No, I am NOT trying to recommend everyone to do so. In light of the news that broke over the last week - Rick Warren's son committing suicide, and then claiming his son bought an unregistered firearm with no serial number over the internet...

How to Purchase Firearms over the Internet

There are many sites on the internet selling firearms. Federal laws only allow firearms to be shipped ONLY to licensed dealers (FFL holders) and in some instances to licensed collectors. Firearms that are classified as Curios and Relics (C&R) can be shipped to C&R License holders. Buying a firearm on the internet requires that you have it shipped to a licensed dealer and requires that the receiving dealer have you fill out the appropriate paperwork (Form 4473) and wait the required waiting period for your jurisdiction. Individuals can ship firearms to licensed dealers ONLY. This should not be a problem as there are more than 80,000 licensed dealers in the United States. Under no circumstances can an individual legally ship a firearm directly to another individual.

I'll admit, I had no idea about this until I was reading the comments section in the Yahoo news article - amazing how even we(and I) can be destroyed over a lack of knowledge concerning these things!

Well, if you not a gun owner, then you have little need for such info, so not surprising really. But yeah, when shipping guns, it's got to involve a person with a FFL (Federal Firearms License). The details vary state to state.

The big wrench in the works is the federal government. Take away all the federal involvement in guns and what do you have? States making their own decisions, which they have all along in effect. It's the federal level that has wiggled it's way into the discussion that they have no part in.

Consider that if the federal government is your enemy in some kind of political takeover by a dictator, how do the citizens expect to defend themselves if they disagree with the invading regime? The Constitution makes that very clear how; the militia, and by not giving the federal government the right to meddle in state affairs.

The right to keep and bear arms is that of the people. It does not apply to the military only, like the "FEDERAL" government wants the citizens to believe. The very ones (federal government) that the 2nd Amendment is designed to protect citizens against is trying to strip the citizens of their right to keep and bear arms. How can anyone think that's constitutional? Roll Eyes
