Facebook users express fears over Posse Comitatus

An image posted on Facebook shows a C-130 cargo plane spraying mosquitoes over the Florida city of Homestead at an altitude of just 150 feet, again stoking concerns that the military is becoming an increasing presence in domestic affairs.

The photo was taken by Tico Vilarioo, who questioned why a task normally designated to state and local authorities was now being put under military control, in violation of Posse Comitatus.

“So now the Military is spraying for mosquitoes. They’re using AC130 cargo planes that fly 150 over head to spray. I was literally sprayed as I was outside cleaning and feeding the animals. Question for those that may know a little more than I do. Isn’t the State, our local government supposed to be doing this? Why is the military becoming integrated into civilian operations? Doesn’t this violate the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878? Here’s a picture I took of the plane flying over the neighbor’s house. It flew over our house three different times,” said Vilarioo.

As Infowars reported earlier this week, the spraying is being conducted not only in Homestead but also in Doral, West Sweetwater, Kendall, Florida City and areas east of U.S. 1.

As we have documented, under a myriad of operations related to law enforcement, the environment and health, Americans are being conditioned to accept the involvement of the military in domestic affairs as a routine occurrence.

The image prompted outrage from dozens of Facebook users.

“How much does this cost? What taxes does this come from, exactly? And how can this be good for human consumption?” asked one.

“The government gives no regard to the Bill of Rights or the Constitution anymore,” added another.

“This is terrible! It’s an outrage!! Don’t believe any of it. I’m telling you!!! The only thing they want to spray is f***ing poison,” ranted another.

Why is the military becoming integrated into civilian operations? Doesn’t this violate the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878?

Nothing wrong with the military and civilians working on things together. No, it is not a violation as I see it. The Posse Comitatus Act is very specific as to what the military cannot do, which is police actions on domestic soil, and even then under Martial Law, the military can be involved in police work to the extent of regaining order.

And there is no restrictions on the military being involved in helping in a disaster. And I interpret that as meaning unarmed, leave the guns back at the barracks and start filling sand bags or looking for survivors, etc.

But they cannot be doing police work in disasters like they did during Katrina. And disarming citizens? No way. For that stuff, it's got to be under Martial Law, and not just a "national emergency" or some major storm. I believe even then it must be full blown serious martial law conditions, like a forgeign invasion, or major uprising nationally, or something similar in seriousness in relation to the possibility of it affecting the operation of government in some way.

Katrina was real bad, but could have been much less, and it surely did not warrant any kind of martial law. What they needed then was competent people running things. We have plenty of civilian police and emergency personel to handle that kind of thing. We might use military trucks for moving supplies or something (seeing it's the public's equipment anyway!), but that's it. We even have many people who would be willing to work for a fair wage for a time to help out in disasters rather than taking military away from their jobs, like guarding the national borders!
