The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. Luke 10:25-37 (New International Version)

New International Version (NIV)
The Parable of the Good Samaritan

25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”

27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[a]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[c] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”

37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

----------------------------------------------

So what is Jesus teaching us here? Lets break it down a little.

29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

Who is your neighbor? Is it the person living next door? The man or woman you bump into on the street? Maybe, but maybe not!

From what we have read above not everyone is your neighbor. Not everyone that comes across your path in your journey of life is your neighbor or friend!

How do we know this? Lets read on and find out.

33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.

What or who was a Samaritan?

According to Wikipedia a Samaritan is someone who believes this:
"Sumerians believed their world was controlled by gods, goddesses, demons, and monsters. Just like Egyptians, Sumerians thought each god or goddess was responsible for one thing, like the rivers and trees, pottery and bread etc.."

So the man that stopped and helped didn't really believe in a single deity (One God) he believed much like the modern day wickens. Samaritans are what as known as "Polytheism" believing in multiple Gods.

Before we can continue we should look at some of the other characters from the parable.

Who were the others that passed the man by?

(1)  A Priest
(2)  A Levite

(1) First let's look at the priest. We all know what a priest is, right?

In biblical time a priests and even levites were to avoid uncleanness and to remain ritually clean.
Since they may have assumed that the man may have been dead they passed him by, not bothering to stop and check if he was dead. How awful!

(2) Next is the Levite. Who were some other Levites and what did the believe?

Moses and his brother, Aaron, were both Levites. We alos have, Miriam, Samuel, Ezekiel, Ezra, Malachi, John the Baptist, Mark the Evangelist, Matthew the Evangelist, and Barnabas

In Egypt the Levites were the only tribe that remained committed to God

These were Jewish people, Gods chosen people (Jesus was a Jew) and they didn't stop to help this dying man by the road side! All for the sake of remaining ritually clean. God forbid that should happen!

--------------------------------------------
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”

So which one is your neighbor? The Levite, The Priest, or the Samaritan?

Lets have a look.

37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

And Jesus Said...

If you said the Samaritan, your right!

We know not all who cross are path are our neighbors, and that we should not be so trusting of others. Maybe we should not be mean or unkind to others but that doesn't mean we should gullible or foolish either.

Just because one is a priest, a religious figure or even a neighbor that lives next door who think we know doesn't mean they are our real friend or "neighbor". In fact they may be the complete opposite!

Matthew 10:16
Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

Not everyone that crosses your path in life is your true friend, some are only out for them selves.
I know I'm truly blessed to have married into a family that has given me a real second chance at life and made me see what a true "neighbor" is and how God's love really does exist. How they have given me a family that I never thought I could have or even deserved.

Friends are a dime a dozen, true friends are few and far between.

God bless you all!

Please only use the Word of God, not the satan inspired catholic NIV. This is an AV site.

and i would NOT use Wikipedia, especially if they are claiming that the Samaritans are the Sumerians.   Cheesy that is so funny.

I'm going to leave this post up for all to see, and I'm going to give you a temporary ban to let you think about your recent actions loneranger.

We have, I particularly have, researched bible versions and especially the KJB, and there is no doubt the NIV is a satanic false book, period. You don't agree, go somewhere else. We are NOT flexible about this topic, nor will we tolerate another Jesus being brought in to our house. Check out the bible history threads. The research is there for all to see and verify.

In my book, that's two (2) strikes loneranger. One more and your gone.
