Hoodies in church: In Sunday sermons about Trayvon Martin, calls for justice from the pulpit

In their Sunday sermons, pastors and church leaders across the country mourned the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, the unarmed 17-year-old African-American who was killed in Sanford, Fla., last month. Some wore hoodies in Martin's honor. Many church-goers did the same.

In Atlanta, dozens wore hoodies in Martin's memory at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, where Martin Luther King Jr. once preached.

"They said his name was Trayvon Martin," a hoodie-clad Rev. Raphael Warnock said. "But he looked like Emmett Till," a reference to the 1955 case of a 14-year-old boy who was lynched for allegedly whistling at a white woman. "At least with Emmett Till someone was arrested. And that was in 1955."

Many others called for justice in the case--and for George Zimmerman, the Neighborhood Watch captain who shot Martin, to be arrested.

Rev. Jesse Jackson called Martin a "martyr," and led the congregation at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Eatonville, Fla., in a chant: "Stop the violence. Save the children."

This whole story really bothers me. No one, and that includes everyone in the media and especially Al the conman Sharpton, has no idea of what happened here. The truth is slowly being leaked out, and it looks like this Trayvon Martin just might be cupable in what happened.

Quote
Rev. Jesse Jackson

When you see these shakedown artists show up and rant, than you know the truth isnt out there. Him and his shakedown buddy Sharpton already have blood on their hands and they are stirring up the racism pot to keep their own coffers full. These are 2 of the most racist people on the planet for using their own race to make money. Wake up people.

Former NAACP leader accuses Sharpton and Jackson of ‘exploiting’ Trayvon Martin

about time  Smiley

Former NAACP leader C.L. Bryant is accusing Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton of “exploiting” the Trayvon Martin tragedy to “racially divide this country.”

“His family should be outraged at the fact that they’re using this child as the bait to inflame racial passions,” Rev. C.L. Bryant said in a Monday interview with The Daily Caller.

The conservative black pastor who was once the chapter president of the Garland, Texas NAACP called Jackson and Sharpton “race hustlers” and said they are “acting as though they are buzzards circling the carcass of this young boy.”

Jackson, for example, recently said Martin’s death shows how “blacks are under attack” and “targeting, arresting, convicting blacks and ultimately killing us is big business.”  (SEE ALSO: Jesse Jackson says Trayvon Martin ‘murdered and martyred’)

George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch captain, killed Martin, a 17-year-old black man who was unarmed at the time of his death, last month. Zimmerman has claimed to have shot Martin in self-defense and has not been charged with a crime.

But Bryant, who explores the topic of black-on-black crime in his new film “Runaway Slave,” said people like Jackson and Sharpton are being misleading to suggest there is an epidemic of “white men killing black young men.”

“The epidemic is truly black on black crime,” Bryant said. “The greatest danger to the lives of young black men are young black men.”

Mother Seeks Trayvon Martin TrademarksRecords: Late teenager's kin filed pair of applications last week

WOW!! guess its only "racism" when your cashin in on your boys "murder" Yep you can AL and Jesse's influence...

The mother of Trayvon Martin has filed two applications to secure trademarks containing her late son’s name, records show.

Sabrina Fulton is seeking marks for the phrases “I Am Trayvon” and “Justice for Trayvon,” according to filings made last week with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. In both instances, Fulton is seeking the trademarks for use on “Digital materials, namely, CDs and DVDs featuring Trayvon Martin,” and other products.

The March 21 USPTO applications, each of which cost $325, were filed by an Orlando, Florida law firm representing Fulton.

The Politics of Tragedy

For Obama and the liberal media, Trayvon Martin is a character in an election-year narrative.

President Obama declared in a press conference Friday that Trayvon Martin, the 17-year old African-American student fatally shot by Florida neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman in February, looks like his own hypothetical son. "If I had a son," Obama declared, "he would look like Trayvon." The racial implication of the president's statement was clear. The man who gained national prominence with a 2004 Democratic Convention speech calling for cultural unity stood in the Rose Garden of the White House and furthered the racial tension surrounding Martin's shooting. In a politicized national debate in which the Washington Post accused Zimmerman of "murder" and mainstream media writers call for the man's arrest, President Obama opined on an issue on which he -- like everyone else -- is not fully informed.

"Every parent in America should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this and everybody pulls together, federal state and local, to figure out exactly how this tragedy happened" Obama said. According to the Los Angeles Times, Obama spoke to the Rev. Al Sharpton on the phone Thursday, and aides believed that they discussed the shooting.

Not to be outdone, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney went a step further. "What happened to Trayvon Martin is a tragedy," Romney said. "There needs to be a thorough investigation that reassures the public that justice is carried out with impartiality and integrity." According to our potential future president, "reassuring the public" must factor into a criminal investigation.

Unfortunately for all parties involved, the public has heard nothing but the media's politicized commentary, wrapped into a narrative written before the facts of the case were fully disclosed. It's a narrative that exploits Martin's death from all angles. Some media commentators want to use the shooting to help repeal the "Stand Your Ground" self-defense laws enacted in states across the country primarily by Republican lawmakers. Others, like well-funded professional activists Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, stand to gain from pushing the idea that police officers are uniformly racist and that shootings of African-American men are implicitly condoned.

Woops... Looks like all these shake down artists have some apologizing to do.  Roll Eyes

Registered Dem Killed Trayvon
Meet registered Democrat and self-identified Hispanic American, George Zimmerman

The individual at the center of the controversial Trayvon Martin shooting is a registered Democrat.

George Michael Zimmerman, born Oct. 5, 1983, registered as a Democrat in Seminole County, Fla., in August 2002, according to state voter registration documents.

It is unclear whether he voted for President Barack Obama in 2008.

Some in the media have sought to blame Republican politicians and conservative activists for Martin’s death.

“[Republican politicians] reinforce and validate old stereotypes that associate the poor and welfare as criminal behavior with African-Americans and people of color, calling us lazy, undeserving recipients of public assistance. In the case of Trayvon, those festering stereotypes had lethal consequences,” said MSNBC political analyst and Democratic fundraiser Karen Finney.

According to the document, Zimmerman’s race is officially listed as Hispanic. The son of a white father and Peruvian mother, he has been described as a “white Hispanic” in most media reports.

Following the Feb. 26 fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in a Sanford, Fla. gated community, Zimmerman has been the target of widespread outrage.

Zimmerman shot and killed Martin following a physical confrontation, but has yet to be charged with a crime. He says he acted in self-defense, a claim supported by the Sanford, Fla., Police Department investigating the case.

Protesters and activists led by professional racial justice advocates Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have suggested Martin’s killing was racially motivated, and have called for Zimmerman’s arrest.

“We want George Zimmerman in court with handcuffs behind his back,” Sharpton said last week.

Martin’s mother, Sabrina Fulton, has alleged that Zimmerman killed her son “because of the color of his skin.”

Craig Sonner, the attorney representing Zimmerman, has denied such allegations, noting that his client has acted as a mentor to a black single mother and her two children, and had helped them raise money for their all-black church.

For Zimmerman’s safety, the Free Beacon has redacted his address from the registration document. The New Black Panther Party has offered a $10,000 bounty for Zimmerman’s capture.

Spike Lee tweeted incorrect George Zimmerman address, possibly putting Sanford woman in danger

Why isnt this guy being arrested? He could and possibly still can get this lady killed.

Filmmaker Spike Lee tweeted the wrong home address for George Zimmerman, the Sanford, Fla., man who many are claiming should be arrested for shooting and killing Trayvon Martin. The tweet could have potentially put the woman who actually lives at that address in danger.

The Washington Times’ Kerry Picket went to the address that Lee tweeted as members of the New Black Panther Party were offering a $10,000 cash reward for Zimmerman’s capture, “dead or alive,” and others were demanding his arrest.

“[T]he Edgewater Circle address Mr. Lee re-tweeted out is not part of the gated Retreat at Twin Lakes where the shooting took place and where Mr. Zimmerman lives,” Picket reported. “The area is not even a gated a community.”

“In fact, I took a drive to that Edgewater Circle address that so many on Twitter re-tweeted and cursed, and I discovered through a neighbor, named Tim, who lives across the street from the address, that not only does George Zimmerman not live at the lakeside house but a woman by the name of Elaine does,” Picket added.

Picket also said several news agencies have showed up at the address looking for Zimmerman, which – with the crowds the Panthers, MSNBC’s Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have whipped up into a frenzy – may have put the woman, Elaine, in danger.

It’s unclear specifically which news agencies trekked to the address Lee tweeted and why they failed to report Lee’s inaccuracy.

This report follows new revelations in the Martin case, including Zimmerman’s self-described membership in the Democratic Party, freshly surfaced tweets from Martin’s Twitter account, and Martin’s various suspensions from school.

Al Sharpton: Civil disobedience will escalate if Zimmerman remains free

If George Zimmerman is not arrested in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin soon, theRev. Al Sharpton will call for an escalation in peaceful civil disobedience and economic sanctions.

Sharpton would not say the efforts would be taken against the city of Sanford specifically, but he has been critical of the police department's handling of the case.

Saturday's scheduled 11 a.m. march from Crooms Academy of Information Technology to the Sanford Police Department headquarters was organized by National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Coordinators said people will be bused in from other states to participate.

The civil rights activist and syndicated television show host said he will elaborate on this plan Saturday.

"I will speak about how the National Action Network will move to the next level if Zimmerman isn't arrested," Sharpton said, who founded the organization. He added that it was the Martin family and lawyers who first asked him to get involved and nationalize this story.

TheRev. Jesse Jacksonis also expected to participate in the event.

The case has ignited ire and debate across the nation, galvanizing thousands of Trayvon supporters to the streets and social media, donning hoodies and toting Skittles.

Civil rights leaders condemn Sharpton's call for escalated civil disobedience

Rally Saturday in Sanford hosted by NAACP

The Rev. Al Sharpton said Friday his National Action Network will "move to the next level" if George Zimmerman is not arrested in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Sharpton called for an escalation in peaceful civil disobedience and economic sanctions, although he did not say what those sanctions might be.

Turner Clayton, the Seminole County chapter president of the NAACP, reacted immediately to Sharpton's warning, saying, "We hope that the citizens of Sanford will govern themselves accordingly. We are not calling for any sanctions, against any business or anyone else. And, of course, what Rev. Sharpton does, that's strictly the [National] Action Network.  We can't condone that part of the conversation, if that's what he said."

Excerpt:

Rick Warren on Ministering to Trayvon Martin Community

ABC News

The Trayvon Martin shooting in Sanford, Fla. has gripped the nation in recent weeks, with many questions still unanswered about the controversial shooting death of the unarmed 17-year-old by neighborhood watch member George Zimmerman. I asked Pastor Rick Warren how he would minister to the community there.

TAPPER: If you were the pastor in Sanford, Fla., how would you minister to the people in that community, where there is so much pain? What needs to be addressed in that community?

WARREN: Well, first place, let me say, I don't know the specifics of that story, so I can't comment on it. In fact, I was in Africa when it happened, and I was there for 10 days. And so I'm behind the ball on that. But I will say this. I think one of the most prevalent sins around the world is racism. I have seen prejudice literally all around the world, not just between races, between gender, between political parties, prejudice between economic societies.

WARREN: This conflict that happens all around the world, and the reason why is, we're not at peace with God. When we're not at peace with God, then we're not at peace with each other. That's why Jesus said, "Love God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself." "Get right with God, get right with others." "'Be reconciled to God, be reconciled with each other.' That's the first letter of the PEACE Plan to promote reconciliation.

WARREN: And so what I would be doing as a pastor would be promoting reconciliation in this issue. Martin Luther King was brilliant in that he knew we do not overcome evil with more evil. Violence only begets violence. Leaders absorb the pain. And you overcome evil with good. I would be promoting reconciliation between all of the parties there, and at the same time I would still be working for racial equality.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, scripture says NOTHING about "being reconciled with each other".

Rom 10:9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Rom 10:11  For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed
.

Eph 4:1  I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
Eph 4:2  With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
Eph 4:3  Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Eph 4:4  There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
Eph 4:5  One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
Eph 4:6  One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
Eph 4:7  But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
Eph 4:8  Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
Eph 4:9  (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
Eph 4:10  He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
Eph 4:11  And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Eph 4:12  For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Eph 4:13  Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
Eph 4:14  That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
Eph 4:15  But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
Eph 4:16  From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
Eph 4:17  This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
Eph 4:18  Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
Eph 4:19  Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
Eph 4:20  But ye have not so learned Christ;
Eph 4:21  If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
Eph 4:22  That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
Eph 4:23  And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
Eph 4:24  And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Eph 4:25  Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another

OK, this article may be slightly off-topic, however, it seems like the agenda in this article is using the Trayvon Martin ordeal to try to paint the Southern Baptist Convention in a good light by saying how "racial diversity" they have become by likely electing Fred Luter as their 1st SBC President. FYI, I posted this in another thread in another forum here, but just to sum it up, Luter is a member of his city's INTERFAITH group. This is DEFINITELY NOT good for ANYONE to appoint an Apostate to a position like this. If the blind follow the blind, both shall fall into the ditch...

Editorial: Fred Luter, Trayvon Martin and the Gospel

Apr 4, 2012
By JAMES A. SMITH SR.

Southern Baptists may make history in June—and the Gospel will be served immeasurably if they do.

Perhaps it will not be as societally transformative as when Jackie Robinson first took to the baseball diamond for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.

None would argue it would eclipse the importance in American history as when Barack Obama took the oath of office as president of the United States on Jan. 20, 2009.

But the likely election of Fred Luter as the first African American president of the Southern Baptist Convention in New Orleans this summer will indeed be history making, impacting American society far beyond the confines of the Southern Baptist life.

And, while few Southern Baptists would underestimate the cultural significance of Luter’s election (which, it should be noted, is not a fait accompli), the long overdue election of a black man to lead Southern Baptists could be incalculably meaningful for the advancement of the Gospel in our rapidly increasing ethnically diverse nation.

That this may be so can be seen in the Florida—indeed, nationwide—controversy and racial unrest that has arisen in recent weeks after the killing of Trayvon Martin in Sanford.

Until all the facts are known, it’s too soon to draw conclusions about guilt over the tragic incident that resulted in Martin’s Feb. 26 death at the hands of neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman, who remains in hiding (as of April 2). Indeed, far too many assumptions have been made, intensifying racial tensions, especially due to some incredibly irresponsible actions by certain national figures and celebrities.

Still, while the investigation continues and we pray for justice to be done, Trayvon Martin’s death and the controversy about it is a reminder of how difficult the race issue is for our society—and why only the Gospel can bridge the racial and ethnic divide that mars humanity (Eph. 2:11-22). Huh Huh

Eph 2:11  Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
Eph 2:12  That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
Eph 2:13  But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
Eph 2:14  For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
Eph 2:15  Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
Eph 2:16  And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
Eph 2:17  And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
Eph 2:18  For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
Eph 2:19  Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
Eph 2:20  And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
Eph 2:21  In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
Eph 2:22  In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

In a Baptist Press article about Martin, Southern Baptist African American leaders Maxie Miller and Kevin Smith speak passionately about the challenges still facing blacks in our society.

“As a black man, I am a suspect, not because of what I do or because of what I’ve done, but basically because of who I am, being black. I’m perceived a suspect just by being black,” said Miller, African American church planting team strategist for the Florida Baptist Convention.

Smith, a Kentucky pastor and professor at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, said when he travels to preach at rural churches, he is mindful that his skin color sometimes matters. Often, he’ll enlist men from the churches to accompany him.

“I laugh about taking guys with me, but there’s also a serious side to that—not regarding the Southern Baptist churches where I’m preaching, but regarding everything I must do to get there—the gas stations where I’m stopping, and the restaurants where I’m stopping, and all those kinds of things,” Smith told BP.

While I can empathize with my brothers Miller and Smith, as a white man I will never truly understand the challenges they face. Needless to say, Fred Luter does—and it’s one of many reasons why it’s long past time for an African American to lead Southern Baptists.

To be sure, Luter is not qualified to be president of the Southern Baptist Convention because of the pigment of his skin. Southern Baptists have consistently rejected the notion of racial quotas. Many believe, as I do, in Martin Luther King’s “dream” of a color-blind society where persons “will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

Luter’s accomplishments as a leading Southern Baptist expositor of God’s Word is widely known. For years, he has been a favorite preacher for many Southern Baptist Pastors’ Conference meetings and other national and state denominational meetings. Luter’s pastoral leadership of the geographically dispersed membership of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in New Orleans in the wake of the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina was nothing less than heroic. And, he has modeled increasing cooperation through missions giving by his congregation.

Clearly, Luter is a model minister greatly used of God who is ready to lead Southern Baptists. FYI, read the TIME magazine interview he did last year, he did NOT mention the name of Jesus Christ even once! --> http://endtimesandcurrentevents.freesmfhosting.com/index.php/topic,6030.0.html

I need to note, however, I’m not establishing a new precedent of endorsing SBC presidential candidates. That’s a role more properly suited to others.

Instead, I am repeating a conviction previously expressed (as recently as a March 9, 2011, editorial, “Toward an ethnically diverse SBC leadership”) that Southern Baptists need to make a conscious, yet non-quota-based effort to recognize African Americans and other ethnic and racial minority leaders as leaders.

Luter’s possible election has already received considerable attention from secular media across the nation—indeed, around the world. Each news account notes the historical significance of his prospective election, with many tying the development back to the 1995 apology for slavery adopted on the SBC’s 150th anniversary.

I don’t think it’s overstating the matter to say that the advancement of the Gospel is impeded the longer Southern Baptists go without involving African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities in significant leadership positions—preeminently, the SBC presidency.

In the meantime, Southern Baptist African Americans can help teach us all how to address the racial concerns of blacks. Kevin Smith’s winsome, Gospel-focused attitude is one that all Southern Baptists from all racial and ethnic backgrounds should emulate.

In his comments to BP, Smith pointed to the “common heritage in the Gospel of Jesus Christ” shared by Southern Baptists from all backgrounds.

“That is our bottom line, and it ought to give us more urgency for sharing the Gospel because public policy and social engineering cannot fix the sinfulness of humanity,” Smith added.

Because of that urgency, Southern Baptists should be willing to take steps to remove barriers that may impede Gospel advancement.

Some day, likely only too soon, another racial controversy will engulf our nation. It’s long past time that the Southern Baptist “face” addressing such a controversy is one that looks familiar to those who feel their concerns are taken less than seriously by the broader culture. When that happens, the Gospel will have a greater opportunity for advancement and God will be glorified.

George Zimmerman Sues NBC Over Edited 911 Tape

In March, NewsBusters broke the story about NBC's Today show airing an edited audiotape of George Zimmerman's 911 call the day he shot Trayvon Martin in Florida.

On Thursday, the New York Post reported Zimmerman is suing the Peacock Network.

According to the Post, the complaint will be filed against NBC News President Steve Capus and correspondent Ron Allen who was the Today reporter involved in the March 27 broadcast.

A source told the Post, “The suit will be filed imminently against NBC and its news executives. The network’s legal department has put everybody in the news department involved with this incident on notice, telling them not to comment.”

As NewsBusters noted at the time, Today played an audiotape with Zimmerman saying on a 911 call, "This guy looks like he’s up to no good...he looks black."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But this was the fuller text of the call:

ZIMMERMAN: This guy looks like he's up to no good, or he's on drugs or something. It's raining, and he's just walking around, looking about.

911 DISPATCHER: Okay, is this guy, is he white, black, or Hispanic?

ZIMMERMAN: He looks black.

NBC deceptively removed the question from the 911 dispatcher to make it appear Zimmerman was racist, a mistake the network ended up apologizing for.

I hope he takes them to the bank, this deserves millions in a pay out for what they did.

That was no mistake. It was intentional, not only for the sake of the story, but because their bosses told them to, in order to project a certain mentality on the topic, and I suspect they got their orders from Washington.

Same kind of deal with the Atlanta Olympics and the security guard they drug through hell and back, only in the end for the government to say, "Oops our bad! Wrong guy." It was all planned and staged to get America to think a certain way. It's social manipulation, and it's outright evil.

State's main witness in George Zimmerman murder case lied

Just about everybody in this whole case has lied, from the President all the down...

Trayvon Martin's girlfriend, the state's most important witness in the George Zimmerman murder case, was caught in a lie, it was revealed Tuesday.

It was not the first piece of misinformation tied to her, but it was the most damaging to date and left prosecutors in a very awkward position.

They had to publicly acknowledge that their star witness had lied under oath and had to answer questions about what they intend to do about it.

Reporters asked: Will you charge the 19-year-old Miami woman with perjury?

The state's lead prosecutor, Bernie de la Rionda, gave an ambiguous answer: "You can all read the law and make your own decision."

The woman had told prosecutors she was in the hospital on the day of Trayvon's funeral.

"In fact, she lied," defense attorney Don West said.

The disclosure was one of two major developments Tuesday at what had been expected to be a dull hearing about the exchange of case evidence.

The other: Zimmerman's lawyers will not hold a "stand your ground" hearing in April, one that could clear him of criminal wrongdoing before his trial.

Defense attorney Mark O'Mara made that announcement in court, later saying he had not yet decided whether to scrap it entirely or roll it into Zimmerman's second-degree-murder trial set for June 10.

"Our real focus is getting ready for the trial," O'Mara said.

What Zimmerman most wants is to be tried by a jury of his peers, O'Mara said, and with fewer than 100 days until trial, "There's only time for one hearing, and that's a jury trial. … We have precious little time."

Zimmerman was not at Tuesday's hearing. Neither was his wife, Shellie, who's awaiting trial on a perjury charge, accused of lying at her husband's April 20 bond hearing. That's what prompted the perjury question to de la Rionda.

If defense lawyers decide to forgo George Zimmerman's immunity hearing, they would be cutting in half their number of opportunities to spare him from a life in prison.

Florida's "stand your ground" statute has generated a great deal of public debate since Trayvon's death one year ago in Sanford. It provides immunity to anyone who uses deadly force, provided he has a reasonable fear of imminent death or great bodily injury.

Zimmerman says he shot Trayvon in self-defense.

Because of Circuit Judge Debra S. Nelson's very tight schedule, when O'Mara told her he would not put on a two-week "stand your ground" hearing starting April 22, he essentially told her he would not hold that hearing before Zimmerman's trial.

She did not press him to spell out his plans.

De la Rionda said he was "bewildered" by O'Mara's decision but did not elaborate.

Zimmerman, a 29-year-old former Neighborhood Watch volunteer, called Sanford police Feb. 26, 2012, describing Trayvon as suspicious. Zimmerman shot the unarmed high-school junior a few minutes later, saying he fired in self-defense after the Miami Gardens 17-year-old punched him, broke his nose, then began pounding his head onto a sidewalk.

Sanford police found no witnesses to the initial confrontation, but Trayvon's family attorney, Benjamin Crump, found something close: Trayvon's girlfriend, identified in court records as "witness 8." She told Crump she had been on the phone with Trayvon just before the shooting.

According to an interview Crump recorded after the shooting, the young woman said Trayvon told her a stranger was following him, and he was scared. Trayvon got away from him once, but the man reappeared, she said, and she heard Trayvon ask, "'What are you following me for?'"

The man answered, "'What are you doing here?'" she said, and then she said the man must have pushed Trayvon because the phone went dead.

The woman gave de la Rionda a very similar account during a sworn statement April 2, and when his office wrote up its probable-cause affidavit, charging Zimmerman with second-degree murder, it rehashed her account but did not include her allegation that she heard Zimmerman push Trayvon.

Despite's Tuesday's revelation, there is no indication the woman lied about what she heard on the phone the evening Trayvon was shot. But she appears to have given Crump another piece of bad information: her age.

He told reporters in March, when he played excerpts from the recorded interview, that she was 16 years old. In fact, she was 18 at the time. Crump has said he did not knowingly misrepresent her age.

O'Mara would not say whether the woman should be prosecuted for perjury for lying under oath about being in the hospital.

But months ago, he and co-counsel Don West began trying to investigate her. They earlier persuaded the judge to allow them to subpoena her Twitter and Facebook accounts so they can read her posts.

It's amazing how rotten this "justice" system is - for one, we were taught how this system is set up where for every 10 people that get tried for crimes, 9 guilty people walk free...meaning rarely do the innocent get falsely convicted.

Not from what we've seen, especially recently - Casey Anthony is one example(no evidence against her, physical or otherwise), but they had to put her through all that ordeal(and ended up making books and movies over her). And while I'm not defending Drew Peterson, he ended up getting convicted largely b/c of "heresy" evidence that was unlawful for many, many years(and subsequently national media attention, books, and movies were made over this).

Sometimes I wonder what all of the true agendas are behind this(other than the love of money)...

All-women jury chosen for George Zimmerman's trial
6/20/13

SANFORD, Fla. (AP) — A jury of six women, five of them white, was picked Thursday to decide the second-degree murder trial of George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer who says he fatally shot Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager, in self-defense.

Prosecutors have said Zimmerman, 29, racially profiled the 17-year-old Martin as he walked back from a convenience store on a rainy night in February 2012 wearing a dark hooded shirt.

The race and ethnicity of the sixth juror was not immediately available. Zimmerman identifies himself as Hispanic.

Two of the jurors recently moved to the area — one from Iowa and one from Chicago — and two are involved with rescuing animals as their hobbies.

One juror had a prior arrest, but she said it was disposed of and she thought she was treated fairly. Two jurors have guns in their homes. All of their names have been kept confidential and the panel will be sequestered for the trial.

Opening statements are scheduled for Monday.

The central Florida community of Sanford is in Seminole County, which is 78.5 percent white and 16.5 percent black, roughly mirroring the jury's racial makeup.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys chose the panel of six jurors after almost two weeks of jury selection. In Florida, 12 jurors are required only for criminal trials involving capital cases, when the death penalty is being considered.

If convicted, Zimmerman could face a potential life sentence.

On Feb. 26, 2012, Zimmerman spotted Martin, whom he did not recognize, walking in the gated townhome community where Zimmerman lived and the fiancee of Martin's father also resided. There had been a rash of recent break-ins at the Retreat, and Zimmerman was wary of strangers walking through the complex.

The two eventually got into a struggle and Zimmerman shot Martin in the chest with his 9mm handgun. He was charged 44 days after the shooting, only after a special prosecutor was appointed to review the case.

Martin's shooting death and the initial decision not to charge Zimmerman led to public outrage and demonstrations around the nation, with some accusing Sanford police of failing to thoroughly investigate the shooting.

The six jurors were culled from a pool of 40 candidates who made it into a second round of jury questioning. Two men and two women also were picked as alternate jurors.

Before selecting the jurors Thursday, defense attorney Mark O'Mara explored potential jurors' views on guns, self-defense and justifiable use of force.

Under Florida law, Zimmerman could shoot Martin in self-defense if it was necessary to prevent death or great bodily harm. O'Mara previously decided not to invoke a "stand your ground" hearing in which a judge alone would decide whether to dismiss the case or allow it to proceed to trial.

After the jury was picked, Judge Debra Nelson continued a hearing on whether to allow experts to testify about screams heard on 911 calls made during the struggle. Prosecutors want their expert to testify it was Martin screaming on the calls. An expert for Zimmerman's defense has said there is not enough audio to determine who the screams are coming from.

George Zimmerman's Family Ordered to Leave Courtroom at Start of Trial

The racially charged trial of George Zimmerman for the killing of teenager Trayvon Martin began in a Florida courtroom today with an emotional statement by Martin's mother and the judge sending Zimmerman's family out of the courtroom.

The case that renewed America's long, bitter and polarizing debate about race and guns opened today in Sanford, Fla., 16 months after Martin was shot dead by Zimmerman.

The drama began before opening statements could be introduced. On her way into court, Martin's mother, Sybrina Fulton, gave a statement.

"I'm here today as Trayvon Martin's mom as I have been every day. I will be attending every day to get justice for my son," Fulton said moments before she and Martin's father entered the court. "I ask that you pray for me and my family because I don't want any other mother to have to experience what I am going through now."

Before prosecutors began with their opening statements, a lawyer for the family, Benjamin Crump, summed up the arguments prosecutors may make.

"We think this is a simple case. There are two important facts. Number one, George Zimmerman was a grown man with a gun. And number two, Trayvon Martin was a minor who had no blood on his hands." Crump said.

Once inside the courtroom, the families of Martin and Zimmerman settled into seats, but Judge Debra Nelson ordered Zimmerman's family to leave the room since they are on a list of possible witnesses who might be called.

Martin's parents were allowed to stay and watch the proceedings.

According to Florida law, a victim's family can stay inside a courtroom and watch the proceedings. However, no such rule covers family rights for the accused.

Crump was also kicked out of court.

Prosecutors will begin opening statements in the second-degree murder trial against Zimmerman by trying to paint the former neighborhood watch captain as a "wannabe cop" who over-stepped his role in the community. They will argue that he profiled, followed and, ultimately, killed a 17-year-old high school student who was innocently walking to his father's girlfriend's home after leaving a convenience store.

George Zimmerman Judge Denies Use of State Audio Experts' Testimony

Zimmerman's team might counter by highlighting the medical reports, photographs and relatively "consistent" statements he made to police immediately after the shooting that Martin aggressively confronted him and banged his head on the sidewalk several times and that the two struggled over Zimmerman's gun until he pulled the trigger. They will assert he killed the teen while trying to defend his own life.

"To prove second-degree murder, prosecutors must prove that Zimmerman was filled with ill-will, hatred or spite," said criminal defense attorney Mark Eiglarsh, who has no connection to the case. "Jurors can consider a lesser charge of manslaughter if they think what Zimmerman did was unlawful but didn't contain those necessary elements."

For the next two to four weeks, the jury might hear from neighbors who saw or heard some kinds of struggle between both men Feb. 26, 2012, and called 911 from help. But none of the potential witnesses saw who initiated the altercation, nor intervened even when one of the two men cried out for help. Significant Numbers in George Zimmerman case

Who was howling for help in those 911 tapes might become one of the most important questions to be weighed by the jury of six woman. They will have to decide for themselves after Circuit Judge Debra Nelson banned the testimony of two audio experts who said they could hear Martin begging for his life on those tapes.

Full Coverage of the George Zimmerman Trial

After opening statements, the state is expected to begin calling witnesses to the stand. Among those who might eventually testify is a young woman known as W8 who was on the phone with Martin five minutes before he was shot and said the teen was unnerved by and afraid of Zimmerman.

A jury might also eventually watch a re-enactment video filmed by police of a bandaged Zimmerman in the days after the shooting recounting his story to skeptical investigators. Zimmerman gave several video and audio statements to police in the days after the shooting, and his legal team says that might be the reason he never takes the stand in this case.

"At a minimum, what's at stake is a potential life sentence for [Zimmerman], who believes, as do his supporters, that he was the victim, and not Trayvon," Eiglarsh, the attorney, said. "But because of the long history of racial tension in Sanford, Florida, there are many people who believe that the only verdict that speaks the truth, the only justice, is guilty."

Trayvon Martin Drug Photos Can't Be Mentioned, Judge Says

The case has gripped and divided the central Florida community of Sanford from the beginning. The Seminole County courthouse instituted a lottery for the public interested in watching the case, and set up protest areas for those looking to vocalize their opinion. But only a handful of protesters showed up during the nine-day jury selection.

The six jurors and four alternates who will hear opening statements are now isolated, away from their homes, with minimal contact with family and friends until the trial ends.Timeline of George Zimmerman-Trayvon Martin Case

Both sides say sequestration will help eliminate juror exposure to outside influence as this controversial case kicks off. It's one of the few areas of agreement between all sides.

This is such a railroad. I mean ALL of the presecution whitnesses are backing up the DEFENCE!!!! Why isnt this thrown out yet!!!

Judge strikes detective statements on Zimmerman

It was the prosecutors own whitness!!!!  Cheesy

A prosecutor in George Zimmerman's murder trial on Tuesday tried to pick apart the statements of a Sanford Police detective who had been called as a prosecution witness a day before but gave testimony that seemed to benefit the defense.

Prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda began by asking the judge to strike from the record a statement Detective Chris Serino made Monday in which he said he found credible Zimmerman's account of how he got into a fight with Trayvon Martin. De la Rionda argued the statement was improper because one witness isn't allowed to give an opinion on the credibility of another witness. Defense attorney Mark O'Mara argued it was proper because Serino was vetting Zimmerman's veracity in his probe.

Judge Debra Nelson told jurors to disregard the statement.

"This is an improper comment," the judge said.

De la Rionda then questioned Serino about his opinion given Monday that he didn't believe Zimmerman displayed any ill will or spite to Martin. Prosecutors must prove there was ill will, spite or a depraved mind by the defendant to get a second-degree murder conviction.

Sanford, Fla., police officer Chris Serino identifies George Zimmerman in the courtroom during the 1 …

De la Rionda played back a police call Zimmerman had made to report Martin in the neighborhood: Zimmerman uses an expletive and "punks" and then says, "These a-------. They always get away." The prosecutor asked the investigator if those words showed some spite, and Serino said "a little."

Next, de la Rionda challenged Serino's contention that he found Zimmerman's story without major inconsistencies. The prosecutor played back Zimmerman's police interview in which investigators question Zimmerman about small differences in the neighborhood volunteer's story. The prosecutor also pointed out Zimmerman claimed that after he shot Martin, he spread out the teen's arms. But a photo taken immediately after the shooting shows Martin's arms under his body.

"Is that inconsistent with the defendant's statement he spread the arms out?" de la Rionda asked.

"That position, yes it is," Serino said.

It was Serino's second day on the witness stand. He and another investigator, Doris Singleton, testified Monday about their investigation as jurors heard a series of police interviews in which the detectives grew more pointed in their questioning.

In an early interview, just hours after the Feb. 26, 2012, shooting, Singleton recounted that Zimmerman noticed a cross she was wearing and said: "In Catholic religion, it's always wrong to kill someone."

Singleton said she responded, "If what you're telling me is true, I don't think that what God meant was that you couldn't save your own life."

But in an interview days later, Singleton and Serino suggest that Zimmerman was running after Martin before the confrontation. They also ask Zimmerman why he didn't explain to Martin why he was following him. The officers insinuate that Martin may have been "creeped out" by being followed.

"Do you think he was scared?" Singleton asked Zimmerman in one video interview.

Under cross-examination, though, Serino said Zimmerman seemed straightforward in his answers and didn't show any anger when talking about Martin. Serino said the increasingly pointed questioning is a tactic known as a "challenge interview," where detectives try to break someone's story to make sure they're telling the truth.

Zimmerman has said he fatally shot the unarmed black teen in self-defense in February, 2012, because he says Martin was banging his head into a concrete sidewalk behind townhomes in a gated community. Zimmerman, 29, could get life in prison if convicted of second-degree murder.

The state argued during its opening statement that Zimmerman profiled and followed Martin in his truck and called a police dispatch number before he and the teenager got into a fight. Zimmerman has denied the confrontation had anything to do with race, as Martin's family and their supporters have claimed. A 44-day delay in Zimmerman's arrest led to protests around the nation; he was ultimately charged by a Florida special prosecutor. Zimmerman's father is white and his mother is Hispanic.

In his first interview at the police station, Zimmerman said he saw Martin walking through his neighborhood on a dark, rainy night while Zimmerman was driving to the grocery store. He told Singleton that he didn't recognize Martin and that there had been recent break-ins at his townhome complex.

Zimmerman told the police officer that he lost track of Martin and got out of his truck to look for a street name he could relay to a police dispatcher. When the dispatcher suggested Zimmerman didn't need to follow Martin, Zimmerman started to head back to his vehicle. At that point, Zimmerman alleged, Martin jumped out of some bushes, punched him and he fell to the ground.

Zimmerman said Martin began hitting his head against the sidewalk as Zimmerman yelled for help and that Martin told him, "You're going to die tonight."

With Zimmerman's shirt and jacket pushed up during the struggle and his holstered gun now visible, he thought Martin was reaching for his firearm holstered around his waist. Zimmerman told the officer that he shot Martin and the teen said, "You got me."

FYI, the judge in this case(Debra Nelson) is a Jeb Bush appointee.

http://judgepedia.org/index.php/Debra_Steinberg_Nelson
Quote
Debra Steinberg Nelson is a Seminole County judge of the 18th Judicial Circuit Court in Florida. She was appointed by then-Governor Jeb Bush in May of 1999 (effective in June). Her current term expires in January of 2019.

She ended up replacing the previous judge over this case(Kenneth Lester) after Zimmerman's defense requested so.

George Zimmerman’s Lawyer Gets Judge Removed
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2012/08/george-zimmermans-lawyer-gets-judge-removed/

Yes, I agree Zimmerman's defense did the right thing getting Lester removed(as explained in this link), but nonetheless pretty much a judge more reprobate replaced him.

Pt being that let's not get caught up thinking that this whole thing was spearheaded by Obama/Holder alone.

The world loves its own...

Zimmerman Lawyers Were Once Supporters Of Judge Who Has Knocked Them About Florida Courtroom
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/buster/trayvon-martin/judge-debra-nelson-873407

Years before they would endure a televised pummeling in the Florida courtroom of Judge Debra Nelson, the two lawyers representing accused murderer George Zimmerman actually donated money to the prickly jurist’s first election campaign, records show.

In 1999, Republican Governor Jeb Bush appointed Nelson, a lifelong Democrat, to fill a vacancy in the 18th Judicial Circuit (covering Seminole and Brevard counties). When Nelson ran the following year for a full six-year term, she donated 85 percent of her campaign’s $151,000 war chest.

The balance of Nelson’s contributions came that year from scores of Florida attorneys and law firms. Division of Elections records show that the judicial candidate’s financial supporters included Zimmerman lawyers Mark O’Mara and Don West, both of whom have felt the 59-year-old Nelson’s wrath over the past several weeks.

O’Mara gave $250 to Nelson’s campaign, while West--who has tangled frequently with the jurist as he has defended Zimmerman against charges that the neighborhood watch volunteer murdered Trayvon Martin--donated $100.

It is apparently too late, however, for either man to seek a refund from Nelson, who won the 2000 election with 72 percent of the vote.

Pictured above bookended by O'Mara and West, Nelson ran unopposed for reelection in 2006 and 2012. While registered to vote as a Democrat from her Sanford home--which is about three miles from where Martin was shot to death--Nelson has appeared on the ballot with no specific party affiliation.

Nelson sought no contributions in her last two races, though she did loan her 2012 campaign $50,000 last January. But after paying a $5687.12 qualifying fee and an $18 bank charge, Nelson repaid herself $44,294.88 on May 1. It is unclear why she loaned so much money to her campaign, only to have it returned three months later.

Nelson, who was admitted to the Florida bar in 1979, earns around $142,000 as a Circuit Court judge (likely far less than what she would make in private practice). In a financial disclosure form filed last year with Florida’s Department of State, Nelson--seen above in her official court portrait--reported that her net worth was nearly $574,000.

While Nelson is, for the moment, the country’s most famous judge, her celebrity will eventually wane and she will return to the kind of mundane docket that makes courthouses everywhere hum. Which likely will not upset a public servant who, when she first ran with O’Mara’s and West’s support, declared, “I think I have a lot to offer the community. I love the law. I am fair and just and an impartial person."

Sharpton: 'Slap in the Face to Those Who Believe in Justice in This Country'

"Well, I think that this is an atrocity," said Sharpton. "I think that it is probably one of the worst situations that I've seen. What this jury has done is establish a precedent that when you are young and fit a certain profile, you can be committing no crime, just bringing some Skittles and iced tea home to your brother, and be killed and someone can claim self-defense having been exposed with all kinds of lies, all kinds of inconsistencies. ... Even at trial when he is exposed over and over again as a liar, he is acquitted. This is a sad day in the country. I think that we clearly must move on to the next step in terms of the federal government and in terms of the civil courts. Clearly, we want people to be disciplined, strategic. But this is a slap in the face to those that believe in justice in this country."

This is the real face of racism in this country!!. One day here soon, this man will stand before the Lord, and he will say "I NEVER knew you." Mr. Sharpton, you need to repent of your ways, and actually turn to the Lord, confess your sins and ask forgiveness.

NAACP President 'outraged and heartbroken' over verdict, vows to pursue 'civil rights charges' in the case - @cnnbrk

Really? What civil rights charges? He defended himself and a jury confirmed that. Sorry race bater but there isn't any civil rights violations what so ever.

Defense attorney O'Mara: If George Zimmerman was black, 'he would've never been charged with the crime' - @JeffWeinerOS

and that is a 100% true statement. In fact if his last name was ANYTHING other than Zimmerman, we would never have heard of this case. The MEDIA hopped on this because they thought he was a WHITE JEW. The media wanted a race war, nothing else, and President OBAMA was culpable in this, along with NBC, CNN, FOX and MSNBC, and race baters Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.

Brendon Ayanbadejo - I guess murder is OK.

DeAndre Jordan - You get jail time for dog-fighting or shooting yourself but get off after killing a teenager....doesn't make sense to me.

Jared Sullinger - My heart and soul goes out to the Trayvons parents. I feel their pain. Unlike a lot of you ruthless ppl I have a heart and it feels for them

Jason Whitlock - I do not think it's fair to follow an unarmed child, lose a fight and shoot him. I'm sad Zimmerman not held responsible.

Stephen Curry - Wait he gets his gun back too?

Kendrick Perkins - America justice system is a joke.

SI Columnist Peter King - No culpability for Zimmerman? None? How can that be?

Desean Jackson - That's the face he make after killing a young black mans life !

Scott Fujita - Who really failed here? The prosecution? The jury? No. The laws in the state of FL failed. Be constructive in response. Focus on change.

Michael Strahan - RT @DondreWhitfield: Plaxico Burress got 2 yrs for shooting HIMSELF! say that again...HIMSELF!!

Isaiah Thomas - State of Florida is a joke when it comes to this stuff. Casey Anthony got off, now Zimmerman too! smh
