White House is attacked in two new movies

When is the White House not under attack?

True, the terrorists who lay siege to the Oval Office in "Olympus Has Fallen," opening Friday, and the suspiciously similar thriller "White House Down," opening June 28, play a bit rougher than the Democrats or Republicans who – depending on the administration – attack it on ordinary occasions.

So do the aliens, mutants and super-villains who, from time to time in Hollywood history, have taken up residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. But behind them all is a common notion: The White House represents U.S. prestige and policy. To take a swipe at it is to hit U.S. power – literally — where it lives.

"Independence Day," the hit 1996 alien-invasion thriller, didn't choose its iconic poster image of a gigantic flying saucer hovering over the South Lawn, alien beams blasting, by accident.

It was the most appalling vision imaginable: shocking, not only as an image of destruction, but because of what was being destroyed. And it had the added value of versatility. It pushed patriotic buttons for American audiences, while conceivably tripping other switches for some overseas viewers ("Independence Day" made 62.5 percent of its profits abroad), not all of whom are in such sympathy with American interests.

So attacking the White House, from a box-office standpoint, is always a good idea. In fact, it's so good that this year Hollywood is doing it twice. As with last year's dueling Snow Whites ("Mirror Mirror" and "Snow White and the Huntsman") or 1998's dueling meteors ("Deep Impact" and "Armageddon"), "Olympus Has Fallen" and "White House Down" is an instance of great movie minds thinking alike.

Both films posit presidents (Aaron Eckhart in "Olympus," Jamie Foxx in "Down") being held hostage by terrorists (North Korean insurgent Rick Yune in "Olympus," home-grown paramilitarist Jason Clarke in "Down") who must be rescued by special agents (Gerard Butler in "Olympus," Channing Tatum in "Down").

Something in the air? If so, it's not new. The real-life White House has been invaded only once, by the British in 1814 – well, twice, if you count that couple who gate-crashed that state dinner in 2009. But it has a long history of assault on celluloid. Here are some key films:

* "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" (2009): Disguise expert Zartan (Arnold Vosloo) infiltrates the White House and takes the place of the president (Jonathan Pryce). Can Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans and the rest of the plastic action figures stop him? Stay tuned for "G.I. Joe: Retaliation," coming March 28.

* "X2: X-Men United" (2003): Good mutant Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming), under the control of bad human Col. Stryker (Brian Cox), infiltrates the White House in order to assassinate the president.

Hacked AP Twitter feed reporting fake White House attack rocks markets

The seven-minute drop in the Dow Jones Industrial Average touched off by a single tweet falsely claiming the White House had been bombed. It temporarily wiped out about 1 percent of the average, which can translate into millions or billions of dollars in market capitalization.
Stock prices plunged and then quickly recovered after a Twitter account belonging to the Associated Press was hacked and used to send a bogus report falsely claiming that the White House had been bombed and President Obama was injured.

"The @AP Twitter account has been suspended after it was hacked," an unaffected Twitter account belonging to the news organization confirmed. "The tweet about an attack on the White House was false."

In a testament to the power that social media has on real-world finances, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 150 points, or about 1 percent, immediately following the tweet, with other indexes reacting similarly. The Dow quickly regained the lost ground about seven minutes after the sell-off began, when the AP confirmed that the report was false.

The bogus tweet was sent from one of at least of two compromised Twitter accounts belonging to the Associated Press. Mike Baker, a reporter with the 167-year-old news organization, said the AP's mobile Twitter account was compromised as well. "The @AP hack came less than an hour after some of us received an impressively disguised phishing email," he wrote in a separate Twitter dispatch. In recent days security personnel with the news cooperative discovered malware had infected some of its computers, officials told the New York Times.

An AP spokesman said officials are working with Twitter to investigate how the accounts were hacked. Both accounts were suspended at the time of this writing.

People claiming ties with a group known as the Syrian Electronic Army took credit for the compromise and provided this screenshot, purporting to show user control over the @AP account, as proof. The same group has taken credit for compromises of Twitter accounts belonging to National Public Radio, and the CBS network.

FWIW, what came to my mind was that you know those rumored assassination plans on Obama that's been going on since he took office in 2009? Yeah, I know they've largely come from Alex Jones and the "alternative media", and yeah, I know we're not supposed to let our hearts be troubled about these things, but nonetheless when these rumors came to mind, and now they seem to want to telegraph some kind of messages in these 2 similarly plotted films...

Not that I put a lot of stock in Lindsey Williams, but a few times he said how Obama has tried to cross the line with the Illuminati minions.

Again, makes you wonder...

On the contrary, if this scenario DOES play out, just imagine how Obama's approval ratings will go through the roof, and the country will rally around him to go to war against whatever country attacked the White House.

"telegraphed". Good word choice. That's exactly what Hollywood does I think. Maybe not exactly like a movie, but it does seem things turn out similar. It's like a poker player with a "tell", you just need to be able to pick up on what that player does to give himself away, a twitchy nose, a change in voice, restless in their seat, etc.

I think you can use the word "projecting" too as part of their overall conditioning of the public to think a desired way.

OK, just saw this trailer based on one of the popular novels(Oscar Scott Card's "Ender's Game") - and pretty much what struck me about it is their THEME of indoctrinating the youth to "work together for the common good to make this world a better place"(in this case, to train them to fight the aliens).

Indoctrinating the youth has been one of the primary agendas of the Communist Manifesto, Hitler's N@zi Germany, and even present day America.

There's a movie titled "Rapture-Palooza" to hit theaters next month - not going to post the trailer here(as its full of disgusting blasphemy).

Anyhow, someone brought it to my attention recently(and thought I would share my thoughts on this) - the plotline of this movie is pretty much the lost world finally finds out the rapture of the church is real, but prior to that all they did was mock it. And now they are left behind, it's as if they are really stunned and don't know what to do. This movie is billed as a comedy, so they pretty much mock scripture throughout it.

It's not just this movie, but especially in recent years, Hollywood has churned out a number of these movies with similar plotlines - massive disappearances, and great tribulation on those left behind.(ie-2010's "Skyline")

Yes, it's true Satan's biggest weapon is deception, but nonetheless these movies are NOT marketed toward Christians, obviously.

No, don't want to start another pre vs. post trib rapture debate, but nonetheless you have to wonder if this is more predictive programming. Undecided

Just saw the first commercial for the new Jamie Fox movie, "White House Down".

And then there is the new Will Smith movie, "After Earth".

The world knows what's coming, and it's doing everything it can to distract people from the truth with all those disaster movies.

I was watching an episode of "Matlock" a couple of weeks ago(a 1980's tv series starring Andy Griffith as a defense lawyer representing innocent people), and there was a part in that show where they talked about how a gun was "unregistered".

It's not just this particular episode in this tv show, but for years and years and years, there's been countless movies, tv shows, and other entertainment media where they would make this passing comment about "unregistered" guns.

OK, what is WRONG with this picture? While firearms have to go through background checks(with some exceptions like buying them at gun shows), they do NOT have to be registered. No, background checks is NOT the same as registering firearms, so there is NO such thing as a "registered" firearm.

Pt being that the entertainment media, in particular, has been conditioning the masses with the tiniest deceptions like these to eventually, over the long haul, get them to buy into the NWO's gun control agenda. So it's come to a point where when the MSM makes a passing reference to "unregistered" gun, almost immediately the average viewer may think "Maybe we need more gun control laws...".

For the record(on a side note) - I believe NY and CT may require them to be registered(after Sandy Hook) when they passed strict gun control laws recently. But aside from this, no, firearms aren't required to be registered.

For my people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge...

Well, actually, there is, in several states. Even in Arizona. The key is where you make the purchase. In Arizona, a private sale, or a sale at a gun show (effectively a private sale) does not require a background check nor does the buyer have to register the gun purchased.

Now, if you go to a gun store (FFL licensed store), you do have to register handgun purchases (no long guns), and while the Feds set restrictions, it's up to the buyer to fill out the federal paperwork properly, so to speak, so there are certain things requested of the buyer on the paperwork that the Feds can't prove otherwise, so people answer at their discretion.

And yes, a "background check"(applies to the buyer) is quite different than "register" (applies to the gun itself). The buyer is the one who gets their background checked to see if your a felon or some mental patient, or have warrants, etc. The gun purchased is what gets "registered" listing who bought it, etc.

Varies by state, but yes, there is such a thing as registering a gun.

Saw the ad for the first time during the basketball game tonight - yeah, it's not like they spend many, many millions of dollars on these pieces of entertainment for nothing. It's also from the director of "Independence Day"(alien agenda conditioning), "The Day after Tomorrow"(global warming lie), and "2012"(no comment).

They released yet another trailer for this another installment of Superman. They've been pushing this movie for almost a year now.

http://movies.yahoo.com/news/man-steel-trailer-general-zod-warns-earthlings-surrender-132507723.html

'Man of Steel' Trailer: General Zod Warns Earthlings to Surrender Superman

General Zod is a heck of a lot scarier than Kryptonite.

The interstellar supervillain is front and center in a new trailer for "Man of Steel" that plays more like a spin-off of "Cloverfield" than it does a teaser for a man-in-tights flick.

As Zod takes control of the airwaves, a scroll announces, "You are not alone."

"I have journeyed across an ocean of stars to reach you," Zod intones, informing the people of earth that he seeks the man he knows as Kal-El.

"To those of you who know of his location, the fate of your planet rests in your hands," he adds.

To prove that he means business, the trailer for "Man of Steel" overflows with exploding cities and impressive-looking alien gadgetry. It's all part of director Zack Snyder's ambition to cast away the ponderousness that weighed down Bryan Singer's "Superman Returns," in favor of a more action-driven storyline.

The clashes and fireballs hurtle by at a breakneck pace, so if you are hoping to unpack the trailer's mysteries on a frame by frame basis, head over here.

Henry Cavill stars as Superman, Michael Shannon portrays General Zod and Amy Adams takes on Lois Lane. "Man of Steel" hits theaters on June 14.

Do you think there is anything too the new "popular" movie, The Purge?

I saw ads for it during tv - from what I've read in an article today over box office reports, it was not only #1, but a big surprise hit to boot. It just seems like in recent years(especially since the turn of the century), a lot of these "sleeper" box office hits have been the supernatural witchcraft type that these Hollywood studios claim were (supposedly)getting zero buzz prior to their releases. Ie-The Sixth Sense, The Blair Witch Project, etc. And then there was 1990's Ghost.

IMHO, I don't think they're "surprise hits" or anything, as they for one were popular to begin with(meaning the mainstream moviegoers wanted to see them), and two, it's no coincidence that Hollywood has chosen out these particular movies as "surprise hits with zero buzz prior"...

Mat 24:24  For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

And to boot - the marketing strategies for these movies just seem awfully strange.

During my unsaved days, I was a big movie buff, and kept up quite a bit with the box office numbers of them, and their patterns over their box office runs. No, I'm not for certain over why they perform in a particular way like this, but just something I've observed for awhile.

Just that people are getting more used to the degradation of society and people are apparently willing to pay good money for nothing but murder ****. The basis of the movie makes ZERO sense, its something that would NEVER happen in any society what so ever, if by chance it did, seriously, why wouldn't you arm yourself for that one night? Why would you make it that anyone could even get to your house? Hello if you live in a castle, and you want the people out, you set it on fire. Solved that problem.

This movie and the others like it is just a different form of pornography,

http://news.yahoo.com/why-superman-just-became-poster-boy-immigration-reform-164814890.html
Why Superman Just Became the Poster Boy for Immigration Reform
6/15/13

One of the biggest summer blockbusters opened this week. The latest Superman movie, Man of Steel, is expected to earn $125 million by Monday morning’s tally.

But at the same time the Hollywood marketing machine is doing its full-court blitz on the American public, two organizations are waging their own Superman-themed campaign in order to change the way American audiences view immigration.

“Superman Is an Immigrant” is a campaign started by Define American and the Harry Potter Alliance, which hopes to reimagine the way immigrants are viewed in this country.

Though it’s not affiliated with the movie, the campaign was launched in conjunction with it in order to highlight one simple message: Immigration isn’t an “us versus them” proposition.

The campaign’s Tumblr states:

Born on Krypton, he came to this country with the promise of Hope - the symbol he bears on his chest. Many of our families also have a history of immigration. We share Superman’s hope and we continue his fight for truth, justice and the American Way.

"Superman Is an Immigrant" highlights the variety of American residents who fall under the status of immigrant, in order to illustrate that these are not the stories of "foreigners"—these are the stories of our own people. And when we speak of immigrants, we are talking about ourselves.

Below are some of the stories of those who've participated in the campaign so far.

I was in middle-school when I aced our “citizenship” test. I am now 22 years old and undocumented. I was brought here as a baby. I went to public schools. I grew up reading Harry Potter. I went through the difficulty and shame of applying for any job that would hire “illegal immigrants.” I speak the language, I’ve assimilated into the culture. Now I just need that piece of paper to validate what I already know. I’m an immigrant, but I’m still an American.

Nineteen years ago, my family immigrated to America to find new opportunities for a better life. Had they not left their homeland and the one-child rule behind, I would not be standing here today.

I am not recognized by the Chinese gov’t, but I am an American citizen.

I am alive. I am the American way.

Most of my life I've been told that my dad's ancestors came over just after the Mayflower and helped found Rhode Island. Another died in the Civil War. My mom's ancestors were English, Dutch, German and Austrian. I don't really have a heritage.

I'm a mutt. I am the American Way.

I'm Matt from the Whomping Willows.

My 14th-Great Grandfather on my mother's side is Roger Williams, founder of Rhode Island. He was an advocate of religious freedom and fair dealings with Native Americans. He was an immigrant. I am the American Way!

Eric Liu, former speechwriter and deputy domestic policy advisor for President Bill Clinton, critically-acclaimed author, co-founder of the True Patriot Network.

2nd Generation Chinese American

My grandfather's name meant, "Deliverance of the Nation."

I am the American Way!

Superman: Flying to a church near you

As the new Superman movie takes flight this weekend, filmmakers are hoping the Man of Steel lands not only in theaters, but also in pulpits.

Warner Bros. Studios is aggressively marketing "Man of Steel" to Christian pastors, inviting them to early screenings, creating Father’s Day discussion guides and producing special film trailers that focus on the faith-friendly angles of the movie.

The movie studio even asked a theologian to provide sermon notes for pastors who want to preach about Superman on Sunday. Titled “Jesus: The Original Superhero,” the notes run nine pages. Superman was based on the ANTICHRIST, the new-age version of the Jewish Messiah.

It is no coincidence that Superman, and the Messianic hope that he instilled, appeared when America needed him most, in the midst of the Great Depression, with war looming abroad. Superman would go on to become a great battler of Nazis. Both Siegel and Shuster were children of Jewish immigrants, as were many DC editors.

If Superman can be seen as a messianic figure, his claim to that title, from a Jewish perspective, is stronger than that of Jesus. Jesus was executed, but Superman triumphs as the mighty one who fights constantly for a reign of peace and justice, and “the American way.” He is, after all, an American Messiah. And his origins are replete with Mosaic pedigree. Like Moses, Superman was sent off alone by his mother to save him from destruction. Moses sailed away through the bulrushes in a basket, Superman in a rocket from the doomed planet Krypton.
http://www.americamagazine.org/issue/5143/ideas/messiah-krypton

“How might the story of Superman awaken our passion for the greatest hero who ever lived and died and rose again?” the sermon notes ask.

Similar campaigns to corral the country's large number of Christians into the movie theater have been used for "Les Miserables," "Soul Surfer" and "The Blind Side," all of which had at least some faith angle.

Baltimore pastor Quentin Scott is among dozens of ministers who received an e-mail invitation from Grace Hill Media, a Hollywood-based Christian marketing firm, to an early screening of “Man of Steel.”

“There was an actual push to say `We’re putting out something that speaks to your group,' ” said Scott, one of the pastors of Shiloh Christian Community Church in Baltimore.

At first, Scott said, he didn’t buy the religious pitch. Then he decided to attend a free midweek screening in Baltimore.

“When I sat and listened to the movie I actually saw it was the story of Christ, and the love of God was weaved into the story," said the pastor.

"It was something I was very excited about that with the consultation of our senior pastor, we could use in our congregation.”

Grace Hill’s sermon notes are specially designed for churches like Shiloh that integrate multimedia into their services.

“Let’s take a look at the trailer for `Man of Steel,’” the notes suggest after briefly introducing the movie’s history and themes.

The man behind the notes, Pepperdine University professor Craig Detweiler, has prepared similar material for films like 2009’s "The Blind Side" and "The Book of Eli" from 2010.

The spiritual themes in “Man of Steel” are abundant, Detweiler said, and his notes enable Christians to thoughtfully engage with pop culture instead of shunning it.

“All too often, religious communities have been defined by what they're against. With a movie like `Man of Steel,’ this is a chance to celebrate a movie that affirms faith, sacrifice and service,” Detweiler said.

It will be hard for even casual Christians to miss the messianic metaphors in "Man of Steel.”

The movie focuses on the origins of Superman, who was sent from the planet Krypton as an infant to save his species.

He is raised by surrogate parents who help him grapple with his special powers, even though they don’t fully understand the source of his extraordinary abilities.

When he turns 33, Superman must willingly sacrifice himself to save the human race.

Sound familiar?

If that’s not enough, as a boy Clark Kent is shown wrestling with his superpowers, and asks his earthly dad, Jonathan Kent, “Did God do this to me?”

“Somewhere out there you have another father and he sent you here for a reason,” says Jonathan Kent.

Even the visuals hammer home the messianic motifs.

During a fight with his archenemy, General Zod, Superman plunges down to Earth, his arms outstretched as if he were being crucified. Of course, he rises again.

Detweiler writes in the sermon notes, “What Jesus and Superman both give us, through their `hero’ actions but also their `human’ actions – is hope.”

“I think it’s a very good thing that Hollywood is paying attention to the Christian marketplace,” said Ted Baehr, who runs Movieguide, a website that reviews family friendly films from a Christian perspective.

“Where it gets sticky is when they try to manipulate the market and when Christians try to manipulate Hollywood. But here I think we have the right balance.”

But other Christians are heaving a supersized sigh at the movie marketing.

"Any pastor who thinks using `Man of Steel Ministry Resources' is a good Sunday morning strategy must have no concept of how high the stakes are, or very little confidence in the power of God’s word and God’s spirit," writes P.J. Wenzel, a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Dublin Baptist Church in Ohio.

"As they entertain their congregants with material pumped out from Hollywood’s sewers, lives are kept in bondage, and people’s souls are neglected," according to Wenzel, who said he was e-mailed information about the movie.

Scott, the Baltimore pastor, said he knows that Warner Bros. Studios has a financial incentive in pushing the film to pastors.

But he said that’s fine with him. “They’re using us but in fact we’re using them,” he said.

His church won't show clips from the movie this weekend because it had already planned out its service. But he plans to use them later, during meetings with the church’s men’s group.

“If you give me another opportunity to talk to someone about Jesus Christ, and I can do that because of your movie, that’s a win for me, because it is about spreading the Gospel.”

I believe even that "The Matrix" movie was marketed as some "Christian" movie as well.

It's ridiculous, really, to call any of these secular movies "Christian". I've seen marketing for "God at the movies" at some of these seeker-sensitive churches. God at the movies? Really?

Rom 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

No, actually, that is part of it, a result of belief. It's about belief in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

It's not about man sharing the Word, it is about believing the Word. We are moved by the Spirit to share the gospel, as that is what we are exhorted to do, by the Spirit, not by our own motivations.

Being blown about by the Spirit, we have no idea when the Word will be given to others through us, though we desire it to happen. It is our own vanity that moves us to want God to work through us, when in reality, I believe, it doesn't matter who God works through, so long as people believe Jesus. "...Christ is preached..."

The way the world does things, the things it promotes, is geared toward the carnal flesh, "...the lust of the flesh, and the lusts of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father...".

Take a closer look at the overall movie plot. Looks to me like they aren't original at all, but rather, Hollywood tends to re-tell the story in the bible, changing it to their own liking, if for no other reason, they don't believe the bible is true, but they know it's a popular plot line, so they alter and twist it, and bingo, you got some "super human" man, wearing tights, as the "savior" of the carnal world.

11  This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
12  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Santorum named CEO of faith-based movie studio

DALLAS - Former U.S. Senator and GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum has been named CEO of a company that makes movies meant for a Christian audience.

EchoLight Studios said Monday that Santorum will serve as head of the company. The company's first film is slated for release in the fall, and it has another movie in post-production.

The company says Santorum has spent the past year working with Dallas-based EchoLight.

Santorum says in a statement that Dallas can become the Hollywood of the faith-and-family movie market.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is something Hollywood has been doing quite a bit in recent years - repackaging secular products into "Christian" ones, and marketing it toward the modern-day church system crowd in the mainstream - Mel Gibson's "Passion" movie, the "Narnia" movies, the latest "Superman" movie, etc.

Israeli wall in 'World War Z' sparks questions

Israeli wall in Brad Pitt's 'World War Z' sparks questions

6/26/13

NEW YORK (AP) -- Brad Pitt's "World War Z" imagines a world overrun by a zombie pandemic, leading to an unlikely new global power structure. Two of the few countries that have kept the zombies at bay are Israel, which shelters Israelis and Palestinians behind a wall, and North Korea, which has removed the teeth of its citizens to prevent zombie biting.

It's a curious portrait of geopolitics that's left some moviegoers scratching their heads. Is a wall of unity for both Jews and Muslims in Jerusalem an ironic commentary on the West Bank barrier being constructed by Israel alongside Palestine? Or a suggestion that a wall — which resembles the Western Wall — can be a positive force in the Middle East?

There's little time for rumination on such questions in "World War Z" before the next swarm of zombies attacks. Any whiff of foreign policy contemplation is snuffed out by the stampeding undead, who seem about as interested in politics as the average summer moviegoer.

But in their wake, some have questioned just what, exactly, "World War Z," is saying about Israel.

"Will (foreign moviegoers) conclude that the filmmakers (are) saying that Kim Jong-un and Benjamin Netanyahu are the wisest leaders in the world, except that Kim is a little bit wiser, because he's uncontaminated by humanitarian sentiments?" wrote Hendrik Hertzberg for The New Yorker. "North Koreans still have a few teeth in their heads, but Israel has already built a wall. Will foreign audiences, or potential audiences, interpret the film's message to be that the only thing wrong with the existing wall is that it's not sealed tight enough?"

The Los Angeles Times' Steven Zeitchik wrote: "In the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, a wall is a heavily fraught symbol. But here it turns into an instrument of . peace?"

Any murkiness is partly the result of the tortured, rewritten path to movie theaters taken by "World War Z," which opened last weekend in North America with a higher than expected $66.4 million at the box office and plans for a sequel.

The film is loosely based on Max Brooks' 2006 novel "World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War." Modeled on Studs Terkel's Pulitzer Prize-winning "The Good War: An Oral History of World War II," Brooks' book is a collection of dispatches from around the globe years after a zombie outbreak.

Pitt's production company, Plan B, pursued the rights aggressively, winning them for $1 million over competing bidder Leonardo DiCaprio. But though Pitt was initially attracted to "World War Z" for its provocative hypothesizing of various nations' handling of a worldwide epidemic, the need for a more linear narrative soon took precedence.

After many rewrites over the course of years, much of the book was whittled away, eventually producing a film (the ending to which was reshot) with only cursory relation to the novel. Whereas the book deals centrally with geopolitical allegory, pieced together from multiple perspectives, the film is limited to the narrow viewpoint of one United Nations inspector (Pitt) trying to make sense of the catastrophe as its happening.

"It got too dense," Pitt, also a producer, said in an interview last week. "We got too weighed down on it. We spent a couple years on it. We couldn't get it into one movie. We had to walk a line between using the film as a Trojan horse for some of that, but these things have to be fun. And we were bored, ourselves."

In the book, uninfected Jews and Palestinians are quarantined behind a huge wall in Jerusalem. The haven is spoiled not by zombies, but by civil war, which breaks out when Israel's ultra-orthodox rebel. In the film, the Jerusalem scene (shot in Malta) is the film's grandest set piece (seen widely in TV ads) where zombies mount the wall like ants.

The use of such regionally sensitive imagery will likely be hotly debated when it opens in Israel on July 11.

Brooks, who's the son of Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft, declined to be interviewed for this article. He's previously distanced himself from the movie. In a video posted by Pennsylvania's Mansfield University in May, Brooks said the movie is "World War Z" ''in name only." Pitt's UN inspector isn't a character in the book, and Brooks reportedly requested that his publisher, Random House, not print new editions of the book with Pitt's face on the cover.

A sequel to the film may follow, which could give the producers a chance to delve deeper into the book's ideas. Moving forward a few years would also sync up chronologically with the novel.

One of the most notable changes to the geopolitics of "World War Z," though, dealt with another part of the world.

In the book, the outbreak begins in China, but the movie vaguely sources it to other parts of Asia. Faithfulness to the book in this instance, would have almost certainly kept the Paramount Pictures release out of the lucrative Chinese movie market, which is carefully restricted by the government.

Even when zombies run amok, box-office interests are carefully protected.

Was watching "Matlock" reruns on Saturday, and saw an episode where the plot centered around a woman from a small town writing a best-selling book over juicy gossip stories of random people in her city. By the show's end, Matlock and his team found out that the real writer behind her book was some prominent clergyman(who was killed earlier in the show) in her town.

Remember that story a year ago or so over that Iowa dentist who fired one of her employees b/c he thought she looked too beautiful, and he and his wife made this decision after meeting with their pastor?

Pt being that after watching this episode, it occurred to me that maybe, just maybe at least some of these ghostwriters behind these books are local clergyman across the country - not only behind these "Christian" books(ie-Hal Lindsey's books were written by ghostwriters), but potentially behind a lot of these fiction books like these romance/gossip books(for example) as well.

Why? B/c these local clergymen(whether they're catholic priests or protestant/Baptist pastors) are perceived as the most trusted people in their respective communities, so in particular churchgoers(and maybe lost people too) end up going to their respective community clergymen when they have problems and want to pour their hearts out. BUT, as we all know, these church building, 501c3 clergymen have no love for the sheep and are after filthy lucre(and then all of the stories and gossip these RCC priests get from behind the "confessionals").Ie-my previous pastor, from what I understood, loved to write, and even took time off one summer to do just that. He only had like one book published, which should be bewildering considering how much he loved to write.

I'm not saying this is the case, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if ultimately, a lot of these ghostwriters behind these books of ALL genres(not just "Christian" ones) are local clergymen quietly exposing a lot of the stories/gossip from their end into these works - b/c while many may be aware of ghostwriters, NOONE from their respective communities will suspect these clergymen behind them.

The Chilling History of How Hollywood Helped Hitler (Exclusive)
7/31/13

In devastating detail, an excerpt from a controversial new book reveals how the big studios, desperate to protect German business, let Nazis censor scripts, remove credits from Jews, get movies stopped and even force one MGM executive to divorce his Jewish wife.

This story first appeared in the Aug. 9 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.

The 1930s are celebrated as one of Hollywood's golden ages, but in an exclusive excerpt from his controversial new book, The Collaboration: Hollywood's Pact with Hitler (Harvard University Press, on sale Sept. 9), Harvard post-doctoral fellow Ben Urwand uncovers a darker side to Hollywood's past.

Drawing on a wealth of archival documents in the U.S. and Germany, he reveals the shocking extent to which Hollywood cooperated and collaborated with the Nazis during the decade leading up to World War II to protect its business.

Indeed, "collaboration" (and its German translation, Zusammenarbeit) is a word that appears regularly in the correspondence between studio officials and the Nazis. Although the word is fraught with meaning to modern ears, its everyday use at the time underscored the eagerness of both sides to smooth away their differences to preserve commerce.

The Nazis threatened to exclude American movies -- more than 250 played in Germany after Hitler took power in 1933 -- unless the studios cooperated. Before World War I, the German market had been the world's second largest, and even though it had shrunk during the Great Depression, the studios believed it would bounce back and worried that if they left, they would never be able to return.

Beginning with wholesale changes made to Universal's 1930 release All Quiet on the Western Front, Hollywood regularly ran scripts and finished movies by German officials for approval. When they objected to scenes or dialogue they thought made Germany look bad, criticized the Nazis or dwelled on the mistreatment of Jews, the studios would accommodate them -- and make cuts in the American versions as well as those shown elsewhere in the world.

It was not only scenes: Nazi pressure managed to kill whole projects critical of the rise of Adolf Hitler. Indeed, Hollywood would not make an important anti-Nazi film until 1940. Hitler was obsessed with the propaganda power of film, and the Nazis actively promoted American movies like 1937's Captains Courageous that they thought showcased Aryan values.

Historians have long known about American companies such as IBM and General Motors that did business in Germany into the late 1930s, but the cultural power of movies -- their ability to shape what people think -- makes Hollywood's cooperation with the Nazis a particularly important and chilling moment in history. -- Andy Lewis

'Victory Is Ours'

On Friday, Dec. 5, 1930, a crowd of Nazis in Berlin seized on an unusual target: the Hollywood movie All Quiet on the Western Front. Recognized in most countries as a document of the horrors of the First World War, in Germany it was seen as a painful and offensive reenactment of the German defeat.

The Nazis, who had recently increased their representation in the Reichstag from 12 to 107 seats, took advantage of the national indignation toward All Quiet on the Western Front. They purchased about 300 tickets for the first public screening, and as they watched the German troops retreat from the French, they shouted: "German soldiers had courage. It's a disgrace that such an insulting film was made in America!" Because of the disruptions, the projectionist was forced to switch off the film. Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels gave a speech from the front row of the balcony in which he claimed that the film was an attempt to destroy Germany's image. His comrades threw stink bombs and released mice into the crowd. Everyone rushed for the exits, and the theater was placed under guard.

The Nazis' actions met with significant popular approval. The situation came to a climax Dec. 11, when the highest censorship board in Germany convened to determine the fate of the film. After a long discussion, the chairman of the board issued a ban: Whereas the French soldiers went to their deaths quietly and bravely, the German soldiers howled and shrieked with fear. The film was not an honest representation of German defeat -- of course the public had reacted disapprovingly. Regardless of one's political affiliation, the picture offended a whole generation of Germans who had suffered through the War.

And so, six days after the protests in Berlin, All Quiet on the Western Front was removed from screens in Germany. "Victory is ours!" Goebbels' newspaper proclaimed. "We have forced them to their knees!"

In Hollywood, the president of Universal Pictures, Carl Laemmle, was troubled by the controversy surrounding his picture. He was born in Germany, and he wanted All Quiet on the Western Front to be shown there. According to one representative, his company had "lost a fine potential business, for the film would have been a tremendous financial success in Germany if it could have run undisturbed."

In August 1931, Laemmle came up with a heavily edited version of the movie that he was convinced would not offend the German Foreign Office. He made a trip to Europe to promote the new version. The Foreign Office soon agreed to support All Quiet on the Western Front for general screening in Germany, under one condition: Laemmle would have to tell Universal's branches in the rest of the world to make the same cuts to all copies of the film. Late in the summer, Laemmle agreed to cooperate with the request.

As months passed, however, Laemmle, who was Jewish, grew worried about something much more important than the fate of his film. "I am almost certain," he wrote in early 1932, "that [Adolf] Hitler's rise to power … would be the signal for a general physical onslaught on many thousands of defenseless Jewish men, women and children." He convinced American officials that he could provide for individual Jews, and by the time of his death in 1939, he had helped get at least 300 people out of Germany.

And yet at precisely the moment he was embarking on this crusade, his employees at Universal were following the orders of the German government. In the first few months of 1932, the Foreign Office discovered unedited versions of All Quiet on the Western Front playing in El Salvador and Spain. The company apologized. Afterward, there were no more complaints; Universal had made the requested cuts all around the world.

The following year, Laemmle made another concession to the Foreign Office: He postponed The Road Back, the sequel to All Quiet on the Western Front. His son, Carl Laemmle Jr., also agreed to change many pictures in Germany's favor. "Naturally," the Foreign Office noted, "Universal's interest in collaboration [Zusammenarbeit] is not platonic but is motivated by the company's concern for the well-being of its Berlin branch and for the German market."

Throughout the 1930s, the term "collaboration" was used repeatedly to describe dealings that took place in Hollywood. Even studio heads adopted the term. An executive at RKO promised that whenever he made a film involving Germany, he would work "in close collaboration" with the local consul general. A Fox executive said the same. Even United Artists offered "the closest collaboration" if the German government did not punish the studio for the controversial 1930 air combat movie Hell's Angels. According to the Foreign Office, "Every time that this collaboration was achieved, the parties involved found it to be both helpful and pleasant."

All this was a result of the Nazis' actions against All Quiet on the Western Front. Soon every studio started making deep concessions to the German government, and when Hitler came to power in January 1933, they dealt with his representatives directly.

The most important German representative in the whole arrangement was a diplomat named Georg Gyssling, who had been a Nazi since 1931. He became the German consul in Los Angeles in 1933, and he consciously set out to police the American film industry. His main strategy was to threaten the American studios with a section of the German film regulations known as "Article 15." According to this law, if a company distributed an anti-German picture anywhere in the world, then all its movies could be banned in Germany. Article 15 proved to be a very effective way of regulating the American film industry as the Foreign Office, with its vast network of consulates and embassies, could easily detect whether an offensive picture was in circulation anywhere around the world.

Last week, saw an early 2011 tv movie where it showed a scene where the lead character was looking at a Yahoo-type web site, and the headline read "Wildfires ravage California".

Don't remember wildfires doing so there in 2011, however last year and this year, wildfires have done just that in California, and it has gotten even worse this year.

Mirroring summer blockbusters, military creating gadget-draped future fighters
8/17/13

Hollywood’s summer of the super soldier — featuring tech-bedecked troops like Matt Damon in the No. 1 movie “Elysium” — offers a flicker of futuristic battle gear as the real U.S. military explores innovations from exoskeletons to advanced armor to outfit the next-gen combat fighter.

At the laboratories of Special Operations Command (SOCOM) in Tampa, Fla., one project is dubbed TALOS — tactical assault light operator suit — and the blueprint involves blending an array of emerging technologies into a single, gizmo-rich, body-shielding uniform.

“How do we take the best of what’s out there — being academia, large industry, small industry or just three guys with a bright idea — and focus that energy toward the (special) operator to give him better protection and better capability?” said Jim Geurts, who oversees science and tech development, procurement and production for Special Operations. The command includes elite forces like Army Rangers and Navy SEALS.

“Certainly that involves body armor. But it also involves: How do I get them better situational awareness? How do I get them better communication? How do I allow them to move better without getting hurt?” Geurts said. “How do we continue to focus technology innovation and the good-old-American-monster-garage kinds of things to continue to help the operator?”

In July, SOCOM held a unique trade show in Tampa that mixed private scientists who are ramping up designs on exoskeletons (high-powered, wearable machines) or who are bolstering display technologies or creating tomorrow’s armor. The goal was to assemble the masterminds in the same room, Geurts said.

“There’s not a place right now where all of them get together with a (special) operator and say, ‘OK, can I put this radio on your exoskeleton, and how much power does it need?’” Geurts said. “Everybody brought their LEGO building blocks and we could see all the types of LEGO building blocks, and we could start to think about how we put those blocks together to build something to give the operators capability that they don’t have now."

The public can glimpse the creative thinking behind such revolutionary gadgetry in pop films like “Elysium,” in which Matt Damon’s character sports a black-metal exoskeleton plugged into his mind and spine, boosting his strength allowing him to download others’ thoughts. In another summer movie, “Pacific Rim,” pairs of soldiers mutually operate giant exoskeletons to combat sea monsters.

Do these sci-fi films marry today’s silver-screen fantasy with any tiny germ of tomorrow’s battlefield reality?

“Maybe conceptually,” Geurts said. “Certainly, the idea of having mobility with protection with the ability to understand the environment around you and communicate to others around you — those facets are all important.”

Similar techno advances are in play across other branches as military commanders collaborate with top science minds to push the bounds of soldier suits.

Norman Wagner, a professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering at the University of Delaware, has worked with the U.S. Army Research Laboratory in Maryland to co-invent a liquid armor called Shear Thickening Fluid. His material could coat Kevlar vests and Kevlar helmets, transforming them into something better: When a bullet or bomb fragment strikes the service member, miniscule particles in the liquid ceramic instantly reorganize themselves and harden to block the projectile.

“The idea is, you want a body armor that’s flexible so you can wear it,” Wagner said. “But at the point of impact, the fluid acts more like a solid in protecting the person behind it.”

Wagner has another project in the works that similarly seems tailor-made for military use: He, a University of Delaware colleague and a student are investigating a chemical-polymer technology that allows material to self mend.

"If you get a cut or a puncture, the material would heal itself the same way that biological systems respond to skin wounds,” Wagner said.

While Wagner said the price for his Shear Thickening Fluid is relatively low and on par with “commercial costs,” this is the age of federal sequestration. At Special Operations Command, the innovators are taking lean times to heart.

“The challenge is two-fold: one, the collection of items called TALOS and, two, reinventing the next-generation business-acquisition model that let’s us quickly and cheaply attract those technologies to help the guys,” Geurts said.

Special Ops wants to tap the best ideas and the newest technologies — where ever they may be — allowing the command to collaborate with “non-traditional suppliers.” That is far different from picking a large contractor and paying big bucks to complete a project.

Military leaders acknowledge they have learned hard lessons in bolstering body protection and other battlefield gear for troops during 12 years of war, leading to better equipment already in place. But as the next phase of upgrades rolls from concept to the laboratory to the production line, they will be quickly installed in the field. The re-outfitting of troops in soldier suits 2.0 is not a distant theory, Geurts said.

"We're creating the environment where we can continue to improve and improve and improve," he said. "And if I can do something in two weeks that helps the guys, then that’s two weeks better than what I can give them today."
