It states: “The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem. “During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.”

South Africa: Nelson Mandela in critical condition
6/23/13
http://news.yahoo.com/south-africa-nelson-mandela-critical-condition-201653072.html

JOHANNESBURG (AP) — Nelson Mandela's health has deteriorated and he is now in critical condition, the South African government said Sunday.

The office of President Jacob Zuma said in a statement that he had visited the 94-year-old anti-apartheid leader at a hospital Sunday evening and was informed by the medical team that Mandela's condition had become critical in the past 24 hours.

"The doctors are doing everything possible to get his condition to improve and are ensuring that Madiba is well-looked after and is comfortable. He is in good hands," Zuma said in the statement, using Mandela's clan name.

Zuma also met Graca Machel, Mandela's wife, at the hospital in Pretoria and discussed the former leader's condition, according to the statement. Zuma was accompanied on the visit by Cyril Ramaphosa, the deputy president of the country's ruling party, the African National Congress.

Mandela, who became South Africa's first black president after the end of apartheid in 1994, was hospitalized on June 8 for what the government said was a recurring lung infection.

In the statement, Zuma also discussed the government's acknowledgement a day earlier that an ambulance carrying Mandela to the hospital two weeks ago had engine trouble, requiring the former president to be transferred to another ambulance for his journey to the hospital.

"There were seven doctors in the convoy who were in full control of the situation throughout the period. He had expert medical care," Zuma said. "The fully equipped military ICU ambulance had a full complement of specialist medical staff including intensive care specialists and ICU nurses. The doctors also dismissed the media reports that Madiba suffered cardiac arrest. There is no truth at all in that report."

Zuma appealed to South Africans and the rest of the world to pray for Mandela, his family and the medical team that is attending to him.

On April 29, state television broadcast footage of a visit by Zuma and other leaders of the African National Congress to Mandela's home. Zuma said at the time that Mandela was in good shape, but the footage — the first public images of Mandela in nearly a year — showed him silent and unresponsive, even when Zuma tried to hold his hand.

Mandela was jailed for 27 years under white racist rule and was released in 1990. He then played a leading role in steering the divided country from the apartheid era to democracy, becoming South Africa's first black president in all-race elections in 1994.

As a result of his sacrifice and peacemaking efforts, he is seen by many around the world as a symbol of reconciliation.

Ailing Nelson Mandela on life support, official says

Pretoria, South Africa (CNN) -- South Africans lit candles outside the hospital where anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela lay Wednesday night as an official who had been briefed in detail on his condition reported the former president was on life support.

Considered the founding father of South Africa's multiracial democracy, the 94-year-old Mandela has been hospitalized since June 8 for a recurring lung infection. Authorities have described his condition as critical since Sunday, and President Jacob Zuma said earlier Wednesday that Mandela's condition remained unchanged, South Africa's national news agency reported.

After visiting Mandela late Wednesday night, Zuma canceled his visit Thursday to Mozambique where he was supposed to attend a summit on infrastructure investment, the presidency's website said.

South African government spokesman Mac Maharaj told CNN that officials are unable to comment on reports that Mandela was on life support, citing doctor-patient confidentiality rules. In a statement issued late Tuesday, the government said Mandela's doctors "continue to do their best to ensure his recovery, well-being and comfort."

As the nation remained on edge, police barricaded the street leading to the hospital's main entrance. Well-wishers hung balloons, stuffed animals and messages of support along the wall, and crowds hovering nearby sang "Where is Mandela?"

"We need you!," one sign read. "We love you tata, get well soon!" said another, referring to Mandela by the Xhosa word for father. Someone else left a stone upon which was written, "Sending you light and love."

Several members of the family came out to collect some of those items Wednesday.

"He's going to feel a lot better when he sees these signs," said David Manaway, Mandela's grandson-in-law.

Why Mandela has six names

Mandela's former physician and the nation's ex-surgeon general, Dr. Vejay Ramlakan, also visited the hospital Wednesday, said the national news agency, South African Press Association.

Mandela became an international figure while enduring 27 years in prison for fighting against apartheid, the country's system of racial segregation. He was elected the nation's first black president in 1994, four years after he was freed.

"He is our hero. He is my mentor, my father. He is everything to me," said Kuda Nyahumzvi, 36. "But when it is his time, we wish his soul could just rest. He spent so long in jail and struggling."

Even as he has faded from the spotlight, he remains popular and is considered a hero of democracy worldwide.

As South Africans steeled themselves for the worst, details emerged about the family's meeting in his boyhood home of Qunu on Tuesday. An archbishop also stopped by the hospital and conducted prayers, calling for "a quiet night and a peaceful, perfect end" for the former president.

Archbishop Thabo Makgoba joined the family at the hospital where Mandela remained in critical condition, the South African Press Association reported.

"Fill them with your holy courage and the gift of trusting faith, and take away their fears so that they may dare to face their grief," he said, according to a copy of the prayer posted on the bishop's website.

"And uphold all of us with your steadfast love so that we may be filled with gratitude for all the good that he has done for us and for our nation, and may honor his legacy through our lives."

7 Things You Can Learn From Nelson Mandela's Life

During the meeting in Qunu, funeral arrangements were not part of the talks, family friend Bantu Holomisa said, according to SAPA.

As a former head of state, plans for Mandela's funeral are spearheaded by the government, according to Holomisa.

Mandela turns 95 in July.

Nelson Mandela, anti-apartheid icon and father of modern South Africa, dies
http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/05/world/africa/nelson-mandela/index.html
12/5/13

(CNN) -- Nelson Mandela, the revered statesman who emerged from prison after 27 years to lead South Africa out of decades of apartheid, has died, South African President Jacob Zuma announced late Thursday.

Mandela was 95.

"He is now resting. He is now at peace," Zuma said. "Our nation has lost its greatest son. Our people have lost a father."

"What made Nelson Mandela great was precisely what made him human," the president said in his late-night address. "We saw in him what we seek in ourselves."

Mandela will have a state funeral. Zuma ordered all flags in the nation to be flown at half-staff from Friday through that funeral.

Mandela, a former president, battled health issues in recent months, including a recurring lung infection that led to numerous hospitalizations.

With advancing age and bouts of illness, Mandela retreated to a quiet life at his boyhood home in the nation's Eastern Cape Province, where he said he was most at peace. He was later moved to his home in the Johannesburg suburb of Houghton, where he died.

Despite rare public appearances, he held a special place in the consciousness of the nation and the world.

A hero to blacks and whites

In a nation healing from the scars of apartheid, Mandela became a moral compass.

And our US president makes an a** of himself taking selfies at the funeral with his best white bud Cameron and the Denmark PM. Any man who has been married knows that look on Michelle Obama in that photo. It looks like she ain't too happy with Barack's chitchat with the blond. I wonder how you say in Dutch, "Your fizzin' to get backhanded by a mad black woman"?

Obama's gestures during Mandela memorial scrutinized

An unexpected handshake. A selfie. A seat change.

President Barack Obama's gestures at Nelson Mandela's memorial service in Johannesburg were widely scrutinized on the world's stage Tuesday.

First, Obama shook hands with Cuban President Raul Castro as the U.S. president approached the podium at the soccer stadium to address Mandela's mourners. The brief exchange, captured on video and photographs, sparked an immediate reaction online and on TV, with cable news pundits and Twitter users debating the significance of warmth shown between leaders of countries that have not had formal diplomatic relations since 1959.

The handshake also drew some sharp GOP criticism. Sen. John McCain likened it to shaking hands with Adolf Hitler.

"Why should you shake hands with somebody who's keeping Americans in prison?" McCain told Public Radio International, adding: "Neville Chamberlain shook hands with Hitler."

"This wasn't a preplanned encounter," an Obama aide told Yahoo News on Tuesday. "Above all else, today is about honoring Nelson Mandela, and that was the president's singular focus."

At another point, President Obama posed for a "selfie" from his seat at the memorial with British Prime Minister David Cameron and Denmark's Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt. First lady Michelle Obama, seated to the group's left, did not participate. (cont.)

Mandela Lived in a 30-Room Mansion While Dying Sister Lives in One Room with Seven Relatives!

Posted by Don Boys on December 7, 2013

In past years when one spoke of problems in South Africa, he often referred to the mistreatment of Blacks and their drive for racial equality in a nation dominated by a white minority. In this situation Nelson Mandela always became relevant to the conversation.

Mandela (educated at a Wesleyan Mission School) was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 although it was obvious to all except the deaf, blind, and dumb (especially the dumb) that he was a terrorist and waged war against his own people and nation. But then, the Nobel Peace Prize seems too often be given to those who lean to the left, are left handed, and live out in left field. Of course, their left knees jerk incessantly.

Mandela was cofounder and director of the militant Spear of the Nation and was involved in burnings, brutality, and bombings by the dozens. One of his terrorist acts was the bombing at Church Street in Pretoria that killed 19 people and injured 217.  He even advised black youths to burn down their schools. Those same children are now struggling in college because they missed so much school in their early grades where foundational facts are taught.

It is unusual if the media do not refer to him as a political prisoner; however, it is interesting that Amnesty International did not consider him such because that group “rejects the proposal to recognize as prisoners of conscience people who use or advocate the use of force.” Nelson did not qualify and the media’s “make over” will not change that fact.

Mandela is known for his many illicit affairs, but we are expected to overlook all that because he was so devoted to freeing his people and throwing off the oppressive white yoke! One day, his first wife returned home to find that Mandela had installed his mistress in his bedroom!

Nelson was married three times and abandoned his first wife (a Jehovah’s Witness who was never political following the precepts of that sect) to raise their three children alone. He married Winnie who lost all credibility with everyone except those whose salaries and benefits she pays. Nelson shot her into space (divorce) when she embarrassed him and became a drag on his political life. She was vocal about advocating terror and violence to support her cause.

Winnie, convicted of fraud and theft in 2002 and still a member of the ANC’s National Executive Committee, rides in a limousine and wears very expensive clothes and jewelry, and has scores of bodyguards wherever she goes. She was convicted of kidnapping a young man who was subsequently murdered. She also said, “With our boxes of matches and our necklaces we shall liberate this country,” referring to the grisly township practice of putting a gasoline-soaked tire around the neck of suspected apartheid agents (anyone working for the white regime), cutting under their arms, and setting the tire on fire. Then the black crowd of “freedom fighters” taunted the dying “agent of apartheid.”  Minnie is a sweetie.

Such savagery did not stop after Blacks took over. Three men were killed by necklacing last year for burglary. Early in 2013 four students were necklaced in Nigeria, so this gruesome death penalty is spreading across Africa, Haiti, and Brazil.

All the victims of necklacing in South Africa have been black! Almost 200! Nelson even defended Winnie’s infamous speech on necklacing! Yep, a man of peace, principle, and purpose
.

In Mandela’s long walk to free the Blacks of white domination, he and his former wife, Winnie, and his Red buddies at the ANC became filthy rich. One ANC leader said, “I didn’t enter this struggle to be poor.” They aren’t poor anymore. Meanwhile, the “natives on the reservation” are angry since the trainload of goodies did not stop for them. The gravy train stopped just long enough for Mandela and his Red cronies to climb on board before it chugged on down the tracks leaving millions of poor, disillusioned blacks wiping the soot from their faces. Winnie even said, “[Nelson] Mandela let us down. He agreed to a bad deal for the blacks.”

Mandela carefully maintained a statesman-like, friendly, likeable, reformer persona, trying to help his people (Blacks) but he has not shown any concern for his only living sibling, his elderly and sick sister. While Mandela built himself a 30-room mansion, surrounded by a high wall next to the main highway, his sister lives with seven relatives in one, round-shaped room sleeping in just four beds! However, it is crass, if not crude to speak of such things since he was a “man of conscience” and the “George Washington and Abraham Lincoln” of South Africa!

And he did spend 27 years in prison but even if he had been innocent, it would not qualify him being nominated as a member of the Trinity by the unbalanced, untruthful, unskilled, and unnecessary media!
