The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.”

Iranian Grad Student at Georgia Tech Severely Injured Making Homemade Bombs

his story has gotten very little play in the mainstream press but the details raise some serious red flags.

Jennifer Kabbany of The College Fix reports.

Wanted: Answers On Iranian Grad Student at Georgia Tech’s Homemade Bombs

Conservative news watchers want more answers on why an Iranian grad student at George Tech nearly burned himself to death making homemade bombs inside his apartment.

The incident happened in early February, but gained new steam over the weekend after Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit and Jim Treacher at The Daily Caller posted items on the explosion, which sent Saamer Akhshabi to the hospital with third-degree burns over 90 percent of his body.

    “Sounds suspicious,” Reynolds wrote.

Treacher posited: “Why was he making them? I have no idea, because this only made the local news in Atlanta and there was no follow-up. Nobody’s curious about why this guy was making firebombs in his apartment.”

According to First Coast News, “Atlanta police (say) … lighter fluid and a charred pillow and mattress were found inside the apartment, along with the Molotov cocktail and several plastic bottles filled with gasoline and kerosene.

“Akhshabi was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital,” the report states. “His biography on Georgia Tech’s website says he’s a PhD student in the school’s College of Computing and attended the University of Tehran in his native Iran before coming to Georgia.”

While the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and Homeland Security were notified, the Atlanta Business Journal claimed two days after the explosion there was “no criminal intent.” Hhhmmm.

Treacher pointed out that whatever Akhshabi was doing, he definitely wasn’t going to lob Molotov cocktails at President Obama. The student’s Twitter account included several Tweets touting how wonderful Obamacare is.

“According to Akhshabi’s personal page at the Georgia Tech site, he’s ‘interested in Internet evolution, evolutionary network modeling, and adaptive video streaming.’ He forgot ‘making improvised incendiary devices,’” Treacher quipped. “Why was he doing that? How did he burn himself so badly? Just goofing around?”

Iranian Georgia Tech Student Injured Making Bombs Has Died

Last week we told you about Saamer Akhshabi, an Iranian grad student at Georgia Tech who suffered burns over most of his body when the bombs he was making exploded. He has died due to his injuries.

I’m really amazed this story came and went with no attention from national media. Jim Treacher of the Daily Caller has the story.

    Saamer Akhshabi has died

If you don’t know who Saamer Akhshabi was, that’s because you’re not supposed to. This is yet another “local crime story.”

    Alexis Stevens, Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

The Georgia Tech graduate student burned over 90 percent of his body last month died Thursday, the Institute said.

Saamer Akhshabi was burned in a Feb. 4 explosion inside his apartment, where investigators found a suspected Molotov cocktail and several plastic bottles filled with gasoline and kerosene. Akhshabi, 26, was transported in critical condition to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died early Thursday, Georgia Tech shared with the campus.

Whoa. Why was this guy making Molotov cocktails?

“We have worked closely with other law enforcement agencies during the investigation of this tragic incident,” Robert Connolly, interim police chief for Georgia Tech, said in an emailed statement. “The FBI has relayed that, to date, they have not developed any information or evidence indicating criminal intent in this investigation.”

Investigators determined that Akhshabi was not a threat to the Georgia Tech community, Connolly said. But no information was released regarding why Akhshabi had the explosive materials.

Well, what more information do you need? The Iranian grad student was relaxing at home, making firebombs just for the fun of it, and somehow he managed to burn himself so badly that he died a month later. What else is new? These things happen.
