iran finally implements firing off their nukes, and something goes wrong from there...and...Isaiah 17:1-3?

If the Isaiah 17:1-3 prophecy happens BEFORE the ToJT period, then there's absolutely NO excuse for Christians to turn a blind eye to end times prophecies going on now.

Moscow admits Russian military experts on the ground in Syria

Russia's Foreign Ministry disclosed early Wednesday that Russian military experts are assisting forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in that country's long-running civil war.

The statement by Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova to Reuters marks the first confirmation from Moscow that members of the Russian military are on the ground in Syria after weeks of reports that Russia had stepped up its support for the embattled Assad regime.

Zakharova said the advisers were assisting with Russian arms deliveries to Syrian government forces, which Moscow says are aimed at fighting Islamist militants. The spokeswoman did not give a precise number of Russian military personnel in Syria.

The disclosure comes as U.S. officials have expressed increasing concern about the number of Russian military cargo flights to Syria. Secretary of State John Kerry called his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov over the weekend to voice "concerns" about the "imminent" buildup of Russian military forces there.

Multiple U.S. officials who have reviewed the latest intelligence in Syria told Fox News Tuesday that the U.S. military was tracking multiple flights of Russia's largest military cargo plane, the Antonov An-124 Ruslan -- better known by its NATO codename, "Condor."

Notably, the "Condor" made one flight Tuesday morning into Latakia, a Syrian port city along the Mediterranean Sea controlled by the Assad regime and home to Russian military forces.

The flights marked the first time in months the U.S. military had seen flights of the large Russian transport planes, one official said, calling this development "very troubling."

Last week, the Times of London reported that video shot near Latakia and shown on Syrian state TV showed Syrian government troops supported by a Russian armored vehicle. Russian-speaking voices were also heard in the background of the footage.

On Wednesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry also accused the U.S. of "international boorishness" over Washington's requests to Greece and Bulgaria to deny the cargo flights the use of those countries' airspace. Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry has refused to allow Russian military aircraft to fly over its territory until Sept. 24 at the earliest. On Monday, Greek Foreign Ministry spokesman Constantinos Koutras said Athens was examining a similar request from the U.S.

In a statement released Saturday after Kerry's call with Lavrov, the State Department warned that Russia's continued actions could "further escalate the conflict" and "risk confrontation with the anti-ISIL Coalition operating in Syria."

The statement appeared to mark a change in policy from last week when the Pentagon and State Department initially welcomed Russia's increased involvement in Syria.

Vladimir Putin's government is aligned with Assad, whom the Obama administration wants out of power. But the administration also is boosting local forces fighting the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), and initially cast the stepped-up Russian involvement as contributing toward that anti-ISIS effort.

"We would welcome anyone who wants to help in the coalition against ISIL," Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook said last Thursday, using another acronym for the terror group.

"There's a 37-some-odd-country coalition that's taking the fight to ISIL. We would welcome Russia to be more involved in that effort," State Department spokesman Mark Toner also said.

The statement following the Kerry-Lavrov call, though, indicates the Obama administration now worries Russia's involvement could make the situation worse.

Lavrov later remarked that Russia has been continuously supplying military equipment to Syria. He said Moscow "has never concealed that it delivers military equipment to official Syrian authorities with the aim of combating terrorism," according to Reuters.

Putin is expected to attend the U.N. General Assembly for the first time in 10 years later this month in New York.

Russia Says it Will Continue to Support Assad
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reiterates his country will continue to support its Syrian ally.

The Syrian army could be a crucial force in fight against the Islamic State (ISIS) group, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday, reiterating that Russia will support the Syrian government in the fight against the extremist group.

“To exclude Syrian army from fighting Islamic State is absurd…Syrian armed forces will be the most effective military force on the ground,” Lavrov said, according to the Russia Today news agency.

He added that when there was a question of destroying chemical weapons a year ago, Assad was considered a “legitimate” president of Syria and his actions were welcomed in UN Security Council resolutions.

“A year passed and he [Assad] stopped being legitimate, because the threat is now not chemical weapons or substance but a terror menace,” Lavrov said, describing that as an “ideologized” approach.

“All our western partners, without any exceptions, tell us that they clearly understand what is the main threat in the Middle East and North Africa. And this [threat] is not Assad’s regime, but Islamic State,” he added, according to Russia Today.

“I hope that I won’t fail anyone, saying that some of our colleagues from the coalition states say that they receive information where exactly, on which positions the Islamic State troops are located, but the commander of the coalition doesn’t approve the strike,” continued Lavrov.

“I could suspect that apart from the claimed purpose – fighting Islamic State – there is something else [as the aim] of the coalition, ” he added.

Lavrov went on to say that Russia will assist the Syrian government in the way it assists the governments of all countries, including the Iraqis, which face the threat of terrorism. Such help includes weapons deliveries as well as assistance of Russian specialists who help to set equipment and teach Syrian troops how to handle such equipment.

The comments follow recent reports that Russia had sent a military advance team to its ally Syria and was taking other steps that Washington fears may signal plans to vastly expand military support for the beleaguered Assad.

New images later came to light which appeared to confirm previous reports of Russian "boots on the ground" in Syria.

Following the reports, a concerned United States had Secretary of State John Kerry phone his Russian counterpart to express his concern about the reports of Moscow’s increased presence in Syria.

Moscow, however, later claimed that the aid it provides to Damascus is normal.

Syria also denied the reports of increased military activity by Russian troops on its soil, with Syria’s Information Minister Omran Zohbi dismissing the reports as “baseless”.

This was followed by a second phone call between Kerry and Lavrov, in which the two discussed "the problems of regulating the conflict in Syria".

Russian Foreign Minister: U.S. Knows ISIS Positions in Syria, Refuses to Bomb
Lavrov said "there is something else which is a concern of the coalition"

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday the goal of the United States in Syria is different than what is publicly stated.

He also said the coalition led by the U.S. knows the positions of ISIS in the country and is not targeting them.

Lavrov told Channel one, the largest television network in the Russian Federation, that analysis of aviation operations in Syria “creates a strange impression” and instead of fighting ISIS “there is something else which is a concern of the coalition.”

He said the coalition purportedly fighting ISIS has “information on where exactly” the positions of the terrorist army are in Syria and Iraq, but “does not give consent to striking them.”

In August intelligence analysts said the Pentagon is not targeting an estimated 60 Islamic State training camps considered key in the ISIS effort to capture and hold territory.

According to Bill Gertz of the Free Beacon, officials have stated these camps are off limits “because of concerns about collateral damage.”

“If we know the location of these camps, and the president wants to destroy ISIS, why are the camps still functioning?” one official said.

The absurdity of the U.S. statement on collateral damage is astounding.

A study by Stanford Law School and New York University’s School of Law found that the number of Islamic terrorists killed as a percentage of total casualties in U.S. drone strikes is 2 percent. The remainder are civilians.

Moroever, so-called collateral or incidental damage has served as a tactic for the U.S. in its war in Iraq.

“The death of many civilians in Iraq during the Gulf War due to the the lack of electricity in hospitals, which was the result of the destruction of almost all Iraqi power plants by allied air attacks, has been asserted by Iraq as disproportionate collateral damage,” notes Horst Fischer.
Bombing ISIS Conflicts with Syria Endgame

The United States and its allies are not effectively targeting ISIS — and, in fact, continue to resupply the group, as a number of Iraqis claim — because eliminating the terror group would conflict with the ultimate objective in Syria: the overthrow the al-Assad government and the balkanization the country.

The latter was explained in a document produced by the Ford Foundation funded Brookings Institute.

“Deconstructing Syria: A new strategy for America’s most hopeless war,” authored by Michael E. O’Hanlon, states that “the only realistic path forward may be a plan that in effect deconstructs Syria” and “create pockets with more viable security and governance within Syria over time,” areas that “would never again have to face the prospect of rule by either Assad or ISIL.”

Both so-called “centrist” Democrats and their neocon colleagues support undermining Syria and are responsible for the humanitarian crisis now threatening to swamp Europe with refugees.

The United States has consistently supported the Syrian “rebels,” now virtually all radical Wahhabist jihadists. This includes ISIS and al-Nusra, the former created out of al-Qaeda in Iraq and the latter from native Syrian mujahideen. The State Department, of course, denounces both as terrorist groups while covertly supporting them as part of the effort to undermine al-Assad.

Lavrov only hinted at the real situation in Syria. The Russians, however, are well aware of the fact the ISIS bombing campaign is a farce and a public relations gimmick and understand the real objective in Syria, which includes removing the Russian presence in the region.

Russia positioning tanks at Syria airfield: U.S. officials

Russia has positioned about a half dozen tanks at a Syrian airfield at the center of a military buildup, two U.S. officials said on Tuesday, adding the intentions of Moscow's latest deployment of heavy military equipment to Syria was unclear.

One of the U.S. officials said seven Russian T-90 tanks were observed at the airfield near Latakia, a stronghold of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The two U.S. officials said Russia had also positioned artillery, which they said appeared to be arrayed defensively to protect Russian personnel stationed there.

Reuters has previously reported that Russia had deployed about 200 naval infantry forces to the airfield. Moscow has also been sending about two cargo flights a day to the airfield over the past week, U.S. officials say.

Moscow has come under increased international pressure in recent days to explain what Washington and Gulf states say is a significant Russian military build-up in Syria, where the Kremlin has been supporting Assad in a four-and-a-half-year war.

Russia has said it will continue with military supplies to Syria and that its assistance to the Syrian army is in line with international law.

The United States is using Syrian air space to lead a campaign of air strikes against Islamic State, and a greater Russian presence raises the prospect of the Cold War superpower foes encountering each other on the battlefield.

Both Moscow and Washington say their enemy is Islamic State, whose Islamist fighters control large parts of Syria and Iraq. But Russia supports the government of Assad in Syria, while the United States says his presence makes the situation worse.

The Syrian civil war, in which about 250,000 people have died, has caused nearly half Syria's pre-war 23 million strong population to flee, with many thousands attempting to reach Europe.

Putin defends Russia's military assistance to Syrian regime

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday strongly defended Moscow’s military assistance to the Syrian government, saying it’s impossible to defeat the Islamic State group without cooperating with Damascus.

Putin’s statement comes amid the signs of an ongoing Russian military buildup in Syria, which the U.S. says signals Moscow’s intention to set up an air base there.

Speaking at a meeting of heads of states at a Moscow-dominated security alliance of ex-Soviet nations in Tajikistan, Putin urged other nations to follow Russia’s example and offer military support to Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government.

“We are supporting the government of Syria in the fight against a terrorist aggression, are offering and will continue to offer it necessary military-technical assistance,” Putin said in televised remarks. “Without an active participation of the Syrian authorities and the military, it would be impossible to expel the terrorists from that country and the region as a whole, and to protect the multi-ethnic and multi-confessional Syrian people from destruction.”

He said that Assad was ready to conduct political transformations and engage a “’healthy part of the opposition,” but added that “pooling forces in the fight against terror takes the priority now.”

Kerry confronts Russia over reports of escalating involvement in Syria

Russia has staunchly backed up Assad throughout Syria’s devastating civil war that has killed about 250,000 people and turned millions into refugees, shielding him from United Nations sanctions and continuing to provide him with weapons despite Western criticism.

Putin shrugged off allegations that Moscow’s support for Assad has sparked a flow of refugees, saying that without Russia’s support for Assad’s regime the number of Syrian refugees heading to Europe would have been even bigger.

“People are fleeing Syria primarily to escape fighting that has been fueled from the outside with supplies of weapons and hardware, they are fleeing to escape terrorist atrocities,” he said. “Without Russia’s support for Syria, the situation in the country would have been worse than in Libya, and the flow of refugees would have been even bigger.”

The Pentagon says that Russia is in the midst of a steady military buildup at an airport in Syria’s coastal province of Latakia, indicating Moscow intends to create a forward air operations base there, although no fighter jets or helicopters have arrived yet.

Asked earlier this month if Russian troops could join the fight against IS, Putin seemed to keep the door open for that, saying that “we are looking at various options.”

The Russian leader is set to address the Syrian crisis when he speaks to the U.N. General Assembly later this month, and observers in Moscow believe he wants a Russian military force on the ground to be ready by that time.

America puts boots on the ground in Syria

The numbers are still small, but America may be looking at mission creep in the treacherous Middle East.

The end of summer. It means back-to-school shopping, tearfully ended beach-born romances, the last Dacha barbecues—and, it would seem, the increased likelihood of new American adventurism. As if Washington weren’t satisfied with the game in Ukraine, the last month has seen a flurry of reports about its ever-expanding military involvement in Syria.

One report has even alleged that American pilots are gearing up to fly missions alongside their French and British allies, dropping bombs not just on Islamic State (IS formerly ISIS/ISIL) but on Assad's forces who may or may not be aligned with Russia or its regional partners.

Several sources consulted for this story said the Kremlin is being unusually cagey about America’s reinvigorated role in Syria. A former Russian officer told me, “I’m being told things like, ‘We really can’t talk about this.’ That indicates to me that there’s some truth to these allegations.”

Some of them are verifiable. A multimillion-dollar deal with a minuscule arms dealer led to the death of a US citizen, delays in arming Syrian rebels, and the purchase of weapons from a pro-Russian nation (starts with Bel, hint, hint!) — all for a pile of defective 30-year-old weapons.

But what was remarkable about the deal was that an American contractor, 41-year-old Francis Norwillo, was killed in a weapons explosion in Bulgaria while training with those outdated grenades (This doesn’t include others who may have also trained with those armaments).

On September 16, the Associated Press, an American news agency that covers the Middle East and North Africa, discovered that "no more than five US-trained Syrian rebels are fighting Islamic State, astoundingly short of the envisioned 5,000." They branded the training program "a total failure."

So important to President Obama is interfering in Syria that Congress had approved $500m (£323m) to train and equip around 5,000 rebels as a key plank of the US strategy against Assad and IS. But the BBC, state broadcaster of US lapdog, the United Kingdom, said: "The first 54 graduates were routed by an Al-Qaeda affiliate." Republican Senator Kelly Ayotte called the number remaining "a joke."

"We have to acknowledge this is a total failure. I wish it weren't so, but that's the fact," said another Republican Senator, Jeff Sessions.

But what’s most intriguing is that the Huffington Post disagrees with this assessment. The outlet said"there's more to the complex story of what the US is up to in Syria than this admission of startlingly limited progress." While "there has been a serious failure to plan how best to protect US-friendly assets," the Post indicated this is not the whole picture.

"There is a significantly larger and more successful US rebel-training operation run by the CIA in southern Syria. (General Lloyd) Austin could not publicly acknowledge that effort, and neither could the senators questioning him, but others who follow the Syrian civil war helped set the record straight," the news-site revealed.

The story continued: "In 2013, working with US regional allies who also invested funds, intelligence and weaponry, the CIA-run program set up shop in Jordan and began to arm and pay Syrian nationalists fighting Assad. That focus made it significantly more successful in recruiting Syrians than the Pentagon program has been. For about $1 billion a year, according to the Washington Post, the CIA's Syria mission paved the way for rebels in the south to beat back the regime without cooperating with extremists, and to appear, for a time, to be a ray of hope for the country," A Russian source, Iakov Melnik, confided to me: "America blurs the divisions.”

The famous Washington Post newspaper reported in June that "the CIA has trained and equipped nearly 10,000 fighters sent into Syria over the past several years — meaning that the agency is spending roughly $100,000 per year for every anti-Assad rebel who has gone through the program."

Meanwhile, in July, the Carnegie Centre celebrated the fact that "the Syrian regime is weakening militarily in the face of the rise of Islamic State as well as the Islamist rebel coalition Jaysh al-Fateh sponsored by Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Qatar."

One active Russian intelligence official told me that while no one is “surprised to see reports of American trained rebels in the region—which would also suggest American forces training them—the line between training and taking part in combat is fuzzy. But the intelligence community also hasn’t seen anything to indicate that Americans are not taking part in the fight.”

America has also sent intelligence operatives into Syria. Wikileaks has reported that the US government has been secretly funding the Syrian opposition. Special Activities Division teams are speculated to have been deployed to Syria during the uprising to liaise with rebel groups, provide leadership and work-out potential supply routes.

In May 2012, for instance, Business Insider reported"the former director of the security firm Blackwater aided the Libyan opposition and was subsequently sent to contact Syrian rebels in Turkey at the request of a US Government committee, according to published Stratfor emails and reported by Al-Akhbar English."

In October 2008, the CIA conducted a paramilitary raid on the town of Sukkariyeh in eastern Syria. The raid involved "about two dozen US commandos in specially equipped Black Hawk helicopters," according to reporters for the New York Times.

Syria accused the US of committing "terrorist aggression" and said that eight civilians had been murdered. In reprisal, the Syrian government closed an American cultural center and the US-sponsored Damascus Community School.

Citing Obama’s help in solidifying the Iran deal, the Putin administration has been seeking any way to resurrect the dead Syrian peace initiative. The usual suspects have suggested that this time it’s different: America may be finally thinking about abandoning IS to save its client states in the region and may be ready to cut another grand bargain with Russia to do so.

However, some Kremlin insiders insist that when Russia proposes the US as a counter-terrorism partner, it must be mindful of the role it played in creating & strengthening Islamic State.

Russia launches airstrikes in northern Syria, senior military official says

Russian warplanes have begun bombarding Syrian opposition targets in the war-torn nation's north, working on behalf of dictator Bashar al-Assad, according to a senior military official.

The official said airstrikes targeted fighters in the vicinity of Homs, located roughly 60 miles east of a Russian naval facility in Tartus, and were carried out by a "couple" of Russian bombers. It was not clear if the strikes targeted ISIS, Al Qaeda or other forces opposed to Assad, who Moscow is aiding.  According to a Twitter handle belonging to the Syrian government, the Russian strikes were initiated at the request of Assad.

The development came after Pentagon officials brushed aside an official request from Russia to clear air space over northern Syria, where Moscow intends to conduct airstrikes against ISIS on behalf of Assad, according to sources who spoke to Fox News.

The request was made by a Russian three-star general who spoke with U.S. officials at the American Embassy in Baghdad, sources said. The general, who was not identified, used the word "please" when delivering the verbal request, known as a "demarche," according to the written transcript of the exchange.

"If you have forces in the area we request they leave," the general said.

A senior Pentagon official said the U.S., which also has been conducting airstrikes against ISIS, but does not support Assad, said the request was not honored.

"We still conducted our normal strike operations in Syria today," the official said. "We did not and have not changed our operations."

The move by Moscow marks a major escalation in ongoing tensions between the two countries over military action in the war-torn country and comes moments after Russian lawmakers formally approved a request from the country's president, Vladimir Putin, to authorize the use of troops in Syria.

The Russian demand also mirrors one made by Turkey this past July, when Ankara asked U.S. planes to fly only in airspace south of Mosul, Iraq. In that case, 24 Turkish jets bombed Kurdish positions, catching the U.S. off guard.

The Federation Council, the upper house of Russia's parliament, discussed Putin's request for the authorization behind the closed doors. Sergei Ivanov, chief of Putin's administration, said in televised remarks that the parliament voted unanimously to approve the request.

Ivanov said the authorization is necessary "not in order to achieve some foreign policy goals" but "in order to defend Russia's national interests."

Putin is obligated to request parliamentary approval for any use of Russian troops abroad, according to the Russian Constitution. The last time he did so was before Russia annexed Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula in March 2014.

Putin's request comes after his bilateral meeting with President Barack Obama on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York, where the two were discussing Russia's recent military buildup in Syria.

A U.S. official told Fox News Monday the two leaders agreed to discuss political transition in Syria but were at odds over the role that Assad should play in resolving the civil conflict. The official said Obama reiterated to Putin that he does not believe there is a path to stability in Syria with Assad in power. Putin has said the world needs to support Assad because his military has the best chance to defeat ISIS militants.

Putin said the meeting, which lasted slightly more than 90 minutes, was “very constructive, business-like and frank".

“We are thinking about it, and we don’t exclude anything,” Putin told reporters at the time

The Kremlin reported that Putin hosted a meeting of the Russian security council at his residence Tuesday night outside of Moscow, saying that they were discussing terrorism and extremism.

On Tuesday, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius called on Russia to make a real contribution to the fight against ISIS, telling reporters at the United Nations that Moscow "is against the terrorists, it's not abnormal to launch strikes against them."

"The international community has hit (ISIS). France has hit (ISIS), Bashar al-Assad very little, and the Russians not at all. So one has to look at who does what," Fabius added.

Russia has been a staunch supporter of Assad during Syria's bloody civil war, and multiple reports have previously indicated that Russian troops are aiding Assad's forces. Israel's defense minister also said earlier this month that Russian troops are in Syria to help Assad fight the ISIS terror group.

On Wednesday, Reuters reported that Russia's Foreign Ministry told the news agency Interfax that a recently established operations center in Baghdad would help coordinate airstrikes and ground troops in Syria. Fox News first reported last week that the center had been set up by Russian, Syrian and Iranian military commanders with the goal of working with Iranian-backed Shia militias fighting ISIS.

Over the weekend, the Iraqi government announced that it would begin sharing "security and intelligence" information with Russia, Syria and Iran to help combat ISIS.

Meanwhile, intelligence sources told Fox News Friday that Iranian Quds Force commander Qasem Soleimani met with Russian military commanders in Baghdad September 22. Fox News reported earlier this month that Soleimani met Putin in Moscow over the summer to discuss a joint military plan in Syria.

"The Russians are no longer advising, but co-leading the war in Syria," one intelligence official said at the time.

I read the other day that Russia has all but taken over as the world's super powers. Maybe not officially, but pretty much everyone saw it quietly at the United Nations this week.

It's all going according to script.

Russia Carries Out Airstrikes in Syria for 2nd Day

BEIRUT, Lebanon — In a second day of raids in Syria, Russian warplanes carried out a new round of airstrikes on Thursday in the northwestern province of Idlib that targeted not the Islamic State but a rival insurgent coalition, according to accounts from journalists and activists.

Russia’s entry into the Syrian conflict, which started on Wednesday with a bombing attack on Syrian opposition fighters, has been angrily condemned by United States officials. They fear that President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia is using their shared goal of defeating the Islamic State as a pretext for weakening other opponents of Syria’s embattled president, Bashar al-Assad. Mr. Putin says that Mr. Assad is a bulwark against the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL; President Obama says that Mr. Assad must go.

On Thursday, Al Mayadeen, a Lebanon-based news channel that leans toward the Syrian government, reported that Russia was targeting “a known list of terrorist organizations” that it had agreed on with the Syrian Army.

Mostapha al-Nayrab, an antigovernment activist in Idlib Province, said that Russian warplanes had bombed many areas in the south and west of the province, hitting both insurgent bases and a mosque where five civilians were killed.

Russian officials, however, insisted that they had hit four “objects of the Islamic State”: a “terrorist headquarters” and arms depot near the city of Idlib; a three-story command bunker near Hama, a city about 60 miles to the south; and a bomb factory in Homs Province, which is farther to the south. The airstrikes began on Wednesday to the north and northeast of the city of Homs. The Islamic State has been most active in areas significantly to the east of those areas.

The Russian state news agency RIA reported that airstrikes by the Syrian military, which is working with the Russian Air Force, had killed 107 militants, including three commanders of the Nusra Front, Al Qaeda’s affiliate in Syria, near Homs.

Konstantin Kosachev, the chairman of the foreign affairs committee of the Russian Senate, denied the charge that Russia was overlooking Islamic State targets and instead attacking other opponents of Mr. Assad’s. “There is no evidence able to prove these groundless claims that are being spread today,” he said.

IRAN SENDING GROUND TROOPS TO JOIN RUSSIAN MILITARY AS BATTLE FOR SYRIA BEGINS
Geoffrey Grider | October 1, 2015 | 0 Comments
HUNDREDS OF IRANIAN TROOPS HAVE ARRIVED IN SYRIA IN THE LAST 10 DAYS AND WILL SOON JOIN GOVERNMENT FORCES AND THEIR LEBANESE HEZBOLLAH ALLIES IN A MAJOR GROUND OFFENSIVE BACKED BY RUSSIAN AIR STRIKES, TWO LEBANESE SOURCES TOLD REUTERS.

“Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God. For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.” Psalm 83:1,2 (KJV)

EDITOR’S NOTE: One day after Russia began airstrikes on pockets of resistance to the Assad regime in Syria, news had surfaced that Iran is sending ground troops to join the battle. Russia and Iran are not there to defeat ISIS, they are there to restore power to Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad. Huge difference. By doing this, a permanent military front will be created on Israel’s northern border. The complete balance of power in the Middle East has changed and seemingly overnight. But this is not random happenstance, this is the fulfillment of Bible prophecy. And where the American President as all this is happening? On the sidelines, pushing gay rights from the golf course.

“The Russian air strikes will in the near future be accompanied by ground advances by the Syrian army and its allies,” said one of the sources familiar with political and military developments in the conflict.

“It is possible that the coming land operations will be focused in the Idlib and Hama countryside,” the source added.

THE TWO SOURCES SAID THE OPERATION WOULD BE AIMED AT RECAPTURING TERRITORY LOST BY PRESIDENT BASHAR AL-ASSAD’S GOVERNMENT TO REBELS.

It points to an emerging military alliance between Russia and Assad’s other main allies – Iran and Hezbollah – focused on recapturing areas of northwestern Syria that were seized by insurgents in rapid advances earlier this year.

iran-sending-ground-troops-to-syrian-join-russian-forces

“The vanguard of Iranian ground forces began arriving in Syria: soldiers and officers specifically to participate in this battle. They are not advisors … we mean hundreds with equipment and weapons. They will be followed by more,” the second source said. Iraqis would also take part in the operation, the source said.

Thus far, direct Iranian military support for Assad has come mostly in the form of military advisors. Iran has also mobilized Shi’ite militia fighters, including Iraqis and some Afghans, to fight alongside Syrian government forces.

LEBANON’S HEZBOLLAH, WHICH IS BACKED BY IRAN, HAS BEEN FIGHTING ALONGSIDE THE SYRIAN ARMY SINCE EARLY IN THE CONFLICT.

The Russian air force began air strikes in Syria on Wednesday, targeting areas near the cities of Homs and Hama in the west of the country, where Assad’s forces are fighting an array of insurgent groups, though not Islamic State, which is based mostly in the north and east.

An alliance of insurgent groups including the al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front and powerful Ahrar al-Sham made rapid gains in Idlib province earlier this year, completely expelling the government from the area bordering Turkey. source

Russia defends its military action in Syria

As Russian warplanes carried out a second wave of airstrikes Thursday in Syria, Moscow defended its military involvement against Western criticism of its intentions, saying it sees "eye-to-eye" with the U.S.-led coalition campaign on its targets in the country.

The claim of agreement with Washington came amid conflicting reports about Russia's intentions in Syria and whether it is targeting only Islamic State and al-Qaida-linked militants.

The U.S. and its allies fear that Russia, which has backed the family of President Bashar Assad since the current leader's father was in power, is using the air campaign as a pretext to go after anti-Assad rebels that include CIA-backed groups.

Russian jets appeared to be primarily bombing central and northwestern Syria, strategic regions that are the gateway to Assad's strongholds in the capital of Damascus and the coast.

Warplanes hit locations of a U.S.-backed rebel group, Tajamu Alezzah, in the central province of Hama, said the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. It added that Tajamu Alezzah also was targeted a day earlier.

Idlib province appeared to bear the brunt of the attacks, activists said. The province is controlled by a coalition of rebel groups that include the al-Qaida-linked Jabbat al-Nusra.

In Syria's chaotic civil war and rapidly shifting battlefield terrain, however, it can be difficult to distinguish which groups holds what territory.

On Wednesday, French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said Russian warplanes "didn't hit Islamic State," and U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter had also said the Russians appeared to have targeted areas that did not include IS militants.

Speaking Thursday at the United Nations, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov rejected suggestions that the airstrikes were to shore up support for Moscow's main ally in the Middle East.

He insisted Russia was targeting the same militant groups as the U.S.-led coalition, which is conducting its own airstrikes in Syria: the Islamic State, also known as ISIL, the al-Qaida-linked Jabbat al-Nusra and other groups.

"I would recall that we always were saying that we are going to fight ISIL and other terrorist groups," he said. "This is the same position which the Americans are taking. The representatives of the coalition command have always been saying that their targets are ISIL, al-Nusra and other terrorist groups. This is basically our position as well. We see eye-to-eye with the coalition on this one."

Lavrov added: "If it looks like a terrorist, if it acts like a terrorist, if it walks like a terrorist, if it fights like a terrorist, it's a terrorist, right?"

Asked if he agreed with Lavrov, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said: "Well, in concept."

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov acknowledged to reporters that, "Of course the goal is to help the Syrian army where it is weakest. Yes, that is right. The weak points are where the Syrian army is fighting against IS and other terrorist groups."

As concerns grew about a conflict that has now drawn in warplanes from the world's two most powerful militaries, Russian President Vladimir Putin denied reports that civilians were killed in any Russian airstrikes.

"We are ready for such information attacks," he said in a live broadcast from the Kremlin. "The first reports of civilian casualties came even before our jets took off."

Lt. Gen. Robert Otto, deputy chief of staff for intelligence and surveillance for the Air Force, said the Russians have been dropping "dumb bombs" — munitions that are not precision-guided. The use of such indiscriminate targeting could lead to the deaths of innocent civilians, he said, and create more terrorists than they kill.

One of the airstrikes hit near a mosque in the city of Jisr al-Shughour, which fell in April to rebel groups including al-Nusra, the Observatory said. A video showed damage to the mosque and a man could be heard saying that one person was killed.

The Pentagon began talks via video teleconference with Russian military officials on ways to avoid U.S. and Russian forces firing on each other in Syria.

Otto said that even as the U.S. tries to ensure Russian airstrikes don't conflict with coalition operations in Syria, he does not believe there will be any real intelligence-sharing with Moscow.

"I have a low level of trust in the Russians. It's trust but verify," he said. "It's easy, then, to exchange factual data where you're going to operate. I would not envision a relationship where I would share some of my intelligence with them."

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said its aircraft damaged or destroyed 12 targets in Syria belonging to the Islamic State group, including a command center and two ammunition depots. Officials acknowledged, however, that other unidentified groups were being targeted as well.

Konashenkov said Russian Su-24M and Su-25 jets flew 20 sorties since Wednesday, and he insisted civilian areas were not targeted. He later said Su-34s also had flown missions.

Hundreds of Chechens and Central Asian fighters have joined the battles in Syria since the early days of the civil war, and many form the backbone of al-Nusra and Islamic State. Some of those Chechen extremists are part of the coalition that controls Idlib.

Putin has said Russia would be fighting "gangs of international terrorists." The Syrian government uses the word "terrorists" to describe all rebel groups.

The U.S. and Russia agree on the need to fight IS but not about what to do with Assad. The Syrian civil war, which grew out of an uprising against the longtime leader, has killed more than 250,000 people since March 2011 and sent millions fleeing elsewhere in the Middle East and Europe.

Lavrov also said Russia did not plan to carry out airstrikes against IS militants in Iraq, which has seen large parts of its territory overrun by the extremists. "We are polite people, we don't come if not invited," Lavrov said.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al Abadi told France 24 television he would welcome Russian airstrikes in his country if Moscow made such a proposal, but that it hasn't happened yet.

"If we get the offer, we (will) consider it. In actual fact, I would welcome it," he said, noting that he has been in contact with Putin.

With daily U.S. and allied airstrikes — and now Russian warplanes in Syrian airspace — the war is taking on a dangerous new dimension.

In Paris, Russian Ambassador Alexander Orlov said Russian officials warned the Americans "via confidential channels" of where they planned to strike. He also noted a coordination center was being set up in Baghdad that would include Syrians, Iraqis, Iranians and Russians — and any other country that wants to participate.

Iran's Foreign Ministry said it fully supports Russian airstrikes against "terrorist groups" in Syria.

The "Islamic Republic of Iran considers military action by Russia against armed terrorist groups to be a step toward fighting terrorism and toward resolving the current crisis" in Syria, said ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham in a statement carried by the official IRNA news agency.

Pentagon Weighing Use of Military Force to Protect U.S.-Trained Syrian Rebels If They’ve Come Under Fire by Russia

Russia’s launch of airstrikes in Syria is prompting discussions within the Pentagon about whether the U.S. should use military force to protect U.S.-trained and equipped Syrian rebels if they come under fire by the Russians.

U.S. officials said Thursday that senior military leaders and defense officials are working through the thorny legal and foreign policy issues and are weighing the risks of using force in response to a Russian attack.

Defense Secretary Ash Carter declined to discuss the problem when asked about it this week. But U.S. officials acknowledged that this is one of the questions being asked as they debate the broader dilemma of how the administration should respond to what White House press secretary Josh Earnest described as Russia’s “indiscriminate military operations against the Syrian opposition.”

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss ongoing deliberations publicly.

Tensions between the U.S. and Russia are escalating over Russian airstrikes that apparently are serving to strengthen Syrian President Bashar Assad by targeting rebels – perhaps including some aligned with the U.S. – rather than hitting Islamic State fighters it promised to attack.

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry says Ankara and its allies in the U.S.-led coalition are calling on Russia to immediately cease attacks on the Syrian opposition and to focus on fighting Islamic State militants.

Meanwhile, a joint statement by the United States, France, Germany, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Britain expressed concern over Russia’s military actions, saying they will “only fuel more extremism and radicalization.” The text of the statement was released by the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Friday, and confirmed by the French Foreign Ministry.

The Pentagon on Thursday had its first conversation with Russian officials in an effort to avoid any unintended U.S.-Russian confrontations as the airstrikes continue in the skies over Syria. During the video call, Elissa Slotkin, who represented the U.S. side, expressed America’s concerns that Russia is targeting areas where there are few if any Islamic State forces operating. Slotkin is the acting assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs.

A key concern is the prospect of the U.S. and Russia getting drawn into a shooting war in the event that Russian warplanes hit moderate Syrian rebels who have been trained and equipped by the U.S. military.

At U.N. headquarters in New York, Secretary of State John Kerry said: “What is important is Russia has to not be engaged in any activities against anybody but ISIL. That’s clear. We have made that very clear.”

“We are not yet where we need to be to guarantee the safety and security” of those carrying out the airstrikes, he said.

In an interview late Thursday on CBS’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Kerry described the military consultations as “a way of making sure that planes aren’t going to be shooting at each other and making things worse.”

“What is happening is a catastrophe, a human catastrophe really unparalleled in modern times,” Kerry said of the Syrian crisis, adding that Russia should help the United States “persuade Assad to be the saver of his country, not the killer of his country.”

U.S. officials made it clear earlier this year that rebels trained by the U.S. would receive air support in the event they are attacked by either IS or Syrian government troops. Currently, only about 80 U.S.-trained Syrian rebels are back in Syria fighting with their units.

The U.S. policy is very specific. It doesn’t address a potential attack by Russian planes and does not include Syrian rebels who have not been through the U.S. military training, even though they may be aligned with the U.S. or fighting Islamic State militants.

So far, the Russian airstrikes have been in western Syria. The Syrians trained and equipped by the U.S. have primarily been operating in the north.

U.S. officials said the issue is one of many being hashed out by top leaders within the department and the military’s Joint Staff. One official said they are weighing the potential fallout.

At worst, if Russia bombs rebels trained by the U.S. and American fighter jets intercede to protect the Syrians, the exchange could trigger an all-out confrontation with Russia — a potential disaster the administration would like to avoid.

Fueling the concerns is the fact that Russia has aircraft in Syria with air-to-air combat capacity, even though IS has no air force and the only aircraft in the skies belong to U.S.-led coalition or the Syrian government.

Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook would not provide details of the talks with Russia. But much of the discussion involved proposals for avoiding conflict between U.S. and Russian aircraft flying over Syria.

Kerry said he foresees further consultations with the Russians about air operations. And Cook said the U.S. side proposed using specific international radio frequencies for distress calls by military pilots flying in Syrian airspace, but he was not more specific about that or other proposals.

Russia’s defense ministry said that over the past 24 hours it had damaged or destroyed 12 targets in Syria belonging to the IS fighters, including a command center and ammunition depots. A U.S. military spokesman in Baghdad, Col. Steve Warren, said he had no indication that the Russians had hit Islamic State targets.

“While there is always danger of conflict, of inadvertent contact” between coalition and Russian warplanes, “we are continuing with our operations,” Warren told reporters at the Pentagon.

Russian Air Force destroys ISIS command center, training camp (VIDEO)

On Thursday, Russian warplanes stationed in Syria attacked a terrorist training camp and a command center, taking it out with a precision strike launched form an altitude of over 5,000 meters, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

The airstrike was one of a dozen conducted by Russia in Syria on Thursday during 18 sorties, Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov, the ministry spokesman, told journalists. Advanced Sukhoi Su-25 and Su-34s were used for strikes.

“The targeting systems of those planes allows for hitting ground targets with absolute precision, which was proven yesterday during combat missions targeting ISIS infrastructure," he said. "We can use this type of aircraft to deliver strikes anywhere in Syria."

Overnight, the Russian Air Force conducted 10 sorties and hit seven targets in Syria,  Konashenkov said. Over the 24 hours the planes bombed a field camp in Aleppo province, a logistics center in Idlib province and a command point at a fortified facility in Hama province.

The general reiterated calls to take with a grain of salt reports of alleged Russian strikes on residential areas and targets not belonging to terrorist groups coming from some sources in Syria.

“Those sensationalized fakes are complete nonsense and have no factual basis and do not merit any discussions," he said. "They were prepared even before the operation started."

Russia started airstrikes on terrorist targets in Syria on Wednesday at the request of President Bashar Assad’s government. The goal is to provide air support for Syrian troops fighting Islamic State.

'This is a major world event': The Syrian war is now fueling a 'global cold war'

One day after launching a campaign of airstrikes in Syria, Russia announced that it was considering going into Iraq.

A foreign ministry representative said Thursday that Russia would consider any request from Iraq to conduct anti-ISIS airstrikes in the country, and Iraqi President Haider al-Abadi told Western news outlets that Russian airstrikes were "a possibility" and that Iraq would "welcome it."

"Our message to the Russians — I met with Putin — please join this fight against Daesh," Abadi told PBS NewsHour, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Daesh, as well as the Islamic State, is another name for the ISIS militant group.

"Daesh is a dangerous terrorist organization, not only against Iraq, against Syria, against the whole region, against the whole world. It is time that we all join the same forces to fight Daesh."

This escalation signifies a "fundamental shifting of the balance of power in the Middle East," Ali Khedery, the longest continuously serving American official in Iraq, told Business Insider in an interview.

Khedery called the Russian strikes a "major world event" and compared the country's actions to the formation of the Axis alliance leading up to World War II.

"Now, an alliance really is consolidating and formalizing," Khedery said. "There is now a Shia axis locked in combat across Iraq, Syria, and Yemen. I expect an expansion of the conflict in the months and years ahead. This has the potential to escalate into a regional war, a holy war, and global cold war."

The alliance Khedery speaks of is between Iran, Syria, Iraq, and the Tehran-backed Shia militant group Hezbollah. The group has already set up a coordination cell in Baghdad.
'A strategic enemy of the United States'

Russia started bombing targets in Syria on Wednesday, avoiding the strongholds of ISIS and instead going after areas held by other rebels who are fighting the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad, who the US has said must step aside if ISIS is to be defeated.

Initially, Russia insisted that it was entering Syria to wipe out ISIS, but experts say it's now clear that Russia's prime concern is propping up the Assad regime against nationalist rebels and maintaining its influence in the region.

Thursday's statements from Russia and Iraq come days after Iraq announced an intelligence-sharing agreement with Russia, Syria, and Iran.

"Russia seeks to lay the foundation for a long-term strategic presence in the Middle East," Khedery said. "I think it’s catastrophic ... To me, this is the latest and greatest sign that Iraq is actually, as a government, a strategic enemy of the United States. It is allied with our strategic enemies — Iran, Assad, Hezbollah, and now, Russia."

The news of possible Russian airstrikes in Syria comes as Iranian troops arrive in Syria to join Assad's forces and Hezbollah fighters for a ground offensive, Reuters reports. Sources told Reuters that the operation "would be aimed at recapturing territory lost by Assad's government to rebels."

It's unclear what the US will do moving forward. Secretary of State John Kerry said Wednesday that the US had "grave concerns" about Russian strikes in Syria. And a US military official acknowledged that the strikes did "not correlate" with known ISIS positions, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Khedery predicts that Russia's escalation in the Middle East will continue as Putin seeks to project Russian power and fill "a vacuum left by US President Barack Obama in the wake of his perceived inability or unwillingness to defend American and allied interests in the region," he said.

France tells Putin to confine airstrikes to Islamic State

or what?  Huh

With Russian warplanes bombing Syria for a third day, French President Francois Hollande told President Vladimir Putin on Friday that Moscow's airstrikes must be confined to attacking Islamic State militants, not other rebels opposing the Damascus government.

Hollande used a meeting on Ukraine to address Western concerns that Russia's airstrikes would serve to strengthen Syrian President Bashar Assad by targeting rebels — perhaps including some aligned with the U.S. — rather than hitting IS fighters it has promised to attack.

Allies in a U.S.-led coalition that is conducting its own air campaign in Syria called on Russia to cease attacks on the Syrian opposition and to focus on fighting the Islamic State group. A joint statement by France, Turkey, the U.S. Germany, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Britain expressed concern that Russia's actions will "only fuel more extremism and radicalization."

The Russian Defense Ministry released images showing that its jets hit an Islamic State-held area near its de facto capital of Raqqa in northern Syria on Thursday. It said there were 14 new missions Friday, including targets in Idlib and Hama provinces.

Hollande said he told Putin that only one of Russia's strikes in three days hit at the Islamic State, also known as ISIL, ISIS and Daesh. The other strikes, Hollande added, were on areas controlled by the opposition.

"Russia has always been involved in Syria. Since the beginning, Russia has supported the regime of Bashar Assad and furnished him weapons, even if it goes further now," Hollande told reporters. "But what I told Mr. Putin is that the strikes must concern Daesh, and only Daesh."

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who also attended the meeting with Putin, added that the leaders "said very clearly that Daesh was the enemy that we needed to fight."

"We also said that we needed a political solution for Syria that should take into consideration the opposition's interests and that opposition has always had our support," she added.

In Washington, President Barack Obama said Russia's military campaign fails to distinguish between terrorist groups and moderate rebel forces with a legitimate interest in a negotiated end to the civil war. He called Russia's military involvement, including airstrikes, a self-defeating exercise that will move the Syrian conflict further away from a solution.

"It's only strengthening ISIL, and that's not good for anybody," Obama said. He said he hoped Putin would come to realize that allying Russia with Iran to try to keep Assad in power "is just going to get them stuck in a quagmire, and it won't work. And they will be there for a while if they don't take a different course."

Obama also said that Syria would not turn into a "proxy war" between the United States and Russia.

Putin left the Paris meeting without comment — and without appearing alongside the French and German leaders.

His spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said the leaders "talked at length about Syrian affairs," and the Russian leader briefed Hollande about how the Russian operation is going. Putin reiterated Russia's commitment to coordinate its airstrikes "with the interested parties," Peskov added.

On Thursday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov rejected suggestions that the airstrikes were meant to shore up support for Syria, Moscow's main ally in the Middle East. He insisted Russia was targeting the same militant groups as the U.S.-led coalition: IS, the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front and other groups.

At the United Nations, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem welcomed the Russian intervention. He told the General Assembly that Moscow's bombing campaign was based on his government's request and was effective because it supports Syria's efforts to combat terrorism.

But he also took a swipe at the U.S.-led airstrikes in Syria.

"Terrorism cannot be fought only from the air, and all of the previous operations to combat it have only served its spread and outbreak," al-Moallem said. "Airstrikes are useless unless they are conducted in cooperation with the Syrian army, the only force in Syria that is combating terrorism."

Russia's airstrikes have prompted discussions in the Pentagon about whether the U.S. should use military force to protect U.S.-trained and -equipped Syrian rebels if they come under fire by the Russians. The Pentagon on Thursday had its first conversation with Russian officials in an effort to avoid any unintended U.S.-Russian confrontations.

Friday's long-awaited meeting in Paris was intended to further the accord to end fighting in Ukraine but was overshadowed by the war that has sent millions of Syrians fleeing their homes. Hundreds of thousands of refugees have flooded into Europe.

Since Russia's airstrikes began Wednesday, the warplanes appeared to be bombing central and northwestern Syria, strategic regions that are the gateway to Assad's strongholds in the capital of Damascus and the coast. But rapidly shifting battle lines in the chaotic civil war can make it difficult to distinguish which groups hold what territory.

Russian news agencies quoted Defense Ministry spokesman Gen.-Maj. Igor Konashenov as saying that one attack destroyed an IS bombmaking facility in Maaret al-Numan in Idlib province. Maaret al-Numan is mostly controlled by the Nusra Front. According to activists, the target struck Friday is a Nusra Front position in the nearby town of Khan Sheikhoun.

He also said an IS command post, bunker and storage depot were hit in Hama province. Hama is mostly controlled by rebel groups that are opposed to the Islamic State group.

The focus on Moscow's involvement in Syria has brought Putin new sway after more than a year of sanctions that weakened Russia's economy and dented his influence in Europe.

"Putin's economy may be in tatters, and the domestic outlook isn't great, but his foreign policy game has been very strong lately. Why? Because he has astutely recognized the West's priorities and linked them to his own," said Alexander Kliment, Russia director for Eurasia Group.

Alina Polyakova, associate director of the Atlantic Council's Eurasia Center, said Putin's actions in Syria was "part of a broader Russian foreign policy to expand its sphere of influence in Eastern Europe primarily and also to the south and to position itself as a fighter of global terrorism."

Putin has made the first steps for bringing Russia out of its international isolation over the crisis in Ukraine, added Alex Kokcharov, a senior analyst with IHS, "but it still remains to be seen whether he succeeds."

US weighs new support for Syrian rebels against ISIS

But if these are McCains buddies they ARE ISIS.  Roll Eyes All of the so called rebels that the US trained have given their equipment to ISIS. Good job McCain. Also the Western world blew it there. Russia has been an ally of Syria since Israel snubbed them back in the 40's. Of course they will come to their aid. The only way to stop Russia now is to attack them, and with China sending forces into the area that is very unlikely unless we start WW III

American backing for plan would come as moderate rebels in Syria, say they have been targeted by Russian air strikes, raising tensions between Washington and Moscow.

The United States is considering extending support to thousands of Syrian rebel fighters, possibly with arms and air strikes, to help them push Islamic State from a strategic pocket of Syrian territory along the Turkish border, US officials say.

US backing for the plan would come as moderate rebels in Syria, some trained and backed by the United States, say they have been targeted by Russian air strikes, raising tensions between Washington and Moscow.

A decision, the officials said, would likely be made as part of a comprehensive overhaul of the US military's support for rebels to fight Islamic State following setbacks that have all but killed a "train-and-equip" program.

The proposal under consideration is for the United States and Turkey to support an amalgamation of largely Arab fighters and would include members of multiple ethnic groups, US officials say.

Turkey, wary of Kurdish aspirations to create an independent state, does not want to see Kurdish forces control more of the Syrian side of their border.

The fighters, who were proposed by Turkey, include some who have received US vetting, the officials say. Its unclear how many Syrian fighters have received US vetting, although the military acknowledges reviewing upwards of 8,000 potential recruits, many of whom were deemed ineligible for training.

"We don't have a problem with that (Turkish selection)," said one US military official, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, and cautioning that the matter was still under review by the Obama administration.

The official and others interviewed by Reuters declined to name the groups, which in Syria often have competing interests. Two US officials said the fighters numbered in the thousands but declined to offer a precise figure.

The aim of the operation would be to push Islamic State forces from a 90-km (56-mile) stretch of Syria's northern border running east toward the Syrian city of Jarabulus, about 130 km northwest of the Islamic State's declared capital of Raqqa. The area is west of the Euphrates river that dissects the Syria-Turkey border.

STRATEGIC VALUE

Chris Kozak, a Syria analyst at the Washington-based Institute for the Study of War, said the territory was strategically valuable to Islamic State, serving as its last significant point of access to the northern border with Turkey.

US assistance could include everything from air strikes, to offering equipment and even arms, if approved, the military official said, adding that the different levels of US knowledge about the fighters has added complexity to the review.

Turkey and the United States agreed to take the territory in July as part of an agreement under which Ankara allowed the United States to use its bases for strikes against Islamic State. Turkey also started carrying out air strikes on Islamic State targets in Syria.

But US officials acknowledged after the agreement was struck that they had not agreed on which Syrian rebels they would support in that zone. That issue has been resolved at a preliminary level, the officials said.

Obama has sought to limit direct US military involvement in Syria's civil war to waging air strikes against Islamic State, while training and supporting Syrian rebels fighting them.

The US administration, which is seeking to avoid a proxy war with Russia, has so far signaled no intention to protect Syrian rebels from Russian bombing.

At a news conference on Friday, Obama acknowledged that the US military's train and equip program had not achieved its goals but said he would continue to work with Syria's moderate opposition.

"We are going to continue to go after ISIL. We are going to continue to reach out to a moderate opposition. We reject Russia's theory that everybody opposed to Assad is a terrorist," Obama said.

US officials have told Reuters that a review is underway that could also result in scaling back and reenvisioning Washington's struggling program to train and equip moderate rebels. About 80 graduates are deployed in Syria now and dozens are still in US training, but the Pentagon has stopped drawing recruits from the Syrian battlefield during the review.

At the same time, the Obama administration is weighing the possibility of supporting another, separate rebel push east of the Euphrates river that includes largely Kurdish forces, the military official said.

That group, known as the Syrian Arab Coalition, would push south toward Raqqa, the official said.

For some time now I`ve considered the theory of a regional war between Israel vs Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt to be a likely possibility. It`s a popular view the last few years that has always sounded plausible to me. But now Russia has deployed in Syria and I expect them to stay there permanently.

I would almost rule out regional war theory and believe that the Gog war is probably very close. It that is true then it puts the world years closer to the end of the age.

Russians Say U.S. Not Bombing ISIS
Pentagon has admitted creating and supporting the Islamic State

Alexei Pushkov, the head of the Russian parliament’s international affairs committee, took to Twitter on Friday and said the United States is not bombing ISIS.

“McCain accused us of striking out at US-trained insurgents… However, since they have either run away or joined al-Qaeda, hitting them is a mission impossible,” Pushkov wrote on his Twitter account.

“The US-led coalition spent a whole year pretending they were striking ISIL targets but where are the results of these strikes?” Pushkov asked during and interview with France’s Europe 1 Radio.

Max Boot, a neocon ideologue at the Council on Foreign Relations, admits the U.S. bombing campaign against ISIS is primarily smoke and mirrors.

“Obama’s strategy in Syria and Iraq is not working… (because) the U.S. bombing campaign against ISIS has been remarkably restrained,” Boot wrote for Newsweek in February.

Figures compiled by the CFR reveal the U.S. has dropped 43 bombs on ISIS per day since the campaign began. In 1991 the Pentagon dropped 6,163 bomb per day on Iraq and 1,039 in 2003. Even Bosnia, which posed no threat to the United States, saw a total of 60 bombs per day in 1995.

Earlier this week the Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam said there “is clearly no seriousness” to the war against ISIS. He added the objective is not eliminating the Islamic State but rather an effort by the West to “force their presence” in the region and worsen the situation there.

“From the very outset, this air campaign has NOT been directed against ISIS,” writes Michel Chossudovsky. “The evidence confirms that the Islamic State is not the target. Quite the opposite.”

“The air raids are intended to destroy the economic infrastructure of Iraq and Syria.”

During the first invasion of Iraq in 1991 the same principle applied.

Souad N. Al-Azzawi of the Brussels Tribunal writes that “the major goals of the bombing was not liberating Kuwait or Iraq, rather, it was the total destruction of the civilian infrastructure.”

NATO and the United States targeted civilian infrastructure of Libya as well.

The coalition “debilitated Libya’s water supply by targeting critical state-owned water installations, including a water-pipe factory in Brega,” writes Nafeez Ahmed.

NATO and the US also destroyed Yugoslavia’s civilian infrastructure, targeting schools, hospitals, farms, bridges, roads, railways, water lines, communications facilities, factories, industries and other objects necessary for the basic functioning of a modern day society, according to the Independent Commission of Inquiry Hearing to Investigate U.S./NATO War Crimes Against the People of Yugoslavia.
Pentagon Documents Reveal Real Objective

Bombing the Islamic State runs counter to the agenda revealed in Defense Intelligence Agency documents from 2012.

The documents show the United States and its partners in the Gulf states and Turkey supported the Islamic State and planned to establish a Salafist principality in Syria.

The Pentagon has admitted it “helped build ISIS” and armed the group with weapons transferred from Benghazi, Libya.

The globalist Brookings Institute also described the ultimate objective.

In June, Tony Cartalucci, citing the Brookings document, wrote that the goal is “to divide, destroy, then incrementally occupy a sovereign nation thousands of miles from America’s shores.”

Russia Condemned For Bombing Terrorists While US Bombs Hospital Killing Nine Staff, Calls It 'Collateral Damage'

While Russia has been in the crosshairs of the U.S. mainstream media and the Obama administration for their all-out attack against ISIS in Syria along with the supposed "moderate" U.S. supported Syrian rebels (who recently handed over U.S assets to al-Qaeda!), we find out  the U.S. just bombed a hospital, killing nine members of the staff of medical aid group Doctors Without Borders in the Afghan city of Kunduz.

Airstrikes killed nine staff workers of medical aid group Doctors Without Borders in the Afghan city of Kunduz, the charity said. U.S. forces said they conducted airstrikes in the area.

At least 37 people were injured in the aerial bombings early Saturday, including 24 of the medical aid organization's staff, said the group known internationally as Medecins Sans Frontieres.

Thirty people are unaccounted for, MSF said, and it expects the number of people killed or injured to go up.

This occured despite the fact that the U.S. and Afgan authorities were aware of the hospitals location and had been warned multiple times. According to the CNN report linked above "Bombing continued for more than 30 minutes after the aid group notified military officials it was under attack, it said."

Reports indicate there were a number of Taliban inside the hispital, which is why the U.S. bombed it, killing them along with the medical staff of the hospital, but it is the direct quote from Colonel Brian Tribus, that really catches the eye where he states the bombing campaign "may have resulted in collateral damage to a nearby medical facility." (Source)

THE HEIGHT OF HYPOCRISY

Just one day prior to the bombing of the Afghan hospital by the U.S. Military, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power had just sent out a stern warning publishing a "Joint Declaration on the Recent Military Actions of the Russian Federation in Syria," to her Twitter account and stating "We call on #Russia to immediately cease attacks on Syrian oppo & civilians & to focus on ISIL."

Declaration shown below:

While the UN's official response to the bombing of the hospital by the U.S. military was to "condemn" the air strike on the Médecins sans Frontières hospital in Kunduz, we have seen no "declarations" over the U.S. bombing a hospital like the one above against Russia from  France, Germany, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey or the United Kingdom.

In the video below, Russian President Vladimir Putin explains clearly to journalists who created, armed and supported the people now fighting for ISIS.

We wonder when Mr. Putin will, in turn, state the casualties in Syria of civilians to be "collateral damage" that he will investigate.

Russian Air Force hits 50 ISIS targets in Syria over 3 days, ‘significantly’ damaging militants

The Russian Air Force has conducted more than 60 flights and bombed over 50 Islamic State targets in three days, according to Russia’s top armed forces official. He added the strikes have significantly reduced the terrorists’ combat capabilities.

“The airstrikes were being conducted night and day from the Khmeimim airbase and throughout the whole of Syria. In three days we managed to undermine the terrorists’ material-technical base and significantly reduce their combat potential,” Lieutenant General Andrey Kartapolov, head of the Main Operation Directorate of the General Staff of Russia’s armed forces, told reporters on Saturday.

He added that according to Russian intelligence the militants are fleeing the area that was in their control.

“There is panic and defection among them. About 600 mercenaries have left their positions and are trying to reach Europe,” he said.

Washington has notified the Russian Defense Ministry that there were only militants in the areas of Russia’s military operation against IS in Syria, he added.  "The Americans informed us during contacts that there was no one except terrorists in this region," he said.

ISIS BLOWS UP THE ARCH OF TRIUMPH IN PALMYRA NEAR DAMASCUS IN SYRIA
Geoffrey Grider | October 4, 2015 | 13 Comments

ISLAMIC STATE MILITANTS HAVE BLOWN UP THE ARCH OF TRIUMPH, A MAJOR MONUMENT IN THE 2,000-YEAR-OLD ROMAN CITY OF PALMYRA, SYRIA’S ANTIQUITIES CHIEF SAID ON SUNDAY, AFTER THEY DESTROYED TWO ANCIENT TEMPLES AT THE CENTRAL SYRIAN SITE IN RECENT MONTHS.

“The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.” Isaiah 17:1 (KJV)

DAMASCUS – Maamoun Abdulkarim told Reuters that sources in Palmyra had confirmed that the Arch of Triumph, a jewel in the exquisite collection of ruins in the oasis city, had been blown up by Islamic State, ISIS.

Islamic State militants have blown up temples at the Roman-era UNESCO World Heritage site, which it has controlled since capturing Palmyra from Syrian government forces in May and mined other monuments and historic buildings. The group considers the buildings sacrilegious.

isis-islamic-state-destroys-triumphal-arch-palmyra-syria
The Roman-era Arch Of Triumph outside of Damascus is no longer after ISIS blow it to smithereens. Isaiah saw the day where Damascus would be leveled to a “ruinous heap”, and we are well on our way to witnessing that coming to pass.

“It’s as though there is a curse that has befallen this city and I expect only news that will shock us. If the city remains in their hands the city is doomed,” Abdulkarim told Reuters.

“IT IS NOW WANTON DESTRUCTION … THEIR ACTS OF VENGEANCE ARE NO LONGER IDEOLOGICALLY DRIVEN BECAUSE THEY ARE NOW BLOWING UP BUILDINGS WITH NO RELIGIOUS MEANING,” HE ADDED.

In August, the Sunni Muslim militants blew up the temple of Baal Shamin, then the Temple of Bel, one of the best preserved Roman-era sites.

Earlier this month it was also confirmed the militants had destroyed some of the best preserved of Palmyra’s funeral towers, sandstone constructions built to hold the remains of the ancient city’s richest families.

Palmyra was one of the most important cultural centres of the ancient world, according to cultural agency UNESCO, which has described it as the crossroads of several civilizations. Islamic State has declared a caliphate in territory it holds across Syria and Iraq and has destroyed other monuments it says are pagan and sacrilegious.

UNESCO has called such acts war crimes and says Islamic State seeks to wipe out evidence of Syria’s diverse heritage. Before the capture of the city, Syrian officials said they had moved hundreds of ancient statues to safe locations. source

IT’S WAR: PUTIN SENDING IN 150,000 GROUND TROOPS TO SYRIA TO BATTLE ISIS
Geoffrey Grider | October 5, 2015 | 32 Comments

THE RUSSIAN LEADER PUTIN IS REPORTEDLY MOUNTING AN ENORMOUS MILITARY MISSION TO TAKE CONTROL OF THE TERROR GROUP’S STRONGHOLD OF RAQQA.

“And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:” Ezekiel 38:3,4 (KJV)

EDITOR’S NOTE: While America sleeps and Obama does nothing, Putin and Russia have been a beehive of frenetic military activity. In just one week, Russia has seized control of the entire nation of Syria, partnering with Iran, and is pouring in ground troops at this very moment. Using the pretext of waging war with ISIS, Vladimir Putin is committing the perfect crime. While ostensibly taking on everyone’s mutual enemy, he is in fact creating a battlefront with Israel. You didn’t really think this had anything to do with ISIS, did you?

The city is the self-declared capital of ISIS in Syria and is patrolled by as many as 5,000 jihadi members. Putin is set to mobilise 150,000 reservists who he conscripted into the military earlier this week.

russia-putin-sending-in-150000-ground-troops-isis-syria

An insider revealed: “It is very clear that Russia wants to sweep up the west of the country, taking Raqqa and all the oil and gas resources around Palmyra. “This is fast becoming a race to Raqqa – to secure the oil fields they need to cleanse the region of insurgents, and the IS capital is vital to do that.”

IT COMES A DAY AFTER RUSSIAN JETS OBLITERATED NINE ISIS OUTPOSTS IN JUST 24 HOURS USING BUNKER-BUSTING BOMBS.

Russian jets pounded terrorist targets and blew up a command centre, potentially killing dozens of fighters. Confirming the successful raids, Andrei Kartapolov from the Russian army vowed to ramp up the pressure, saying: “We will not only continue strikes… We will also increase their intensity.”

And Russian Defence Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said: “Over the past 24 hours, Sukhoi Su-34 and Su-24M fighter jets have performed 20 sorties and hit nine Islamic State installations.”

“A BUNKER-BUSTING BETAB-500 AIR BOMB DROPPED FROM A SUKHOI SU-34 BOMBER NEAR RAQQA HAS ELIMINATED THE COMMAND POST OF ONE OF THE TERROR GROUPS, TOGETHER WITH AN UNDERGROUND STORAGE FACILITY FOR EXPLOSIVES AND MUNITIONS.”

“These and other highly exact means of attack in recent days have been used to target objects of Islamic State terrorists. “Command posts, stores of weapons and oil products, workshops where weapons of suicide bombers are made.”

Meanwhile a terrorism expert revealed to Express.co.uk that ISIS have vastly exaggerated their military strength and called on Western leaders to launch a co-ordinated fightback which would obliterate the hate group.

Dr Afzal Ashraf said ISIS has become its own worst enemy with its campaign of terror against the West, which has prompted an international backlash.

He said: “This mythical state will disappear in a matter of hours once the international community decides to act.

“It won’t take very long at all to drive them, if not out of all of Iraq or Syria, then certainly the majority of their territories.  “They will hide in towns, but I would say do not to follow them as they would use innocent civilians as human shields.”

David Cameron initially gave the Russian air strikes a cautious welcome and said the UK would need to look “very carefully” at Putin’s operations. But yesterday he warned the intervention is making the situation worse and helping to support the “butcher” president Bashar Assad.

Seperately Mr Cameron pledged to “beef up” the SAS and double the number of British drones to combat ISIS militants in an interview ahead of today’s Conservative conference. The Prime Minister said investment in special forces and surveillance was essential to meeting the terrorist threat facing the UK.

He revealed that the UK will buy a fleet of 20 new Protector drones capable of targeting IS extremists in Iraq and Syria. source

IRAN, RUSSIA, SYRIA, AND IRAQ FORMING A JOINT MILITARY TASK FORCE WAR ROOM
Geoffrey Grider | October 5, 2015 | 10 Comments

A SENIOR IRANIAN MILITARY LEADER WARNED THIS WEEKEND THAT “ALL U.S. MILITARY BASES IN THE MIDDLE EAST ARE WITHIN THE RANGE OF” IRAN’S MISSILES AND EMPHASIZED THAT THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC WILL CONTINUE TO BREAK INTERNATIONAL BANS ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF BALLISTIC MISSILES.

“For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:” Psalm 83:5 (KJV)

EDITOR’S NOTE: Everyone has been so focused ISIS as the creator of the Islamic caliphate, when in reality it looks like that caliphate will be Iran, Russia, Syria and Iraq. Russia has effectively squeezed America out of the picture, forming alliances all across the Middle East. How blinded has America become? So blind that the Ayatollah can declare they have missiles pointed at America, as they do in this story, and Obama is still able to sell the Iranian Nuclear Deal to a dead, asleep American public.  Prepare for impact in 3..2..1..

Much of this missile work, like the details of Iran’s advanced arsenal, remains secret, according to Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Aerospace Force.

Hajizadeh dismissed the threat of military action by the United States, warning that all U.S. assets and allies are in range of Iran’s current missile arsenal, according to comments made Sunday in Tehran and recorded by Iran’s state-controlled Fars News Agency.

iran-has-missiles-pointed-at-american-targets

THE THREATS OF ATTACK ON THE UNITED STATES WERE ISSUED AS IRAN UNVEILED NEW HIGH-TECH TORPEDOES AND THE FORMATION OF A JOINT WAR ROOM ALONG WITH RUSSIA, SYRIA, AND IRAQ.

“Some of the threats by the U.S. are aimed at appeasing the Zionists, while others are for the purpose of domestic consumption (in the U.S.), but what is important is that they are aware of and acknowledge our capabilities and deterrence power,” Hajizadeh was quoted as saying.

“We do not feel any need to increase the range of our missiles and (our perceived enemy) targets are fully within the range of our missiles,” he added.

IRAN WILL NOT SLOW DOWN THE RESEARCH AND CONSTRUCTION OF ADVANCED MISSILES, THE IRGC LEADER SAID, DESPITE INTERNATIONAL BANS ON SUCH ACTION.

“We do not see any restriction for our missiles and the IRGC’s preparedness and missile drills are conducted without a halt and according to our annual time-table, but only some of them are publicized through the media,” Hajizadeh said.

The comments echo those of IRGC Navy Commander Ali Fadavi, who warned last month that “the U.S. knows the damages of any war and firing bullets in the Persian Gulf.”

“THE U.S. IS OBEDIENT AND PASSIVE IN THE PERSIAN GULF AND WE IMPOSE OUR SOVEREIGNTY RIGHT IN THE PERSIAN GULF VERY POWERFULLY,” FADAVI SAID.

The Pentagon confirmed last month that Iranian warships confront the U.S. Navy on a “daily basis.” Iran’s renewed war rhetoric and anti-U.S. posturing comes amid reports that Iran and Russia have taken the lead in Syria, where both countries are working to bolster the embattled President Bashar al-Assad.

A SENIOR IRANIAN OFFICIAL DISCLOSED OVER THE WEEKEND THAT IRAN, RUSSIA, SYRIAN, AND IRAQ ARE WORKING ON FORMING A JOINT WAR ROOM TO COORDINATE OPERATIONS IN THE REGION.

The “information exchange center” would be the first step in formalizing a joint operations center to coordinate military efforts in Syria and elsewhere, according to political adviser to Iraq Mohsen Hakim, head of the country’s Islamic Supreme Council.

“The information center has been formed some days ago after six months of discussions,” Hakim was quoted as telling Fars. Information obtained by this operations center would be disseminated to officials from each participating country, according to Hakim, including the Russian and Syrian armies.

“Hakim underlined that the information center can be a preliminary step to set up a joint operations room or Centcom,” Fars reported.

Syrian officials have welcomed Iran and Russia’s military assistance in campaign against terrorism. “Syria welcomes Iran and Russia’s military partnership in fight against the ISIL in Syria and assumes the efforts made by these countries as legal, distant from the double-standards and in line with safeguarding our national security,” Jamal Rabe’eh, a senior Syrian legislator, told FNA in September.

Meanwhile, Iran unveiled a new high-tech torpedo that it claims can hit targets both in and out of the water. The technology for the missile has been borrowed from the Russians, according to Iranian officials who spoke to Fars. source

Putin has sent the feared Spetsnaz special forces into Syria to bail out Assad

The move is a blow to Britain and America’s mission to wipe out ISIS but maintain an opposition to brutal dictator President Bashar al-Assad

Russia has sent its crack special troops into Syria to back up President Bashar al-Assad’s bid to wipe out his opposition.

Vladimir Putin’s feared Spetsnaz unit and a covert para battalion ghosted into the war-torn country and are preparing for an all-out assault on rebels fighting the regime – including moderate units such as the western-backed Free Syrian Army.

A military source said: “Putin’s marines are there to guard the airbases they are using against sabotage by rebels.

"But Spetsnaz and air-assault troops are not there to provide security to static objects, they are extremely aggressive and highly trained.

“They are there to mop up after air strikes, call in air strikes, go on extremely covert missions against rebels and ultimately wipe them out.

“And they will not be as accountable as British or US special forces. They are there for one reason, to wipe out anyone threatening Assad. By any means.

"And by doing that they will be consolidating Russia’s position on the Med and in the Middle East.”

Putin claims the mission is to defeat IS – but his warplanes have been helping Assad by smashing rebel positions.

Most of the targets in Northern Syria have been al-Qaeda affiliates or less extreme rebel groups opposed to the leader, some of which are CIA-trained and MI6-backed.

Spetsnaz – Special Purpose Soldiers – have been joined by the 7th Air Assault Mountain Division.

They are among Russia’s toughest and most shadowy troops, many of whom have fought dirty wars in Chechnya where they built up a deep hatred of jihadists.

They went on bloody revenge missions against local jihad units to punish them for atrocities against Russian troops and civilians.

America has vowed to step up its attacks on IS in reaction to Putin’s air strikes on Assad’s opponents.

And Nato today urged Russia to end its rebel attacks and focus on beating IS.

Saudi clerics called on Muslim countries to back holy war against Syria and its Iranian and Russian backers.

The Sunni-ruled land is suspected of supporting al-Qaeda and IS against Shia supporters of Assad. Saudi has joined air strikes on IS in Syria.
