The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. They've made like 4 Alien movies(no, not counting other spoofs they did like Alien vs Predator).

The first one was directly by Ridley Scott, the 2nd James Cameron, the 3rd David Fincher - in each case, each of the directors went on not only to have wildly successful careers, but alot of their films have been VERY NWO on a demonic spiritual level.(ie-Scott's "Blade Runner", Cameron's "The Abyss", and Fincher's "Fight Club")

Many of those gathered at WonderCon--a smaller-scale Comic-Con held Saturday at the Anaheim Convention Center--arrived eager to see Fox pull back the curtain on Prometheus, director Ridley Scott's return to the sci-fi genre.

The project is perhaps the most intriguing movie of the year, since very little is known about it even though it's scheduled to hit theaters on June 8. Many are still wondering if it's a sequel to Scott's sci-fi horror classic Alien, a prequel, or something else entirely.

The answers were finally revealed (sort of) when Scott, the film's co-writer Damon Lindelof and co-star Charlize Theron presented an extended trailer Saturday afternoon--which might only have raised more questions.

This seems to be the major themes in movies in particular since the turn of the century.

Did 'Prometheus' just become the hottest movie of the summer?

At every fan convention, there's always one thing that becomes the talk of the show, and at this year's just-completed WonderCon in Anaheim, Calif., that thing was "Prometheus." The new science fiction epic from director Ridley Scott ("Alien," "Blade Runner") and writer Damon Lindelof ("Lost") opens on June 8, and until now only one cryptic trailer and a few photos have been shown to the public. But all that changed on Saturday, when Scott, Lindelof, and two of the film's stars, Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender, were on hand for the premiere of a brand-new, two-and-a-half-minute trailer that provided reams of new info, opened up a whole new wealth of questions, and lit both the convention and the Internet on fire with its sheer scope and ambition.

"The Dark Knight Rises" may still be the most anticipated film of the summer, but "Prometheus" has just vaulted into second place and is nipping at the Caped Crusader's heels. The new trailer is that good, and the levels of awe and mystery and excitement around the film have risen dramatically in a short amount of time.

What is "Prometheus"? Well, if it ends up as successful creatively as hinted by what we've glimpsed so far, it could hit a particular sweet spot for us at Parallel Universe: a combination of sci-fi, horror and action that is simultaneously mind-blowing, terrifying and visceral. There is no greater combination than the awe of the best science fiction and the dread inherent in the finest horror, yet few films have seamlessly merged the two while also telling an exciting, suspenseful and involving story. Scott is one of the filmmakers to achieve that, with "Alien," and it's perhaps no coincidence that his first genre film in 30 years is a return to that movie's universe.

That's right -- even though Scott and Lindelof, at a press conference after the panel, insist it's not a direct prequel to "Alien," you can see from the scenes in the trailer that the story brings in the long-dead "space jockey" (who doesn't appear to be dead here at all), his ship, xenomorphs of some type and possibly even some with familiar shapes. "It would have been really difficult to do a straight-up 'Alien' sequel or prequel because you're beholden to so many of the things that came before it," says Lindelof. "This was Ridley's idea. From the screenwriting standpoint, for me, it was really just all about getting a clear sense of what was the movie that he wanted to make."

That movie follows the crew of the spaceship Prometheus as it embarks on a quest to track down the cosmic beings that left clues of their existence embedded in eight different ancient Earth civilizations. The trailer gives hints of powerful, large-scale action sequences as well as nightmarish confrontations with entities beyond our understanding, yet Scott is reluctant to put specific tags on his film. "The bottom line is just to make a good movie," says the acclaimed director. "Just make a f---ing good movie. It's got nothing to do with horror or whatever. That's why there's only a few really, really great ones. Thereafter, there are only evolutions of copycats."

"In this day and age, when you're trying to market a movie, you say, 'It's a romance. It's a comedy' ... neither of those are inherent in 'Prometheus,' although there are funny scenes and romantic scenes," elaborates Lindelof. "I think there's a lot of action-adventure elements to this movie, in terms of looking at it in comparison to the original 'Alien.' But the fact that we can't really put it in that box of 'It's this' is refreshing. I think that there's a quiet suspense to the movie. It really takes its time. If you have a master filmmaker who's working with incredibly talented actors, you just have to say, 'We're going to be patient. We do not need to have things exploding every 10 minutes.' It's a little bit of an old-school approach to filmmaking, in that it trusts the audience to have a little bit of patience."

What we're hoping is that our patience pays off in the kind of visionary, truly mind-bending yet also frightening science fiction thriller that only comes along once every decade or so ("2001," "Alien" and "The Matrix" stand out, while "Sunshine" and "Inception" are more recent candidates to that particular hall of fame). And if "Prometheus" is enough of a hit to warrant a sequel, Lindelof and Scott have one in mind that could take the story not straight into the opening scenes of "Alien," but somewhere else entirely.

"If there were a sequel to this movie, it would not be 'Alien,'" insists Lindelof. "There's an inevitability, in watching a prequel, where you're like, 'OK, if the ending of this movie is just going to be the room that John Hurt walks into, that's full of eggs, there's nothing interesting in that because we know where it's going to end.' With really good stories, you don't know where it's going to end. So this movie, hopefully, will contextualize the original 'Alien,' so that when you watch it again, maybe you know a little bit more."

But, Lindelof adds, "If we're fortunate enough to do a sequel to 'Prometheus,' it will tangentialize even further away from the original 'Alien.' When you go to the concert that is this movie, you want the Stones to play 'Satisfaction.' There is this sense of us saying, 'We want you to do something new, Ridley, but just give us a little bit of space jockey. Just play it! Even in the encore.' And, I think Ridley has given us the movie that we all want to see."

http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-talk/prometheus-explained-behind-name-233515501.html

‘Prometheus’ explained: What’s behind the name?

In the movie "Prometheus," a sci-fi thriller and prequel to "Alien," moviegoers may be wondering about the meaning of the name.

The story focuses on a galactic ship called "Prometheus," which is on a search for the origins of humanity. Things don't exactly turn out as planned: The explorers must deal with some kind of alien menace outside the ship, along with fear and loathing that sets in with the crew.

So why are the space vessel and the movie named for a figure in Greek mythology?

The myth itself is this: Prometheus, a Titan, is credited with having made the human race out of clay. According to Edith Hamilton's book "Mythology," the name Prometheus means "forethought," and he was "very wise, wiser even than the gods."

Prometheus was said to have been so enthralled by his human creation that he stole fire from the gods to help the humans along.

Zeus punished Prometheus for his crime with an unimaginable torture -- chaining him to a rock and having an eagle eat his liver. The organ grew back at night, and every day, the eagle came back to peck it out.

In modern times, the story of the Titan has tended to be more of a cautionary tale for humans as the unintended consequences of scientific discovery. In fact, the full title of Mary Shelley's book "Frankenstein" is "The Modern Prometheus."

The ship isn't the first to be named from mythology. In "Alien," the escape craft is called "Narcissus."

In the latest Ridley Scott movie, we can probably take the name of the ship to be a subtle hint of what's to come. It's safe to say it's nothing good.

The only tv I pretty much watch is "NCIS" and the NBA Playoffs(at least for now) - this movie is rated R, but they were really, really pushing the ads during the basketball games for weeks(unlike all of the other overhyped "blockbusters"), despite the fact that younger audiences generally are the majority for the NBA.

Hhhhmmm...remember it wasn't too long ago, after Columbine and before 9/11, when the government was trying to crackdown on marketing R-rated movies to teens? Where's all the outrage over it now?

'Madagascar 3' Powers Past 'Prometheus' With $60.3M at Box Office

Family audiences turned out in droves for "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted," pushing the DreamWorks Animation CGI sequel to a better-than-expected $60.3 million weekend at the U.S. box office.

Big turnouts on Saturday and Sunday pushed it past Fox and Ridley Scott's "Prometheus," which had led after taking in $21.4 million Friday, and went on to an impressive $50 million for the weekend.

<skip>

"Prometheus" added another $39.2 million overseas, on 8,263 screens in 50 markets. That gives it an overall international gross of $91.5 million in two weeks.

Like mentioned in another thread, they are rolling out these movies in overseas markets almost immediately, instead of waiting at least a few weeks nowdays.

“Prometheus”: A Movie About Alien Nephilim and Esoteric Enlightenment

he science fiction movie “Prometheus” explores theories on the origins of humanity and their relation to extra-terrestrial visitors. While most might find this premise very “fictional”, many aspects of the movie actually symbolically reflect some beliefs and philosophies of the occult elite. We’ll look at the esoteric meaning of the movie “Prometheus”.

Get ready for a facehug! 'Aliens' gets an (interactive) sequel

It's been almost three decades since "Aliens" first arrived in theaters, but on Tuesday the iconic science fiction film filled with evil aliens, badass space marines and nefarious corporate shenanigans is getting a brand new sequel.

It just so happens that this sequel is one you can play.

It's called "Aliens: Colonial Marines" and it's a video game — but it isn't your average game/movie tie-in. The development company behind "Colonial Marines" — Gearbox Software — is calling it the "true sequel" to the beloved second film in the Aliens series. And the Hollywood studio in charge of the franchise — 20th Century Fox — officially considers the game canon in the Aliens universe.

What that means is, "Aliens: Colonial Marines" is carving itself a unique place in the increasingly blurred space where film and games meet. It also means that if you've ever wanted to set foot inside the wondrous, horrifying, Xenomorph-infested Aliens universe (and fend off a deadly alien facehugger or 20) then here's your chance.

"Everybody at Gearbox wanted to do something in the Aliens universe, but we didn't want to just kind of play around in it," John Mulkey, Design Director at Gearbox Software, told me in a recent interview. "We wanted to do something really meaningful."

Of course, one of the things that made the 1986 James Cameron-directed "Aliens" such a memorable thrill-ride of a film was the colorful cast of space marines who joined Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) on her journey to the planet known as LV-426. Mulkey says Gearbox has set out to continue that Cameron vision. With that in mind, "Aliens: Colonial Marines" not only expands on the film's story, it sets out to extend the marines' experience to the audience. And it does both in some unique ways.
