Image of Jesus Appears on Screen Door in Texas

Throughout this past year, a number of different people have claimed to see the image of Jesus Christ in some of the most unlikely places, and while many remain skeptical, others are inspired by the thought that the Savior could appear in ordinary places. Texas resident Lupita la Bourdette said one such image appeared to her on the screen door leading into her home.

“This is something that people have to see to believe,” la Bourdette, a Catholic, told KRGV reporters. “When I saw it, I wanted to cry. It impressed me so much.”

The resident of Pharr, Texas, said the image of Jesus and his mother Mary, whom she says appears to be holding a baby, showed up on the metal screen six years ago, shortly after she had a dream in which a little girl told her to pray for the world because “a lot of bad things are going to happen.”

She didn't think others would believe her, but on Tuesday, All Saints Day, la Bourdette finally shared her secret. She and another area resident, Maria Elena Graciano, hope that the images will inspire belief and hope in those living in the area who are in need of something to believe in.

“God is here with us on earth. Many people don't believe that. And He's here with His son,” Graciano told KRGV. She said anyone is welcome to go and see the image, but asks that those interested in leaving money just leave a rose instead.

The screen-door Jesus is just one of several similar images that have made headlines this year.

In June, N.C. residents living near the town of Kinston said a pole covered in vines assumed the appearance of the Savior on the cross. The plant that took over the pole, and part of the wires connected to it, is called kudzu and is considered a nuisance by many who live in the South.

Kent Hardison, who operates Ma's Hotdog House about half a mile down the road from the pole, told a reporter from Kinston.com that he thought about spraying the plant with weed-killer, but decided not to.

“I glanced at it, and it looks like Jesus,” he told the reporter. “I thought, 'You can't spray Jesus with Roundup.'”

In July, an Anderson County, S.C., couple said the image of Jesus appeared on a Wal-Mart receipt they received after having some photographs developed. According to Jacob Simmons and Gentry Lee Sutherland, they sat the receipt on Sutherland's kitchen table, where it stayed for a few days.

After attending a Bible study one night, though, the couple returned to Sutherland's house to watch a movie, and that's when Simmons first noticed the image.

"People are going to believe what they want to believe," Sutherland told NY Daily News. "There [are] tons of people who will say, 'Oh, we're in the Bible Belt,' but here's my question to the doubters, who else has the power to put their face on a check-out receipt but Jesus?"

In September, a Maryland woman, Brittany Wampler, said she saw the image of Jesus on a Nintendo NES game console she purchased off of eBay.

"We were inspecting it for cracks/damage and when we turned it just right into the light, the image showed up," Wampler told Kotaku. "Our reaction was mainly curiousity (sic) at first. Then as we looked at it closer and ruled out what it couldn't be, we began to get excited about it."

Despite her excited reaction to the image, Wampler said she was unsure of whether or not to attribute the appearance of the image to supernatural causes.

Mat 24:23  Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
Mat 24:24  For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
Mat 24:25  Behold, I have told you before.
Mat 24:26  Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
Mat 24:27  For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Rom 8:24  For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
Rom 8:25  But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it

Acts 16:22 Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, [Ye] men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.

People are way too superstitious, and I imagine this is part of the strong delusion, and will deceive a lot of people, but you can just see people looking for, or seeking after a sign with all their heart. Well if you look hard enough, Satan will give you what you want as a counterfeit to God.

Besides that face they are seeing is probably the long haired Jesus that everyone likes to see, but we know it says in the scriptures that its a shame for a man to have long hair.

Texan Claims to Have Found Jesus Image in Knot of Wood

A Texas man says that he might have found an image of Jesus Christ on a knot of wood that miraculously appeared on Wednesday.
Related

Eddie Fregia of Hardin says that while cutting some wood at the Potetz Home Center of Cleveland to make a table he noticed a strange knot on one of the cut wood pieces.

Fregia told a Houston newspaper that he rushed to get a coworker who also remarked that the knot that appeared looked like Jesus.

Fregia’s wife told The Christian Post that she believed her husband “did not create it” and that he was “very touched” and “surprised” by the image appearing.

She also said that although in an earlier interview with the Cleveland Advocate her husband had said that it might be taken to their church this coming Sunday, she explained that no such plans were being considered.

As the Fregias continue to get attention from the press, pastors from churches across Texas have voiced their thoughts about the story.

“Since we have no photographs or actual images of Jesus from his own time, who can say whether the image depicted in the knot of wood resembles Jesus or not?” said Larry Bethune, senior pastor of University Baptist Church in Austin, to CP.

“Perhaps such ‘apparitions’ reassure some believers, but they reflect our faith poorly to nonbelievers and confirm the widespread opinion that all Christian belief is superstition.”

Bethune believed that Christians should not be looking for Jesus in objects like wood, toasts, or cloud formations, but rather among the faces of “the least of these.”

The Rev. Sherman Stenson of St. Paul Lutheran Church, meanwhile, thought that the story was a “mixed bag” for Christians.

“It's likely that such stories merely accentuate and reinforce the impressions the readers already have of Jesus and of Christianity, rather than swaying them from one side to another,” said Stenson.

“On the one hand, any opportunity to bring Jesus Christ into a conversation is a place to open doors for the discussion of sin and grace, law and Gospel, condemnation and salvation. On the other hand, claims of seeing Jesus' imagined likeness in food, clouds, flowers, wood, or any other material often tend to trivialize him, rather than glorify him.”

This is not the first claim of a miraculous image of Jesus appearing on wood this year. In February, the Orange County Register reported that a Mission Viejo, Calif., resident claimed to have found an image of Jesus on an old rocking chair.

Lou Balducci found the image on a rocking chair that had been in his yard for years. Originally intending to throw it away, in June Balducci put the chair on ebay at a starting price of $25,000.

“Now people from all around the world can travel and experience the possible healing powers of the chair,” read the ad posted on the ebay site.

Virgin Mary's belt arrives in Moscow before election

 :D

Tens of thousands of Russians lined up outside Moscow's central cathedral Saturday for a chance to kiss a relic of the Virgin Mary brought from a Greek monastery a few weeks before a parliamentary election.

The Cincture of the Virgin Mary, believed by the faithful to be the belt worn by the Madonna, is said to promote fertility and good health and was brought by Greek monks to Russia last month, greeted on arrival by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

Putin, whose United Russia Party hopes to maintain domination of the lower house of parliament in the election on December 4, has long courted the Orthodox Church. A former KGB spy, he now portrays himself as a devout Christian.

The skull of Catholic “Santa” has a boken nose

Catholics sell liquid they claim comes from his bones. 1607 years after his death, scientists discovered that the “saint” had a broken nose.

The relics of “St.Nicholas” are not like other remains of a man.

The Roman Catholic Church has managed to mint money out of the legacy of a man who died in 343 A.D.  Because when his skull and bony remains was removed from a tomb in 1950, the Catholics claimed liquid came from the dry bones. This liquid is only collected on the feast day of Nicholas, which is December 6th. The liquid is called “manna”, and is sold on bottles as miraculous water.

When the World Council of Churches wanted to have interfaith prayer with Catholic priests in May 2003, the representatives of the Vatican took the delegation to the tomb of Nicholas at Bari in Italy.

This is what the Vatican has recorded, and published on their official website, in regards to the meeting of the Joint Committee.

Hundreds of faithful have converged on a cathedral in the Colombian capital to see drops of blood of the late pope John Paul II, who was beatified last year.

The blood, contained in a glass case, was brought to Colombia from Germany and placed at Bogota's Central Cathedral on public display.

'Colombian Catholics want to ask John Paul II through his blood to intervene and make peace possible in the country,' said Friday Juan Vicente Cordoba, secretary of the Episcopalian Conference of Colombia.

Pope John Paul II headed the Catholic Church from 1978 until his death in April 2005. He was beatified in May 2011. Thousands of Colombians have perished in a guerrilla war launched by leftist rebels in 1964.

Saint's ancient heart stolen from Dublin cathedral

Somewhere in Ireland, a burglar has the heart of a saint.

Officials at Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin said Sunday they're distraught and perplexed over the theft of the church's most precious relic: the preserved heart of St. Laurence O'Toole, patron saint of Dublin.

O'Toole's heart had been displayed in the cathedral since the 13th century. It was stored in a heart-shaped wooden box and secured in a small, square iron cage on the wall of a chapel dedicated to his memory. On Saturday someone cut through two bars, pried the cage loose, and made off with the relic.

"I am devastated that one of the treasured artifacts of the cathedral is stolen," said the Most Rev. Dermot Dunne, the cathedral's dean. "It has no economic value but it is a priceless treasure that links our present foundation with its founding father."

Ireland's national police force, the Garda Siochana, said detectives were studying hours of closed-circuit TV footage to try to identify the approximately 40 people who walked out the cathedral's front doors Saturday morning.

The force said the thief may have hidden overnight in the cathedral and fled with the heart when its doors opened Saturday. Worshippers didn't spot that the relic was missing until Saturday afternoon. Nobody was arrested.

Ireland's churches have suffered a spate of such robberies of irreplaceable, but also hard to sell, religious artifacts.

Last year three relics believed to be fragments of the cross used to crucify Jesus were stolen from Holy Cross Abbey in County Tipperary. Police safely recovered those relics in January but arrested nobody.

Also in January, a thief stole the ornate container housing the jawbone of St. Brigid in a northside Dublin church. The container, called a reliquary, was bolted down to the altar. However, it had just been cleaned and so the jawbone of St. Brigid, one of Ireland's earliest and most venerated saints, wasn't inside.

O'Toole was Dublin's archbishop from 1162 to 1180 and gained a reputation as a skillful mediator between rival Gaelic and Norman factions then fighting for power in Ireland. He died aged 58 while traveling in Normandy on another peace mission. On his death bed he was said to have declined to make a will, claiming not to have a penny to his name.

Pope Honorius III canonized O'Toole in 1225 on the weight of many claims of miracles at his original grave site.

O'Toole's heart had been the last surviving part of his remains. His bones were re-interred in an English church yard in 1442 but were dug up and disappeared during the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century.

Although O'Toole is mainly revered by Roman Catholics, Christ Church Cathedral has been a center of worship for the Anglican-affiliated Church of Ireland since the Reformation.

Just how the Shroud of Turin warps the mind

Quote
What is becoming plain in our discussion is that in making his claims, de Wesselow has done very little first-hand research himself. His contribution has to be to gather up the work of others, re-examine past investigations (he draws heavily on the digging done by British author, Ian Wilson, a key figure before the carbon-dating tests, now living in retirement in Australia), and then tease out new conclusions. He is, essentially, taking existing pieces of a jigsaw and assembling them in a new and startling pattern.

It is not a description he particularly likes when I put it to him, but neither does he substantially contradict it. Instead he admits to a dislike of the popular “personal quest” genre of books that walk and talk their way through whole continents attempting to solve, among other subjects, the mysterious configuration of the pyramids or the fate of Atlantis.

“That always seems to me a very artificial way of going about it,” says de Wesselow, whose research by contrast was largely done at his desk or in libraries, save for one episode he recounts in the book when the connection between the Shroud and Resurrection came to him in a kind of eureka moment in the garden of his Cambridge house.

Having established – at least for the purposes of argument – the Shroud in first century Israel, it is now time to turn to his potentially even more earth-shaking theory, namely that the Resurrection was a kind of optical illusion.

Christianity teaches that Peter, James, Thomas, Mary Magdalene and up to 500 other disciples saw Jesus in the flesh, back from the dead, in the ultimate proof that he was God. De Wesselow rejects this “divine mystery” in favour of something that he believes is much more plausible.

What the apostles were seeing was the image of Jesus on the Shroud, which they then mistook for the real thing. It sounds, I can’t help suggesting, as absurd as a scene from a Monty Python film.

“I quite understand why you say that,” he replies, meeting me half way this time, “but you have to think your way into the mindset of 2,000 years ago. The apostles did see something out of the ordinary, the image on the cloth.

“And at that time – this is something that art historians and anthropologists know about – people were much less used to seeing images. They were rare and regarded as much more special than they are now.

Mystery solved? Turin Shroud linked to Resurrection of Christ
The Turin Shroud has baffled scholars through the ages but in his new book, The Sign, Thomas de Wesselow reveals a new theory linking the cloth to the Resurrection.

Jesus-like shadow draws thousands of pilgrims

Many pilgrims have visited the Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor at Ursuline Academy in New Orleans to see a pillar bearing what appears to be the face of Jesus. bearing a crown

Arriving steadily as singles, or in clumps of twos, threes and fours, thousands of people have streamed in and out of the dimly lighted chapel at Ursuline Academy to sit or kneel and quietly contemplate a phenomenon spreading by social media and word of mouth: a shadow, never noticed before, of a bearded man's face gazing toward the chapel altar.

The shadowy image is projected on the lower half of a sanctuary pillar, with the clear symmetry of a face, a thin beard, and something complicated going on above the forehead.

The Ursuline nuns have been forced to keep the shrine open far past its usual hours, which they are delighted to do, said Sister Carla Dolce, the head of the small community of five Ursuline nuns. Some visitors come with cameras, hoping for a picture. But most sit or kneel quietly, praying or engaging in whispered analysis of the image on the pillar.

Eight years ago a casino bid $28,000 on eBay for a grilled cheese sandwich bearing the putative image of the Virgin Mary.

In 1999, hundreds of Catholics in nearby LaPlace, La., believed a Communion wafer had visibly transformed into the flesh and blood of Christ until the Archdiocese of New Orleans determined it was mold.

Twelve years ago, 7,000 people visited a small Baptist church in Port Sulphur to view luminous crosses shining on its windows. And 10 years before that, hundreds lined up at two homes in St. Bernard to see crosses projected on bathroom windows.

The visage at Ursuline seems to be a naturally occurring shadow cast by an ornate chandelier above the sanctuary.

Many pilgrims came already knowing part of the back story, confirmed by Dolce: two weeks ago, an Ursuline student in prayer at the shrine had asked for a sign, and shortly thereafter saw the shadow she had never before noticed.

Dolce, the superior of the Ursuline community, has an explanation that threads its way between the sacred and the mundane.

"God gives us gifts. Some are natural. Some are supernatural," she said. "This is a natural gift. It's caused by light filtering through a chandelier."

"If, when we experience that image, we feel God's unconditional love for us, that's the greatest gift of all," she said.

Mark, is this "shadow image" in that picture in the post? I can't see it.

Anyhow, FWIW, I lived in New Orleans for almost 20 years, and this school(Ursuline Academy) was in my neighborhood. It's a largely Catholic metroplex with alot of Catholic schools, where most of the kids go to b/c the public schools in Orleans Parish(and to some extent Jefferson Parish) are so bad. Not that public schools should be endorsed anywhere to begin with.

Looks like the "strong delusion" is right around the corner.

Fire in Juárez destroys church, spares Virgin of Guadalupe image

fire destroyed a church in Juárez early Wednesday morning, but spared a Virgin of Guadalupe image, despite the fierce blaze, Juárez officials said today.

The incident took place at about 4:04 a.m. on Wednesday, at San Agustín Chapel at Paseos del Alba and Paseos del Ángel Streets, Juárez Fire Department officials said.

"The fire tore down the whole church," said Cap. Martin Morales, of the Fire Department in Juárez, in a telephone interview.

But the fire spared a Virgin of Guadalupe image inside the church. The worshiped icon, 60 centimeters tall and one meter wide, was framed in wood.

The flames destroyed other images like St. Agustín and Jesus Christ, said Efrén Matamoros, Juárez Environmental Services and Civil Defense.

"We had no explanation of that," Matamoros said. "The image had no protection at all." The fire also destroyed 40 pews, frames and several icons. No one was hurt.

The damages were estimated at $10,000.

The fire was ruled accidental, due to an illegal connection to the electric poles in the area, firefighters said.

The parishioners are ready to rebuild the church, Matamoros said

Mysterious bones may belong to John the Baptist

A small handful of bones found in an ancient church in Bulgaria may belong to John the Baptist, the biblical figure said to have baptized Jesus.

There's no way to be sure, of course, as there are no confirmed pieces of John the Baptist to compare to the fragments of bone. But the sarcophagus holding the bones was found near a second box bearing the name of St. John and his feast date (also called a holy day) of June 24. Now, new radiocarbon dating of the collagen in one of the bones pegs its age to the early first century, consistent with the New Testament and Jewish histories of John the Baptist's life.

"We got some dates that are very interesting indeed," study researcher Thomas Higham of the University of Oxford told LiveScience. "They suggest that the human bone is all from the same person, it's from a male, and it has a very high likelihood of an origin in the Near East," or Middle East where John the Baptist would have lived.

Mysterious bone box

The bones were found in 2010 by Romanian archaeologists Kazimir Popkonstantinov and Rossina Kostova while excavating an old church site on the island of Sveti Ivan, which translates to St. John. The church was constructed in two periods in the fifth and sixth centuries.

Beneath the altar, the archaeologists found a small marble sarcophagus, about 6 inches (15 centimeters) long. Inside were six human bones and three animal bones. The next day, the researchers found a second box just 20 inches (50 cm) away. This one was made of volcanic rock called tuff. On it, an inscription read, "Dear Lord, please help your servant Thomas" along with St. John the Baptist's name and official church feast day.

A grotesque gift

The findings paint a story of a man named Thomas charged with bringing relics, or body parts, of St. John to the island to consecrate a new church there. It was common in the fourth and fifth centuries for wealthy patrons to pay for new churches and to gift saintly relics to the monks who staffed them, Higham told LiveScience. [8 Alleged Relics of Jesus]

"We can imagine that the construction of this church was predicated on the basis of this very important gift, perhaps from the patron to the monastery," Higham said.

The human bones in the box included a knucklebone, a tooth, part of a cranium, a rib and an ulna, or arm bone. The researchers could only date the knucklebone, because radiocarbon dating relies on organic material, and only that bone had enough collagen for a good analysis. The researchers were able to reconstruct DNA sequences from three of the bones, however, showing them to be from the same person, likely a Middle Eastern man.

"Our worry was that the remains might have been contaminated with modern DNA," study researcher Hannes Schroeder, formerly of Oxford, said in a statement. "However, the DNA we found in the samples showed damage patterns that are characteristic of ancient DNA, which gave us confidence in the results. Further, it seems somewhat unlikely that all three samples would yield the same sequence considering that they had probably been handled by different people."

Schroeder added that "both of these facts suggest that the DNA we sequenced was actually authentic."

Strangely, the three animal bones (one from a sheep, one from a cow, and one from a horse), were all about 400 years older than the human bones in the reliquary. Those three bones all seem to come from the same time and location, Higham said. They may have been placed there as a way to desecrate the human bones, he said. Or someone may have just been trying to make the bone box look a little more impressive.

"It is very curious," Higham said. [8 Grisly Archaeological Discoveries]

Elusive identification

Historical research by Oxford professor Georges Kazan suggests that relics supposedly from John the Baptist were on the move out of Jerusalem by the fourth century. Many of these artifacts were shuttled through the ancient city of Constantinople and may well have been gifted to the Sveti Ivan monastery from there.

None of this proves that the bones belonged to a historical figure named John the Baptist, but researchers haven't been able to rule out the possibility, Higham said. Their study has not yet been published in a peer-reviewed journal, but a program detailing the research will be aired on the United Kingdom National Geographic Channel on Sunday (June 17). National Geographic funded the research.

Even if the monks of Sveti Ivan believed the bones to be St. John's, they may not have been. Fake relics were and still are common. For example, at least 30 nails have been venerated as the ones used to keep Jesus Christ on the cross (biblical scholars debate whether three or four nails would have been used). Likewise, French theologian John Calvin once noted that if all of the supposed fragments of Jesus' cross were gathered together, they'd fill a shipload. Even Joan of Arc has been the subject of forgery. A 2007 study found that alleged pieces of her body kept in a French church actually belonged to an Egyptian mummy. [9 Famous Art Forgers]

The Sveti Ivan box is not the only reliquary said to hold the remains of John the Baptist, Higham said. If the researchers are able to test other bones said to be the saint's, they could build a circumstantial case for their authenticity. Nevertheless, a positive identification will likely remain out of reach.

"Definitely proving it, I think, is going to remain ever-elusive," Higham said.

I read this on Yahoo this morning - the "strong delusion" is getting nearer and nearer...but as for this story, sometimes you don't know whether to laugh or just let out a big *sigh*.

They found his bones in BULGARIA of all places?! Are you kidding me?! :D

Well, unless Herod let somebody take his head, along with his body, that ain't it. But it's no surprise this is tied to the RCC of the day.

"Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he." Matthew 11:11 (KJB)

Title: Crowds flock to Virgin 'miracle' tree in New Jersey

Fervent Catholics in a crime-ridden New Jersey town are flocking to what they say is the miraculous apparition of the Virgin Mary's image in a tree trunk.

On Tuesday, a crowd of several dozen people stood around the tree, praying, taking photos and swapping stories of what they call a miracle.

West New York, just across the Hudson from Manhattan, has been better known for crime, a depressed economy and a mayor who along with his son faces federal computer hacking charges.

But the town's central Bergenline Avenue is now the unlikely setting for a diminutive Ginkgo biloba tree with a knot that, worshippers claim, has the form of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The Catholic Church has distanced itself from the supposed miracle and there's no shortage of scoffers in West New York, a tough place with a high Latin American immigrant population.

Yet on a sweltering summer's day, worshipers showed no sign of losing faith.

Boisterous and implacable, they vowed to stay put until the town's troubled mayor, Felix Roque, protects the tree for good.

"We want to build a monument," said Maria Baez, 35, one of the first to announce she'd seen the Virgin at the tree and now one of the stalwarts mounting day-and-night vigils.

Already the base of the tree and an adjacent fire hydrant are draped in rosaries, votive candles, flowers and pictures celebrating Our Lady of Guadalupe, a major figure in Mexican Catholicism.

Police have erected a metal barricade around the tree and a patrol car is parked alongside to ensure safety for both crowd and tree. Roque has been quoted in the local press as saying that the town spends $1,000 a day to manage the situation.

According to Baez, the extraordinary chain of events began early on the morning of July 10, when a woman was traveling down the avenue to go to work.

"She saw a light and it was the Virgin. She went on to work, but she was frightened," Baez explained. The woman, named Carmen Lopez, tried to alert police and the mayor but received short shrift. Soon after, Baez says she experienced a similar vision.

"When I got here I saw her: she said 'I'm the Virgin,'" Baez recounted to a chorus of admiring "wows" from others gathered on the sidewalk by the tree. "I was speechless."

Since then, there've been no reported sightings of Jesus' mother herself, but the knot in the tree is said to bear an uncanny resemblance to famous pictures of the Guadalupe Virgin in her cloak.

The image is framed by an oval shaped split in the tree's bark and a dark coloring inside is said to match the shape of the cloaked figure.

Ruben Rafael, 49, recently retired from the US Navy, said this was his fifth visit to the tree.

"I was convinced," he said. "There's a lot of crime in this town. So this helps us Catholics, Christians. She's here to cure the pain in this town."

Not everyone is so believing.

Two men passing shook their heads, smiling dismissively.

"I respect every religion, but really I don't believe this at all," Ismael Garcia, a 27-year-old carpet salesman, said.

His friend, Giovanni Valenti, an assistant mechanic, 36, pointed at the parked police car and said "they should be spending this money on something else."

Valenti pointed out that many of the Ginkgo trees lining the street have splits in the bark and knots that could be imagined to represent some picture or another.

"Tons of these trees have it. It's normal for them in this climate. It's a law of physics," he said.

Standing by the tree, another man slyly pulled out a cellphone and showed a reporter a picture of a knot taken in a similar Ginkgo. The knot somewhat resembled a human face, complete with an angular nose.

But he was not ready reject the faithful crowd entirely.

"I'm a Catholic and I believe very much in the Virgin, but the picture in this knot is just a coincidence," Ed Venicio, 35, said.

"However, I believe that whether or not it's real, the important thing is that it motivates people's faith. It gets them to go back to church and remember that God exists."

Shroud of Turin returns to spotlight with new pope, new app, new debate

The age-old debate over the Shroud of Turin is being resurrected this Easter — thanks to the attention of a new pope, the creation of a "Shroud 2.0" app, and a new book that claims the cloth dates back to Jesus' time.

The claim immediately faced a wave of criticism, including a harsh statement from Turin's archbishop that some say has driven a stake into the book's heart.

Believers say the centuries-old shroud bears the imprint of Jesus, chemically captured in the cloth at the time of his resurrection. Skeptics say it's a cleverly done medieval fake, wrapped up in highly debatable scientific claims that just won't die.

The newly published Italian-language book — "Il Mistero Della Sindone," or "The Mystery of the Shroud" — recycles some of those claims, adds in some fresh results from single-fiber tests, and makes the argument that the shroud shows the difficult-to-reproduce image of a man who lived sometime between 280 B.C. and the year 220.

If that's not enough to bring the shroud back into the spotlight, there's also the news that Pope Francis, who was named to lead the Roman Catholic Church just last month, will appear on Italian TV on Holy Saturday to introduce a RAI Uno TV appearance of the shroud. "It will be a message of intense spiritual scope, charged with positivity, which will help (people) never to lose hope," the Italian ANSA news agency quoted Turin Archbishop Cesare Nosiglia as saying.

And then there's Shroud 2.0, a free app for Apple's iPad/iPhone (and soon for Android) that lets users zoom in on high-definition images of the shroud and get factoids about its history. The app is being offered by Haltadefinizione, which took photos of the relic in 2008 and collaborated with church officials on the project. Shroud 2.0 is being offered as an "evangelization tool," according to the Vatican's News.va website.

Scientific links
The Catholic Church has taken no official stand on the authenticity of the shroud, which is kept under lock and key in Turin and is only rarely brought out for public display. But over the years, some researchers have tried to show that the shroud goes back to biblical times rather than to the 14th century.

"The Mystery of the Shroud" is the latest book of this genre. It was written by journalist Saverio Gaeta and Giulio Fanti, an engineering professor at the University of Padua. Fanti is part of a controversial research group that has claimed the image on the cloth couldn't possibly have been created by natural means. The new book refers to those past claims, plus a new angle.

That angle has to do with single fibers that were purportedly vacuumed up from the shroud during scientific testing. Fanti and his colleagues put the fibers through a series of mechanical and chemical tests. "Combining the two chemical methods with the mechanical one, it results [in] a mean date of 33 B.C., with an uncertainty of plus or minus 250 years at 95 percent confidence level, that is compatible with the period in which Jesus Christ lived in Palestine," the publishers say in a news release.

Skeptical views
Fanti's claims drew a quick reaction from Joe Nickell, a research fellow at the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry who regularly counters claims from Fanti and other shroud researchers.

"As is typical of a religious rather than scientific agenda, their news was shrewdly released just in time for Easter," Nickell said in a blog posting. "That alone casts doubt on the claims, but there is more."

Nickell pointed out that Fanti's tests "involve three different procedures — each with its own problems — which are then averaged together to produce the result." He said that stands in contrast with 1988's mass spectrometry tests, which yielded a date range between 1260 and 1390. Fanti says those earlier tests were not "statistically reliable," but Nickell and most scientists are sticking with the verdict rendered in 1988.

As a professional skeptic, Nickell can be expected to voice doubt about the book. But criticism also came from Archbishop Nosiglia.

Because there's "no degree of security" as to the authenticity of the fiber samples, the shroud's custodians "cannot recognize any serious value to the results of these alleged experiments," Nosiglia said in a statement quoted by La Stampa's Vatican Insider. The archbishop's comments "put stakes into Fanti's work," Vatican Insider reported.

Somehow I suspect that shroud science is not truly dead, but what do you think? Feel free to weigh in with your own verdict in the comment section below.

“Fabric Softener Jesus” Goes Viral After Laundry Mishap

“Fabric Softener Jesus” found his way onto a man’s shirt after a laundry mishap, and now the image has gone viral.

Martin Andrews says he was doing his laundry when he accidentally spilled fabric softener on a shirt. What happened next was a miracle. Sort of.

“I showed my mates at work the picture and one of them said, ‘I’ve heard you can find comfort in Jesus but you’ve found Jesus in Comfort!’” Andrews said.

The shirt was immediately transformed from a regular old piece of fabric to a cloth of divine intervention: Jesus Himself appeared in the fibers, and Andrews took a picture that has swept the web. It’s a bit blotchy, but Andrews and thousands of viewers have said they can definitely make out the shape of Jesus with his arms outstretched in a welcoming gesture.

No word yet on what Andrews plans to do with the shirt.

Florida woman finds ‘sign from God’ on Goldfish cracker

It’s a fishy story, but the woman telling it believes it's pure gold. The Florida resident says the markings she found on a Goldfish cracker are a direct message affirming her Christian faith.
William Morris

“I believe that it’s a sign, a sign from God,” Patti Burke told Florida Today. “He is still in our life every day, and he wants to show that to his people.”

It's not quite manna, but in Burke's eyes it's a manifestation of her faith.

The cracker in question has two markings, or imperfections, on its surface. Burke says the first marking is of a cross with a circle around it. The second marking, near the head of the fish, represents a golden crown.

“When I picked this one up, I knew he was special,” she said. “Something I’ve never seen before out of all the Goldfish I’ve eaten.”

Burke admittedly has been working from a large sample size, consuming between two and three pounds of the crackers per week. She says she eats the small crackers individually, examining each one for the optimal amount of savory coating.

Burke now carries her special cracker in an earring box padded with gauze. But she wasn’t immediately convinced it was a sign from God. At first, she thought maybe she had won a special promotion from cracker manufacturer Pepperidge Farm.

“They called me back and said there’s no way this could have been printed like that in the factory,” Burke told Florida Today. “They said it sounds like something miraculous happened and we don’t know how it happened.”

(That comment has not been confirmed by Pepperidge Farm.)

No one can say exactly when people started seeing notable figures in their food, but it’s a phenomenon that has made headlines in the modern era. Last year, a Nebraska woman sold a Chicken McNugget on eBay for $8,100 after becoming convinced it contained the visage of George Washington.

After becoming convinced that the cracker in fact possessed a deeper, spiritual message, Burke brought her sign of faith to her pastor, D. Scott Worth.

“I think it’s a sign,” Worth told WKMG. “I think it points to, I would hesitate to call it a miracle, but I think it points to the miracle, which is Jesus Christ defeated death. And that’s what Easter is all about.”

Of course, not every piece of food contains divine inspiration. Just pray you don’t end up with a toaster possessed by the Devil.

Well, hate to say it, but when all is said and done, she's really going to get duped...

Rev 13:11  And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
Rev 13:12  And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
Rev 13:13  And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
Rev 13:14  And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

Do You Believe? Holy image appears behind child battling leukemia
5/24/13

KIRTLAND, OH (WOIO) -
Believer or not, the image behind Erin Potter, a Kirtland girl battling leukemia, is stunning. It certainly stunned her mom.

"My reaction immediately, it's Mary, they hear us, she's there," Jen Potter said.

The picture of Erin, running with sparklers, was taken in her backyard by a friend just after the family learned that Erin's cancer was back, for the third time, and she was facing a second bone marrow transplant.

"I didn't necessarily see it as a sign that Erin is fine and is going to walk out of this, but it's a sign that we're watching over her," Jen added.

19 Action News has documented Erin's cancer battle before. Kevin Potter, her father, actually introduced President Obama at a campaign stop, as the president spoke of the family's fight to stay insured to keep alive the fight for Erin.

Just after the picture was taken, Erin had that transplant, and right now, she's cancer-free.

"So you guys know people are going to be skeptical and that doesn't necessarily bother you?" asked Reporter Brian Duffy. "You want people to believe whatever it is they want to believe when they see that picture."

"I know she's not alone, I know we are not alone and people who don't want to believe it, that's OK," said Kevin Potter. "Whatever happened, you know something powerful and special was there with us."

"I definitely have my moments when I'm falling apart and I'm terrified and I literally grab my phone and I stare at that picture."

Do you believe?

Relics unearthed in Turkey may contain piece of Jesus' cross

Archeologists conducting excavations at the site of a church in Turkey have unearthed a stone chest containing a relic that may be part of the cross on which Jesus was crucified.

The items were discovered during a large-scale excavation at the Balatlar Church, which was built in A.D. 660 near the Black Sea, Today's Zaman reported.

Professor Gülgün Köroğlu, an associate professor at Turkey's Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and excavation leader, told the newspaper the artifacts are linked to Jesus' crucifixion.

"This stone chest is very important to us. It has a history and is the most important artifact we have unearthed so far,” Köroğlu told the newspaper Wednesday.

Köroğlu told the Hurriyet Daily News the item believed to be part of Jesus' cross is the most important artifact unearthed by the European Union-funded excavation team.

“We have been working here for four years and have found more than 2,000 skeletons. I hope this year will be a very fruitful working season for us. We have learned many things during the excavation that we did not previously know.”

Vatican to display remains of St. Peter to public for first time
11/12/13
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2013/11/12/vatican-to-display-remains-st-peter-to-public-for-first-time/

His soul may be waiting at the gates of Heaven, but the bones of St. Peter will be on display for the first time ever later this month at the basilica that bears his name, according to the Vatican.

The beloved saint's remains, discovered during excavations of the necropolis under St. Peter's Basilica in the 1940s, have stayed below ground and out of public view since their discovery - and since Pope Paul VI vouched for their authenticity in the 1960s. But top Vatican official Archbishop Rino Fisichella, who is  president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting New Evangelization, made the announcement in Monday's L’Osservatore Romano, part of News.va, the official Vatican network.

Catholic making a pilgrimage to St. Peter’s tomb to mark the end of the Year of Faith will enjoy “the exposition ... of the relics traditionally recognized as those of the apostle who gave his life for the Lord on this spot,” wrote Fisichella.

The unveiling, planned for Nov. 24, marks the first time St. Peter's remains -- discovered in the 1940s -- will be displayed for public view. Millions of pilgrims visit St. Peter's tomb each year inside the basilica named for him. Peter was the leader of Christ's 12 apostles and the first bishop and Pope of the Catholic Church.

His tomb was discovered near a monument constructed in the 4th century to honor him. The tomb is located under the altar of the Vatican basilica. Although the church never officially declared the bones authentic, archeological testing convinced Pope Paul VI they had been "identified in a way we can hold to be convincing."

Catholic belief holds that St. Peter was crucified upside at his own request, because he believed he was unworthy of being crucified in the same way as Jesus Christ. According to scripture, Jesus predicted at the Last Supper that Peter would deny being his follower three times before the next morning, a prophecy that came true much to Peter's shame.

St. Peter's role as gatekeeper to Heaven is believed to come from Matthew, Chapter 16, Verses 17-20, where Jesus is quoted as giving him the keys to Heaven.

Uhm...Peter NEVER went to Rome!

1Peter 1:1  Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
1Pe 1:2  Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

1Peter_5:13  The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son.

Acts 19:21  After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.

And wasn't Peter MARRIED too?(something the RCC forbids their popes, cardinals, and priests to do so) ::)

And yet another reason for us to not trust man! Men lie, and obviously I was wrong. I honestly never have caught that. That's one of those single verses of info that is only mentioned in that one verse, that I remember. But as I have said many times, don't trust me, read for yourselves!

It seems like no matter how many times we read the bible, no matter how many years we've reading it, and no matter how regularly we read it - there is still SO much in God's book, that we all tend to forget.

I can't tell you how many times I would re-read passages for like the umpteenth time, and I'm like, "I don't remember reading that?" OR "I can't believe I forgot about that!".

Even Solomon in Eccl says that much studying is weary on the flesh - but thank the Lord that we have the WHOLE council of God right in front of us, and brethren around us to edify and remind us of other portions of scripture we tend to forget about.

And this is why I have a big problem with a lot of these "Christian" books and Churchianity pastors - b/c these authors and "leaders" are being shown the impression that they somehow have super-knowledge on scripture with all they are able to write and speak, that they end up deceiving their followers to forget about rightly dividing the word of truth line upon line, precept upon precept.

The funny thing is, that verse is in Catholic Bibles.

Douay-Rheims Bible
[14] And when Jesus was come into Peter' s house, he saw his wife' s mother lying, and sick of a fever:

NASB
Mat 8:14 When Jesus came into Peter’s [fn]home, He saw his mother-in-law lying sick in bed with a fever.

ESV
Mat 8:14 And when Jesus entered Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever.

NIV
Mat 8:14 When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever.

So all a cathlic needs to do is just READ the BIBLE....

Rom 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

The problem with the world system is that people are brainwashed to think they have to believe everything they hear from "authority" figures(whether it's from institutions, the news, etc).

Can't tell you the number of times I've exposed this particular RCC lie to professing Christians, and even THIS WOULDN'T convince them that the RCC is evil. They're like, "Why do you hate them so much?", "Don't judge!", etc.

I mean no matter how abominably wrong the RCC(or whoever is), they're like, "But they're not perfect!", etc.

And yes, saw that about the Vatican "revealing" Peter's (supposed)bones found there. All I will say is that time is really drawing near!

Blood of Pope John Paul II stolen in possible 'satanic' theft
Italian police search for a stolen religious reliquary that contains the blood of dead Pope

A religious reliquary containing blood from the late Pope John Paul II has been stolen from a remote mountain church in Italy, with speculation that a Satanic group could be behind the theft.

A team of around 50 Carabinieri police officers with sniffer dogs were on Monday searching for any trace of the reliquary, which was stolen from the Church of St Peter of Ienca in the Abruzzo mountains at the weekend.

The ornate gold object contains a fragment of material, stained with blood, which was purportedly taken from the clothing worn by John Paul II after he was shot during the failed attempt on his life in St Peter’s Square in 1981.

It was donated to the church in May 2011 by Stanislaw Dzuwisz, a Polish cardinal and the Pope’s former personal secretary.

The reliquary is one of just a handful in the world that contains the blood of the Polish pope, who died in 2005 and was succeeded by Benedict XVI.

It was stolen along with a cross from the church, which lies close to Gran Sasso, a 9,550ft- high mountain in the Apennines east of Rome.

The theft was discovered on Saturday by a priest from the religious sanctuary, which is dedicated to the memory of John Paul II.

The Pope was very fond of the region and used to spend holidays there, walking, meditating and skiing at the nearby resort of Campo Imperatore.

It is also famous as the place where Benito Mussolini was interned after Italy swapped sides during the war, and from where he was rescued by a team of German paratroopers in Sept 1943 during a daring airborne raid.

“It’s possible that there could be Satanic sects behind the theft of the reliquary,” said Giovanni Panunzio, the national coordinator of an anti-occult group called Osservatorio Antiplagio.

“This period of the year is important in the Satanic calendar and culminates in the Satanic ‘new year’ on Feb 1. This sort of sacrilege often take place at this time of the year. We hope that the stolen items are recovered as quickly as possible.”

The theft of the reliquary comes as the Vatican prepares to canonise John Paul II, along with another former Pope, John XXIII, at a ceremony on April 27.

At John Paul II’s funeral in 2005, crowds of mourners cried "Santo Subito!" - "Sainthood now" - prompting the Vatican to speed up the Polish pontiff’s path to canonisation.

In Aug 2012, another relic containing a vial of the late Pope’s blood was stolen from a Catholic priest while he was travelling on a train north of Rome.

The relic was in his backpack, which was swiped by thieves but later recovered in a thicket of cane grass by police.

‘Weeping’ Mary draws hundreds
Owner says she awoke to find the figurine covered in oil, and it spoke to her

Hundreds of people have flocked to a small town in northern Israel to view a statue of the Virgin Mary that residents say “weeps” oil.

Members of a Christian family from Tarshiha, near the Lebanon border, say they have witnessed a miracle in their living room.

Osama Khoury said Tuesday that his wife Amira found the statue “covered with oil” recently. Amira said the statue “spoke to her” and told her not to be afraid. After a neighbor witnessed the oil, word soon spread.

Parts of the statue appear to be slick with moisture, even after it is wiped off.

The family says it is most striking when a “tear” seems to roll down the statue’s cheek. It says some 2,000 people have come to see the statue over the last week.

Inside Ohio’s ‘Miracle House’

NEWS VIDEO: http://fox8.com/2014/02/10/inside-ohios-miracle-house/

CANTON, Ohio- A local house and woman who lived there are being investigated by the Catholic Church.

The process has begun to one day canonize Rhoda Wise as only the 4th American-born saint.

Her house in Canton could become a church-sanctioned shrine.

The West Virginia native, who settled in Ohio; got married; and raised an adopted daughter, experienced many hardships throughout her life.

During the Great Depression, she was sent home to die, but she claimed Jesus and St. Therese visited her and answered her prayers.

The deadly abdominal infection, gaping wound and severely malformed foot were all healed.

Many miraculous events have been reported at the house ever since from weeping statues to incredible cures.

Rhoda herself had the Stigmata, what many Christians believe is the spontaneous bleeding on the body corresponding with the crucifixion wounds of Jesus.

For more than 2 years she bled profusely from her head, hands and feet, but she never complained about the suffering. She accepted it gladly so that others might be healed.

**For extended coverage including an interview with a woman who claimed she was healed click here.**

*Wednesday night on FOX 8 News at 10, hear from another woman who says she was cured inside the Canton home.**

Like I said in other threads, I was in that Christian Science cult briefly 5 years ago - pretty much they believe in the same thing, that somehow our "works"(ie-reading CS's blasphemous writings over and over again) can heal our illnesses et al, and that we end up having this "power" to heal others. And ultimately, as I've said too, what lead me to Christian Apologetics was after like the 2nd or 3rd reading of these writings, something did NOT feel right at all.(ie-they say how Jesus' blood atonement is ridiculous et al, which is pure blasphemy, and they deny sin too)

Yeah, all of these false Babylonian religions are NO different from the Roman Catholic Cult. As a matter of fact, they teach the SAME things, pretty much.

2Corinthians 12:10  Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

Hundreds of Belgians flock to glowing Virgin Mary statue

Hundreds of people have been flocking to a house in southern Belgium to catch a glimpse of a small statue of the Virgin Mary which reportedly glows in the dark.

Local media reported that on Wednesday, 500 people visited the house in the normally quiet town of Jalhay to witness what is being referred to as "the mysterious glowing Virgin".

Police have been required to bolster their presence around a pavilion erected by the retired Belgian owners of the statue, which witnesses suggest lets out a dull glow after dark.

The phenomenon was first noticed in mid-January and has gradually attracted larger crowds, with local media reporting that some of those visiting the statue claim to have been cured of a skin condition.

The statue, about 30 centimetres (one foot) in height, represents the "Virgin of Banneux", from the name of a nearby village where in 1933 a young girl was said to have witnessed an appearance by the Virgin.

The town has since become a pilgrim destination in largely Catholic Belgium, although Catholic authorities from the Banneux sanctuary are expressing caution about the "glowing" Virgin.

"It's certain that something is going on but I can't tell you whether there is a natural or a miraculous explanation," said Father Leo Palm, who was sent to investigate the statue by the bishop of Liege.

The owners of the statue have refused to allow it to be removed for further examination, saying "she is fine where she is".

‘Delicious Miracle’: Is This Jesus’ Face on a…Pancake?

A California cafe recently tried to cook up a pancake that resembled Mickey Mouse, but it ended up looking like something else entirely.

Cowgirl Café in Norco, Calif., made the “delicious miracle” on Good Friday — a flapjack that resembled Jesus Christ, according to restaurant owners Gary and Karen Henderickson.

looks more like Charles Manson

“The night before, [Karen] decides to pray about something and the next day on Good Friday we get this pancake,” Gary Henderickson told ABC News. “To us it looks like a picture of Jesus looking down, like he’s looking down over us.”

Henderickson and his wife said they believe the pancake is a message from above. They placed it in their freezer for now, but are looking for more permanent ways to preserve it.

For now, a picture of the pancake will be displayed on the restaurant’s wall for those who wish to see it.

“I can’t explain why God acts the way he does,” Henderson said, noting that his brother was recently diagnosed with lung cancer and that he is taking the message seriously.

Pope Kisses Skin, Blood Relics in Declaring ‘Sainthood’ to John Paul II, John XXIII

A crowd of approximately one million spectators crowded St. Peter’s Square in Rome on Sunday for the canonization ceremony for Popes John Paul II and John XXIII, as Pope Francis declared sainthood to the two deceased pontiffs.

The event was stated to have been the largest public Roman Catholic gathering since the funeral of John Paul II in 2005. Pope Francis was joined by his predecessor Pope Benedict at the event, as well as leaders and dignitaries from 122 nations worldwide.

As part of the rites, Francis was presented with relics from both of the two men–a vial of blood belonging to John Paul II and a fleck of skin removed from the body of John XXIII during his beatification. He kissed each container as they were received and placed at the altar. Tapestries were also hung in the square that bore the images of the popes.

“We declare and define Blessed John XXIII and John Paul II to be saints and we enroll them among the saints, decreeing that they are to be venerated as such by the whole Church,” Francis declared in reading his prepared decree.

According to Catholic tradition, candidates for sainthood must have been deceased for at least five years and must be believed to be responsible for performing at least two miracles since their death. As John XXIII is attributed by the Vatican as purportedly performing a single miracle, Francis waived the second requirement for the declaration of his sainthood. Adele Labianca claims that after relics from John XXIII were placed on the abdomen of Neapolitan nun Caterina Capitani, the deceased pope appeared to her in a vision and healed the nun of her gastric hemorrhaging.

“Pope John told me, ‘The wound is healed,’” she said in a press conference on Thursday before the ceremony.

Pope John Paul II is credited with healing a French nun of Parkinson’s Disease, and Floribeth Mora Diaz from Costa Rica claims that his image spoke to her out of a magazine and healed her of a brain aneurysm.
Connect with Christian News

“I heard his voice say to me, ‘Get up and don’t be afraid,’” she explained at the conference, noting that she had fallen asleep holding a magazine that contained John Paul II’s photograph. “I went to my husband in the kitchen and told him I was cured. I realized little by little the illness had been taken away.”

However, some are highly speculative about the claims, and are concerned about the unbiblical nature of canonization itself. Mike Gendron of Proclaiming the Gospel Ministries in Plano, Texas told Christian News Network that the declaration of John Paul II and John XXIII as saints is a violation of Scripture.

“Clearly, the canonization concept is not biblical, in fact, as with many Catholic traditions it nullifies and opposes the Word of God,” he said. “Everyone who has been baptized by the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ is a saint (1 Cor. 12:13). Scripture has 68 references to ‘saints’ and many of the epistles to the churches were addressed to the saints. Every born again Christian is a saint by virtue of their oneness with Christ.”

Gendron, a former Roman Catholic who now evangelizes those in the Catholic Church, also took issue with aspects of Sunday’s ceremony, including the presentation of blood and skin to Pope Francis. He stated that such practices are rooted in paganism.

“According to the Word of God, the veneration and consultation of the dead are prohibited in Scripture (Deuteronomy 18:10-12). Furthermore, anyone who came into contact with a dead person or a grave was considered unclean and could not take part in worship (Numbers 19:16; Leviticus 21:1),” he explained. “Yet, as part of the canonization ceremony, relics of each of the new saints were presented to Pope Francis. … The worship of the dead is practiced and commanded in Catholicism. Not only in the veneration of so-called ‘saints,’ but every altar must have a relic of a dead saint. This is pagan necromancy, which the Bible strictly forbids.”

As Catholics worldwide will now be expected to call out to John Paul II and John XXIII to intercede on their behalf due to their sainthood, Gendron stated that such a concept is likewise concerning.

“Catholicism teaches that Catholics are to pray to the saints because they can be helped by the prayers of the saints. This of course violates Scripture,” he outlined. “Nowhere in the Bible do we see any God-fearing man praying to anyone other than almighty God.”

“‘For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,’” Gendron said, quoting 1 Timothy 2:5.

Christ statue 'has human teeth'

The statue of the Lord of Patience in the parish of San Bartolo Cuautlalpan, Mexico, has always looked ghastly.

His tortured look, blood streaming down his neck, open wounds on his face, hands and knees send shivers down your spine. But it turns out that the statue is even more realistic - and macabre - than previously thought. Specialists restoring the 18th Century artwork have discovered that the statue's eight teeth used to belong to an adult human, Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History has announced.

"The teeth were probably donated as a token of gratitude," suggests head restorer Fanny Unikel. Elsewhere in Mexico, parishioners are known to have volunteered their hair to make wigs for saints, as well as clothing or money. But the teeth and nails of statues are usually made of bones and animal horns. "It's the first time human teeth have been found in a sculpture," says Unikel.

As unique as it is, the director of Mexico's National School of Restoration, Conservation and Museology says the find isn't surprising. "The statue is a very convincing depiction, so naturally, if someone could lay hands on this kind of teeth, he would use them." Unikel adds, in a museum video, the teeth are in perfect condition, even for a centuries-old sculpture. She rules out the idea that they belonged to a holy person. "Relics would be used in a different way to stress their significance."

Pope Francis Credited With Performing 'Miracle' As St. Gennaro's Blood Liquifies

The Huffington Post Posted: 03/22/15 11:49 PM ET Updated: 03/23/15 09:59 AM ET

Pope Francis is being credited with a miracle -- or at least a "half miracle" -- after St. Gennaro's blood liquified in his presence in Naples on Saturday.

The saint's blood is usually dry inside of its sealed glass ampoule. However, after the pope kissed the relic, it began to turn to liquid.

“It is the sign that St. Gennaro loves Pope Francis: half of the blood turned to liquid," Cardinal Crescenzo Sepe, archbishop of Naples, told the cheering crowd, according to Vatican Insider.

“If only half of it liquefied that means we still have work to do; we have to do better," the pontiff replied. "We have only half of the saint’s love.”

The website reports that the blood continued to liquefy until the entire contents of the ampoule had turned to liquid, causing some in the crowd to weep. (More)

'Communist crucifix' puts Pope Francis on the spot

 :D

The Vatican is seeking to explain a "Communist crucifix" given to Pope Francis by Bolivian President Evo Morales, saying it's a symbol of dialogue and not an offensive melding of faith and ideology.

Mr Morales gave the crucifix carved into a hammer and sickle to Francis when they met on Wednesday upon the Pope's arrival in Bolivia.

The Vatican wasn't expecting the unusual gift and it immediately raised eyebrows.

It turns out the crucifix was designed by Jesuit activist Luis Espinal, who was assassinated in 1980 by suspected paramilitaries during the months that preceded a military coup. Francis is a fellow Jesuit and he stopped to pray at the site where Espinal's body was dumped.

Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said on Thursday the Pope had had no idea that Espinal had designed such a crucifix.

Father Lombardi said Espinal's fellow priests said he had designed the crucifix as a symbol of dialogue and commitment to freedom for Bolivia during a turbulent time.

Many church theologians have bitterly denounced the Marxist influences on Liberation Theology, but Francis has tried to rehabilitate the movement – without the Marxism.

Holy miracle! Watch Virgin Mary's lips 'MOVE' on painting during prayer

nope

Stunned believers are flocking to the church to witness the unusual sight that has left even sceptics scratching their heads

Hundreds of Christians are flocking to church to witness a 'miracle' painting of the Virgin Mary who appears to join in with the Lord's prayer.

Stunned believers filmed the astonishing moment her lips appeared to move on the artwork during Mass last Sunday.

Footage shows the congregation saying the 'Our Father' prayer but after several seconds it's clear several Christians are distracted by something else.

f you look closely, the Virgin Mary's mouth appears to move during the biblical reading, becoming clearer towards the end of the video.

Baffled George Akary filmed what he believes is a 'miracle' in St Charbel's church, Sydney, before posting it on Facebook.

He said: "To clarify for the viewers I saw this during mass and at the end of mass the rosary is prayed.

"I went to the altar and wanted to confirm via recording it."

Sceptics poured scorn on his viewpoint, claiming that it's a trick of the light coupled with the movement of the camera.

But George dismissed this and added: "Lights are not relevant as i have seen this occur under various lighting and have considered those possibilities.

"It is what it is... I also did notice whilst the people were praying the lips sped up or slowed down to the prayer been said."

Stunned Facebook user Rita Taouk wrote: "Absolutely beautiful," while Rania Boustani simply commented: "Wow."

Holy water: Congressman steals Pope Francis' glass after White House address to sip remaining liquid with his wife - and then saves some to sprinkle on his grandchildren

Representative Bob Brady, a devout Catholic and Democrat from Pennsylvania took Pope Francis' water glass on Thursday
After Pope Francis addressed congress, Rep. Brady made his way to the podium to get the leftover liquid so he could drink it
He also shared the water with his wife Debra and his staff, and plans to use the rest to sprinkle on his grandchildren
Brady poured the liquid into the mouths of others rather than letting them hold the glass and had his staff send out the photos
He did the same thing at President Obama's inauguration with his water glass
Brady also plans to have police dust the cup for fingerprints to prove it was used by Pope Francis

A congressman stole the water glass Pope Francis was drinking out of during his address at the White House on Thursday.

Representative Bob Brady, a devout Catholic and Democrat from Pennsylvania immediately made his way to the podium after Pope Francis finished speaking and grabbed the glass that was still filled with water.

He then drank the water, gave some of the water to his wife Debra, and saved the rest for his grandchildren.

Representative Brady took photos as well, and had his staff send them out to the press.

Catholic Church Sees a Miracle in 'Bleeding' Communion Wafer

A Utah Catholic church recently became the site of what some are calling a miracle after a communion wafer placed in water appeared to bleed.

Meant to symbolize the flesh of Christ, the wafer--also called a host--was placed in a glass of water near the altar at St. Francis Xavier Church in Kearns after a young parishioner returned it to the priest during communion. JUST WANT TO POINT THAT OUT...  ::) :P

The priest reportedly then placed the wafer into the water, expecting it to dissolve in just a few minutes. But that's not what happened.

Instead, the wafer remained intact for several days. What's more, it turned a deep blood red.

News of the apparent miracle sent shockwaves through the church community and devotees began to pack into St. Francis Xavier's to see the host on display.

Word also spread to the Salt Lake City Diocese, where a five-person committee was formed to investigate the potential miracle, reports KSTU.

Monsignor M. Francis Mannion issued the following statement:

"Recently, reports of a bleeding host at St. Francis Xavier Church in Kearns have been circulating within the diocese. Monsignor Colin F. Bircumshaw, Diocesan Administrator, has appointed an ad hoc committee of individuals with various backgrounds to investigate the matter.

"The work of the committee is now underway. The results will be made public.

"The host is now in the custody of the Diocesan Administrator. Contrary to rumor, there are NO current plans for public exposition or adoration."

Image On Church Window Resembles Virgin Mary, Draws Throngs Of Spectators

https://youtu.be/IO7JUcOrT6k

What some are chalking up as simply a “faulty coating” has others believing that a divine phenomenon has touched the window of one local church — along with the hearts of its parishioners.

That’s because an image that bears a striking resemblance to the Virgin Mary seems to have appeared on a portion of glass at the Transfiguration Catholic Church in Marietta, bringing throngs of onlookers eager to see what some believe to be a Christmas miracle.

Father Fernando Molina-Restrepo posted a photograph of the window on Facebook this week and explained that image appeared on December 12, which is also the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. He wrote that many are offering their own interpretations of how the foggy figure formed, perhaps the pane’s coating reacting to a mixture of the outside elements, though there are plenty of spectators who are happy to point to their faith as the true cause.

Parishioner Victor Jose Alvarado, who was at the church when the image first appeared on the window inside Bishop Hall, told CBS Atlanta it was one of the most “wonderful experiences” he’s ever had, and shared a photo he took with us.

Alvarado described his experience on Facebook: “We started praying and singing songs to the Virgin Mary of Guadalupe, and immediately started feeling peace and the smell of roses!!! We just finished having lunch when someone noticed a very bright sun ray and in front of our eyes her image starting to appear in the window.”

Hundreds Injured as Filipino Crowd Throngs ‘Healing’ Idol Being Marched Through Streets

Two people are dead and hundreds were injured on Saturday as massive throngs sought to press up against a centuries-old statue of Christ that was marched through the streets of Manila as part of an annual Roman Catholic celebration called the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno estimates that 1.4 million people participated in the procession, which takes place every Jan. 9th in the city. Roman Catholics carry white cloths and seek to touch the wood carving of Jesus carrying the cross out of their belief that it possesses healing powers or can bring good fortune.

This year was no exception, as some followers along the 20-hour procession handed cloths to those who were adjacent to the carriage, hoping that they could swipe the idol for them.

“When I was a young woman, I walked on my knees and begged the Black Nazarene to give me a good husband,” 72-year-old Nilda Saavedra, told reporters. “I also prayed that all my three children could finish college. All my prayers were heard.”

The carving, known as the Black Nazarene for the figure’s dark complexion, is believed to have been brought from Mexico to Manila in the 1600’s. It was carried aboard a ship, and although the vessel caught fire, it was not destroyed.

For the past 200 years, millions have flooded the streets as the wooden carving is carried through Manila for its annual feast day. Those who observe the occasion, which includes men, women and children alike, usually walk the streets barefoot as a gesture of reverence toward the statue. The event can sometimes become dangerous as the throngs push one another out of the way.

“Today, they cause chaos. Sometimes, while the carriage is still being moved out of the church, some devotees are already fighting,” Teresita De Guzman, 71, who has participated in the annual procession for 50 years, told the Philippine Star. “Others even stab and hit each other just to get closer to the Señor.”

    Connect with Christian News

Reports state that one man, Alex Fulyedo, 27, died after suffering a seizure during the event, and a candle vendor, Mauro Arabit, 58, had a heart attack and was declared dead on arrival at a local hospital.

The Philippine Red Cross says that it treated over 1,200 people for injuries, which included cuts, abrasions and bruises, as well as those who sought to have their blood pressure checked. A few also complained of shortness of breath or struggled with ailments that required hospitalization.

The procession began at 6 a.m. on Saturday and concluded at 2 a.m. on Sunday morning, and was guarded by an estimated 5,000 police officers and members of the military.

As previously reported, the vast majority of Filipinos—approximately 80 percent—are Roman Catholic. Only an estimated 2.8 percent of the population professes to be evangelical Christian.

Pope Francis Orders Body Of Dead Monk Padre Pio To Vatican To Be Worshipped
His body was partially reconstructed with a life-like silicone mask and preserved in a large, temperature-controlled glass reliquary so the faithful could view it.

Padre Pio was dogged during his life and even after his death by allegations that he was a fake but Church investigators cleared him each time.

“There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.” Deuteronomy 18:10,11 (KJV)

His name was Padre Pio, he was a Catholic monk who died in 1968, and he is prayed to by millions of Catholics around the world. Pio is said by the Catholic Church to have had the “stigmata” – the bleeding wounds of Jesus on his hands and feet. In 2008, in true necromantic fashion, his dead body was dug up and made into a shrine inside a glass coffin. His body was partially reconstructed with a life-like silicone mask and preserved in a large, temperature-controlled glass reliquary so the faithful could view it.

https://vimeo.com/154270792

Now Pope Francis has ordered the corpse of Padre Pio to be displayed in St. Peter’s Basilica during the Catholic Church’s current Holy Year on the theme of mercy. The body, along with that of another, less famous saint that is being transported to Rome from northern Italy, will be displayed in a Rome church before both are moved in procession to St. Peter’s on Friday.

This is all part of the unholy, demonic obsession by the Catholic Church to worship these artificial “saints”, pray to the dead, and to get people’s eyes off of Jesus Christ and on anything else. Look at the woman with her hands and face pressed against the glass coffin of Padre Pio in the photo at top. She is crying like she lost a family member, and she is PRAYING TO HIM for guidance and help with her life. All of this fostered, sanctioned and encouraged by Pope Francis and all levels of Vatican authority. This activity is absolutely forbidden in the Bible, and had much in common with cultic Mormon rituals and ceremonies for the dead.

Many people said the brown-robed Padre Pio was able to predict events in their lives and knew what they were about to confess. There are thousands of “Padre Pio Prayer Groups” around the world.

Padre Pio was dogged during his life and even after his death by allegations that he was a fake but Church investigators cleared him each time.

You are looking at what the Vatican **** of Babylon loves to do best, deceive people. Starting today, the corpse of Catholic shaman Padre Pio will lie in a glass coffin, and over 1 million people will file past to lean over the coffin to pray to him, venerate him, which is simply another way to say worship him.

“And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” Revelation 18:4 (KJV)

Miracle in Chicago? Pilgrims flock to see Orthodox icon weeping drops of oil

Lev 26:1 Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.

Thousands of Orthodox Christians are flocking to a church in southwest Chicago to witness what they believe is a miracle.

According to the Chicago Tribune, tiny drops of sweet-smelling oil have been trickling down an icon of John the Baptist at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Homer Glen. The parishioners believe the droplets have healing properties.

Parish priest Rev Sotirios Dimitriou – known as Father Sam – said: "The first thing out of my mouth was 'What do I do?' You don't expect anything like this. It's breathtaking. It's so powerful to see such an act of God before your eyes."

The auxiliary bishop of the diocese told the Tribune it would not comment on whether the phenomenon was genuinely miraculous, saying "We let the faithful believe it if they wish." Bishop Demetrios added: "If it brings you closer to God that's wonderful. If it doesn't, it doesn't."

The oil exudes from the icon's halo, wings, hands and beard and is collected in a reservoir of cotton at its base. Dimitriou saturates cotton balls with the substance and hands them out to his parishioners. He has had several reports of divine healing from those who have touched it. One man said a blocked artery had cleared, while another claimed to be cancer free. Dimitriou himself, who had experienced blackouts because of a nerve condition, said he had not suffered since the oil began to flow and had stopped taking his medication.

The Tribune quotes James Skedros, dean of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, who said that similar episodes have taken place across the US. While unlike the Roman Catholic Church the Orthodox Church has no formal process for authenticating them, they are regarded as significant for believers. He said Orthodox Christians believe matter can be a conveyor of sanctity.

"We have a very different understanding of matter as a vehicle of holiness," Skedros said. "We put [icons] on walls, burn candles in front of them, light incense in front of them because they're images of what they represent — the holy person or image of Christ or the saint."

Exo 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Exo 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
Exo 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

Meanwhile the church itself is struggling with the number of visitors it is receiving because of the phenomenon. A statement from the diocese said: "We are blessed to have this occurring at our parish in Homer Glen, Illinois.

"We ask for patience and understanding when wanting to visit this icon or request additional information as this is a small community parish that is trying to work out how best to share this blessing with now a much enlarged audience."

A VIRGIN MARY STATUE IN A FRESNO HOUSE IS BEING CALLED A MIRACLE

A statue of the Virgin Mary Semiramis in Fresno appears to be weeping. The family who owns the statue calls it a miracle and said it's been happening for a while.

To the faithful, Maria Cardenas said the statue of the Virgin Mary is a blessing. Tears seem to well up in her right eye and stream down her face to her chin.

Cardenas said it's beautiful the way she looks right now. Every tear, she said, is nothing short of a miracle. So she collects them in a glass and shares them with those who find their way to this home.

A lot of people come and they can't believe it, she said, but they come with faith.

"I wanted to come see for myself," said Richard Quintana, neighbor.

Quintana just moved in across the street and he was invited in to take a look, for the first time.

"That's amazing. It takes the words out of my mouth-- like wow. I'm so amazed," said Quintana.

Cardenas said I don't understand why she's doing it but it's something good.
She said the statue was a Mother's Day gift she received 10 years ago almost to the day. But it didn't start weeping, she said until a year and a half ago when her cousin, Jessie Lopez, was murdered.

Sometimes she doesn't cry for weeks or months Cardenas said, but when she starts, she will cry again.

Action News cameras watched one of the tears fall. It was oily and smelled like roses. And another tear immediately started building up.

One man, who didn't want to be identified is the statue's caretaker. He said people have tried to figure it out but have only come up with one explanation.

"We've had priests come from all over to look at her, and all they say is that it's a miracle."

At this house the Virgin Mary statue weeps, or so it seems, for anyone to see, not just the faithful.

"We're not hiding her, but at the same time, we don't want anything to happen to her,' said the caretaker.

The people who live at the house said the door is open to anyone. They don't want to give the address, but if you are invited, you are welcome inside.

1Co 10:19 What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?
1Co 10:20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.

Virgin Mary Statue That ‘Cries Single Drop Of Blood’ Causes Hysteria In South America

Resident Ana Cristina Jimenez said: 'I saw that the Virgin Mary had a tear of blood. I was surprised. I felt joyful, sad... everything!' Miryan Quintero, another woman from the community, added: 'I believe it. The Virgin is alive in Heaven. I know she's real.' An unnamed local said: 'Every day the neighbours pray in front of the Virgin Mary and yesterday they saw that she had a tear from her left eye. 'People went to look at her closely and confirmed it was true. Many people have come to see it and have been stunned.'

Hundreds of ecstatic pilgrims are flocking to a statue of the Virgin Mary believed to be crying a single tear of blood

“The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.” Jeremiah 7:18 (KJV)

Images of the statue with a red liquid dripping down its cheek have been shared on social media, prompting a mass pilgrimage to Floridablanca in Columbia. Locals believe they have witnessed a miracle and others are swarming to catch a glimpse.

The Catholic Church has not commented or participated in the unexpected mass pilgrimage, although the archbishop of the nearby city of Bucaramanga has asked people to be cautious.

Local priest Jorge Eliecer Garcia said: ‘People tend to rally in these situations that become pilgrimages or even business to some. But they also touch the hearts of people in one way or another.’

Locals have demanded for representatives of the Catholic Church to come and clarify if it is indeed a miracle of if there is a scientific explanation for the situation. source

Padre Pio's heart on display in US, 1st time outside Italy

The heart of St. Padre Pio will be on display in Massachusetts this week, marking the first time the religious relic has ever left its home in Italy.

The Sun reports (http://bit.ly/2cJfSVK ) that the heart will be first made available for viewing Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Church in Lowell.

The Rev. Paul Soper says honoring the relics of saints is ancient practice in the Roman Catholic faith.

St. Padre Pio was a Capuchin friar best known for possessing the Stigmata, or wounds of Jesus Christ.

He died in Foggia, Italy, in 1968 and was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2002. The body of St. Padre Pio is believed to be partially incorrupt.

The heart can also be seen at locations in Boston and Braintree this week.

CREEPY CORPSE OF DEAD CATHOLIC CHILD ‘SAINT’ SANTA INOCENCIA APPEARS TO OPENS HER EYES
A Catholic child saint Santa Inocencia that was stabbed to death by her father 300 years ago appears to blink at a tourist in a terrifying video.

To me, in the video it just looks like the video focused clear at that point it looks like it opens its eyes. All most all of the video is blurry.

SANTA INOCENCIA FIXES STARE DURING TOURIST FILM AT CATHEDRAL OF GUADALAJARA
“There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.” Deuteronomy 18:10-12 (KJV)

EDITOR’S NOTE: That the Vatican loves creepy, dead things there is no doubt. All over the world, in glass coffins and metal boxes, body parts and fully-embalmed corpses of “saints” are preserved for the Roman Catholic faithful to worship and say prayers to. Well, recently one appeared to open her eyes and blink. Demonism captured on film or elaborate hoax? You watch and decide for yourself.

A Catholic child saint Santa Inocencia that was stabbed to death by her father 300 years ago appears to blink at a tourist in a terrifying video. The corpse of Santa Inocencia bares her eyes for the first time in centuries during a film made by a visitor to the Cathedral of Guadalajara in Mexico, where she is kept.

THE CORPSE, WHICH HAS BEEN PRESERVED IN WAX, LOOKS STRAIGHT INTO THE CAMERA DURING THE EERIE MOMENT.

'It's a miracle!' Face of Jesus appears on a wall during Catholic ceremony in Argentina

Photograph, which appears to show 'face of Jesus Christ', shared online
It was taken by Favio Garay, who was at Catholic ceremony in Argentina
Sceptics online said it was simply caused by random shadows on surface

A photograph has emerged, showing what appears to be the face of Jesus Christ projected on a surface next to a Catholic priest in Argentina.

The picture, which was published in local media and has gone viral online, was taken during a Catholic ceremony in the town of Caucete.

Worshippers had gathered in the town, not far from the Chilean border, to perform the novena, a ritual which consists of conducting religious prayers in public for nine successive days.

The photo was shared online by a local man named Favio Garay, who took part in the event.

The image shows a priest sitting at a table and apparently addressing people with a microphone.

To his left, there is a religious statue but to his right is an image which looks similar to the face of Jesus Christ as seen in numerous paintings and religious icons.

Several sceptics online said the image was caused by random shadows.

(http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/11/24/11/3AB6EA0A00000578-3967958-The_face_of_Jesus_appearing_in_Argentina-m-68_1479988697875.jpg)(http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/11/24/11/08FAD7DB000005DC-3967958-A_painting_of_Jesus_Christ-a-69_1479988715938.jpg)

But many others believed it was a miracle, possibly brought about by the power of prayer.

Silvia Yacanto commented on social media: 'This is incredible!'

Lili Peralta added: 'This is it, friends, we need to share what's good. It's worth it!'

Maria Vega commented: 'Beautiful photo. I'll share it. It fills me with happiness.'

When I was just a "window shopping christian", I for some reason thought Catholics were part of bible believing Christians. HOWEVER - whenever I would see statutes of Mary et al in front of people's houses, it just looked WEIRD and CULT-LIKE.

Now I know why.

An ancient vial of 'miracle' blood failed to liquefy, and that's a bad omen for 2017

One of the most famous recurring miracles — even if one not quite sanctioned by the Catholic Church — is the liquefaction of the dried blood of San Gennaro, or St. Januarius, a bishop of Naples martyred around 305 A.D. and the city's patron saint. Starting in 1389, the vial of San Gennaro's blood typically turns liquid three times a year: on the Saturday before the first Sunday of May; on his saint's feast day, Sept. 19; and on Dec. 16, the day Mt. Vesuvius erupted in 1631. The blood liquefied on Sept. 19 this year, but not on Dec. 16. "In local lore, the failure of the blood to liquefy signals war, famine, disease, or other disaster," Catholic News Agency reports.

The relic failed to liquefy in September 1939, when World War II broke out; during a cholera outbreak in Naples in 1973; and in 1980, the year of a deadly earthquake, Italy's La Stampa newspaper says. But Msgr. Vincenzo De Gregorio, the abbott of the Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro, took a philosophical view. "We must not think of disasters and calamities," he counseled, according to the ANSA news agency. "We are men of faith and we must pray."

Over 200 Injured as 1.5 Million Filipinos Throng ‘Healing’ Idol Marched Through Streets

Over 200 were injured on Monday as an estimated 1.5 million Filipinos sought to press up against a centuries-old statue of Christ that was marched through the streets of Manila as part of an annual Roman Catholic celebration called the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

As previously reported, Catholics in the country, some holding rosaries, banners and/or cloths, seek to touch the wood carving of Jesus carrying the cross out of their belief that it possesses healing powers or can bring good fortune.

“If you seek a favor, it will be granted as long as you pray hard,” Lolit Gonzales, 45, told the Manila Times. She asserted that she had been healed of a knee injury after participating in the event two years ago.

“The Nazarene has given me everything: a stable job and health for my family,” Armando Bantayaun, 57, also told reporters.

This year was no exception, as some followers along the 20-hour procession tossed cloths to those who were adjacent to the carriage, hoping that they could swipe the idol for them. Some walked barefoot in the 30-degree weather to show penance and to recreate Jesus’ supposed barefoot act of carrying the cross.

“It’s part of my sacrifice,” Kath Espino, 28, told the Latin American Herald Tribune, advising that she asked the Nazarene that she conceive a child.

Johnny Yu, who leads the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDDRMO), told the Philippine Inquirer that most the injuries were minor, but three women who fell after attempting to climb up on the carriage that was carrying the statue were nearly trampled to death. Seven others were also injured after being struck by falling steel railings.

A number of those participating in the procession collapsed, suffered bruises, or complained of elevated blood pressure along the route.

Cheramie Ko, a business owner, told reporters that she has decided to keep her distance after almost being seriously injured in the past.

“I fell in the midst of an avalanche of people and I thought I was going to die until someone managed to pull me out,” she recalled. “I had bruises all over my body. It was a very traumatic experience for me and my family, so I’ve been staying on the sidelines ever since.”

Over 5,000 police were sent to oversee the procession along its route, which began at 5:00 a.m. Monday morning. Despite the injuries, authorities characterized the event as being “peaceful and solemn.”

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte issued remarks in favor of the observance.

“Good fortunes are usually borne out of hard work and perseverance. Prayers are likely answered because we do not give up or get tired from asking God for the fulfillment of our heart’s desires,” he said. “Such is the phenomenal expression of faith of the millions of devotees in the form of gratitude, petition, and sacrifice shown in the image of the Black Nazarene every feast day on the 9th of January every year.”

Duterte had made local headlines recently after telling those who take issue with this foul language to complain to God.

“If you have something against me, about my mouth, about my character, go to God and complain. He was the one who made me. He is the one to be blamed, not me,” he said.

As previously reported, the vast majority of Filipinos—approximately 80 percent—are Roman Catholic. Only an estimated 2.8 percent of the population professes to be evangelical Christian.

Vatican issues new rules for relics in saint-making roman-greco demi god process

The Vatican’s saint-making office has updated its rules governing the use of relics for would-be saints, issuing detailed new guidelines Saturday that govern how body parts and cremated remains are to be obtained, transferred and protected for eventual veneration.

The instructions explicitly rule out selling the hair strands, hands, teeth and other body parts of saints that often fetch high prices in online auctions. They also prohibit the use of relics in sacrilegious rituals and warn that the church may have to obtain consent from surviving family members before unearthing the remains of candidates for sainthood.

Bodily relics are an important part of Catholic tradition, since the body is considered to be the “instrument” of the person’s saintliness. Beatification and canonization Masses often feature the relic being ceremoniously brought to the altar in an elaborate display case and allowing the faithful to publicly venerate the new blessed or saint for the first time.

Officials said the new guidelines were necessary given some obstacles that had arisen since the rules were last revised in 2007, particularly when surviving relatives and church officials disagreed. One current case before a U.S. appeals court concerns a battle over the remains of Fulton Sheen, an American archbishop known for his revolutionary radio and television preaching in the 1950s and 1960s.

Sheen’s niece went to court to force the archdiocese of New York to transfer Sheen’s body from the crypt of St. Patrick’s Cathedral to Peoria, Illinois, where Sheen was born, ordained a priest and where his sainthood cause has been launched by Peoria’s bishop.

The New York archdiocese refused and appealed a 2016 lower court ruling in favor of the niece. A decision from the appeals court is expected soon.

Monsignor Robert Sarno of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Causes of Saints said it’s impossible to know what difficulties could complicate a saint-making case or whether the new guidelines might have helped avoid the legal battle over Sheen.

But Sarno said the Vatican believed the updates were needed anyway to provide bishops around the world with a detailed, go-to guide in multiple languages to replace the Latin instructions that provided only general rules to follow.

New to the protocols is an article that makes clear that bishops must have the “consent of the heirs” in places where the bodies of the dead legally belong to surviving family members or heirs.

The revised instructions lay out in detail how a body is to be unearthed, saying it must be covered with a “decorous” cloth while a relic is being taken or authenticated, and then re-buried in clothes of similar style.

They also make clear that the bishops involved must agree in writing to any transfer of remains and call for absolute secrecy when a body is unearthed and a relic taken for eventual veneration.

The document repeats church teaching that relics from candidates for sainthood can only be venerated publicly once they have been beatified, the first step to possible sainthood, and not before.

The guidance explicitly allows for cremated remains to be used as relics. For most of its 2,000-year history, the Catholic Church only permitted burial, arguing that it best expressed the Christian hope for resurrection. But in 1963, the Vatican explicitly allowed cremation as long as it didn’t suggest a denial of faith about resurrection.

The new instructions only cover the so-called “first class” of relics from the actual body of the saintly candidate. The church also recognizes second- and third-class relics, such as clothes and other materials that came into contact with the would-be saint’s body.

Virgin Mary Statue spotted ‘crying’ in Hobbs, New Mexico (video)

A small church in New Mexico has been inundated with visitors after a statue of the Virgin Mary was seen weeping at the site. The eerie enigma at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in the town of Hobbs was first noticed by a wife and husband attending Sunday service earlier this month. Initially thinking that the ‘tears’ were simply a reflection of the light, they were amazed when, upon getting closer to the statue, that they, indeed, saw some kind of moisture that was coming from the eyes of the piece.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVg9yh6xZ3M

Word soon spread among the excited congregation and ultimately reached the church’s pastor, Father Pepe, who was mystified by what perceive to be a miraculous occurrence. Intriguingly, he says that the tears do not seem to be watery and are, instead, an oily substance which he described as smelling like roses. Pepe preserved some of the tears with a cloth and the Catholic Church plans to investigate the matter to see if they can determine if there is a some explanation, beyond divine intervention, for the odd event.

Meanwhile, the story surrounding the church’s statue has become something of a sensation in the area with people from throughout New Mexico as well as other nearby states flocking to the site. The rush of curious visitors has been so enormous that workers at the church say that they have had to keep the building open around the clock in order to accommodate the continuous wave of visitors. And while they weeping may eventually be explained by some kind of issue with the building, we’re guessing that, to those who make the trek to the church, where the crying came from may be less important than what it might mean.

Now what does this Virgin Mary Statue crying mean?

Virgin Mary statue appears to 'weep' olive oil that smells like roses

The Catholic Diocese of Las Cruces has made some progress investigating a Virgin Mary sculpture in a Hobbs, New Mexico church that appears to be weeping.

Bishop Oscar Cantú of the diocese — which spans all of southern New Mexico, including Hobbs — said Friday a sample of the fluid collected from the sculpture was sent for chemical analysis.

"And we determined it was olive oil, a scented olive oil," he said. "Some of the witnesses claimed it smelled of roses, so something similar to the oil I bless and consecrate each year that we use for baptism, for confirmations and for ordination of the priests."

The fact it is olive oil doesn't preclude the occurrence from being deemed a church miracle. But an investigation is still underway.
