As we all know, the last 2 Popes endorsed evolution...

Scientist: Evolution debate will soon be history

NEW YORK (AP) — Richard Leakey predicts skepticism over evolution will soon be history.

Not that the avowed atheist has any doubts himself.

Sometime in the next 15 to 30 years, the Kenyan-born paleoanthropologist expects scientific discoveries will have accelerated to the point that "even the skeptics can accept it."

"If you get to the stage where you can persuade people on the evidence, that it's solid, that we are all African, that color is superficial, that stages of development of culture are all interactive," Leakey says, "then I think we have a chance of a world that will respond better to global challenges."

Leakey, a professor at Stony Brook University on Long Island, recently spent several weeks in New York promoting the Turkana Basin Institute in Kenya. The institute, where Leakey spends most of his time, welcomes researchers and scientists from around the world dedicated to unearthing the origins of mankind in an area rich with fossils.

His friend, Paul Simon, performed at a May 2 fundraiser for the institute in Manhattan that collected more than $2 million. A National Geographic documentary on his work at Turkana aired this month on public television.

Now 67, Leakey is the son of the late Louis and Mary Leakey and conducts research with his wife, Meave, and daughter, Louise. The family claims to have unearthed "much of the existing fossil evidence for human evolution."

On the eve of his return to Africa earlier this week, Leakey spoke to The Associated Press in New York City about the past and the future.

"If you look back, the thing that strikes you, if you've got any sensitivity, is that extinction is the most common phenomena," Leakey says. "Extinction is always driven by environmental change. Environmental change is always driven by climate change. Man accelerated, if not created, planet change phenomena; I think we have to recognize that the future is by no means a very rosy one."

Any hope for mankind's future, he insists, rests on accepting existing scientific evidence of its past.

"If we're spreading out across the world from centers like Europe and America that evolution is nonsense and science is nonsense, how do you combat new pathogens, how do you combat new strains of disease that are evolving in the environment?" he asked.

"If you don't like the word evolution, I don't care what you call it, but life has changed. You can lay out all the fossils that have been collected and establish lineages that even a fool could work up. So the question is why, how does this happen? It's not covered by Genesis. There's no explanation for this change going back 500 million years in any book I've read from the lips of any God."

Leakey insists he has no animosity toward religion.

"If you tell me, well, people really need a faith ... I understand that," he said.

"I see no reason why you shouldn't go through your life thinking if you're a good citizen, you'll get a better future in the afterlife ...."

Leakey began his work searching for fossils in the mid-1960s. His team unearthed a nearly complete 1.6-million-year-old skeleton in 1984 that became known as "Turkana Boy," the first known early human with long legs, short arms and a tall stature.

In the late 1980s, Leakey began a career in government service in Kenya, heading the Kenya Wildlife Service. He led the quest to protect elephants from poachers who were killing the animals at an alarming rate in order to harvest their valuable ivory tusks. He gathered 12 tons of confiscated ivory in Nairobi National Park and set it afire in a 1989 demonstration that attracted worldwide headlines.

In 1993, Leakey crashed a small propeller-driven plane; his lower legs were later amputated and he now gets around on artificial limbs. There were suspicions the plane had been sabotaged by his political enemies, but it was never proven.

About a decade ago, he visited Stony Brook University on eastern Long Island, a part of the State University of New York, as a guest lecturer. Then-President Shirley Strum Kenny began lobbying Leakey to join the faculty. It was a process that took about two years; he relented after returning to the campus to accept an honorary degree.

Kenny convinced him that he could remain in Kenya most of the time, where Stony Brook anthropology students could visit and learn about his work. And the college founded in 1957 would benefit from the gravitas of such a noted professor on its faculty.

"It was much easier to work with a new university that didn't have a 200-year-old image where it was so set in its ways like some of the Ivy League schools that you couldn't really change what they did and what they thought," he said.

Earlier this month, Paul Simon performed at a benefit dinner for the Turkana Basin Institute. IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond and his wife, Peggy Bonapace Gelfond, and billionaire hedge fund investor Jim Simons and his wife, Marilyn, were among those attending the exclusive show in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood.

Simon agreed to allow his music to be performed on the National Geographic documentary airing on PBS and donated an autographed guitar at the fundraiser that sold for nearly $20,000.

Leakey, who clearly cherishes investigating the past, is less optimistic about the future.

"We may be on the cusp of some very real disasters that have nothing to do with whether the elephant survives, or a cheetah survives, but if we survive."

Is it just me, or does it seem like everyone, both unbelievers and the lukewarm Laodicean church alike, have no problems with evolution nowdays?

I talked to someone recently expressing concern over how they're requiring this in the public schools, and they're response was "But it's science". And when I told them how the last 2 Popes endorsed it, their response was pretty much the same thing.

Just finished Gail Ripplinger's "New Age Bible Versions", and apparently those other perverted versions subtlely endorse evolution concepts. Not directly, but very subtlely.(no surprise as Wescott and Hort were members of Order of the Ghostly Guild with Charles Darwin)

Actually, evolution is falling out of favor, as science just cannot back it up. The problem is instead of turning to the Lord and acknowledging his creation, people are turning to intelligent design. And intelligent design is nothing more than ancient astronaut theory. IE: Watcher/fallen angel belief.

But still neither is correct and the fight is still ongoing.

This one is worse - the religious right/moral majority leaders like Bill Bright, Jerry Falwell, and even George W have endorsed this to be taught in our public schools.

Myth: ‘No real scientist believes in creation’

30 Ph.D. scientists help bust this old canard

7/16/15

The myth that no real scientist believes in creation has probably been around longer than most reading this have been alive. It should have died a death a long time ago given the wealth of creation material produced by the various creation organizations and the qualified scientists who work for them, let alone the thousands of Bible-believing scientists who work in industry and universities around the world. But it’s a sound bite that the atheists like to use to discredit anyone who attempts to defend the biblical account of creation. Unfortunately, in the age of the Internet, where anyone can post anything at anytime, whether true or false, the myth has found new life. But this is actually a case of playing the man instead of the ball and avoiding the facts that blatantly reveal otherwise.

The real problem is that most Christians have never heard sound evidences or arguments defending Genesis creation and so they are often caught off guard by such ‘elephant hurling’. This is one of the reasons that CMI, in all of its offices around the world, primarily visits churches. Thanks to these visits, many Christians are made aware of, and have access to, the preponderance of creation information.

In late 2014, CMI took the offensive when we launched our Evolution’s Achilles’ Heels project. This resulted in a book and DVD that featured up to 15 Ph.D. scientists who were actual specialists in the very fields that supposedly underpin evolution theory. They showed that the real evidence from the fossil record, genetics, radiometric dating, the origin of life (chemistry), cosmology, etc. were fatal weaknesses for evolutionary dogma. This project has proved hugely popular and has created awareness among Christians like never before, due to its high production quality, but most of all due to the strength of the arguments being presented. For example, Vera B., felt that she now had a tool she could simply share with others. She wrote:

“Have just watched this DVD and am speechless. No, no—I just want to talk, talk, talk about it. What a superb production. Now I have something I can send to my brother who thinks everything to do with creation and God is fairy tale rubbish! He is a scientist and can’t believe there are any decent scientists who would believe this stuff. Thanks × 1000.”

Note how Christians are surprised when real science can support the Bible. How much more might the atheist/evolutionist be surprised when he/she discovers that such science that they defer to actually undermines their own cherished belief system.

‘Real’ science flourished under a Christian worldview

The argument that no real scientist believes in creation is also shown to be false when one considers the history of scientific endeavour itself. In Dr Jonathan Sarfati’s classic article The biblical roots of modern science he demonstrated how a Christian world view, and in particular a plain understanding of Scripture and Adam’s Fall, was essential for the rise of modern science, while it was stillborn in the non-Christian world. For example, Rodney Stark affirmed:

cience was not the work of western secularists or even deists; it was entirely the work of devout believers in an active, conscious, creator God.”1

And any evolutionist learning his scientific trade in university whether it be in the areas of chemistry, physics, or cosmology would also learn about Robert Boyle, Isaac Newton, and Johannes Kepler (respectively), for instance. They learn that these were some of the greatest scientists who ever lived, but probably do not learn that they were also creationists. How can evolutionists honestly claim that creationists don’t do real science, particularly when CMI has attempted to keep a list of the Ph.D. scientists we are aware of on our own site? See Scientists alive today who accept the biblical account of Creation.

Busting Myths—an encouraging new book that is great for witnessing

Busting Myths—30 Ph.D. scientists who believe the Bible and its account of origins is CMI’s latest resource. It’s a beautiful, full colour, magazine-style publication (but 230 pages!) that features interviews with 30 Ph.D. creation scientists. Their areas of expertise include astronomy and astrophysics, biochemistry and biotechnology, biological research, chemistry, genetics, geology and palaeontology, human biology, and physics and engineering. Moreover they affirm that science supports a straightforward reading of Genesis, and why they believe that evolution contradicts both science and Scripture. These modern scientists stand in the long tradition of the biblical creationists who were the founders of most branches of modern science. And some of them have made outstanding contributions such as Dr Raymond Damadian, who discovered the vital signal difference without which the life-saving MRI would not be possible.

For many years each edition of our Creation magazine has also featured an interview with a Ph.D. scientist. Many of the interviewees tell their own stories on how they survived the pressure of being Bible believers in higher education and the scientific workplace. In Busting Myths, editors Dr Jonathan Sarfati and Gary Bates have updated these interviews and compiled them into a resource that would certainly make excellent ‘waiting room’ or coffee table reading. It would also make a great teaching tool for young ones to encourage them in the faith and to also ‘shore them up’ if they are about to enter higher education where they will undoubtedly hear the aforementioned urban legend about creation scientists. Imagine the surprise on the lecturer’s face when presented with such a resource to demonstrably refute his statement.

 Cheesy

Astronomers discover the biggest thing in the Universe

There's some pretty big stuff out there in the Universe, but how big is the biggest? According to a team of Hungarian-US scientists led by Prof Lajos Balazs, the largest regular formation in the Universe is a ring of nine galaxies 7 billion light years away and 5 billion light years wide. Though not visible from Earth, the newly discovered feature covers a third of our sky.

The ring was revealed by nine Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRB) originating from the nine galaxies. GRBs are the brightest, most energetic events in the cosmos, putting out as much energy in seconds as the Sun will in its entire lifetime. They're caused by supernovae or hypernovae – supermassive stars collapse into neutron stars or black holes in times ranging from milliseconds to a few hours. Aside from their spectacular deaths, they also help astronomers to measure the distance of other galaxies.

In this case, the observed GRB's indicate that the nine galaxies are positioned in a ring shaped like a shell. They also show that the galaxies are all of a very similar distance from Earth – according to Prof Balazs, there's only a 1 in 20,000 chance that the ring's arrangement is accidental.

If it was visible to us, the ring would cover 36 percent of the sky, making it 70 times bigger than a full moon.

The importance of the ring isn't just that it appears to be a record breaker – it raises questions about the architecture of the Universe. In particular, it casts doubts on the Cosmological Principle. First asserted by Sir Isaac Newton and developed based on observations of the cosmic microwave background radiation and the structure of the early universe in the past century, it states that at the largest scale, the Universe is uniform, so no matter where you are, it looks essentially the same.

According to the team, recent work indicates that the largest structures can't be more than 1.2 billion light years across. This is at odds with the new discovery, as the ring is about five times as big, implying a much more uneven cosmos.

The next step for the team is to see if the processes controlling galaxy formation and large scale structure could have produced the ring without violating the Cosmological Principle. If not, it could require rethinking how the Universe evolved.

"If we are right, this structure contradicts the current models of the universe," says Balazs. "It was a huge surprise to find something this big – and we still don’t quite understand how it came to exist at all."

The team's results were published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.

Scientists Still Don't Have a Clue How Life Began

 Cheesy

In a typical anti-creationist op-ed piece for Scientific American, columnist John Horgan begins by explaining why he titled his column: "Pssst! Don't tell the creationists, but scientists don't have a clue how life began."

Horgan looks at an Arizona State University status report on research into the origin of life. In Horgan's own words, the scientists concluded, "Geologists, chemists, astronomers and biologists are as stumped as ever by the riddle of life."

He also notes that he was most startled by the revelation that more scientists than ever are believing in the directed panspermia theory. As we've mentioned on a previous Creation Moments broadcast, this is the notion proposed by DNA co-discoverer Francis Crick that aliens came to Earth in a spaceship and planted the seeds of life here billions of years ago. I guess that's like saying that ET didn't phone home after all but started a family of his own here on Earth.

Though he admits that this notion fails to explain how those aliens came into existence, Horgan quickly claims that creationists have the same problem in explaining how life first began. After all, he says, "What created the divine Creator?"

Of course, this is a question that was answered centuries ago. God is the uncreated Creator. Of course, columnist Horgan won't agree with this answer. But he should stop misleading his readers by claiming that creationists are just as perplexed about the origin of life as evolutionists are.

Respected Scientist Says He Found Proof God Exists

One of the world’s most respected scientists has said that there is scientific proof that points to the existence of God.

According to the Geophilosophical Association of Anthropological and Cultural Studies, scientist Michio Kaku, who is known as one of the developers of the revolutionary String Theory, stated, “I have concluded that we are in a world made by rules created by an intelligence.”

In a video Kaku explains, using physics and mathematics and referencing String Theory, how science points to the existence of God.

The very purpose of physics, says Kaku is “to find an equation … which will allow us to unify all the forces of nature and allow us to read the mind of God.”

Kaku has proposed a theory to that end, using what he calls “primitive semi-radius tachyons.”

“To me it is clear that we exists in a plan which is governed by rules that were created, shaped by a universal intelligence and not by chance,” he stated.

Once these new scientific discoveries become widely known, the concept of chance will be changed forever.

“Believe me,” says Kaku, “everything that we call chance today won’t make sense anymore.”

“All nature has come to expect from God a sense of orderliness. Whatever God does carries with it His fingerprint. And in the world around us His fingerprint of orderliness is evident to anybody who is honest with the facts. If you look at nature, you will discover a mathematical exactness. Without this precision, the entire world would be in utter confusion. One plus one always equals two no matter what part of the universe you happen to be in. And the laws of nature operate in beautiful harmony, a harmony that is ordered by God Himself.”

Big Bang in Trouble? Physicists Challenge Key Component of Cosmological Theory

A team of physicists from Harvard and Princeton universities recently ignited a controversy among the scientific community by pointing out apparent weaknesses in a key element of the Big Bang theory.

Physicists Anna Ijjas, Paul Steinhardt, and Abraham Loeb wrote a critique of the standard model of the universe’s beginnings in an edition of the Scientific American earlier this year. Recent scientific measurements, they wrote, have “cast doubt” on a key element of the Big Bang theory and “exacerbated long-standing foundational problems with the theory.”

The key element of the Big Bang theory that the physicists call into question is the theory of “cosmic inflation.” Cosmic inflation is the widely-accepted idea that, immediately following the Big Bang, the universe grew exponentially, expanding in size much faster than it is today.

In their paper, however, Ijjas, Steinhardt, and Loeb cited several pieces of evidence that they believe undermine cosmic inflation, later writing, “the prospect that inflation did not occur deserves serious consideration.”

“Yet even now the cosmology community has not taken a cold, honest look at the big bang inflationary theory or paid significant attention to critics who question whether inflation happened,” they asserted. “Rather cosmologists appear to accept at face value the proponents’ assertion that we must believe the inflationary theory because it offers the only simple explanation of the observed features of the universe.”

Not only have recent astronomical observations “shaken the foundations” of the Big Bang theory, but the theory of inflation has “theoretical problems” as well, the physicists wrote. Thus, they reasoned, “The prospect that inflation did not occur deserves serious consideration.”

The physicists’ paper elicited a response from a group of 33 physicists, including Stephen Hawking and Lawrence Krauss. Even though they conceded that “no one claims that inflation has become certain,” they noted that they “disagree with a number of statements” in the original Scientific American article.

“By claiming that inflationary cosmology lies outside the scientific method, IS&L are dismissing the research of not only all the authors of this letter but also that of a substantial contingent of the scientific community,” the physicists wrote. “Moreover, as the work of several major, international collaborations has made clear, inflation is not only testable, but it has been subjected to a significant number of tests and so far has passed every one.”

“Inflationary models, like all scientific theories, rest on a set of assumptions, and to understand those assumptions we might need to appeal to some deeper theory. This, however, does not undermine the success of inflationary models,” they asserted. “The fact that our knowledge of the universe is still incomplete is absolutely no reason to ignore the impressive empirical success of the standard inflationary models.”

However, Ijjas, Steinhardt, and Loeb did not back down, remarking in an online blog post that they are “disappointed” by the response from the physicists.

“We firmly believe that in a healthy scientific community, respectful disagreement is possible and hence reject the suggestion that, by pointing out problems, we are discarding the work of all of those who developed the theory of inflation and enabled precise measurements of the universe,” they wrote.

“Unlike the Standard Model, even after fixing all the parameters, any inflationary model gives an infinite diversity of outcomes with none preferred over any other. This makes inflation immune from any observational test,” the physicists noted. “We advocated against invoking authority and for open recognition of the shortcomings of current concepts, a reinvigorated effort to resolve these problems and an open-minded exploration of diverse ideas that avoid them altogether. We stand by these principles.”

Weighing in on the cosmic controversy, Jake Hebert, a physicist with the Institute for Creation Research, said that the Big Bang theory is “riddled with serious scientific difficulties, some of which have been highlighted by this recent spat among leading theorists.” Not only that, but the theory “flatly contradicts Scripture,” he stated.

“Many Christians are tempted to accept that the Big Bang was the means God used to create the universe,” he wrote in a blog post. “But … where would it leave Christians if secular scientists should ultimately abandon the Big Bang? Christians should resist the temptation to accommodate Genesis to the fallible, ever-changing ideas of secular scientists.”

Evolutionists Try to Nourish Darwin’s Wilting Tree of Life

In the 158 years since Charles Darwin developed the idea that all living organisms evolved from one common ancestor, scientists have attempted to prop up the so-called “tree of life” theory against the prevailing winds of reason. Since 1859, little empirical evidence has supported the concept, but a team of researchers from Rutgers University thinks reshaping the tree could help prove its existence.

The researchers say the tree doesn’t give the full picture of evolution because it depicts various families of organisms as independent branches. A better picture would show how forms of life such as microbes and their hosts are linked physically and evolve together. “The goal is to transform a two-dimensional tree into one that is multidimensional and includes biological interactions among species,” researcher Debashish Bhattacharya said in a statement.

Even though the researchers want to reshape Darwin’s tree, they were quick to defend their champion. “What we wish to clearly stress is that we are not engaged in Darwin-bashing. We consider Darwin a hero of science,” Bhattacharya said.

But failure to give microbes their due credit is not the only problem that has eaten away the roots of Darwin’s tree, said Jonathan Wells, a biologist and author. Even in 2000 when he wrote Zombie Science: More Icons of Evolution, there were many scientific problems with the tree of life concept. “And now, 17 years later, the problems have grown worse,” Wells said in a video posted on the Discovery Institute’s Evolution News and Science blog.

It seems no reshaping of the tree can overcome its difficulties. Recently, the discovery of orphan genes, genes that do not show descent from a common ancestor because they have no similarity to genes in other species, has begun chopping away at the tree. The only way scientists can keep believing the illusion is to simply ignore the existence of orphan genes, Wells said: “The reason we get a tree, in the first place is only because we assume at the outset that it’s there.”

Scripture Affirmed: 90 Percent Of Animals Formed Recently Alongside Humans, New Study Shows

A new genetic study showing that 90 percent of animals appeared on the Earth simultaneously and at the same time as humans affirms the biblical account of creation, says Ken Ham, founder and president of Answers in Genesis.

The study, published in the journal Human Evolution, examined the “DNA barcodes” from 100,000 animal species and showed that “nine out of 10 species on Earth today, including humans, came into being 100,000 to 200,000 years ago,” according to Phys.org.

The study’s conclusion goes against evolutionary theory.

“This conclusion is very surprising, and I fought against it as hard as I could,” researcher David Thaler of the University of Basel in Switzerland told AFP.

As Phys.org reported, the findings are “sure to jostle, if not overturn, more than one settled idea about how evolution unfolds.”

The research raised the possibility that a catastrophic event wiped out most of the life on Earth 100,000 to 200,000 years ago.

But Ham said the research affirms what Scripture says about life’s origins. Creationists believe the catastrophic event was the flood.

“Evolution doesn’t expect the vast majority of our species to have arrived at the same time, nor does it expect species to have these clear genetic boundaries,” he said. “But this is what we’d expect in a biblical worldview -- indeed it’s what creationists have been saying all along, although their timeframe of 100,000–200,000 years is inflated, due to evolutionary assumptions.”

Nathaniel Jeanson, who hold a Ph.D. from Harvard and is a research biologist at Answers in Genesis, added that “there's a great danger to the evolutionary model in this study in ways they don't quite realize yet.”

“The study suggests many, many species formed contemporaneously with modern human origins,” Jeanson said. “We know from mitochondrial DNA clocks that modern humans formed within the last 6,000 years. Therefore, this study implies that many, many species formed within the last 6,000 years.”
