It states: “The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem. “During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.”

Sen. Church Grassley’s probe into high-profile television ministries may be over, but the ranking member of the Committee on Finance’s investigation has led to the formation of a new commission on accountability and policy issues for churches and other religious organizations.

Grassley reviewed the activities and practices of six media-based ministries—Joyce Meyer Ministries, Kenneth Copeland Ministries, Creflo Dollar Ministries, Bishop Eddie Long Ministries, Benny Hinn Ministries, and Paula White Ministries—and found no wrongdoing.

Id say they didnt look hard enough.

Congressman says two TV evangelists make internal reforms in wake of questions
U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, says Joyce Meyer Ministries and Benny Hinn's World Healing Center are making internal reforms in the wake of his financial inquiry.

Joyce Meyer Ministries is undertaking internal reforms in the wake of a congressional inquiry into its finances, Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, said Monday.

The extent of the changes is unclear. Grassley's staff declined to elaborate.

And Roby Walker, a spokesman for the Missouri-based Joyce Meyer Ministries, founded by popular TV evangelist Joyce Meyer, said the specifics were being worked out.

The action comes nearly a year after Grassley, the top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, launched an inquiry into six ministries including Meyer's.

Grassley said at the time that he was disturbed by reports about preachers living lavishly while their tax-exempt churches escaped scrutiny. The Finance Committee oversees tax laws and the IRS.

Grassley said Monday that Joyce Meyer Ministries and one other ministry, Texas-based Benny Hinn's World Healing Center Church, had been very cooperative with his inquiry and were taking internal steps to address concerns about their financial dealings.

The two ministries have engaged in “open and honest dialogue” with the committee staff, Grassley said in a statement. “Both Joyce Meyer and Benny Hinn have indicated that they are also instituting reforms without waiting for the committee to complete its review,” he said.

Four other ministries have declined to cooperate or have provided incomplete information, Grassley said. Those are Randy and Paula White of Without Walls International Church; Eddie Long of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church; Kenneth and Gloria Copeland of Kenneth Copeland Ministries; and Creflo and Taffi Dollar of World Changers Church International.

Although Grassley's inquiry is ongoing, his office released some initial findings Monday.

For example, the committee staff has found there are almost 100 entities related to the six churches and their respective ministers. It's unclear whether the entities are for-profit or nonprofit and whether they provide some financial benefit to the churches, Grassley's staff said.

Grassley's staff also said some ministries might be involved in intimidating potential whistle-blowers by reminding employees about confidentiality agreements and threatening them with lawsuits if those are breached.

Jill Gerber, a Grassley spokeswoman, declined to say which ministries were involved in such activity, noting that the investigation is ongoing.

Is Congress Turning Off Your Televangelist?

Christian broadcasters speak out against a new measure from Rep. Steve Scalise.

Congress is trying to take televangelists from your televisions.

That's the argument from faith-based broadcasters who are pushing to preserve the nation's "must-carry" rules. The rules, which date back to 1992, require cable and satellite companies to pick up local broadcast affiliates—even the small, less popular stations.

Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., is pushing legislation to scrap those rules as part of a broader effort to deregulate the airways. Online video and expansive satellite lineups have given consumers so many options that the government no longer needs to decide who carries what, Scalise said.

But local broadcasters say they provide a public good, and therefore providers should be barred from dropping them in favor of potentially more lucrative outside programming

And that's where televangelists come in. By and large, their sermons aren't carried by major networks, making them more vulnerable if providers are suddenly relieved of their mandate to carry local programming. Under Scalise's bill, if DISH Network decides another channel can bring in more money than local Christian network affiliates, it's under no obligation to keep bringing viewers their daily dose of Pat Robertson.

The bill "would be a significant detriment to a number of Christian TV stations and the viewers who rely on them for spiritual guidance," said National Religious Broadcasters President Dr. Jerry Johnson. "These long-standing carriage rules ensure that viewers can access the important and edifying programming their local Christian broadcasters offer free-of-charge."

Still, there seems to be some confusion about which broadcasters would be affected by the measure. Stephen Bell, Scalise's communications director, said that "noncommercial" broadcasters would get to keep their must-carry protections, but he would not specify if networks such as CBN, Trinity Broadcasting Network, and Eternal Word Television Network would qualify for that exemption.

NRB's vice president of government relations, Aaron Mercer, could only offer that "there are religious stations that fall into both categories." Must-carry rules mostly apply to smaller stations; affiliates of big networks often waive their carriage guarantees in order to negotiate payments for their broadcasts. But for many religious stations that don't have the bargaining power of popular prime-time programming, must-carry is their ticket into many of their viewers' homes.

I'm trying to see a reason for mandating the carrying of those stations in the first place. Why are they given an advantage in the marketplace? If people don't want to watch, you shouldn't be forced to carry the product. DISH and others are allegedly private companies, free to compete in the market place, so what place does government have in legislating what products they carry? They really don't have any say, but government has made it it's place through laws relating to "decency" and created the FCC to promote and enforce the government's agenda.

The truth is, the vast majority of those small "Christian" stations are offering shows that lead people astray through the false doctrines of churchianity. so they really shouldn't be on the air anyway.
