Exo 20:4  Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
Exo 20:5  Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
Exo 20:6  And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Giant Jesus statue completed in Polish town

SWIEBODZIN, Poland (AP) -- Workers have completed a giant statue of Jesus Christ in a small Polish town that its creators say ranks as the biggest in the world.

Hundreds of residents gathered to watch a towering crane lifting the crowned head onto the top of the statue in the town of Swiebodzin on Saturday.

The statue is the creation of a retired local priest, Rev. Sylwester Zawadzki. Many local residents and business people in Swiebodzin (shvee-eh-BOHD'-jeen) say they hope it will put their town of 22,000 on the map for Roman Catholic pilgrims and bring in money to their community.

The statue's completion had been delayed by strong winds.

Indonesia unveils giant Jesus statue

Muslim-majority Indonesia has unveiled one of Asia's tallest Jesus Christ statues in the mainly Christian town of Manado on North Sulawesi island, the company behind it said today.

Indonesian real estate developer Ciputra built the 30-metre-high

statue in its CitraLand residential estate, hoping it will lure tourists and become a religious icon, the company's marketing manager Sonya Lasut said.

"It looks like the Jesus is flying to bless people," she added.

The white monument - which shows a robed Christ with his arms and palms outstretched above his head - took nearly three years to complete and cost five billion rupiah (about $A611,000). It also consisted of 25 tonnes of metal fibre and 35 tonnes of steel, Lasut added.

She said the Indonesian Museum of Records had certified the statue as Asia's tallest Jesus - overtaking the 27-metre tall Cristo Rei in East Timor's capital Dili - during a ceremony on December 2.

However, Vietnam's state-run tourism agency SaigonTourist says on its website that the southern coastal resort city of Vung Tau is home to a 32-metre-tall Jesus Christ statue. A museum official said he did not have a record of the Vietnamese statue.

Heaven-bound: Giant Jesus Statue

NEWSFLASH!! During a storm on June 14, 2010, the giant "King of Kings" styrofoam and fiberglass Jesus statue was struck by lightning and burst into flames. The statue was reported to have been completely destroyed.

Before that meteorological portent, this was our visit story:

Jesus has risen near the interstate north of Cincinnati. A 62-ft. high sculpture of Christ appears to explode from the dirt behind the amphitheater at Monroe's Solid Rock Church. From the waist down, he's underground....

Giant statue of Jesus, known as Christ the Redeemer ('Cristo Redentor')

It is famous for its spectacular natural setting, its Carnival celebrations, samba and other music, hotel-lined tourist beaches, such as Copacabana and Ipanema, paved with decorated black and cream swirl pattern mosaics, and also for its huge social disparities, shanty towns, violence and drug traffic. Some of the most famous local landmarks in addition to the beaches include the giant statue of Jesus, known as Christ the Redeemer ('Cristo Redentor') atop Corcovado mountain, which has recently been named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World; Sugarloaf mountain (Pão de Açúcar) with its cable car; the Sambódromo, a giant permanent parade stand used during Carnival; and Maracanã stadium, one of the world's largest football stadiums. Rio also boasts the world's largest forest inside an urban area, called Floresta da Tijuca, or 'Tijuca Forest'.

Isn't it funny how the RCC catechism completely removes the 2nd commandment about "graven images?"  They don't like that one so they decided to take it out.  lol.  Instead, they divided the tenth commandment to make their 9th and 10th commandments.

Indeed the Levitical law says no graven images, and clearly these statues and the various scultures in the Cahtolic church are graven images. No way around it. But we aren't under the law, but grace. So then what? Being under grace we have charity towards one another, and that charity is seen in the following...

4   As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol [is] nothing in the world, and that [there is] none other God but one.
5   For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
6   But to us [there is but] one God, the Father, of whom [are] all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom [are] all things, and we by him.
7   Howbeit [there is] not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat [it] as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
8   But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
9   But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
10   For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
11   And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
12   But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
13   Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
1 Corinthians 8:4 (KJB)

Erecting such things are born of pagan idol worship practices, and they are neither edifying nor expedient. It does back up scripture that man looks on the outward appearence when God is a spirit, and we compare spiritual with spiritual, so what are they doing messing with carnal idols?

"Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men." Mark 7:7 (KJB)

21   Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.
22   Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?
23 ¶ All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
24   Let no man seek his own, but every man another's [wealth].
1 Corinthians 10:21-24 (KJB)

Giant statue of Jesus Christ unveiled in Peru

President Alan Garcia formally opened the monument, known as Cristo del Pacifico or Christ of the Pacific, on a hill in the capital Lima.

He personally helped fund the cost of the statue to the tune of around 100,000 Peruvian soles (£22,000) and has said it will "bless and protect Lima".

But he has faced strong criticism from several quarters, with many seeing it as a vanity project he chose to pursue before leaving office at the end of July.

Susana Villaran, the Mayor of Lima, condemned the lack of consultation over the statue and labelled it "a plastic copy of the Christ of Corcovado" in Rio de Janeiro.

Architects have also questioned whether it may violate building codes and historians objected to the fact that it has been erected at the location of a 19th century battle against Chile.

'Touchdown Jesus' Statue in Ohio Struck by Lightning to Be Rebuilt in July
Solid Rock Church to Rename Damaged Statue 'Light of the World (Lex Mundi)'

Almost two years after a massive 62-foot replica of Jesus Christ was struck down by lightning in a rampant blaze, the Solid Rock Church statue in Southwest Ohio will finally be rebuilt by July.

The sculpture, which was known as the "Touchdown Jesus" statue because of the way Christ was depicted with his arms raised in the air, will now be called "Lux Mundi," which is Latin for "Light of the World." Tom Tsuchiya, the sculptor in charge of restoring the large statue, confirmed that crews will begin erecting the statue on July 16, and by June 20 the replica will be ready to be unveiled to the public.

The new statue will be a little bit shorter than its predecessor, standing at 51 feet tall, Cincinnati.com reported.

The steel foundations for the statue were first laid out in Sept. 2011, and it is costing between $250,000 and $750,000 to rebuild it. The original statue, built in 2004, also cost $250,000.

A short video by the Middletown Journal shows images of the 2010 blaze that destroyed the original "Touchdown Jesus" statue, photos of the small clay model on which the new "Lux Mundi" statue will be based, as well as the framework of the new giant statue being raised up by construction crews.

Some have questioned the great costs associated with rebuilding the statue, with some critics alleging that it is a "graven image," and that the money should instead be used for helping people. The Solid Rock Church, however, has disagreed and said that the sculpture is made to be seen as a symbol.

Solid Rock Church, which has two campuses in Ohio, is not associated with any denomination, although its doctrine is similar to the Assemblies of God, according to its website. The church, led by Pastor Darlene Bishop, operates a Brazilian orphanage in South America, has a prison ministry, and a home for women recovering from various life crises.

New Jesus statue begins construction near Monroe

Construction crews Wednesday erected the first 20 feet of the new statue, which will be 51 feet tall, by building the legs of the structure. Ron Carter, church administrator, said the Lux Mundi statue, which means light of the world in Latin, were will have more sections attached to represent Jesus Christ with outstretched arms.

“It’s a reminder for those who go up and down I-75 that Christ is the hope of the world and that he is the light of the world,” Carter said. “That’s one of the missions of the church — to present Christ to the world and this is one way we do that.”

The statue replaces the “King of Kings” or “Touchdown Jesus” statue that was destroyed by fire following a lightning strike on June 15, 2010. The original statue cost about $250,000 to construct, according to news reports.

The statue can be seen from Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, and Israel.

"The height of the bronze statue is 39 m together with the plinth, which is taller than the statue of the Christ in Rio de Janeiro (38 m). One can see the sculpture from Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, and Israel. (Public Radio of Armenia)

A new statue of Jesus Christ was erected on top of a Syrian mountain this week. The statue is taller than the Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Interfax reported:

A sculpture ensemble depicting Jesus Christ called ‘I have come to save the world’ has been erected on top of a 2,000-meter high mountain in Syria.

The statue has been placed on a historic pilgrim route from Constantinople to Jerusalem, at the Cherubim Monastery in the community of Saidnaya at an altitude of 2,100 meters above sea level, the Moscow Spiritual Academy, which supported this peacekeeping project, said in a statement.

“The ensemble with the blessing Christ in its center, seen from Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine and Israel, is designed to bring peace, mutual understanding, and hope for common salvation to a region engulfed in the flames of war,” it said.

The warring parties suspended hostilities and were watching the statue’s installation, which took three days, it said.

The monument was installed on October 14, when some Christian churches celebrate the feast of the Intercession of the Theotokos, and on the eve of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha."

100-Foot Jesus Statue to Be Built in Nazareth?

A Christian Arab is working on his plan to build a statue of Jesus in Nazareth, the childhood home of Jesus which is now dominated by Arab Muslim citizens of Israel. It will be, he says, larger than the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

"Slowly, but surely, the Christian identity in Nazareth is beginning to disappear," said Bishara Shlayan, a Christian merchant seaman from Nazareth who has come up with the plan, according to Fox News.

Shlayan told The Jerusalem Post he is raising funds for the project from both Israeli Arab Christians and Jews.

The statue would sit atop Mount Precipice, from where a mob tried to throw off Jesus only for Him to walk through them without any harm, as recorded in Luke 4:29-30. The site is owned by the Jewish National Fund, a quasi-governmental, non-profit organization.

Last month, Israel's Tourism Minister Uzi Landau told Shlayan if he starts the project "we will bless it." Official confirmation, however, is yet to come.

Churches are expected to join the effort to build the statue, said Shlayan, who has formed an organization called Diglei Habrit, or Flags of the Covenant, which would undertake the project. Shlayan wants international Christian organizations also to support it.

Nazareth's population is 69 percent Muslim and 30.9 percent Christian, according to 2009 data by the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics.

The plan is likely to face opposition from some people and groups. "People who are against it, it comes from jealousy," said Shlayan, adding that some Muslims and Jews are not happy with it.

The opponents include the supporters of the new Muslim mayor, Ali Salam, who have said they would prefer a statue of the mayor rather than that of Jesus.

"I don't believe in statues, but it is a symbol of love and peace," Shlayan said.

The project is part of Shlayan's larger plan to start a Christian Arab political party, which would be called "Bnei Habrit [Allies of the Covenant], the Christian party of Israel," and support Israel as a Jewish state and national or army service for Arabs.

Robert Goldberg, an ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees of The Jewish Federations of North America (formerly UJC) has shown support for the proposed party, Shlayan said.

Baptist Church Decides to Remove Jesus Statue That’s ‘Too Catholic’

A Baptist church’s decision to remove a statue of Jesus it deems “too Catholic” has divided Christians on social media.

The 7-foot-tall statue has stood at Red Bank Baptist Church in South Carolina since 2007, The State newspaper reported.

"We have discovered that there are people that view the art as Catholic in nature. We understand that this is not a Catholic icon, however, people perceive it in these terms," read a letter to the artist from church pastor Jeff Wright and Mike Dennis, the church's chairman of deacons.

Bert Baker Jr. is the artist who carved the statue. He is a former member of the church.

"I'm not interested in stirring the pot, but people not liking it because it looked too Catholic is crazy, man. It's been up there for 11 years," Baker told The State. "I don't agree with the letter, it bothers me."

On Facebook, Christians were split on the church’s move.

“Heaven won't be divided by Lutherans, Methodists, Baptist or Catholics,” Jill Rogers wrote on The State’s Facebook issue. “It seems they are pulling out from Christianity all together. Did someone make them worship this statue. I think not. Seems they need to be worrying about souls as statues. It's a sad day for Christianity.”

Another person, Deborah Lynn, wrote, “Why do y'all hate Catholics so much? Do I look too Catholic because I have red hair? If I wanted to go to your church would I be removed because of my Catholic looking red hair? Stop pretending the Baptist church isn't anti-Catholic.”

But some said the issue is a church issue and shouldn’t be in the news.

“Since the Current membership voted to remove the statue this is not much of a news issue,” Benjamin Cliatt wrote. “I see it as a media attempt to create news as opposed to reporting it. Stir the pot to create an issue from a church membership decision.”

Wrote Douglas Baer, “Must have been a slow news day.”
