10 countries for a United States of Europe

Ten EU foreign ministers participating in a “study group for the future of Europe” aim to exert pressure to transform the EU into a federation along the lines of the US. Together they have prepared what the front-page headline in Die Presse describes as a “Plan for transformation into a European state.” On 19 June, the ten ministers* presented an initial report to the EU officials who will likely benefit the most from the initiative: Commission President José Manuel Barroso, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, European Central Bank President Mario Draghi and Eurogroup President Jean-Claude Juncker.

The “study group for the future” initiated by Germany's Guido Westerwelle, which does not currently include an official French representative, proposes to put an end to the dominance of national government leaders and give greater authority to the European Commission – in particular the European Commission president, who will be elected by universal suffrage and granted the right to form a “governmental team”, making him or her the most powerful politician in Europe.

The group also recommends replacing European councils of ministers and heads of state with a chamber “of states” in the European parliament. National competencies, most notably the management of borders, defence and public spending will be transferred to the federation, “making membership of the euro irreversible.”

Die Presse argues that it is not surprising to see diplomats from countries which have lost all of their influence since the Treaty of Nice, signed in 2001, and even more so since the outbreak of the crisis, make a bid to play a more important role. However, the daily concludes –

A clearly defined democratic system resembling a state would probably not be in accord with the mood of several sections of the population. But everyone who wants to safeguard the euro, the single market and political stability, while preventing a widening wealth gap between the North and the South and a reinforcement of nationalist trends will ultimately accept that it is the best way forward.

We want a United States of Europe says top EU official

Voters must decide for or against a United States of Europe during EU elections this spring, says vice president of the European Commission

campaign for the European Union to become a "United States of Europe" will be the "best weapon against the Eurosceptics", one of Brussels' most senior officials has said.

Viviane Reding, vice president of the European Commission and the longest serving Brussels commissioner, has called for "a true political union" to be put on the agenda for EU elections this spring.

"We need to build a United States of Europe with the Commission as government and two chambers – the European Parliament and a "Senate" of Member States," she said.

Mrs Reding's vision, which is shared by many in the European institutions, would transform the EU into superstate relegating national governments and parliaments to a minor political role equivalent to that played by local councils in Britain.

Under her plan, the commission would have supremacy over governments and MEPs in the European Parliament would supersede the sovereignty of MPs in the House of Commons.

National leaders, meeting as the European Council, would be reduced to consultative, second chamber role similar to the House of Lords.

Nigel Farage, the leader of Ukip, said that Mrs Reding had revealed the true choice for British voters to make at polling stations.

"For people in power in Brussels that is the only choice on offer, no reform just a United States of Europe. On 22 May the British people must ask themselves if they want this and vote accordingly," he said.

"I am sure people will say no to this centralist fanaticism."

Mrs Reding's comments illustrate the growing gulf between a Europe committed to "ever closer union" and Britain, which is pushing to reduce the EU's powers.

"We assume Britain's leaving the EU so we don't even bother thinking about British sensitivities at the moment," said an official.

While Britain may have been written off, concern is mounting because hostility has reached unprecedented levels across continental Europe and anti-EU parties are leading the polls in France, the Netherlands and Greece.

Senior EU figures, such as Mrs Reding, want the European elections in May to move beyond debates over eurozone austerity by embracing a grand vision of Europe.

"This debate is moving into the decisive phase now. In a little more than four months' time, citizens across Europe will be able to choose the Europe they want to live in," she said.

"There is a lot at stake. The outcome of these elections will shape Europe for the years to come. That is why voting at these elections is crucial.

This will be our best weapon against the Eurosceptics: to explain to our citizens that their vote really matters."

In the run up to the springtime pan-European vote, the EU is gearing up to mount an unprecedented campaign for the hearts and minds of voters.

Speaking in Athens, José Manuel Barroso, the commission president, signalled that the EU would use the centenary of World War One to warn that Euroscepticism, far-Right and populist anti-European parties could bring war back to Europe.

"No other political construction to date has proven to be a better way of organising life to lessen the barbarity in this world," he said.

"It is especially important to recall this as we will commemorate this year the start of the First World War. We must never take peace, democracy or freedom for granted. It is also especially important to remind this as in May the peoples of Europe will be called to participate in European elections."

The attempt by Mr Barroso and Mrs Reding to raise the stakes in the EU elections have not been well received by all governments.

"Federalist hyperbole about a United States is the opposite of helpful to the majority of countries who want a reformed EU to work better," said a European diplomat.

Soros uses Ukraine Crisis to Argue for a Centralized Europe

“Europe was totally unprepared for this crisis and Putin outmaneuvered Europe with no difficulty,” he said. Soros, who became known as the Man Who Broke the Bank of England after making $1 billion by betting against Europe’s previous financial union, has long insisted that the Euro was being fatally mismanaged.

Can't see those being the ten horns, outside of Spain, Germany and Italy (maybe Poland and Austria). Other than that, no. I definitely think Greece has to be in there.

But we can see we're getting closer and closer, definitely.

President Blair? Is he the best hope for faltering EU project?
The former PM, a pro-European to his manicured fingertips, appears to make a pitch for the job

Could Tony Blair be pushing himself forward to become the next President of the European Union? The question has been raised after a Radio 4 Today programme interview which sounded like an application for the job.

While David Cameron hits the phone to Angela Merkel ahead of tonight's panic summit of European heads in Brussels, Blair is already in Berlin for face-to-face talks with the German Chancellor about how to rescue the European project from a swing to the anti-EU parties across the continent, including Ukip in Britain and the Front National in France.

As Blair's one-time Minister for Europe Denis MacShane tweeted this morning: “While Cam pleads with Merkel on phone line from Downing St bunker Blair is sur place in Berlin for face-to-face with Angie. TB for Com Prez?”

The rise of the Eurosceptics – make that Euro-haters - has clearly left EU leaders wobbling at the knees. But Blair said they should toughen up and he accused Ukip of being “nasty and unpleasant” despite the surge in popularity for Farage’s party in the local and European elections.

“I have always said you have to have proper controls on immigration and deal with those parts of the immigrant population who are rejecting integrating into the mainstream. However, to allow that to trend into anti-immigrant feeling is a huge mistake for the country.

“People in Ukip say other politicians don’t get it. I do get it and I get them. If you look a little bit beneath that Ukip façade you see something pretty nasty and unpleasant.”

Ukip and the FN – not to mention fascist Golden Dawn or the extreme lefties in Athens – are "very reactionary forces," said Blair.  "You have got to confront them, expose them and take them on."

Blair was touted as a possible EU president in 2009 when Labour under Gordon Brown was heading for defeat in the 2010 general election. At that time, his allies let it be known he would only be interested in the job if it carried real power.

As The Week reported at the time, friends of the former PM told The Times that he wants to "make a difference" and not just act as the permanent chairman of the EU Council of Ministers, which is all some European leaders expect of him. It would also have meant a massive cut in his annual income, reckoned to be over £10 million.

So Blair passed up the chance five years ago, but times and Farage/Le Pen have radically changed the face of Europe. He could now be seen as just the man to step in and rescue the European project from the Vandals and the Visigoths. And having earned a ton of money since he left Downing Street, the appeal of the title – President Blair – might now outweigh other considerations.

Blair has a powerful case as a candidate: whether you like him or loathe him, he’s still box office. He’s not a faceless bureaucrat like the two front-runners for the post, Jean-Claude Juncker, the former PM of Luxembourg and Martin Shulz, a German lefty and president of the European Parliament.

More important, as Blair demonstrated on Today, he is pro-European down to his manicured fingertips. His comments this morning will be music to the ears of the centrists who still hold the power in Europe, despite the rise of the Eurosceptics.

“You have to expose the fact that these parties have no solutions to the problems of the 21st Century," he said. "For a country like Britain, if you want to exercise weight and power and influence in the world, you have to do it through alliances.

“The rationale for Europe today is probably stronger than it’s ever been… the rationale for Europe today is power.”

Blair brushed aside concerns that the long-delayed Chilcot report into allegations of an “illegal” invasion of Iraq could lead to him being branded as a war criminal. Blair said he wants the report to be published so he can answer any allegations. ·

http://news.yahoo.com/britain-nears-eu-exit-cameron-loss-papers-005119699.html
Britain nears EU exit after Cameron loss, papers say
6/27/14

London (AFP) - Newspapers warned Saturday the country had edged closer to leaving the EU after Prime Minister David Cameron's "crushing" failure to block Jean-Claude Juncker becoming president of the European Commission.

But they were divided on whether it was Cameron or Brussels who was most to blame for making it harder to convince Britons to vote to stay in the European Union in a 2017 referendum.

"One step closer to quitting Europe," the Daily Telegraph said in its main front page headline, while Rupert Murdoch's The Times said: "Britain nears EU exit."

The Guardian ran with the almost identical "Britain closer to EU exit after Juncker vote", and the Independent said: "Cameron Crushed - and UK edges closer to an EU exit."

The Sun took a more predictably patriotic line with the headline: "Cam: We're at war with EU."

Some newspapers were heavily critical of Cameron's handling of the Juncker battle, which was widely viewed as making it harder for him to win the renegotiation of Britain's terms of membership that he has promised before the referendum.

"Loser Cameron branded the Rooney of Europe," the Daily Mail said.

In an editorial, the Independent called it "a defeat -- and a disaster."

"Splendid isolation is not the way to win arguments in the EU," it said.

Cameron "could become the accidental hero of the eurosceptics, the man who leads the UK into an accidental exit from the EU," it added.

The Financial Times said it was a "historic shift of power in the EU" as well as being a "dangerous moment for Britain's relations with Europe."

But The Times said that Britain was better off in "splendid isolation".

"The appointment of Jean-Claude Juncker is bad for the EU. David Cameron was right to oppose it to the bitter end," it said in its leader column.

It added that Cameron had "strengthened Britain's position with his robust opposition" and even his own chances in the UK's general election next year.

The Telegraph laid the blame squarely with the EU, saying it was up to Brussels to make the argument for Britain remaining in the bloc.

"If Europe wanted to drive Britain away, then the appointment of Jean-Claude Juncker was the way to go about it," it said in a leading article.

"Mr. Cameron must now make his argument. But given that this latest insult -- a blow to British ambitions -- has come from within the EU, it is also up to the EU to make its own case as to why we should stay."

NATO Meeting at Cardiff and Obama's 10 Nations
9/12/14

Just recently NATO with Obama in attendance met at Cardiff Norman Castle in Wales.
The picture above is the "red dragon" statue right outside the place. We know Wales has as it's symbol the "red dragon". It is on it's flag, but it is interesting this was the castle they chose to do their war mongering plans.

"And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. ..."

They put a dragon on their banners too....[see in the background]

http://www.globalresearch.ca/nato-summit-day-two-global-police-force-and-readiness-action-plan-against-russia/5399916

A Wales Summit Declaration in part said:

“We, the Heads of State and Government of the member countries of the North Atlantic Alliance (met) at a pivotal moment in the Euro-Atlantic security.”
Fact: US-led NATO bears full responsibility for global instability, lack of security, and permanent wars.
“Russia’s aggressive actions against Ukraine have fundamentally challenged our vision of a Europe whole,.free, and at peace.”

http://www.cnn.com/2014/09/08/world/meast/isis-mideast-nations/index.html

It is interesting too in light of Bible Prophecy that Obama has chosen a 10 nation coalition.

(CNN) -- A 10-nation group the Obama administration has gathered to fight ISIS could help, but more important will be the nations that surround the Islamist militant group's self-declared "caliphate," experts say.

After meetings at last week's NATO Summit, U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel spoke of a newly formed "core coalition." President Barack Obama said it would take on ISIS. The nations are Australia, Britain, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Turkey, in addition to the United States.

Daniel 7:23-24King James Version (KJV)
23 Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.
24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.

One thing ignore those who say Obama is the Antichrist and/or that a pre-mill Rapture will take us out of tribulations to come. Remember they always point away from the real Antichrist.

Bible prophecy books for decades have warned of a 10 nation coalition arising out of the EU or even what they used to call the "common market" a long time ago. The real head in my opinion of the "revived Holy Roman Empire" is the Pope. Remember while this was all going on the Pope and Peres were busy talking about their United Religions plans. The Pope wants his New World Order.

The President Of France Wants Eurozone Members To Transfer Their Sovereignty To A United States Of Europe

The President of France has come up with a very creative way of solving the European debt crisis.  On Sunday, a piece authored by French President Francois Hollande suggested that the ultimate solution to the problems currently plaguing Europe would be for every member of the eurozone to transfer all of their sovereignty to a newly created federal government.  In other words, it would essentially be a “United States of Europe”.  This federal government would have a prime minister, a parliament, a federal budget and a federal treasury.  Presumably, the current national governments in Europe would continue to function much like state governments in the U.S. do.  In the end, there may be some benefits to such a union – particularly for the weaker members of the eurozone.  But at what cost would those benefits come?

When I first learned that French President Francois Hollande had proposed that the members of the eurozone should create their own version of a federal government, I was quite stunned.  But I shouldn’t have been surprised.  For the global elite, the answer to just about any problem is more centralization.  The following comes from a Bloomberg article that was posted on Sunday…

French President Francois Hollande said that the 19 countries using the euro need their own government complete with a budget and parliament to cooperate better and overcome the Greek crisis.

“Circumstances are leading us to accelerate,” Hollande said in an opinion piece published by the Journal du Dimanche on Sunday. “What threatens us is not too much Europe, but a lack of it.”

So precisely what would “more Europe” look like?

Hollande envisions a central government that has both a parliament and a federal budget…

“I have proposed taking up Jacques Delors’ idea about euro government, with the addition of a specific budget and a parliament to ensure democratic control,” Hollande said.

His remarks touched on what analysts have seen as a major flaw in the euro.

Under the 1992 Treaty of Maastricht, countries which share a common currency must obey rules on borrowing and deficit spending.

But the Greek crisis saw one of the 19 eurozone members notch up successive worsening deficits and amass a mountain of debt. The problems were only addressed by bailouts from the European institutions and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Critics say the problem stems from a lack of centralised control over national fiscal policies, which today are jealously guarded areas of sovereignty.

In addition, this eurozone government would have its own prime minister.  In essence, he would be the European version of the president of the United States.  The following comes from the Independent…

There would be a eurozone government with its own prime minister, the officials said. This government would have its own budget – separate from the EU budget – to aid and invest in more fragile countries, It would try to harmonise corporation and pay-roll taxes to ensure fair competition in the eurozone.

Of course Hollande is not the only one calling for more centralization.  Last month, European Central Bank President Mario Draghi, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem proposed a plan that would create a shared European treasury…

Draghi called for the creation of a shared treasury within 10 years in a joint proposal with politicians including European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem last month.

I don’t anticipate that we will see any of these things implemented immediately.

However, what is important is the fact that this is where the European elite plan to take Europe.  And when the next great European financial crisis erupts, these proposals will be offered as the “solutions” necessary to end the crisis.

During times of emergency, the elite are often able to push things through that they would never be able to accomplish under normal circumstances.  At the moment, it would be extremely difficult to get everyone to agree to a full-blown “United States of Europe”.  But if things were to start spinning wildly out of control and people were suddenly desperately clamoring for solutions, the environment would be quite different.

What that time arrives, the key will be to get Germany and France to agree on what a “United States of Europe” should look like.  If Germany and France can agree, it is inevitable that most of the other members of the eurozone would ultimately fall in line.

One potential hurdle for the creation of this new government would be the euro.  The current treaty agreements concerning the euro are quite complicated and quite restrictive.  If Germany and France decided that they did want to create a “United States of Europe”, they might have to create an entirely new currency in order to accomplish that.

I know that sounds kind of crazy right now, but at one time the concept of “the euro” sounded really crazy too.

For the moment, the debt crisis in Europe just continues to get even worse.  Greece, Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Belgium and France are all drowning in debt.  Whether or not we see a “Grexit” in the short-term, I fully expect that European bond yields will continue to rise and European stocks will take quite a tumble in the months ahead.

I believe that we are right on the verge of a very significant European financial crisis.  In particular, keep on eye on the big banks.  Just like in the United States, the “too big to fail” banks in Europe are massively overleveraged and are tremendously exposed to derivatives.

In fact, the bank with the most exposure to derivatives on the entire planet is Deutsche Bank.  It has been reported that Deutsche Bank has a whopping 75 trillion dollars worth of exposure to derivatives, their co-CEOs were recently forced to resign, and there are all sorts of rumblings about troubles going on behind the scenes at the bank.

What do you think would happen if the biggest and most important bank in Germany suddenly became the next Lehman Brothers?

That is something to think about.

Meanwhile, the euro continues to fall.  For a long time, I have been repeating my prediction that the euro would fall to parity with the U.S. dollar.

One year ago, the EUR/USD was sitting at 1.35.

Today, it has come all the way down to 1.08.

There will be more ups and downs, but we are almost there.

A time of great chaos is coming to Europe, and the eurozone will be deeply shaken.

But whether or not there is a break up of the eurozone in the short-term, in the long-term the goal of the European elite is even more integration and even more centralization.

So even though there will be significant bumps in the road, I fully expect to see the “United States of Europe” that French President Francois Hollande has proposed.

Do you agree?

What do you think the future holds for Europe?

EU FALLING APART: Former Italy PM warns bloc DISINTEGRATING which could spark WAR

ITALY’s former prime minister has claimed the European Union could be “heading towards disintegration”, which could even spark WAR on the continent.

Leading europhile Mario Monti, who led a government of technocrats at the height his country’s debt crisis between 2011 and 2013, bemoaned the number of crises that are currently afflicting the Brussels-based bloc.

Over recent years, EU officials have been scrambling to deal with the eurozone crisis, soaring unemployment, the threat of Islamic State terrorism and the unprecedented influx of migrants into Europe.

Britain could also quit the 28-country bloc on June 23, which EU chiefs fear could spark a ‘domino effect’ of other member states also leaving in the event of a Brexit vote.

Referring to these mounting troubles, Mr Monti told website Politico.eu: “The EU is going through a crisis which leads me and others for the first time to consider whether we are not heading towards disintegration.

“The EU has never been hit by such a high number of different crises of this gravity.

“What I am concerned about is that, although the EU has developed itself historically through a process of crisis, response to the crisis, and advancement, this time around it may well not happen.”

The former European Commissioner even suggested if the EU were to crumble then Europe could plunge into another period of conflict between its nations.

He said: “On European soil, the natural state of affairs is not peace — if it weren’t for the structured integration of countries, which have a habit of going to war with each other from time to time.”

The Italian politician noted how among the EU’s member states “the degree of mistrust and sheer prejudices between North and South and between East and West has never been so high and so unashamedly voiced”.

Mr Monti, believed to be a leading member of the secretive Bilderberg Group of political elites, is currently heading an EU committee looking at whether the bloc’s budget should be expanded.

He suggested that amid the EU’s current state of crisis “maybe there should also be new resources”, while he also hit out at the fact power had shifted away from unelected Brussels commissioners to national leaders.

Mr Monti accused those national leaders of pandering to rising euroscepticism across European countries in order boost their own “personal political” interests domestically.

Earlier this month, European Parliament president Martin Schulz also voiced his fear the EU soon fall apart.

Admitting “many people” have now lost trust in the EU, the German politician warned a Brexit vote this summer could lead to the “implosion of the EU” as many of the remaining 27 countries will also want to “escape”.

European SUPERSTATE to be unveiled: EU nations 'to be morphed into one' post-Brexit

German Angela Merkel met with European heads today at the EU summit

The foreign ministers of France and Germany are due to reveal a blueprint to effectively do away with individual member states in what is being described as an “ultimatum”.

Under the radical proposals EU countries will lose the right to have their own army, criminal law, taxation system or central bank, with all those powers being transferred to Brussels.

Controversially member states would also lose what few controls they have left over their own borders, including the procedure for admitting and relocating refugees.

The plot has sparked fury and panic in Poland - a traditional ally of Britain in the fight against federalism - after being leaked to Polish news channel TVP Info.

Polish politicians say the plans include loss of control of a number of key policy areas

Polish foreign minister Witold Waszczykowski has blasted the plan

The public broadcaster reports that the bombshell proposal will be presented to a meeting of the Visegrad group of countries - made up of Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia - by German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier later today.

Excerpts of the nine-page report were published today as the leaders of Germany, France and Italy met in Berlin for Brexit crisis talks.

In the preamble to the text the two ministers write: "Our countries share a common destiny and a common set of values ??that give rise to an even closer union between our citizens. We will therefore strive for a political union in Europe and invite the next Europeans to participate in this venture."

The revelations come just days after Britain shook the Brussels establishment by voting to leave the European Union in a move some have predicted could leave to the break-up of the EU.

A number of member states are deeply unhappy about the creeping federalism of the European project with anti-EU sentiments running high in eastern Europe, Scandinavia and France.

Opponents of the EU have warned of its ambitions to create a superstate

Britain voted to leave the European Union in an historic referendum last Thursday

Responding to the plot Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski raged: "This is not a good solution, of course, because from the time the EU was invented a lot has changed.

“The mood in European societies is different. Europe and our voters do not want to give the Union over into the hands of technocrats.

“Therefore, I want to talk about this, whether this really is the right recipe right now in the context of a Brexit."

There are deep divides at the heart of the EU at the moment over how to proceed with the project in light of the Brexit vote.

Some figures have cautioned against trying to force through further political integration, warning that to do so against the wishes of the European people will only fuel further Eurosceptic feeling.

This is not a good solution

    Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski

A few weeks before the Brexit vote European Council president Donald Tusk warned that European citizens did not share the enthusiasm of some of their leaders for “a utopia of Europe without conflicting interests and ambitions, a utopia of Europe imposing its own values on the external world, a utopia of Euro-Asian unity”.

He added: “Increasingly louder are those who question the very principle of a united Europe. The spectre of a break-up is haunting Europe and a vision of a federation doesn’t seem to me to be the best answer to it.”

His view was backed up by the leader of the eurozone countries, Dutch politician Jerome Dijsselbloem, who added: “In the eurozone some are pushing for a completion of the monetary union by creating a full political union, a euro area economic government or even a euro budget… to me it is obvious.

“We need to strengthen what we have and finish it, but let’s not build more extensions to the European house while it is so unstable.”

Meanwhile Lorenzo Condign, the former director general of Italy’s treasury, has said it is nearly impossible to see Europe opting for more integration at such a time of upheaval.

He said: “It seems difficult to imagine that the rest of the EU will close ranks and move in the direction of greater integration quickly. Simply, there is no political will.

“Indeed, the risk is exactly the opposite - namely that centrifugal forces will prevail and make integration even more difficult.”

But others see the Brexit vote as an opportunity to push ahead with the European elite’s long-cherished dream of creating a United States of Europe.

Spain’s foreign minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo has called for “more Europe” whilst Italy’s finance minister, Carlo Padoan, is advocating a common budget for the eurozone states.

And Emmanuel Macron, France’s economy minister, wants to go even further and set up a common eurozone treasury which would oversee the permanent transfer of funds from wealthier northern Europe to shore up Mediterranean economies.

EU Army on way? EU cannot rely on NATO and needs new defence policy says Brussels chief

THE European Union cannot rely on NATO to protect its member states from external threats and must develop a policy of collective defence that allows it to "act autonomously if and when necessary".

According to a new foreign policy document from the Brussels-based institution to be handed to EU leaders next week, a "credible European defence" is also essential to preserve good relations with the US.

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini's Global Strategy document states that "as Europeans we must take greater responsibility for our security"

The white paper adds: "While NATO exists to defend its members — most of which are European — from external attack, Europeans must be better equipped, trained and organised to contribute decisively to such collective efforts, as well as to act autonomously if and when necessary.

"A more credible European defence is essential also for the sake of a healthy transatlantic partnership with the United States."

While it stresses that "NATO remains the primary framework for most member states", it goes on to urge EU members to "channel a sufficient level of expenditure to defence".

The document continues: “We live in times of existential crisis, within and beyond the European Union.

“Our Union is under threat. Our European project, which has brought unprecedented peace, prosperity and democracy, is being questioned.

“To the east, the European security order has been violated, while terrorism and violence plague North Africa and the Middle East, as well as Europe itself.

“A fragile world calls for a more confident and responsible European Union, it calls for an outward- and forward-looking European foreign and security policy.”

The white paper will be seized on by Eurosceptics as proof of a plot to set up an EU army - a notion that has been widely dismissed by diplomats in Brussels and London.

The warning of a European army was at the core of the Brexit campaign and became a hot topic with both sides trading blows over the truth of claims Brussels wanted to create a NATO-style organisation.

America subsidises European defence by vastly outspending all other NATO members and the EU believes a stronger continental force would take the pressure off the Pentagon.

But while the latest EU policy document calls for joint working on matters of defence, it stops short of explicitly calling for the creation of an EU army, which would require treaty change.

The head of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs, Elmar Brok, has also argued for "more cooperation in the European defence policy".

Downing Street had previously stated there was "no prospect of an EU army".

However, with Britain out of Europe it will not be able to veto a treaty change on the combined force.

EUROPEAN 'SUPERSTATE' SUGGESTED AS BREXIT SOLUTION
Kremlin says Brits' departure from EU like Soviet collapse

The tumult following last week’s vote in the United Kingdom to leave the European Union intensified on Monday when it was revealed that a new “superstate” is being considered in which nations would “lose the right to have their own army, criminal law, taxation system or central bank,” according to one report.

Britain’s credit rating also took a hit, more nations expressed interest in following the U.K., outgoing Prime Minister David Cameron’s political party was in shambles and Russia described the ruckus as being similar to the breakup of the old Soviet Union.

WND reported on Friday the vote already prompted the resignation announcement by Cameron and the interest expressed by France, the Netherlands and Italy for a referendum on EU membership.

Stock markets around the world declined again on Monday, following Friday’s fall that left the U.S. stock market off its highs by about 2 or 3 percent. Monday’s decline was only half that, but still amounted to tens of billions of dollars of value vanished from corporate books and citizens’ retirement accounts.

The nearly 50-year-old union reached no level of stabilization over the weekend and on Monday, the Express reported “the foreign ministers of France and Germany” were revealing “a blueprint to effectively do away with individual member states.”

Nick Adams’ book, “The American Boomerang: How The World’s Greatest Turnaround Nation Will Do It Again,” is endorsed by the likes of Dr. Ben Carson, Glenn Beck, Dick Morris, Gov. Mike Huckabee and Dennis Prager

The report said, “Under the radical proposals E.U. countries will lose the right to have their own army, criminal law, taxation system or central bank, with all those powers being transferred to Brussels.”

The report said the plot “has sparked fury and panic in Poland” after being leaked to Polish news channel TVP Info.

Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski said, “This is not a good solution, of course, because from the time the E.U. was invented a lot has changed.”

The London Daily Mail said the presentation came from Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Germany’s foreign minister, and Jean-Marc Ayrault, his French counterpart.

They described it as a way to address the migrant crisis, economic cooperation and security. But in Poland, it was described as an “ultimatum.”

The Mail speculated Britain may have avoided the new “superstate,” through which nations would “transfer their armies, economic systems and border controls to the E.U.”

A report at Vox said Britain’s Conservative Party was “in total turmoil” following the vote.

Cameron had opposed the vote to leave but was rejected by his own party, prompting his decision to resign.

The Daily Mail said: “But if anything, Labour is in even greater disarray after the Brexit vote. While the party as a whole supported the ‘Remain’ side, leader Jeremy Corbyn was widely believed to have been ambivalent about staying in the EU and to have pulled his punches in campaigning against an exit. After the vote, more enthusiastically pro-EU Labour members started to vent their frustration.”

Columnist Patrick Buchanan pointed out the English people “want to write their own laws and rule themselves.”

“It will all begin to unravel now, over there, and soon over here,” he continued. “Across Europe, tribalism, of all strains, is resurgent. Not only does the EU appear to be breaking up, countries appear about to break up. Scotland will seek a second referendum to leave the U.K. The French National Front of Marine Le Pen and the Dutch Party for Freedom both want out of the EU. As Scots seek to secede from the U.K., Catalonia seeks to secede from Spain, Veneto from Italy, and Flemish nationalists from Belgium.

In the United States, he pointed out, “millions of Democrats voted for a 74-year-old socialist against the establishment choice, Hillary Clinton, as Bush-Romney-Ryan Republicanism was massively repudiated in the Republican primaries.”

“As Trump said last week, ‘We got here because we switched from a policy of Americanism – focusing on what’s good for America’s middle class – to a policy of globalism, focusing on how to make money for large corporations who can move their wealth and workers to foreign countries all to the detriment of the American worker and the American economy.'”

The Moscow Times reported Russian President Vladimir Putin said that his nation did not interfere with the English vote.

But the Kommersant newspaper quoted Russian Academy of Sciences foreign policy expert Sergie Utkin saying, “Brexit can hardly be perceived by the Russian leadership as a negative event.”

“Brexit in the end will temper the ambitions of the European Union concerning foreign policy and encourage a more pragmatic approach to doing business with external partners, including Russia,” Utkin said.

In fact, Bloomberg reported, Putin’s spokesman said the upheaval reminded observers of the 1991 Soviet Union collapse in which more than a dozen countries emerged.

“While it’s ‘unreasonable to draw direct parallels,’ it’s obvious that the U.K. is going through a ‘turbulent, confusing and unpredictable period,’ Dmitry Peskov told reporters on a conference call Monday. Russia ‘has gone through the collapse of the Soviet Union and many generations clearly remember the period of the Soviet collapse, that period of uncertainty,'” the report said.

The Washington Post reported a British departure “will make the country poorer in the short run, perhaps in the long run too, and might drag the rest of Europe down with it.”

“That’s because Britain is essentially ripping up its free trade deal with the rest of Europe. But of far greater concern than just dollars and cents is that this is the most significant setback in Europe’s 60-year quest for ‘ever closer union,’ and the most shocking success for the new nationalism sweeping the Western world,” the report said. “Brexit, in other words, is the end of the end of history.”

Two top ratings agencies decided that Britain no longer was worthy of their top ratings. Reuters said Fitch downgraded by one notch, while Standard & Poor’s dropped it from “AAA” to “AA.”

In an April visit to the U.K., President Obama had told Britons they should vote to stay.

“The United States wants a strong United Kingdom as a partner. And the United Kingdom is at its best when it’s helping to lead a strong Europe,” he said.

Obama said if the vote was to leave, Americans would work on a trade deal with the EU, and Britain then would drop to the back of the line. He said a deal is “not going to happen anytime soon,” assuming a vote to leave.

Andrew Roberts, writing in the Wall Street Journal, had warned that Obama’s comments were a risk.

“Surely – surely – this is an issue on which the British people, and they alone, have the right to decide, without the intervention of President Obama, who adopted his haughtiest professorial manner when lecturing us to stay in the EU, before making the naked threat that we would be sent ‘to the back of the queue’ (i.e., the back of the line) in any future trade deals if we had the temerity to vote to leave.”

He continued: “Was my country at the back of the line when Winston Churchill promised in 1941 that in the event of a Japanese attack on the U.S., a British declaration of war on Japan would be made within the hour? … Were we at the back of the line on 9/11, or did we step forward immediately and instinctively as the very first of your allies to contribute troops to join you in the expulsion of the Taliban, al-Qaida’s hosts, from power in Afghanistan? … Or in Iraq two years later, was it the French or the Germans or the Belgians who stood and fought and bled beside you? Whatever views you might have over the rights or wrongs of that war, no one can deny that Britain was in its accustomed place: at the front of the line, in the firing line. So it is not right for President Obama now to threaten to send us to the back of the line.”

Following the vote, Obama quickly changed directions, saying, “The United Kingdom and the European Union will remain indispensable partners of the United States even as they begin negotiating their ongoing relationship to ensure continued stability, security, and prosperity for Europe, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the world.”

Now are being raised questions about security, the actual departure and how it will happen, what the stock markets are saying about the plan, and the British pound was down to the point speculators were wondering when it would reach parity with the U.S. dollar.

The London Independent, however, had another view:”Brexit reminds us some things are too important to be decided by the people.”

EU Army set to be agreed TONIGHT – and BRITAIN will foot the £420m-a-year bill

Brussels politicians will convene in the French city of Strasbourg to thrash out the plans that will cost taxpayers' £420m-a-year.

They will vote on the issue to establish an "EU-wide system for the coordination of rapid movement of defence forces personnel" across Europe.

If agreed Britain will not only be forced to foot the bill because it is timetabled for before the triggering of Article 50, but it will also be legally drawn into it.

An EU army is being agreed tonight in Strasbourg -with the cause being BREXIT

And bizarrely the EU claims it needs to make a position of European Defence Minister and roll out a massive army because of BREXIT.

It states: "At a time when public support for the EU is being called into question in some Member States, defence and security is an area where the individual and collective benefits of more Europe can be easily demonstrated, especially regarding the likely challenges to EU’s standing as a strategic actor following Brexit."

The report demands the EU bankroll the initiative with an immediate £76million for 'preparatory action on EU defence research' starting in 2017.

Politicians in each of the 28 member state will also be forced to hand over their own defence plans and capabilities to the EU as it probes capability.

The plans have been in the pipeline for a number of years but have repeatedly been denied by the UK government.

UKIP defence spokesman Mike Hookem, a former soldier said the super army could be potentially mobilised outside of Europe too.

And he said the proposal could pose serious consequences for the EU.

He also warned the EU Defence Union would have its own trade union meaning soldiers could go on strike and hold governments and the EU to ransom.

Italy's Prime minister Matteo Renzi (L) speaks with Luxembourg's Prime minister Xavier Bettel during the second day of an European Union leaders summit

He said: "It could threaten Britain's military readiness if it were to be dragged along in an EU Military by a political establishment trying its hardest to ignore the result of the EU referendum and leave the EU.

"There are clear security reasons why members of the Armed Forces are subject to different rules from those in civilian life: rules which were compensated for previously by governments who took the welfare of its troops and this country seriously with work and fiscal benefits.

"It is not in the country's national interests for soldiers, sailors or airmen to be able to lay down arms and ignore the chain of command because of a union decision.

"I have been on exercises with Danish troops who stopped working at 1700hrs.

"Military life does not work like that and war does not fit into a 9-5 schedule.

Mike Hookem said the super army could be potentially mobilised outside of Europe too

"It also means that often UK and US personnel have to do the bulk of the work in international organisations like SHAPE and NATO.

"If there were an EU Military with a strong trade union we could see situations which terrorists could easily take advantage of, particularly if they were based on a French style trade union system which has often brought countries to a standstill and created havoc as we all saw in Calais in the last few months."

Plans for an EU army will cost taxpayers' £420m-a-year

The UK currently has its own rapid deployment brigades called PEPS or 'Priming Equipment Packs; which includes all the scales, support and spares that that unit would require for operations.

However, Mr Hookem has warned that the two battalions earmarked for this role, 16 Air Assault Brigade and 3 Commando Brigade, cannot actually deploy at the same time.

Service Personnel in the UK Armed Forces are forbidden by the Queen's Regulations from joining a union or going on strike: regulations by which every serviceman and woman is bound.

Mr Hookem said the EU army could 'threaten Britain's military readiness'

He added: "These plans include reform of the EU battlegroups concept, aiming at the establishment of permanent units which would be independent of any lead nation and subject to systematic joint training and an EU-wide system for the coordination of the rapid movement of defence forces' personnel, equipment and supplies."

The document also calls for EU-NATO projects on communications and response including at sea, on migration, cyber security and defence as well as on exercises and bolstering defences in the 'buffer states' between the EU and Russia.

It raises the question of whether NATO countries could be called to defend EU countries which are not part of the EU.

Mr Hookem continued: "It is another demonstration of why the UK needs to detach itself from the EU and the direction in which it is heading and instead properly fund its Armed Forces and rebuild its relationship with the US whilst ending this unnecessary provocation of Russia which has not neglected its military and has vastly superior fire and man power to us."

EXCLUSIVE: The EU readies itself for war with Putin: Europe prepares to 'act where NATO is unwilling to do so' as MEP admits 'Trump is right – we rely on US too much'

European Parliament voted today on plans for closer military co-operation
Britain WOULD be able to opt out of the project and not pay towards it
MEP behind report says Donald Trump 'absolutely right' on Nato funding
Urmas Paet says Putin's aggression plays up to 'Soviet nostalgia' in Russia
Estonian who authored report says it is NOT setting up a parallel EU army
There is a separate plan for a £420million defence research programme

The European Parliament has voted in favour of plans which would cut through red tape and allow NATO forces to be deployed quicker in the event of a crisis and bolster defences against Russian aggression in eastern Europe.

A resolution which was debated in Strasbourg last night would also allow for the EU to 'act where NATO is unwilling to do so'.

It was passed today with 369 votes in favour and 255 against, with 70 abstentions.

The debate in Strasbourg comes in the wake of Donald Trump's election as US President and amid fears among European leaders that the President-Elect will reach an agreement with Vladimir Putin which could leave some EU countries vulnerable.

Trump has also said other Nato countries need to pay more for their own defence.

Gladstone Institute:The Future Of The European Union?

The European Commission has published a document outlining five scenarios for how the European Union could evolve within the next ten years. The so-called White Paper on the Future of Europe, which will be presented at the Rome Summit on March 25, 2017 to mark the 60th anniversary of the European Union, is intended to be "the starting point for a wider public debate on the future of our continent." Each of the five scenarios is based on the premise that "the 27 Member States move forward together as a Union."  The document does not consider the possibility that the EU could collapse or break apart, or even that the powers of the EU be significantly curtailed. The document states: "Too often, the discussion on Europe's future has been boiled down to a binary choice between more or less Europe. That approach is misleading and simplistic. The possibilities covered here range from the status quo, to a change of scope and priorities, to a partial or collective leap forward."..

Polish PM joins European Union heads to sign Rome declaration

The Rome Declaration that the leaders will sign proclaims that “Europe is our common future”, according to a copy obtained by AFP. It went on to pledge to bring the suddenly diminished European Union – the result of Brexit – more tightly together: “Europe is our common future. We are determined to make the European Union stronger and more resilient, through even greater unity”. “And in that sense, I’m glad that the wording of the Declaration of Rome includes the language about listening to people, about working with national governments and about striving for peace and prosperity, and opportunity in the time ahead”.

Pope Francis meets Britain’s Prince Charles at the Vatican

Britain’s Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the duchess of Cornwall, met April 4 with Pope Francis at the Vatican.

The pope and the British royals spoke privately for 27 minutes. The Vatican did not issue a statement about the topics covered in the private conversation.

Following their private meeting, Prince Charles introduced the 15 members of a delegation accompanying him. Among them was Arthur Edwards, a Catholic who has served as the official photographer of the royal household.

“He is an important man. He has followed us for 40 years,” the prince told Pope Francis.

After the presentation, Prince Charles confessed to the pope that it was “difficult to know what to give your Holiness.”

He presented the pope with a gift basket full of produce from the Royal Gardens at Highgrove, their private residence.

“It may come in handy. Somebody else might like it. It’s all homemade things I produce,” Prince Charles told the pope.

“It’s very good,” the duchess added.

For his part, Pope Francis presented Prince Charles with a bronze sculpture of an olive branch in a white box and told him that it was “a symbol of peace.”

“Wherever you go, may you be a man of peace,” he told the prince.

“I’ll do my best,” Prince Charles replied.

Pope Francis also gave the royal couple hardbound copies of two apostolic exhortations, “Amoris Laetitia” (“The Joy of Love”) and “Evangelii Gaudium” (“The Joy of the Gospel”). He also gave them a copy of “Laudato Si’, on Care for Our Common Home,” his 2015 encyclical on the environment.

“These are works of mine,” Pope Francis said, to which the prince jokingly replied: “Are they in English?”

Laughing, the pope responded, “Yes.”

“You are very generous. A great treat,” Prince Charles said.

After meeting the pope, the royal couple met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican secretary of state. According to the British embassy to the Holy See, “The environment was a theme of the visit, and His Royal Highness joined a round-table discussion with senior Holy See officials on the subject.”

Before meeting the pope, the prince and duchess were given a private tour of the Vatican Secret Archives, where they were welcomed by Archbishop Jean-Louis Brugues, archivist and librarian of the Vatican Library.

The royal couple were shown original rare documents relating to the once-complicated history between the Catholic Church and Britain.

Among the documents they were shown was the last letter written by Mary, Queen of Scots before her execution in 1587 for treason.

They were also shown a letter written in 1555 by Queen Mary I and King Philip II regarding the restoration of the Catholic Church in England.

European Union Days Away From Launching Controversial New EU Military Headquarters In Brussels
Britain has historically maintained opposition to an EU army, preferring instead to emphasise NATO over a possible joint European force. But quizzed on British involvement in light of Brexit, Mogherini made it clear that both sides expected the UK to play a full part in the plans until Brexit takes place, in 2019 – and possibly beyond.

5/19/17

European Union leaders plan to move forward with the creation of an EU military headquarters within the next few days – and warn that Britain may still be expected to take part, even after Brexit

“And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.” Revelation 17:12 (KJV)

Plans to set up a joint Military Planning and Conduct Capability (MPCC) facility, agreed by all 28 member states in March, had been stalled by British objections to the facility having an operational military role.

But speaking to reports in Brussels following a meeting of EU defence ministers on Thursday, the EU’s Foreign Affairs commissioner Federica Mogherini said the path was now clear, and plans would be progressed within the next few days.

“I understand it is finalised. I understand we have a couple of days to have the official text in place,” she said.

“Obviously, once you are not a member state you cannot take part in the decisions but you can take part” in the missions, Mogherini said.

She added that the UK is an “important military player but no way as important compared to the other 27 member states [combined].”

A statement of conclusions agreed by the ministers and released by the Council of the EU yesterday stated that the Council “looks forward to the effective establishment, as a short term objective, of the Military Planning and Conduct Capability (MPCC) within the EU Military Staff in Brussels.”

The MPCC will work “under the political control and strategic guidance of the Political and Security Committee, the document continues, and is expected to undertake “three EU Training Missions deployed in Central African Republic, Mali and Somalia” under the guidance of the “Director General of the EU Military Staff.”

The document also reiterates the Council’s commitment to the strengthening of “EU Battlegroups (EUBGs)”, which, it says “are considered to be a coherent force package capable of conducting stand-alone operations.” source

‘European Army Is Inevitable’ Says German Defense Commissioner

Speaking to the German Press Agency on Monday, Hans-Peter Bartels, the Germany Parliamentary Commissioner for the Armed Forces, called on the 28-nation bloc’s militaries to unite into a single armed force. “We are currently disorganized, technically fragmented and duplicate structures unnecessarily,” Bartels said. “We do not want to go down the solitary national path anymore. Not in Germany, not in the Netherlands, not in the Czech Republic and not in Italy.” “In the end, there will be a European army,” he stated.

Canada, EU to provisionally apply CETA in September
New date set after parties not ready for provisional application of trade agreement on Canada Day

7/8/17

Canada and the European Union have finally agreed on a date for provisional application of the oft-delayed Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement.

The provisional application of the massive deal will come into effect on Sept. 21, according to a joint-statement from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Jean-Claude Juncker, president of the European Commission, issued at the G20 summit meeting in Hamburg Saturday morning.

Speaking to reporters before leaving Germany, Trudeau said 98 per cent of the deal will come into effect on the Sept. 21 date.

"It's good news for the globe to look at examples of progressive trade deals that take into account a government's responsibility to be able to protect its citizens, protect labour standards, protect the environment, while at the same time sharing and promoting the values that we share, Canada and Europe," he said.

"I certainly am looking forward to seeing the impact that CETA will have on future trade deals between other countries where they realize that we have raised the bar in demonstrating that trade can and must work for everyone. And that is something very much reflected in the G20 communiqué."
July 1 deadlines passed

The joint statement from the two leaders says the agreement "will enter definitively into force once the parliaments in all member states of the EU ratify the text according to their respective domestic constitutional requirements."

Official DAWN OF EU ARMY: Brussels signs off military plan & hails historic day without UK

Germany and France are leading the charge for a new defence union, which aims to cement EU unity after Brexit. The campaign for a European defence union stretches back to the 1950s, although the movement has stuttered in the decades since. But EU officials are now celebrating as progress accelerates with the support of Brussels chiefs Jean-Claude Juncker, Guy Verhofstadt and Michel Barnier.

The Beatings Will Continue Until Morale Improves

The socialist entity known as the European Union wants you to know it's had it up to its bright-red kommie keister with member "states" who don't toe the party line:

EU member states that fail to live up the European Union’s democratic values could find parts of their EU subsidies being “frozen” until they mend their ways,  The Telegraph understands.

Under proposals to be unveiled in Brussels this week by Guenther Oettinger, the EU’s budget commissioner, Eastern EU states like Poland and Hungary could feel a financial squeeze if they were deemed to have failed to live up to the founding values of the EU. The move comes after pressure from liberal groups in the European Parliament and leading western powers like France and Germany, who want to find a mechanism to put pressure on recalcitrant member states.

“The precise details are still to be worked out, but the proposal will include the temporary freezing of funds in order to motivate a change of behaviour among states,” said an EU source briefed on the document. Poland and Hungary are both major recipients of EU ‘structural funds’ which are designed to narrow the gap between rich and poor member states, each receiving €5.5bn and €2.7bn respectively a year.

Not much of a surprise, this. The globalists who run Western Europe have no patience for the embarrassing vestiges of patriotism and cultural tradition evinced by Poland, Hungary, and the other former captive nations of Eastern Europe. All have histories of subservience to either the Soviet or the Muslim yoke, or both, and none wants any further part of it.

But the EU is essentially one giant socialist-atheist construct that exists solely to ease its senescent population of childless women and capon men into the grave as painlessly as possible -- Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, is the poster girl for this political program -- and it doesn't much care either about the past or, increasingly, the future of its own people. To the EU, its native populations -- thanks to birth control, abortion, irreligiousness, laziness, and ennui -- are putting themselves to sleep and the communist-raised Merkel and her ilk are just facilitating the suicide process.

Hey -- at least they have health care!

But Poland and Hungary are causing trouble and therefore must be reined in:

Sources said the threat to freeze access to funding for projects could also include agricultural subsidies, but would not include student programmes like Erasmus to avoid punishing citizens for the misdeeds of their governments. Reports also suggest that new formulas for calculating payments will mean that southern EU states, who tend to adhere closer to liberal values, will receive higher payments when the next 7-year budget cycle begins in 2021.

In effect, the EU is bribing member states with below-replacement birth rates to go to sleep quietly, while demonizing the duly elected governments of Poland and Hungary, which have essentially told them to take their Muslim and sub-Saharan African "refugees" and "migrants" and shove them elsewhere:

Tensions have deepened over the last two years after eastern EU countries refused to accept refugee resettlement quotas following the 2015 migrant crisis, and Poland introduced judicial reforms judged anti-democratic by the EU.

The recent re-election campaign of the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, which was marred by anti-semitic rhetoric, corruption scandals and warnings from OSCE election monitors about a lack of free media, only deepened concern in Brussels.  Poland is currently battling Brussels over an ‘Article 7’ disciplinary procedure for breaches of EU commitments to maintain the ‘rule of law’, but is protected from serious punishment by a Hungarian promise to veto any sanctions.

EU sources said the plan to explicitly link EU payments to democratic standards was in part driven by a French and German desire to have a less draconian and more flexible mechanism for pressuring states that were falling short. They added that the Commission would have to negotiate a system for deciding when payments would be frozen - but leading western states, like Germany, want it based on majority voting to avoid the kind of protective vetoes that have neutered the Article 7 process.

The EU was created largely to keep France and Germany from each other's throats, and thus avoid a repetition of the calamities of World Wars I and II. Now, the two former enemies have teamed up against the rest of the Continent to make sure the Second World War has a peaceful ending for each of them after all: the peace of the grave.

Merkel Urges Europe To Step Up In Trump’s New World Order

Chancellor Angela Merkel made a forceful pitch for Europe to play a more assertive role in global affairs as U.S. President Donald Trump dismantles the post-World War II order, setting the stage for a potential tense standoff at the Group of Seven summit this week.

The German leader again questioned the durability of trans-Atlantic relations by referring to eye-raising comments she made over a year ago in which she said that “the times when we could fully rely on others are to some extent over.” Those words, spoken at a beer-tent election rally, were a reaction to Trump hectoring European leaders for not spending enough on defense at a North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit in Brussels. Since then, more fuel has been added to the fire.

“That was my takeaway from the NATO summit, and in the meantime I continue to feel confirmed by my statement,” Merkel said in Munich on Wednesday, this time to a meeting of the European People’s Party, a grouping of center-right parties in the European Parliament.

In addition to the disruptive effects of the rift in NATO and Trump’s exit from the Paris global climate treaty, Merkel pointed to the fresh conflict over trade and the U.S. leader’s withdrawal from the Iran nuclear accord last month.

“All of that confirms the assessment that the world is being reorganized,” Merkel told the EPP.

The German chancellor has taken a firmer stance leading up to the two-day G-7 gathering in Canada, which starts Friday. Earlier on Wednesday, Europe’s most experienced government leader vowed to challenge Trump on trade and climate, saying the lack of room for compromise means leaders may fail to agree on a final statement.

Trump’s “America First” doctrine shows that “we have a serious problem with multilateral agreements,” Merkel told German lawmakers, adding that failure to reach common ground could lead to the highly unusual step of host Canada issuing a concluding statement not agreed to by all participants.

With Trump’s unpredictable leadership and the U.S. turn toward isolationism, Merkel said that the European Union needs to hone its response to a raft of issues in an environment in which global institutions need to be “newly proven.”

The 28-member bloc -- soon to lose the U.K. after the 2016 referendum to exit the EU -- managed to grapple with a financial meltdown and the biggest influx of refugees since World War II only with “great effort,” Merkel said. “But we don’t have a sufficient foundation to confront crises of the future,” she added, underscoring her push for reforms.

To give the region more political heft, she called for joint action on security and migration, saying the bloc should “Europeanize” its presence on the United Nations Security Council. A rotating group of about 10 member states could work with veto-power France and the European Commission in order to “speak with one European voice” on the global stage, the chancellor said.

The effort involves resolving tensions over migration. The contentious issue has driven a wedge between states calling for asylum seekers to be distributed within the bloc and those -- particularly in central and eastern Europe -- insisting migrants must be kept out.

“I’ll tell you very openly and deeply seriously, if we don’t manage to form a common response to illegal immigration, then certain foundations of the European Union will be placed in question,” Merkel said, citing freedom of movement across the EU’s borders.

European Superstate: A Massive Expansion Of Central Power Coming Soon

Former German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen has been narrowly confirmed as the next President of the European Commission, the powerful administrative arm of the European Union. An examination of von der Leyen’s policy proposals, reveals that she is calling for a massive expansion of top-down powers of the European Commission. Her proposals would substantially increase the role of Brussels in virtually all aspects of economic and social life in Europe — all at the expense of national sovereignty. She wants to build a centralized, undemocratic, updated form of Communism that will render [obsolete] nation state parliaments, where the state controls everything, where nation state parliaments will cease to have any relevance at all.
