It states: “The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem. “During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.”

Is Ghost-Writing unChristian?

My introduction to ghost-writing came via a gifted friend from my days at Stanford.  She received her B.A. in classics from Stanford with distinction.  She is a gifted writer.  After college she went to work with a Christian ministry.  My wife and I were visiting with her one day when she read a letter from a well-known Christian leader.  I was a bit surprised by how well the letter was written and commenced to voice my astonishment.  My friend said, “Oh no, she did not write it.  I did.”  I was speechless…a rather uncommon occurrence for me!

After this, I started to hear more about ghost-writing.  There were all kinds of rationales given to the practice, but all struck me as ridiculous.  Who cares if everyone is doing it?  That is certainly not a compelling argument.  Who cares if both the ghost-writer and the more famous Christian are fine with it?  No argument of any worth there either.

My first opportunity to ghost-write came about ten years ago.  I turned down the offer even though the money was good.  In the depths of the recent recession when we almost lost our home, I said “yes” to ghost-writing two smaller pieces.  It was a weak moment to be sure, but inexcusable.  I will never do it again.

I have no problem with a famous Christian utilizing the skills of a more gifted writer as long as proper attribution is given.  Which means in many cases putting them on the cover as a co-author.  And how many follow that practice?  Very few, I’m afraid.

I talked with a journalist several years back who was working on a major book about ghost-writing among Christians.  He decided to scrap it because he felt it would be too much of a stumbling block for Christians to find out how many of their favorite writers are really not the guy or gal writing the book!

The Deception of Christian Ghostwriting
02/10/08

The “Reverend” Mel White is a homosexual activist (& Co-founder of Soulforce-a proactive gay agenda group) who lives with his male lover, Gary Nixon, in Dallas, Texas. 'I am gay, I am proud, and God loves me without reservation,' White recently told David Calker, a Los Angeles Times reporter. White, who 'pastors' a militantly gay church, is also a writer of many Christian books. But though he's the author, his name doesn't appear on the front covers. Instead, a Christian celebrity's name appears on each of Mel White's books. White is what the book industry fondly calls a 'ghostwriter.' “Rev.” White has written speeches for Lt. Col. Oliver North & also authored at least two of evangelist Jerry Falwell's books, including, unbelievable as it may seem, Falwell's autobiography, Strength for the Journey. Falwell could well afford White's fee to ghostwrite his books. The Moral Majority preacher was given a one million dollar advance by the publisher! The Reverend Mr. White has also been the secret force behind some of Billy Graham's best known books, including Graham's prophetic bestseller, The Approaching Hoofbeats.  Readers pay exorbitant prices for the books of Christian superstars, never knowing that the volumes are actually written by no-name 'ghosts.' Among the big names pulling this stunt: Hal Lindsey, Chuck Colson, Jim Bakker, Billy Graham, Oral Roberts, Benny Hinn, John Ankerberg, Hank Hanegraaff, David Jeremiah and Jerry Falwell.

Telling people the truth would be a stumbling block? It is not a stumbling block in that context. To the disobedient it is...

6  Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7  Unto you therefore which believe [he is] precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
8  And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, [even to them] which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

Saw an episode of "Matlock"(1980's Andy Griffith tv show) one time which centered around a small town elderly lady that got famous for writing a juicy, gossip book surrounding popular people in her town. It was found out toward the end that the town's prominent minister was the ghost-writer behind that book.

Pt being that sometimes I wonder how many clergymen are behind ghost-writing not only "Christian" books, but all of these SECULAR FICTION books that deal with romance, gossip, passion, etc. Seriously, it's not just Catholic priests in their "confessionals" that hear people's "sins" and problems, but even Protestant clergymen are seen to be the most "trusted" people in their respective communities too(for obvious reasons), so people end up going to them when they have problems. Ultimately, NOONE will expect them to be ghost-writers of ANYTHING.

And my previous pastor loved to write(and was money-loving), FYI.

It's one of the VERY few secular shows I like - again, it's secular, but its very clean(at least compared to a lot of the other junk out there). But nonetheless I can't help but notice some predictive programming on it every now and then as well(which is why I bring this show up when given the opportunity).

Also, as for the other authors mentioned...WOW...Mel White really did a masterful job, as much as I hate to say it, in terms of convincing others that these others wrote it. I read bits of Graham's "The Approaching Hoofbeats", and you would have NEVER thought a homosexual would have written a word of it! John Ankerberg, I think, has written books exposing cults and false teachings - again, you would have NEVER thought a homosexual would have pulled this off!
