Church Displays Bleeding Trayvon Martin Nativity Scene

really ?  Roll Eyes

Outside the Claremont United Methodist Church is a nativity scene with a bleeding Trayvon Martin.  The California Church has turned their nativity scene "into a piece of art that comments on our times" for the last seven years.

John Zachary, the artist, told me the acquittal in July of George Zimmerman, who fatally shot the 17-year-old African-American in 2012, struck him as a worthy subject for Christmas comment.

For one thing, the backdrop to the Christmas story is the slaughter by King Herod of all infants in Bethlehem, a barbarous attempt to kill the Messiah.

Zachary described that when looking for pictures of Trayvon "one of the teenager lying dead on the pavement particularly tore at him. 'What if Jesus was lying there bleeding to death? I was kind of thinking of that,' Zachary said."

The title of the nativity "art" is called " 'A Child is Born, a Son is Given,' the wording outlined in red formed from a pool of blood at Trayvon’s feet."

The Church's pastor, Sharon Rhodes-Wickett, said the scene was hard to to look at.

"I found this year’s hard to look at. It’s hard to look at a young man who’s shot and bleeding to death. But even though I’m uncomfortable with it, that’s the point," Rhodes-Wickett said. "We have to take a look at the violence."

Response to the display has been "muted."

"I thought this would be more controversial, but I come to find out people don’t really like people gettin’ shot,” Zachary said with a chuckle. “They may not agree what to do about it, but they agree it’s a bad thing."

Rhodes-Wickett described her congregation and explained,  "Some people think it’s too edgy. I understand that point of view," she added. "I don’t know what the future will bring, but at this point it’s an annual thing."

That borders on blasphemous. Those people have a lot of nerve calling themselves Christians.

"Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee." Revelation 3:9 (KJB)

Obama Administration Mandates Racism in Schools
1/17/14

The Departments of Education and Justice have teamed up to make the lives of students in tough neighborhoods even tougher. Framed as a measure to combat discrimination against black and Hispanic children, the guidelines issued by the Obama administration about school discipline will actually encourage racial discrimination, undermine the learning environments of classrooms and contribute to an unjust race-consciousness in meting out discipline.

Claiming that African-American and Hispanic students are more harshly disciplined than whites for the same infractions, the Obama administration now advises that any disciplinary rule that results in a "disparate impact" on these groups will be challenged by the government.

"Disparate impact" analysis, as we've seen in employment law, does not require any intentional discrimination. It means, for example, that if an employer asks job seekers to take a test, and a larger percentage of one ethnic group fails the test than another, that the test is de facto discriminatory because it has a "disparate impact."

In the school context, the federal government is now arguing that if a disciplinary rule results in more black, Hispanic or special education kids being suspended or otherwise sanctioned, the rule must be suspect. The "Dear Colleague" letter explains that a disciplinary policy can be unlawful discrimination, even if the rule is "neutral on its face ... and is administered in an evenhanded manner," if it has a "disparate impact" on certain ethnic and other groups.

The inclusion of special education students is particularly perverse, as special ed students frequently get that designation because their emotional disturbances cause them to misbehave in various ways. So if a rule against, say, knocking over desks, is found to be violated more frequently by special ed than regular ed students, then the rule must be questioned? That's circular.

As the CATO Institute's Walter Olson notes, the federal guidelines pass over one example of disparate impact with no comment — namely the dramatically more males than females who face disciplinary action nationwide. If we are to judge a rule's lawfulness by the disparate impact on males, no rule would survive the inquiry. Is it possible that more boys misbehave in the classroom than girls? To ask this question is to venture into an area the federal government would have us avoid. Actual infractions by individuals are not the issue. We must have group justice, not individual justice.

We've actually been down this road many times before. Various state and federal agencies have raised concerns about the large numbers of black and Hispanic students facing disciplinary action. Such concerns helped to generate the rigid "zero tolerance" policies the administration now condemns. Zero tolerance is a brainless approach to a subject that requires considerable finesse and deliberation, but the disparate impact rule is even more pernicious.

Under the new dispensation, teachers, principals and other officials will have to pause before they discipline, say, the fourth black student in a month. "How will this look to the feds?" they'll ask themselves. Will the student's family be able to sue us? A variety of solutions to the federally created problem will present themselves. School officials can search out offenses by white and Asian students to make the numbers come out right. Asian students are disciplined at rates far below any other ethnic group. Is this due to pro-Asian bias in our schools, or is it because Asians commit many fewer infractions? Oops, there we go into territory forbidden by the federal guidelines.

Another solution will be to ignore misbehavior by blacks and Hispanics. For classes with large numbers of minority students, this guarantees that the learning environment for the kids who actually want to learn will be impaired as teachers — reluctant to remove troublesome students — expend precious time on kids who are rude, threatening, loud or otherwise disruptive. Every minute of the school day taken up by bad kids is taken away from good kids. It's a true zero-sum game.

So the Obama administration's pursuit of group justice actually leads to injustice to individual students. Whites and Asians will be disciplined more than they merit it by their conduct, and fewer students of all groups will get the kind of classroom atmosphere that is conducive to learning. Even the students who get a pass on their bad conduct are disserved, as they will not have learned that disrespectful language, tardiness and even violence are unacceptable in society.

Everyone loses. Obama strikes again.

Obama: Some People 'Really Dislike Me' Because I'm Black

Obama says some people "really dislike me" because they don't like the idea of a black man occupying the Oval Office. But, he admits, that's not the whole story. "Now, the flip side of it is there are some black folks and maybe some white folks who really like me and give me the benefit of the doubt precisely because I’m a black president," Obama told The New Yorker in an interview published Sunday.

They dislike him because he's black? Uh, hey Obama, your not black, you are mixed race, yet you insist on playing the black part, so how is that not racist on your part by claiming your black, when you are equally part white? So why choose to be black, when you can just as easily claim to be white?

It's rather obvious, it's a racist decision, that conveniently comes with certain benefits that "minorities" get, that whites don't get.

Super Bowl ad by Cheerios causing stir, comments pulled from YouTube
1/29/14

Cheerios is making waves with its first ever Super Bowl ad.

General Mills, which owns the cereal brand, got a lot of racial backlash for portraying an interracial family in the commercial at the bottom of this page.

“Cheerios is about families and love and connections — and breakfast,” said Camille Gibson, vice president of marketing for Big G cereals. “Our new Cheerios ad celebrates one of those special moments with a family that America fell in love with."

The Internet’s collective response prompted comments to be deactivated on the YouTube video.

'Racially insensitive’ lunch menu lands all-girls’ Catholic school in media spotlight

The “racially insensitive” lunch menu chosen to celebrate Black History Month that landed a private all-girls, Catholic high school in the national media spotlight has prompted upcoming diversity training for faculty and students.

The controversial choice of fried chicken, watermelon and cornbread for lunch at Carondelet High School in Northern California sparked immediate outrage and offense when announced on the school’s public address system Monday, the Contra Costa Times reported.

Principal Nancy Libby sent home two letters to parents last week apologizing for the “very unfortunate incident” and said a “communication breakdown” allowed the menu selection to be approved and announced before school officials could stop it.

“I’d like to apologize for this announcement and any hurt this caused students, parents or community members,” Tuesday’s letter read, according to the Times. “Please know that at no time at Carondelet do we wish to perpetrate racial stereotypes, and we indeed work diligently to do just the opposite.”

According to the article:

The Black Student Union, which is run through De La Salle High School — the neighboring boys’ Catholic school — and includes members from both campuses, wanted to do something to celebrate Black History Month, according to [communications director Christina] Ditzel.

Libby’s letter was not specific about how the menu decision was made but mentioned that “adults made mistakes causing this situation and that we were doing our best to learn from those mistakes and to bring that knowledge to the CHS experience.”

“Chicken, watermelon, collard greens — these stereotypes of black Southern culture come from the same place where the N-word comes from,” University of San Francisco professor James Taylor told NBC Bay Area. “This is not like this food represents some heroic moment in African American experience. What it represents is the degradation and the sterotyping of African Americans.”

According to the Times, the dishes were removed from the lunch menu and Libby has planned “a diversity assembly for faculty and students later this month.”

Read the statement published Thursday on the school’s Facebook page:

Dear Parents, Students and Carondelet Community,

Carondelet High School has garnered significant media coverage this week regarding a campus announcement about the School’s celebration of Black History Month. Unfortunately, that announcement described a menu that was racially insensitive, and students, parents, community members, and media outlets are concerned about this insensitivity. We are, too. We would like to share with you the statement we are posting on our website, Facebook and have given to the media today.

We are saddened and distressed by part of our daily announcement on Monday regarding Black History Month. That announcement described a menu that was racially insensitive. Our normal procedures would have caught this insensitivity before it was planned or broadcast to our student body, but those processes broke down and the menu was planned and publicized without administrative knowledge or permission.

We are addressing the communication breakdown and using this incident to raise awareness about cultural sensitivity and diversity, so such incidents never again occur in the Carondelet community. Cultural insensitivity of any kind is inconsistent with the mission of Carondelet High School, which is dedicated to educating, challenging, and enabling young women to integrate gospel values in their lives.

Oprah developing race riot miniseries...

http://insidetv.ew.com/2014/04/03/oprah-tulsa-race-riot/

Oprah Winfrey’s OWN cable network is developing a two-part miniseries chronicling one of the ugliest and least-known chapters in U.S. history.

In Tulsa, Academy Award-winning actress Octavia Spencer (The Help) plays a journalist who investigates the 1921 Oklahoma race riots, where an estimated 300 people were believed to have been murdered amid post-WWI racial tension surrounding segregation laws and the prosperous black community of Greenwood. According to a 2011 New York Times story on the subject, “The Tulsa race riot of 1921 was rarely mentioned in history books, classrooms or even in private…an episode so brutal that this city, in a bout of collective amnesia that extended more than a half-century, simply chose to forget it ever happened.”

The announcement came as part of OWN’s Thursday upfront, revealing the net’s next slate of programming — which also included the network’s first scripted movie, My Name is Love: The Darlene Love Story. The period biopic will star Toni Braxton.

My Name is Love has the Grammy-winning singer-actress playing Love, a singer who worked with Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra and Bruce Springsteen, among others. From the release: “Whether it was the wild parties Tom Jones used to throw, how Elvis came on to her backstage at his 1968 comeback special, or her love affair with Bill Medley of The Righteous Brothers, Love holds nothing back as she recalls the exciting events that make up her life…This is the dishy and dramatic story of a woman who had it all, lost it all, but never, ever refused to give up.” Love herself has an executive producer credit on the film, along with Winfrey and filmmaker Morgan Neville. The movie will debut in December.

Also in the works: Belief, a seven-part docu-series “exploring humankind’s ongoing search to connect with something greater than ourselves.” The show will explore various belief systems around the world.

Go figure! There's big money in racism, or rather in keeping the stories alive. But this is a reach, and no wonder her network is failing. She's making decisions based on personal beliefs and not business. All those female stories won't cut it. It's fine for a stupid talk show where they sit around and gossip, but not a network.

Alabama Democrat’s $100,000 Challenge to a ‘Whole Bunch of Whites’ Backfires – Big Time

Last month, Alabama State Rep. Alvin Holmes (D) made some controversial and racially-charged statements that could cost him $100,000 if he is willing to put his money where his mouth is.

RACIST

During a legislative session discussion on abortion rights, Holmes speculated that members of the GOP would be supportive of abortion if their daughters were impregnated by black men. The elected official, who has served in the state house since 1974, then offered to pay $100,000 cash to anyone who could show him a “bunch of whites” who have adopted black children in Alabama.

Those comments sparked the formation of a group of families in Alabama who are easily able to disprove Holmes’ theory.

Faces of Families in Alabama is the name of the Facebook group dedicated to showing Holmes and the world that families — adoptive families — are not as racially divided as he believes. In less than a month, Faces of Families has earned more than 7000 “likes” on the social media outlet and photos are coming into the group daily, showing off the mosaic of families made up of all colors.

On Wednesday, Faces of Families in Alabama gathered on the steps of the State House to demonstrate just how many multi-racial, adoptive families were in the state. By all accounts, the rally was peaceful and positive.

After the group showed up, Holmes doubled down on his comments, telling a local television station, ”The majority of the white people in the state of Alabama are against adopting black children.” The group has asked for an apology from Holmes and some are calling for his resignation.

What about the $100,000 in cash that he offered to anyone who could show him a “bunch of whites” who have adopted black babies in Alabama?

It would appear that Faces of Families in Alabama met his challenge. One adoptive mom, Beverly Owings, who has a 13-year-old bi-racial daughter told the local ABC affiliate, “he should have to put his money where his mouth is.”

We did speak with Beverly Owings on Thursday afternoon and she confirmed that Holmes had been invited to attend the event, but did not appear. Beverly and her husband Jeromy, are parents to four adopted children, one is bi-racial children.

“This was not about money, but about changing Holmes opinion,” she told TheBlaze, “and about getting out the word about how many children are available for adoption in Alabama.”

A few hours after the rally, Holmes reportedly called into a local radio show where the Ownings were slated to be guests for 30 minutes to talk about the event. That appearance reportedly turned into a one-hour show with more call-ins than the station had seen in quite some time. We have requested a copy of the audio and will attach it when it comes available.

TheBlaze has made several calls to the offices and home of the representative. The state legislature is currently not in session and no voice mail messaging options were available on his home or district phone numbers. When we get a response from Holmes we will update this story.

Will he have to pay up? Watch the local coverage from WAKA-TV: http://www.waka.com/news/montgomery-news/Adoptive-Families-Rally-at-State-House-Alvin-Holmes-Responds--254654901.html

This whole media driven race wars is just that...yet another distraction to keep everyone from the more important news items. And even THIS has somewhat continued to further distract from Ukraine/Russia.

When the Jessie Jacksons, Obamas, NAACPs, etc get involved over THIS, you KNOW there's an agenda they're pushing...

http://news.yahoo.com/obama-sharpton-sterling-nba-racist-comments-153901376.html
Obama, black leaders blast Sterling's alleged comments

Clippers owner will not receive lifetime achievement award, NAACP interim president says

4/27/14

Black leaders joined President Barack Obama on Sunday in speaking out against racist remarks reportedly made by Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, and urged the NBA to act quickly.

During a news conference in Malaysia, Obama called the comments — revealed in an audio recording obtained by TMZ — "incredibly offensive" and "racist."

"When ignorant folks want to advertise their ignorance, you don't really have to do anything, you just let them talk," Obama said when asked about Sterling's reported statements.

"The United States continues to wrestle with the legacy of race and slavery and segregation, that's still there, the vestiges of discrimination," the president continued. "We've made enormous strides, but you're going to continue to see this percolate up every so often. And I think that we just have to be clear and steady in denouncing it, teaching our children differently, but also remaining hopeful that part of why statements like this stand out so much is because there has been this shift in how we view ourselves."

The NBA, Obama added, has "an awful lot of African-American players, it's steeped in African-American culture. And I suspect that the NBA is going to be deeply concerned in resolving this."

NBA commissioner Adam Silver said the league was working to confirm authenticity of TMZ's tape, and promised a swift investigation.

**TMZ(that rag entertainment outlet) is the source of this alleged tape of Sterling's comments - for now, I am skeptical.

"All members of the NBA family should be afforded due process," Silver said Saturday. "Which is why I'm not yet prepared to issue any potential sanctions against Donald Sterling. We will move extraordinarily quickly. We plan to have this wrapped up in the next few days."

The Rev. Al Sharpton said unless Sterling proves it's not his voice on the tape, the NBA must move "today."

"I think that clearly the National Basketball Association must suspend him, or must say that, 'We're going to remove any kind of imprimatur we have on this team if he's the owner,'" Sharpton said on NBC's "Meet The Press." "You cannot have someone own an NBA team in this country and have these kind of attitudes.

"This is about the NBA saying that it's acceptable or excusable to behave like this," Sharpton continued. "And we've seen where sports can unite a country.  We just hung a plaque to Nelson Mandela at Yankee Stadium. He used rugby to bring South Africa together after apartheid. This is the exact opposite of that."

The Clippers owner, Sharpton said, "needs to state unequivocally, 'That's not me on the tape.' If it is him on the tape, [the NBA needs] to move today, or we're going after advertisers."

Sharpton's National Action Network is planning a protest outside Staples Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday, when the Clippers face the Golden State Warriors in Game 5 of their opening-round playoff series.

Sterling, the longest tenured NBA owner, had been set to receive a lifetime achievement award from the NAACP's Los Angeles chapter on May 15 "for his generosity, inspiration and leadership." But NAACP interim president Lorraine Miller said Sunday that's not happening.

"He is not receiving a lifetime achievement award," Miller told "Meet The Press."

In the audio tape published by TMZ, a male voice is heard asking a female associate — identified by the site as Sterling's girlfiend, V. Stiviano — “Why are you taking pictures with minorities? Why?” (Stiviano recently posted a photo of herself with Los Angeles Lakers Hall of Fame guard Magic Johnson to her Instagram account. The photo was later deleted.) The male then advises her not to bring Johnson to Clippers games.

"I will never again set foot in Staples Center when the Clippers are playing," Johnson told the Los Angeles Times. "I know where I'm not wanted.

"Something has to be done," Johnson added, "and if that means him losing the team, then that has to happen. The league has to come down hard and make a statement."

In a statement, Clippers President Andy Roeser said the organization does not know if the tape "is legitimate or it has been altered," and that Sterling "is emphatic that what is reflected on that recording is not consistent with, nor does it reflect his views, beliefs or feelings. It is the antithesis of who he is, what he believes and how he has lived his life.”

In 2009, Sterling agreed to pay $2.73 million to settle a federal discrimination lawsuit alleging he refused to rent apartments to Hispanics and blacks and to families with children in Los Angeles' Koreatown.

In a another discrimination lawsuit filed by former Clippers general manager Elgin Baylor, Sterling was accused of racism and employing "a Southern plantation-type" ownership structure. That suit was dismissed in 2009.

"Donald Sterling's racial history is on the record," Bryant Gumbel, host of HBO's "Real Sports," said on "Meet The Press." "It has cost him money.  It cost him his reputation long before this. And so I'm kind of amazed that anyone is surprised at this."

Matthew 6:1  Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
Mat 6:2  Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Mat 6:3  But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
Mat 6:4  That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

Clippers wear warm-up shirts inside-out to protest alleged comments by team's owner
4/27/14

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Los Angeles Clippers wore their shooting shirts and practice jerseys inside-out before their playoff game against the Golden State Warriors Sunday afternoon in a protest against the alleged racial comments attributed to Clippers owner Donald Sterling.

The Clippers discussed the possibility of boycotting Game 4 of their first-round playoff series with the Warriors in a team meeting Saturday after the alleged comments were made public, but opted to play. The players haven't commented much on the controversy, allowing coach Doc Rivers to speak for the team.

As the Clippers players took the court before Sunday's game, they all tossed their warm-up jackets with the Clippers name on the front to midcourt and then warmed up with their shooting shirts inside out.

The players also wore black wristbands on their left arms and black socks as part of the protest. Sterling did not attend the game, but his wife Shelly sat across from the bench wearing black.

The Clippers players are contemplating making a bigger statement during Game 5 of the series against the Warriors on Tuesday in Los Angeles, a source told Yahoo Sports. The source said the players needed more time to decide what they wanted to do and would prefer a stronger statement on their home floor at Staples Center.

Rivers admitted before the game he was a little worried about how his players were doing in the aftermath of the report.

"You know, from a coaching standpoint, you're concerned," Rivers said. "They've been pulled in a million directions over the last 24 hours, and so that's a fact."

Rivers said the Clippers had tried to prepare for the game as normal as possible, but admitted the controversy had become a distraction.

"The mental preparation, on the other hand, I just – honestly, I don't know," Rivers said. "Because, listen, as much as this is basketball, this is life. And our guys, they have family. They have friends. And they have cell phones. And I can't imagine how much they've been pulled on and talked to and what you should do and what you shouldn't do and what you should say. And that's abnormal to a normal playoff game."

NBA commissioner Adam Silver was at Sunday's game and expected to meet with Sacramento mayor and ex-NBA player Kevin Johnson, who is representing the National Basketball Player's Association.

Silver said Saturday the NBA hoped to complete its investigation of the alleged comments within a few days. He would not specify any possible sanctions or punishment.

Video: Black Teens Assault White Student on School Bus

This week near Dover, Delaware, a viral video appears to show another instance of black-on-white violence among high school students.

The shaky cell phone video shows a group of black teenage boys punching, knocking down, and kicking a white teenage boy, leaving him dazed and confused on the school bus floor.

The victim of the attack had been riding home from Parkway Academy School near Dover when the assault reportedly began. The video shows him sitting alone, facing front, when the attack begins from the rear – and continues from the side and the front of the school bus. "I didn't do nothing," he protests.

The student's uncle found out about the incident and spread the word on Facebook.

“This is a video of my nephew Alec being beaten by a group of teens on his bus ride home from school yesterday,” wrote Jonathan Guessford. “He was able to get off the bus at the next stop, 14 miles from his home. He went to the Magnolia Fire Hall and called the police.

“The bus driver failed to intervene AT ALL," Guessford continued. "She didn't stop the bus while the beating occurred. She didn't call the police and file a report. She didn't inform the administration that the beating occurred. Apparently, the bus driver called the school and stated that Alec left the bus early for no reason, according to the administrator that called my brother yesterday.”

The attack is part of a pattern of racial violence I have documented in White Girl Bleed a Lot: The Return of Racial Violence to America and How the Media Ignore It.

Bet there is NO media outcry, NO Obama saying thats my kid, no Eric Holder investigation.

Millennials see themselves as ‘post-racial.’ What does that mean?

An MTV survey finds that a majority of Millennials believe racism is fading, and that having a black president signals equal opportunity has arrived. MTV is ready to give them some perspective.

4/30/14
http://news.yahoo.com/millennials-see-themselves-post-racial-does-mean-215625909.html

A majority of young people believe racism is more a problem for previous generations than it is for their own. And most young people – 73 percent of whites, 66 percent of nonwhites – say they don’t see racial minorities any differently than they see white people, according to a survey conducted for the youth-oriented cable network MTV.

That suggests a generation that sees itself as “post-racial,” MTV reports.

Perhaps most strikingly, a majority of those surveyed, who range in age from 14 to 24, agree that “having a black president demonstrates that racial minorities have the same opportunities as white people.” Among young white people, the figure was 64 percent, and among young people of color, it was 58 percent.

“Millennials,” as today’s teens and young adults are known, are under the microscope on a range of matters, from their political views and financial prospects to media consumption habits. But on equality issues – not just on race, but also gender and sexual orientation – young people present a hopeful picture, though perhaps in need of context.

Millennials are the most diverse generation in history, and it’s inspiring to see how equality and fairness serve as their bedrock values,” says Stephen Friedman, president of MTV, in a statement. “However, that very faith in equality can also cloud their perception of historical and institutional inequities.”

One example of this “cloudy perception” is the belief by half of white Millennials that discrimination against whites has become as big a problem as discrimination against people of color, the network notes.

MTV conducted the survey in preparation for a multiyear campaign called “Look Different,” which aims to prepare young people to counter what the network calls “the hidden racial, gender, and anti-LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) biases all around us.” The “Look Different” campaign includes on-air content, including a documentary-style program called “Untitled Whiteness Project,” and social-media outreach.

The survey results on race are especially timely, in light of recent events. Last week, a Nevada rancher famous for his refusal to pay federal grazing fees alienated many supporters by suggesting blacks were better off as slaves. On Tuesday, the owner of the L.A. Clippers basketball team, Donald Sterling, was banned for life from the NBA and fined $2.5 million after the league determined it was his voice on a recording in which ugly racial comments were made.

In the Supreme Court last week, emotions were high when a majority of justices upheld a ban on affirmative action in Michigan public universities. An impassioned Justice Sonia Sotomayor read portions of her 58-page dissent from the bench, decrying “this refusal to accept the stark reality that race matters.” She implicitly criticized Chief Justice John Roberts, who in 2007 said: "The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race."

MTV’s research included two surveys, one with 2,000 young people taken between Feb. 24 and March 2, and another taken April 4-9 with 1,000 young people. The surveys were conducted by David Binder Research of San Francisco.

The surveys found that while Millennials have a “universal belief in equality,” they experience the real world differently, depending on race.

On the statement, “My race is well-represented in the media,” 64 percent of white respondents agreed, versus only 33 percent of people of color. Some 63 percent of white Millennials agreed that “racial minorities use racism as an excuse more than they should,” while 52 percent of nonwhite Millennials agreed
.

The survey did not ask specifically about affirmative action, but alluded to it in some questions.

Majorities of white and nonwhite respondents agreed that “it’s never fair to give preferential treatment to one race over another, regardless of historical inequalities.” Among white Millennials, 75 percent agreed, as did 65 percent of nonwhites.

Another statement presented the “racial preference” concept differently: “Because of historical inequalities, it is sometimes more fair to give preferential treatment to one race over another.” Among whites, 22 percent agreed; 30 percent of people of color agreed.

On the question of how Millennials view their generation versus past generations on racial matters, there was a slight difference of opinion between whites and nonwhites. Among white Millennials, 58 percent agreed that “racism is more of a problem for other generations than it is for my generation,” while 51 percent of nonwhites agreed with that statement.

On the leadership question, 61 percent of white Millennials said that as their generation moves into leadership roles, racism will become “less and less of an issue,” while 54 percent of nonwhite Millennials held that view.

Mark Cuban Says We're All Bigoted, Calls Donald Sterling Ruling 'A Slippery Slope' In New Interview

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban talked about the NBA's decision to ban Donald Sterling and force him to sell the Clippers in a new interview at Inc.'s GrowCo conference in Nashville.

While he acknowledged that NBA commissioner Adam Silver "had to do it," he reiterated his statement that forcing Sterling to sell the team for making racist comments is "a slippery slope."

In a supplemental interview on Inc.com, he said that everyone, including himself, holds prejudices:

"We're all prejudiced in one way or the other. If I see a black kid in a hoodie and it's late at night, I'm walking to the other side of the street. And on that side of the street there's a guy who has tattoos all over his face — white guy, bald head, tattoos everywhere — I'm walking back to the other side of the street ... I know that I'm not perfect. I know I live in a glass house and it's not appropriate for me to throw stones."

Instead of kicking people to the curb, Cuban says those with racist or bigoted views should be rehabilitated with things like sensitivity training:

"It's part of my responsibility as an entrepreneur to try to solve it, not just to kick the problem down the road. It does my company no good, it does my customers no good, it does society no good if my response to somebody and their racism or bigotry is to say, 'It's not right for you to be here, go take your attitude somewhere else.'"

Cuban wasn't talking strictly in the context of the Sterling issue here, but his comments certainly apply to what's going on with the disgraced Clippers owner.

The "black kid in a hoodie" comment is the most interesting part of this because it's a crystal clear example of how racism works in 2014. Sterling was so universally derided because the nature and tone of his racist comments was so overt. We simply don't see powerful, public figures be that racist, which made him an easy target.

The assumption behind the "crossing the street when you see a black kid in a hoodie" statement — that young, black men are inherently dangerous — is equally as offensive. But it's also invisible. The impulse to stay clear of young, black men walking down the street comes from the same racist place where Sterling's statements came from, but it's easy to ignore as a society because it only expresses itself within our heads.

Here's the full transcript of Cuban's online Inc. interview:

"In this day and age, this country has really come a long way in putting any type of bigotry behind us regardless of who it's towards, whether it's the LGBT community, xenophobia, the fear of people from other countries. We've come a long way, and with that progress comes a price. We're a lot more vigilant and a lot less tolerant of different views. And it's not necessarily easy for everyone to adopt or adapt or evolve.

"We're all prejudiced in one way or the other. If I see a black kid in a hoodie and it's late at night, I'm walking to the other side of the street. And on that side of the street there's a guy who has tattoos all over his face — white guy, bald head, tattoos everywhere — I'm walking back to the other side of the street. And the list goes on of stereotypes that we all live up to and are fearful of.

"And so in my businesses, I try not to be hypocritical. I know that I'm not perfect. I know I live in a glass house and it's not appropriate for me to throw stones. So if I run into bigotry in organizations I control, I try to find solutions. I'll work with people. I'll send them to training, I'll send them to sensitivity training. I'll try to give them a chance to improve themselves because I think helping people improve their lives, helping people engage with people they don't understand, and helping people realize that while we all have our prejudices and our bigotries we have to learn that it's an issue that we have to control. It's part of my responsibility as an entrepreneur to try to solve it, not just to kick the problem down the road. It does my company no good, it does my customers no good, it does society no good if my response to somebody and their racism or bigotry is to say, 'It's not right for you to be here, go take your attitude somewhere else.'"

VIDEO: Al Sharpton Defends Racist Rant: ‘It Was Only One Jew’

Al Sharpton’s history of hate is so voluminous and well documented, where does one even begin?

The time he disparaged Jews as “diamond merchants” during the unrest of the infamous Crown Heights riots?

Or when Sharpton tried goading NYC’s Jewish community into an all-out fistfight, saying “If the Jews want to get it on, tell them to pin their yarmulkes back and come over to my house”?

How about referring to the Jewish owner of Freddy’s Fashion Mart, Fred Harari, as a “white interloper” for seeking to expand his business in Harlem? (You may have heard of Freddy’s. It was also known as the Harlem Massacre. One of Sharpton’s followers also disapproved of the “white interloper” and burned the store to the ground, murdering eight people including himself.)

But those tirades were just Sharpton’s anti-semitic ones. He’s also sermonized on “Greek homos” and “crackas” as well as bombarded former NYC Mayor David Dinkins with a barrage of N-bombs.

So if you’re Sharpton and you’re confronted about some of your “greatest hits,” what do you do?

Scoff at the questioning and argue that one of your notorious racial slurs wasn’t, in fact, a slur because it was meant for just one Jewish individual.

No, seriously, that was Sharpton’s defense.

On the night of the glitzy Washington Correspondents Dinner, Daily Surge Publisher Jason Mattera asked the faux Civil Rights leader if he should be banned from television, “in the spirit of Donald Sterling,” for all the “racist stuff” he’s said over the years. Sharpton, recall, threatened boycotts and protests if the National Basketball Association failed to ban Sterling from the league.

If you can believe it, Sharpton challenged Mattera to produce evidence of racism.

And when that evidence was produced, easily (see above) – in this case, him calling Fred Harari a “white interloper” and David Dinkins a n***** – Sharpton ignored the shot at Dinkins, but ridiculously claimed that “whiter interloper” didn’t rise to the level of racism because it was directed at only one Jew, not a neighborhood of them.

“When did I call Jews ‘white interlopers’?” Sharpton demanded.

Mattera reminded Sharpton of Freddy’s Fashion Mart and followed-up with, “Doesn’t it take some serious balls on your end to accuse somebody of racism?”

Sharpton blustered back, “You went from one guy who paid people off the books and was wrong,”  before the “Reverend ” rambled on about ‘lies’ and ‘distortions’ as though he’s been misinterpreted all these years.

Of course, splitting hairs over anti-semitic comments is probably not the best position to find oneself in.

“One guy!”

In any event, who knows how many Jews Al Sharpton had in mind.  When an audiotape surfaced of him disparaging Mr. Harari, his initial reaction was, “What’s wrong with denouncing white interlopers?”  Sharpton eventually gave one of those half-hearted apologies (a bloodbath ensued at Freddy’s, after all) and then carried on with his profession of stoking racial strife.

As idiotic as Donald Sterling’s comments were, they were still said in private. Sharpton’s tirades, on the other hand, were delivered for public consumption.  And not only has Sharpton been rewarded with his own primetime television show on MSNBC, he’s a frequent guest at the White House and Obama officials headline his National Action Network conference.

Recently, the Los Angeles chapter of the NAACP honored Sharpton with their “Person of the Year” award, an accolade that was originally slated to be given to – wait for it – Donald Sterling.

Watch the exclusive video above.

US Patent Office Rules Redskins Name Is Offensive, Cancels Trademarks

The US Patents and Trademarks Office cancelled the federal trademarks for the Washington Redskins after ruling that the name was "disparaging to Native Americans."

Five Native Americans petitioned the office to cancel six trademarks filed between 1967 and 1990. Under federal law, trademarks cannot be "may disparage persons or bring them into contempt or disrepute" cannot be registered.

The office said in a ruling:

"We decide, based on the evidence properly before us, that these registrations must be cancelled because they were disparaging to Native Americans at the respective times they were registered, in violation of Section 2(a)  of the Trademark Act of 1946, 15 U.S.C. § 1052(a)."

Even if the ruling is upheld, the team can still call itself the Redskins. But without the trademarks, anyone can use the Redskins name to sell merchandise. It essentially puts financial pressure on owner Dan Snyder to change the name.

The entire ruling can be read here. It includes a lengthy discussion, with expert opinions from lexicographers, about the historical origins of the words and its use as an offensive term over the past century.

The key part of the ruling says that 30% of Native Americans find the name disparaging. The committee describes this as a "substantial composite" of Native Americans, which establishes that the name is offensive:

"The record establishes that, at a minimum, approximately thirty percent of Native Americans found the term REDSKINS used in connection with respondent’s services to be disparaging at all times including 1967, 1972, 1974, 1978 and 1990. Section 2(a) prohibits registration of matter that disparages a substantial composite, which need not be a majority, of the referenced group. Thirty percent is without doubt a substantial composite. To determine otherwise means it is acceptable to subject to disparagement 1 out of every 3 individuals, or as in this case approximately 626,095 out of 1,878,285 in 1990. >There is nothing in the Trademark Act, which expressly prohibits registration of disparaging terms, or in its legislative history, to permit that level of disparagement of a group and, therefore, we find this showing of thirty percent to be more than substantial.

"Respondent has introduced evidence that some in the Native American community do not find the term “Redskin” disparaging when it is used in connection with professional football. While this may reveal differing opinions within the community, it does not negate the opinions of those who find it disparaging. The ultimate decision is based on whether the evidence shows that a substantial composite of the Native American population found the term “Redskins” to be disparaging when the respective registrations issued. Therefore, once a substantial composite has been found, the mere existence of differing opinions cannot change the conclusion.

"In view of the above, petitioners have shown by a preponderance of the evidence that a substantial composite of Native Americans found the term REDSKINS to be disparaging in connection with respondent’s services during the relevant time frame of 1967-1990. Accordingly, the six registrations must be cancelled as required under Sections 2(a) and 14(3) of the Trademark Act. 216."

A similar ruling was made in 1992, according to the office, but the decision was later reversed.

The cancelled six trademarks all involve the "REDSKINS" name: marks on "THE REDSKINS," "WASHINGTON REDSKINS," "REDSKINS," AND "REDSKINETTES" were all cancelled. Two old logos, both with "Redskins" in them, were also cancelled:

Appeals court: Texas can use race in admissions
7/15/14

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A federal appeals court panel ruled Tuesday that the University of Texas can continue using race as a factor in undergraduate admissions as a way of promoting diversity on campus, the latest in an ongoing case that made it to the U.S. Supreme Court last year only to be sent back to lower courts for further review.

In a 2-1 ruling, judges from the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals found that barring the university from using race would ultimately lead to a less diverse student body in defiance of previous legal precedent that promoting diversity was an important part of education.

"We are persuaded that to deny UT Austin its limited use of race in its search for holistic diversity would hobble the richness of the educational experience," the opinion stated.

The case began in 2008 when Abigail Fisher, who is white, was denied admission to the University of Texas's flagship Austin campus because she did not graduate in the top 10 percent of her high school class — the criterion for 75 percent of the school's admissions. The university also passed her over for a position among the remaining 25 percent, which is reserved for special scholarships and people who meet a formula for personal achievement that includes race as a factor.

The case went to the U.S. Supreme Court in June 2013. But rather than issue a landmark decision on affirmative action, it voted 7-1 to tell a lower appeals court to take another look at Fisher's lawsuit. That meant the university's admissions policies remained unchanged.

In November, the New Orleans-based 5th Circuit held a rare hearing in Austin where it again listened to arguments on both sides of the case.

University of Texas President Bill Powers called it "a great day for higher education nationwide."

"As a teacher and as president of this university I know the value of diversity of all kinds," Powers said at a news conference. "And our state and our nation won't advance unless we're training leaders in all parts of our society."

Between 2000 and 2010, Texas' population increased by more than 4 million with minorities, especially Hispanics, accounting for nearly nine out every 10 new residents, according to census figures.

The University of Texas has become more-diverse — but much more slowly. It's percentage of white students declined from 53.5 percent in 2009 to 47.7 percent last fall. The percentage of Hispanic students increased from 18.5 percent to 21.7 percent over the same period, but lags the 38.4 percent of the Texas population which is Hispanic. Black student enrollment has declined slightly since 2009 and was 4.3 percent last year, compared with 12.4 percent of the Texas population who are black.

Edward Blum, one of the attorneys representing Fisher, called the ruling "disappointing but not unexpected." He said the legal team could next appeal to the full 5th U.S. Circuit, or directly back to the U.S. Supreme Court.

"I think we need a little more time to more carefully study the opinion and weight the pluses and minuses of both avenues," Blum said by phone.

Fisher said in a statement that she too was disappointed "that the judges hearing my case are not following the Supreme Court's ruling last summer."

"I remain committed to continuing this lawsuit even if it means we appeal to the Supreme Court once again," she added.

The NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund was among the groups that helped argue in favor of the University of Texas and its admissions policies. It called the ruling a victory but conceded that the disputes over affirmative action are not over.

"It's going to be a conversation that we need to continue and a difficult one," said Janai Nelson, associate director counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund. "But what this decision emphasizes is that there are ways in which we can use race in a positive and progressive manner."

You have the Government fomenting this. They failed to get the war launched with Trayvon, so they are trying here also. Seriously, cant you see what is happening? The Gov is behind all of this.

Stirring The Pot: DOJ Sends ‘Marshals’ To ‘Coach’ The Protesters In Ferguson

Is the Obama administration looking to stir up more trouble in Ferguson?

Stir-The-Pot-Public-Domain-300x300“Protest marshals” from the same Department of Justice division that organized protests against George Zimmerman in the aftermath of the shooting of Trayvon Martin have been deployed to the troubled city.

It is being reported that these DOJ agents will be “conducting training” for Ferguson protesters that will focus on “best practices for participating in protests”.  Local officials in Missouri hope that this will help defuse the situation, but if history is any guide it may end up doing just the opposite.

According to the head of Judicial Watch, the Community Relations Service of the Department of Justice “has a record of racially inflammatory rhetoric that is extreme in ideology and cynical in its politics”.  Could these Ferguson protests ultimately be used to take us to the next level in the inflammation of racial tensions in America?

What we have seen play out in Ferguson over the past few days demonstrates so much of what is wrong in this country.

The initial rioting and looting in the city was a prime example of the extreme social decay that is eating away at the foundations of our nation.  And it showed how rapidly the streets of our major cities could potentially descend into chaos.

And then the absolutely brutal response by the police was a perfect example of how our society is rapidly being transformed into a heavily militarized police state.

Now that the Obama administration is getting involved, who knows what is going to happen next.  According to the Daily Caller, two “protest marshals” have already been deployed to Ferguson so far…

Two Department of Justice “protest marshals” are in Ferguson, Mo., to help train people taking part in demonstrations over the fatal police shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown.

That’s according to Ferguson mayor James Knowles, who spoke with The Daily Caller Wednesday evening.

We are being told that they will be “conducting training for the groups on best practices for participating in protests”.

That sounds good, but as Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch has pointed out, this particular Department of Justice division has a troubled history…

Responding to news that the Justice Department has dispatched its Community Relations Service to the scene of racially charged unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, the head of the Washington watchdog group Judicial Watch says it’s time for a civil rights investigation of Attorney General Eric Holder’s agency.

“Eric Holder’s Justice Department is unfortunately not to be trusted on racial matters,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton in an interview with WND.

Under Holder’s leadership, he said, the department “has a record of racially inflammatory rhetoric that is extreme in ideology and cynical in its politics.”

“The idea that this Justice Department could be trusted to mediate is highly suspect,” he said.

So precisely what kind of “coaching” and “training” will these protesters be receiving?

In a previous article, I discussed how Judicial Watch has documented the fact that the Community Relations Service helped “organize and manage rallies and protests against George Zimmerman” back in 2012.  This assistance also included spending quite a bit of money, arranging meetings between the NAACP and local leaders, and even providing police escorts for protesters.

Let us certainly hope that the DOJ does not choose to inflame the situation, because Ferguson is already essentially a war zone at this point.

On Wednesday night, police used smoke bombs, tear gas, flash bang grenades, rubber bullets and LRAD sound cannons against protesters.  You can see footage of some of the police brutality in the video posted below…

And it isn’t just “young punks” that are being brutalized.  In an Instagram photo that you can view right here, you can see the gruesome wound that was created when a white female pastor was shot while she was peacefully praying.

There is no excuse for that.  The whole world is watching what is going on, and they are absolutely disgusted with us.

Thankfully, the Governor of Missouri is taking charge of the situation.  Governor Nixon has put the Missouri State Highway Patrol in charge, and he is promising a change in “tone”.  The following comes from a CNN report…

Gov. Jay Nixon said he decided to put the Missouri State Highway Patrol in charge of security because “at this particular point, the attitudes weren’t improving, and the blocks towards expression appeared to be a flashpoint.”

Lately, the community of Ferguson, which has been the scene of clashes in the wake of a weekend police shooting that left teenager Michael Brown dead, has looked “more like a war zone, and it’s not acceptable,” Nixon said.

Now, authorities — who’ve faced accusations that they’ve used excessive force in response to demonstrations — will be taking a different tack in an effort to calm tensions, officials said Thursday.

“We’re all about making sure that we allow peaceful and appropriate protests, that we use force only when necessary, that we step back a little bit and let some of the energy be felt in this region, appropriately,” Nixon said.

That sounds good, but what is going to happen if protesters start foolishly throwing Molotov cocktails once again?

Will the police be able to show restraint at that point?

And how will the Department of Justice “protest marshals” change the equation?

Will they calm things down, or will they end up inflaming the situation?

Gov declares emergency, imposes curfew in Ferguson
8/16/14

FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency Saturday and imposed a curfew in a St. Louis suburb where police and protesters have clashed after a black teenager was shot to death by a white police officer a week ago.

Nixon said that though many protesters were making themselves heard peacefully, the state would not allow looters to endanger the community where 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot in a street. The curfew will run from midnight to 5 a.m. Sunday.

"I am committed to making sure the forces of peace and justice prevail," Nixon said at a chaotic press conference at a church that was interrupted repeatedly by people objecting to the curfew and demanding that the officer who shot Brown be charged with murder.

"We must first have and maintain peace. This is a test. The eyes of the world are watching," Nixon said. "We cannot allow the ill will of the few to undermine the good will of the many."

Nixon's curfew announcement came after tensions again flared in Ferguson late Friday night. Local police had earlier in the day identified the officer who shot Brown as Darren Wilson and released documents and video footage alleging that Brown had robbed a convenience store just before he was shot. Police said Wilson was unaware Brown was a suspect when he initially encountered him walking in the street with a friend.

Nixon said the U.S. Department of Justice is beefing up its civil rights investigation of the shooting.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Capt. Ron Johnson, who is in charge of security in Ferguson, said 40 FBI agents were going door-to-door in the neighborhood starting Saturday, talking to people who might have seen or have information about the shooting.

Johnson assured those at the news conference that police would not enforce the curfew with armored trucks and tear gas but would communicate with protesters and give them ample opportunity to leave. Nixon and Johnson were flanked by numerous local elected officials, including U.S. Rep. William Lacy Clay Jr., who urged Johnson to be flexible with the midnight curfew.

FBI agents leave an apartment building adjacent to a makeshift memorial for Michael Brown on Aug. 16, 2014, located at the site where Brown was shot by police a week ago in Ferguson, Mo.

Among the many people shouting questions was Malik Shabazz, the president of Black Lawyers for Justice, who said that members of his group and the New Black Panther Party and the Nation of Islam had been helping to maintain order and deter protesters from violence.

"It seems to be a tight curfew line that could be a prescription for confrontation," said Shabazz, who asked unsuccessfully that the curfew's start be delayed by an hour.

Brown's death had already ignited several days of clashes with furious protesters. Tensions eased Thursday after Nixon turned oversight of the protests over to the Missouri Highway Patrol. Gone were the police in riot gear and armored vehicles, replaced by the new patrol commander who personally walked through the streets with demonstrators. But Friday night marked a resurgence of unrest.

Local officers faced strong criticism earlier in the week for their use of tear gas and rubber bullets against protesters. Johnson said one tear gas canister was deployed Friday night after the group of rioters became unruly and several officers got trapped and injured.

Wilson, the officer who shot Brown, is a six-year police veteran who had no previous complaints against him, the local police chief has said.

The Ferguson Police Department has refused to say anything about Wilson's whereabouts, and Associated Press reporters were unable to contact him at any addresses or phone numbers listed under that name in the St. Louis area.

Wilson has been on paid administrative leave since the shooting. St. Louis County prosecutor Bob McCulloch said it could be weeks before the investigation wraps up.

St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley asked Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster on Friday to take over the case, saying he did not believe McCulloch could be objective. Koster said Missouri law does not allow it unless McCulloch opts out, and McCulloch spokesman Ed Magee said the prosecutor has no plans to surrender the case.

Witness Conversation Unknowingly Captured at Scene 'a Game-Changer'...

A previously unnoticed detail in a background conversion of a video taken minutes after the Ferguson shooting could change the course of the investigation into Mike Brown’s death.

The original video poster appears sympathetic to the narrative that Mike Brown was shot unarmed with his hands in the air. But he unknowingly picks up conversation between a man who saw the altercation and another neighbor.

An approximate transcription of the background conversation, as related by the “Conservative Treehouse” blog, who originally discovered the conversation:
@6:28/6:29 of video
#1 How’d he get from there to there?
#2 Because he ran, the police was still in the truck – cause he was like over the truck
{crosstalk}
#2 But him and the police was both in the truck, then he ran – the police got out and ran after him
{crosstalk}
#2 Then the next thing I know he doubled back toward him cus - the police had his gun drawn already on him –

[there is dispute here whether he says "doubled back" or "coming back."]
#1. Oh, the police got his gun
#2 The police kept dumpin on him, and I’m thinking the police kept missing – he like – be like – but he kept coming toward him
{crosstalk}
#2 Police fired shots – the next thing I know – the police was missing
#1 The Police?
#2 The Police shot him
#1 Police?
#2 The next thing I know … I’m thinking … the dude started running … (garbled something about “he took it from him”)

This is terribly important because if Mike Brown had been shot, and he advanced towards the cop instead of surrendering, it would substantiate the narrative that the policeman shot in self-defense due to the fact that he was being threatened with severe bodily harm. This corroborates an account of the event given by a friend of Officer Darren Wilson:

Well, then Michael takes off and gets to be about 35 feet away. And, Darren’s first protocol is to pursue. So, he stands up and yells, “Freeze!” Michael and his friend turn around. And Michael taunts him… And then all the sudden he just started bumrushing him. He just started coming at him full speed. And, so he just started shooting. And, he just kept coming. And, so he really thinks he was on something.”

It’s far too unlikely that these two accounts are similar accidentally, having been from such disparate sources. The apparent witness in the background conversation is speaking with detail about the tragic shooting, and in a manner that runs contrary to the widespread version. Those who watch the video need to judge for themselves if the witness sounds reliable (but he would seemingly have nothing to gain by telling such a story.)

A third piece of the puzzle would be the toxicology report. If there happens to be anything found that might explain how Mike Brown might have been shot and kept advancing toward the officer, then the defense becomes even more believable. Unless someone is emotionally invested in an alternative narrative to the extent that one might ignore plain facts.

Sharpton: 'There's A Difference Between Robbing And Shoplifting'
"How can the young folk of the city believe in a system that would try to spit on the name and character of a young man who hasn't even be buried?"

In an unabashedly self-referential speech to supporters in Ferguson, MO Sunday, activist and MSNBC news host Al Sharpton pulled out his best James Brown and shouted for justice in the name of Michael Brown.

To the screams of approval of hundreds at a "Unity Rally" at the Greater Grace Church in Ferguson, Sharpton discussed the video released by police showing an alleged "strong arm robbery" conducted by Michael Brown moments before his confrontation with Officer Darren Wilson that led to his death. "There's a difference between robbing and shoplifting," Sharpton proclaimed to a standing ovation of screams and cheers by the capacity crowd.

"I'm no drive-by activist. We'll be here until justice is achieved," Sharpton promised.

"I know they're gonna smear Michael, they may even try to smear the parents," Sharpton said, before turning the attention to himself and the explosive video of the robbery.

"They're gonna call me names. But, I come from Brooklyn, a section called 'do or die, Bed Stuy.' I've been in the movement since I was a teenager... In all of my life I've never seen anything more despicable than while this mother and this father and the families haven't even had the time to bury their son, the police chief would release a tape trying to disparage his name. While his momma's still weeping, while the family hasn't even laid him to rest. How can the young folk of the city believe in a system that would try to spit on the name and character of a young man who hasn't even be buried?"

"The tape I saw," Sharpton continued. "A young man who may have been shoplifting. There's a difference between robbing and shoplifting.
