Palestinian Leader Denies Jewish Temple and Christian Theology

Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas frequently refers to the “alleged” Jewish Temple, but if it was not Jewish, there is no basis for Christian belief, as written in the New Testament in Matthew (21:12), that Jewish “moneychangers" chased Jesus from the Holy Temple. However, Christians so far have not reacted to the implicit denial of their belief. The PA campaign to eradicate Jewish history at the Temple Mount , as well as in the rest of Israel, has escalated sharply in the past two years. Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) documented and translated statements from Palestinian Authority leaders, including Abbas, his advisor Ahmad Al-Ruweidi, clerics and ministers, all of whom used the term "alleged Temple" 97 times in 2011 and 2012.   PMW pointed out that the number 97 refers only to the term “alleged Temple” and does not include thousands of other denials of  the existence of the Temples....

UNESCO to vote on resolutions ignoring Jewish ties to Temple Mount

UNESCO is slated to vote twice this month on Palestinian initiated resolutions that ignore Jewish ties to its most holy religious site of the Temple Mount and the Western Wall area in Jerusalem. The first of these votes will be taken on Thursday or Friday of this week by the 58-member Executive Board of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization in Paris.

UNESCO: Jews have no connection to Jerusalem

The United Nations body passes resolution put forth by the Palestinians denying all connection between Jews, Jerusalem and the Temple Mount; Netanyahu: 'To say that Israel has no connection to the Temple Mount and Western Wall is like saying China has no connection to the Great Wall.'

UNESCO has decided that there is no Jewish connection to Jerusalem and the Temple Mount following a Palestinian initiative on Thursday.

There were 26 countries who abstained from the vote, including Serbia and Turkmenistan, while 24 countries supported the initiative and six voted against it. It should be noted that not a single European nation voted for the initiative.

The countries of France, Sweden, Slovenia, India, Argentina, and Togo at first were going to vote for the resolution saying that Jews have no connection to Jerusalem, but were convinced to abstain from voting in the end.

The US, UK, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Estonia, and Germany voted against the Palestinian backed resolution.

In an unusual move, Israel sought the Holy See's help in forestalling UNESCO's adopting a Palestinian recommendation to deny any Jewish affiliation with Jerusalem and the Temple Mount Thursday afternoon, arguing that it will also harm Christians.

The Palestinians have demanded that an international delegation experts be sent to the holy sites to examine what they have described as the destruction of historical and archeological heritage by Israel. They allege that this has been carried out in a variety of manners, including the building of the Jerusalem light rail and archeological excavations.

Israel, along with the United States, has been working in recent weeks to reduce the majority support within UNESCO's executive board. France, which supported the Palestinians in April, has promised to vote against this proposal.

The Palestinians are seeking, inter alia, to appoint a UNESCO permanent observer in Jerusalem and to appoint a series of condemnations of Israeli activities, such as the alleged demolition of a school in Kfar Adumim. (Israel claims that it was a dilapidated caravan that was destroyed and "not a school."

Bibi responded to the decision, saying “The theatre of the absurd continues with UNESCO and today the organization has made its most bizarre decision by saying the people of Israel have no connection to the Temple Mount and the Western Wall.”

“Obviously they have never read the Bible, he said, “but I would advise UNESCO members to visit the Arch of Titus in Rome, where they can see what the Romans brought to Rome after they destroyed and looted the Temple Mount two thousand years ago. One can see engraved on the arch the seven-branched menorah, which is the symbol of the Jewish people as well as the symbol of the Jewish State today.”

“Surely UNESCO will say that Emperor Titus was a part of Zionist propaganda,” he continued.

“To say that Israel has no connection to the Temple Mount and Western Wall is like saying China has no connection to the Great Wall of China or Egypt has no connection to the pyramids. With this absurd decision, UNESCO has lost what little legitimacy it once had. However, I believe that the historical truth will prevail,” he ended.

Minister of Justice Ayelet Shaked added that “the UN is breaking its own record for ignorance and anti-Semitism. An organization that purports to present science and education instead presents the rotten politics of dictatorial Islamic countries. Instead of enlightened Western countries leading the organization, some are blindly following the shameful decision.”

Israel's permanent delegate to UNESCO, Amb. Carmel Shama Hacohen, commented, "Israel and the Jewish people don't require UNESCO's or any other country's confirmation of the special connection between the Jewish people and the State of Israel and Jerusalem in general and the holy sites therein like the Western Wall and the Temple Mount in particular."

The ambassador continued, "There is no connection of another people to another place in the world that comes close to the strength and depth of our connection to Jerusalem from a religious, historical and national perspective, a connection that has stood the test of 2,000 years."

President Reuven Rivlin commented on Thursday morning, "There is no festival more connected to Jerusalem than Sukkot. The festivals of Israel all highlight the inextricable bond between our people and our land, and no forum or body in the world can come and deny the connection between the Jewish people, the Land of Israel and Jerusalem—and any such body that does so simply embarrasses itself." Rivlin added, "We can understand criticism, but you cannot change history".

hama Hacohen conceded that the Palestinians enjoy an automatic majority of support and explained that his goal was to expand as much as possible the number of those opposed. "We are mobilizing to erode and drive a wedge in the automatic majority that has stood against us for the past two years," he explained. "The efforts are indeed bearing fruit: From the situation we were in when only the USA voted for us alone, we've gradually increased the number to six countries and also increased the number of abstainers.

US Permanent Delegate to UNESCO Amb. Crystal Nix-Hines has explained in the past to UNESCO's executive board that unilateral decisions on the Middle East have made it harder for the American administration to resume paying its UNESCO membership fees. Shama Hacohen explained that the US Congress has blocked President Barack Obama's efforts to resume the payments, some €80 million per annum, as both the Republicans and Democrats have opposed UNESCO's decisions regarding Jerusalem.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released a pamphlet of the historical Jewish connection to Jerusalem, which has been distributed to all 120 permanent delegates to UNESCO whose countries have diplomatic relations with Israel.

PM: UNESCO theater of the absurd continues

PM Netanyahu told UNESCO members to visit the Arch of Titus and see which treasures were plundered 2000 years ago from the Temple.

PM Netanyahu responded sharply to the scandalous UNESCO decision denying any Jewish connection to Temple Mount by inviting UNESCO members to visit the Arch of Titus and see for themselves which treasures were plundered 2000 years ago from the Temple.

Netanyahu was speaking at a Bible forum which took place at his house. He said that "The UNESCO theater show goes on. Today it took a ridiculous decision denying the connection between the Jewish people and the Western Wall.

"It's like saying that the Chinese have no connection to the Great Wall of China and the Egyptians have no connection to the pyramids," added Netanyahu.

Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein also spoke out against the UN after its decision to deny Jewish connection to Temple mount and Western Wall, saying that the UN is "disconnected from reality and history."

The UNESCO resolution was approved by 24 countries, among them Russia and China with whom Israel had recently prided itself on strengthening ties with them. 6 countries opposed the resolution- the US as well as Germany, Holland, Britain, Estonia and Lithuania.

In the conference convened today by the governing body of UNESCO, the Palestinians with the support of many Arab countries promoted a decision claiming that Temple Mount, mentioned only in Arabic as 'Haram a-Sharif" and not by its Jewish name, is a site holy to Moslems alone.

The Western Wall was also referred to by its Arab name with the Hebrew name only appearing in quotes in the decision. This, according to Israeli diplomats, reveals that the international community has no intention even of recognizing the holiness of the Western Wall to the Jewish nation.

In order to present the decision as partially balanced, the Palestinians included a clause saying that they recognize Jerusalem in general as holy to three religions according to the following order:Islam, Christianity and Judaism.

Israeli leaders condemn U.N. resolution on Jerusalem holy site

Israeli politicians reacted angrily to a resolution approved Thursday by the U.N. cultural agency that criticizes Israel’s actions in and around Jerusalem’s holiest site and fails to explicitly refer to the Jewish connection to the place.

The UNESCO resolution, which was submitted by seven Arab countries at a meeting in Paris, highlights a long list of what it called Israeli violations of the Haram al-Sharif and al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam’s third-holiest site after Mecca and Medina, and other Muslim holy sites in the West Bank.

The document outlines Israeli refusal to implement previous decisions by UNESCO concerning Jerusalem and to appoint a permanent representative of the organization to be stationed there. It also criticizes Israel’s “persistent excavations” in East Jerusalem particularly in the Old City and its failure to allow free access to the mosque.

While acknowledging that the “Old City of Jerusalem and its Walls” are important for “the three monotheistic religions” — Judaism, Islam and Christianity — the resolution stops short of mentioning the significance of the site, where two Jewish temples are believed to have once stood, as holy to Jews.

Israeli politicians and U.S. Jewish leaders lashed out at the resolution for its failure to mention the Jewish connection to the Temple Mount or the Western Wall, Jewish terms for the same site, which is considered the holiest in Judaism.

The resolution requires final approval from UNESCO’s executive board during its official plenary next week.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization was created to protect world heritage sites of “outstanding universal value,” among other things.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Facebook that the UNESCO decision was “absurd.”

“Today UNESCO adopted its second decision this year denying the Jewish people’s connection to the Temple Mount, our holiest site for over three thousand years. What’s next? A UNESCO decision denying the connection between peanut butter and jelly? Batman and Robin? Rock and roll?” he said.

Israel’s ambassador to UNESCO, Carmel Shama Hacohen, said, “Israel and the Jewish people do not need UNESCO or any other country to approve the unique connection between the Jewish people and the State of Israel and Jerusalem in general and its holy places like the Western Wall and the Temple Mount in particular.”

The resolution was backed by 24 countries. Six opposed it, 26 abstained and two were not present. The United States is not a party to UNESCO.

The resolution focuses on alleged Israeli shortcomings in allowing access for Muslims to the mosque, excavations around the specific site and in Jerusalem in general and changes to its facade. It calls on Israel, which the U.N. sees as an occupying power in the part of Jerusalem where the Old City sits, to restore the historic status quo at the site and condemned Israeli “aggressions and illegal measures against the Awqaf Department,” the Muslim body charged with caring for the holy site.

Palestinian leaders welcomed the resolution.

“Israel always claims we focus on the religious arguments, but we are not denying any religious connection. The third paragraph of the resolution recognizes the historic importance for the three monotheistic religions,” said Mounir Anastas, the Palestinian ambassador to UNESCO.

“UNESCO has been asking Israel since 1968, one year after the occupation started, to stop its excavations and archaeological work in all areas of Jerusalem,” he said. “UNESCO has asked repeatedly for Israel to allow a technical mission to Jerusalem, not a political mission, to report on the state of conservation in the city but it is always denied.”

UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova has spoken out against such resolutions in the past. Last July, she wrote in a statement that “the heritage of Jerusalem is indivisible, and each of its communities have a right to the explicit recognition of their history and relationship with the city.”

Bennett suspends Israeli cooperation with UNESCO after Temple Mount vote

Education Minister Nafatali Bennett decided Friday morning to immediately freeze all Israeli cooperation with UNESCO, because of its decision to declare top Jewish holy sites Muslim. Due to Bennett's decision there will be no meetings with UNESCO officials, cooperation in international conference or professional cooperation with the organization.

Site Where Romans Breached Jerusalem Walls is Pinpointed

The site where, nearly 2,000 years ago, the Roman army breached the outer walls of ancient Jerusalem before capturing the city and destroying the Second Jewish Temple has been discovered, the Israel Antiquities Authority says.

Archaeologists made the discovery last winter during an exploratory survey at a future construction site, the IAA said on Thursday (Oct. 20).

After expanding the excavation archaeologists discovered the remains of a tower jutting from what they believe was the Third Wall, the outermost wall surrounding Jerusalem at the end of the Second Temple period.

Opposite the tower’s western facade they found dozens of catapults and stones the archaeologists are certain were used by the Romans, led by Titus, against the Jewish guards who defended the wall from the tower.

Rina Avner, one of the lead archaeologists, told RNS that the discoveries confirm a detailed account of the battle by the contemporary historian Josephus.

“We found pottery from the Second Temple period within the cement of the wall, which was on the same level as the balustrades. We dated the embedded pottery to 70 A.D., the year Josephus said the Romans attacked the city and destroyed the Second Temple, forcing the Jews into exile.

“We were able to cross-reference our finds with the writings of Josephus. It was amazing,” Avner said.

The find comes amid an outcry over a recent resolution by UNESCO that ignores Jewish and Christian ties to the Temple Mount and refers exclusively, as Muslims do, to the Haram al-Sharif, or Noble Sanctuary.

The archaeologist said the latest discoveries add to the large volume of other proof that Jews lived in Jerusalem thousands of years ago.

The UNESCO resolution “erases history and actually tries to destroy our past and the Christians’ past,” Avner said.

Ancient Muslim Inscription Confirms Dome of the Rock’s Jewish Temple Origin

The ninth annual conference on archaeological discoveries in Jerusalem and its environs that was held at the Hebrew University this week revealed the existence of an ancient Muslim inscription testifying to the fact that the original name of the Dome of the Rock, Qubbat al-Sakhrah, was “Beit al Maqdis” بيت المقدس — “Beit Hamikdash” in Hebrew, aka the Jewish Temple — during the early Muslim era, Makor Rishon reported Friday.

According to archaeologists Assaf Avraham and Peretz Reuven, the inscription is dated to the 10th century CE, about a thousand years ago. It is located above a mihrab-prayer niche inside an active mosque in the village of Nuba, located seven miles north-west of Hebron. It is unknown when it was placed there, but it certainly throws a fresh light on the process by which Jerusalem became holy to the Muslims and the inspiration that Islam drew from Jewish sources regarding the holiness of the Temple Mount compound and the Jewish temple that once stood at the spot where today stands the Dome of the Rock shrine.

Participants in the Jerusalem conference were particularly excited by this revelation in light of two recent UNESCO resolutions which disavowed any connection between Jewish history and the Temple Mount. One participant reminded the forum that the Mufti of Jerusalem already admitted that the Dome of the Rock stands on the same spot as Solomon’s Temple, “but here we have an archaeological find that proves it,” he said.

According to both researchers, in the early Muslim era the Dome of the Rock was the site of worship services that were influenced by the ceremonies of the Jerusalem Temple: cleansing, incense, anointing the Foundation Stone with oil and surrounding it with curtains inspired by the divine parochet. The shrine, built around the Foundation Stone, just like the two Jewish Temples, was completed in 691 CE, by an architect named Yazid Ibn Salam, who was either Jewish himself or had Jewish aides.

There is a theory that Umayyad Caliph Abd al-Malik originally had the Dome of the Rock built as a shrine for the Jews, while Al Aqsa, the mosque on the southern end of the Temple Mount, was built for Muslims.

There is a trend where Muslims have recently begun referring to the entire Temple Mount compound, which they also call al-Haram ash-Sharif (“The Noble Compound”), as Al Aqsa.

International mayors denounce UNESCO for ignoring Jewish ties to Temple Mount

International mayors denounce UNESCO for ignoring Jewish ties to Temple Mount

An international delegation of mayors presented a resolution to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday, decrying the recent UNESCO resolution that denies Jewish and Christian ties to the Temple Mount.

The resolution states that UNESCO must cease to repeatedly exacerbate tensions.

"In recent days, UNESCO joined the community of deniers by voting in a secret ballot that Jews and Christians have no connection to the Old City of Jerusalem, and referencing religious sites there by only their Arab name," states the letter, signed by 20 of the vising 21 mayors.

The mayors, who are in Israel to attend the American Jewish Congress' annual Mayors Conference, stated their resolve to "work to end politically inspired falsehood and distortion, and to speak truth about all relevant history."

The delegation is led by AJCongress President and American Council for World Jewry Chairman Jack Rosen. The mayors in the delegation hail from cities across five different continents, including Beverly Hills and Miami Beach (US), Lviv (Ukraine), San Miguelito (Panama), Homabay County (Kenya), Dar e Salam (Tanzania), George (South Africa) and Viseu (Portugal).

This is the 31st year AJCongress has held this event. Rosen explained that the idea behind the delegation is to bring to Israel potential future decision makers who can have an impact in their countries.

"We try to choose mayors who will have a political platform," he told The Jerusalem Post, noting that two years ago Argentinian President Mauricio Macri was in the delegation, and the year before that Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.

The organization strives to show the mayors a side of Israel they can't read about in the news. "To see facts on the ground, so that they be a voice of reason concerning issues surrounding Israel," Rosen says.

The AJCongress has been leading a science diplomacy initiative working with Israeli companies and political leaders to advance Israel's case to the world through showcasing technology and innovation.

"It is not just about hard politics but also about smart technologies, science and innovation," Rosen said. "We are working with key figures in Israel such as MK Erel Margalit and Prime Minister Netanyahu to make this happen." J

John Mirisch, Mayor of Beverly Hills described the visit as a “wonderful way for mayors from around the world to understand not only the history of Israel but the future of Israel and how important Israeli tech is within what we consider to be disruptive technologies of today. Not only is it a great place to do business but a wonderful asset to the world in terms of the development of technologies.”

"I can take a lot from here," said Melvin Naik, Mayor of George (South Africa)."I would like to connect with Israelis and take some of the expertise back home.”

Palestinian Terrorists Open Fire Killing 2 Israeli Policemen On The Temple Mount In Capital City Of Jerusalem
The Muslim terror attack from within the contested shrine, revered by both Muslims and Jews, raised new concerns about an escalation of violence. The sacred compound sits at the fault line of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and has triggered major confrontations in the past.

Three Palestinian assailants opened fire on Israeli police from inside the Temple Mount in Jerusalem Friday, killing two officers before being shot dead, police said.

The Muslim terror attack from within the contested shrine, revered by both Muslims and Jews, raised new concerns about an escalation of violence. The sacred compound sits at the fault line of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and has triggered major confrontations in the past.

Israel closed the site, known to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary and to Jews as the Temple Mount, for further weapons sweeps Friday. The closure meant a cancellation of noon prayers, which typically draw tens of thousands of Muslims from Israel and the Israeli-occupied West Bank to the compound on Fridays.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu quickly tried to allay Muslim fears, saying that the status quo at the Muslim-administered site “will be preserved.”

http://www.nowtheendbegins.com/palestinian-professor-says-jews-no-ties-temple-mount-israeli-capital-city-jerusalem/
Palestinian Professor Says “Jews Have No Ties” To The Temple Mount In Israeli Capital City Of Jerusalem
According to al-Sousi, “The Jews have no right to the place. The claims that the temples were located there have been religiously and historically proven as false claims. The prophet Moses also never entered the historical land of Palestine. He arrived in the area of the border between today’s Jordan and Palestine, but didn’t enter. So, the legend of the temple has no connection to reality and all the claims of the Jews are forfeit.”

7/16/17

Rejecting archeological evidence, the historic record and accepted fact, Maher al-Sousi, a lecturer at the Islamic University of Gaza, claimed that the Jewish temples were never located on the Temple Mount and that Jews have no right to the holiest site in Judaism.

“And said unto him, Take these vessels, go, carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in his place.” Ezra 5:15 (KJV)

EDITOR’S NOTE: First, Palestinian assassins killed two Israeli policemen in a cold-blooded, unprovoked attack and gravely injured a third. Then, when Netanyahu was forced to close the Temple Mount to guarantee the safety of Israeli citizens, Israel was blasted as an “aggressor” persecuting the poor, mistreated Palestinians. Now, despite over 3,000 years of Jewish history having taken place in Jerusalem and on the Temple Mount, the new narrative is that Jews were “never there”, and that they are “stealing the land” that “rightfully belongs” to the mythical “Palestinians”. With logic like that, it’s hard to tell the difference between the Palestinians and the DNC.

Al-Susi was speaking after Friday’s deadly Palestinian terrorist attack at the Temple Mount.

Two Israeli Border Police Officers were murdered and a third was wounded on Friday when three Palestinian terrorists opened fire at security forces near an entrance to the Temple Mount at the Lions Gate and then fled into the Mount complex.  The Palestinian assailants, reportedly carrying two rifles and a pistol, were pursued by Israeli forces and were shot and killed as they tried to escape toward the mosques on the Mount.
The murder of two Israeli policemen is what sparked the most recent Temple Mount closing:

Addressing the terrorist attack, al-Sousi claimed, “The entry of Jews into the mosques and the attempt to change the status quo is what pushed these young people to carry out the attack. These young men were committed to protecting the holiness of the place because of its central place in Islam and in the hearts of all Muslims.”
Jews do not enter the mosques on the Temple Mount, as they are banned from doing so by the site’s Waqf Islamic custodians.

Friday’s attack occurred less than two weeks after the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) passed an anti-Israel resolution declaring Jerusalem’s Old City and its ancient walls “occupied” and listed the areas as Palestinian heritage sites in “danger.”

The terrorist attack also took place one week after UNESCO passed another anti-Israel resolution regarding the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron – considered the second holiest site in Judaism after the Temple Mount – claiming the tomb is a “Palestinian” world heritage site in danger.

Al-Sousi stated, “UNESCO’s decisions regarding the absence of the Jews’ rights to Hebron and Jerusalem prove what we are saying about the legend of the temples being false and that Jews have no historic roots in Palestine. This is known.”
Al-Sousi is not alone in making the false claim that there are no Jewish ties to the Temple Mount. Such views are mainstream in Palestinian society.

In a Breitbart Jerusalem interview last year, Khaled Elkhaldi, a professor at Gaza’s Islamic University, completely denied Jewish ties to the Temple Mount.

In 2007, Breitbart’s Aaron Klein conducted an exclusive video interview with Waqf official and chief Palestinian cleric Taysir Tamimi, who used the occasion to claim the Jewish Temples “never existed” and the Western Wall was really a hitching post for Muhammad’s horse.

Excavations near the Mount routinely uncover archaeological evidence further tying Jews to Jerusalem and the Temple Mount. For example, discoveries at the City of David, an archeological site just outside the Mount, have unearthed the core of ancient Jerusalem, including Hezekiah’s Tunnel, evidence of the Gihon Spring, Jewish Temple artifacts, Temple purifying pools and more.
Jerusalem: 4000 Years in 5 Minutes

Not only are these Muslim scholars’ claims about the lack of evidence tying Jews to the Temple Mount false, the Islamic scholar glossed over the Palestinians’ own complicity in disposing of Jewish temple artifacts.

As Klein previously reported: In 1997, the Waqf conducted a large dig on the Temple Mount during construction of a massive mosque at an area referred to as Solomon’s Stables. The Wafq at the time disposed of truckloads of dirt containing Jewish artifacts from the First and Second Temple periods.

After the media reported the disposals, Israeli authorities froze the construction permit given to the Waqf and the dirt was transferred to Israeli archaeologists for analysis. The Israeli authorities found scores of Jewish Temple relics in the nearly disposed dirt, including coins with Hebrew writing referencing the Temple, part of a Hasmonean lamp, several other Second Temple lamps, Temple-period pottery with Jewish markings, a marble pillar shaft, and other Temple-period artifacts.

The Waqf was widely accused of attempting to hide evidence of the existence of the Jewish Temples.

And in 2007, Klein personally reported from the site of an unusual dig on the Temple Mount in which the Waqf utilized heavy machinery to dig in one of the most sensitive archaeological compounds in the world and were once again caught red-handed destroying Temple-era antiquities. source

Temple Mount In Jerusalem On High Alert As Palestinians Violently Call For ‘Day Of Rage’ Against Jews
Muslim leaders and Palestinian political factions have urged the faithful to gather for a "day of rage" against the new security policies, which they see as changing delicate agreements that have governed the holy site for decades.

7/21/17

Israel bolstered security in the Old City of Jerusalem on Friday and prepared for possible clashes with Muslim worshippers after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided metal detectors at a sensitive holy site would not be removed.

“And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.” Zechariah 12:3 (KJV)

EDITOR’S NOTE: The prophets from both Testaments declare that in the end times, Jerusalem will be the most hotly-contested and violently fought over city on the face of the Earth. In 2017, 2 thousand years after the writing of the last prophecy, it’s coming true right on the button. The Battle of Armageddon, which will be fought in the time of Jacob’s trouble after the Rapture of the Church, will be a battle between Satan and Jesus over who owns it. Wanna guess who wins?

There have been daily confrontations between Palestinians hurling rocks and Israeli police using stun grenades since the detectors were placed at the entrance to the shrine, known to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary and to Jews as Temple Mount, on Sunday, after the killing of two Israeli policemen.

Muslim leaders and Palestinian political factions have urged the faithful to gather for a ‘day of rage’ against the new security policies, which they see as changing delicate agreements that have governed the holy site for decades.

The Israeli police said extra units had been mobilised to bolster security in the Old City, while Muslim access to the shrine for prayers would be limited to women of all ages and men over 50. Roadblocks were in place on approach roads to Jerusalem to stop buses carrying Muslims to the site.
Temple Mount: Protests break out amid tensions

“Police are coordinating to enable Friday prayers to take place and at the same time security measures are taking place,” spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.

The Noble Sanctuary-Temple Mount compound, containing the Dome of the Rock and the Aqsa Mosque, has long been a source of religious friction. Since Israel captured and annexed the Old City, including the compound, in the 1967 Middle East war, it has also become a symbol of Palestinian nationalism.

On Thursday, there were calls for Netanyahu to back down and remove the metal detectors so as not to inflame the situation. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, after discussing the issue with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, called Israeli President Reuven Rivlin to press for their removal.

Nickolay Mladenov, the United Nations’ special coordinator for long-stalled Israel-Palestinian peace talks, appealed for calm and the White House urged a resolution. Jordan, which is the ultimate custodian of the holy site, has also been involved in mediation efforts.

But after a late-night meeting of his security cabinet, Netanyahu decided the metal detectors should stay. Officials said they were necessary to ensure Palestinians and Israeli-Arabs do not smuggle weapons into the holy compound.

Far-right members of Netanyahu’s government – which relies on religious and right-wing parties for support – had publicly urged him to keep the devices in place.

“Israel is committed to maintaining the status quo at the Temple Mount and the freedom of access to the holy places,” the security cabinet said in a statement.

“The cabinet has authorised the police to take any decision in order ensure free access to the holy places while maintaining security and public order.”

Tensions around the Noble Sanctuary-Temple Mount have erupted into violence in the past.

In 2000, after then Israeli opposition leader Ariel Sharon visited, Palestinians took it as a provocation. It led to clashes that spiralled into the second Intifada, when an estimated 1,000 Israelis and some 3,000 Palestinians were killed over four years of violence.

As well as anger at having to submit to Israeli security policies, Palestinians are alarmed at what they see as the slow chipping away at the status quo at the Noble Sanctuary.

Since Ottoman times, while Jews are permitted to visit the area – considered the holiest place in Judaism, where an ancient temple once stood – only Muslims are allowed to pray.

Over the past decade, however, visits by religious-nationalist Jews have increased sharply and some attempt to pray. While police are supposed to eject them if they do, the rules are not always enforced, fueling Muslim anger. source
