The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. Keep in mind - the agenda of the Jesuits is "the ends justifies the means"...

What Hobby Lobby decision means for the LGBT community

Now that we know that some corporations are people whose sincerely held religious beliefs must be respected, the next logical question is this: Is this good for the gays? The short answer is yes and no — for now.

In Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores, the question before the court was whether corporations providing health coverage to their employees could get out of the Obamacare mandate that said policies offer contraceptive services because doing so would violate the sincerely held religious beliefs of the company’s owners. By a decision of 5 to 4, the Supreme Court said yes.

The decision is limited in scope. The “corporations are people, my friend” ruling only applies “closely held corporations” Internal Revenue Service defines them as a company that “has more than 50% of the value of its outstanding stock owned (directly or indirectly) by 5 or fewer individuals at any time during the last half of the tax year.” Adding to the narrowness of the ruling was what Justice Samuel Alito said his decision wasn’t in response to the dissent.

The principal dissent raises the possibility that discrimination in hiring, for example, on the basis of race might be cloaked as religious practice to escape legal sanction….Our decision today provides no such shield. The government has a compelling interest in providing an equal opportunity to participate in the workforce without regard to race, and prohibitions on racial discrimination are precisely tailored to achieve that critical goal.

That the majority opinion specifically warned that its opinion does not shield “employers who might cloak illegal discrimination as a religious practice” is a great thing. And it should be a brake on unscrupulous employers looking to use it to justify their bigotry. But this is where the gays come in. Many folks always seem to invoke their religious beliefs when talking about and expressing their opposition to issues related to abortion or the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. So, it wasn’t a far leap to fear that bosses would try to apply the same rationale to thinning their ranks of gay employees. After all, sexual orientation is not a protected class or characteristic like race is under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Nor was it unwise to fear that employers would try to deny LGBT workers coverage for, say, HIV medication or hormone replacement therapy for transgender men and women. Alito was clear on that last point when he wrote that the majority opinion “is concerned solely with the contraceptive mandate.” But that’s cold comfort.

One LGBT rights advocate and strategist I spoke with on background immediately after the ruling came down called it a “mixed bag.” While Alito makes it clear what corporations can’t do, there is recognition that that won’t stop companies from overstepping their legal bounds or affected employees from taking them to court. Another was advocate was slightly more optimistic. “The judges obviously were worried about the ‘slippery slope,’ so they drew a firm line between the contraception mandate and what they called ‘illegal discrimination,” said Lanae Erickson Hatalsky, director of social policy and politics at Third Way. “Because they specifically mentioned race but not sexual orientation, I’m sure some folks will still cite this decision in their arguments in favor of discrimination against the LGBT community, but it’ll be a hard legal row to hoe.”

But that’s a long-term worry compared to the millions of women who will lose or not get contraceptive care through their employer now that corporations are people.

Ronald Reagan and the Republican hypocrisy over illegal immigration
7/20/14

Republicans and conservatives around the country are cheering a great wall to be built at the border while crossing their fingers over a pipe dream of an Obama impeachment. Despite their fantasy, their own past might leave them with their jaws dropping.

November 6, 1986. That date might not seem to special to many people but it was the day that then President Ronald Reagan put pen to paper and signed into law the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Also known as the Simpson-Mazzoli Act, for Democrat Rep. Romano L. Mazzoli and Republican Sen. Alan K. Simpson who chaired their respected subcommittees, Reagan signed the bill into law with the hopes that the immigration issue would be taken care once and for all.

Among some of the bills provisions, it granted legal status to nearly 3 million illegal immigrants who entered the country before January 1, 1982 as long as they followed a plan to pay back taxes and fines. It also came down on employers who knowingly hired undocumented workers, while also attempting to secure the border. A noble effort, the results weren't as promising as fraudulent applications soured the bill's intentions, opening the door for more employees to hire a growing number of illegal immigrants entering the country.

Immigration reform has been a hot topic as Washington continues to make it the elephant in the room when it comes to today's current process. Everyone seems to know that it's an issue that must be tackled, but both sides of the political aisle get worried about the fallout. While Democrats argue over how far to take the immigration issue, Republicans question if they as a party can even afford to get it done. The overwhelming majority of illegal immigrants come from south of the border and the Republican party sees no light at the end of the tunnel if they stick with the status quo.

As the Hispanic population continues to grow, so does the voting base. According to the Pew Research Center, 11.2 million Latinos voted in the 2012 election, just over 48 percent of those who were eligible.

"Latino population has fueled quick growth in the number of Latinos eligible to vote (U.S. citizen adults). Between 2008 and 2012, the number of Latino eligible voters grew from 19.5 million to 23.3 million—an increase of 19%. By contrast, the number of Latino voters increased by 15% over 2008."

Republicans find their party at a political crossroads. They still cater towards an aging southern white population that doesn't typically support immigration reform, but they also know that if they want to have a chance in national elections moving forward, they can't appear to hard on immigration. Ronald Reagan gave it shot in 1986, but if he was doing that today, conservatives would be screaming "impeachment" with every movement of the signature of his pen. High profile Republicans, such as former VP candidate Sarah Palin, have called for President Obama's impeachment, but if they look back at their favorite leader's history, they might tone their rhetoric down or risk being called out over their own hypocrisy.

Rise of the Christian left: Why the religious right’s moment may be ending
7/21/14
http://www.salon.com/2014/07/21/rise_of_the_christian_left_why_the_religious_rights_moment_may_be_ending/

From Pope Francis to a generation with new priorities, the finest Christian traditions are being reinvigorated

It’s hard to tell if the near-constant stream of millennial-centric political think-pieces are perpetuating or reflecting growing curmudgeonly fears about the future of the country. Maybe it’s a little of both, and Fox is probably observing within its competency when it pegs more than a handful of us as “deluded narcissists” –  but it appears there’s room for some political optimism among all the moral panic and the reign of the religious right. With millennial religious and political attitudes in flux compared to our predecessors, the upcoming years could be the Christian left’s big moment.

Which isn’t to say the United States has no Christian left history — with Civil Rights and the heyday of Catholic labor in our past, there is healthy precedent — but for the millennial growing up in the age of Jesus Camp and ‘Teach the Controversy’, Christian political activity has almost always veered rightward. Yet if the Culture Wars are losing momentum in light of issues like unemployment — which 76% of millennials identified as a critical issue in a 2012 Public Religion Research Institute survey, compared with 22% who found abortion or same sex marriage critical — how will Christian millennials fall out politically?

One thing seems clear: however they align themselves, it won’t be along typical partisan lines. A recent Reason-Rupe poll of young Americans found millennials to be, in the words of Nick Gillespie, tired of  “partisan crap,” which more or less covers it. The Reason-Rupe findings track well with the 2012 PRRI results linked above, which concluded that 45% of young people identify as independent, with only 33% calling themselves Democrats, and 23% Republican. While Reason-Rupe concludes its report hoping millennials’ anti-partisan tendencies will eventually lead them to a kind of libertarianism — socially liberal and fiscally conservative — as it stands, the young favor a variety of policies that tend to the economic left, with majorities generally favoring government guaranteed living wages, health insurance and food and shelter. Nonetheless, roughly a quarter consider themselves some kind of social conservative, and 40% call themselves socially liberal, with the remainder suspended somewhere in the murky middle.

One way to interpret the seemingly disparate interests of millennials — guaranteed existence minimums on one hand, lower taxes and fractured social issues on the other — is to imagine us as a cohort of politically schizophrenic pajama boys with an entitlement complex and little understanding of how policy works. Another explanation is that the young are merely more attached to their personal ideological commitments, regardless of whether or not they fall along traditional party lines. Along with Gillespie, I think this latter interpretation is right.

This reading is especially credible in light of this year’s Pew Forum political typology report. Pew split Americans by cohesion in values and goals rather than party affiliation, and came up with eight types, including the “faith and family left.” The most racially diverse of the eight types, the faith and family left represents a fascinating innovation on American political sorts, and led Michael Dimock, vice president of the Pew Research Center to observe that “the caricature that all religious people are Republican is just not true.” Whether or not the faith and family left has roped in a sizable constituency of young people just yet, the mere establishment of such a typology on the political landscape could be just the ticket to a new direction for the green set. Why?

According to “Faith in Equality: Economic Justice and the Future of Religious Progressives,” a report released in April of this year by the Brookings Institute, partisan polarization has represented an enormous blockage to religious leftist political engagement up until now:

The staunchly conservative views of the religious right and its unabashed support for the Republican Party has created an expectation in both parties that the faith-based constituencies supporting them on certain issues will act as uncritical supporters of their platforms as a whole. Faith leaders—and this is not unique to either side—often feel they risk losing access to policymakers if they refuse to support the party line on specific issues. “In both parties, the false expectation is that the faith community is supposed to be cheerleaders or chaplains,” Carr said. As a result, he continued, “to have both agreements and disagreements” comes to be seen as “unnatural activity.”

But this obtains only insofar as parties are calling the shots, and parties call the shots only insofar as people are willing to support them, vote the way they’re told, and pump money into them. If the Reason-Rupe and PRRI reports are right, millennials just might be opting out of the partisan approach to politics altogether, which means the partisan leash on religious constituencies might just be fraying. This makes coalitions like the faith and family left — which has commitments all across the political spectrum, founded in faith rather than political expediency — seem a lot more viable in the long run. In short, the weaker the partisan system becomes, the more nuanced the religious story about politics can become. And this means prime time for the Christian left to re-enter the political stage.

And what a smashing re-entry we’re set for, with figures like Pope Francis casually backhanding capitalism and corporate greed in graceful continuity with his praise of family life, solidarity and a culture of life. At this very moment, different factions of the religious left are duking it out over Obama’s proposed executive order banning discrimination against LGBT workers on behalf of federal contractors, and though the diversity of the religious left might concern some, the big picture is that the religious left is a growing force for political influence. As time passes and the mantle of political participation passes from prior partisan generations down to millennials, we might see that influence continue to grow, re-invigorating some of the finest features of the Christian tradition: to resist categorization, pull hard for the oppressed and downtrodden and insist upon hope while coping with the realities of power.

Justice Kennedy says Constitution ‘flawed document’
7/21/14

Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy wasn’t out to make news when he addressed the annual conference of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and devoted most of his 50-minute speech to the Magna Carta, which turns 800 years old in 2015. But Kennedy did let on that he doesn’t belong to the school of Constitution-worshipers who base their legal doctrines on what they glean to be the original, literal meaning of every word and phrase in the nation’s founding document.

“The Constitution of the United States is a flawed document,” Kennedy said at Thursday’s windup conference session in Monterey. By “thinly veiled language,” he said, it “basically reaffirmed the legality of slavery,” referring to provisions that allowed the slave trade to continue at least until 1808 and defined each slave as three-fifths of a person when deciding how many congressional delegates to assign to each state.

The 600,000 who died in the Civil War, Kennedy said, were “one of the things it cost for having a Constitution that was flawed.”

At the same time, he said, the drafters of the Constitution had the insight to declare principles, like due process of law, that could be interpreted anew by future generations — a sacrilege to literalists like Justice Antonin Scalia, who contends the court is strictly bound by what he deems to be the original intent and meaning of the document.

“The framers were wise enough to know that they could not foresee the injustices” of the future, Kennedy said, “so they used general language.”

He then proceeded to a brief, historical defense of Scalia’s 2008 ruling that overturned a ban on handguns in Washington, D.C., and declared that the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to possess at least certain firearms at home.

The Second Amendment, ratified along with the rest of the Bill of Rights in 1791, had been interpreted by the court as late as 1939 to protect only the right to bear arms in a “well-regulated militia.” But Kennedy observed that constitutional understanding can change over time — for example, the 1896 ruling in Plessy vs. Ferguson, which upheld segregation in public transportation as “separate but equal,” wasn’t overturned by the court until the 1954 Brown vs. Board of Education decision, which outlawed school segregation and mandated equal treatment of the races under the Fourteenth Amendment.

By the same token, he said, some critics have claimed that the decades, or the centuries, it took the court to declare an individual right to keep and bear arms “means that it doesn’t exist.”

“I’m not so sure,” said Kennedy, who was part of Scalia’s 5-4 majority in the 2008 ruling.

Cardinal to lead St. Pat parade with 1st gay group
9/4/14

NEW YORK (AP) — There is no more natural spot for Roman Catholic Cardinal Timothy Dolan — a proud, ebullient Irish-American — than grand marshal of the city's historic St. Patrick's Day Parade. But the honor now has an added significance: Parade organizers said Wednesday they will allow the first gay group to march under its own banner.

Dolan was quick to issue a statement of support for the parade organizers, accepting their decision. While supporters of gay and lesbian Catholics are cheering, some conservatives want the archbishop to withdraw from the event.

"I think we're seeing the Catholicism of Pope Francis come to the Archdiocese of New York," said J. Patrick Hornbeck, chairman of the theology department at Fordham University. "Cardinal Dolan's statement is welcoming. He did not make this decision, but sees the parade as an opportunity for unity."

Pope Francis last year said church leaders should focus more on mercy than on divisive social issues. He famously said, "Who am I to judge?" when asked about gays and lesbians who are seeking God.

But Pat Archbold, a writer for the theologically conservative National Catholic Register, called Dolan's decision to remain as grand marshal a "total capitulation to gay identity groups."

Dolan said in a statement the parade organizers have "my confidence and support" and he thanked them for keeping the parade "close to its Catholic heritage." He said he and his predecessors have never determined who could march in the parade, but left that decision to the organizers.

However, in 1993, Cardinal John O'Connor opposed the campaign by the Irish Lesbian and Gay Organization for permission to march under their own banner. More than 200 gay rights protesters staged a countermarch that year and were arrested.

"Irish Catholics have been persecuted for the sole reason that they have refused to compromise church teaching," O'Connor said. "What others may call bigotry, Irish Catholics call principle."

Dolan's position on the parade is the latest of his gentler comments on gays and lesbians.

Last year, Dolan was asked on ABC's "This Week" about gay and lesbian Catholics who felt rejected by the church. "Well, the first thing I'd say to them is, 'I love you, too. And God loves you. And you are made in God's image and likeness,'" Dolan said.

When Missouri defensive end Michael Sam announced he was gay earlier this year, Dolan said, "Good for him."

"I would have no sense of judgment on him. God bless ya," Dolan said in an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press." ''The same Bible that tells us that — teaches us well about the virtues of chastity and — and the virtue of fidelity and marriage also tells us not to judge people. So I would say, 'Bravo.'"

At the St. Patrick's Day Parade last March, Dolan said he supports individual gays and lesbians participating in the parade and hoped it could be a day of unity and joy. "I know that there are thousands and thousands of gay people marching in this parade," he said. "I know it. And I'm glad they are."

The parade has no direct ties to the church, but celebrates a Catholic saint and has always been a key event for the city's Irish Catholics.

Philip Lawler, the Boston-based editor of the theologically conservative Catholic World News, said Dolan should step down as grand marshal.

"My phone has been ringing off the hook with people who are upset," Lawler said. "Cardinal Dolan said, 'I'm sure there have been lots of homosexuals marching in the parade before,' but homosexuals identifying themselves seems a contradiction in honoring a Catholic saint."

Lawler said the New York parade is more of a civic event that has already lost much of its ties to religion. "Why don't we just admit it has no religious significance?" Lawler said.

Francis DeBernardo, executive director of New Ways Ministry, a Catholic gay rights group, said he thinks Dolan feels freer to take positions like his stand on the parade now that he is no longer the president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

"I think he's able to be more of a pastor to the people of New York than he had been when he was on the national stage, bishops primarily are pastors and teachers and I think he's fulfilling that role," DeBernardo said. "I think Pope Francis has been teaching the bishops what being a pastor means."

Trayvon Martin’s attorney encourages students to advocate for social justice

Jasmine Rand, the attorney for Trayvon Martin’s family in the State of Florida v. George Zimmerman trial, spoke at Lehigh on Thursday in a lecture called “Sexualizing Race, Gendering Sex.”

Trayvon Martin was a young African-American man walking home from a 7-Eleven in Sanford, Fla., late at night while wearing a hoodie and holding a package of Skittles. George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch coordinator for Martin’s gated community, shot him for “looking suspicious.”

Throughout the trial that followed the incident, the phrase “I am Trayvon Martin” was used to generate support for the victim.

“That phrase, it was born on a campus,” Rand told the Lehigh students in the audience.

One of Rand’s main focuses throughout the discussion was the impact that students have on the world. Rand was a professor at the time she was called upon to work on the case, and it was her students who coined the “I am Trayvon Martin” phrase.

“She was inspirational in a sense,” Paul Lyons, ’16, said. “She definitely wanted us to think as students. She spoke not as an attorney, but as a professor and a human being. She inspired us to keep thinking and use our voices and to have passion.”

Rand began the presentation by noting certain historical cases regarding “Sexualizing Race and Gendering Sex” to help the audience comprehend how far, or how little, America has come on such issues. She began by discussing lynching, saying, “lynching is not possible without sexualizing race.” For example, she said the majority of those who suffered from lynching were black men who were falsely accused of raping white women.

“Black men’s sexuality was a scapegoat for racializing and taking the black male life,” Rand said.

Just before the jury announced the verdict for the Zimmerman trial, Rand had assured Sybrina Fulton, Trayvon’s mother, that they were likely to win the case. She said having a predominantly white female jury would ensure that they sympathized with Fulton as being a mother who unjustly lost her son.

When they lost the case, Rand said she couldn’t help but think: “Does our history have something to do with it? A history that took the sexuality of white women and pitted them as a victim against black men? Is the reason (the jury) couldn’t identify with themselves as a mother of Trayvon because they saw themselves as a victim of Trayvon?”

Overall, Rand’s main objective was for the students in the audience to understand that they have the capability to ignite social change.

“Leadership is about service,” Rand said. “It’s about humbling yourself to the cause. I had to learn it’s not about me. You cannot place your success on the outcome. Success is when every time life hands you failure (…) you stand up with the same strength and continue to fight for what is right and what is justice.”

Madeleine Centrella, ’18, looked to Rand as an inspiration.

“The ultimate dream for me would be to travel to countries that want to change and develop more democratic legal systems (…) and that’s exactly what Rand did,” she said. “I was really inspired by that because that’s my dream. With everything she’s done, she really ignited a movement. It’s really incredible.”

Rand plans to continue advocating for racial equality and social justice in her future work. She recently began a campaign called “I AM the change.” The goal of the campaign is to apply Trayvon Martin’s identity to multiple cases around the world, she said.

Ted Cruz: Hatred, Bigotry, Opposition to Israel Led to Me Leaving Event

Not supporting anyone here, just saying that "In Defense Of Christians" is a full on Catholic Institution One World Interfaith organization. They are anything BUT Christian.

Not one of these guys is a CHRISTIAN

Reports surfaced Wednesday night that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) was "booed off the stage" at an event hosted by a purportedly Christian organization.

Cruz, the keynote speaker at the new "In Defense Of Christians" organization's dinner in Washington DC, had offered the crowd--a number of whom were Christians from the Middle East, including Palestinian Christians--public support for Israel. After doing so, some members of the crowd booed at Cruz, and they persisted until he left the stage, noting their hatred and saying he can't stand with them if they don't stand with Israel.

"Tonight, in Washington, should have been a night of unity as we came together for the inaugural event for a group that calls itself 'In Defense of Christians.' Instead, it unfortunately deteriorated into a shameful display of bigotry and hatred," Cruz said in a statement provided to Breitbart News. "When I spoke in strong support of Israel and the Jewish people, who are being persecuted and murdered by the same vicious terrorists who are also slaughtering Christians, many Christians in the audience applauded.  But, sadly, a vocal and angry minority of attendees at the conference tried to shout down my expression of solidarity with Israel."

Cruz continued in his statement by noting that detractors "cannot shout down the truth," and the American people "should not shy away from expressing the truth, even in the face of--especially in the face of--ignorance and bigotry."

"I told the attendees that those who hate Israel also hate America," Cruz said. "That those who hate Jews also hate Christians. And that anyone who hates Israel and the Jewish people is not following the teachings of Christ. These statements were met with angry boos. I went on to tell the crowd that Christians in the Middle East have no better friend than Israel. That Christians can practice their faith free of persecution in Israel. And that ISIS, al Qaeda, Hamas, and Hezbollah, along with their state sponsors in Syria and Iran, are all part of the same cancer, murdering Christians and Jews alike. Hate is hate, and murder is murder."

Cruz said he wanted to speak at this event to highlight the threat of ISIS to Christians and Jews worldwide, and he is disappointed that the people there did not agree with him on that.

"I came to this event tonight to help shine a light on the tragic persecution and slaughter of Christians by ISIS and Islamic radicals throughout the Middle East. American leaders have been far too silent as to this horrific evil," Cruz said. "But bigotry and hatred have no place in this discussion.  Antisemitism is a corrosive evil, and it reared its ugly head tonight."

Because of the "bigotry and hatred," Cruz said he had to leave the event.

"After just a few minutes, I had no choice," Cruz said. "I told them that if you will not stand with Israel, if you will not stand with the Jews, then I will not stand with you.  And then I walked off the stage."

Catholic College Decides to Cover Abortions in Healthcare Plan

University announces it will comply with new state regulation

9/30/14

Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles is complying with a State of California mandate to include abortion in the medical services its insurance policy covers, Live Action News reported.

The decision came in the wake of a directive from the director of the state’s Department of Managed Healthcare, Michelle Rouillard.

Los Angeles Loyolan, the campus newspaper, reported on Saturday that LMU’s insurance will cover faculty and staff for elective abortions effective from August 22 to the end of the policy period.

“The news was confirmed in an email sent to faculty and staff yesterday. Vice President for Human Resources Rebecca Chandler confirmed that LMU’s insurance providers will now cover all procedures deemed medically necessary, including elective abortions,” the newspaper reported.

Life Legal Defense Foundation and Alliance Defending Freedom have already filed a complaint with the US Department of Health and Human Services over California’s decision to force the Catholic university to pay for elective abortions in their health insurance plan.

Benjamin J. Brenkert, ex-Jesuit seminarian, writes open letter to pope on homosexuality

Updated October 2, 2014 8:26 PM

An openly gay man who grew up in Valley Stream and spent 10 years in training to become a Jesuit priest has left the Catholic Church and written an open letter to Pope Francis, calling on the church to treat gays and lesbians more fairly.

Benjamin J. Brenkert, 34, who now lives in the Bronx, said he left his studies for the priesthood in July because he was increasingly troubled by cases in which openly homosexual church workers and volunteers across the country -- including Nicholas Coppola of Oceanside -- were removed from positions because of their sexual orientation....

GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY: THE UNAPOLOGETIC BENEFICIARY OF A TERROR REGIME

DESCRIPTION: Georgetown University is the beneficiary of funds from Qatar, the same country which funds Hamas and other terrorist organizations.
Let us imagine a hypothetical scenario, shall we?

You have a friend. In spite of a few personal shortcomings and a penchant for choosing some unsavory friends in his other social groups, from what you can tell, he shares similar ideals, political views and objectives.

One day, your friend approaches you with an idea.  “Why don’t I build and pay for a ‘mother-in-law’ suite in my backyard which you can live in, and you’ll only have to pay for the utilities?”

Surprised, but unwilling to walk away from such an unbelievable deal, you ask “Are you sure?”  Your friend answers gladly, smiling ear to ear, “Of course, my friend!  The pleasure is all mine!”

Sounds like a fantastic arrangement, right?  Only a fool would turn down such an offer.

So, you sublet your apartment and move over to your new quarters in your friend’s expansive backyard, where you discover that he has spared no expense to create a near paradise for you, his very grateful friend.

For ten years, you live in this wonderful home, where your friend rarely intrudes, except to pop in and say hello once in a while.  All seems well – almost too good to be true.

Over time, you begin hearing nasty rumors about your friend.  Sometimes the rumors are downright offensive.  People all over town and throughout the county are saying that your friend is helping his other, unsavory friends commit crimes all over the state.  In fact, they’re even saying that he provided his friends with guns and gas money for their getaway car, before they went on to murder a few families in the course of committing perpetual burglaries around the tri-state area.

Let’s assume further, in this hypothetical scenario, that you choose to defend your friend, in the midst of growing criticism, from your perfect island of comfort that he built for you.  You don’t interview witnesses or investigate these shocking claims for yourself.  In fact, you double-down, and argue that no one is perfect, and point out that your friend has provided you with the deliciously amenable, unobtrusive environment for pursuing your dreams as a writer and social activist.  His critics are ignorant, rushing to judgment, and possibly even Friendophobes.  Other homes on the street have cluttered front yards, loud dogs, and aren’t well manicured.  By comparison, your friend’s home is picturesque.

It’s an absurd scenario, right?  No one’s loyalty could be that misplaced.  But let’s heighten the absurdity of our little scenario.

Let’s say that not only is your friend accused of aiding and abetting criminals, he is accused of funding and supporting global terror… and not just a little, but to the tune of many billions of dollars.  Let’s add that these terrorists have, so far, been responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of men, women and children.

There are rumors, it’s been heard, that the terrorists that your friend is in business with have stated, in no uncertain terms, that their goal is to kill off Christians and destroy Christianity.  Let’s also add that YOU are a Christian, and profess to be in public.

Absurd, isn’t it?  Would anyone in his right mind defend his associations with such a friend, in the face of direct evidence and, additionally, mountains of circumstantial evidence?

The truth is, this hypothetical scenario isn’t hypothetical at all!

Enter Georgetown University.

A little over two weeks ago, a freshman at Georgetown named Ari Goldstein published an honest article in Georgetown’s student newspaper, The Hoya, questioning Georgetown’s relationship with the State of Qatar.  Georgetown has a satellite campus in Qatar’s “Education City”, a campus that is bought and paid for by the Qatar Foundation, which was established by the ruling Al-Thani family of Qatar.

Now, the spread of liberal American education throughout the generally oppressive, some would say very conservative, Middle East sounds like an opportunity to applaud.  It may open eyes, work to change the culture of Qatar and the locals to one more respectful of religious and cultural minorities.  But this sort of fanciful thinking is a dangerous illusion.

It has become increasingly apparent that the State of Qatar is deeply involved in the funding and arming of jihadist groups across the Middle East and North Africa, including: Boko Haram, Ansar al-Sharia, the Taliban, Hamas, al Qaeda and I.S.I.S.  They’re also deeply involved in vast drug and human trafficking operations that span several continents.  If various reinforcing news reports can be taken as credible sources, Qatar has a partner in these nefarious activities with a variety of equally unsavory partners, including: underworld boss Dawood Ibrahim’s D-Company and a symbiotic relationship with Pakistan’s ISI and National Logistics Cell, and Mexican and Latin American cartels.  And, so it seems, a motley crew of (likely unwitting) American-based apologists, including corporate interests, and universities such as Georgetown.

As I outlined in a previous article, Mr. Goldstein stirred up a hornet’s nest of ad hominem and anti-Semitism from defenders of Georgetown’s relationship with Qatar.

Two weeks have now passed since Mr. Goldstein published his piece. Georgetown University and The Hoya had a golden opportunity to stand behind their enterprising and courageous student journalist, Ari Goldstein.  Instead, they have since published two puff-pieces, informing the world about Qatar’s generosity TOWARDS GEORGETOWN.  (See here and here.)

Georgetown defends their relationship with Qatar in two ways.

First, they point out that Qatar has provided a campus for them in Doha’s Education City that is free of outside influence–an “island of academic endeavor” where Georgetown students and staff can learn, study, and pursue their social activism without pressure from the Qatari government.  Nothing like putting on the blinders; or, in this case, having them put on for you.

If it is true that they are unpressured by the Qatari government, why don’t they immediately pursue a campaign in Doha to end Qatar’s practice of importing foreigners from countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh, and India?  These workers are routinely denied basic human rights, such as clean water, the right to leave Qatar, and just and timely compensation.

Georgetown, what say you to this barbaric reality of your host?

Second, Georgetown argues that they are in a unique position to push for social change in Qatar.  While that may or may not be true, I have yet to see a single academic paper originating from SFS-Q (School of Foreign Service in Qatar) that pressures the government of Qatar to cease their funding of murderous jihadist groups.  On the contrary, Georgetown, much like the Brookings Institute (who is also the recipient of hefty Qatari donations) has apparently gone out of its way to NOT criticize Qatar’s foreign policy, regardless of how they may impact U.S. foreign policy or national security.

Georgetown and the Qatari influence on the Obama Administration
I personally question Georgetown’s narrative of effectively pushing for progressive social change, since it appears that the trend has gone in the opposite direction.  Georgetown’s alumni have filled important national security roles within the State Department and in the Obama administration itself, including Jack Lew, a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center.  Lew was replaced by Denis McDonough, a graduate of Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service.  Lew is a member of the Qatar-backed Brookings Institute, and McDonough is a member of the leftist Center for American Progress.

There are others, too: such as Alexander Aleinikoff, who was co-chair of the Obama transition team’s Immigration Policy Review Team.  And Steven M. Kosiak, Associate Director for Defense and International Affairs at the OMB.  And Daniel Pfeiffer, Assistant to the President of the United States and Senior Advisor to the President for Strategy and Communications.  And John Podesta, as Counselor to the President, whose law firm, the Podesta Group has been retained by Lockheed Martin (who continues to sell billions of dollars in sophisticated military grade weaponry to Qatar).

Indeed, one thing that is increasingly apparent is that the Obama administration has a blind side with regard to Qatar and its various funded universities and think tanks.  The Obama administration, and their allies in the House and the Senate, seemingly believe that Qatar, a country of a mere 278,000 citizens on the other side of the world, should have a powerful and influential voice in U.S. foreign policy matters.

Nancy Pelosi recently stated, with regard to this summer’s ugliness between Israel and the Palestinians, “…we have to confer with the Qataris, who have told me, over and over again that Hamas is a humanitarian organization.”  This is nothing short of a declaration of faith in the Qatari state, despite the fact that Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department since 1997.

Is it any surprise that Doha, Qatar is the home to Hamas’ current leader, Khaled Mashal?  In fact, just prior to the recent Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Qatar’s U.N. Envoy was caught trying to funnel $20 million to Hamas.  Conspicuously, many of Georgetown’s current staff and recent alum are apologists for Hamas.  Here’s just one example.

The New York Times recently published an article entitled “Foreign Powers Buy Influence at Think Tanks.”  According to the Times, “’Some scholars say the donations have led to implicit agreements that the research groups would refrain from criticizing the donor governments. If a member of Congress is using the Brookings reports, they should be aware–they are not getting the full story,’ said Saleem Ali, who served as a visiting fellow at the Brookings Doha Center in Qatar and who said he had been told during his job interview that he could not take positions critical of the Qatari government in papers. ‘They may not be getting a false story, but they are not getting the full story.’”

In all fairness, Georgetown’s policy research institutions are arguably not much different than the Brookings Institute or the Center for American Progress.  And I submit that these organizations, along with the many other organizations and corporations that are on the Qatari take, have created one of the most dangerous national security crises in U.S. History.  It was from Qatar, after all, that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the September 11 mastermind, began to formulate his plan of attack.

According to Breitbart:

“Among the titles of Georgetown’s theology courses are:
The Problem of God
Muslims and Politics
Political Theology: The Case of Islam
The First Christians and Christianity Today
Buddhism & Poetry
Islamic Religious Thought and Practice
Judaism: Ancient Tradition and Contemporary Practice
The Latino Church Doing Justice
Qur’an, Pluralism, Fem. Theology
Politics of Gender in World Religions”

As far as Georgetown’s impact on social change in Qatar is concerned, clearly there has been little more than promises from the Qatari government.  Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah recently met with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.  Following the meeting, he remained unconvinced that the Emir was committed to ceasing Qatari support for radical and revolutionary Muslim Brotherhood extremists and regional Jihadist terrorist groups.

In truth, there are so many obvious links between Georgetown and Islamic extremism, I couldn’t begin to fit them all in this article: from Georgetown’s advocacy of Sharia finance, to their employment of the son of Sami Al-Arian (who has pled guilty to terrorism) who has equated Israel to the Islamic State, to their acceptance of funds funneled through designated terrorist front groups.

Perhaps Georgetown University has become confused about the guiding principle of St. Ignatius of Loyola, “Ad maiorem Dei gloriam,” “For the greater glory of God”.  Perhaps it would now be more appropriate for Georgetown to officially follow the creed, “Ad maiorem Allah gloriam”.

In this writer’s opinion, it is not an issue of whether Georgetown believes Qatar is deeply involved in global terrorism or not…the issue is that they simply don’t care.  They have proven this in two short weeks.

I encourage readers to consider the scale of Georgetown’s influence in Washington D.C, the nation’s capital, in this context.

For those interested in further investigating the scale of Qatar’s involvement in global terrorism, drug and human trafficking, I recommend the following articles:

I hate it when the enemy is right(on those rare occasions, that is) - and I really hate it when they craftily mix truth with lies...

'Elections Can't Fix It': Huckabee Says U.S. Needs 'Moral, Spiritual Awakening'

"A mere election won't fix what's wrong with America," Mike Huckabee said in his opening commentary Saturday night.

The Gov. believes the nation is in need a "moral and spiritual awakening" and a "good dose of common sense."

**No Mike - read Revelation 13 - that system of the Antichrist/False Prophet is right around the corner now(if you're bother paying attention to the writing on the wall, that is).

He pointed to many examples of Christians' religious beliefs being infringed upon, while Guantanamo Bay inmates receive special accommodations.

Inmates at Gitmo are now complaining that they won't leave their cells if they're being escorted by a woman.

Huckabee explained that the inmates already get expensive Muslim-approved meals, arrows in their cells pointing to Mecca, and prayer rugs, plus the suspected terrorists can also keep their beards.

"[The Fort Hood attacker] gets to keep his beard, even though it's against military policy, because we don't want to offend his religion. Good God people, he's a terrorist!" said Huckabee.

While the government makes these accommodations for terrorists, "we stomp all over the religious convictions of Americans," he argued.

Huckabee highlighted a recent story about two ministers in Idaho who are facing the threat of fines or possibly jail time because they don't want to perform same-sex weddings.

"Muslims don't accept homosexual marriage either. But when have you heard the Human Rights Commission squealing about the Muslims?" he asked.

Huckabee said while radical Muslims are committing terror attacks in Canada, Oklahoma and New York City, the mayor of Houston is ordering pastors to turn over sermons.

"So where's the Justice Department? Oh, they're making sure Nidal Hasan gets to keep his hairy face," said Huckabee.

**You forgot about the whole 501c3 agenda, Mike. As long as a church is a 501c3, they have to take marching orders from Caesar.

VATICAN REPRESENTATIVE IN ISRAEL DECLARES THAT ‘JEWS NO LONGER THE CHOSEN PEOPLE’
NTEB News Desk | March 20, 2012

VATICAN SAYS ISRAEL’S EXISTENCE AS JEWISH STATE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BIBLE.

“And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” Genesis 12:3

DISCLAIMER: When the Vatican uses phrases such as “we Christians”, NTEB goes on record as saying that we are not part of whatever group it is they are referring to. The bible says that real Christians are to love the Jewish people and to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. NTEB whole-heartedly supports the Jewish people and the literal, visible, physical, modern-day nation of Israel.

From YNET NEWS: In a special interview with Die Tagespost last week, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Fouad Twal, named by Pope Benedict to represent the Vatican in the Jewish State, declared that “Israel’s existence as such has nothing to do with the Bible.” He then compared Christians’ condition in today’s Jerusalem with Jesus’ Passion: “We Christians never forget that even our Lord himself suffered and was mocked in Jerusalem.”

Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Fouad Twal, named by Pope Benedict to represent the Vatican in the Jewish State
“We Christians cannot speak about the Promised Land for the Jewish people”, the synod’s document said. “There is no longer a chosen people. The concept of the promised land cannot be used as a base for the justification of the return of Jews to Israel and the displacement of Palestinians.”

Twal’s position on Israel and the Bible has been embraced at the highest levels in the Catholic Church. The Vatican synod in 2010 declared that Israel cannot use the Biblical concept of a promised land or a chosen people.

A few days ago, Patriarch Twal responded enthusiastically to the agreement reached between Hamas and Fatah. He also denounced “the Judaization of Jerusalem” and attacked Israel for “trying to transform it into an only Hebrew-Jewish city, excluding the other faiths.” Elsewhere, Iraq’s Archbishop, Louis Sako, asked to “separate between Judaism and Zionism.” Indeed, in the most influential quarters of Christianity, Jews are still regarded as an apostate group not entitled to a sovereign state of its own.

Jesus, the Palestinian prince of hope and peace?

Backed by the Catholic clergy, for the first time in history the Palestinians asked the United Nations’ cultural body to register Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity under the name of “Palestine.” According to Omar Awadallah, who heads the UN department in the PA Foreign Ministry,

“Jesus is the Palestinian prince of hope and peace and Christians all over the world want that church to be a World Heritage site.”

In a period when the Vatican’s anguish at the catastrophic decline of Arab Christianity should be palpable, the Catholic Church chooses to demonize Israel and to increase its collaboration with the PLO.

The confirmation comes from the intensity of high profile meetings in recent weeks and the participation of bishops not only from Arab countries, but from Europe and the United States as well.

Elimination of Jewish state has become a priority

Last January, eight Catholic bishops from Europe and North America, including UK Archbishop Patrick Kelly and French Archbishop Michel Dubost, visited Gaza. “I asked prisoners in the largest prison in Europe (in Evry) to pray for you,” Dubost told Gazans. The inference was clear: Palestinians are living in a big prison terrified by Israel. In the same period, Father Manuel Musalam, head of Gaza’s Catholics, met with Hamas leader, Mahmoud al Zahar, and declared that “Christians are not threatened by Muslims” but that everyone faces the same problem, that of Israel’s “humiliation.”

The Vatican’s criminalization of Zionism, which Arab Churches made a basic condition for Muslim-Christian rapprochement, grants the elimination of the Jewish State priority over defending the rights of their own beleaguered communities. After Arab nationalism failed to eliminate Israel, Arab Christianity and the Vatican are now building a Palestinian identity hostile to Israel and the Jews. source – YNET News

No more church ‘quietness’ under Cupich
11/23/14

He’s wasting no time.

Right out of the box, Chicago Archbishop Blase Cupich was standing on the right side.

“The work of comprehensive immigration reform is not important because it is on my agenda, but because it is on God’s,” Cupich proclaimed at his inaugural homily at Holy Name Cathedral last Monday night.

As President Barack Obama announced his immigration executive order last week, Cupich urged that Congress act. “It’s been a long time coming; it’s frustrating things are not moving forward,” ABC7 Chicago quoted him as saying.

Another prominent Chicago Roman Catholic has noticed.

“What I’m hearing so far from Archbishop Cupich is that he is not at all shy about speaking to issues,” Rev. Michael Pfleger told me last week.

The renegade priest never holds back. The longtime pastor of St. Sabina Church has rabbled and roused for social justice and change for decades. Pfleger has loudly driven a host of causes: gun control, battling street violence, denouncing racist policies and practices, championing civil rights.

The firebrand’s run-ins with retiring Cardinal Francis George nearly got him evicted from his parish.

Pfleger says he has spoken briefly with his new leader and is gratified by the archbishop’s embrace of “God’s agenda.”

Cupich has repeatedly and publicly praised Pfleger’s efforts to work with gang members, the police and activists to help cure the epidemic of violence in our communities.

“He said, yes, he knew what we had done and were doing here,” Pfleger recalled. “And we are going to talk, and he wants to talk and do more of it, and he said he’s talked to the mayor about it.”

It was a new day for Pfleger as we chatted at his South Side rectory, the chill sun glancing off the window.

For too long, he says, his church has indulged in an unacceptable “quietness” about the issues his community cares about, he said.

“The church has become so tunnel vision, and so judgmental, and
. . . almost had a spiritual laryngitis of very important issues of poverty, and violence, and guns . . .”

Pope Francis has shifted the moral ground and tapped Cupich to plant new seeds. Cupich is talking about gun violence. Poverty. Inclusion. Tolerance.

“Wow!” Pfleger exclaimed. “I’ve been screaming this for years.” He hopes to meet with Cupich soon to push for new anti-violence initiatives.

As a lifelong Catholic, I have chafed at a church that seemed to care only about abortion, same-sex marriage and condemnation.

Cupich has the clout to make transformative change: He leads a flock of 2.2 million Catholics. He can use his gilded bully pulpit to influence the political biggies, from the governor to the mayor to other top players in Springfield, who lined up for his installation.

Most of those who perish from gun violence on the South and West sides are African-American, and not Catholic. Yet, true moral leadership must reach out to those who Pfleger calls the “throwaways” — who suffer from rampant crime, few jobs and scant hope.

After his elevation last year, Pope Francis asked, “Who am I to judge?” His query came in response to the issue of gays in the church, but it set the stage for his church’s future.

The time for judging is over. It’s time to act.

Missouri governor reaches out to St. Louis clergy

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon is reaching out to St. Louis-area clergy in advance of a grand jury announcement on whether a white police officer will be charged for fatally shooting a black 18-year-old.

The announcement expected Monday evening comes more than three months after Ferguson officer Darren Wilson shot Michael Brown, triggering weeks of protests.

The Rev. Ronald Bobo Sr. says he and other clergy have been invited to participate in a conference call with the governor.

Nixon also was to hold a 5:30 p.m. news conference at the University of Missouri-St. Louis with the state public-safety director and St. Louis city and county officials. The governor's office says Nixon is calling for peace and outlining "preparations to protect the public and free speech" if more protests occur.

I Hated the Idea of Becoming Catholic

Or, how I found the Catholic faith at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

6/20/14

But just a few weeks later, I ran into more doubts. We were learning about spiritual disciplines like prayer and fasting and I was struck by how often the professor would skip from St. Paul to Martin Luther or Jonathan Edwards when describing admirable lives of piety. Did nothing worthwhile happen in the first 1500 years? The skipping of history would continue in many other classes and assigned reading. The majority of pre-Reformation church history was ignored.

I soon discovered I had less in common with the early Church fathers than I thought. Unlike most Christians in history, communion had always been for me an occasional eating of bread and grape juice, and baptism was only important after someone had gotten “saved.” Not only did these views contradict much of Church history but, increasingly, they did not match with uncomfortable Bible passages I had always shrugged off (John 6, Romans 6, etc).

Other questions that I had buried began to reappear, no longer docile but ferocious, demanding an answer. Where did the Bible come from? Why didn’t the Bible claim to be “sufficient”? The Protestant answers that had held me over in the last year were no longer satisfying.

Jefferson Bethke’s viral YouTube video, “Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus,” was released during this time. The young man meant well, but to me he only validated what the Wall Street Journal called “the dangerous theological anarchy of young evangelicals,” attempting to remove Jesus from the confines of religion but losing so much in the process.

Ash Wednesday was the tipping point. A hip Southern Baptist church in Louisville held a morning Ash Wednesday service and many students showed up to classes with ashes on their forehead. At chapel that afternoon, a professor renowned for his apologetic efforts against Catholicism expounded upon the beauty of this thousand year old tradition.

Afterwards, I asked a seminary friend why most evangelicals had rejected this beautiful thing. He responded with something about Pharisees and “man-made traditions.”

I shook my head. “I can’t do this anymore.”

My resistance to Catholicism started to fade. I was feeling drawn to the sacraments, sacramentals, physical manifestations of God’s grace, the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. No more borrowing, no more denying.

It was the next day that I called my mom and told her I thought I was going to become Catholic.

I didn’t go to classes on Friday. I went to the seminary library and checked out books I had previously forbidden myself to look at too closely, like the Catechism and Pope Benedict’s latest. I felt like I was checking out ****. Later, I drove to a 5pm Saturday Mass. The gorgeous crucifix at the front of the church reminded me of when I had mused that crucifixes demonstrated that Catholics didn’t really understand the resurrection.

But I saw the crucifix differently this time and began crying. “Jesus, my suffering savior, you’re here.”

A peace came over me until Tuesday, when it yielded to face-to-windshield reality. Should I stay or leave? I had several panicked phone calls: “I literally have no idea what I am going to do tomorrow morning.”

On Wednesday morning I woke up, opened my laptop, and typed out “77 Reasons I Am Leaving Evangelicalism.” The list included things like sola scriptura, justification, authority, the Eucharist, history, beauty, and continuity between the Old and New Testament. The headlines and the ensuing paragraphs flowed from my fingers like water bursting from a centuries-old dam.

A few hours later on February 29, 2012 I slipped out of Louisville, Kentucky, eager to not confuse anyone else and hoping I wasn’t making a mistake.

The next few months were painful. More than anything else I felt ashamed and defensive, uncertain of how so much of my identity and career path could be upended so quickly. Nonetheless, I joined the Church on Pentecost with the support of my family and started looking for work.

So much has changed since then. I met Jackie on CatholicMatch.com that June, got married a year later, and celebrated the birth of our daughter, Evelyn, on March 3rd, 2014. We’re now in Indiana and I’m happy at my job.

I’m still very new on this Catholic journey. To all inquirers out there, I can tell you that my relationship with God has deepened and strengthened. As I get involved in our parish, I’m so thankful for the love of evangelism and the Bible that I learned in Protestantism.

I have not so much left my former faith as I have filled in the gaps. I thank God for the fullness of the Catholic faith.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you can see - he likely was never a born-again believer in the true faith, but had the seeds of doubt planted in him(since his days as an "evangelical") from day 1.

Coming to Your Bible
Issue Date: January/February 2015

A recent article in Christianity Today is headlined: “Pop Francis: Why Everyone Loves the Pope.” It lauds Francis’ “unscripted” style “committed to breaking down the often-bitter rivalry between evangelicals and Catholics.” It mentions his recent apology to Italian Evangelicals for the Catholic religion’s participation in persecution of Pentecostals prior to World War II.

Note this statement from the article: “At the Second Vatican Council, the Catholic Church adopted a much more biblical approach, transforming its worship and fundamentally changing its relation to modern secular culture.”

How does a new PR campaign and an updated system of rituals make it more biblical? To be more biblical, purgatory would have to go, along with worship of the wafer-god and virgin goddess, works salvation, and the pope’s claim that tradition and the Magisterium are equal to or supersede Scripture.

Even after all these changes, we would have to ask, which Bible? Author David W. Daniels points out in his book, Why They Changed the Bible, how all modern Bibles are increasingly slanted to support Rome’s pagan dogmas. An entire section is devoted to the scheme to include the Apocrypha in the Bible. He describes how the Bible societies were, from the beginning, infiltrated with Jesuits or Vatican sympathizers. Bible societies agreed not only to change text wording to favor unbiblical Catholic teaching, but to add in the Apocrypha whenever requested. Bible translators all over the world are subject to a 1960s agreement with the Vatican to add the Apocrypha to any translation if the Catholic people groups ask for it. The history and tragic results of this are detailed in Why They Changed the Bible.

Seminaries all over the world are starting to require their students to get Bibles complete with something called the “Deuterocanonicals.” This is another word for what we know as the Apocrypha. It is also a deceptive word. It makes the reader think these fairytales, superstitions and occultism are actually a “secondary canon” on a level just below scripture —“scripture lite.” The truth is that they have raised men’s words to the level of God’s words and have lowered God’s words to the level of man’s.

The Vatican desperately needs the Apocrypha in the Bible. When they cannot distort a Bible passage to fit one of their pagan doctrines, they resort to the Apocrypha. For example, their teaching of purgatory is based on the Apocryphal books of 2 Maccabees 12:45 and Tobit 12:9. Using money to pay for sins  appears in Ecclesiasticus 3:30 “Water will quench a flaming fire; and alms maketh an atonement for sins.”

The Apocrypha also contains such strange advice as using smoked fish liver to dispel demons (Tobit 6), and suggest that suicide, in some cases, is manly and noble (2 Maccabees 14:37-46). Strange historical inaccuracies also appear, such as the death records of Antiochus Epiphanes, who must have died twice when you compare 2 Maccabees 2:13-16 to 9:1-29. A search of Christianbook.com turns up 46 items for sale related to the Deuterocanonicals/Apocrypha, with over two dozen Bibles that include them. Supposedly these are only for Roman Catholics, but Daniels’ research discovered that the groundwork has been laid over the decades within the Bible Societies to ultimately produce a Bible with the Apocrypha and subtle watering-down to create one world Bible for one world religion. This Jesuit pope’s PR campaign continues to sugarcoat the bait in the trap for Evangelicals who have already swallowed the poison of the modern (Catholic) versions.

Coincidence? Shocked

Michael Sam Proposes To Boyfriend . . . At The Vatican
1/16/15

Michael Sam is back in the news and this time he is attempting to make a very big statement.

Sam proposed to his longtime boyfriend, Vito Cammisano, inside St. Peter’s Basilica, which is in Vatican City.

Sam posted a photo of himself dropping to one knee with a view of the Vatican behind. Considering the Catholic Church is still for traditional marriage, this is a rather provocative statement.

Sam was to be the first openly gay football player in the NFL but was cut from the St. Louis Rams before being cut from the Dallas Cowboys practice squad.

Egypt suspends football league after Cairo stadium deaths

The Egyptian authorities have suspended football league matches indefinitely after at least 22 fans were killed in clashes with police at a Cairo stadium.

People were crushed in a stampede after police fired tear gas at supporters of Zamalek who were trying to gain entry to a match against city rivals ENPPI.

The fans blamed police for forcing them through a narrow, fenced-in passageway.

President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi has expressed "great sorrow" over the deaths and promised an investigation.

The Egyptian Premier League was last suspended in February 2012 after 74 fans were killed in a riot at a match in Port Said.

The league resumed the following year, but supporters were banned from attending matches until last December. Since then, limited numbers have been allowed into stadiums.

'Martyrs'
State media reported that only 5,000 tickets were made available for sale to the public for Sunday evening's match between Zamalek and ENPPI at the 30,000-capacity Air Defense Stadium in the east of the capital.

But thousands of ticketless Zamalek fans reportedly tried to gain entry anyway.

The interior ministry said they had "attempted to storm the stadium gates by force, which prompted police to prevent them from continuing the assault", setting off a deadly stampede.

"Because of the stampede, some choked and died from asphyxiation, while the rest died from being trampled," a police official told the state-run newspaper, al-Ahram.

But the Zamalek supporters' group, the White Knights, said the stampede began when police fired tear gas at a crowd being forced to pass through a fenced-in passageway about 3.7m (12ft) wide.

"[The] iron cage inside which most people died was installed a day before the match and it has never been used in any country of the world," a statement on Facebook said.

Remember when Constantine made "Christianity" a national religion in the 4th century - there's nothing new under the sun...looks like they're doing it yet again, albeit craftily via the feminist agenda(yes, even the feminist movement works both sides of the aisle).

http://www.slate.com/blogs/xx_factor/2015/02/25/republican_women_are_more_religious_and_theocratic_than_republican_men_new.html

Why Do Women Vote Republican?

A new poll from Public Policy Polling is making headlines this week because it reveals that 57 percent of Republican primary voters want to make Christianity the national religion, even though doing so would require removing the First Amendment from the Constitution. Even more interestingly, the data shows a stark gender divide among Republicans polled on this question: 66 percent of Republican women versus 49 percent of Republican men would like to see America become more theocratic.

Overall, the data suggests that there may be an intriguing gender divide when it comes to the motivations of Republican voters, with results showing men to be more motivated by economic reasons and women drawn to conservative politics for more religious and social reasons. Other interesting gender gaps: Men are nearly twice as likely as women to identify themselves as “Tea Party”; 73 percent of Republican men refuse to accept that climate change is real, compared with 57 percent of Republican women; and Republican men are actually more likely than Republican women to accept evolutionary theory, with 43 percent of men versus 30 percent of women expressing a belief in evolution. Since climate change denialism is more tied up in anti-environmentalist sentiment and evolution denialism is primarily about religion, this divide makes perfect sense.

The gender divide persists when the poll looks at which potential primary candidates male and female Republicans support. Politicians who are seen as more libertarian or more supportive of corporate interests (Rand Paul, Scott Walker) get more love from men, whereas candidates that are more on the Bible-thumping side of the equation (Mike Huckabee) are more popular with women. Of all potential candidates, Huckabee had the highest favorability rating among women.

There's been an increased interest in recent years in what motivates Republican women, particularly as the party has amped up its assault on reproductive rights. This data, which jibes with countless studies have shown that women are more likely to be religious than men, helps answer that question: It's religion.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And if you walk into any typical Babel building nowdays - the majority of the pews in it are WOMEN, why? B/c either they are divorced, their husbands aren't interested, or their husbands are too busy to provide for their families the "American Dream"!

1Timothy 2:11  Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
1Ti 2:12  But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
1Ti 2:13  For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
1Ti 2:14  And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
1Ti 2:15  Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

Titus 2:3  The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
Tit 2:4  That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
Tit 2:5  To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

10 Plans Christian Radicals Have For America

A fundamentalist Christian ideology called Dominionism is currently infiltrating a segment of the Christian Right. As a political movement, it seeks to overthrow democracy and transform America into a biblical theocracy. Also known as Christian Reconstructionism, it cuts across denominational lines but does not represent mainstream American Christianity. Many Christians even see it as a heresy and perversion of the gospels. Within the movement are differing views, and its broad complexity should caution us from labeling it as a monolithic conspiracy. Liberals are often accused of exaggerating the Dominionist threat and are called paranoid conspiracy theorists. But whatever the true numbers of those who hold this radical doctrine, they exert a powerful influence on policy makers of the right wing.

10 The Seven Mountains Mandate

Dominionists believe that Jesus Christ is not going to return until He has gained control of the world’s nations through Christians. This is how they interpret Jesus’s command “Occupy till I come.” The Dominionist blueprint for “reclaiming America for Christ” is spelled out in the Seven Mountains Mandate—Christian takeover and control of the “seven mountains” of society: business, government, media, arts and entertainment, EDUCATION, family, and religion. Lance Wallnau, a leading Seven Mountains theologian, explains that Christians must install a theocracy governed by “true apostles” to battle Satan and his Antichrist.Wallnau envisions the conquest of the Seven Mountains as a covert operation. He said, “[A] very small minority of people . . . as small as 3–5 percent . . . can control how the agenda works in a nation and thus create or dominate the culture.” The Seven Mountains concept was first enunciated as a supposed revelation from God given simultaneously in 1975 to two “generals” of the faith, Loren Cunningham of Youth With A Mission and Bill Bright of the Campus Crusade For Christ. In all likelihood, they plagiarized it from a TV talk by theologian Dr. Francis Shaffer. The mountains are portrayed as “mind molders” by which the “rulers of darkness” influence people, leading to such trends as gay marriage, pornography, and abortion.

9 Capture The Republican Party

Perhaps most of us are wondering why, in spite of the Constitution, there seems to be a religious test for those seeking public office in the US. The Republican Party in particular has made it an unwritten premise that a candidate’s faith is a matter of public debate. Local party meetings feature activists determined to bring “biblical principles” into government. How did the party of Lincoln become, in the words of an insider, “more religious cult than a political organization”? To conquer the Seven Mountains, Dominionists are stealthily infiltrating the GOP and increasing their political influence. Recent presidential candidates Rick Perry and Michelle Bachmann have ties to Dominionist groups. In 1979, GOP strategist Paul Weyrich politically mobilized factions of fundamentalist, Pentecostal, and charismatic churches under the umbrella term “Moral Majority.” It was led by Rev. Jerry Fallwell. Weyrich made no secret of its goal: “We are talking about Christianizing America. We are talking about simply spreading the gospel in a political context.” The clout of the Religious Right became apparent in the 1980 elections, when it unseated liberal Democrats in the Senate and helped propel Ronald Reagan into the White House. The Moral Majority is no longer around, but Pat Robertson’s Christian Coalition has CONTINUED its work. “We want . . . as soon as possible to see a majority of the Republican Party in the hands of pro-family Christians,” Robertson declared in 1992. He and fellow pastors have schools and universities to train Christians how to run for public offices and how to influence policy once in power. Robertson named his institution Regent University because its students are destined to take over the government as Christ’s “regents.” Robertson himself made a losing bid for the presidency in 1988.Robertson did not mince words: “We are not going to stand for those coercive utopians in the Supreme Court and in Washington ruling over us anymore. We’re not gonna stand for it. We are going to say, ‘we want freedom in this country, and we want power.’ ”

8 The End Of Pluralism

In a disturbing rant, Randall Terry, founder of the anti-abortion group Operation Rescue, said: “I want you to just let a wave of intolerance wash over you. I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you. Yes, hate is good . . . Our goal is a Christian nation. We have a biblical duty, we are called on by God to conquer this country. We don’t want equal time. We don’t want pluralism.” Once Dominionists are in power, only one religion and lifestyle will be recognized—fundamentalist Christianity. Democracy and Christian nationalism are diametrically opposed. While theocrats will invoke the religious liberty guaranteed by the Constitution to further their agenda, they have no intention of keeping it when they win. Gary North, one of the movement’s ideological founders, made their goal clear: ” . . . a Bible-based social, political, and religious order, which finally denies the religious liberty of the enemies of God.” They view the system that treats everybody equally as the greatest obstacle in their plans.Secular humanism and all systems that bypass biblical knowledge will have to go. The “us vs. them” mentality that treats the rest of the non-Christian world as satanic will make pluralism impossible. Rick Joyner admits, “At first it may seem like totalitarianism, as the Lord will destroy the antichrist spirit now dominating the world.” But he assures those willing to be deluded that the Kingdom of Christ “will move toward increasing liberty.” That would be “liberty” as defined by a Fascist dictionary somewhere.

7 Undermining The Constitution

The US Constitution, the bedrock upon which pluralism thrives, will obviously have to be abrogated or else reinterpreted under the Dominionists. In its place will be a government based on Old Testament laws. The Law of Moses features, among other things, 1) the death penalty for idolaters, i.e. non-Christians, 2) the likelihood of the reinstitution of slavery, 3) abolition of the income tax in favor of the tithing system, and 4) elimination of the prison system in favor of the system of restitution for non-capital offenses. Dominionists themselves are divided on how to apply these archaic biblical laws to modern America. Not all of them are keen on reintroducing slavery, but some do think that its legalization would be a good thing. While a majority support the death penalty, they differ on the method of execution. Strangely, though polygamy was permitted in ancient Israel, they define marriage as between one man and one woman. It is also unclear what they will do in the “Jubilee Year,” when estranged property is supposed to revert to its original owners. Will they give back the land to Native Americans (the Christian ones, of course)? Will they return Hawaii to the Hawaiians? The Christian Right has the means to exploit loopholes through the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), its legal advocacy arm. Founded by Pat Robertson and armed with a $30 million annual budget, it seeks to overturn rulings the Right abhors, like Roe vs. Wade. It is also noteworthy that ACLJ supported the Bush administration in its holding Guantanamo detainees without charges and without trial. In a Public Policy Polling survey released on February 24, 2015, an astonishing 57 percent of Republicans favor abandoning the Constitution to make the US a Christian nation. Only 30 percent are opposed, and 13 percent are not sure.

6 Death Penalty For Gays And Rebellious Teens

Being a worshiper of false gods (i.e., non-Christian) is not the only capital crime under Mosaic Law, besides murder and ****. Dominionists believe those deserving the death penalty include homosexuals, children who struck their parents, brides who were unchaste before marriage, juvenile delinquents, psychics (“false prophets”), adulterers, and blasphemers.(**But Rick Warren and these wicked Emergent Church leaders get a free ride, eh?) Executions would be made public with full participation of the community, like square dances and quilting bees. Gary North prefers stoning as the method of killing because stones cost nothing and are readily available.North laments that our humanist society paints the Mosaic Law as barbaric. He himself has no problems executing rebellious teens: “The integrity of the family must be maintained by the threat of death.” What’s more, North says that those accusing a suspect of a capital crime must be among the executioners. For citizens to arm themselves in self-defense is a mark of their judicial sovereignty, North asserts, something gun control advocates want to take away. He extends this concept of judicial sovereignty to executions. He doesn’t want people to delegate the task to agents of the state. Participation in public executions is “an act of citizenship.” How does this system propose to deal with perjury and false accusation? Perjury would be considered a crime against the accused, not against the court as in the present system. False witnesses will suffer the same penalty supposed to be imposed on the accused had they been found guilty. North believes that the Mosaic system of justice will actually reduce perjury in courts.

5 Historical Revisionism

David Barton is a pseudohistorian obsessed with altering historical facts to portray America as a Christian nation founded on biblical principles. This makes him a darling of the Right, with an enthusiastic Mike Huckabee proclaiming him America’s greatest historian, who should be writing the curriculum for the schools. Huckabee suggested (in jest, presumably) that all Americans should be “forced at gunpoint” to listen to Barton. To Glenn Beck, he is “the most important man in America.” Such accolades come in the wake of Barton’s best-selling books, which claim that the Founding Fathers were devout Christians inspired by colonial preachers to found a society based on the biblical model. Barton teaches that America’s constitutional government was patterned after the ancient Hebrew “federative republic.” He accuses academics of hiding these truths from the average citizen. In response, academics and even fellow conservatives have exposed Barton’s lies and errors. Barton is caught distorting or even inventing quotes placed on the lips of deist Founding Fathers to prove his point. One blatant example of Barton’s deception is his quote of John Adams’s letter to Benjamin Rush in 1809. In it, Adams says: “There is no authority, civil or religious—there can be no legitimate government—but what is administered by this Holy Ghost. There can be no salvation without it—all without it is rebellion and perdition, or, in more orthodox words, damnation.” Barton makes it sound like Adams was proposing a government led by the Holy Ghost. But Barton has left out the last part of the quote, in which Adams mocks the very notion: “Although this is all Artifice and Cunning in the secret original in the heart, yet they all believe it so sincerely that they would lay down their Lives under the Axe or the fiery Fagot for it. Alas the poor weak ignorant Dupe human Nature.”Barton makes the tortuous argument that the Constitution, which never once mentions God, is in fact a godly document because it makes a passing reference to the Declaration of Independence which does mention a “Creator” (a deist Creator, alas for Barton). Barton was also forced to admit that he fabricated out of thin air a supposed quote from James Madison in which the staunch advocate of church-state separation was made to beseech Americans to “govern ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God.” David Barton is a propagandist masquerading as a historian. Though exposed as a fraud, he remains unrepentant.

4 Abolition Of Medicare And Social Security

Dominionists base their economics on Deuteronomy 28, the “Blessings and Cursings” chapter of the Pentateuch. They believe that wealth is a sign of God’s favor, and poverty and illness are visitations of His displeasure and wrath. The poor and sick deserve their lot. It is God’s way to prick their conscience and provoke introspection. Therefore, governments who seek to alleviate their plight are contravening God’s will. Poverty is not seen as a problem to be solved. This is why Dominionists view Social Security and Medicare as evil programs that take money from others to give to those being punished. In a 700 Club interview, economics professor Dr. Walter Williams gave this rationalization: “I think Christians should recognize that charity is good. I mean charity, when you reach into your pocket to help your fellow man for medical care or for food or to give them housing. But what the government is doing to help these older citizens is not charity at all. It is theft. That is, the government is using power to confiscate property that belongs to one American and give, or confiscate their money, and provide services for another set of Americans to whom it does not belong.” The Right’s creed of “personal responsibility” has no place for such economic safety nets. If you die of hunger, that’s your fault. Or, in the case of senior citizens, your children’s or family’s fault for not taking care of you.If on the other hand, you’ve become filthy rich—well, the Lord must be mighty proud of you. So for the government to lay more taxes on you to even out the playing field is an abomination. It is God’s intention that the rich get richer. Charismatic pastor Larry Huch predicts an “end-time transfer of wealth” to blessed Christians who are destined to become God’s bankers. The Dominionists’ promotion of laissez-faire economics of minimum government intervention in business, and repudiation of its licensing and regulatory powers, can thus be seen as self-serving.

3 Abolition Of Public Education

Christian theocrats are aware that they cannot hope to spread their miseducation through the present public school system, which propagates secular knowledge and values. In its place, they want a Christian-sponsored educational system that will assure that children are indoctrinated into fundamentalism, have daily prayers, teach creationism, do away with sex education, and propagate David Barton’s false history. “I hope to see the day when, as in the early days of our country, we don’t have public schools,” wrote the Rev. Jerry Fallwell. “The churches will have taken them over again, and Christians will be running them.” Michelle Bachmann once started a charter school to replace the “godless” secular schools but was forced out of the board of directors when she proselytized the students. Before a takeover happens, Christian parents are urged to take their children out of public schools to be homeschooled instead. A glimpse into a Dominionist homeschool gives us an idea on what American kids could expect to learn once Dominionists have taken over:Government: “All governments are ordained by God, but none compare to government by God, theocracy.”Economics: “We present free-enterprise economics without apology and point out the dangers of communism, socialism, and liberalism to the well-being of people across the globe.”Science: ” . . . the universe as the direct creation of God and refutes the man-made idea of evolution.”Math: “Unlike the ‘modern math’ theorists, who believe that mathematics is a creation of man and thus arbitrary and relative, we believe that the laws of mathematics are a creation of God and thus absolute . . . [These books provide] mathematics texts that are not burdened with modern theories such as set theory . . . ”

2 Female Subservience

We read in Ephesians 5:22: “Let women be subject to their husbands, as to the Lord.” This forms the basis of women’s roles in the proposed theocracy. Simply put, it will mark the end of gender equality and women’s rights. Women will be relegated to the home, pleasing their husbands, taking care of the kids, and making more babies, or as a critic put it, “dishwashing, suckling and sex.” The Dominionist newsletter Chalcedon Report deplored the situation in America today: “The devastating curse of women ruling over men is getting the press it deserves today . . . Our nation is under judgment. As the home goes, so goes the nation.”Young girls are taught that their place is in the home and that any desire for a college degree or a job outside the home is prideful and sinful. Homeschooler Doug Phillips says, “Daughters, by no means, are not to be independent. They’re not to act outside the scope of their father, and then later, their husbands. As long as they’re under the authority of their fathers, fathers have the ability to nullify or not the oaths and the vows. Daughters can’t just go out independently and say, ‘I’m going to do this or marry whoever I want.’ ” Once married, they are encouraged to “pop out some kids” to swell the ranks of Christian soldiers. So says Leah Smith in her to-do list for dominion, where she prompts Christian mothers to “get busy” and outstrip the Muslim birthrate (six kids per household average). Besides household skills, girls should learn apologetics, theology, and evangelism. Smith tells the ladies to “go back to being women, with joy and celebration” as slaves of men.

1 World War III

If Dominionism poses a threat to American democracy, it is even more dangerous to world peace and stability. Dominionists taking over the US would give America’s nuclear stockpile to religious fundamentalists with an apocalyptic mentality. And recent news has shown us that religious fanaticism and military firepower are a lethal mix. Consider Lt. Gen. William Boykin, who can be described as a Christian Jihadist. He believes in holy war against Islam, with the US military as God’s army. He reports seeing demonic entities in photos of fighting in Somalia, enemies who “will only be defeated if we come against them in the name of Jesus.” Incredibly, this intolerant warmonger became deputy Undersecretary of Defense for intelligence. With people like Boykin in command positions, World War III just might be the mother of all religious wars. With a mindset that regards Israel as an important player in the prophetic end-times drama, the Christian Right is also against a peaceful resolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Palestinians are illegal occupants of the land God gave to His chosen people and there could never be a compromise, a two-state solution. Dominionists can also self-righteously justify overthrowing foreign governments not Christian enough to their liking. Since the US already has a long history of such interventions, only a change in rationale from political to religious is needed. The gap between the US and Europe may also widen, with Christians mistrusting the secular and irreligious tendencies of their trans-Atlantic allies. The end of the European partnership would have detrimental effects on global economy and SECURITY.

Fordham University Theology Department Chairman Marries Another Man
Catholic school defends his "constitutional right to get married"

7/4/15

The chairman of the theology department at Fordham University has gotten married—to another man.

The New York Times, which up until a few years ago, declined running wedding announcements involving same-sex couples, reported that J. Patrick Hornbeck II “married” Patrick Anthony Bergquist Saturday at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Manhattan. The ceremony took place June 27, just a day after the US Supreme Court legalized same-sex “marriage” nationwide. That would not have been necessary legally, since New York State has allowed gay "marriage" since 2011. But the ceremony was conducted before the Episcopal Church in America voted this week to allow same-sex "marriage" rites in its churches.

When asked whether Fordham was concerned about having a professor of theology whose lifestyle choice is in opposition to the teaching of the Catholic Church about marriage, a spokesman for the university said Hornbeck has the right to get married.

“While Catholic teachings do not support same-sex marriage, we wish Professor Hornbeck and his spouse a rich life filled with many blessings on the occasion of their wedding in the Episcopal Church,” said Bob Howe, Fordham's senior director of communications. “Professor Hornbeck is a member of the Fordham community, and like all University employees, students and alumni, is entitled to human dignity without regard to race, creed, gender, and sexual orientation.”

Howe emphasized that same-sex unions are “now the law of the land, and Professor Hornbeck has the same constitutional right to marriage as all Americans.”

Hornbeck, 33, teaches medieval and reformation history at Fordham. He graduated from Georgetown. His mother is an administrative assistant at Brophy College Preparatory, a Jesuit high school for boys in Phoenix. Bergquist, 35, is director of children, youth and family ministries at St. Bartholomew’s, where the couple "married."

An automated email response from Hornbeck indicated that he would "be away from my email altogether from June 27
until July 5."

In 2014, Hornbeck participated in a symposium at Fordham titled “Who Am I to Judge? How Pope Francis Is Changing the Church.”

“In the last 18 months Pope Francis has taken the Catholic world by storm,” Hornbeck in promotional material for the symposium, which was to focus on “the future of Catholicism as well as examine recent public statements from the pope on subjects that range from the role of LGBT persons in the church, to the restructuring of the Vatican Bank, to unmarried couples and divorce.

“American Catholics and their church have not been on the same page for some time,” said Hornbeck. “But now the pope is opening up space for dialogue.”

Meanwhile, a Catholic school in Macon, Ga., is facing a federal discrimination lawsuit from a former teacher whose employment was terminated in 2014 after the school found that he would be legally marrying his same-sex partner, the Cardinal Newman Society reported.
