Macy's: 'transgenders' trumps religious beliefs

Macy's is accused of firing an employee who objected to allowing a cross-dresser to use women's dressing rooms in one of its stores.

Natalie Johnson observed a man exiting a women's dressing room in one of San Antonio's several Macy's stores and politely told him he could not re-enter because it was for the exclusive use of women. Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel tells OneNewsNow the male customer -- who was wearing make-up and girl's clothing -- angrily responded that he was a "female."

"Then [he] contacted the management and said that this was an LGBT-friendly store," the attorney explains. "And to Natalie Johnson's surprise, management took the customer's position and affirmed that it is an LGBT-friendly store and said that according to their policy  'transgendered' people can change in any dressing room they want."

Johnson pointed out to management the consequences of the policy, the potential danger to women and offensiveness of the policy, as well as that it violated her religious beliefs. She was fired.

"Natalie's situation represents what we're going to see around the country if we have this LBGT agenda continue to advance. It literally has become the theatre of the absurd," Staver offers.
need to get rid of all those haters

"This policy at Macy's is fraught with problems -- it will alienate and offend the majority of their customers, particularly women," he continues. "They obviously do not, nor should they have to put up with, men using the women's fitting rooms."

Staver is hopeful customers of Macy's nationwide will contact the firm and ask officials to redraft the policy to a commonsense one -- that being that women's fitting rooms are for women and men's rooms for men.

Macy’s Transvestite Problem Not Isolated to Single Incident

Apparently, the Macy’s in San Antonio isn’t the only one with transvestites looking to change clothes in the women’s dressing room.

Liberty Counsel reports that another Macy’s employee has contacted the group to tell her story about repeated issues with men using the women's fitting rooms. The individual asked to remain anonymous out of fear of losing her job.

The employee said she constantly has to ask men to leave the women's fitting rooms. What’s more, she has been asked numerous times by mothers who have daughters in the fitting rooms to please ask the men to leave the women's dressing rooms.

With the Christmas shopping season in full swing, customers around the country are sending Macy's a message that such a bizarre policy is not acceptable.

One woman posted on Macy's Facebook page that her family normally spends $2,000 at Macy's and she is planning to boycott the store. Others are shredding their Macy's credit cards and closing their accounts.

"Macy's policy that allows men to use the women's fitting rooms makes no sense,” says Mathew Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel. “This policy has put at risk every woman shopper who enters one of these rooms. While attempting to cater to a radical LGBT agenda, Macy's has alienated almost the entirety of its customer base."

Indeed, the chorus of voices opposing Macy's disturbing dressing room policy is growing louder as more troubling incidents are coming to light. The message will become increasingly clear that the majority of the American people are not in line with the radical Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender, or LGBT, agenda.

The story of Macy's LGBT policy which allows men to use the women's fitting rooms came to light when Macy's fired Natalie Johnson from its San Antonio store after she politely told a clearly identified man that he could not re-enter the women's fitting rooms.

Quote
Consumers contributing to sex-change operations?

The Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest homosexual activist group, is lauding companies that provide medical coverage to change one's gender.

The campaign has set up a workplace equality scorecard that registers how pro-homosexual and pro-transgender companies are. But Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH) tells OneNewsNow that is only the starting point.

"They continually ratchet up the demands of the scorecard so that every year companies are doing more and more extreme pro-homosexual, pro-transgender advocacy," he explains.

According to The Associated Press, the number of major U.S. companies that cover the cost of gender-reassignment surgery has more than doubled in the past year.

Peter LaBarbera (AFTAH)"A corporation needs to fund transgender 'sex-change,' so-called, operations with corporate funds," LaBarbera tells about what it takes to earn 100 percent on the HRC scorecard. "So they added the funding of these radical, gross, transsexual sex-change operations to get the 100-percent ranking."

That means the customers at those business are helping finance and encourage the "disfiguring" procedures.

"So, what a smart consumer should do is take a look at the Human Rights Campaign workplace scorecard for corporations and just go to the opposite places," the AFTAH president suggests. "Go to the place with the lower ranking."

Last year, 85 companies had insurance plans that covered sex-transformations surgeries, and only 49 did in 2009. But none offered that coverage a decade ago, when the campaign launched the effort. To maintain a 100 percent and a listing in the HRC-preferred vendors' guide, LaBarbera concludes that company must be "totally sold out to the homosexual, bisexual, transgender agenda."

Some of the companies that expanded their insurance coverage this year to include sex-change surgery are Apple, Chevron, General Mills, American Airlines, Kellogg, Sprint, Levi Strauss, Best Buy, Nordstrom, Whirlpool, Xerox, Raytheon, and Office Depot.

So, pretty much every major corporation. And in order to boycott those companies you pretty much have to avoid the world in general because those companies are tied together through mulitple companies, like General Mills, that company is HUGE and includes a massive amount of "top" brands in the grocery store. Hmm.

Trans-Sexual Oversees Macy's Female Fitting Rooms

Transvestites in the women's fitting rooms? It's an issue that has--and is--causing an uproar for Macy's. And the issue is not going away.

Indeed, tens of thousands of people have signed onto Liberty Counsel's open letter asking Macy's to change its policy that permits men dressing as women to use women's fitting rooms. Liberty Counsel has delivered the letter to Macy's. Now, the ball is in the retailer's court, even as new evidence rolls in about Macy's unbiblical practices.

For example, just last week it came to light that a mother and her daughter were subjected to trying on clothes in a Macy's women's dressing room supervised by a trans-sexual (man presenting as a woman) at the Galleria Mall in Dallas. His job supervising the fitting rooms means that he escorts women and young girls to the dressing rooms, enters the dressing rooms to clean out the clothes, and even provides different sized items to women while they are trying on their clothes.

Other reports are coming in from women around the country indicating that at various Macy's stores men are routinely allowed to simply "hang out" in the women's dressing rooms. In these situations, the men were identifying as men. Mothers wanting to protect their young children have repeatedly asked store employees to tell the men to leave. In some situations employees refused to do so, claiming fear of a lawsuit.

"Macy's is forcing its morality, or in this case, immorality, on all of its female shoppers," says Mathew Staver, founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel. "Just as a person who is fvie feet tall, but thinks of himself as six feet tall, doesn't change his height."

Liberty Counsel's open letter, signed onto by tens of thousands, states:

As an American who recognizes the crucial importance of cultural boundaries and same gender guidelines to the welfare of any society, I am appalled by your corporate decision to allow LGBT people to use whatever changing facilities they choose in Macy's stores. This policy is both misguided and absurd. It creates an unnecessary threat to the comfort and safety of your customers and helps undermine the stability of our society! I am deeply concerned that pro-homosexual activism has brought your organization to enact such a poorly thought-out policy.

I applaud Natalie Johnson's resolve to stand up for what she knew to be right and deny a male access to women's facilities!  Macy's policy, which allows men to use the women's dressing room and vice-versa, is fraught with problems. This policy will cause significant issues and will alienate the majority of Macy's customers. I call on Macy's to do the right thing by reinstating Natalie Johnson and reversing this absurd policy.

Office Depot’s ‘Apology’ To Pro-Lifers Could Use Some Major Work
At least Office Depot's CEO finally backed down after repeatedly defending its refusal of service.

Office Depot CEO Roland Smith apologized on Friday to a Roman Catholic Chicago woman one of his stores refused a service to in August. Maria Goldstein went to an Office Depot in Schaumburg, a suburb of Chicago, asking for 500 copies of a pro-life prayer. The Schaumburg outlet originally said copying the prayer violated its company policy that prohibits copying items that advocate the persecution of certain groups of people. Company spokeswoman Karen Denning told the Chicago Tribune the prayer “contained material that advocates the persecution of people who support abortion rights.” Later, the company issued a statement saying the prayer “is not a clear violation of the company’s policy.”

Then the statement says:

‘We sincerely apologize to Ms. Goldstein for her experience and our initial reaction was not at all related to her religious beliefs. We invite her to return to Office Depot if she still wishes to print the flyer,’ said Roland Smith, chairman and chief executive officer, Office Depot.

Office Depot should be free to reject copying anything for any reason, in my book. In a free country, companies should be free to run their business however they see fit. If they want to send a hostile message to Roman Catholics, pro-lifers, and people who pray, that’s their business. Those of us in those categories are free to take our business elsewhere.

Still, it’s good that Office Depot apologized to Goldstein precisely because her copy request didn’t appear to come even close to violating their stated policy. The company’s claim that the prayer is no longer considered a “clear” violation of the company’s policy makes it seem like it arguably could be a violation of the company’s policy. While recognizing, again, that they should be free to reject any project they want, that’s a ridiculous claim. Let’s look at their policy, and then the prayer. First up, the portion of their statement that explains their policy:

Office Depot has contacted Ms. Goldsteins’s representative to explain that the store associate’s decision to decline a print order was in no way based on religious beliefs, but on the fact that it contained certain words and phrases that could be construed as graphic or advocates the persecution of groups of people, which is a violation of the company’s copy and print policy.

Office Depot has long maintained a policy of not allowing associates to print items that violate copyright laws, advocate persecution of any group or contain graphic material.

Here, again, some background is in order. A nonprofit law firm called the Thomas More Society sent a demand letter to Office Depot on Sept. 10 challenging the company’s refusal as religious discrimination and a violation of the Cook County Human Rights Ordinance. When Goldstein complained to corporate higher ups, the company stood by the refusal. Thomas More Society let Office Depot know it would be pursuing action with the Cook County Human Rights Commission and the Illinois Department of Human Rights. So this response from Office Depot is all about covering its behind on the religious discrimination claim.

But what’s with this absolutely bizarre charge about advocacy of persecution? Does the prayer actually call for persecution of those who support and perform fetal organ harvesting and other aspects of the abortion trade?

Hardly.

That is, unless we’re going to say that Christianity in general is persecuting the world by praying for it. You can read Goldstein’s flyer here. It has a variety of statistics including information about Planned Parenthood’s receipt of government funds, the taxpayer funding the corporation receives, the corporation’s revenue and assets, its recent decrease in cancer prevention services, the number of abortions Planned Parenthood has performed (327,653 in 2013 alone). The sheet also discusses the federally qualified health centers that provide health services to low-income populations without also performing abortions and provides a link to videos of PP execs discussing the harvesting of human organs from aborted babies.

I assume we’re on the same page that no matter your view on the morality of human organ harvesting from aborted babies, this does not constitute “persecution.” Which leaves us with … the prayer. Here it is in its entirety:

Prayer for the Conversion of Planned Parenthood
Join in prayer and fasting Aug. 22-29

Lord for whom all things are possible, We are confronted once again today with the evil of the abortion industry and the corruption found in the world’s largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood.

Lord, we pray for all who plan to be parents, and we ask your mercy on those who teach others to reject parenthood. In light of your Word, Lord, we affirm today that children are a blessing from you, and that the origin of all parenthood is likewise in You, the God of life and love.

Therefore, Oh God, we stand against the evil that has been exposed in Planned Parenthood and in the entire abortion industry. We stand today for the triumph of truth over falsehood, of light over darkness, and of life over death.

Bring an end to the killing of children in the womb, and bring an end to the sale of their body parts. Bring conversion to all who do this, and enlightenment to all who advocate it.

Close the doors of the death camps in our midst, and open the doors of your mercy and healing! Close the grisly trade in baby body parts. And open the abundant gifts of your salvation and life!

Hasten the day when our land will no longer be stained with innocent blood, and when the bodies of all your children will be raised from the dead and set free forever. We pray in the name of Jesus the Lord. Amen!

Perhaps Office Depot supports the ending of human life in the womb and doesn’t want to help those who oppose the violence of abortion. That’s their business. But to claim that this prayer, composed by Rev. Frank Pavone, the national director of the pro-life group Priests for Life, is even arguably one calling for persecution of those who support aborting children is grossly unfair. It prays for their mercy, conversion, and enlightenment.

If Office Depot believes that praying for the mercy, conversion, and enlightenment of those who harvest human organs from unborn children is even arguably persecution, they simply have to see how that sounds like they have a problem with Christianity in general. If Office Depot will only print prayers that can be found at a Unitarian Universalist church, that’s their business and it should be their right (even if Illinois and Cook County disagree).

My Lutheran congregation had a special prayer service on Saturday for victims of abortion. Our prayers tend to emphasize our own sin more than Pavone’s prayer does. We also tend to emphasize the forgiveness of sins more than this prayer. But as for calling for mercy, conversion, and enlightenment of those who engage in the killing and human organ harvesting of those in the womb, we’re certainly in agreement. So if a prayer that orthodox Christians of various stripes can and do pray is potentially over the line for Office Depot, they should explain how that’s not religious discrimination. Ceasing the claim that these prayers are arguably a call for persecution would be a good step toward that end.
