Global crackdown on 'right wing' extremists gaining momentumAs millions of Islamic migrants flood into Europe, the government of Belgium is worried about attacks on the migrants from elements of the “far right,” according to a Belgium newspaper.
The Belgium government has raised the terror alert level from 1 to 2 (on a scale of 1-4) citing fear of reprisals against the migrants. Police protection will be stepped up around the nation’s asylum reception centers.
“The decision to raise the threat level from low to average comes after recent incidents of attacks on asylum reception centers in Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands,” Flanders News reports.
Belgium police admitted there is “no indication” that similar attacks are planned in Belgium, but they decided to raise the alert level as a “precautionary measure” based on intelligence reports from other European countries.
Last week police in Germany reportedly “thwarted a planned attack by a far-right group on two asylum reception centers in Bavaria,” the newspaper reported. “The suspects had arms, knives and explosives at their disposal.”
Violence against refugees is on the rise in Sweden and the Netherlands with arson attacks and raids having been carried out on asylum centers by so-called “far-right” groups.
Breitbart London has reported on arson events at shelters in Sweden and Germany in recent weeks, but these are being carried out by disgruntled locals, frozen out of the planning process for the location of migrant houses venting their frustration.
Obama working to globalize cops in hunt for ‘extremists’
This policy of targeting “right wing” elements within their own native population is eerily similar to what President Obama has been doing recently in the U.S.
Earlier this month WND reported Obama has created a special “domestic extremism counsel,” a new position within the Justice Department, to focus on violent homegrown extremists, which Assistant Attorney General John Carlin said are just as dangerous, if not more so, than groups associated with Islamic terrorist organizations like ISIS or al-Qaida.
WND has also reported on Obama’s new “Strong Cities Network,” an international policing program announced at the United Nations on Sept. 29 by Attorney General Loretta Lynch and New York Mayor Bill De Blasio.
De Blasio, speaking at the U.N., said Strong Cities will target “intolerance” and make his city safer.
In an effort to assure Muslims that they would not be targeted by the Strong Cities Network, De Blasio in his speech to the U.N. referenced past violent attacks like the 1994 shootings on greater Boston Planned Parenthood clinics and the recent Charleston, S.C., shooting in which a psychologically unstable young white man killed nine black churchgoers.
“We will be vigilant against all forms of violent extremism, whether it’s based in religious, or racial, or nationalistic or ideological intolerance,” he said.
More than 25 cities have joined the global network against “violent extremism,” including New York, Atlanta, Paris, Montreal, Minneapolis, Denver, London, Tunis, Mumbai, Palermo, Beirut, Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen, and Rotterdam.
In announcing the Strong Cities Network, Lynch said its purpose was to “serve as a vital tool to strengthen capacity-building and improve collaboration,” and also to “build a community of cities to inspire local action on a global scale.”
On the Strong Cities website, it talks about building “a community that can mobilize local action on a global scale.” It refers to itself as “a global community of local authority representatives…working to prevent violent extremism in all its forms.”
The SCN website also says its goal is to have cities implement “new and innovative practices” against extremists, but it doesn’t say what those practices will be.
In a reaction to the news in Belgium, the socialist mayor of the Vilvoorde Hans Bonte told VRT News he thought the government raising the threat level didn’t go far enough in rooting out right wing threats.
“I pointed out the absurdity of the situation that threat level 2 was in force elsewhere in the country, but around the asylum centers it was still threat level 1. They say that there are no indication of a threat, but that is not true. On 3 October I raised the issue of a far-right group that is active in Vilvoorde and has daubed houses with swastikas and far-right slogans.”
