Transgender bully cause of legal complaint

A California legal group says officials are placing students at risk by allowing students to choose their own sexuality.

Murrieta-based Advocates for Faith & Freedom is defending clients against a trend that California public schools may soon adopt.

One such client is a high school sophomore girl who recently transferred to a charter school in Los Angeles. She felt uncomfortable because she shared a locker area with a male student who identifies himself as a female.

Bob Tyler, general counsel with Advocates, says their client claims the male student would often watch her change, comment on her appearance and touch her hair.

"There's a disturbing trend in California to recognize the identity claimed by students for their gender -- not what they were born with, not what their [biological] makeup can establish, but what they claim themselves to feel like," Tyler reports. "As a result, California public schools are putting so many kids at risk, particularly young women being forced to share locker rooms with young men."

Since the girl felt uncomfortable, she began sharing lockers with another female student. That is when the client started to be bullied by the male student and his friend, who would reportedly harass her verbally and even physically intimidate her.

The California Legislature is currently considering a bill that would allow students to join sex-segregated facilities and sports teams of the sex they choose.
