False Flag
A series of CIA memos describes how Israeli Mossad agents posed as American spies to recruit members of the terrorist organization Jundallah to fight their covert war against Iran.

Buried deep in the archives of America's intelligence services are a series of memos, written during the last years of President George W. Bush's administration, that describe how Israeli Mossad officers recruited operatives belonging to the terrorist group Jundallah by passing themselves off as American agents. According to two U.S. intelligence officials, the Israelis, flush with American dollars and toting U.S. passports, posed as CIA officers in recruiting Jundallah operatives -- what is commonly referred to as a "false flag" operation.

The memos, as described by the sources, one of whom has read them and another who is intimately familiar with the case, investigated and debunked reports from 2007 and 2008 accusing the CIA, at the direction of the White House, of covertly supporting Jundallah -- a Pakistan-based Sunni extremist organization. Jundallah, according to the U.S. government and published reports, is responsible for assassinating Iranian government officials and killing Iranian women and children.

But while the memos show that the United States had barred even the most incidental contact with Jundallah, according to both intelligence officers, the same was not true for Israel's Mossad. The memos also detail CIA field reports saying that Israel's recruiting activities occurred under the nose of U.S. intelligence officers, most notably in London, the capital of one of Israel's ostensible allies, where Mossad officers posing as CIA operatives met with Jundallah officials.

Nuclear smuggling monitors cut back

Program intended to detect potential threats aimed at U.S.

The federal government is dramatically cutting back on funds to install nuclear and radiation detection equipment in overseas megaports to scan the contents of shipping containers destined for the United States, according to a report from Joseph Farah’s G2 Bulletin.

The National Nuclear Security Administration, or NNSA, has completed only 42 of 100 planned megaport projects in 31 countries, spending some $850 million. However, NNSA, which is part of the U.S. Department of Energy, is about to sustain an 85-percent reduction in its fiscal year 2013 budget.

The cut has prompted officials to shift their focus from providing new megaports with radiation detection equipment to sustaining the existing facilities. As a consequence, NNSA has suspended ongoing negotiations and canceled planned deployments of equipment in five countries.

According to its mission statement, the NNSA is responsible for the management and security of the country’s nuclear weapons, nuclear non-proliferation and naval reactor programs. It also responds to nuclear and radiological emergencies in the U.S. and overseas.

The agency also is responsible for ensuring the safe and secure transportation of nuclear weapons and components and special nuclear materials to their destination.

An analysis by the Government Accountability Office, or GAO, the investigative arm of the U.S. Congress, found that effectiveness in NNSA’s initiative is limited, apparently with the existing major seaports.

That could have an impact on installing and overseeing future equipment to detect the smuggling of nuclear and radiological materials.

“Without a long-term plan for ensuring countries’ ability to continue megaports operations, NNSA cannot be assured that its $850 million investment will be sustained,” the GAO said in the report.

“Moreover, the initiative’s performance measures do not provide sufficient information for decision-making because they do not evaluate the impact and effectiveness of the initiative,” the report said.

In addition, a GAO investigation determined that NNSA’s megaports initiative and a U.S. Department of Homeland Security Container Security Initiative program that similarly examines high-risk shipping containers for weapons of mass destruction before coming to the U.S. were not “sufficiently coordinating.”

The two programs are co-located at 29 foreign seaports. The deficiency in equipment became apparent when DHS told GAO investigators they were using personal radiation detectors intended for personal safety but inadequate for scanning containers to inspect them.

Yet, investigators discovered that NNSA’s megaports initiative had the necessary equipment that could have been used by DHS officials, showing a serious lack of coordination and cooperation.

The NNSA megaports initiative began in 2003 to detect and capture nuclear or other radiological materials being smuggled through foreign seaports.

The program is supposed to fund the installation of radiation detection equipment at select overseas seaports. It also trains foreign personnel in the use of the equipment to scan the shipping containers entering and leaving the foreign seaports before they head to the U.S.

Last July, GAO found similar deficiencies in DHS deployment of radiation detection equipment that can scan for nuclear or radiological materials in trucks and containerized cargo coming into the U.S. through seaports and border crossings.

At the time, GAO said that “challenges remain for the agency in developing a similar scanning capability for railcars entering this country from Canada and Mexico, as well as for international air cargo and international commercial aviation.”

Such deficiencies by two agencies with the job of preventing the smuggling of nuclear materials – or worse, nuclear weapons – will continue to leave the U.S. vulnerable.

Think Tank: “Extraordinary Crisis” Needed to Preserve “New World Order”

Author of ‘shock and awe’ doctrine says elite threatened by non-state actors like Edward Snowden

Writing for the Atlantic Council, a prominent think tank based in Washington DC, Harlan K. Ullman warns that an “extraordinary crisis” is needed to preserve the “new world order,” which is under threat of being derailed by non-state actors like Edward Snowden.

The Atlantic Council is considered to be a highly influential organization with close ties to major policy makers across the world. It’s headed up by Gen. Brent Scowcroft, former United States National Security Advisor under U.S. Presidents Gerald Ford and George H. W. Bush. Snowcroft has also advised President Barack Obama.

Harlan K. Ullman was the principal author of the “shock and awe” doctrine and is now Chairman of the Killowen Group which advises government leaders.

In an article entitled War on Terror Is not the Only Threat, Ullman asserts that, “tectonic changes are reshaping the international geostrategic system,” arguing that it’s not military superpowers like China but “non-state actors” like Edward Snowden, Bradley Manning and anonymous hackers who pose the biggest threat to the “365 year-old Westphalian system” because they are encouraging individuals to become self-empowered, eviscerating state control.

“Very few have taken note and fewer have acted on this realization,” notes Ullman, lamenting that “information revolution and instantaneous global communications” are thwarting the “new world order” announced by U.S. President George H.W. Bush more than two decades ago.

“Without an extraordinary crisis, little is likely to be done to reverse or limit the damage imposed by failed or failing governance,” writes Ullman, implying that only another 9/11-style cataclysm will enable the state to re-assert its dominance while “containing, reducing and eliminating the dangers posed by newly empowered non-state actors.”

Ullman concludes that the elimination of non-state actors and empowered individuals “must be done” in order to preserve the new world order. A summary of their material suggests that the Atlantic Council’s definition of a “new world order” is a global technocracy run by a fusion of big government and big business under which individuality is replaced by transhumanist singularity.

Ullman’s rhetoric sounds somewhat similar to that espoused by Trilateral Commission co-founder and regular Bilderberg attendee Zbigniew Brzezinski, who in 2010 told a Council on Foreign Relations meeting that a “global political awakening,” in combination with infighting amongst the elite, was threatening to derail the move towards a one world government.

Ullman’s implied call for an “extraordinary crisis” to reinvigorate support for state power and big government has eerie shades of the Project For a New American Century’s 1997 lament that “absent some catastrophic catalyzing event – like a new Pearl Harbor,” an expansion of U.S. militarism would have been impossible.

In 2012, Patrick Clawson, member of the influential pro-Israel Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP) think tank, also suggested that the United States should launch a staged provocation to start a war with Iran.

Ullman’s concern over failing state institutions having their influence eroded by empowered individuals, primarily via the Internet, is yet another sign that the elite is panicking over the “global political awakening” that has most recently expressed itself via the actions of people like Edward Snowden, Julian Assange, Bradley Manning and their growing legion of supporters.

I realize most of the people that work for these "think tanks" are ex-government employees, but it still amazes me how many of these groups exist. I've always wonder where they get their money from. Who pays these people, and for what do they pay? Seriously, we talk all the time about dealing with the wicked world, so we effectively have our own "think tank".

Advises government leaders eh? Seems to me that undermines the public. These private groups sit in closed door meetings and tell government what they want, while the public has ZERO idea what these people tell government officials in private "national security interests" meetings. Which to me proves that government does not listen to the public, but rather special interest private groups that hardly anybody knows who these "advisers" are.

And people still think their vote counts!  Cheesy

FEMA to Conduct Chemical Contamination Operation on Food Supply

2014: HDIAC

We have barely entered into 2014 and we are already witnessing the largest chemical attack the world has never known.  The chemical war is being conducted in food, land, water, and even in the very air we breathe.

On February 26 FEMA will be conducting a virtual exercise that involves a chemical incident scenario that contaminates the food supply. Weeks before the exercise the government in partnership with the Resource & Resources in Food Protection will hold a Webinar on assessing the potential adverse effects of contamination of the drinking water distribution system.

Not much is known about the chemical-food exercise outside the exercise design team and participants.  What we do know is that it part of a comprehensive 2014 exercise schedule that includes radiation, pandemic, wildfires, and environmental issues.

With each day, our risk increases for chemical contamination in the food supply.  After World War II drug manufacturers got a strong-hold into agriculture.  Foods that you know and love are being treated with a barrage of chemicals before they ever get to your dinner plate.  Not even food packaging or labeling is safe from chemicals seeping into and contaminating your food.

U.S. ready to 'extract' citizens from Sochi Olympics: Hagel
http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2014/01/25/22441142-us-ready-to-extract-citizens-from-sochi-olympics-hagel?lite=
1/25/14

The United States will be ready to rescue Americans from the upcoming Sochi Olympics, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said amid heightened security fears in the run-up to the Games.

"If we need to extract our citizens, we will have appropriate arrangements with the Russians to do this," Hagel told journalists on Friday.

Over 10,000 American athletes and spectators are expected to attend the Games, which start on Feb. 7.

Russia has the main responsibility for protecting the Olympics, but recent deadly suicide attacks have heightened worries about militant attacks.

On Thursday, the U.S. Olympic team and at least five other national delegations said they had received messages making terrorist threats ahead of the Games.

The threats arrived as Russian security forces were hunting for at least five suspected terrorists – some of them so-called “black widows” – who may be plotting attacks against the Olympic torch relay or the games themselves, according to notices posted in Sochi.

A four-minute video which had been posted by an ally of al Qaeda emerged Friday.  In it, a militant likened the upcoming Olympics to those held under Adolf Hitler in 1936, and warned again of terror at the upcoming Sochi Games.

Russia has not asked for help or technology from the United States to help defend thousands of athletes and spectators expected, Hagel added.

"As of right now, the Russians have not requested any specific assistance or technology. We want them to know that if they need our help, we want to help," Hagel told Pentagon reporters on Friday.

The United States has already announced that it will station two warships nearby in the Black Sea during the Games.

http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/28/us/super-bowl-fans-should-know/index.html
Super Bowl: Temperature up. Prices down. Security tight. Game on!
1/28/14

Excerpt:

Security by land, sea and air

Huge sporting events like the Olympics and Super Bowl always draw large security forces as did prior events at MetLife Stadium, site of Sunday's game. Lt. Col Ed Cetnar of the New Jersey State Police told CNN this is a different ballgame.

There will be more than 700 troopers in and around the stadium complex, he said. But they won't be the only people guarding the game.

"There's eyes all over the place, whether it's state, local, federal or county assets there," he told CNN's Alexandra Field.

That also includes 3,000 private security guards on site. And extra security for mass transit options because there will only be 12,000 parking spots at the game for 80,000 fans and 5,000 media members.

"There is a template within the NFL and there are certain things that we follow with the NFL. But we have to use our own template because every city is different," he told CNN. "Obviously it's different than other Super Bowls because of our proximity to New York City."

The proximity of the stadium to waterways and railways will mean extra Coast Guard boats on game day and more planes from federal agencies in the sky equipped with infrared and night-vision systems.

Homeland Security officials said federal agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, will deploy hundreds of employees to assist New Jersey and New York police secure what's been officially designated "an event of national significance."

And there is one noticeable difference for fans, a change instituted for this NFL season. In light of the bombings at the Boston Marathon, if fans want to bring a bag bigger than 4 ˝ by 6 ˝ inches, it must be clear plastic. (Even the garbage being taken out has to go in clear bags).

WHAT? Are they serious? SO I guess fans have been forced to use "public transportation", the staple of socialists. With all the special tents set up, I guess the parking lot is full of special interest/corporate private party tents.

New York/New Jersey is SO corrupt I wouldn't set foot in that place. Wouldn't give them the pleasure of taking my money. It wouldn't surprise me if they did it on purpose just to get people to use the public transportation system.

No sooner than I said that...

Quote
The Super Bowl's mandatory traffic regulations are ridiculous

Jay Busbee
By Jay Busbee 3 hours ago Shutdown Corner

Every year, the Super Bowl moves farther away from "football game" and closer toward "trip through airport security." This year's model features some of the most restrictive regulations on transportation in the game's history. To wit:

• You cannot take a cab to the game.

• You cannot take a limo to the game.

• You cannot, we presume, ride a horse to the game.

• You cannot walk to the game.

• No tailgating, unless you're inside your own car.

• You can risk driving your own car for said tailgate, at a cost of $150 per pass, but if you don't leave now, you're going to get caught in traffic.

Here's what you can do:

• Pack onto New Jersey Transit shuttle buses from Secaucus, N.J., which is every bit as inviting as it sounds.

• Shell out $51 per person for the NFL-approved shuttle system.

Yep, that's right. As part of what the NFL is calling the "first mass-transit Super Bowl," you get the distinct honor of being one of the first people to pay $51 (why $51? why not $50? or $48?) to leave from one of nine designated pickup locations throughout the greater New York-New Jersey area to get to the Meadowlands. Lucky you!

Why the no-taxis, no-walking, our-way-or-sit-and-wait-on-the-highway approach? As Sports Illustrated notes, the NFL initially cited "logistical concerns," which would make a lot of sense if, in fact, MetLife Stadium didn't have experience hosting football games 20 or so weeks a year. The NFL then fell back on the unassailable "security concerns," but as Sports Illustrated's Sean Conboy sees it, there's something more mundane at work here: a straight cash grab.

"The NFL thinks of you not as a human being whose loyalty and wallet contribute to its preposterous franchise valuations," he writes, "but rather as a number on an Excel spreadsheet, and the league is determined to wring as much guaranteed profit out of Super Bowl XLVIII as possible."

Sitting at home and watching the game on a big screen looks better all the time.

2Peter 3:1  This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2Pe 3:2  That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
2Pe 3:3  Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
2Pe 3:4  And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
2Pe 3:5  For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
2Pe 3:6  Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
2Pe 3:7  But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

And look how much SECURITY they are beefing up for this sporting event in Sochi!

Sochi promises tight security at Olympics
The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics begin Friday amid security concerns about attacks from regional terrorist groups.

SOCHI, Russia, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Sochi promises tight security at Olympics with a "Ring of Steel" security force. Organizers have promised "the safest games in history" with 100,000 police officers, military troops, and security agents forming what they call a "Ring of Steel" around the perimeter of Sochi.

People watching the games will be subject to X-ray scans, bag checks, vehicle searches and aerial surveillance. U.S. and British intelligence officials are still concerned there will be an attack due to the threat from the northern Caucasus terror group Imarat Kavkaz, which threatened to attack the Olympics. The group succeeded in a terrorist attack 400 miles north of Sochi in a twin bombing that killed 34 people.

In addition to physical surveillance with hundreds of cameras, security agents will be monitoring all cell phones, emails, and social media in Sochi during the games. One official said, "it will be the NSA on steroids."

A Stranger in the Sochi Night

During an episode of “Breaking Bad,” Walter White memorably declared, “I am the one who knocks.” During my first night in Sochi, I got a visit from the one who doesn’t.

The only sound I heard was a key going into the lock and, at around 4 a.m. Wednesday, the door to my hotel room opening. Half asleep, I looked up and saw the light shining in from the hall. But by the time I sat up to see who was there, the door had been shut again. The one who doesn’t knock scurried away without uttering a word.

Do housekeepers work graveyard shifts here? Was it a construction worker, assuming something wasn’t quite finished in the room? Who else would both have a key and be using it at 4 a.m.?

In Sochi, those are questions better left unasked. Or at the very least, they will remain unanswered. I tried calling the front desk, but the phone didn’t work. And really, given the much more serious hotel issues others have experienced, I wasn’t about to complain.

I dozed off again until around 5 a.m., when the sound of stray dogs barking began to echo outside, like a tree filled with birds singing just before sunrise, albeit less soothing. Stray dogs are part of the scene in Sochi, roaming the streets and occasionally chasing after pedestrians.

Giving up on sleep, I decided to walk down the hall and take the elevator five floors down to grab breakfast. Inside, a sign listed “elevator user rules” that included a ban on “explosive, inflammable and toxic substances in non-factory packaging.” Fortunately, all my toxic substances were properly packaged. At the end of the list, this message appeared in bold red letters: “Please REMEMBER: Elevator is the equipment of increased danger!”

Suddenly, the one who doesn’t knock didn’t seem so dangerous.

Sochi Is Running Out of Pillows
2/4/14

Four days before the Winter Games begin, Sochi staffers are looking for a few goose men

The Olympics officially kick off Friday. We imagine many a staffer and volunteer are scurrying around the Black Sea resort of Sochi, trying to prepare for the glamorous opening ceremony and making sure all security protocols are in place. But it turns out that Russia, despite spending a reported $51 billion on the most expensive Olympics ever, neglected a few key details.

It appears there aren’t enough pillows for the athletes in the Olympic Village
. This news comes via the Instagram posts of Luiza Baybakova, a member of the catering staff for the games.

Baybakova posted a picture of a notice to volunteers, which translates as follows:

“ATTENTION, DEAR COLLEAGUES!

Due to an extreme shortage of pillows for athletes who unexpectedly arrived to Olympic Village in the mountains, there will be a transfer of pillows from all apartments to the storehouse on 2 February 2014. Please be understanding. We have to help the athletes out of this bind.”

We monitored both Russian-language social networks and Instagram for posts related to the Olympic Village, and ran across this controversial gem.

Either the athletes arrived early, or event planners somehow didn’t know when they were arriving. Regardless, it seems like volunteers and staffers might now be asked to give up their own pillows to accommodate the athletes. It’s in line with what other citizen bloggers are posting ahead of the Olympics, like this guy, who claims residents near the stadiums are forbidden from using wood-burning fireplaces to avoid unsightly smoke coming out of chimneys. Even though it’s the Winter Games.

Sochi is clearly and massively underprepared. It’s sad and alarming, considering the allegations of corruption and abuse surrounding these games. But there’s at least one amusing takeaway: the hashtags posted by Baybakova (which admittedly might seem funnier in English): “Help with the pillows! #Sochi2014 #Olympics #OlympicCamp #OlympicVillage #ManyAthletes #PillowForEveryone #TakingPillows #CantSleepWithNoPillow.”

On a subsequent post featuring a pillow, she added, “#TheyreTakingOurPillows #OlympicPillow #WhereDoAthletesComeFrom #PlzDontTake.”

WOW!  Roll Eyes

That's the whole "Agenda 21" crowd trying to ban any fossil fuel fires, claiming it causes pollution and destroys forests. Yet those same clowns want to stuff whole populations into small cities, neatly packed tight into small apartments, never mind all the pollution that causes!

Homeland Security drill for World Series scenario at PNC Park causes North Shore traffic restrictions

Several law enforcement agencies are gathering at PNC Park for a homeland security training exercise that will keep some of the area near the Pittsburgh Pirates' ballpark off-limits to the public Tuesday.

The city's office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, the U.S. Army National Guard, the Ohio State Civil Support Team and PNC Park security will conduct the exercise until 7 p.m.

"In this particular case, they are oriented towards weapons of mass destruction," says Ray DeMichiei, the city's deputy director of emergency management. "Generally, it will involve suspicious packages being located by PNC Park personnel, and the scenario is a World Series event."

Citing the safety of those involved, specific details were not released.

It's not the first time that the ballpark has hosted a drill of this magnitude.

"We do this every now and again," DeMichiei said. "And it's just like anything else -- like a golf swing, you have to stay in practice in order to do it right, so that's what we're doing."

Mazeroski Way will be closed between General Robinson Boulevard and North Shore Drive, with no parking allowed. Only local traffic will be allowed to enter North Shore Drive at Tony Dorsett Drive.

The Pirates are on a nine-game road trip that begins Tuesday night at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

Former NSA Director: ‘A Lot More Terror Attacks Coming Our Way’
'...a lot of these groups are looking to attack the United States. I take that threat very seriously'

Just a year and a half after assuring American voters that his efforts had made our citizens safer from terror attacks than before he took office, his former NSA chief is telling us the exact opposite.

Former Director of the National Security Agency, Gen Keith Alexander, tells the New Yorker that terror attacks are on their way, it's just a matter of when.

“We’re at greater risk. Look at the way Al Qaeda networks. From Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, Al Qaeda in the Islamic Magreb, and now in Syria, the al-Nusra front. Look at the number of jihadists going into Syria and what they want to do. When put all that together, you can say those are distant countries, but a lot of these groups are looking to attack the United States. I take that threat very seriously.”

This statement flies in the face of President Obama's campaign assurances that Al Qaeda had been "decimated" and the the terror network was on the run.

Alexander went on to tell The New Yorker that he is concerned about the number of threats our nations still faces. "The number of attacks that are coming, the probability, it’s growing,” Alexander said. “What I saw at N.S.A. is that there is a lot more coming our way.”

FALSE FLAG ALERT: Craigslist Ad Asking for CRISIS ACTORS in Houston For JULY 4th

In a Craigslist ad posted about 17 days ago, our Federal Government is looking for crisis actors for July 4th through July 6th.

“We are looking for crisis actors for a government emergency drill between July 4-6th. Actors will be responsible for portraying different emergency scenarios in a simulated government terror drill. No experience is needed. Confidentiality agreements are required. Pay is $200. Please message for details.” ~Houston Craigslist

This isn’t the first time that they have advertised on Craigslist for “crisis actors” though. It seems to be a major deal, paying decent money if you can catch it before the post is removed from Craigslist. One such post even made the news on Infowars shortly before the LAX Shooting.

These ads are nothing new it seems. Amazingly enough, it always seems to proceed some type of disaster that involves real lives being lost and sometimes just actors, of course, to make it look real. Will this administration stoop to anything to try and enact Martial Law?

I’m sure this won’t be the last one they try to fly under the radar without the American public’s knowledge. Only time will tell how many more of these will come to light.

UPDATE: Craigslist has removed this post since publishing as this story has gotten national attention.

The MSM is known to craftily telegraph their punches too(along with Hollywood). There's been alot of reports in the MSM over this "Should Ginsberg retire or not?" going back and forth, back and forth lately...hhhmmm...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pelican_Brief_%28film%29

The Pelican Brief is a 1993 legal crime thriller based on the novel of the same name by John Grisham. Directed by Alan J. Pakula, the film stars Julia Roberts in the role of young law student Darby Shaw and Denzel Washington as Washington Herald reporter Gray Grantham. Music was composed by James Horner. This was the last film to feature Pakula as a producer and writer before his death.

Two Supreme Court justices are assassinated by the professional assassin "Sam" Khamel (Stanley Tucci).

Tulane University Law School student Darby Shaw (Julia Roberts) writes a legal brief detailing her theory on why they were killed and under whose orders, and shows it to her law professor, mentor and lover Thomas Callahan (Sam Shepard). He gives a copy to his friend Gavin Verheek (John Heard) at the FBI.

Does Obama Know Something We Don't About Supreme Court Retirements?
8/12/14

President Obama may not be buying Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's insistence that she won't be retiring from the Supreme Court anytime soon.

Speaking to donors at a fundraiser in Boston on Monday, the president seemed to suggest that he expects another Supreme Court justice to retire during his final two years in office, as he made clear how important it was that Democrats retain control of the Senate.

Not to mention the fact that we’re going to have Supreme Court appointments, and there are going to be a whole host of issues that many people here care about that are going to be determined by whether or not Democrats retain the Senate."

A White House spokesman told The Wire on Tuesday that Obama's comments "were meant to convey the important role the Senate would play in the event of a Supreme Court vacancy. They were not in reference to a specific vacancy."

That is expected, as presidents rarely weigh in on potential judicial retirements before they happen, lest they be accused of trying to push an elderly judge with a lifetime appointment off the bench.

But speculation about the 81-year-old Ginsburg has been raging in political circles since shortly after Obama's re-election. Nominated to the high court by President Clinton in 1993, Ginsburg is a two-time cancer survivor and had surgery to remove a tumor in her pancreas in 2009. With conservatives likely one vote away from being able to overturn Roe v. Wade, some liberal writers have publicly called on Ginsburg to retire soon to ensure that Obama – and not a potential Republican successor – can appoint her replacement.

Ginsburg is having none of it.

She has gone on a rare publicity tour since the Supreme Court ended its session in June, and she bluntly told Katie Couric in a Yahoo News interview last month that she had no plans to retire.

"All I can say is that I am still here and likely to remain for a while," she said.

A Republican takeover of the Senate after November could severely restrict the pool of candidates that Obama could get confirmed. But perhaps instead of Ginsburg retiring, he is actually hoping that his 78-year-old conservative bete noir, Antonin Scalia, decides to take up golf.

Missing Libyan Jetliners Raise Fears of Suicide Airliner Attacks on 9/11
Egypt set for military intervention as Libya spirals toward failed state

Islamist militias in Libya took control of nearly a dozen commercial jetliners last month, and western intelligence agencies recently issued a warning that the jets could be used in terrorist attacks across North Africa.

Intelligence reports of the stolen jetliners were distributed within the U.S. government over the past two weeks and included a warning that one or more of the aircraft could be used in an attack later this month on the date marking the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks against New York and Washington, said U.S. officials familiar with the reports.

“There are a number of commercial airliners in Libya that are missing,” said one official. “We found out on September 11 what can happen with hijacked planes.”

The official said the aircraft are a serious counterterrorism concern because reports of terrorist control over the Libyan airliners come three weeks before the 13th anniversary of 9/11 attacks and the second anniversary of the Libyan terrorist attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi.

Four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, were killed in the Benghazi attack, which the Obama administration initially said was the result of a spontaneous demonstration against an anti-Muslim video.

A senior State Department counterterrorism official declined to comment on reports of the stolen jetliners.

Meanwhile, officials said Egyptian military forces appear to be preparing to intervene in Libya to prevent the country from becoming a failed state run by terrorists, many with ties to al Qaeda.

Libya remains an oil-rich state and if the country is taken over completely by Islamist extremists, U.S. counterterrorism officials believe it will become another terrorist safe haven in the region.

The officials said U.S. intelligence agencies have not confirmed the aircraft theft following the takeover of Tripoli International Airport in late August, and are attempting to locate all aircraft owned by two Libyan state-owned airline companies, as security in the country continued to deteriorate amid fighting between Islamists and anti-Islamist militias.

Video surfaced on Sunday showing armed fighters from the Islamist militia group Libyan Dawn partying inside a captured U.S. diplomatic compound in Tripoli. The footage showed one fighter diving into a pool from a second-story balcony at the facility.

Tripoli airport and at least seven aircraft were reported damaged during fighting that began in July. Photos of the airport in the aftermath showed a number of damaged aircraft. The airport has been closed since mid-July.

The state-owned Libyan Airlines fleet until this summer included 14 passenger and cargo jetliners, including seven Airbus 320s, one Airbus 330, two French ATR-42 turboprop aircraft, and four Bombardier CJR-900s. Libyan state-owned Afriqiyah Airways fleet is made up of 13 aircraft, including three Airbus 319s, seven Airbus 320s, two Airbus 330s, and one Airbus 340.

The aircraft were reportedly taken in late August following the takeover of Tripoli International Airport, located about 20 miles south of the capital, by Libyan Dawn.

Al Jazeera television reported in late August that western intelligence reports had warned of terror threats to the region from 11 stolen commercial jets.

In response, Tunisia stopped flights from other Libyan airports at Tripoli, Sirte, and Misrata over concerns that jets from those airports could be on suicide missions.

Egypt’s government also halted flights to and from Libya.

Military forces in North Africa, including those from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Egypt have been placed on heightened alert as a result of intelligence warning of the stolen aircraft.

Egyptian military jets reportedly have conducted strikes inside Libya against Libyan Dawn positions recently, and U.S. officials said there are signs a larger Egyptian military incursion is being planned.

Egyptian President Abdel-Fatah al-Sisi was quoted as denying Egyptian air strikes into Libya have taken place but suggested that military action is being considered.

Secretary of State John Kerry last week told his Egyptian counterpart that the United States would speed up the delivery of Apache attack helicopters, although it is not clear the Apaches would be used in any Libyan operations.

Egypt’s military-backed government appears to be seeking a more significant role in regional security after the Obama administration helped engineer the ouster of Libyan strongman Moammar Qaddafi in 2011. Since then, the Obama  administration, through its announced policy of “leading from behind,” has stood by while Libya gradually has spiraled into chaos.

The Libyan government announced Sunday that it no longer controlled the capital of Tripoli.

“We announce that the majority of the ministries, institutions, and associations in the capital Tripoli are no longer under its control,” a government statement said.

Libya’s parliament in August declared both Ansar al Sharia and Libyan Dawn as terrorist organizations working to overthrow the government.

Ansar al Sharia, which is based in Benghazi, recently publicized on social media that it has obtained large numbers of more sophisticated weapons, including SA-6 surface-to-air missiles, anti-aircraft guns, rocket-propelled grenades, shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles, assault rifles, and armored vehicles. The group is closely aligned with al Qaeda-linked rebels in Syria.

Abderrahmane Mekkaoui, a Moroccan military expert, told Al Jazeera television, which first reported the airline theft Aug. 21, the alert regarding the stolen jetliners was preventive and covers the region from Cairo to Lagos Nigeria.

Mekkaoui said the jets being held by the Libyan group called Masked Men Brigade that was designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the State Department in December.

The Masked Men Brigade is linked to al Qaeda and Ansar al Sharia—the group behind the Benghazi terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2012.

Until the Libya Dawn takeover of the airport, announced Aug. 24, two other militia groups, known as Al Qaqa and Al Sawa controlled the airport and all aircraft belonging to Libyan Airlines and Afriqiyah Airways.

Mekkaoui said “credible intelligence” reports given to states in the region indicated the Masked Men Brigade “is plotting to use the planes in attacks on a Maghreb state” on the 9/11 anniversary.

Counterterrorism expert Sebastian Gorka said that if the theft is confirmed, the stolen aircraft could be used in at least two ways.

“The first would be how commercial airliners were used on Sept. 11, 2001, literally turning an innocent mode of mass transit into a super-high precision guided missile of immense potency,” said Gorka, who holds the Maj. Gen. Charles Horner chair at Marine Corps University in Quantico, Va.

“The second tactic could be to use the airframe with its civilian markings as a tool of deception to insert a full payload of armed terrorists into a locale that otherwise is always open to commercial carriers,” he said.

Michael Rubin, a counterterrorism specialist with the American Enterprise Institute, said commercial jetliners in the hands of terrorists could be formidable weapons.

“Who needs ballistic missiles when you have passenger planes? Even empty, but loaded up with fuel they can be as devastating,” Rubin said.

“Each plane could, if deployed by terrorists to maximum devastating effect, represent 1,000 civilian casualties.”

Among the potential targets are urban areas and economic targets, like Saudi Arabia’s oil fields.

“Anyone who has ever flown over Saudi Arabia at night can see refineries like Yanbu lit up like Christmas trees against the blackness of the desert,” Rubin said. “One Saudi security officer once told me that they would only have about 90 seconds to shoot down a hijacked plane from the time it left international airspace to impact in one of the region’s most important refineries.”

Rubin said in 2003 a Boeing 727 went missing in Africa fueling concerns about a terror attack on the U.S. consulate in Karachi.

“What is striking is that more than a decade later, the United States hasn’t taken the need to safeguard what are effectively giant guided missiles seriously,” he said.

A former Libyan general, Khalifa Haftar, has been leading anti-Islamist forces. His group has access to Libyan air force MiG jets that have conducted strikes on Libyan Dawn positions in recent days. Haftar also has conducted military raids in Benghazi.

The United Nations Security Council on Aug. 27 announced plans for new sanctions on Libyan militias and terrorists. In a resolution the U.N. warned of the “growing presence of al Qaeda-linked terrorist groups and individuals operating in Libya.”

UK: Passports could be seized to fight terrorism
9/2/14

LONDON (AP) — Prime Minister David Cameron on Monday proposed new laws that would give police the power to seize the passports of Britons suspected of having traveled abroad to fight with terrorist groups.

Speaking to Parliament, Cameron said his government is also working on plans to block such suspected British jihadi fighters from re-entering the U.K. The power to monitor such suspects who are already in Britain would also be strengthened.

The plans to widen Britain's anti-terror laws, which are likely to be approved by parliament, are aimed at preventing attacks by Islamist militants returning from terror training in trouble spots in the Middle East.

Like other Western countries such as the U.S., France and Germany, Britain is worried that citizens who travel abroad to join terror groups could threaten their home country when they return.

Intelligence and security services suspect that around 500 Britons have gone to fight in Syria and potentially Iraq. Cameron has described the extremism posed by the Islamic State group as the biggest security threat of modern times — surpassing that of al-Qaida — and said it poses a direct threat to Europe.

Britain's Home Secretary already has the authority to withhold passports in some cases, but Cameron said more is needed to ensure police at border crossings could act in time when they spot a suspect.

"We will introduce specific and targeted legislation to fill this gap by providing the police with a temporary power to seize a passport at the border, during which time they will be able to investigate the individual concerned," he said.

Authorities on Friday raised Britain's terror threat alert from "substantial" to "severe," the second-highest level, in response to the crises in Iraq and Syria and concerns that terrorist groups could target Europe. The alert means that an attack on Britain is "highly likely" — though the government did not provide information to suggest an attack was imminent.

Senator Inhofe warns of potential terrorist attacks on U.S. soil
Posted: Aug 20, 2014 4:52 PM PST

OKLAHOMA CITY -

It is a serious warning coming from Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe as he warns of the potential of another attack on American soil. The senator sat down with Fox 25 to talk about a variety of topics, but as ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, the top issue was national security.

“We're in the most dangerous position we've ever been in as a nation,” Senator Inhofe told Fox 25's Phil Cross.

“ISIS, they are really bad terrorists, they're so bad even Al Qaida is afraid of them,” Inhofe said reflecting on the recent beheading of American journalist James Foley. Beyond the beheading, Inhofe said the current terror organizations are not going to stay contained to the Middle East. “They're crazy out there and they're rapidly developing a method of blowing up a major U.S. city and people just can't believe that's happening.”

Inhofe blames policy decisions from the Obama administration and cuts in defense spending for putting the country in what he calls a dangerous situation.

“He's [President Obama] going to have to come up with something that we're going to do because they're holding another hostage in place and the problem is, the President says all these things and he never does them,” Inhofe said.

Inhofe said he hopes after the mid-term elections there will be more Republicans in the Senate and more of a willingness for both parties to work on restoring cuts to defense spending.

Military Experts: With ISIS in El Paso, Ft. Bliss in Danger of Terrorist Attack

The recent increase in security at a key Army base near a Mexican border city where Islamic terrorists are confirmed to be operating and planning an attack on the United States indicates that the facility is a target, according to senior military experts contacted by Judicial Watch.

Last week JW reported that the militant group Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) is working in the Mexican border city of Ciudad Juarez and planning to attack the United States with car bombs or other vehicle borne improvised explosive devices (VBIED). High-level federal law enforcement, intelligence and other sources confirmed to JW that a warning bulletin for an imminent terrorist attack on the border has been issued. Agents across a number of Homeland Security, Justice and Defense agencies have all been placed on alert and instructed to aggressively work all possible leads and sources concerning this imminent terrorist threat.

Juarez is a famously crime-infested narcotics hotbed situated across from El Paso, Texas. Ft. Bliss is the Army’s second-largest installation, spanning more than 1 million acres with an active duty force of 34,411 and headquartered in El Paso. Two days after JW broke the story on ISIS operating in Juarez, Ft. Bliss announced it was increasing security measures. A statement that went out to the media was rather vague, attributing the move to several recent security assessments and the constant concern for the safety of military members, families, employees and civilians.

But senior military officials contacted by JW this week reveal that military installations in the U.S. only make changes to security measures when there are clear and present threats. “It’s a significant issue when this is done,” says retired Army Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin, former commander of the Army’s elite Delta Force who also served four years as Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence. “That means they’re getting a threat stream. Ft. Bliss had to have a clear and present threat.”

The inaccuracies to the public appear to be part of a broader effort by the Obama administration to downplay the bloodshed that has long plagued the southern border and now the imminent threat of Islamic jihadists planning a strike as the 13th anniversary of the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil approaches. Remember that Obama’s first Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napolitano, famously proclaimed that the border is as secure as it’s ever been even as organized syndicates took over portions of the region, smuggling drugs, humans, weapons and money into the U.S.

Back in 2010 a veteran federal agent disclosed that the government was covering up the growing threat by Middle Eastern terrorists entering the country through Mexico. The U.S. Border Patrol classifies them as OTM (Other Than Mexican) and many come from terrorist nations like Yemen, Iran, Sudan, Somalia and Afghanistan. The feds call them SIAs (Special Interest Aliens) and the government doesn’t want Americans to know about them or that ISIS is operating adjacent to a major American city. “ISIS is working with the drug cartels,” confirms retired U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Paul E. Vallely, who’s regularly briefed by high-level contacts in the region. Besides Ft. Bliss, Maj. Gen. Vallely believes another Texas Army base, Ft. Hood, is also a target for Islamic terrorists.

As we all know, Ft. Hood was already attacked by a radical Army psychiatrist (Nidal Malik Hasan) who murdered 13 colleagues and wounded dozens of others as he chanted “Allahu Akbar!” (God is great in Arabic). Hasan had ties to a radical mosque leader (Anwar al Awlaki) who promotes jihad against the U.S., attempted to contact Al Qaeda associates prior to the attack and defended Islamic suicide bombers in comments he posted on the internet.

Hundreds of miles across the Lone Star State, geography makes Ft. Bliss an exceptionally big target at the moment, JW’s military experts say. For starters it’s a sensitive compound that sits near a notoriously porous border adjacent to a Mexican city long run by heavily armed drug cartels. As the anniversary of 9/11 approaches and ISIS establishes itself in Juarez, there’s no question the El Paso Army base is vulnerable, military experts told JW this week.

“Given how easy it is to cross the border terrorist can easily cross it,” Lt. Gen. Boykin said. “We’ve known for some time that terrorist elements have entered the U.S. through Mexico. This is nothing new.” Actually, Islamic terrorists are likely planning multiple attacks in the border region, including perhaps malls and power grids, according to Maj. Gen. Vallely, who assures that the cells are quite sophisticated. “They are well organized and well-funded,” he said.

London's Luton airport reopens after alert
9/8/14

LONDON (AP) — Hundreds of passengers were evacuated and flights were suspended for hours Monday from Luton Airport near London after a suspicious package was found in a security-screening area.

Passengers were stranded outside the terminal as emergency services examined the suspicious item. The approach road to the airport was closed, triggering long delays for motorists.

An army bomb-disposal squad blew up the item in a controlled explosion and police said it was not dangerous. The airport reopened around 6 p.m.

Budget airline EasyJet said six flights landing at Luton had been diverted to other airports and 12 flights had been canceled as a result of the security scare.

Luton, northwest of London, caters mostly to short-haul flights by budget airlines.

Homeland Security botched pandemic preparedness : U.S. report

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Department of Homeland Security failed to assess the supplies it needed to deal with a potential pandemic and now has expired stockpiles including medications, 200,000 respirators and 4,184 bottles of hand sanitizers, an inspector general report showed.

The department bought 16 million surgical masks and 350,000 white coverall suits without establishing the need for them, according to its inspector general's report, which included photographs of stacks of unopened boxes piled high in a storeroom.

Eighty-one percent of DHS' supply of 296,000 doses of antiviral medication, called medical countermeasures, will expire next year, according to the report completed in late August and released on Monday.

DHS also did not keep track of its supplies or where they were kept.

"As a result, the department has no assurance it has sufficient personal protective equipment and antiviral medical countermeasures for a pandemic response," it concluded.

The report comes as the United States prepares to help African countries devastated by the rapid spread of the Ebola virus and work to keep it from spreading to its shores.

The inspector general said DHS spent $47 million Congress appropriated in 2006 for a potential pandemic on the preparedness equipment, medication, research and exercises.

The Transportation Security Administration's stock of pandemic preparedness equipment includes 200,000 respirators that are past the five-year manufacturer’s guaranteed usability, the report said.

The inspector general said 84 percent of the department's 4,982 bottles of hand sanitizers were expired, some by up to four years.

The inspector general made 11 recommendations.

"While DHS concurs with the OIG's recommendations, we had already previously identified many of the issues prior to the review, and have taken comprehensive actions to address them," including finalizing the recall of the expired medicines, DHS spokesman S.Y. Lee said in a statement.

Homeland Security, with more than 240,000 employees, is charged with protecting the United States from a range of threats from weather disasters to terrorism, including threats to water supplies, power plants and other infrastructure.

"The mounting risk of a worldwide influenza pandemic poses numerous potentially devastating consequences for critical infrastructure in the United States," the report said.

Obama Fails to Warn Americans of Possibility of 9-11 Anniversary Attack This Week

As the 13th anniversary of 9-11 approaches, the Obama administration and its friends in the mainstream media have been eerily quiet about the 11 commercial airliners reported stolen by Islamic terrorists from a Libyan airport a little over a week ago. It should have been front page news on every newspaper across the country, with preparations made to keep people out of the downtowns of the largest cities on September 11 in case the terrorists try another attack with suicide planes. Instead, this administration is more interested in saving face than protecting innocent Americans, downplaying the threat.

Incredulously, despite photos that have been posted online by terrorists posing next to the stolen planes, published by reputable news sources such as the British newspaper Mail Online, the Obama administration is still claiming it has no information confirming the hijacking of the planes. Obama’s State Department told The Blaze on Friday, “The national threat level has not been raised.” Some of these planes are long-range jumbo jets capable of reaching U.S. cities. None of them have been located since their disappearance.

Websites like Snopes, which investigates rumors, have expressed skepticism regarding potential suicide attacks, since a couple of the planes may have been transferred somewhere else for safety reasons, or were damaged in previous attacks. Even if true, the loss of a couple of planes does not downplay the seriousness of the rest of the planes in the hands of terrorists who view the U.S. as the Great Satan, who would love to target us again on the anniversary of 9-11.

This September 11 also marks the second anniversary of the fatal attack on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi, more reason for the terrorists to strike. They have repeatedly shown a pattern of attacking the West on meaningful dates like 9-11, and virtually every news source is reporting credible evidence from intelligence agencies that Islamic terrorists intend to use the planes on 9-11 in terrorist attacks, at a minimum to attack northern Africa and Saudi Arabia.

Dallas Blog warns the planes could be used to target U.S. landmarks, and Catholic Online admits suicidal airplane attacks could take place within the U.S. One unnamed U.S. official acknowledges, “We found out on September 11 what can happen with hijacked planes.” The 11 jets have effectively formed a “de facto suicide air force.”

Muammar Gaddafi, the former dictator of Libya, was toppled in 2011 by the U.S. and its allies. Islamic radicals took over the capital of Tripoli on August 31, as well as an official U.S. residential compound in July. An unnamed State Department official said the official U.S. embassy is still in U.S. hands - which leaves it vulnerable to attack on 9-11.

At a minimum, intelligence reports that U.S. embassies in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Egypt - the Maghreb region of Western Africa - could be targeted. Daniel Greenfield, writing for Front Page Mag, also observes, “Libya remains an oil-rich state and if the country is taken over completely by Islamist extremists, U.S. counterterrorism officials believe it will become another terrorist safe haven in the region.”

Moroccan military expert Abderrahmane Mekkaoui told Al Jazeera television the jets are being held by the Libyan Masked Men Brigade, which the U.S. State Department has designated a foreign terrorist organization. The organization is linked to al Qaeda and the violent Ansar al Sharia. The latter is responsible for the Benghazi embassy bombing two years ago.

Obama has steadily downsized our military defense. Additionally, Michael Rubin, a counterterrorism specialist with the American Enterprise Institute, observed, “What is striking is that more than a decade later, the United States hasn’t taken the need to safeguard what are effectively giant guided missiles seriously.” He estimates that each of the hijacked planes could take out up to 1,000 civilians.

The only peep from the Obama administration about it, other than a denial of knowing anything, is a statement from Secretary of State John Kerry who said he will be sending Apache attack helicopters to Egypt.

Theavionist.com, a website with expertise in airplanes, is skeptical about airplane suicide attacks, but admits: “[W]e can’t completely rule out that a terrorist attack with civil planes can be carried out, as there are many unlikely (still not impossible) things that can be done to escape detection by radars, like flying in the shadow of another plane, but let’s stick to reality: a hijacked plane is, still today, a more serious threat even for the most prepared and well equipped air defense.”

The 113th Wing of the Air National Guard - U.S. pilots ready to respond to aerial threats - has been on 24/7-alert status since 9-11. But with Obama’s shrinking of defense, how prepared are they? No one can forget Carter’s downsizing and neglect of the military, which led to the embarrassing breakdown of helicopters in the failed attempt to rescue U.S. hostages in Iran in 1979.

Where is Obama’s reassurance that the 113th Wing is ready to protect us from another 9-11 attack? He’s keeping quiet about it to save face, not wanting to acknowledge that terrorism has expanded so much under his indecisive leadership that it is now at our back door. This is very disturbing, considering more Americans may die needlessly if they are not made fully aware of how realistic this threat is. Obama is counting on the terrorists not attacking us; however, Americans working in large cities might consider staying away from downtown on 9-11.

Australia raises terror alert to 'high' on Mideast fears
9/12/14

Australia on Friday raised its terror threat level to "high" for the first time in a decade on growing concern about Australian jihadists returning from fighting in Iraq and Syria.

The heightened alert after years on "medium" officially means a "terrorist attack is likely" and comes after repeated government warnings that attacks could happen.

"There are people with the intent and the capability to mount attacks here in Australia," Prime Minister Tony Abbott told a press conference.

The lifting of the threat level was "not based on knowledge of a specific attack plan but rather a body of evidence that points to the increased likelihood of a terrorist attack in Australia", Abbott added in a joint statement with Attorney-General George Brandis.

"Security and intelligence agencies are concerned about the increasing number of Australians working with, connected to, or inspired by terrorist groups such as ISIL (Islamic State), Jabhat Al-Nusrah, and Al-Qaeda," he said.

"The threat they pose has been increasing for more than a year."

The "high" alert is just below "extreme" -- the top level -- which would indicate a "terrorist attack is imminent or has occurred".

It followed a similar decision by Britain in August, which raised its terror threat risk level to "severe" meaning an attack is thought "highly likely".

Abbott said his country's alert was now "broadly comparable to the threat level in the United Kingdom".

Monash University's Global Terrorism Research Centre director Greg Barton said the alert was last raised after the September 11, 2001 attacks and following the 2002 Bali bombings.

"We've never had the alert bumped up when nothing's happened -- when there's no incident," Barton said, adding that the current move was "largely driven by developments with Islamic State".

- 'Significant threat to our community' -

The government believes up to 60 Australians are fighting alongside jihadists for Islamic State, while another 100 were actively working to support the movement at home.

Abbott said based on previous experience with Australians who went to Afghanistan and Pakistan to join the Taliban, they had retained the "inclination to engage in terrorist activity" when they returned home.

"We do know that people coming back from the Middle East are militarised and brutalised, accustomed to kill without compunction, do pose a significant threat to our community should they not be under the closest possible supervision," he said.

Barton said the higher alert would give authorities more resources in patrolling public locations and in sifting through intelligence about potential attacks.

"Given that our big concern at the moment is the targeting of soft targets, particularly something like a train station in the city... our best line of defence... is intelligence," he said.

Abbott stressed the new threat level was not linked to his government's decision to support US military action in Iraq and Syria, adding: "We have experienced significant levels of threats for a long time now.

"We would be targets regardless of anything that we did."

The Australian Strategic Policy Institute's executive director Peter Jennings agreed, saying that while Australia's alliance with the US might see some "extra risk", it was "only a result of a prolonged process of radicalisation involving significant numbers of Australians over the last few years".

Brandis stressed that the decision was not targeted at Muslims.

"This is not about any particular community, but it is a sad fact that the wicked people who recruit and exhort to violence Australian citizens are preying on the Muslim community so as to encourage their young men to fight... in the Middle East," he said.

"The steps that we have taken, the legislation we are preparing in consultation with that community in particular, is designed to protect them... and the interests of their communities."

The decision came two days after police raided an Islamic centre in Brisbane and charged two men for alleged involvement in recruiting and sending jihadist fighters to Syria.

Abbott said Australians "should continue to go about their lives" despite the increased alert, although security would be stepped up.

"What people will probably notice is more security at airports, more security at ports, more security at military bases, more security at government buildings and more security at public events," he said.

Canberra recently announced a Aus$630 million counter-terrorism package to boost support for security agencies.
