Curriculum under fire for radical ideas, secrecy

In the 70 percent of Texas public schools where a private curriculum has been installed, students are learning the “fact” that “Allah is the Almighty God,” charge critics of a new online curriculum that already is facing condemnation for its secrecy and restrictions on oversight.
 
The program, called CSCOPE, is a private venture operating under the umbrella of the Texas Education Service Center Curriculum Collaborative, whose incorporation documents state its independence from the State Board of Education of the Texas Education Agency.
 
Other reports previously have raised alarm over the curriculum’s depiction of the Boston Tea Party as a terrorist act on par with the 9/11 attack.
 
According to documentation that has leaked out, the program describes the Boston Tea Party this way: “A local militia, believed to be a terrorist organization, attacked the property of private citizens today at our nation’s busiest port. Although no one was injured in the attack, a large quantity of merchandise, considered to be valuable to its owners and loathsome to the perpetrators, was destroyed. The terrorists, dressed in disguise and apparently intoxicated, were able to escape into the night with the help of local citizens who harbor these fugitives and conceal their identities from the authorities. It is believed that the terrorist attack was a response to the policies enacted by the occupying country’s government. Even stronger policies are anticipated by the local citizens.”
 
There also have been reports that the curriculum – contrary to recent Supreme Court rulings – says the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, the right to bear arms, is limited to state-run organizations.
 
The collective right’s advocates believed that the Second Amendment did not apply to individuals; rather it recognized the right of a state to arm its militia. It recognized limited individual rights only when it was exercised by members of a functioning, organized militia while actively participating in the militia’s activities.”
 
Now come concerns about what critics describe as a definitively pro-Islam bias.
 
The critics say the studies border on proselytizing.
 
In one scenario, students are asked to study the tenets of Islam, and critics say the materials provided exceed impartial review of another faith, extending into requirements of conversion and moral imperatives.
 
A computer presentation utilized as part of a study of Islam includes information on how to convert, as well as verses denigrating other faiths.
 
According to excerpts, under the heading, “Who Is Allah?,” students are told:
 
“Allah is the Almighty God.”
 
“Allah alone is the Creator. He alone deserves our devout love and worship
.”

 
Muhammad is described as having become “disillusioned with the corruption in the city and the growing gap between the urban dwellers and the Bedouins (nomadic herders).”
 
But there is no mention of his documented sex activities with a child or his penchant for beheading entire indigenous people groups
.
 
CSCOPE’s geography curriculum also is being scrutinized.
 
A high school question on a geography test asks, “Which of the following has been a benefit of globalization?” Possible answers are as follows: a) pandemics, b) increased standard of living, c) loss of local culture, and finally, d) widespread environmental impacts.
 
The only “correct” answer accepted in the context of the test is “an increased standard of living.”
 
WND recently reported the Texas State Board of Education was hearing concerns expressed by parents.
 
The debate carries national significance because of the influence Texas has on textbook and curriculum publishers as the only state that adopts uniform standards.
 
CSCOPE advocates say that the volume of information to which students now have access outside the classroom necessitates the move away from textbooks.
 
“If they’re sitting in a classroom with a textbook, that’s not the world anymore,” said Anne Poplin, Education Service Center Region 9 executive director.
 
“We’re moving to Bring Your Own Devices. It’s a disadvantage (for children) not to have access to their devices. It’s not a textbook-driven environment. If it is, they’re behind,” Poplin said.
 
An estimated 70 percent of Texas schools already are involved in the program.
 
But one of the concerns is that state law requires textbooks to be reviewed by the board of education, and parents are allowed to have access, since CSCOPE is considered a private venture it operates independently of state or local school board oversight.
 
The state attorney general’s office has ruled that CSCOPE is a government organization subject to requirements of transparency, but because of loopholes in the Texas Public Information Act and Senate Bill 6, passed in 2011, CSCOPE has thus far been able to keep its content from public review. Even parents are denied access
.
 
Kimberly Thomas, a teacher in the Lubbock school district, calls CSCOPE a “joke,” identifying a ninth-grade lesson that asks students to circle capital letters in a sentence.
 
Her department was rated exemplary by the state prior to the installation of CSCOPE. As Thomas notes, CSCOPE “forces our own department to undo the proven, successful curriculum we have developed that gave us an exemplary rating.”
 
Just days ago, Thomas Ratliff, a member of the state board and supporter of CSCOPE, said CSCOPE was “supplemental” and that textbooks still are being used.
 
“CSCOPE is not designed to eliminate textbooks or other instructional materials. It is designed to complement them for the benefit of the teacher and the student,” he wrote in a prepared statement.
 
CSCOPE employees, on the other hand, claim the software is designed to replace textbooks and, indeed, has in many Texas school districts.
 
Addressing the issue of the program’s secrecy, Ratliff slammed critics who say they want government to be “run like a business” but then get upset when that happens.
 
But critics argue private schools, the closest thing to a school being run like a business, still make instructional materials available to parents, something that CSCOPE refuses to do.
 
The “parent portal” provided on the public portion of CSCOPE’s website has not allayed critics’ concerns. Some of the lessons leaked to the public have contained wide disparities from the summary pages viewable in the public section of CSCOPE’s website.
 
Ratliff defends this dichotomy by saying that, like iTunes or any other “business,” some things must be placed behind a “pay wall” as part of a business plan. Ratliff claims that CSCOPE is created by “teachers, for teachers.”
 
But teachers must sign a gag order when required to use CSCOPE in their classrooms.
 
Complicating the issue is the fact that school districts usually purchase CSCOPE with state tax dollars
.
 
While Ratliff calls the curriculum “instructional material” he said state oversight wouldn’t help, and “I would much rather have 7,000 locally elected school board members decide what content is best for their students, not the 15-member SBOE. Allowing CSCOPE to be developed and implemented at the local level is the ‘local control’ Texans say we want. Injecting SBOE oversight into this would shift us into a ‘controlling the locals’ approach.”
 
Critics say that’s not the way the system is set up, and CSCOPE actually ends local input since it prevents, on penalty of copyright litigation, distribution of its content to parents.
 
A vocal critic has been Texas State Rep. Debbie Riddle, a Republican.
 
“I did pretty well with textbooks. Benjamin Franklin did pretty well with textbooks. Are they going to say reading books is not effective? Should we all stop reading our Bibles?
 
“Call me old-fashioned, but there is something about the feel, smell, holding a book; there is a lot to be said for holding a hard copy,” she said.
 
Separately but in a related issue, Attorney General Greg Abbott has released an opinion that is being quoted by critics as disqualifying Ratliff from the state board because of his connections to companies doing business with schools in Texas.

Looks like they didn't bother to mention just who is behind this "CSCOPE", or how it got to any kind of vote without people knowing these details.

More corruption, plain and simple. Somebody is on the take on this one. Notice how they are using "copyright" to not allow parents to see what they are teaching. Well, they can sort of do it that way seeing this entity is a private venture, but it's obvious they are using every angle they can to get away with this, which begs the question, "Why are they acting so evasive, and why is it a "private venture"? What do they want to hide and why?

The move to "public/private ventures" is getting out of hand. It looks like government is using the private venture angle to sidestep the law and disclosure, to avoid laws that public offices cannot legally avoid.

The public education system is so overrun with deviants and criminals, I can't believe parents are allowing this to happen.

Consider if they had stuff like that about Christianity, people would be screaming their lungs out it's some kind of violation of rights or something. About Islam? Not a peep.

Stories like this just boggles the mind.

Source says federal officials pursuing program used in Texas


CSCOPE, the controversial online curriculum that taught “Allah is God” and currently is used in 80 percent of Texas school districts, has caught the attention of the Obama administration’s Department of Education.

A source in the Texas education system has told WND that Common Core operatives in the U.S. Department of Education are actively pursuing CSCOPE as a way around the Texas legislative process.

Texas is one of the few states still resisting implementation of Common Core, Obama’s national standards initiative, which many feel is a transparent attempt to nationalize education and progressively control classroom content with minimal parental oversight.

Implementation of Common Core is known to have been made a condition of school systems’ receipt of federal dollars under Obama’s “Race to the Top” program.

CSCOPE recently has come under fire for evidence of what sources claim to be radical content and secrecy. Now new information of such a radical agenda has surfaced showing CSCOPE connections to Obama mentor and self-acknowledged terror group member Bill Ayers.

WND has documented a strong link between Ayers and CSCOPE heavyweight and Common Core advocate Linda Darling-Hammond. An unrepentant terror group member (and known Obama supporter, financier, and ghost-writer), William “Bill” Ayers was part of the notorious Weather Underground which attempted to bomb the Pentagon in the seventies. After 9/11, Ayers was interviewed by the New York Times, and was quoted as saying he had “no regrets.”

Texas Schools Force Girls to Wear Islamic Burqas to School

CSCOPE is a curriculum that was adopted by the Texas State Board of Education.  Currently around 80% of public schools in Texas use SCOPE to supplement their regular curriculum.
 
It appears that the main purpose of CSCOPE is to undermine American patriotism and Christian values and replace it with socialist and Islamic teachings.  Earlier it was reported that one lesson in CSOPE taught students that Allah is God Almighty.  This lesson demonstrated that the supposed separation of church and state does not apply to Islam, only Christianity.  Another reported lesson plan in CSCOPE taught that the Boston Tea Party was a terrorist act.  Yet another CSCOPE lesson had students designing flags for a newly formed socialist country.

In the latest report out of Lumberton, Texas, a CSCOPE lesson required the girls to wear Muslim burqas, the dark full length dress and head gear that Muslim women wear.  Supposedly, this was part of a CSCOPE lesson to study Islam.  According to one student, the teacher told them:
 
“We are going to work to change your perception of Islam
.

 
Another student said their teacher told them:

“I do not necessarily agree with this, but I am supposed to teach you that we are not to call these people terrorists anymore, but freedom fighters.”

The lesson was designed to teach students about Muslim women, whom it describes as being liberated.  I’ve yet to hear of a CSCOPE lesson plan that teaches about Christianity or Judaism.  What do you think would happen if such a plan called for all girls to wear a Christian cross or Jewish Star of David around their necks?  Do you think the Muslim girls at the school would do it?  Do you think the ACLU or other separation group would be up in arms about such a lesson?
 
If I were a parent of one of those girls, I would have refused to allow my daughter to wear a burqas.  It is a sign of their religion and as a Christian to wear a symbol of someone else’s religion is a sin.  I would have complained to the school and let them know that this was a violation of my daughter’s religion and that she would not be participating in that part of the lesson.  Better yet, I would not have my daughter in public school to begin with if at all possible.
 
In past few months, there has been quite an uproar in Texas about CSCOPE and its anti-American and pro-Muslim teachings.  The Texas legislature held hearings on the CSCOPE curriculum.  The hearings were led by state Sen. Dan Patrick (R-Houston) who serves as the chair of the Texas Senate Education Committee.  Reports of the hearings say that CSCOPE has agreed to make changes to the curriculum, but until the state legislature enacts a law to force them to do so, they don’t necessarily have to make any changes.  A statement released from Patrick read:

“Be assured we are working on this issue as is the SBOE almost every day. The hearing was step one, the letter step two. The only thing that is binding from a legislative standpoint is legislation. We are working on those issues based on what we are discovering now. We are doing our job, one that must be thorough and will take time.”

This entire issue with CSCOPE has surprised me because Texas is generally known as a fairly conservative state who honors American and state history along with the US Constitution and Bill of Rights.  They have been actively promoting their pro-Second Amendment stand.
 
So how did a small group of liberals get such an anti-American and pro-Islamic curriculum passed into 80% of the schools in the state?  Without something being done, Texas will completely change in just one generation into a liberal socialist Muslim state.
 
The American public school system was transformed nearly a century ago by a man named John Dewey.  He was a philosopher, psychologist and educational reformer.  He was also a socialist progressive who saw the opportunity to use the public schools to indoctrinate children into his way of thinking.  He realized that the schools had kids for 7-8 hours a day, 5 days a week, giving them ample time to brainwash them into becoming socialist progressives like himself.
 
In his Pedagogic Creed, published in School Journal vol. 54, 1897, he wrote:

“I believe that education is the fundamental method of social progress and reform.”
 
“I believe that education is a regulation of the process of coming to share in the social consciousness; and that the adjustment of individual activity on the basis of this social consciousness is the only sure method of social reconstruction.”
 
“I believe it is the business of every one interested in education to insist upon the school as the primary and most effective instrument of social progress and reform in order that society may be awakened to realize what the school stands for, and aroused to the necessity of endowing the educator with sufficient equipment properly to perform his task.”
 
“I believe, finally, that the teacher is engaged, not simply in the training of individuals, but in the formation of the proper social life.”

To Dewey, that social life he keeps referring to is progressive socialism, the same kind of philosophy we seen in Barack Obama, which is no surprise since he was raised, educated and mentored by socialists by his own admission.  Now realize that Dewey’s educational reform is successfully transforming every aspect of America.  It is this sinister plot that opened the doors for CSCOPE to sneak into the Texas schools and begin to indoctrinate a whole generation with socialist and Islamic ideas.
 
Obama is all too aware of this as he has recently declared that he wants to provide pre-kindergarten for all 4 year olds in the nation.  He says it’s to improve the level of education, but in reality, it’s so kids can be brainwashed at an earlier age, making it easier to train them in his socialistic ways.
 
Whether you live in Texas or wherever, have you checked into what your kids or grandkids are being taught in public school?  If not you owe it to them and America to find out and take action if it is anything like CSCOPE.

And that is how the feds are trapping the schools. Dangle the federal carrot and the states give in for the cash.

How are they getting away with this? I know it's the world, but come on! There isn't suppose to be ANY religion taught in public schools. None. It's suppose to be a secular system.

I'm amazed there hasn't been all kinds of lawsuits. Just shows that there is a specific agenda that originates at the federal level. The standard, "Implement what we want, or we'll withhold federal dollars" ploy, again.

Yeah, even more surprising is that it's happening in my backyard in the state of Texas. Yeah, I know it's the home of 3 NWO Presidents, 2 of whom were former Skull and Bones(LBJ, Bush Sr, and Bush Jr), and might as well throw in Rick Perry as he's been arm-arm with the NWO minions. But nonetheless Texas is just about pro-gun rights, pro-family, anti-universal health care, and pretty much pro-conservative everything that you can get...and somehow something like this has SLIPPED RIGHT BY everyone, without much of a chirp?

I understand what you're saying, but nonetheless wouldn't think even billions of dollars to allow Planned Parenthood build an abortion clinic here wouldn't cut it with anyone here..
